Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsFriday 2/19, 3:25 PM CT
Mike Jacobs could be asked to serve as an emergency catcher for the Mets this season if Rod Barajas does not accept the team's offer, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Jacobs does have some previous catching experience, though he'll be used mainly as New York's top bat off the bench and occasional filler at first base in place of Daniel Murphy. Don't expect Jacobs to get enough time at catcher to gain eligibility at the position.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 2/9, 10:42 PM CT
Mike Jacobs has officially signed a minor-leauge contract with the New York Mets, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: This would be the same Mike Jacobs that has gotten on-base at a clip of less than .300 the past two seasons. To be fair, he has managed to sock 51 home runs in that time span. With Fernando Tatis and Daniel Murphy also in tow in New York, the Mets are really pushing the boundaries of who is considered an acceptable first baseman.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 2/9, 6:31 PM CT
The Mets are apparently close to signing first baseman Mike Jacobs to a minor-league contract, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Our View: That should probably read "first baseman" because of Jacobs' defensive deficiencies. While the Amazins would probably like us to believe he isn't seriously being considered for a roster spot, with the team's current first basemen being Fernando Tatis and Daniel Murphy, expect him to see a good deal of at-bats in 2010 if he signs.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 1/21, 8:20 PM CT
GM Mike Rizzo noted that the Nationals are interested in Mike Jacobs, according to William Ladson's twitter page.

Our View: Jacobs could benefit from a return to the NL following a disappointing 2009 campaign with Kansas City, but it is uncertain where Jacobs would fit in Washington, with Adam Dunn slated to serve at first base, and Mike Morse his backup.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 1/4, 9:32 PM CT
The Giants are believed to have some interest in Mike Jacobs, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: San Francisco contacted his rep, and their interest is said to be mild - but he could potentially be considered as a component to filling out their lineup. Jacobs is coming off a down year in Kansas City, but could potentially bounce back with a return to the NL. He hit a career-best 32 homers with the Marlins in 2008.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 12/10, 8:20 AM CT
Mike Jacobs has been released by the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: He was released so the team would have some space on its roster heading into this morning's Rule 5 draft. One of the team's big acquisitions last offseason, Jacobs was horrid in 2009, batting only .228 while getting on base at a clip of less than .300. His 19 home runs and 61 RBI will surely entice another team to take a chance on him, but he probably will not be a big major league contributor in 2010.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 9/21, 11:09 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer off Tim Wakefield in tonight's 12-9 win over Boston at Kauffman Stadium.

Our View: He ended a 13-game skid without a homer, and has 18 for 2009. He will be hard-pressed to reach 20 with the season winding down.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 9/2, 6:14 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Trevor Cahill in Wednesday's 10-4 loss at Oakland.

Our View: Jacobs snapped an 11-game drought without a homer, and has 17 for the season. Hopefully fantasy owners won't have to wait long for his next shot.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 8/25, 10:07 PM CT
Mike Jacobs helped lead the Royals in tonight's 6-2 win over the Indians at Kauffman Stadium, as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Jacobs is batting .360 with 14 RBI over 15 games this month. He is hitting much better after struggling in July with a .160 batting average.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 8/23, 5:39 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's 10-3 loss to Minnesota at Kauffman Stadium. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Jacobs is batting .340 with two homers and 12 RBI over 14 games this month, after only hitting .160 in July. This is his best month of the season, and hopefully he won't regress down the stretch for fantasy owners.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 8/17, 11:07 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer off Scott Linebrink in tonight's 8-7 loss at Chicago.

Our View: Jacobs entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning. He hit his second homer of August, and his 16th of 2009. He is hitting .394 over 33 at-bats this month as well.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 8/16, 4:32 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in the Royals' 3-2 win over the Tigers on Sunday.

Our View: Jacobs was miserable in July, hitting just .160, but has rebounded nicely in August with a .375 mark. Still, his average on the season is just .233 and he's a risky fantasy play in any format.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 7/29, 10:38 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Chris Tillman in tonight's 7-3 loss at Baltimore.

