Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/20, 4:12 PM CT
Michael Bourn is still sore while dealing with a strained oblique, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Bourn was scratched for Friday's game, but is tentatively scheduled to return to the lineup Sunday versus the Mets. This is encouraging, as it sounds like the ailment is minor.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 3/19, 1:07 PM CT
Michael Bourn has been scratched from Houston's Friday game with an oblique strain, according to FanHouse's Jeff Fletcher.

Our View: Oblique injuries famously linger, so this should be a situation worth monitoring the next few days. Stay tuned.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 3/17, 3:54 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 3-for-3 with three runs and a steal against Washington on Wednesday.

Our View: That gives Bourn three steals this spring. He started off cold at the plate, so it's nice to see him boost his average back up with a performance like today's.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/13, 3:30 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Cardinals in spring action on Saturday. He stranded four runners.

Our View: So far this spring, Houston's speedy outfielder is hitting an abysmal .100, raising the question, which Bourn will show up this season? The one that hit .285 in 2009, or the one that hit .229 in 2008? The answer could go a long way toward determining how many wins a rapidly aging Houston team can muster in 2010.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 1/19, 3:41 PM CT
The Astros and Michael Bourn have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.4 million deal, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.

Our View: Bourn finally came into his own last season, finally matching at least satisfactory plate discipline and ability to make contact with his elite speed. Expect him to again be one of the league-leaders in stolen bases.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/1, 10:26 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 3-for-4 and stole his 49th base in the Astros 4-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday night.

Our View: Bourn now has an 11-game hitting streak. He has four multi-hit games over that stretch and has stolen three bases and scored nine runs over that stretch.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 8/30, 9:40 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two stolen bases in the Astros' 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Our View: Bourn now has 48 swipes this season, good for first in the NL. He's non existent in the power categories, but is hitting close to .300 on the season and can win you a category or two with his legs.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/19, 11:21 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI in the Astros' 6-3 win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

Our View: Bourn also stole two bases tonight, and he mde a couple of nice defensive plays as well. He is a stolen base machine, and he has developed into a very nice fantasy outfielder.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 8/10, 8:20 AM CT
Astros' outfielder Michael Bourn returned to the team's lineup on Sunday after missing three games with a sore left groin, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Bourn will resume his role as center fielder and leadoff hitter in Houston, and he should be fine going forward. Any leg injury to a guy who's speed is his top weapon is always a concern, but don't expect Bourn to be hurting much after his time off.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/5, 11:49 AM CT
According to Alyson Footer's Twitter account, Michael Bourn is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a sore left groin muscle.

Our View: The injury forced Bourn out of Tuesday's contest and appears to be a lingering issue. It's not considered serious, but he may need a couple days to rest it. Jason Michaels will take over center field until Bourn is up to snuff. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 7/10, 10:19 PM CT
Michael Bourn led the Astros in Friday's 6-5 win over the Nationals at Minute Maid Park, as he went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a solo homer off Scott Olsen. He also swiped a base.

Our View: Bourn ended an 18-game drought without a homer, and continues to lead the NL with 29 stolen bases. He also paces the Astros with 54 runs scored.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 7/2, 6:31 PM CT
Michael Bourn collected two hits, two runs and his 26th steal of the season on Thursday, as Houston trounced San Diego and a gang of bees 7-2 in Southern California.

Our View: Bourn is quietly having a huge 2009, and is a solid option in the outfield, primarily because of his frequent thefts and higher than usual average this season.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/20, 10:26 PM CT
Michael Bourn was huge for the Astros on Saturday as they beat the Twins 6-5. Bourn went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and two RBI.

Our View: Bourn is a solid fantasy option, mainly because of his stolen base ability. The home runs are nice added bonuses when they come, but his value rests with his speed. He is a nice guy to have on your team, so if he is a free agent you may want to give him a look.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 6/4, 10:29 PM CT
Michael Bourn was productive in Thursday's 10-3 loss to Colorado at Minute Maid Park, as he went 2-for-5 with an RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Houston only managed seven hits in the game. Bourn tied his career season-high with 10 doubles. He has a hit in four straight games, with seven total hits (two doubles) over the span.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 5/27, 8:46 PM CT
Michael Bourn was 1-for-3, scored the Astros' lone run and stole a base in a 6-1 loss to the Reds on Wednesday.

Our View: Bourn has very little power, but is hitting .286 with 16 steals and is a decent outfield option even in mixed leagues if you need steals and runs scored. Keep in mind though, he only has 11 extra-base hits this season.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 5/25, 5:58 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored as the Astros fell 8-5 to the Reds.

