Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 1/19, 12:52 PM CT
The Cubs and Tom Gorzelanny have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $800,000 deal, according to the Chicago Daily Herald.

Our View: Gorzelanny showed a few nice flashes of talent with the Cubs last season after coming over from Pittsburgh. He should compete for a role in middle relief and also has the ability to start games should Chicago's starting rotation get hit with a few injuries.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 10/2, 4:54 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was rocked for seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over a mere three innings in Friday's 12-3 loss to the Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: Gorzelanny really struggled today after allowing two or less earned runs in each of his previous two starts. He now carries a 5.55 ERA.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 9/26, 6:30 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny held the Giants to one run on five hits and three walks over five innings on Saturday. He fanned five and earned his seventh victory after the 6-2 Chicago win.

Our View: Gorzelanny has been decent in his return to the Chicago rotation. He hasn't lasted longer than five innings in either start, but is 2-0 and has fanned 14 in ten innings.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 9/21, 10:30 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny only allowed two earned runs on six hits over five innings in Monday's 10-2 win at Milwaukee. He had one walk and racked up nine strikeouts.

Our View: Gorzelanny pitched very well tonight, and earned his first win since August 15. His career mark is now 28-27.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/21, 12:26 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny allowed just two runs in five innings on Thursday, but the Cubs bullpen melted down after he left, allowing five runs in what would end up being a 7-2 Dodgers win.

Our View: Gorzelanny has allowed just three combined runs in his last two starts, but has also gone just five innings in both of those games. Not a great recipe for picking up Ws.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 8/15, 2:53 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny didn't make things easy for his swooning former club on Saturday, fanning eight Pirates in just five innings, as the Cubs won 3-1 at home.

Our View: Gozelanny is now 2-1 as a Cub, and despite his 5.24 ERA, a decent option in NL-only leagues. His 1.16 WHIP indicates that he's simply been unlucky with the runners that he does allow on base. Expect that number to rise a little bit, but for that ERA to fall, as well.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 8/10, 8:54 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny left Monday's game at Colorado after being struck in the right leg by a hard grounder in the second inning, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Esmailin Caridad replaced him on the mound to make his major league debut. The severity of Gorzelanny's injury is yet to be determined.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 8/4, 10:29 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was very impressive in his Cubs' debut on Tuesday as he picked up the win in Chicago's 6-3 victory over the Reds. Gorzelanny went 7.1 innings and allowed only one run on three hits while walking one and striking out six.

Our View: This was more than anyone, even the Cubs, expected from Gorzelanny tonight. He doesn't figure to be a long-term fixture in the rotation, but if the Cubs can get outings like this out of him, he may force them to find a spot for him. Don't get too swept away, however, since this was against a Reds team that is struggling more than any other team in the league right now.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 8/4, 5:40 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny has officially been activated by the Chicago Cubs and he will start Tuesday night's game against the Reds, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. To make room on the roster, the team placed infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day DL with a strained calf.

Our View: Gorzelanny is expected to make a few starts with the time while Ted Lilly is out, but he doesn't look like a strong fantasy option at this point. Gorzelanny has spent most of the season in the minors, and it seems likely that he will he heading right back there before long.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 8/1, 11:05 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny will join the Cubs on Saturday. He will throw a bullpen session and is scheduled to start on Tuesday against the Reds, MLB.com reports.

Our View: Gorzelanny should have a chance to make a couple starts while Ted Lilly is out, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to stick in the rotation.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 7/30, 5:02 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny and reliever John Grabow have been traded from Pittsburgh to Chicago in exchange for pitchers Kevin Hart and Jose Ascanio, and third baseman Josh Harrison, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Gorzelanny held a disappointing 5.19 ERA over 8.2 innings of relief with Pittsburgh this season, but he can still develop into a solid starter at only 27 years old. He should benefit from going to a better team with Chicago as well.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 6/15, 8:28 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny has resumed pitching, throwing four innings at Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Gorzelanny allowed one run on two hits and one walk while being limited to 60 pitches. The hurler has a 5.19 ERA in nine appearances for the Bucs this season, all in relief. Should he return as a starter or reliever, he has extremely limited fantasy value.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 6/10, 9:08 AM CT
The Pirates have optioned pitcher Tom Gorzelanny back to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Our View: Gorzelanny will return to a starting role after appearing in relief for the Bucs. We're not holding out hope of him helping fantasy teams this season.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 6/1, 10:56 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Pirates plan to send pitcher Tom Gorzelanny back to Triple-A later this week to resume his role as a starter. Gorzelanny has been working out of the bullpen since being recalled on May 17.