Our View: Jacobs is tied with Miguel Olivo for the team lead in homers with 14. He hit four homers this month, and ended a three-game skid without a hit (10 at-bats).
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 7/6, 9:49 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Fernando Rodney in tonight's 4-3 win at Detroit.

Our View: Jacobs ended a 22-game drought without a homer, with the help of launching pad Comerica Park. He now has 11 dingers for the season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 6/30, 11:42 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-3 and recorded the Royals' lone RBI in tonight's 2-1 loss to the Twins at Kauffman Stadium. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Jacobs ended an 18-game drought without an RBI, and should remain a poor fantasy option heading into the new month. He is only hitting .229 for the season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 6/25, 6:28 PM CT
Mike Jacobs had a tough day at the plate in Thursday's 5-4 loss at Houston, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He stranded two men on base.

Our View: Jacobs' already dismal batting average drops a few more points to .227. He has gone 15 games without a homer, and only has one this month. He is proving to be a poor offseason acquisition for the Royals right now.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 6/10, 6:08 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was benched for Wednesday's game, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Jacobs has just six hits in his last 45 at bats and he is now hitting just .235. A game or two might help him regain his focus.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 6/7, 2:32 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was productive in Sunday's 4-0 loss at Toronto as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

Our View: Kansas City only mustered seven hits in the game, all singles. Jacobs has a three-game hitting streak, and registered multiple hits in a game for the first time since May 19.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsFriday 6/5, 8:52 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's 9-3 loss at Toronto.

Our View: Jacobs ended a 13-game drought without a homer. He still leads the Royals with 10 home runs.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 5/24, 3:57 PM CT
Mike Jacobs came through with a game-winning pinch-hit single in the seventh inning to help the Royals beat the Cardinals 3-2.

Our View: Jacobs roped a line drive into right field to drive in Willie Bloomquist in the seventh, and that run proved to be enough for the Royals to salvage a game in the series and to end the Cards' five game winning streak.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 5/6, 11:13 PM CT
Mike Jacobs used three hits to produce three RBI in the Royals' 9-1 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday night.

Our View: Jacobs is hitting .264 after this effort, and his total of 19 RBI in 26 games is just the type of production the Royals were looking for when they brought him in this off-season. Jacobs will hit the long ball and produce runs, you'll just have to work around his middling average.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 5/5, 11:52 PM CT
Mike Jacobs only had one hit on Tuesday, but it was a big one as he helped the Royals to an 8-7 win over the White Sox. Jacobs finished with three RBI and a run scored in the game.

Our View: Jacobs is still capable of hitting the long ball, but his inability to hit for any kind of average hurts his value. The home runs should be there if he stays healthy, so if you can tolerate his numerous 0-for-4 nights he can provide some value.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 4/19, 11:24 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the Royals fell to the Rangers 6-5 n Monday. It was his fourth home run of the season.

Our View: Jacobs power surge from last season has been questioned by some but it looks like the real thing following the start to his 2009 season. The first baseman is slugging .692 after two weeks.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsFriday 4/17, 11:25 PM CT
First baseman Mike Jacobs went 2-for-6 with a double and a three-run homer in Friday's win over the Rangers. He finished with two runs and four RBI. Jacobs also struck out three times.

Our View: Jacobs has gone deep in three of the last four games, and fantasy owners can feel free to use him while he's hot. He has great power, but he also strikes out too much and tends to slip into slumps.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 4/15, 4:46 PM CT
Mike Jacobs didn't start on Wednesday, but he did hit a pinch hit home run in the eighth inning of the Royals loss to the Indians.

Our View: This was the second home run of the season for Jacobs, bumping his RBI total to four. He is striking out too much, but he is still showing the power that makes him a fantasy option.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 4/15, 2:02 PM CT
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Mike Jacobs was not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians.

Our View: Just a routine day off for Jacobs, so nothing to be alarmed about. He should be back in the lineup for KC's next game. Billy Butler played first while John Buck was the DH with Jacobs out.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 4/13, 11:19 PM CT
Mike Jacobs hit his first home run of the season on Monday as the Royals defeated the Indians 4-2. The solo shot was his only hit in three at bats as the slugger also drew a walk.