Our View: Bourn is up to 15 stolen bases ranking him first in the National League. He is hitless in six of his last 11 games, but has multiple hits in each of his other five. He is hitting .288 this season, which was his on-base percentage last year.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/14, 5:18 PM CT
Michael Bourn had a huge day for fantasy owners on Thursday, going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs, and two stolen bases. He now has 13 stolen bases on the season.

Our View: Bourn has become a good fantasy option with his play so far this season. He is a base stealing maniac, and his .317 average is a nice change from his past history. If he continues getting on base, expect him to pile up the stolen bases and the runs.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/3, 4:42 PM CT
Michael Bourn was 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Braves.

Our View: Bourn is now hitting over .300 on the season and has swiped eight bases, while only being thrown out twice. He's far from a power threat, but if he can keep the average up he will be a valuable fantasy player.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 4/24, 11:09 PM CT
Michael Bourn was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in the Astros' 5-2 loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Our View: Bourn is a legitimate speedster and if he can figure out how to hit .300 he would be a legitimate fantasy threat. He's hitting .286 and has swiped four bags this season. He still needs some more seasoning, but he's improving.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 4/4, 7:43 PM CT
Michael Bourn was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Houston's 4-3 loss to Cleveland on Saturday. He has 13 steals this spring.

Our View: Bourn has gotten relatively hot of late and he's actually getting on base at a decent clip. That's newsworthy as he had a pathetic .288 OBP a season ago. The Astros are among the most aggressive teams on the basepaths, and no one gets for green lights than Bourn.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/1, 2:57 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 3-for-3 in with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and even a walk as the Astros beat the Reds 7-2 on Wednesday.

Our View: Bourn raised his average to just .247 with his perfect day at the plate. However, he also now has 11 stolen bases this spring, and every indication points to another season of 40 steals. If he could do something with respect to his .288 OBP of 2008, he could be in line for more.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 3/19, 3:51 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 1-for-3 with a single in Thursday's 12-1 loss to the Mets. The Astros only mustered five hits in the game.

Our View: Bourn is only hitting .184 this spring. He stole 41 bases in 2008, despite a mere .288 OBP. He should remain a solid source for speed this season.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/3, 3:15 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Rays. He swiped two bases as well.

Our View: He now has four steals in spring action, and should be a rock-solid source for speed in 2009. Hopefully he can improve upon his .229 batting average and .288 OBP of 2008.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 2/11, 8:01 AM CT
Michael Bourn has signed a one-year deal with the Astros that will pay him $434,500, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Bourn was hideous at the plate in 2008, hitting .229/.288/.300. He is clearly of value for fantasy owners, however, due to his stolen base capability. He swiped 41 bags last season.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 10/7, 4:09 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Astros GM Ed Wade feels Michael Bourn should remain in center field next season. "The fact we’ve got (Darin) Erstad back and signed and people like (Reggie) Abercrombie and anything else we might be able to do during the offseason, there’s going to be some level of competition out there. But I think we saw the last week of the season what Michael can bring from performance and excitement to a ballclub,” Wade said.

Our View: In his rookie season, Bourn struggled at the plate. He hit just .229 with a .288 OBP. Once he got on, he was able to make things happen by stealing 41 bases and scoring 57 runs. He did improve as the season went on but he has a long way to go. His potential to steal 60 bases keeps him on the roto-radar.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 9/26, 10:10 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's close 5-4 win over the Braves. All three of his hits were singles.

Our View: Bourn has been hot down the stretch with multiple hits in four of his last six games. He also has three stolen bases over the span.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 9/25, 10:44 PM CT
Michael Bourn was 2-for-5 with four RBI in Thursday's 8-6 win over the Reds.

Our View: Bourn has had a season to forget at the plate for the most part. He is hitting .223 with a .284 OBP and a .294 slugging mark. He has 108 strikeouts to just 37 walks.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 9/21, 4:37 PM CT
Michael Bourn had three hits on Sunday but the big news were his two steals that gave him a total of 40 for the Astros.

Our View: Bourn is hitting .226 with a sickly .287 OBP, so the fact that he has stolen 40 bases is pretty amazing. If the kid could learn to take a walk (he has only 36), while putting the bat on the ball more frequently (105 K), he could easily swipe 50 bags.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 9/7, 5:32 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 0-for-4, but he did take a walk and steal his 37th base of the season as the Astros beat the Rockies 7-5.