Our View: The Pirates still view Gorzelanny as a starter, and right now they feel he can better help the team going forward in that capacity. He is a long shot for fantasy contribution this season, but if he does return as a starter he may be worth a look.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 5/21, 9:13 AM CT
The Pirates have been pleased with Tom Gorzelanny while working out of the bullpen, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. GM Neal Huntington said, "We are very pleased. He has come in, been very aggressive, attacked the zone, shown better command than he had last year as a starter and even better than he had in the minor leagues this season, according to our reports."

Our View: His future is as a starter, and could work his way back into the rotation if he continues to perform well in his relief appearances. He is building up his confidence, and could also start if the Pirates suffer an injury in the rotation or if any of their hurlers struggle. He is worth stashing as a flier for NL-only leagues.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSunday 5/17, 10:53 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny has been recalled by the Pirates from Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Tyler Yates was placed on the 15-day DL as the adjoining move.

Our View: The former starter will replace Yates in the bullpen, but is worth a look as a flier for NL-only leagues in case he works his way back into the rotation.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 3/18, 9:07 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: He was competing for a spot in the rotation, but failed to impress while allowing eight hits and five walks over nine innings (four starts) this spring. He is no longer worth taking as a late-round pick in NL-only leagues.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 3/10, 9:17 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was rocked for four earned runs in Monday's loss to the Red Sox, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He did not last the four innings he was scheduled to pitch, and Gorzelanny said, "Obviously, the results were not there. There were some things I was working on out there, and this is the time to do it. It is a few things, tightening some mechanics. I felt like I made good strides."

Our View: Gorzelanny continues to struggle after holding a 6.66 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 21 starts in 2008. He should only be considered as a late-round pick for deeper NL-only leagues.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 3/4, 3:26 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny wasn't as sharp Wednesday as in his initial start, but still only allowed one run over two innings against the Twins. The two walks he allowed however were concerning.

Our View: Control is still an issue with Gorzelanny. His problems finding the plate turned him from fantasy surprise in 2007 to fantasy poison in 2008. The increased walks ballooned his ERA last season to a hellish 6.66.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 2/27, 3:24 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is off to a good start as he threw two hitless innings in Friday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta. It would have been a great outing if not for two walks.

Our View: Gorzelanny struggled with walks last season, as he issued 70 over 105.1 innings. That is one area he needs to work on through spring training.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 2/5, 12:10 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is focused on bouncing back in 2009 after holding a dismal 6.66 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 21 starts last season, according to MLB.com. He said, "It is something that you try to forget as quickly as possible. Dwelling on what happened in the past is not something that is going to make you any better. You can learn from what you've done in the past, though. I am not going to say that I am going to take back every mistake. I am going to learn from every mistake."

Our View: Gorzelanny looks to be the most experienced among the starters in the Pirates' rotation this season, and he could be worth a look in NL-only leagues in the closing rounds of the draft.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 11/13, 1:51 PM CT
Pirates left-handed starter Tom Gorzelanny will begin throwing at the end of the month, as he rehabs from a strained ligament in the middle finger of his throwing hand, according to Pirates.com.

Our View: Gorzelanny was an epic disappointment to fantasy owners last year, with an ominous ERA of 6.66 and more walks than strikeouts in 105.1 big league innings.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 9/13, 7:48 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is done for the year due to a sprained middle finger on his pitching hand, according to the Beaver County Times. "It's a frustrating end to a frustrating season," Gorzelanny said. "It's unfortunate for it to end this way. I wanted to be able to pitch a few more times but now I'll just get an earlier start on my off-season workouts and work hard on coming back stronger and having a better season next year."

Our View: Gorzelanny ends the year with the unfortunate ERA of 6.66 in what was a hugely disappointing season. Hopefully he'll rebound in 2009. Jimmy Barthmaier will take his spot in the rotation on Tuesday.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 9/12, 7:48 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to his irritated left middle finger, but will know for sure following today's MRI, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: If Gorzelanny is lost for the season, manager John Russell has several options in consideration. One is moving Jason Davis or T.J. Beam out of the bullpen and into the rotation. Another is a recall of a minor leaguer, such as Jimmy Barthmaier.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 9/11, 8:02 PM CT
Even though Tom Gorzelanny is injured and almost certain to miss his next scheduled start, if not the rest of the season, the Pirates still plan on going with a 6-man rotation the rest of the way, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The team will likely turn to either Jason Davis or T.J. Beam, or they could call up Jimmy Barthmaier to take Gorzelanny's spot in the rotation which would allow the Pirates to start each of the six men three more times this season. None of the three is fantasy worthy.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 9/11, 7:14 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny may miss the rest of the season with an injury to his left middle finger, according to the AP.

