The Braves are believed to still have $7-to-$9 million available to spend this offseason, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: They could be looking at left fielders or second basemen. A possibility in the outfield could be Xavier Nady, while division rival Dan Uggla might be able to plug a hole at second. Stay tuned.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 10/16, 4:20 PM CT

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/27, 3:43 PM CT
Brian McCann kept the Braves' improbable run going on Sunday, grounding in the game-winning run in the tenth inning, as Atlanta won 6-3 in Washington.

Our View: If Colorado loses on Sunday, Atlanta will be just one and a half games behind them for the National League wild card. With the Braves having four more games left versus the Nationals, you would have to think their chances are good.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 8/15, 6:44 PM CT
Brian McCann went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer off Cole Hamels in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Phillies at Turner Field.

Our View: The Braves' catcher showed why he is still considered one of the top offensive catchers in the league tonight. As long as he stays healthy, he is a top fantasy catcher in any league.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/11, 11:13 PM CT
Brian McCann led the Braves in tonight's close 4-3 win at Colorado, as he went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 7/7, 10:29 PM CT

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/28, 7:54 AM CT
Brian McCann returned to the lineup on Saturday against the Red Sox. The slugging catcher went 0-for-3 and recorded a stolen base.

Our View: The results weren't great, but the good news here is that McCann played. He missed Friday's contest due to dizzy spells, which are never a good sign so it's nice to see him back in action. He should be safe to play from here on out.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/26, 7:16 PM CT
Brian McCann is out of the Braves' lineup tonight against the Red Sox after dealing with dizziness over the last few days.

Our View: David Ross is working behind the plate in his place. McCann is day-to-day.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 6/18, 11:08 AM CT
Brian McCann is not in the Braves' lineup for their Thursday afternoon game against the Reds. David Ross will get the start behind the plate.

Our View: It appears this is just a routine day off for McCann since the team is playing a day game after a night game, so McCann owners shouldn't be worried. If you hurry you can get him out of the lineup today, but get him back in for Friday's game for sure.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/12, 9:37 PM CT
Brian McCann carried the Braves in Friday's 7-2 win at Baltimore, as he went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI. All four of his knocks were singles.

Brian McCann went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Monday's 7-6 win over the Pirates at Turner Field. His other hit was a single. The game went 15 innings.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/5, 9:19 PM CT
Brian McCann went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Brewers at Turner Field.

Our View: The Braves only mustered two hits in the game, the other recorded by Martin Prado. McCann has a hit in two of three outings in June, and is coming off a strong May as he hit .394.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/24, 6:48 PM CT
Brian McCann blasted two home runs in a 3-for-4, four RBI effort on Sunday as the Braves pummeled the Blue Jays 10-2.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/22, 10:03 PM CT
Brian McCann was 2-for-2 with a walk in the Braves 1-0 win over Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays. There were only ten hits and one walk total in the game.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/12, 10:48 PM CT
Brian McCann is loving the new glasses. He was 3-for-4 on Tuesday in the Braves ten-inning 4-3 loss to the Mets.

Our View: Since returning from the DL and correcting his vision issues, McCann has nine hits in 20 at-bats and has raised his average from .195 to .279. Looks like the sweet swinging catcher is back.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/9, 5:36 PM CT
Brian McCann was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the Braves' 6-2 win over the Phillies on Saturday.

Our View: Looks like the glasses are working for the slugging catcher. Scary vision issues looked like they would derail McCann's career (possibly permanently), but today's performance was a big sigh of relief. Keep him in your lineup, as he seems to be back on track.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/8, 3:22 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Brian McCann has been activated from the 15-day DL, according to TSN. The club sent catcher Clint Sammons down to the minors as the adjoining move.

Our View: He is slated to return to the starting lineup tonight against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. He believes his new glasses have fixed his vision problem, and he should be penciled back into fantasy lineups.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/8, 7:12 AM CT
Brian McCann is having good results with his new glasses in his minor league rehab assignment and feels ready to return to the Braves, according to the Associated Press. He believes his blurred vision has been corrected by the glasses and he said, "I definitely see better when they are on. I let a ball get back to the backstop that I normally do not let get back there. I am still going to have to feel them out."