Our View: Nice to see Bourn take a walk, which is something he has not done nearly enough of. His on-base percentage remains under .300, and he is hitting just .222, not the ideal situation for fantasy owners, despite his stolen base production.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 8/28, 7:45 AM CT
Manager Cecil Cooper stated that Michael Bourn will get most of the starts in center field in September, according to the Houston Chronicle. Cooper said, "We need Michael to go out and play consistently as far as his approach to the plate. I know defensively he’s been pretty good in the outfield and hasn’t had any problems and made some good plays and has made adjustments there. I just want to see the hitting part be more consistent and hit balls to left field and make better contact and have a better approach at the plate."

Our View: Bourn is only hitting .222 but should remain a solid source of speed in the final month as he has 34 stolen bases.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 8/8, 7:51 AM CT
Michael Bourn returned to the Astros' lineup Thursday for the first time since spraining his right ankle July 26 at Milwaukee, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "It’s about 80, 85 percent, but it’s going to be sore for a while so I have to go ahead and go with it."

Our View: As expected, he was rusty in his first game back as he went 0-for-5 against the Reds. If he can get on track through the weekend, namely in the stolen bases department, fantasy owners should pencil him back into lineups for the next week.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 8/7, 7:30 AM CT
Michael Bourn missed his 10th straight start Wednesday due to his sprained right ankle, but may be ready to return to the lineup for the series opener against the Reds Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I feel pretty good. I took fly balls two days ago, and I didn’t feel pretty bad. I move better to the left, going to the left, than going to the right. Maybe I’ll be ready."

Our View: This is good news he may return Thursday, but hopefully his speed won't be compromised, as he holds most of his fantasy value as a base stealer (has 33 steals over 97 games).
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/6, 7:35 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle states that Michael Bourn is almost ready to return to the Astros' lineup following his battle with a sprained right ankle.

Our View: He missed his ninth straight start Tuesday, but hopes to be ready to return by Thursday at the latest. He is still sore, but feels better. Hopefully his speed won't be compromised when he returns, as he holds most of his fantasy value as a base stealer (has 33 steals over 97 games).
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 8/4, 7:39 PM CT
Astros outfielder Michael Bourn was held out of tonight's game against the Cubs because of continued problems with his sprained right ankle, according to Astros.com.

Our View: Bourn is a one-trick pony in fantasy leagues, and only owners who desperately need steals should use him. His .290 on-base percentage and 15 RBI are problems in fantasy baseball.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 8/4, 7:57 AM CT
Michael Bourn was out of the Astros' starting lineup for a seventh straight game Sunday due to his sprained right ankle, according to the Houston Chronicle. He did some rehab work and said, "The swelling is going down, and it’s starting to get better, but hopefully I’ll be ready soon and I can go."

Our View: There is no certainty he will be able to return this week, starting with Monday's series opener against the Cubs. Fantasy owners should not plan on using him, especially since his speed and base-stealing ability will be compromised due to his ankle.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 8/1, 7:28 PM CT
Michael Bourn is still dealing with a sore ankle and as a result he was a late scratch from the Astros lineup on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Bourn is experiencing pain when he runs which is forcing him to run more on toes. The Astros will likely be careful with him this weekend as they certainly don't want to blow him out and lose him for an extended period of time. Darrin Erstad will likely continue to start in his place.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/30, 7:35 AM CT
Michael Bourn will likely be held out of the lineup until Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle. That way the club will take advantage of Thursday's off day to give his sprained right ankle another day to heal.

Our View: Bourn was hitting .500 in the five games before his injury, and has 33 stolen bases for the season. He should be safe to pencil back into fantasy lineups for the upcoming fantasy week.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 7/28, 7:41 AM CT
Michael Bourn is expected to remain out of the Astros' lineup until at least Tuesday due to his sprained right ankle, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I could feel it around the whole ankle, so I don’t think it’s like a sprain. I just jammed it pretty good."

Our View: His speed will be missed, as well as his bat, as he is hitting .400 since July 9, which is the highest average among any member of the club during that stretch.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 7/25, 10:44 PM CT
It's unusual to make a note when a player takes a walk, but Michael Bourn now has three walks in his last four games played. This is big news for a guy who had an on-base percentage of .282 coming into the game.

Our View: If Bourn can continue to show good plate discipline, maybe he can put all that speed to good use.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 7/21, 8:57 PM CT
Michael Bourn is in the starting lineup on Monday for the first time since July 11, MLB.com notes. He is hitting second.

