Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/17, 8:50 AM CT
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Ryan Garko has become a forgotten man in San Francisco.

Our View: Garko hasn't started since September 6th and has just two at-bats in the Giants last nine games. Manager Bruce Bochy has shifted Pablo Sandoval from third to first base to get Juan Uribe's hot bat into the lineup and Garko is ultimately left riding the pine. He's hitting just .232 since coming to the Giants.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/22, 11:51 PM CT
Ryan Garko pounded two home runs in the Giants' 14-11 loss to the Rockies on Saturday. Garko went 2-for-5 with the two bombs, two runs scored, and four RBI in the game.

Our View: Garko started off slowly for the Giants after he was traded, but over the last four days he has had two four-RBI games. The Giants need his bat to heat up, and it looks like it is doing so at the right time.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/18, 10:47 PM CT
Ryan Garko plated four of his fellow Giants on Tuesday in a ten-inning, 8-5 win over the Reds.

Our View: Garko has been quiet since coming over from Cleveland. Tuesday's performance doubled his RBI total as a Giant and certainly improved his .208 average coming into the game.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/5, 4:40 PM CT
Ryan Garko picked up his second and third Giants RBI on Wednesday, as San Francisco spanked Houston 10-6 on the road.

Our View: Garko now has a hit in four straight games. He's doing exactly what the Giants hoped he would, and should be a valuable contributor as the team fights for a playoff spot.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 7/27, 8:38 PM CT
Ryan Garko has reportedly been dealt from the Indians to the Giants in exchange for left-handed pitching prospect Scott Barnes and a player to be named later, according to Ed Price's (of MLB Fanhouse) twitter page.

Our View: If this trade is true, the Giants helped fill their need for a corner infielder. Garko is batting .285 with 11 homers this season, and now has a better supporting cast in San Francisco after leaving the struggling Indians.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/24, 10:15 AM CT
According to a report at MLB.com, Indians' first baseman Ryan Garko may be the next member of the team to get shipped in a trade. Garko is arbitration-eligible after this season, and the Indians don't want to give him a pay raise since they have other options at first base.

Our View: The team has already shipped Mark DeRosa and Rafael Betancourt, and Garko looks like a good candidate to be next. He is starting to play more, but with Victor Martinez seeing time at first and with top prospect Matt LaPorta seeing time at first in the minors, it looks like Garko will be expendable. We will update any movement by the Indians and Garko leading up to the deadline.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/10, 9:25 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Edwin Jackson in tonight's 5-1 loss at Detroit.

Our View: The Indians only had four hits in the game, and Garko was their lone source of scoring. Garko is riding a 10-game hitting streak, with two homers over the span.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/21, 1:27 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Ryan Garko is not in Sunday's lineup due to a sprained wrist.

Our View: Garko injured the wrist on Wednesday and will give way to Chris Giminez at first, while Victor Martinez slides in behind the plate to do the catching.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 5/25, 9:14 PM CT
Ryan Garko led a come from behind attack as the Indians defeated the Rays 11-10 on Monday. The first baseman was 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI, and two runs scored. His second home run came with two on and two outs in the ninth inning.

Our View: Garko has struggled through May as he has hit just .171 prior to today's game. He has shown throughout his career that he is a better hitter than this. He is not playing consistently and probably should not join fantasy teams until he is.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/19, 4:26 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored in the Indians 7-3 loss to the Yankees on Sunday.

Our View: The Indians are finding consistent at bats for Garko despite plenty of other players seemingly blocking his way. He started in right field today and hit seventh in the lineup.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 1/22, 9:56 AM CT
Manager Eric Wedge commented on Ryan Garko's future in the outfield for 2009, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Wedge said, "We're going to work out Garko and Josh Barfield in the outfield in spring training. It might not make it through spring training. It might not make it to one spring training game, but we'll see. If Garko is going to hit like he did in the second half last year, that's a bat we want in the lineup. I love Barfield's athleticism and speed. In the past, we've always been at our best when we've been the most versatile."

Our View: Garko tied Grady Sizemore for the club lead with 90 RBI in only 141 games played last season, but will be competing for a starting spot in a very crowded outfield that includes Shin-Soo Choo, Ben Francisco, David Dellucci and now Barfield.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 1/16, 11:44 AM CT
Ryan Garko will try his hand at outfield during spring training. "He doesn't know [if he can do it],and I don't know if he can do it yet, either," manager Eric Wedge admits to MLB.com. Garko was a catcher when drafted and now plays first base.