Our View: Manager John Russell suggested it might be ligament damage, but no definite diagnosis will be known until Gorzelanny undergoes an MRI on Friday when the Pirates return to Pittsburgh. The 26-year-old pitcher held little to no fantasy value with a 6.66 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 21 starts.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 9/10, 8:42 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was forced to leave his start on Wednesday night with an injury to his left middle finger, according to the Associated Press. Before exciting Gorzelanny allowed two runs in 2.1 innings to the Astros.

Our View: We don't have any more information to go on at this point, but this would be a minimal loss considering that Gorzelanny has a 6.66 ERA. Somewhere, Satan must be smiling.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 9/4, 3:08 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny continued his dismal season with another loss, dropping his record to 6-10. Gorzelanny surrendered three runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Our View: With Gorzelanny's ERA above six and still climbing , he has no value in any league.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 8/23, 9:38 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny's return to the Pittsburgh rotation did not go well. The lefty allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to Milwaukee.

Our View: This is the same Gorzelanny we saw earlier this year. His fall this year has been surprising, to say the least.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/22, 9:13 PM CT
After being recalled from the minor leagues, Tom Gorzelanny will make the start on Saturday, according to Pirates.com.

Our View: Gorzelanny has been a major disappointment after having a promising year in 2007. He does not warrant a spot on fantasy rosters.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/22, 2:32 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: He will start Saturday against the Brewers. He held a poor 6.57 ERA and 1.83 WHIP prior to his demotion and is not worth fantasy consideration, especially this week against a potent Milwaukee club.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/22, 7:36 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Matt Capps is also expected to be activated.

Our View: Gorzelanny is not worth holding for his return, as hemaintained a poor 6.57 ERA and 1.83 WHIP prior to his demotion.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/15, 8:04 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny and Ross Ohlendorf will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis for September (if not sooner), according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Six starters will be in the mix for the rotation. Gorzelanny is not worth holding for his return, as he was 6-7 with a 6.57 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over 17 starts prior to his demotion.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSunday 7/13, 8:33 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny made a start for Triple-A Indianapolis and threw well, giving up one run and four hits in three innings, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Obviously, we need arms, but we're looking at his future," Pirates manager John Russell said.

Our View: Gorzelanny was terrible this season after showing so much promise last year. He walked more people than he struck out, and should not have been on anybody's fantasy squad.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 7/12, 7:27 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is scheduled to start for Triple-A Indianapolis tonight, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He will pitch three innings or throw 50 pitches, whichever comes first.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 7/5, 3:11 PM CT
The Pirates optioned Tom Gorzelanny to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The southpaw is 6-7 with a 6.57 ERA and 1.83 WHIP, and he is coming off a rough outing against the Brewers.

Our View: Little has gone right for Gorzelanny this year, and fantasy owners likely gave up on him well before this. He seems too talented not to bounce back, but how many times have we said that about a Pirates pitcher before?
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 7/4, 4:08 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was rocked for seven earned runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings in Friday's 9-1 loss to the Brewers, with four walks and four strikeouts. He gave up two homers, one to Bill Hall and the other to JJ Hardy.

Our View: Gorzelanny now has a losing record at 6-7, with a 6.57 ERA. He only lost one decision in June, but is now back to his losing ways in his first start of July.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSunday 6/29, 4:48 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny struck out a season-high eight batters on Sunday against the Rays. He gave up eight hits and two runs (both on solo homers) over six innings. Gorzelanny took a no-decision.

Our View: Gorzelanny will wrap up June with a 4.66 ERA, which looks wonderful in comparison to his work in April and May. It's been a very disappointing campaign for the southpaw, and fantasy owners still can't trust him at this point.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 6/24, 9:46 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny picked up the win against the Yankees on Tuesday, the Pirates first such win since the 1960 World Series. He was not particularly sharp though. He walked five and gave up six hits in six innings.