Our View: Bourn had had an awful July after picking up his play in June. We expected much more out of him this season, and it'll be interesting to see how much the Astros rely on him over the final months.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/9, 6:53 PM CT
Michael Bourn continues to struggle so Darin Erstad and Hunter Pence have been filling the leadoff role for the Astros. In fact, Erstad has been finding the starting lineup more recently. Bourn was held out of Monday's game for the third time over the Independence Day weekend and Erstad got most of his at-bats.

Our View: Bourn offers stolen bases, while Erstad offers more stability, including power. The veteran has 11 doubles and two home runs in 127 at-bats, while Bourn has six doubles and four home runs in 317 plate appearances.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 7/8, 10:07 AM CT
Michael Bourn did not start on Monday for the third time in four games, according to the Houston Chronicle. Darin Erstad took his place and manager Cecil Cooper said, "We'll go with the veteran Erstad, and we don't lose anything defensively. This guy is a Gold Glover, and he's ready to go every day."

Our View: Bourn is in a 0-for-19 slump, but Cooper noted that the change to Erstad isn't for the long term.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/5, 9:11 AM CT
Manager Cecil Cooper gave slumping outfielder Michael Bourn a day off on Friday. "My leadoff hitter was doing really well and got up to .240, .242 and then got into a slump," Cooper tells the Houston Chronicle. "He's doing the things we want him to do, but he's grinding and the average is going the other way." Darin Erstad started in his place.

Our View: Bourn has been a frustration for the Astros and fantasy owners alike. His speed requires that we use him, but his awful average and OBP are killers. The Astros are likely to continue showing patience with the youngster, as they'd like him to be a long-term solution in center.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/25, 10:40 PM CT
Showing some signs of actually life at the plate, Michael Bourn had two hits including his fourth home run of the year for the Astros.

Our View: Bourn also stole his 29th base of the year on the night, though his two hits broke an 0-for-13 slide over the past three games. You have to love the steals you get with Bourn, but you continue to pay a high price for them.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/18, 10:06 AM CT
Michael Bourn returned to the leadoff spot on Tuesday night. He hadn't been there since June 4. Bourn went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. "It's about that time," manager Cecil Cooper tells the Houston Chronicle. "He's playing well and swinging well. It's been that way for a few weeks now." Bourn is hitting .391 in June.

Our View: Bourn hasn't been quite as active on the base paths this month, but fantasy owners should be happy his average is on the rise. He needed to start hitting to save his job. Hopefully he can stay hot and start scoring more runs.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 6/12, 5:25 PM CT
Michael Bourn had two hits and stole two bases from the seventh spot in the order for the Astros.

Our View: Bourn has hits in four of his last five games to push his average to .228, its highest mark since April 16th. Still, you are paying a high price for those steals, and for a player with his speed to have only 26 runs scored in 63 games is almost criminal. That's right, he has as many steals as runs scored.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/11, 1:14 PM CT
Michael Bourn is no longer considered the Astros leadoff man. The young outfielder walks only seven percent of the time and his .280 OBP just isn't good enough to justify batting him first on speed alone.

Our View: Hunter Pence has returned to the top of the order.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 6/9, 10:20 AM CT
Michael Bourn was penciled back into the seventh spot in the Astros' lineup on Sunday, and may remain out of the leadoff spot for a while, according to the Houston Chronicle. Manager Cecil Cooper stated, "That's a young player we're talking about that hasn't played every day that much. Some guys it affects and some guys it doesn't. I'm not saying it affects Michael. We haven't had enough time to see that. It might affect him. I don't know."

Our View: Hunter Pence is serving as the leadoff hitter. Bourn has 24 stolen bases, but is only hitting .224 over 223 at-bats, with 52 strikeouts. He is better suited for his lower spot in the order for the time being.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/7, 9:49 PM CT
Michael Bourn will likely begin to lose playing time with the Astros recent decision to call up Reggie Abercrombe, according to the Houston Chronicle. "I spoke to Reggie early today about what the plans are," manager Cecil Cooper said. "Initially the plans will be for him to be maybe get some at-bats that Michael (Bourn) might not get. They'll kind of split some time. I won't say split time, but he'll get his starts when Michael's not playing.

