Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 10/10, 12:01 AM CT
Erick Aybar went 2-for-3, tripled and drove in a pair of runs in the Angels 4-1 win over the Red Sox on Friday. LA now holds a 2-0 lead in the ALDS as the series heads to Boston.

Our View: The Halos were held to just six hits all game, but Aybar made his two count. The scrappy shortstop hit .312 during the regular season and acts as a second leadoff hitter, batting in the ninth spot. That plan has worked for the Angels so far, as he's hitting .429 for the series.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/15, 9:53 PM CT
Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 with an RBI in tonight's 4-1 loss at Boston. He hit a single and a double, and also swiped a base.

Our View: The Angels only mustered six hits in the game, and Aybar was their lone source of scoring. Aybar has a hit in nine of his last 11 games, and raised his batting average to .303.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/6, 4:55 PM CT
Erick Aybar had another big day at the plate on Thursday as the Angels beat the White Sox 9-5. Aybar went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View: Aybar has his average up to .311 for the season, and he is turning out to be a very good player. He has four homers on the season, and he is also contributing in the RBI, stolen base, and runs scored categories. He could be a nice addition if you need a shortstop for the stretch.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/21, 11:20 PM CT
Erick Aybar went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-2 win over the Royals in the bottom half of their doubleheader. He hit two singles, a double and a triple.

Our View: Aybar enjoyed a big day, as he racked up three hits in the first game of the twin bill. He is impressively hitting .491 over 53 at-bats this month.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 6/16, 12:06 AM CT
Erick Aybar led the Angels offensively in Monday's 9-7 win at San Francisco as he went 2-for-5 with a single and a two-run homer off Barry Zito.

Our View: Aybar has two hits in three of his last four games, with five RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy leagues while he is hot.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/16, 12:28 AM CT
Erick Aybar was huge for the Angels on Friday, but his team lost to the Rangers 10-8. Aybar was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Our View: Aybar has put up respectable numbers this season, but his value is limited to AL-only leagues. He doesn't do anything great, but he is a solid hitter, so he can provide some average.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/2, 6:00 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, X-rays on Erick Aybar's injured jaw came back negative, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: He had some teeth knocked loose when struck in the face when a ball ricocheted off Derek Jeter's helmet, but he is expected to be OK. Aybar may be able to return to the lineup as soon as Sunday.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/2, 12:54 PM CT
Infielder Erick Aybar left Saturday's game in the first inning after a throw to second bounced off Derek Jeter's helmet and hit Aybar in the upper left jaw, MLB.com reports. Maicer Izturis replaced Aybar.

Our View: We don't have any more details at this point, and we'll pass along information as it becomes available.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 3/30, 6:26 PM CT
Erick Aybar went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI in Monday's 13-3 win over the White Sox.

Our View: It was the third home run of the spring for the infielder, who may be on his way to earning an everyday job at shortstop. In 44 at-bats he is hitting .477 and slugging .829. He has three doubles and three triples to go along with his trio of home runs. He is still in competition with Brandon Wood, but he figures to be winning that battle at the present moment.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 12/5, 8:31 AM CT
Erick Aybar is named in a lawsuit regarding his involvement in a Winter League brawl that escalated when fans started throwing things at the players, and several players began throwing things back at fans, according to the Orange County Register. Aybar charged the mound with a bat.

Our View: A group of fans is suing over injuries stemming from the incident. He could face a suspension in the Dominican League, but it would not carry over into his time with the Angels. Ronnie Belliard and Timo Perez are also named in the lawsuit.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 12/4, 8:29 AM CT
Erick Aybar charged the mound with a bat during a brawl on the diamond during a Winter League game Saturday, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The league and an attorney contacted by some fans are investigating whether Aybar's actions and Licey teammates Ronnie Belliard and Timo Perez hurt spectators during a brawl that began when Aybar was hit by a pitch in the top of the eighth inning of Licey's game with Gigantes in San Francisco de Macoris. Aybar could be facing discipline.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 9/20, 9:11 AM CT
Erick Aybar played an entire game on Friday for the first time since returning from a hamstring injury, according to the L.A. Times. He came back earlier in the week, but was taken out in the middle of games until his stamina was back up.

Our View: Aybar had a successful evening, scoring three times and knocking home two runners with his three base hits. He is not much of a fantasy option, as he does not excel in any one area. He is hitting .280 with just three home runs and 38 RBI on the year.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/16, 11:41 PM CT
In his first game since injuring his hamstring on August 27th, Erick Aybar could not get on base. He started at shortstop, went 0-for-2, and was lifted for Brandon Wood.

Our View: This was according to plan as manager Mike Scioscia said earlier in the day, "We're going to work him back into our lineup slowly. He'll probably play about three innings then we'll get him out of there — get a read on his stamina."
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/16, 8:37 PM CT
Erick Aybar is back in the starting lineup Tuesday for the first time since injuring his hamstring on August 27, according to the Orange County Register. However, manager Mike Scioscia plans to work Aybar back into things slowly. He will play just three innings tonight. "We're going to work him back into our lineup slowly," Scioscia said. "He'll probably play about three innings then we'll get him out of there — get a read on his stamina."

Our View: Aybar will likely play in just one of the next two games.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 9/15, 9:55 AM CT
The LA Times reports that Erick Aybar could return to action at some point during this week's series with Oakland. He is recovering from a hamstring ailment.

Our View: The team wants to insure he is healthy for the playoffs, but is not expected to help fantasy teams lock up the league title over the final two weeks of the season as he provides very little in the power (three homers) and speed (six steals) categories.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 9/13, 7:56 AM CT
Erick Aybar tested his strained left hamstring before Friday's game by running the bases at near full speed, according to the LA Daily News. Aybar said it went well, but he wasn't sure when he'd return to the lineup.

