Donnie Murphy, 3B, Florida MarlinsMonday 12/14, 8:24 PM CT
Donnie Murphy has inked a minor league deal with the Marlins, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Murphy only hit .184 over 103 at-bats with Oakland last season. He does not seem likely to make the Marlins out of spring training.

Donnie Murphy has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The 26-year-old was competing for a reserve role as a middle infielder. He only hit .184 over 103 at-bats in 2008.

Donnie Murphy is expected to be OK after being struck on the left elbow by a pitch from Jonathan Papelbon during spring action with Boston, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Murphy has some pop in his bat, but his fantasy value will be limited while serving as a reserve third baseman.

Struggling third baseman Donnie Murphy helped his chances of making the club with a go-ahead two run homer in the 8th inning Monday leading the Orioles to a 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. It was Murphy's only at-bat of the game.

Our View: Murphy is still a long shot to make any noise fantasy-wise, as he is stuck behind Melvin Mora at third. But with an impressive spring he could see some time when Mora inevitably gets injured.

Donnie Murphy has signed a minor league deal with the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun. His agent (Jim Kuzmich) said, "Donnie is looking for a place to play much more consistently than he was in Oakland. You’re talking about a kid that came up playing in the Kansas City organization every day. The Orioles expressed that should Donnie’s bat develop into what we think it could develop into on the major league level, they see him having a more-defined role."

Our View: The 25-year-old only batted .184 over 46 games with the Athletics in 2008, but perhaps the 25-year-old infielder can get his career on track in Baltimore.

Donnie Murphy has been recalled as insurance for third baseman Jack Hannahan, who strained a muscle in his rib cage, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Murphy will provide depth, but not much else as he holds a .186 average over 102 at-bats, with three homers.

The A's designated infielder Donnie Murphy for assignment on Monday, the Oakland Tribune confirms.

Our View: This news shouldn't affect any fantasy teams. If you were carrying a utility infielder hitting .188, your fantasy squad has big problems.
Donnie Murphy, 3B, Florida MarlinsTuesday 7/8, 7:27 AM CT
Donnie Murphy tested his sore right elbow and was available, if needed, on Monday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The utility man holds favorable value to Oakland with his glove, but holds no fantasy value with his bat, as he is hitting .197 over 76 at-bats. He has played at 2B, SS, 3B, and one game in the outfield this season.

Donnie Murphy was activated from the DL on Friday, according to MLB.com. To make room on the active roster, Gregorio Petit was sent down to Triple-A. "Everyone knows they have a chance to get in the lineup," Geren said. "When you're playing a National League team, you could go through a whole roster."

Our View: Murphy will be utilized against NL teams, but when the game returns to AL parks he will have virtually no value with Eric Chavez back in the lineup.

Donnie Murphy was placed on the DL on Monday with inflammation in his right elbow, according to the Associated Press. The team recalled Dallas Braden to take his roster spot.

Our View: Murphy, who is hitting only .200 through 55 AB, had played in 5-straight games before Sunday when the pain became too much. By the time he is healthy Eric Chavez could be back rendering Murphy with no roster spot to return to.
Donnie Murphy, 3B, Florida MarlinsThursday 4/24, 6:46 PM CT
Donnie Murphy hit his first two home runs of the season on Thursday on his way to three hits, three runs and four RBI for the A's.

Our View: With the A's pounding Francisco Liriano, almost all their batters enjoyed some success. Jake Hannahan is only hitting .185 on the year, so Murphy could see a few more starts at third base based on today's performance.

Donnie Murphy swung a bat on Tuesday for the first time since spraining his finger on his right hand over the weekend, according to MLB.com. He commented that he was feeling much better, but will wait and see how his hand feels tomorrow before deciding whether or not he would be ready to return to the field. He considers himself day-to-day.

Donnie Murphy started at third base against Cleveland on Saturday, but was forced out of action in the third inning due to a sprained finger. He drew a walk in his only at-bat, and the severity of the ailment is yet to be decided.

The A's acquired second baseman Donnie Murphy from the Royals in exchange for cash considerations. Murphy hit .249 with 14 homers in 94 games for Double-A Wichita last season. He does not figure in the big league plans of the A's for 2007.