Our View: The Royals are expecting the 32-home run power he displayed a season ago, but he is off to a slow start. One reason may be his protection. Tonight he hit sixth in the lineup as Alberto Callaspo hit seventh.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 4/9, 1:23 PM CT
Mike Jacobs is riding the pine today against Chicago as manager Trey Hillman wanted to go with Billy Butler (at first base) against opposing lefty hurler John Danks, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Jacobs is yet to register his first hit over two games with his new club, and Hillman held him out as Jacobs has struggled against lefties in the past.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 4/4, 7:52 PM CT
Mike Jacobs cracked his seventh home run of the spring as the Royals beat the Rangers 5-4 on Saturday. The solo shot was his only hit in three at-bats.

Our View: Judging by the spring lineups, Jacobs figures to see a lot of time in the No. 5 hole for the Royals this season. Fantasy owners would have to be thrilled for a repeat of last season's power numbers - 32 home runs and 93 RBI.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 3/22, 7:37 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was just 1-for-5 with two strikeouts on Sunday against the Angels, but his lone hit marked his sixth home run of the season. It was a three-run shot off of John Lackey in the fifth inning of the Royals 18-12 loss.

Our View: Jacobs is hitting .306 this spring and his six home runs seem to indicate that his 32 from last season were no fluke. The Royals were looking for power when they added Jacobs to their roster this offseason, and from his spring performance it is very clear that is exactly what they got.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 3/15, 9:57 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 11-3 win over the Giants. He is hitting .316 this spring.

Our View: Jacobs now has four home runs and 11 RBI in 37 preseason at-bats. He will see plenty of RBI opportunities in the heart of the Royals order this season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 3/12, 6:09 PM CT
Jacobs had a nice game on Thursday, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs.

Our View: He's looked comfortable in the middle of Kansas City's lineup in spring thus far, batting .281 through 32 at-bats with three home runs. While his batting average may never be the greatest, he still is a pretty good bet to reach 30 home runs for the second-straight year.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 3/7, 8:45 PM CT
Mike Jacobs followed up a David DeJesus home run in the second inning against Cleveland on Saturday with a homer of his own, his third of spring training.

Our View: If the early spring training contests are any indication, you can look for a similar season from Jacobs, with plenty of power but weak plate disclipline; he's hit three home runs but is just 5-for-24 with 10 strikeouts.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 2/25, 5:54 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-3 on Wednesday with a three-run homer to start his spring with the Royals.

Our View: The Royals traded for Jacobs to acquire power as he hit 32 home runs with 92 RBI last year with the Marlins. They certainly got it on Wednesday, so hopefully it will translate to the regular season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 2/23, 1:09 PM CT
Mike Jacobs is absent from camp today for an undislosed personal reason, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Jacobs won't be pushed for the starting gig at first base, and can afford to miss a day or two in camp.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 2/17, 10:02 PM CT
Mike Jacobs and the Kansas City Royals agreed to a one-year, $3.275 million deal, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Jacobs is one of a number of Royals who will compete for playing time at first base and DH. His OBP was a paltry .299 last season, but he did knock 32 bombs out of the park.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 1/22, 1:05 PM CT
Mike Jacobs is willing to serve in the DH role with the Royals, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Jacobs is not considered strong defensively and doesn't mind not playing first base every day while serving as the DH. He was brought to Kansas City to provide power, and he should play up to expectations after crushing 32 homers with the Marlins in 2008.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 10/30, 11:37 AM CT
Mike Jacobs was acquired by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday for relief pitcher Leo Nunez, less than 24 hours after the World Series ended, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Jacobs could be the first of a couple of Marlins players dealt this offseason. He will certainly give the Royals more power in their order, as he hit 32 home runs and drove in 93 runs last season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 10/29, 9:42 AM CT
Even though a Royals deal for first baseman Mike Jacobs was nixed by the Marlins due to health concerns of the minor league pitcher they would have received in return, the teams are still trying to work something out, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Jacobs hit 32 bombs last season while driving in 93 runs, but he hit just .247 with an awful .299 on-base percentage.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 10/27, 6:19 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was nearly traded to the Royals last week, according to the Miami Herald. Apparently the deal fell through because of a medical concerns of a minor league pitcher that was to be included in the deal.

