Josh Kinney, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 7/26, 10:22 AM CT
The St. Louis Cardinals have optioned reliever Josh Kinney to Triple-A Memphis, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Derrick Goold. In a corresponding move, the team recalled pitcher Blake Hawksworth from Memphis.

Our View: Kinney has a 10.95 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched this season, so he will not be missed in the St. Louis pen. He has not been the same pitcher he used to be since returning from injury, and it is starting to look like Kinney's days may be numbered in the St. Louis bullpen.

Josh Kinney will inherit the recently traded Chris Perez's seventh and eighth inning type roles, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Kinney has an 8.59 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched this season, and hasn't shown that he can be effective yet in 2009. Wait to see if he can nail down this role and pitch effectively before considering adding him in leagues with middle relievers.

Josh Kinney has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis according to John Marecek of KTRS.

Our View: Kinney has a 13.50 ERA in three games for the Cardinals this season. Obviously, his numbers should get better with more appearances, but he still has no business being owned in any format.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have optioned Josh Kinney to Triple-A Memphis to make room for Friday's starter, P.J. Walters.

Our View: Kinney has struggled thus far in 2009, giving up four runs in just 2.2 innings. He needs to get himself right in Memphis before he is ready to contribute in St. Louis.

Pitching coach Dave Duncan believes Josh Kinney could play a key role in the Cardinals' bullpen this season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Kinney fared well in the 2006 playoffs, but unfortunately blew out his elbow and missed all of 2007 and most of 2008.

Our View: He has retained his velocity and command of his pitches, and Duncan is excited about him, which could be part of the reason the club did not re-sign Russ Springer. Kinney is worth a look as a flier in deeper leagues that feature middle men.

Cardinals reliever Josh Kinney has not pitched in the big leagues since 2006 after having Tommy John surgery, but he will finally make his return to the big leagues on Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Kinney was a big part of the Cardinals run to the World Series in 2006, and he will try to help the team's struggling bullpen with depth.

Josh Kinney has experienced another setback in his recovery from elbow surgery, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The righty "has slowed his throwing program after experiencing elbow discomfort," according to a team release.

Our View: GM John Mozeliak said the setback does not eliminate the possibility of Kinney helping out the team in September, but that seems to be very optimistic thinking.

Josh Kinney, who threw a light bullpen session on Friday, according to the team's official website, is in the middle of his rehab from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery. Kinney, who suffered a setback in his recovery to a broken bone sustained in his elbow last November, estimated his effort level at about "60 or 70" percent. A mid-season return by Kinney is realistic.

Josh Kinney, who missed the entire 2007 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, is not expected to be ready to pitch until May or June. Kinney suffered a setback in his rehab when he fractured his right arm while exercising in August, but at the time the team said Kinney should still be fine by spring training, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Obviously that is no longer the case.

Josh Kinney, recovering from Tommy John surgery, broke a bone in his right elbow last week while playing catch. He had surgery Friday to repair the fracture. Kinney said the latest injury wouldn't delay his return. "This will give my ligament that much more time to heal," he said in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Everything else is good. That's the good news. I just cracked a bone."

Josh Kinney had an MRI taken of his right elbow yesterday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It's definitely enough that you have to be concerned about it," manager Tony La Russa said. "He told the trainers he was having some discomfort, so he's going to have it checked out." More should be known about his status in the next day or two.