Our View: The Indians have a first base/catcher/DH logjam with Garko, Victor Martinez, Travis Hafner, and Kelly Shoppach, but a move to outfield doesn't really help the playing time woes. Grady Sizemore, Shin-Soo Choo, Ben Francisco, and David Dellucci are in the outfield, and prospects Matt LaPorta, Trevor Crowe, and Michael Brantley are rising quickly. We're not sure this news really helps Garko's chances of finding at-bats.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 9/26, 11:11 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 3-for-4 with five RBI in Friday's 11-8 win over the White Sox. He hit a single and two homers, the second a grand slam off D.J. Carrasco.

Our View: Garko has registered five RBI in two of his last four games, and has collected three or more hits in three of his last five outings.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/21, 3:45 PM CT
Ryan Garko extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a monster day, going 4-for-4 with five RBI in Cleveland's 10-5 win over the Tigers.

Our View: Garko started the day with a bases loaded triple, and went from there. He has been used intermittently recently, but should see more playing time with days like this.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/16, 10:41 PM CT
Ryan Garko finished 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI on Tuesday against the Twins. He now has seven RBI in his last three games.

Our View: Garko, like a lot of Indians, has performed under expectations in 2008. His 12 home runs and 79 RBI are decent enough, but better power numbers were expected of the first base slugger. His .254 average is more than 40 points below last year's.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/13, 9:35 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Royals at Progressive Field in the bottom half of the doubleheader.

Our View: Garko extended his hitting streak to five games, and registered his first homer of September. He is enjoying a solid month, and is worth consideration in AL-only leagues for the final two weeks.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/1, 10:29 PM CT
Ryan Garko had two hits and a run scored on Monday night as the Indians rested Victor Martinez allowing Kelly Shoppach to start behind the plate and giving Garko a shot to start.

Our View: Garko hit 21 home runs last season in 484 AB and he has followed that up with just 10 in 426 this year. Though his power and average have declined (.289 to .256), he has actually been a better run producer with 70 RBI (he had 61 last season). He will likely need some big hits down the stretch to be in the lineup on a daily basis now that Martinez is back.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/31, 11:55 AM CT
Ryan Garko may not be in the Indians plan as their everyday first baseman in 2009, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. "I'm not sure how that's going to play out, just because I'm uncertain about what the winter is going to lead to," Indians manager Eric Wedge remarked.

Our View: Garko has not had a wonderful year, disappointing his team and fantasy owners with an average of .256 along with just 10 home runs.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 8/28, 12:40 PM CT
It seems that Indians manager Eric Wedge's benching of Ryan Garko sure sent the message. According to Indians.com in the month of August, after Wedge benched Garko, he has responded with an average of .307 and 20 RBI.

Our View: Garko has hit 10 home runs on the year and driven in 70 runs.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/8, 7:57 PM CT
Ryan Garko wasn't in the starting lineup on Friday night after not running out a groundout in the Tribes game on Wednesday night, according to MLB.com. "I'm just not playing him today," manager Eric Wedge said. "I'm not sure when I'm going to put him out there. We'll play it day by day."

Our View: Garko has been a disappointment all season with only eight home runs and a terrible .659 OPS. Maybe he should have done us all a favor and stopped hustling a bit earlier so we could have stopped running him out there in our lineup to produce middling numbers.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/6, 1:10 PM CT
Ryan Garko was forced out of Wednesday's game in the third inning due to an apparent leg injury.

Our View: He was working as the DH, and sustained the injury while grounding out in his first at-bat. He was replaced by Andy Marte.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/23, 6:51 PM CT
Ryan Garko hit his eight home run of the year on his way to producing three hits, two runs and four RBI for the Tribe.

Our View: Garko has failed to deliver on the promise he flashed last season when he powered 21 long balls in 484 AB. Though he has 10 RBI in his last 16 games, in 13 of those games he failed to push a run across the plate.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/12, 10:15 PM CT
The only thing better than a good night at the plate is one put forth in support of the win, a mixture Cleveland first baseman Ryan Garko enjoyed this evening as part of the Indians' 8-4 win over the Rays. Garko went 2-for-4 with his 10th double and seventh home run of the season to post five RBIs and one run scored on the evening.

Our View: Garko contributes where he can but can't be relied upon for consistent production. This was his first homer since June 9th and he had just one RBI through July coming in.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/22, 8:33 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Sunday, his first multi-hit game in eight games.

Our View: Garko has been extremely inconsistent all year and his most recent downturn at the plate is yet another bump in the road as he has only three RBI in his last 11 games.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/10, 8:22 PM CT
Ryan Garko provided all the offense the Indians needed on Tuesday night. He singled home Ben Francisco in the first inning of a 1-0 win over the Twins. Garko went 2-for-4 and is 17-for-39 (.436) over his last 10 games.

