Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/26, 12:07 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Friday's 3-0 win at the Angels. He hit a double and two singles.

Our View: Sweeney continues to swing a hot stick, as he extended his hitting streak to six games, with 11 total hits over the span. He is also batting .372 in September.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/19, 12:23 PM CT
A's outfielder Ryan Sweeney did not play Friday and is unlikely to play Saturday due to sore knees, according to MLB.com. Sweeney is hitting .287 this season.

Our View: This injury isn't serious, but it is the result of a body wearing down at the end of a long season. Sweeney has been excellent this month, hitting .346 with 12 RBI. He should be back in a few days.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/14, 10:47 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored in tonight's 9-0 win at Texas. He hit three doubles and a single.

Our View: Sweeney remains hot in September, as he is hitting .364 over 44 at-bats, with seven doubles and nine RBI.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/28, 12:20 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney led the A's offensively in Thursday's 2-0 win at the Angels, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He hit a single, triple, and a solo homer off Ervin Santana.

Our View: Sweeney hit his second triple of 2009, with the first coming back on June 30 against Detroit. He also snapped a 14-game skid without a homer, and is batting .295 this month.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/21, 6:46 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney went 1-for-3 with a double and recorded the A's only RBI in Sunday's 4-1 loss at San Diego.

Our View: Oakland only had two hits in the game. Sweeney has an RBI in two straight games, but is not consistent enough to consider outside of deeper AL-only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/18, 5:38 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a sprained left knee, according to the Contra Costa Times. Chris Denorfia was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento as the adjoining move.

Our View: Sweeney sees regular playing time, but his fantasy stock is currently low as he is only hitting .246 with two homers over 49 games.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/17, 9:57 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney hopes to rejoin the A's on Thursday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He has not played since June 3 due to a sprained knee.

Our View: Sweeney plays every day, but he's just not a productive hitter. In 191 at bats, he has only 15 runs scored, 20 RBI, two home runs, and is hitting .246.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 6/13, 7:57 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney said he is feeling better in his recovery from a sprained left knee, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He did some running today, and believes he could come off the DL when first eligible on Thursday. Sweeney does not offer much to fantasy owners though.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/8, 7:38 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney has been placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained left knee, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Daric Barton was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take his spot on the roster.

Our View: Sweeney's ailment has not been improving, and the DL move is retroactive to June 3. Sweeney does not offer much power and was only hitting .246 prior to going down.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 6/5, 7:38 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Ryan Sweeney's MRI revealed that he has a sprained MCL in his left knee, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney is not expected to land on the DL with the injury. He had trouble staying healthy last season as well, and he shouldn't be missed in fantasy leagues as he is only hitting .246 with two homers over 49 games.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 6/5, 10:54 AM CT
Athletics.com is reporting that Ryan Sweeney is scheduled to have an MRI Friday morning after slamming his left knee into the wall on Tuesday. He has been held out of the lineup the past two games.

Our View: The 24-year-old Sweeney is not an impact fantasy player yet, so regardless of what his MRI turns up, this news should not affect your league or team in any way.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/9, 12:18 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney hit a two-run homer in the second inning of the A's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday. It was his only hit in three trips.

Our View: Sweeney did well on Friday, but he's not a strong enough fantasy performer to be considered for a starting gig in most formats.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/18, 4:54 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney was Oakland's best hitter on Saturday, but didn't do enough as they lost 4-2 in 12 innings to Toronto. Sweeney was 2-for-4 on the day.

Our View: Sweeney is off to a rough start, hitting just .250 on the season. He has only one extra-base hit in 48 at-bats so far.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/9, 12:24 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Angels.

Our View: Sweeney should fare well as Oakland's leadoff hitter this season. He possesses all the tools to indicate a successful career but he has not been able to put it all together yet. Through three games this season, he is 6-for-14 (.429).
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/3, 11:55 AM CT
The A's plan to open the season with outfielder Ryan Sweeney as their leadoff hitter, MLB.com reports. He hit .286 with a .350 OBP last year and batted .333 this spring. Orlando Cabrera, Jason Giambi, Matt Holliday, Eric Chavez, Jack Cust, Kurt Suzuki, Travis Buck, and Mark Ellis will follow in the lineup.

Our View: We knew this was a possibility, but we figured Cabrera would hit leadoff and the No. 2 spot would be a battle between Sweeney, Ellis, and Suzuki. Sweeney isn't a lock to keep that No. 1 slot, but this adds a little more zip to his potential. We expect him to hit for a good average, and he could be a good source for runs.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/31, 7:37 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney has been cleared for activity following his bout with leg tightness, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney should be set to roam center field for opening day. He won't be a viable source for power, but could hit for a solid average and is worth a look for AL-only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 3/29, 7:46 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney is dealing with leg tightness, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney will be re-evaluated today, and may miss a few games as a precaution. If healthy, Sweeney should be the A's starting center fielder for opening day. He won't offer much power, but could hit for a solid average, making him worth consideration for AL-only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/9, 12:32 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney had two more hits Sunday to extend his spring training hitting streak to eight games.

