Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 12/8, 5:13 PM CT
Jerry Owens has inked a minor league deal with the Nationals, according to William Ladson's twitter page.

Our View: Owens will get a chance to compete for a roster spot with Washington in spring training. He possesses great speed, but needs to improve his skills at the plate before he can become a regular contributor in the bigs.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 5/3, 7:43 PM CT
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, the Mariners have signed Jerry Owens to a minor league deal. Owens was dumped by the White Sox to make room for Scott Podsednik.

Our View: Owens is a speedster, swiping 32 bags in 2007, but has never been much of a hitter. Even if he gets promoted from Triple-A he won't make a ripple in fantasy pools.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/2, 9:01 PM CT
Jerry Owens has chosen free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Charlotte, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Owens has elite speed, but went 1-for-12 with three strikeouts prior to getting demoted by the Sox. He is not likely going to find regular playing time with another MLB club this season.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 5/1, 1:44 PM CT
Jerry Owens was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Owens has great speed, but struggled at the plate with one hit and three strikeouts over 12 at-bats with the Sox.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsThursday 4/30, 7:27 AM CT
The Chicago Sun-Times suggests that Jerry Owens may have played his last game with the White Sox. Owens was packing a large duffel bag and shaking hands with teammates and clubhouse staff following Wednesday's win over the Mariners.

Our View: Owens is hitting .083 over 12 at-bats this season, with threee strikeouts. Scott Podsednik is hitting well at Triple-A, and could be a top candidate to replace Owens in center field with Brian Anderson nursing a strained oblique.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/28, 12:55 PM CT
Jerry Owens will start in left field in the first game of tonight's doubleheader against the Mariners at U.S. Cellular Field, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Carlos Quentin will serve in the DH role with Jim Thome nursing a heel ailment. Owens will bat leadoff, and is worth consideration as an option for speed in deeper AL-only leagues.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsMonday 4/13, 4:15 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that Jerry Owens will be called up to replace the injured DeWayne Wise. Owens is out for four to six weeks.

Our View: Owens plays a good center field and he has some speed, however he has no pop in his bat and has little fantasy value.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsThursday 4/2, 7:56 AM CT
Jerry Owens has cleared waivers with the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune. He was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte.

Our View: Owens could not beat Dewayne Wise for the starting gig in center field. This will be Owens' fourth campaign with Charlotte.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsMonday 3/30, 12:31 PM CT
Jerry Owens has been waived by the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune. He said, "I cannot say my performance was helping me at all. Dewayne Wise is a great player and he picked it up the last few weeks. He deserved it."

Our View: That means Dewayne Wise will be the starting center fielder and will handle leadoff duties.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 3/22, 8:21 PM CT
Jerry Owens was 0-for-2 with three walks, two stolen bases, and three runs scored in the White Sox 12-10 over Oakland on Sunday. He hit leadoff and played nine innings in center field.

Our View: Owens is only hitting .208 this spring, but he might be the best option to play center field for the White Sox. He plays very good defense and possesses nice speed, but his bat will always leave you asking for more.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 3/10, 12:42 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune believes Jerry Owens is in jeopardy of losing the leadoff role and starting gig in center field as he is struggling in spring training. He is only hitting .192 so far, and is yet to swipe a base.

Our View: Skipper Ozzie Guillen commented that Owens needs to step it up, but is hoping the speedy young pro wins the job in center field.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSaturday 1/31, 7:48 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that the White Sox will give center fielder Jerry Owens a shot at the leadoff spot this spring. His competition will come in the form of Brent Lillibridge and rookie Chris Getz.

Our View: Owens stole 32 bases in 97 games back in 2007 and he should be a nice source of speed if he were to win the job. Brian Anderson will battle with him for starting duties in center field. Owens is certainly a player to watch in spring training.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 12/21, 10:20 PM CT
White Sox general manager Kenny Williams may still try to find a free agent to fill center field, but he also isn't afraid to use Jerry Owens in 2009. "The fact of the matter is, I have confidence in the players we're bringing back," Williams tells the Chicago Tribune. "Obviously, a couple of them had setbacks [in 2008]. But Josh Fields and Jerry Owens... I know the type of talent they possess. And I think they're going to be assets to us. It's that simple."