Our View: While the Marlins believe that Gaby Sanchez can replace the production of Jacobs, it seems odd that the team would be looking to move a player who hit 32 home runs while knocking in 93 runs when they have stated they are willing to increase payroll. Still, that's live for the Marlins.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 10/25, 6:51 PM CT
Florida is looking to trade first baseman Mike Jacobs, pitcher Scott Olsen and reliever Kevin Gregg, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: The Marlins are looking to get some dynamic young players in their lineup - as usual - and Jacobs offers a power-hitting lefty, which would be attractive to many teams.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 9/17, 6:20 PM CT
Marlins first baseman Mike Jacobs is only one home run away from the Marlins record for homers by a lefty. On Tuesday night, it looked like Jacobs was going to get the record when he hit a fly ball over 430 feet, but it was to the deepest part of the park at Dolphin Stadium and went for a double, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Jacobs is chasing Carlos Delgado, who he was traded for after the 2005 season, for the record. The 32 homers that Jacobs has hit ranks eighth in the NL, and he is just 15 RBI away from the century mark.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 9/8, 10:33 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in Monday night's 8-6 loss to the Phillies.

Our View: Jacobs now has five home runs in the last nine games. He seems to have found his swing.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 9/7, 4:06 PM CT
Marlins first baseman Mike Jacobs hit his 30th home run of the year in a 2-for-3 effort, but it was not good enough, as Florida lost 3-1 to the Cardinals.

Our View: The bad news for fantasy owners is that Jacobs has just five hits this month. The good news? Three of them are home runs.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 8/30, 10:43 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Mets. His other two hits were singles.

Our View: He collected his 27th homer of the season, with two coming over his last four games. He had been struggling at the plate as of late, but looks to be back on the right track heading into September.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 8/26, 10:11 PM CT
Mike Jacobs had a double and a two-run homer in the Marlins' loss Tuesday.

Our View: Jacobs needed this, as he entered the game in a 1-for-26 tailspin.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 8/13, 9:38 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two strikeouts in Florida's 6-4 loss to St. Louis.

Our View: Jacobs will give you power and RBI, but his batting average and especially on-base percentage is problematic for fantasy owners. Still, he will likely help more than he hurts with the amount of home runs he is capable of hitting.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 8/10, 3:30 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-2 victory over the Mets. His other hit was a double and he scored three runs in the game (drew one walk).

Our View: Jacobs has now homered in back-to-back games, and has 25 for the season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 8/9, 10:17 PM CT
The Mets and Marlins entertained with more than a few offensive feats of wonder this evening, though it was the hometown Mets pulling the 8-6 win. For Florida, the man of the hour was first baseman Mike Jacobs, going 3-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, and his 24th homer of the season, totaling three RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Jacobs is hitting just .158 thus far through August, this being his first multi-hit performance since July 27th.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 7/30, 10:07 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was removed from the Marlins game after six innings leading to speculation that he had been traded, but when asked about it after the game he said that he had heard no such thing, according to MLB.com.

Our View: One of the rumors making the rounds is that Jacobs will be dealt to the Giants for catcher Bengie Molina, though the Giants don't appear to be overly anxious to trade Molina after his great work with the team's young pitching staff. Plus, the Giants feel that current first baseman, John Bowker, has more upside than Jacobs.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 7/27, 5:09 PM CT
Mike Jacobs hit home runs in his first two at-bats Sunday at Wrigley. He finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI. In the previous three games of the series he was 0-for-9.

Our View: Jacobs has three multihomer games this year and four in his career. He now has 22 home runs on the season but carries a .245 average.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 7/22, 9:16 PM CT
Mike Jacobs hit his 20th home run of the season off of Charlie Morton on Tuesday night. He was 2-for-3 with three RBI on the night.