Our View: After two dismal months, Garko has finally woken up. Now if the Indians could get the pop back into Victor Martinez's bat and welcome back Travis Hafner, they might have a decent lineup.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/9, 11:15 PM CT
Ryan Garko continued his hot hitting Monday, ripping a three-run homer in the first inning and adding another RBI later in the Tribe's 8-2 win over Detroit. Garko has 14 RBI over the last seven games.

Our View: Ryan got off to a horrible start, but he's making up for it lately.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 6/4, 11:12 PM CT
Ryan Garko drove in a career-high six runs and the Cleveland Indians won an ugly game against the defenseless Texas Rangers 15-9 on Wednesday night.

Our View: The Rangers might be able to score runs, but their pitching is easily the worst in the league, and one is almost embarrassed to watch them kick the ball around park. Their first error lead to three unearned runs by Sidney Ponson, and of the nine runs allowed by Elizardo Ramirez, four of them could have been prevented if the fielders had just the basic understanding of Baseball 101.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/27, 11:19 AM CT
Michael Aubrey has started three-straight games at first base, but Ryan Garko looks to get the call tonight against lefty Mark Buehrle and the White Sox, according to MLB.com. Garko has struggled this season, but is hitting .345 with a .901 on-base plus slugging percentage against lefties. Wedge attributes his slump to his intelligence, and said, "He overanalyzes. He's an intelligent guy, and sometimes that can work against you. He needs to filter what's moving in and out of his mind."

Our View: Wedge expects Garko to bounce back and return to being a solid hitter, like he was at the beginning of the season. Tonight will be an important test for him, as he battles Aubrey for playing time at first base, but he should be left on your bench.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/15, 9:02 PM CT
Ryan Garko owners are desperately hoping the right-handed slugger can feed off his Wednesday night home run. The Indians' first baseman hasn't hit into much luck this season and at times has looked frustrated, even lost, at the plate.

Our View: Considering that Garko has only 17 strikeouts in 124 at bats -- and has walked 15 times -- his minor league peripherals would suggest his batting average should be much better than the current .234. Garko was 1-for-4 in Thursday's game against the A's with one RBI. Expect his boxscore lines to improve as the May turns to June.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 5/14, 8:33 PM CT
Ryan Garko hit a solo home run, C.C Sabathia pitched a complete-game five-hit shutout and the Indians defeated the A's 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Our View: Garko, who has been a major funk for the last month, was 1-for-3 on the day. The first baseman now has four home runs, 17 RBI, 15 runs scored and is hitting .234 on the season.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/13, 9:27 PM CT
The Indians pulled the 4-0 win over Oakland this evening and it was 1B Ryan Garko providing the comfort in that final score. Garko went 1-for-4 at the plate, the one hit coming in the form of a three-run homer in the 8th inning to secure the win.

Our View: Garko hit the month of May hitting just .224, but he has surged since, going 8-for-32 to get his average to .250.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 4/29, 7:31 PM CT
The slumping Ryan Garko was benched Tuesday night. “We’ll give Ryan a day off, a little mental and physical break,” manager Eric Wedge said in the AP. “He arguably was our most consistent hitter early, but he’s been trying to do a little too much of late." Casey Blake moved to first base from third, while Andy Marte got the start at the hot corner.

Our View: Garko is in an 0-for-23 slump that has sent his batting average south of .230. Hopefully a little breather can get him back on track.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/28, 9:38 PM CT
Cleveland's Ryan Garko went 0-for-4, bounced into a double play and extended his hitless streak to 23 at-bats in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Indians.

Our View: Garko looks completely lost, and his posture at the plate could even be described as lethargic. The Indians first baseman needs a long look at a couple of games from the pine.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/25, 10:44 PM CT
Indians first baseman Ryan Garko, in an 0-for-12 slide, got his first off day this season.

Our View: Garko is expected to return to the Cleveland lineup on Saturday in the second game of the four-game set against the Yanks.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 4/19, 6:09 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 2-for-3 on Saturday to lift his average to .317.

Our View: Garko has 11 RBI on the year and has a hit in 10 of his last 11 games this season for the Tribe.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/17, 10:22 PM CT
Ryan Garko homered with one out in the fifth inning in the Indians 11-1 win over Detroit on Thursday.