Our View: Finally. We love the kids wheels, but he is simply deficient at the plate right now with a .274 OBP that is barely passable for a gold glove shortstop let alone a purported leadoff hitter.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 6/1, 8:39 AM CT
Michael Bourn was held out of the lineup on Saturday in order to clear his head. "Bourn needs a break more than anything else," manager Cecil Cooper informs the Houston Chronicle. "I think that's the primary reason. He's been really grinding and churning." Darin Erstad started in his place on Saturday.

Our View: Bourn is batting only .208 with a .271, and we worry about Cooper running out of patience. Apparently the manager hasn't hit the breaking point, yet.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/29, 11:38 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 0-for-3 at the plate but he stole his 24th base of the season for the Astros.

Our View: Bourn has been hitting the ball better of late hitting .281 over his last 14 games, but his OBP is still languishing below .280 on the year which just won't get it done from the leadoff spot. However, Bourn clearly has manager Cecil Cooper's confidence which would seem to mean that Bourn will be out there no matter how poor a job he does of getting on base.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/24, 9:07 PM CT
Michael Bourn had two hits, scored two runs and stole his 22nd base in Saturday's win over Philadelphia.

Our View: The speedster has picked up a hit in eight of his last nine games, raising his average from .181 to .221. Bourn still has a ways to go as a hitter, but he appears to be coming along.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/22, 11:12 PM CT
Michael Bourn had two hits on Thursday night, and is now 9-for-21 over his last five games (.429). He also stole his 21st base of the season.

Our View: It's nice to see Bourn push that average up to .214 but he still has a long way to go before we can label him as anything resembling a quality leadoff hitter, but alas, it is a good start.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/18, 8:50 PM CT
Michael Bourn was re-inserted back into the leadoff spot on Sunday and he responded by picking up two hits in four AB to leave him with a .192 average. He was also caught stealing twice in the game.

Our View: So all it took was a couple of hits to get Bourn thrown back to the top of the order? Cecil Cooper might be a good guy, but this is a simply horrific decision. Bourn is one of the five worst everyday hitters in the game this year and his only value is in through the stolen base. It's almost criminal for a leadoff hitter on such a potent offense to have scored 18 runs in 41 games.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/17, 8:47 AM CT
Michael Bourn commented on Manager Cecil Cooper's decision to drop him from the leadoff spot down to eighth in the order, according to the Houston Chronicle. Bourn said, "Not surprising because I'm struggling. If I'm hitting good, then I'm hitting first. I have to keep fighting through it. I'm not feeling too bad up there. I'm just not finding the holes. I guess I have to keep going at it and keep plugging along." Cooper added, "Maybe it will take some of heat off of him. He's a young player trying to make adjustments playing every day. That's really the big thing. We know the ability is there. Young players struggle. They're like a roller coaster. They go around and around, up and down. It just happens."

Our View: Bourn holds his most fantasy value as a base stealer, and was able to pick up steal number 18 from the eighth spot on Friday. He went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the game (against the Rangers) as well. He shouldn't be dropped from your roto-lineups as he can still steal bases, and was actually more productive hitting lower.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 5/16, 5:35 PM CT
Michael Bourn has been dropped from the leadoff spot in the Astros' batting order, and will now bat eighth, according to the Houston Chronicle. Hunter Pence will replace him at the top of the order.

Our View: Bourn has 17 stolen bases, but is only hitting .181 over 38 games, and only scored 16 runs while hitting ahead of Miguel Tejada, Lance Berkman, and Carlos Lee.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/15, 9:46 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts as his average fell to .181 for the season.

Our View: Bourn may have 17 SB, but the fact that he has just 16 runs scored batting in front of Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee and Miguel Tejada should tell you all you need to know. Look for him to be demoted to the bottom of the lineup, that is if Cecil Copper has any idea of what he is doing.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/11, 12:54 AM CT
The Astros took the 5-0 shutout win over the LA Dodgers this evening with leadoff man CF Michael Bourn doing more than his fair share to get it done. Bourn went 2-for-5 at the plate with one run scored and his 17th stolen base of the season.

Our View: Bourn now has four stolen bases in his last three games.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/8, 10:55 PM CT
Michael Bourn stole two bases on Thursday night to give him 15 on the year, though these were his first steals in 11 games as he has been dealing with a strained groin.