Our View: McCann is confident he will be activated today. The Braves will play tonight at Philadelphia. Stay tuned for updates regarding McCann's status.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/5, 5:38 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Braves have sent catcher Brian McCann to Triple-A on a rehab assignment. He has been on the disabled list since April 23rd with an eye infection.

Our View: McCann will play Wednesday and Thursday's games in Triple-A and, barring any setbacks, should be available for Friday's matchup against the Phillies. Be sure to pull McCann out of your DL spot assuming all goes well in the next two days. Here's hoping the new glasses work out.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/1, 6:31 PM CT
USA Today is reportng that Brian McCann has given up on contacts and will begin wearing glasses while playing. He has been on the DL becuase of blurred vision.

Our View: Hopefully McCann will be able to come off the DL when eligible on May 8, but it will depend on how he responds to the glasses or if he decides to go back to contacts. It is likely that he will be ready, but stay posted on the situation. When he does get this problem solved, he is still a top option at the catcher position.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/29, 10:56 AM CT
Catcher Brian McCann was pleased with the results of his new contacts that he tried out on Tuesday night. He is rehabbing at High-A Myrtle Beach. "When I had my contacts in tonight, I could see really good," McCann tells MLB.com on Tuesday night. "This is the best that I've been able to see in a long time. Toward the end of the game, my eyes started to get a little bit dry. So tomorrow night, I'm going to try to use some drops and see how it feels." He is on the DL due to left eye issues.

Our View: It sounds like a step in the right direction, but it would be nice if McCann could go nine innings without dryness issues. He is not eligible to return from the DL until May 8, so he'll have more time to try new routines. Lasik surgery is not out of the question at this point.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 4/28, 9:47 AM CT
Brian McCann visited an eye specialist Monday, trying out contact lenses for his left eye, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: McCann is on the DL with blurred vision and dryness in his left eye. He tried to play through the ailment with two different contact lenses and eye drops, but the blurred vision remained. An eye specialist in Washington told the elite catcher last week that the vision in his left eye had deteriorated since his Lasik surgery before last season. McCann thought he may be headed for more Lasik surgery to correct the problem. Hopefully his new contact lens will alleviate the issue.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 4/25, 8:33 AM CT
Brian McCann has been placed on the DL due to continuing issues with his left eye, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: McCann has been experiencing dryness and blurred vision in his left eye, and though the team tried to downplay things by saying he just needed time to get used to a new contact, it was pretty clear that something just wasn't right. It appears that he might be forced to undergo another Lasik procedure to correct what ails him. Look for David Ross to handle the majority of the workload for the next two weeks, with McCann hopeful of returning when eligible. Clint Sammons has been recalled to take his roster spot.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/24, 7:24 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Brian McCann was a late scratch for Friday's game due to a recurring eye problem. David Ross will catch in his place.

Our View: McCann is adjusting to a new contact lens, but continues to have vision problems. It's getting increasingly frustrating for fantasy owners to figure out what days he is in the lineup. The condition doesn't sound good, and McCann will quickly lose his elite fantasy status if this isn't remedied.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/22, 11:27 AM CT
Brian McCann will not start tonight's game at Washington while adjusting to a new contact lens, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: McCann has been suffering from blurred vision since opening day, but there is belief he could put off Lasik eye surgery with the contact. That could explain why McCann is hitting an anemic .189 over 37 at-bats so far.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 4/21, 3:49 PM CT
Brian McCann was fitted with a new contact lens for his left eye and is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: This is a bit of a surprise, as it was believed McCann would be unavailable for at least another few days. Feel free to keep him in your lineup for the foreseeable future, and keep your eyes open for any new news on the situation.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/20, 7:30 PM CT
Brian McCann, who's been suffering from blurry vision in his left eye, is scheduled to see an eye doctor on Tuesday and is listed as day-to-day for the moment, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: "He can't start," Braves manager Bobby Cox said Monday. "He can come into a game and help you, but right now we don't want to start him." This appears to be a potentially serious problem that looks to keep McCann limited to pinch-hit duties for the next few days, and a trip to the DL isn't completely out of the question. David Ross will start until McCann is ready to return.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/19, 7:24 AM CT
Brian McCann has been dealing with dryness and blurry vision in his left eye since Atlanta's opening series in Philadelphia, though he isn't sure if it's being caused by an irritant or if his vision has already regressed after Lasik surgery from 2007, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Either my eyesight's changed, or I have a dry spot in my eye," said McCann. "I tried wearing contacts for a week, and it didn't work. Now I've got some antibiotic drops, and hopefully that will clear it up. I'm not going to sit here and make excuses. I'm trying to fight through it."