Our View: Jacobs continues to be a good source of power but has 74 strikeouts to just 17 walks.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 7/9, 5:38 PM CT
Mike Jacobs hit his 19th home run of the season helping the Florida Marlins defeat the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View: Jacobs, who missed time this season to a quad strain, has 52 RBI and 39 runs scored in 77 games.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 7/6, 10:27 PM CT
Mike Jacobs scored three times and recorded two RBI at Coors Field on Sunday. He was 2-for-4 on the day.

Our View: Jacobs is 8-for-13 playing in Colorado this season.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 6/25, 9:48 PM CT
Mike Jacobs socked his 18th home run of the year on Wednesday night, his third dinger in his last eight appearances.

Our View: Would you have taken a bet that at the mid point of the year that Jacobs would have more home runs than Albert Pujols (16), Prince Fielder (16) or Mark Teixeira (14)? We wouldn't have either.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 6/15, 6:04 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Rays.

Our View: Five of his 16 homers have come in June, along with 13 RBI. He has notched an RBI in three straight games.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 6/1, 3:25 PM CT
Mike Jacobs typically struggles against southpaws, but he took Jamie Moyer deep twice on Sunday. The Marlins first baseman finished the game with four RBI.

Our View: Jacobs had been struggling a bit over the last 10-12 days, so it's good to see him snap out of his mini-slump in a big day.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsMonday 5/19, 12:32 PM CT
Mike Jacobs' seven-game absence from the starting lineup did not affect his power. He hit is second home run in as many games during Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Royals.

Our View: The long ball gives him 11 on the season, two behind team leader Dan Uggla.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 5/17, 9:19 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was in the starting lineup for the first time since May 7, when he had a tight right quad. His triple to right-center in the fourth inning and hit his 10th home run in the seventh helping the Marlins to a 7-3 victory over the Royals on Saturday night.

Our View: Jacobs made a splash in his first game in almost two weeks. He now has 18 runs and 27 RBI on the year.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsFriday 5/16, 10:31 AM CT
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said there is a good chance Mike Jacobs will be ready to return to the starting lineup Saturday, according to the Miami Herald. Jacobs has been limited by a strained left quad.

Our View: Jacobs has received just two at-bats over the last week plus but was red-hot before going down with the ailment.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsTuesday 5/13, 7:40 PM CT
Mike Jacobs, out since May 7th with an injured quadriceps, is edging closer to a return to the lineup, according to MLB.com. Jacobs is available to pinch hit, and he has been taking batting practice recently.

Our View: Jacobs power hasn't been missed with the surge from Dan Uggla, but when he returns the team could suddenly have a solid middle of the order, especially with the addition of injured Josh Willingham who is currently out with a bad back.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 5/11, 11:50 AM CT
Mike Jacobs is not listed in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. It will be the fourth straight game he has missed due to a strained left quad. Wes Helms is starting in his place.

Our View: Jacobs remains day-to-day, and fantasy owners can generally plan on him coming back and playing most of the upcoming week.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsSunday 5/11, 8:40 AM CT
Mike Jacobs missed his third straight start on Saturday due to a strained left quad. "I don't want to run him out there and have him go backward," manager Fredi Gonzalez informs the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Jacobs ran before the game and is feeling better. He remains day-to-day.

Our View: There's a decent chance that Jacobs will return on Sunday, but, at the least, fantasy owners can expect the first baseman to play in the week ahead.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsFriday 5/9, 11:22 PM CT
One of Florida's key pieces in the meat of the order, Mike Jacobs, missed his second straight game with a strained left quad muscle.

Our View: Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Jacobs could have been used as a pinch hitter if needed and is expected to be in the lineup on Saturday in Washington.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsFriday 5/9, 9:09 AM CT
Mike Jacobs' ailing left quad felt better than expected Thursday, but the Marlins were taking no chances on losing their top run producer for an extended time and went with Wes Helms at first base, according to the Palm Beach Post. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "He wants to play but we've got to make sure he's OK. We don't want to make it worse and all of a sudden he's sitting for two weeks." Jacobs said he is 95 percent sure he will be back in action tonight against Washington.