Our View: Every dog has his day. Gorzy has had a terrible year as indicated by his 6.43 ERA. Still he has managed a 6-6 record.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 6/18, 10:00 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny allowed four runs on five hits in six innings of work but fell to 0-3 in Chicago this season. Two of those losses obviously against the Cubs. The Bucs southpaw walked four and struck out four.

Our View: Gorzelanny's ERA now sits at 6.59 and his WHIP climbed to 1.80. Ugly numbers from a left-handed National League starter.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 6/12, 3:44 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny allowed three runs on six hits over 5.2 innings in Thursday's exciting 7-5 win over the Nationals, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: It wasn't a great effort, but was good enough for him to even his season record to 5-5. He still holds a poor 6.65 ERA.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 6/7, 8:53 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny had one of his better outings of the season on Saturday allowing three runs over seven innings to the D'backs. Gorzelanny allowed five hits and three walks in the outing.

Our View: Gorzelanny has been hideous this season in almost every start, so don't think that one outing of value is worthy of your attention.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 6/2, 10:25 PM CT
It was a tale of two nights for Tom Gorzelanny on Monday. The southpaw allowed six hits, four runs, and two walks over the first three innings, but he settled in and served up only one hit over the next three frames. Gorzelanny ended up with a no-decision.

Our View: We'll find out in the next few days if Gorzelanny saved himself from a demotion or not. He's not worth trusting in fantasy leagues.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 6/2, 9:12 AM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is on a short leash, and GM Neal Huntington commented that he could be demoted to Triple-A if he continues to struggle, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Huntington added, "As hesitant as we would be to do something like that, yes, we would. We have to figure out the best course of action to get him back to his potential."

Our View: Gorzelanny only lasted two-thirds of an inning Tuesday in Cincinnati and has a 7.38 ERA over 46.1 innings. He will start tonight against the Cardinals, a team in which he is 1-3 against over his career.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 5/28, 9:08 PM CT
The night couldn't have gone much worse for Pittsburgh LHP Tom Gorzelanny , taking the loss as the Pirates fell 9-1 to the Reds. Gorzelanny got the start but lasted just 2/3 of an inning, throwing 38 pitches to allow six runs (all earned) on four hits with two walks.

Our View: Gorzelanny's ERA vaulted from 6.31 to 7.38 with the outing, taking his second loss of the month to bring his overall record to 4-5.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 5/22, 9:49 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny evened his record at 4-4 on Thursday as he held the Brewers to two runs in five innings of work. Tom allowed eight hits and four walks while only striking out two.

Our View: This outing leaves him with 35 BB and just 26 BB. That's all you really need to look at to realize you are playing with fire without any protection if you start Gorzelanny.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 5/22, 2:59 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny will try to even his record to 4-4 when the Pirates host the Brewers tonight, according to MLB.com. Gorzelanny is 3-4 with a 6.64 ERA and 1.72 WHIP over 40.2 innings, with 24 strikeouts.

Our View: Gorzelanny should not be considered for your lineup tonight, especially against the intimidating Brewers' lineup that features the hot hitting Ryan Braun. Gorzelanny was rocked for seven runs in his last start, and that was the third time he allowed seven over eight starts.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 5/16, 4:16 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny was torched for seven runs on Friday over six innings in his fourth loss of the season. On the afternoon Gorzelanny was victimized for four home runs by the Cubbies.

Our View: Momma said there would be days like this. With this outing, Gorzelanny's ERA ballooned to 6.64 and it's becoming very apparent that Tom just isn't a consistent enough option to roll out there every start, an obvious statement to make given the fact that he has allowed seven earned runs three times in eight starts on the year.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/10, 8:57 PM CT
Pittsburgh LHP Tom Gorzelanny put his best foot forward today to lead his Pirates to a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Gorzelanny pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on seven hits. He struck out four, walked two, and gave up a dinger to 1B Mark Teixeira.

Our View: This evens Gorzelanny at a record of 3-3 gives him consecutive wins for the first time this season. It is also the first time he has pitched more strike outs than walks in a single game this season.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 5/7, 9:05 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that Tom Gorzelanny, who missed his last start because of soreness in his lower back, has "a lot less" discomfort.

Our View: Gorzelanny, who came to PNC Park to play catch Monday, is scheduled to start Saturday night against Atlanta.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 10:44 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Pirates have decided to give LHP Tom Gorzelanny extra rest, skipping his scheduled start on Tuesday as he battles with a strained lower back, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Gorzellany left his last start early on Wednesday with back soreness, and now the Pirates are playing cautious, pushing his next start to a home outing against the Atlanta Braves next Saturday.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 5/1, 7:57 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny is dealing with back tightness and as a result the Pirates plan to monitor him very closely moving forward, according to MLB.com. Tom will throw on Friday and that will go a long ways toward determining the teams next move. "It's one of those things we'll monitor over the next few days," manager John Russell said. "If something changes, we'll re-evaluate."