Our View: Aybar should make a few appearances by the end of the regular season, but don't expect him to help out your fantasy squad much.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/7, 11:33 AM CT
Aybar (hamstring) took grounders on Saturday and is scheduled to run on Monday, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: It sounds like Aybar will return at some point this week.

Erick Aybar left the Angels game in the ninth inning on Wednesday with a left hamstring strain, and he will miss some time, though the team is not putting him on the DL, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/28, 12:52 AM CT
Angels shortstop Erick Aybar was a force of reckoning despite the the loss to Oakland, 6-5. Aybar went 2-for-4 at the dish with three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Aybar is in need of a lift, hitting just .239 this month with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. He's not likely to vault in production, but now is the time to get hot if you have it in the bank to do so.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/27, 9:36 AM CT
Angels shortstop Erick Aybar missed Tuesday's game and may miss the team's game on Wednesday after he jammed his neck sliding head-first into third base on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Aybar should be okay shortly, but he may want to start sliding feet first. He only has value in deep AL-only leagues, as he has hit just .274 with three home runs and 33 RBI for the year.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 8/3, 3:44 PM CT
The Angels may have suffered the devastating 14-9 loss to the Yankees today, but not due to the lack of effort from the top of the battling order. Third baseman Chone Figgins went 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot to total three runs scored, followd by shortstop Erick Aybar in the 2-hole to go 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBIs, and two runs scored on the day.

Our View: Aybar hit an impressive .317 last month but posted just eight RBIs and 11 runs scored. Figgins was worse, hitting .269 with just four RBIs and 15 runs scored, though he added seven stolen bases.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/25, 9:18 PM CT
With Macier Izturis missing his fourth straight game due to injury, Erick Aybar had two hits and scored twice for the Angels.

Our View: Aybar has hits in 6-straight appearances and is a useful spare part in AL Only leagues, albeit one with absolutely no upside.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/18, 7:45 PM CT
The Angels have activated infielder Erick Aybar from the 15-day disabled list, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Aybar landed on the DL when he dislocated his right pinky finger diving for a ball in the first inning of Anaheim's 3-1 victory over Toronto on May 20. Before the injury, Aybar hit .270 with 16 RBI and 21 runs scored in 43 games. To make room for Aybar, the Angels optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez to Triple-A Salt Lake. Rodriguez hit just .185 in 22 games with the big club this season.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 6/14, 8:17 AM CT
Erick Aybar hit again on Friday and took ground balls, the Los Angeles Times reports. He could start a minor league rehab assignment soon. Aybar is out due to a dislocated right pinky finger.

Our View: Maicer Izturis has been on fire lately and Howie Kendrick is healthy, so Aybar may not see much playing time when he's ready. The way it's gone for the Angels this year, though, Erick won't have to wait long until an injury opens up time.

Erick Aybar will be examined Monday by a hand specialist and could begin a rehab assignment next weekend if he is cleared to swing a bat, according to the LA Times. He has been on the DL since May 21 due to a dislocated right pinkie finger.

Our View: With Maicer Izturis' superb play of late, Aybar is unlikely to be a regular when he returns.

Erick Aybar has resumed throwing, but is not yet hitting, according to the LA Times. He has been on the DL since May 21 due to a dislocated right pinkie finger.

Manager Mike Sciosca said, "There's certainly a possibility of going on the DL. It's really swollen. We'll get a better indication today of how long he'll be out."

Our View: The Angels' infield has been hit hard with injuries this season. Aybar was performing well as he held a .270 average over 43 games, with 21 runs scored and five stolen bases. We will keep you posted on his status.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 5/20, 8:23 PM CT

Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/5, 9:22 PM CT
In the Angels' 5-6 loss to Seattle in Cactus League play on Wednesday, none of the three top candidates for the starting SS job emerged as a player to watch, according to the Associated Press. Erick Aybar went 0-for-1, Maicer Izturis went 1-for-3, and Brandon Wood did not register an at bat. This is a major concern for Angel fans, so hopes of a breakout performance loom large.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 2/23, 8:44 AM CT
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Friday that it's possible, though not ideal, that Erick Aybar and Maicer Izturis could platoon at shortstop, according to the LA Daily News. "Our decision might be not only do they play 50-50 here but they play 80-80 (games) during the season," Scioscia said. "I don't think there's anything we're ruling out at this point." Scioscia would rather have one of them claim the job and is working both out at second and third, too, so the loser of the battle would be prepared to serve as a utilityman. Brandon Wood also could play a role in determining playing time at short, so this will be an interesting battle to watch this spring.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 2/15, 9:23 AM CT
Erick Aybar, who will compete with Maicer Izturis and Brandon Wood for the starting job at short, made a whopping 17 errors in 58 games, including the playoffs, in the Dominican Republic over the winter. But manager Mike Scioscia isn't concerned. "He wasn't as consistent as we know he can be, but we have every confidence he's going to play shortstop at a very high level," Scioscia said in the LA Times. "But we obviously have to see it on the field." Scioscia can say he's not concerned, but Aybar's poor winter-league showing certainly won't put him in the good graces of his manager.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 2/14, 9:46 AM CT
When the Angels traded Orlando Cabrera to the White Sox for Jon Garland, they did so with the intention of turning their starting shortstop job over to Erick Aybar. However, the LA Times reports that Aybar raised serious concerns by making 19 errors in 35 winter-league games in the Dominican Republic, and that could open the door for Maicer Izturis to win the job. Izturis doesn't have as impressive a skill set as Aybar, but he batted .406 with runners in scoring position last season. Stay tuned.
