Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 3/11, 3:37 PM CT
Shaun Marcum had another solid spring outing on Thursday, striking out two and allowing just one hit in three innings of work against the Rays.

Our View: He's thrown five scoreless innings so far this spring, and looks to be fully healed following his Tommy John surgery. He's worth monitoring closely in all AL-only leagues.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 3/6, 3:44 PM CT
Shaun Marcum (elbow) looked great against the Yankees on Saturday, striking out two with one walk while failing to give up a hit or a run over two innings.

Our View: Marcum missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery, and some fantasy owners may have forgotten just how effective he can be when healthy. Continue to monitor how he looks throughout spring training, as he has the potential to be a real sleeper this year.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 1/18, 4:23 PM CT
Shaun Marcum has agreed to a one-year deal with the Blue Jays worth $850,000, according to Jon Morosi's (FOX Sports) twitter page.

Our View: Marcum did not pitch last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He will be aiming to bounce back with a solid 2010 campaign, in his bid to earn a nice new deal in the following offseason.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 8/11, 5:12 PM CT
Shaun Marcum is likely to spend the remainder of the 2009 campaign in the minors, according to MLB.com. Jays' GM J.P. Ricciardi said, "He is healthy. There is nothing wrong with him, but there is no reason to rush him. He is going to pitch next year for us. He will be like 17 months post-op (elbow surgery) at that time. He feels good. We will probably just keep throwing him, but there is really probably no need to get him to the big leagues at this point."

Our View: Marcum holds a solid 2.30 ERA over five rehab outings, and the 27-year-old hurler is worth stashing in keeper leagues for 2010. As for right now in standard leagues, he is no longer worth holding.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 7/14, 5:55 PM CT
Shaun Marcum is slated to make his next rehab start with Double-A New Hampshire Thursday, according to TSN. He continues to recover from elbow surgery.

Our View: Thursday's rehab start will be his third, and he made his first two with Single-A Dunedin. The Jays are hopeful that the 27-year-old hurler could return at some point in August. He is worth stashing as a flier for deeper fantasy leagues.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 7/13, 11:37 AM CT
According to the Toronto Sun, Blue Jays' starter Shaun Marcum pitched in his second rehab game in Single-A on Saturday. He allowed two runs on five hits in three innings pitched, and he struck out five without walking a hitter. He is on pace to rejoin the team during the first week of August.

Our View: The line wasn't great, but the five strikeouts have to make the Jays happy. It was believed that Marcum would not be able to pitch this season after elbow surgery in September, but his recovery has been ahead of schedule. If he joins the rotation in early August, he could be worth a flier in AL-only leagues for sure and possibly in mixed leagues if he proves he is back healthy.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 5/5, 11:33 AM CT
Shaun Marcum is ahead of schedule in his return from Tommy John surgery and could pitch at some point this season, according to MLB.com. "Marcum's throwing bullpens now, which is good," GM J.P. Riccardi said. "He threw a couple of bullpens in Kansas City. So, May, he'll throw bullpens. Maybe June, get into some Minor League games -- maybe. He's way ahead of schedule. I think -- just psychologically -- if we get Marcum on the mound by even September, it's going to do a lot for him coming [back] next year, as opposed to having not pitched."

Our View: Marcum isn't someone that's going to be much help in fantasy leagues even if he does return this year, but he's certainly worth keeping an eye on for keeper leagues.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 4/29, 7:55 PM CT
Shaun Marcum will throw a bullpen session on Thursday, according to MLB.com. He is only expected to throw 35 pitches.

Our View: Marcum is recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he seems to be a bit ahead of schedule at this point. It's starting to look like he may try and make a late season return, but he currently holds no fantasy value.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 4/6, 12:44 PM CT
Shaun Marcum, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Blue Jays, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: Manager Cito Gaston is not optimistic that Marcum will pitch this season, and he is not worth stashing in fantasy leagues.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 9/24, 10:35 AM CT
Shaun Marcum's Tommy John surgery is scheduled for Tuesday in Alabama, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: Marcum posted solid numbers this season with a 3.39 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 25 starts, and it is unfortunate he will miss all of the 2009 campaign while recovering.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 9/19, 4:25 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Shaun Marcum will undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss all of the 2009 season.

Our View: It's certainly unfortunate news for Marcum and the Blue Jays. The 26-year-old had come into his own in 2008 posting a 3.39 ERA and 9-7 record through 25 starts.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 9/18, 6:38 PM CT
During Shaun Marcum's last start on Tuesday, he left the game early with a sore elbow. The news was not good for Marcum on Thursday when the Blue Jays shut him down for the remainder of 2009, according to CBSSportsline.com.