Our View: This news helps to explain the star catcher's current 1-for-20 slump at the plate. It seems like he should be able to get through the issue with his antibiotics, although it's not out of the question that he could need another Lasik procedure; if that were the case he'd have to miss a few games, and a trip to the DL would be possible. For the time being it looks like he'll continue to play, although you may want to think about subbing in another catcher in McCann's place until he provides proof that he's back to his normal self.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/15, 3:03 PM CT
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Brian McCann is likely to get his first day off of the season on Thursday. He will be replaced by David Ross, who is expected to be activated from the disabled list.

Our View: Adjust your lineups accordingly, as McCann was due for a day off. A rest may do him some good as he has cooled off a bit over the past few days.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/8, 6:00 PM CT
Brian McCann was 2-for-4 with a home run and three driven in on Wednesday. He also walked and scored a pair of runs in the Braves 12-11 loss to the Phillies.

Our View: McCann should put up spectacular numbers once again this season and is arguably the top fantasy catcher in the game. A few more years and the Mike Piazza comparisons will start popping up.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/5, 10:26 PM CT
Brian McCann hit a two-run home run off Brett Myers in the first inning of MLB's season opener on Sunday night. It was his only hit of the contest.

Our View: Everyone's favorite fantasy catcher started 2009 with a bang. His home run was a towering shot that landed in the upper deck of Philly's bandbox. Expect 20-25 more of those this season.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/29, 1:50 PM CT
Brian McCann's bruised right middle finger is considered a minor ailment, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: The elite catcher is day-to-day, but the doctor indicated that McCann will be fine.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/28, 5:29 PM CT
Brian McCann suffered just a bruised finger on Saturday after he took a foul tip off the bat of Mark Teixeira, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: McCann may miss a game or two with the bruise, but will otherwise be fine.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/22, 11:01 PM CT
Brian McCann was 0-for-1 with three walks and a run scored in Sunday's 9-4 loss to Japan. He hit .375 for the tournament.

Our View: One of the game's elite catchers played well throughout the WBC, and the Braves will need him to anchor their unstable lineup for the rest of 2009. He does not throw many runners out, but that won't hurt you in fantasy leagues. The Braves need his consistent bat and sharp eye for their offense to have success and he'll provide a similar boost to his fantasy owners team as well.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/1, 3:49 PM CT
Catcher Brian McCann went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and a run scored in the Braves' 7-3 loss to the Phillies.

Our View: The Braves will need McCann to be the main source of power in their lineup this season, which means he'll need protection from the likes of Chipper Jones and Jeff Francoeur.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 2/27, 4:25 PM CT
Brian McCann went 1-for-1 with two walks against Pittsburgh on Friday.

Our View: McCann has been rock solid the past three seasons. He's a lock to go top-four at catcher and makes as good a case as any to be the first off the board at the position.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 2/5, 9:39 AM CT
Brian McCann is expected to represent the United States in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He would be joining Braves' teammate Chipper Jones.