Our View: The team is still saying that they expect Gorzelanny to make his next start, scheduled for Tuesday, as they really seem to think that there is nothing to this back tightness thing. Time will tell, but the safe move is to plan on replacing Tom in your lineup for at least the next week, and maybe much longer considering how poorly he has pitched this year.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 4/30, 5:54 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, it appears the back tightness that hampered Tom Gorzelanny in his start earlier today will not cause him to miss his next start, according to MLB.com. "As far as I know, he should be fine," manager John Russell said. "We'll just have to monitor it the next few days. It's just a tight back right now. There's no pain in his legs or anywhere else.

Our View: Honestly, we don't know if this is good news or not consider the hideous numbers that Tom is putting up there right now. Still he pitched five shutout innings today despite five walks, so there is some hope that things will improve, provided he really isn't injured.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 4/30, 3:05 PM CT
Lefty Tom Gorzelanny bent over in pain after a fifth-inning pitch against the Mets today, then left the game after getting the inning’s last out, according to the AP. Manager John Russell and a trainer quickly came out of the dugout and appeared to be examining his back.

Our View: Gorzelanny won't be missed as a fantasy pitcher if he is to miss time, as he was 1-3 with a 8.46 ERA and 2.06 WHIP heading into today's game.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 4/24, 9:42 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny limped home to his third loss on Thursday, and though he allowed just three runs in five innings, the number that jumps out at you is his seven walks.

Our View: Gorzelanny just can't find the strike zone with any frequency this season with an amazing 22 BB in 22.1 IP. You just can't have a guy like that in your lineup no matter how desperate you are.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSunday 4/13, 11:54 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny showed improvement on Sunday, thanks to a better approach. "He was more aggressive in the strike zone," manager John Russell tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "The quality of his pitches was better. He got ahead of guys and put them away. His command and his stuff was more consistent than it had been." Gorzelanny was roughed up in his April 7 but held the Reds to one run over 6.1 innings on Sunday.

Our View: We still believe the southpaw will be able to produce a sub-4.00 ERA before the season is out, but we are worried about the shoulder soreness that has been popping up. You should start him in NL-only leagues, but mixed league owners may want to continue to wait and see if he is indeed back.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsMonday 4/7, 6:04 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny had a terrible outing on Monday as he allowed seven runs in just 2.1 innings against the Cubs. Gorzelanny now owns a 10.80 ERA over 8.1 innings this year, and he has walked seven batter with only five strike outs. He may or may not be injured, but the bottom line is that he has a ton of work to do before he is worth using in any league at the moment.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 4/2, 9:35 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny picked up a loss on Wednesday night as he allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. Gorzelanny lead the Pirates with 14 victories last season, and there is no disputing that his future is bright if he can avoid the injury concerns that have been present with him the past few years.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 4/2, 1:41 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny will take the hill tonight as Pittsburgh battles Atlanta, according to the Sports Network. He led the Pirates with 14 wins last season, and earned a no decision in his last meeting with Atlanta.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 3/27, 4:35 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny earned his first win of the spring against the Yankees on Thursday as he only allowed one run on two hits over six innings of work, with two walks and two strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 6.23 and this was a good day for the Pirates projected number two starter.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsFriday 3/21, 5:59 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny looked terrible on Friday as he allowed nine hits, two walks and five earned runs in a five inning loss to the Reds. Gorzelanny has only two K in 11.1 innings this spring, and his ineffective work on the hill, and some minor issues with his shoulder, mark him as a huge question mark heading into April.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsThursday 3/6, 7:24 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny threw a first pitch strike to only one of nine hitters on Thursday and he allowed five runs, all earned on two hits, two walks and a hit batter. At least he was able to throw without incident given the fact that he has been dealing with a sore left shoulder this spring.
Tom Gorzelanny, P, Chicago CubsSunday 3/2, 10:39 PM CT
Tom Gorzelanny tossed a scoreless inning Sunday, giving up one hit with no walks and no strikeouts. The left-hander's first spring start was originally scheduled for Thursday but was pushed back because of shoulder soreness. He appears to be fine now, though.