Our View: If the season began today, Owens would presumably battle Brian Anderson for the starting job. Owens opened last season with a groin injury and was never able to regain his major league standing. But he possesses good speed and could be an AL-only asset for steals in 2009, provided he wins a job.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsMonday 9/1, 5:15 PM CT
Jerry Owens, a presumptive starting outfielder at the start of the season who was injured and sent to the minors, has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Owens lost his lineup spot to Carlos Quentin and hasn't been seen since. Owens likely won't have any value unless someone goes down with injury, though he did hit .276 with 30 steals in the minors and could offer some speed in AL-only leagues.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/17, 2:06 PM CT
Jerry Owens left Tuesday's Triple-A game with an undisclosed injury after catching a fly ball in the first inning, according to Mark Gonzales of ChicagoSports.com. Owens was nagged with a groin injury that cost him a spot on the opening day roster with the Sox.

Our View: Owens was being considered to replace Paul Konerko on the big league roster. The White Sox have instead purchased the contract of his minor league teammate, DeWayne Wise.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsThursday 5/8, 10:23 AM CT
The White Sox are not ready to call up speedy Jerry Owens from Triple-A, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Owens was projected to be Chicago's leadoff hitter heading into spring training, but Manager Ozzie Guillen said, "We talked about him, but we left the conversation right there. We talked about don't panic yet. I explained to him what's wrong with the hitting. The hitting is not the problem. Right now, we are OK. We have to wait for the right time to call him up." GM Kenny Williams added, "'The way we put the club together is one in which he can go with a smaller lineup or a big lineup. Now once Jerry Owens gets a few more at-bats underneath him, we can slide him into the mix in some way, shape or form, and then Ozzie has another weapon to use. But you've got to understand Jerry didn't have much of a spring training, so you don't want to bring someone up too soon, and then if he's not playing every day, he loses his stroke."

Our View: Carlos Quentin is playing very well in left field (with eight homers and 26 RBI), and Nick Swisher and Jermaine Dye are both firmly planted in the other two spots in the outfield, so there really is no need for Owens right now. The team is also content with using Brian Anderson as a top reserve.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 4/18, 1:45 PM CT
The White Sox activated Jerry Owens from the 15-day DL on Friday, but the speedy outfielder will stay at Triple-A Charlotte, the Chicago Tribune reports. Owens had been out due to a tear in his right adductor muscle.

Our View: Fantasy owners who've been holding onto Owens feared this day would be coming. Nick Swisher and Carlos Quentin have locked down the two outfield spots alongside Jermaine Dye, and the Sox are fine with Brian Anderson and Alexei Ramirez as backups. Owens will come up if an injury occurs, but he could be stuck in the minors for a while.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 4/18, 12:17 AM CT
Jerry Owens went 3-for-5 with two steals for Triple-A Charlotte. He is attempting to make his way back from a right adductor injury.