Our View: McCann can afford to play in the WBC as he is an elite catcher and won't be pushed for his No. 1 role in Atlanta.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 11/20, 11:14 AM CT
Brian McCann has trimmed 20 pounds since the end of the 2008 season, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He has dealt with knee ailments, and is hoping slimming down will help him stay healthier.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 11/13, 5:54 PM CT
Brian McCann won his second Silver Slugger award on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: McCann also won the award in 2006. Most of McCann's numbers in 2008 were down from 2006, but he's still one of the top two offensive catchers in the majors along with the Twins' Joe Mauer.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/21, 1:47 PM CT
Braves catcher Brian McCann is one of the best at his position offensively, but that is not enough for him, as he plans to improve his defense, according to Braves.com. "I need to make my weaknesses my strength," McCann said.

Our View: The 24-year-old has thrown out only 22% of the runners attempting to steal off of him, which is dead last in the National League. Fantasy owners can only hope improving his defense doesn't take anything away from the great numbers he puts up at the plate.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/3, 3:26 PM CT
Brian McCann had a tough day at the plate in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Marlins, as he went 0-for-4 while stranding three men on base.

Our View: He was on the verge of cracking .300, but his average falls down to .295 following today's peformance. He has now gone hitless in two straight games.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/1, 3:10 PM CT
Braves catcher Brian McCann had a difficult day on Monday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his team's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

Our View: McCann is coming off a 6-for-11 streak, so his rare day of trouble should be acceptable to fantasy owners.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 8/30, 10:13 PM CT
Brian McCann went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's 9-8 loss to Washington. he recorded a double and a solo homer.

Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/29, 11:19 PM CT
Brian McCann went 2-for-3 in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Nationals.

Our View: He didn't register an RBI, but notched his sixth multi-hit game of August, and raised his season average a few points to .294.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/28, 9:04 PM CT
Brian McCann had only one hit on Thursday, but it was a three run home run in the Braves 4-2 victory over the Marlins.

Our View: McCann has been a stud this year, especially with the injuries to guys like Victor Martinez and Jorge Posada, on his way to 22 home runs and 75 RBI, not to mention a .292 batting average, from the catchers position.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 8/9, 11:32 PM CT
The Braves remembered to pack their bats tonight as they visited Dan Haren and the Arizona Diamondbacks, turning 14 hits into 11 runs for the 11-4 win. The man of worth was catcher Brian McCann, going 2-for-5 at the dish with his 21st homer of the season to total four RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: McCann is stroking it of late, hitting .333 in July and sporting an average of .346 thus far through August. He also added his fourth stolen base of the season.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 8/6, 5:48 PM CT
Brian McCann was 1-for-8 in his first two games back from a concussion, but on Wednesday he was up to his old tricks, going 3-for-4 with a double and run scored.

Our View: McCann looks to be good to go moving forward, though he's not going to drive in many runs in Atlanta's Triple-A looking offense.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/4, 10:25 AM CT
Brian McCann is set to return to the Braves' lineup Monday after missing a week with a mild concussion, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: His headaches related to the concussion have subsided, and he should be safe to return to roto-lineups for the new fantasy week.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/1, 6:43 PM CT
Brian McCann, who has been on the shelf after receiving a head injury on a play at the plate, has been given clearance to pinch hit on Friday night, according to the Associated Press. Backup catcher Corky Miller was designated for assignment.

Our View: McCann will likely only pinch hit through the weekend, though he plans on returning to the starting lineup on Monday, so keep that in mind when setting your lineup next week with the power hitting catcher.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/27, 8:28 PM CT
Brian McCann, who was involved in a home plate collision with Shane Victorino on Sunday, has been diagnosed with a mild concussion and will likely miss the next three to four games. He does not expect to go to the disabled list.

Our View: McCann's unavailability means the Braves will likely place Chipper Jones on the 15-day disabled list with a sore hamstring and call up another catcher. We'll keep you posted.
Brian McCann, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/27, 4:57 PM CT
Brian McCann left Sunday's game in the sixth following a collision at the plate with Shane Victorino. He was visibly shaken while attempting to leave the field and will be checked for a concussion. Victorino, the Flyin' Hawaiian, stayed in the game.

Our View: This probably makes McCann, one of the best producing catchers in baseball, a questionable play this week. We'll update the story as more news becomes available.