Our View: Marcum struggled after returning July 22, going 3-2 with a 6.19 ERA in seven starts, and was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Aug. 22 to work on his location. He had gone 1-0 with a 1.26 ERA in two starts since being recalled on Sept. 2
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 9/16, 7:30 PM CT
Shaun Marcum left Tuesday's start in the middle of the third inning with numbness in his right forearm, according to the AP.

Our View: Marcum had a forearm injury earlier this year, so it's not a good sign that he's experiencing more problems. We would assume his season is over.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 9/11, 10:30 PM CT
Shaun Marcum basically shut down the White Sox for 7.1 innings on Thursday night holding them to two runs in his ninth victory of the year. Marcum allowed five hits and one walk while striking out six in the outing.

Our View: Marcum has recaptured his first half form over his last two outings since being recalled from the minors with a 1.26 ERA over 14.1 innings to lower his ERA to 3.38. It appears you can once again start him with confidence no matter who he is facing.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 9/6, 4:30 PM CT
Shaun Marcum pitched seven shutout innings against the Rays in Saturday's 7-4 13-inning victory. He left with a no decision. It was his first game since August 22 and since returning from the disabled list. He recorded seven strikeouts, three walks and four hits.

Our View: Marcum pitched better than most expected and it appears that he will return as a fantasy impact starter for the remainder of the season.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 9/2, 1:34 PM CT
Shaun Marcum has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, according to the AP. Marcum was sent to Syracuse August 23 after going 3-2 with a 6.19 ERA in seven starts since coming off the DL July 22. He had missed 27 games with a sore elbow.

Our View: Marcum is 8-6 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.17 WHIP overall this season (22 starts), and he should be penciled back into the Jays' rotation. He should be inserted back into fantasy lineups in AL-only leagues as well, and could potentially provide a solid boost over the final month of the season.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 8/28, 7:33 PM CT
Shaun Marcum allowed three runs over seven innings in his first minor league start for the Jays Triple-A club at Syracuse, according to MLB.com. On the night, Marcum allowed five hits and two walks while striking out nine.

Our View: Marcum is scheduled to make one more start before being recalled to join the Blue Jays rotation. While he hasn't looked the same since returning from his elbow injury, he certainly looked solid tonight in throwing 71 of 104 pitches for strikes.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 8/24, 1:50 PM CT
The Blue Jays insist that Shaun Marcum's demotion to the Minors Leagues is as straightforward as it appears, according to MLB.com.

Our View: If everything goes according to plan, Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said Marcum could be back in the rotation by the time the club's next homestand rolls around at the beginning of September. That gives Marcum two starts with Triple-A Syracuse to sort through his control problems before a possible return to Rogers Centre.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 8/23, 1:16 PM CT
Shaun Marcum has been sent down to Triple-A Syracuse, according to the AP. John Parrish has been recalled from Syracuse to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View: Marcum allowed five runs and six hits in 3.2 innings in his last start Friday against Boston. He has won three straight decisions prior to his loss against Boston, and holds a 3.60 ERA and 1.17 WHIP for the season, but the team felt he has struggled with location since coming off the DL (sore elbow). He could be back if he regains his control over a few outings in the minors.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/22, 10:16 PM CT
Shaun Marcum lasted less than four innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits in Toronto's 8-4 loss to the Red Sox. Marcum picked up his sixth loss of the season in the contest.

Our View: Chalk it up to a bad night for Marcum, who had three stellar starts before this. He is still someone to trust in fantasy leagues.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 8/17, 5:42 PM CT
Toronto RHP Shaun Marcum was on his best behavior on the mound against Boston today, picking up his eighth win of the season by pitching five innings, allowing just one run on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: The overall record for Marcum now stands at 8-5 with an ERA of 3.36. This is his third consecutive win with just four earned runs allowed during that span.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 8/11, 10:44 PM CT
Shaun Marcum improved to 7-5 with his second straight win thanks to holding the Tigers to just two runs over six innings on Monday night.

Our View: Marcum has won his last two starts allowing just three runs in 13 innings (2.08 ERA). Both runs scored on solo home runs, and Marcum has allowed 19 home runs in 20 starts.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 8/6, 8:43 PM CT
Shaun Marcum looked like his old self Wednesday, allowing just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings.