Our View: The home run was Garko's second of the season, and his 10th and 11th RBI.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/16, 2:04 PM CT
Ryan Garko has reached base safely in all 14 games for Cleveland this season, and looks to continue his streak tonight against righty Armando Galarraga and the Tigers, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He will have a good chance to keep it going, as Galarraga will only be making his second career start, and is being called up from Triple-A to pitch.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/14, 12:56 PM CT
Ryan Garko has reached base safely in all 12 games for Cleveland this season, and looks to continue his streak tonight against lefty Jon Lester and the Red Sox, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is hitting 13-for-40 overall, with 10 walks. He has five extra base hits, and his fantasy stock is on the rise.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/6, 1:48 PM CT
Ryan Garko has collected a hit in all five games so far this season, according to MLB.com. He is hitting 7-for-19 overall, with one homer and three RBI. His fantasy stock is on the rise.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/3, 2:19 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 1-for-3 and registered the only RBI in a 2-1 loss to Chicago on Thursday. He collected two RBI over the three-game series.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/3, 9:20 AM CT
Ryan Garko is currently serving as the Indians' backup catcher until Victor Martinez returns, according to The Plain Dealer. The team was believed to be targeting minor league prospects for the backup job, but they are going with Garko for now.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 3/8, 6:37 PM CT
Ryan Garko went 2-for-2 today, hitting a double and homer with a whopping four RBI in helping the Indians to a 9-5 win over the Phillies in Grapefruit League play. Garko is penciled for the starting job at 1B and showed why today. These performances only bolster the momentum gained through positive play in '07 and should warn fantasy owners to be on the lookout in '08.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/17, 8:33 AM CT
Ryan Garko was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s game after tweaking his groin. “It’s a little sore,” manager Eric Wedge told the Akron Beacon-Journal. “He should be OK [for Friday], but he’s day to day. I just felt like we needed to get him out of there.”
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/22, 7:18 AM CT
Ryan Garko was in the lineup and Saturday feeling no ill effects to his left quadriceps following a collision with Marlon Byrd late in Friday's game, the AP reports. Garko's in a 22-for-47 groove this month with three homers, so keep him active if you can.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/19, 9:21 AM CT
Ryan Garko went 2-for-3 with a double on Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. He is now hitting .44 with three homers and nine RBI in July after hitting just .192 in June. "It's funny how sometimes nothing falls, other times it seems like everything does," Garko told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "You have to keep believing in yourself in the down times, but that's easier said than done."
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/17, 5:29 AM CT
Ryan Garko, mired in a 2-for-34 slump, didn't start Saturday against John Smoltz, the AP reports. Victor Martinez was the designated hitter and Travis Hafner played first base.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/24, 9:31 AM CT
Ryan Garko has opted to wear a protective cup during batting practice after taking an errant throw from Jhonny Peralta in the groin on Tuesday. “I was distracted and never saw the ball,” Garko told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I had to lay down for about 30 minutes in the locker room.” Garko played on both Tuesday and Wednesday despite the unfortunate incident.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 3/30, 9:32 AM CT
Most of Ryan Garko's at-bats are likely to come against left-handed pitching, according to the Akron Beacon-Journal. At times he will play first against left-handed pitchers, but he might have to share that role with Victor Martinez, who probably will be given a break from catching by playing a few games at first. Travis Hafner also might play a few games at first (he is considered more proficient than Garko defensively) and leave the designated hitter duties to Garko.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/28, 11:38 AM CT
Ryan Garko has made the opening-day roster, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 3/18, 7:21 PM CT
Ryan Garko had two hits and two RBI Sunday, but he also had his second error of the spring, according to the AP. Garko, a converted catcher, is working to improve his defense at first base. "He has to keep putting in the time at first and he'll get better," manager Eric Wedge said. "He needs to be able to make the plays and keep improving. He improved so much last spring and last year. We just need to see him do that again." Whether or not Garko breaks camp with the big-league club could depend largely on how Garko performs in the field.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 3/11, 7:56 AM CT
Whether Ryan Garko breaks camp with the Indians will depend on how many utility infielders they keep and how Garko handles playing first base, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He needs to keep going defensively," manager Eric Wedge said.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 3/1, 8:41 AM CT
Ryan Garko will be able to make the Indians' roster in a reserve role, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Whatever is going to make us a better ballclub, that is what we're going to do," said manager Eric Wedge. "He doesn't have to play every day to be up here."
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 1/29, 9:08 AM CT
Indians manager Eric Wedge has made it clear that Ryan Garko is going to have to earn a spot on the roster during spring training, despite the fact that the slugger hit .292 and drove in 45 runs in just 50 games with the Tribe last year, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I don't think in any walk of life things are just handed to you," Garko said. "Last year was a start. That's all it was. I'll just go to spring training and build on that." The Indians know Garko can hit, but they're concerned about his defense at first base, where he made six errors in 45 games last year.
Ryan Garko, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/8, 12:41 PM CT
To replace Casey Blake on the roster, the Indians called up Ryan Garko from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, according to the AP. Garko, who was 1-for-2 in a brief stint with Cleveland earlier this season, was hitting .248 with 15 HR and 59 RBI for Buffalo at the time of his promotion. He should see a significant amount of playing time at first base.