Our View: Sounds like he is healthy. Look for the White Sox to make a move soon. Owens won’t get everyday at-bats due to the play of Carlos Quentin, but he should still get enough opportunities to help AL-only owners and deep mixed leagues with his speed.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsMonday 4/14, 5:48 PM CT
Jerry Owens went 0-for-4 in his first rehab game for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. He is out due to a small tear his in right adductor muscle, but the White Sox might not have a spot for him even when he's ready, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Our View: Nick Swisher has been solid in center and in the leadoff spot, and Carlos Quentin is swinging well out of left field. The outfield logjam was a worry point all spring, and Owens looks like the odd-man out, for now.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 4/6, 10:13 AM CT
Jerry Owens could be out of action for longer than expected, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is nursing a right adductor tear and team GM Ken Williams stated, "I don't have any date for his return in mind, and I won't hear a date until we say, 'We'll bring him back today. But it's going to be awhile. He hasn't played in awhile, so he has to get back in game shape. He's got to get his stroke back. We have to assess where the team is at that point and whether that still is a fit." His initial return will likely be a minor-league rehab assignment starting Thursday, then followed by a team assessment if Owens is needed.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsThursday 4/3, 9:39 AM CT
Jerry Owens is reportedly close to returning to the White Sox, according to the Chicago Sun Times. He has been making great strides in his recovery from a small tear in his right adductor, and the team expects him to come off the 15-day DL on Tuesday. He could start the team's home opener (in center field) against Minnesota on April 7, and Manager Guillen stated, "Obviously having a guy who can run a little bit in the leadoff spot is an ideal situation, but like I said before, I don't want a guy who can fly and all of a sudden never gets on base. The plans out of spring training were the way Jerry was playing, having him lead off and having Swisher back somewhere he can help us. When Jerry is ready to play, then we'll make the decision. Jerry comes back and starts playing with us, he should be the leadoff guy." This is good news, but is sounds like Swisher is going to slip down in the batting order.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 3/30, 2:01 PM CT
Jerry Owens, who has been nursing a tear in his right adductor muscle, was place on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 24. Owens will give way to Alexei Ramirez, who will start in center field opening day. Owens is expected to miss at least two weeks.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/26, 9:07 AM CT
Jerry Owens has a slight tear of his right adductor muscle (groin) and will open the season on the disabled list. He needs 7-to-10 days of rest and could be back as soon as April 8, the Chicago Tribune confirms. Brian Anderson and Alexei Ramirez will see time in center until Owens comes back.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 3/25, 4:32 PM CT
Jerry Owens is slated to undergo an MRI on his troublesome groin to make sure he won't need to begin the season on the disabled list, according to the Chicago Tribune. That he's still bothered enough by the ailment to warrant an MRI is somewhat concerning -- just how concerning will depend on the results of the test.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 3/16, 7:39 AM CT
Jerry Owens returned to action for B game on Saturday, and tested his strained right groin by legging out a double and scoring on a shallow sac fly, according to the Chicago Tribune. The ailment had kept him out since Tuesday, but he'll be in a Cactus League game Sunday and should be fine going forward.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/15, 7:34 AM CT
An MRI Jerry Owens's sore right groin revealed no damage, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Now it's a matter of getting over the mental thing," Owens said. "I told [trainer Herm Schneider] that was what I needed to hear, just so I know it might be hurting me or bugging me, [but] there's nothing in there that's going to do anything long-term. It's a matter of getting out there and playing through it." Owens is expected to take part in B game Saturday and a Cactus League game Sunday, as he tries to ramp up for the start of the season and win a starting job.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/12, 8:14 PM CT
Jerry Owens was out of the lineup Wednesday due to recurring soreness in his right groin, according to the AP. The injury has limited him since Feb. 25. He's officially listed as day-to-day. Owens keeps falling farther and farther behind and it's appearing very unlikely that he'll earn a starting job. Even in a backup role, he's worth a draft pick because of his speed.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsMonday 3/10, 11:24 PM CT
Jerry Owens returned to the field to play on Monday after missing time due to a sore groin, this according to MLB.com. "Those two at-bats were the second and third at-bats I've had off a lefty all spring," Owens said. "Today, I took some balls out there and it felt good." Owens figures to get a fair amount of playing time if healthy, but his value is in his legs so the Sox have to be hoping he can avoid the type of season long woes that bothered another one of their speedsters, Scott Podsednik, last year (pods now plays for the Rockies).
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/8, 7:41 AM CT
White Sox trainers examined Jerry Owens on Friday and cleared him to return to baseball activities on Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The Sox had shut Owens down for a bit to keep his groin injury from worsening into a nagging problem.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/5, 3:20 PM CT
Jerry Owens remains out due to a sore groin, and he is expected to miss a few more days. "I don't like the way he was running the bases," manager Ozzie Guillen tells the Chicago Tribune. "The key for him is his legs and we have to keep those legs fresh."
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 2/29, 8:34 AM CT
Jerry Owens is nursing a sore groin, according to the Chicago Tribune. So long as things go well on Thursday, Owens should be able to play on Friday.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsWednesday 2/27, 10:49 AM CT
Jerry Owens' success as a leadoff batter against left-handers will dictate his playing time, according to the Chicago Tribune. He'll get his first chance today against the Rockies' Jeff Francis. "I want to play [against lefties] because that's going to dictate whether I play a lot or be a platoon player," Owens said. Owens is virtually assured of a roster spot, but he'll likely have to beat out Carlos Quentin for regular playing time.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 2/26, 1:40 PM CT
Jerry Owens says his right groin is fine, but he's been told he could be held out of games for "a couple days" as a precaution, according to the Chicago Tribune. The outfielder tweaked the groin in Monday's intrasquad game. Owens is bidding for a starting job in the outfield with the Sox but is likely to come off the bench. He could still be worth drafting, though, for his steals potential.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 2/26, 11:57 AM CT
Jerry Owens told the Chicago Tribune the right groin he tweaked during Monday's spring session feels fine. The Sox outfielder is expected to miss some practice time but should return before the end of the week. Owens wasn't in the White Sox's lineup for Tuesday's intrasquad game, and Wednesday's lineup for the exhibition opener against Colorado has yet to be announced.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsMonday 2/25, 6:50 PM CT
Jerry Owens "tweaked" his groin on Monday but still believes he will be available to play come game-time on Wednesday, this according to the Chicago Tribune. Owens is in a battle for playing time in the Sox OF, so he can ill afford to lose time in spring training, though he is in a bit of a catch-22 in that almost all of his value resides in his legs so he certainly must make sure his wheels are OK when he returns to the field.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsWednesday 2/20, 8:26 AM CT
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said there remains a chance that Jerry Owens could end up in a platoon, but Owens has bigger plans, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "My goal is 65 [stolen bases] this year," said Owens. Obviously, he'll need to lock up a starting job to reach that goal, but he did rip off 55 steals between the minors and majors last season. Owens also added 10 pounds of muscle during the offseason.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 9/2, 10:05 PM CT
Manager Ozzie Guillen said he wants to see more of Jerry Owens before deciding if he will be the team's leadoff hitter next season. "I'd like to see his on-base percentage a little higher," Guillen said in the AP. "He's got good speed. We'll keep him in there and see how he does."
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/4, 6:03 AM CT

Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsThursday 6/21, 5:49 AM CT
Jerry Owens was returned to Triple-A Wednesday, a good sign that the White Sox will get Darin Erstad back as expected for the weekend. Owens hit just .170 in his trial with the White Sox, going 9-for-53 with three stolen bases.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/12, 8:55 AM CT
Jerry Owens will get another day of rest on Tuesday as he continues to be hampered by a strained right hamstring. According to the White Sox official website, Owens was available to play if needed on Monday, but the team will take the opportunity to give him some more rest since they are facing tough lefty Cole Hamels on Tuesday.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 6/10, 9:01 PM CT
Jerry Owens missed his second straight game Sunday with a strained right hamstring. Manager Ozzie Guillen isn't sure how Owens was injured. "I don't know how he can be hurt," Guillen said. "He wasn't on base at all." It's not clear when Owens will return to the lineup.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/9, 9:29 PM CT
Jerry Owens did not play Saturday, the AP reports. He left Friday's game after five innings due to a strained right hamstring.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/8, 10:34 PM CT
Jerry Owens left Friday's game after five innings with a strained right hamstring, according to the AP. He is considered day-to-day.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/1, 6:42 PM CT
The White Sox called up Jerry Owens on Friday, the AP reports. He takes the placed of Darin Erstad, who landed on the DL. Owens was batting .305 with two homers, 16 RBI, 36 runs, and 23 steals at Triple-A Charlotte. He's worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/1, 8:55 AM CT
A day after losing Darin Erstad to an ankle injury, the White Sox are expected to call up minor league outfielder Jerry Owens . Manager Ozzie Guillen told the Chicago Sun-Times the team is leaning towards Owens over Ryan Sweeney because Owens can bat leadoff. Owens was hitting .301 with 23 steals at Triple-A and could be a cheap source of steals in AL-only leagues until Erstad is healthy.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsSunday 8/27, 6:49 AM CT
Even though Jerry Owens still is recovering from a sprained ankle, the White Sox decided to recall him from Triple-A on Saturday and immediately placed him on the disabled list, according to the Chicago Tribune. The move was made now so that he would be eligible for their postseason roster, giving them the option of adding speed in the playoffs. Owens had 37 steals before suffering the injury Aug. 10.
Jerry Owens, CF, Washington NationalsFriday 8/25, 8:37 AM CT
Jerry Owens recently suffered a sprained ankle, putting his call-up in September up in the air, according to the Daily Southtown. "If Owens, in the next few days, becomes healthy, then we'll call him up," manager Ozzie Guillen said. Owens is hitting .264 with four homers, 48 RBI and 37 steals at Triple-A.