Our View: Marcum really struggled in his previous three outings since coming back from the DL, so his owners have to be thrilled with this effort.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/1, 10:34 PM CT
Shaun Marcum made his third highly unsuccessful start since returning to the rotation as he allowed six runs in 4.1 innings against the Rangers.

Our View: Over three starts, Marcum's ERA has gone from 2.65 to 3.57 as he has allowed 16 runs in 14.2 innings. Clearly he was brought back too quickly, as many surmised based on his work in the minors.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 7/27, 4:08 PM CT
Shaun Marcum continues to bounce back roughly since his return from the DL. On Sunday he allowed four earned runs in 5.2 innings. He walked three, gave up six hits and struck out only two batters.

Our View: Marcum has just five strikeouts in the 10.1 innings he has thrown being reactivated. He was averaging nearly a strikeout per inning, but this may be the reality of Marcum's second half.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 7/22, 9:42 PM CT
Toronto RHP Shaun Marcum made his return from injury this evening and struggled to regain form, though his Blue Jays pulled the 10-8 win. Marcum pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: More than anything, the three homers surrendered worries the fantasy mind. It has not been a problem this season, and he is expected to struggle a bit having just returned from a significant amount of time off. He earned no decision, but the eyes will be on him the next time he hits the mound.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 7/22, 5:00 PM CT
Shaun Marcum will rejoin the Blue Jays starting rotation tonight against Baltimore. Marcum is returning from a right elbow strain that had landed him on the DL.

Our View: Marcum (5-4, 2.65 ERA) hopes to continue his outstanding season. Hopefully his elbow wont cause any future problems.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 7/18, 7:27 PM CT
The Blue Jays report RHP Shaun Marcum will rejoin the team on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: On Thursday, Marcum completed a successful rehab outing with Class A Dunedin, showing no issues with the right elbow injury that has sidelined him since June 19. By the time the fifth spot in Toronto's rotation rolls around on Tuesday, the Jays are hoping to activate the recovering starting pitcher from the disabled list. We'll keep you posted.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 7/12, 1:35 PM CT
Shaun Marcum, who is recovering from a right elbow strain, began pitching off a mound earlier this week, according to BlueJays.com.

Our View: Barring a setback, he is on pace to return to Toronto soon after the All-Star break. This is good news, as he holds a 5-4 record, with a 2.65 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 98.2 innings, with 86 strikeouts.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 7/1, 8:12 PM CT
The Toronto Blue Jays are indicating pitcher Shaun Marcum could be activated from the disabled list as early as July 21st, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Should Marcum experience no setbacks in his recovery from a strained right elbow, Toronto pitching coach Brad Arnsberg said the starter could be activated by July 21 at the earliest. Even then, Arnsberg added that Marcum likely would be limited to around 60-70 pitches in his first outing. The 26-year-old Marcum began a throwing program on Saturday at Toronto's complex in Dunedin, Fla., where he's playing catch on flat ground for the time being. Arnsberg noted that it will probably be at least another week before Marcum can pitch off a mound again. Marcum has been sidelined since June 19 with strained ligaments around his elbow and forearm in his throwing arm. On June 23, the pitcher was examined by renowned arm specialist Dr. James Andrews, who determined that Marcum's injury didn't require surgery.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 6/23, 4:31 PM CT
Shaun Marcum received some good news Monday on his injured elbow. The righty visited Dr. James Andrews, who confirmed what Toronto had already determined, that Marcum was suffering from strained ligaments around the elbow and forearm, according to MLB.com. The injury isn't considered serious, and Andrews gave Marcum clearance to begin a throwing program as soon as Saturday.

Our View: There is no timetable for Marcum's return, though this report suggested that the team will likely wait until around the All-Star break to activate him.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 6/21, 6:13 PM CT
The Blue Jays placed Shaun Marcum on the DL Saturday with a right elbow strain. Adam Lind was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to replace him on the roster.

Our View: This is a big blow to fantasy owners, as Marcum has been tremendous this season. The team has yet to announce who will replace him in the rotation
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/18, 10:33 PM CT
Toronto RHP Shaun Marcum put a strong outing on the mound tonight but his Jays fell 5-4 to the Brewers. Marcum pitched six innings to allow four runs (all earned) on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: The two homers allowed did much of the damage, though they are the first homers Marcum has allowed in three June starts.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/15, 8:09 AM CT
Shaun Marcum deserves better than his 5-3 record. He's pitched better than the mark too. His 2.43 ERA, 7.8 K/9, 2.5 BB/9 tell fantasy managers everything they need to know about the Jays right-hander. He's an ace in waiting.