Our View: Jacobs was previously considered to sit out the weekend series against the Nationals, but it looks like he will play, according to his statement. If given the green light, he should be safe to return to your fantasy lineups.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 5/8, 9:06 PM CT
Mike Jacobs was out of the starting lineup on Thursday night for the Marlins due to a tight left quadriceps, according to MLB.com. "I should be able to pinch-hit, no problem," he said. "If I had to, I could go in. I definitely want to play today, but I think it's better that I don't, just to give it another day. I should be able to play tomorrow, no problem. It should be a lot better tomorrow."

Our View: Jacobs may be held out through the weekend despite his pronouncement of improvement, so keep an eye on the reports before deciding whether or not to have him active next week.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsThursday 5/8, 9:10 AM CT
Mike Jacobs was removed in the third inning on Wednesday after he experienced tightness in his left quad while getting out of the batter's box on a two-run double, according to FishStripes.com. Jacobs said, "I didn't think the ball I hit out Tuesday was going out, so I came out of the box pretty hard. It kind of tightened up on me a little bit. The same thing tonight. I came out hard, and running the bases, I just felt it a little bit." Manager Fredi Gonzalez added, "He felt a little tightness. We'll check him out tomorrow."

Our View: Gonzalez may decide to use Wes Helms at first base, to give Jacobs time to recover. The ailment is not believed to be serious. Jacobs belted nine homer and 24 RBI over 29 games, and is took a quad injury to slow him down.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, New York MetsWednesday 5/7, 8:15 PM CT
Florida 1B Mike Jacobs has left tonight's game against the Brewers with what the team reports is a tight left quad, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Jacobs was removed in the 3rd inning after he pulled up on a two-run double. He began limping as he approached first base and slowly jogged to second. First base coach Andy Fox, manager Fredi Gonzalez, and assistant trainer Mike Kozak came to his assistance and helped him off the field. He was replaced by Wes Helms as a pinch runner. Manager Fredi Gonzalez is hoping Mike Jacobs will be able to return from his finger injury on Thursday, but it's definitely not a sure thing. "I'm going to let it calm down for a few days," Jacobs said on MLB.com. "I don't want to push it too much, and take two steps forward and five days back."

Our View: The finger has bothered Jacobs since spring training, but it become too painful during a swing last Saturday. He's available for pinch-hitting, but the Marlins are hoping they don't have to use him.

Mike Jacobs will sit out Tuesday with his finger injury, according to the Orlando Sun Sentinel. He sprained his right middle finger while swinging the bat during game action.

Mike Jacobs said his injured middle finger won't heal without significant rest, and it is an issue he will have to play with the rest of the season, according to the Miami Herald. After fouling off a 1-1 pitch in the sixth inning during action on Saturday, Jacobs returned to the dugout. Jacobs said, "It hurt too much, I couldn't swing." He added that he gets a numbing sensation in his right hand on certain swings, but the feeling always returns.

Our View: Jacobs was off to a strong start as he belted seven homers and generated 17 RBI over 23 games, and it took a finger injury to slow him down. At least he will be able to play with the injury.

Mike Jacobs hit the first grand slam of his career on Saturday night to lead the Marlins to a 7-3 victory over the Pirates. The home run was his only hit of the night, and he is hitting just .250 in 20 AB, but Jacobs hopes to transition into a 25 HR hitting first baseman that the team believes he can be. Be patient with Jacobs, though it would be wise to realize that no matter how much he improves the average will likely be at best, well average.

Mike Jacobs just can't seem to get over his thumb injury. He's expected to require another 7-10 days on the disabled list before returning to action, according to the Sun-Sentinel. That's 100 at-bats right there I've lost out on." 27 games, to be precise. If the results of X-rays taken Friday show his fractured thumb has healed enough, he could be cleared to hit off a tee. More should be known about his status after he's examined further today, but he's not safe to put in weekly lineups.