Our View: Bourn is under the Mendoza line at .197, and sooner or later the team is going to realize that having a leadoff hitter with a .275 OBP probably isn't a good idea. Bourn figures to remain in the lineup, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him dropped to 7th or 8th in the order.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 4/26, 11:18 AM CT
Michael Bourn hasn't played since Monday due to a strained left groin, but he said he is ready to return to action on Saturday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He commented, "I want myself not to be anxious, because when I'm anxious I'm over-anxious, too hyper, I guess you can say. I guess baseball isn't the sport to be too hyper. It's not like football where you want all your energy going. It's almost like Ray Lewis is always going. Baseball you have to pace yourself a little bit. You have to pace yourself a little bit and maintain your hype sometimes. I'll be anxious to get back out there, but we'll see how it goes tomorrow."

Our View: He is only hitting .216 over 74 at-bats, but has scored 10 runs and racked up 13 stolen bases (on only 16 hits and 10 walks). Can you imagine how productive he would be if he manages to get on base more? Target him if you can get him for a good price.

Center fielder Michael Bourn continues to make progress and is testing his sore left groin with sprints and quick bursts. Bourn said, notes the Houston Chronicle, he isn't optimistic about playing until Saturday, the second game of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

Our View: The Astros are carrying 13 pitchers and 12 position players after designating infielder Tomas Perez for assignment on Wednesday and are shorthanded on the bench until Bourn can return. The Astros outfielder is hitting .216 with two home runs, 10 runs scored and only four RBI on the young season. His most impressive number for Bourn are his 13 stolen bases without being caught this April.

Michael Bourn did not play on Wednesday because of his sore groin, and he likely also will not play on Thursday either, according to MLB.com. The good news is that he is feeling better and hopes to be back in there for Friday's game.

Our View: Bourn's value is almost completely in his legs as he is a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen bases this year, so keep an eye on if he tries to run this weekend before deciding whether or not you want to activate a .216 hitter for your lineup next week.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 4/22, 8:20 PM CT
Houston CF Michael Bourn has been given the night off due to a sore left groin, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Bourn suffered a strain stealing third base in the season opener against the San Diego Padres but he reports it is not serious and will not keep him out for long. Manager Cecil Cooper told reporters, "He's a little sore, but he could play. I think it's best (to rest him), rather than (have) something that grows into a two- or three-week deal. Take care of it, get a blow today and see how he is (Wednesday)." Bourn shouldn't be out more than a day or two.

Michael Bourn stole another two bases on Monday night to up his total to 13 in a blazing start to his '08 season.

Our View: Bourn also scored twice on Monday night, but he is still hitting just .216 though the team continues to roll with him in the leadoff spot each night.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 4/19, 9:05 PM CT
Michael Bourn stole two bases for the Astros on Saturday to up his season total to 11.

Our View: Bourn had a hit on the night but he is batting just .224 with an OBP of barely .300. Unless he finds a way to get on base more frequently, it will be almost impossible for him to keep up this pace on the basepaths.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 4/13, 6:10 PM CT
Michael Bourn flexed his muscles a bit on Sunday. The speedy outfielder hit his first home run (a solo shot) of the year off rookie hurler Burke Badenhop. Bourn added a single and a second run over five at-bats.

Our View: Bourn now owns two homers over 174 career major league at-bats. That pace sounds about right.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 4/7, 8:48 PM CT
Michael Bourn had two hits on Monday to boost his average to .250, but it is on the bases where he continues to impress with six SB on the young season. At this pace Bourn could challenge Rickey Henderson's all-time record of 130 SB in a season. We doubt he will get there, but he could be in his way to a 50-steal season if he can get on base enough to flash the wheels.
Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/2, 12:02 AM CT
Michael Bourn was 0-for-3 at the plate Tuesday and has just one hit in two games, but he walked twice and picked up his third steal of the year. If he can hit enough to stay in the leadoff spot all year, the speedster could end up swiping 50 bags.

Michael Bourn, CF, Houston AstrosWednesday 3/5, 7:01 PM CT
Michael Bourn went 0-for-3 with a walk leading off for the Astros on Wednesday. Bourn is now 5-for-18 (.278) so far this spring with two runs scored in six games as he tries to prove to the team that he is capable of filling the team's leadoff role on an everyday basis. Capable of 50 steals, Bourn figures to offer little in terms of fantasy production other than his wheels as his power is almost non-existent.

"If he does [stay], we'd probably give him a little more of an opportunity to play than people think," GM Pat Gillick said. "He's a good defensive player, and his speed is his best tool - and he can get the other team off balance."

Michael Bourn went 2-for-4 on Friday against Detroit and swiped his fifth bag of the spring. He's hitting .371 (13-for-35). Bourn is competing for a reserve outfield job, and he has great steals potential, even in a part-time role.