Our View: The 26-year old in on the verge of overtaking Roy Halladay as the team ace, and it's just a matter of time before he receives the run support to earn some weekly and monthly league honors.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/11, 3:39 PM CT
Shaun Marcum looked very sharp against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday but did not factor in the decision. Marcum pitched seven innings, registering nine strikeouts and giving up just one run.

Our View: Marcum continues to impress. He has given up just five earned runs over his last four starts.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 5/31, 12:39 PM CT
The Toronto Blue Jays have taken wins in three consecutive games heading into today, sporting eight wins in their last nine games. Today they turn the ball to RHP Shaun Marcum to keep the good emotions rolling, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Marcum is 5-3 with a 2.64 EA over 71 2/3 innings of work this season. He has surrendered just 41 hits over that span balanced by a lowly 21 walks allowed. Over his career, Marcum is 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA against the Angels.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 5/26, 2:39 PM CT
Shaun Marcum allowed two runs on five hits over 7.1 innings of work in Monday's 7-2 win over the Royals, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: Marcum improves to 5-3 for the season, with a 2.64 ERA. Marcum has allowed two or less runs in eight of his 11 starts, and his fantasy stock remains on the rise.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 5/18, 8:20 PM CT
Shaun Marcum allowed two runs in a single inning of action on a Ryan Howard home run in a game that was delayed because of rain. All three outs he recorded were by the strikeout.

Our View: There are already rumors swirling that Marcum could start on Tuesday for the Jays given the fact that he threw only 22 pitches on this day which would put him in line to start twice on the week.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 5/7, 9:02 PM CT
Shaun Marcum improved to 4-2 as he allowed just two runs in 8.2 innings against the Rays. On the night, Marcum walked one and struck out nine.

Our View: Marcum was one out from a complete game shutout, but had to settle for the numbers above. Marcum now has an 8.14 K/9 mark, one of the main reasons he has enjoyed so much success in the early going. He is looking a potential breakout season square in the face and he isn't blinking.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 5/2, 8:39 PM CT
Shaun Marcum struck out nine and lowered his ERA to 2.70 in Friday night's 2-0 win over the White Sox. The Blue Jays right-hander allowed just two hits and walked three in his third win of the year.

Our View: The Jays rotation is pitching lights out. After shutting down the Red Sox in the three-game series at Fenway, they begin a home stand by shutting down the Sox.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 4/21, 3:05 PM CT
Shaun Marcum struggled early Monday afternoon against a rejuvenated Tigers offense. The Jays right-hander suffered through a four run second inning that ended in a 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Marcum allowed four runs on five hits, walked four and struck out two.

Our View: Save his struggles in the second, he pitched well, just as he has most of April. Marcum is a must start mixed league option regardless of the opponent.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 4/15, 11:17 PM CT
Shaun Marcum allowed two runs and four hits in 6.2 innings of work. The right-hander walked three and struck out four.

Our View: Marcum has struggled against the O's during his career but he was strong on Tuesday in the Jays 11-3 win.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 4/4, 9:23 PM CT
Shaun Marcum held the powerful Red Sox offense at bay Friday, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings. The righty had just allowed one hit entering the seventh, but J.D. Drew followed a walk and a single with a three-run blast. Still, Marcum picks up the win and should be thrilled with his first outing of the year.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 9/23, 2:18 PM CT
Shaun Marcum will have surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, according to the AP. He aggravated the injury during his start on Saturday. Marcum is expected to need 4-6 weeks to recover, so this shouldn't be an issue by the time spring training rolls around.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 9/23, 1:11 AM CT
Shaun Marcum left his Saturday start in the fourth inning due to a sore right knee, the AP reports. He's expected to have an MRI on the knee this weekend, and obviously his status for the remainder of the year is very much in doubt. The knee has been bothering him for a while.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/3, 3:23 PM CT
Shaun Marcum left Sunday's game after three innings with tightness in his back. Marcum allowed three runs in three innings before exiting. The Blue Jays don't think the injury is serious, and they expect Marcum to be able to make his next start.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 5/10, 10:29 PM CT
Shaun Marcum will replace the injured Victor Zambrano in the Blue Jays rotation on Sunday against the Devil Rays. He has a 6.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 13 relief appearances this season, though he has 22 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings. With B.J. Ryan done for the season, Marcum could still get a chance in late innings at some point, but for now, he'll get a look as a starter.