Our View: The 24-year-old Sweeney is an interesting player to keep an eye one. Heading into his second full season, he could possibly find a starting role in the Oakland outfield and turn into a fine everyday player. Sweeney would be a nice middle-round pick in AL-only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 3/7, 10:01 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney extended his hit streak to seven games with a solo shot in the second inning against San Diego on Saturday.

Our View: He's collected a hit in all seven of Oakland's spring training games thus far, going 10-for-19 with two home runs. He should play nearly every day in Oakland's outfield as is a guy to keep an eye on as a possible sleeper if he can continue to excel in spring training.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 3/4, 6:48 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney extended his hitting streak to five games with a two-run single in the first inning of Oakland's 7-2 win over the White Sox on Wednesday. He finished the day 1-for-3.

Our View: Sweeney is hitting .538 in the early going. The 24-year-old should challenge .300 this season, but his lack of power is frustrating.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 12/10, 8:24 AM CT
Manager Bob Geren noted that Ryan Sweeney could potentially bat lead-off in 2009, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He would have to battle Travis Buck for the job, based on their current roster. Sweeney stole nine bases in 2008, with a .350 OBP.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/29, 7:13 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney will undergo surgery Monday morning to reattach his left pinkie tendon to the bone, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He went 4-for-21 (.190) over the final six games, but ended the season with a favorable .286 average.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/16, 11:44 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney continued his hot September on Tuesday night by going 4-for-5 against John Lackey and the Angels. All of his hits were singles. He scored twice and had one RBI.

Our View: Sweeney is now 17-for-45 in September with six extra base hits. Of his 105 hits this season, only 23 have gone for extra bases.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 9/14, 9:36 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney had a nice outing on Sunday by going 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI for the Athletics.

Our View: Sweeney is batting .325 in September to push his overall mark up to .294 in the chase for .300. As good as he has been when healthy, Sweeney still hasn't developed the power most scouts predicted given his sweet swing and size (6'4", 215 lbs).
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/4, 11:20 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney had three hits and three RBI for the Athletics on Thursday night as he also scored two runs.

Our View: If not for multiple injuries this year, many would likely be talking about this guy. Sweeney has yet to develop the 20-HR power people have long predicted, but he is hitting .287 with seven stolen bases in just 312 AB. A big finish would likely solidify a starting role for him next year.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/28, 8:21 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney was activated from the DL on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Sweeney has been out due to a sprained right thumb, and to make room for him on the roster the A's chose to demote struggling outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to Triple-A Sacramento.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/28, 7:06 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney went 0-for-3 with two walks in a rookie-ball game in Arizona on Wednesday, which was his first game since going on the DL on August 13, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from a sprained right thumb.

Our View: There is a chance he could rejoin the club Tuesday in Kansas City. He hit for a solid average (.287) this season, but offers little else as a fantasy outfielder.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/25, 7:06 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney, who is on the DL with a sprained right thumb, will take batting practice for the first time today in Arizona, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He is making progress, but the Athletics are yet to set a timetable for his return.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/23, 7:21 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney, who is recovering from a sprained right thumb, has begun to swing the bat again (hitting off a tee), according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He is making progress, but there remains no set timetable for his return to Oakland.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/15, 8:44 PM CT
An MRI on Ryan Sweeney's right thumb revealed only a sprain, according to MLB.com. However, manager Bob Geren still isn't sure if Sweeney will be available to return when eligible on August 28. "His thumb is just sprained, and there is no significant damage," Geren said. "When his mobility comes back and he's able to play, he'll play. It is great news. Obviously, he is still very sore. When the 15 days are up, we'll see where he's at."

Our View: Sweeney has slumped recently, but overall he's had a pretty good rookie year. Hopefully he'll be back before the end of the month, but he'll definitely be back sometime in September.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/13, 7:17 PM CT
Updating a report from earlier today, the Oakland A's have officially placed Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb, according to the San Francisco Gate.

Our View: Sweeney hurt the thumb making a sliding catch on his stomach on Tuesday night; he's also been playing with a bruised right hand and a torn left pinkie tendon to go along with an ankle sprain. The rookie has been one of the A's few consistent offensive performances this year, and considering how little the team has produced in the second half, his loss certainly won't help.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/13, 7:11 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney injured his right thumb while making a backhanded catch as he skidded on his stomach in the seventh inning Tuesday, according to the SF Chronicle. He is already playing with a torn left pinkie tendon and a bruised right hand. Manager Bob Geren said, "I'm a little concerned about that. He hurt the thumb on his glove hand, but to what extent I don't know."

Our View: He will be examined by hand specialist Dr. Kendrick Lee in San Francisco this morning. Sweeney has been Oakland's best hitter for most of the season, and currently holds a .287 batting average.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/8, 8:57 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney was out of action on Friday due to a sore hand after being hit by a pitch on Thursday, according to MLB.com. "It's fortunate, for how hard he got hit and where he got hit, that he's OK," manager Bob Geren said. "It's good news in a time where we need some."

Our View: Sweeney wasn't able to take BP on Friday, but the team is positive that this setback will not require any DL time for the young outfielder. Rajai Davis played on Friday and would likely pick up a couple more starts if Sweeney is sidelined through the weekend.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/8, 7:11 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney was hit on the back of the right hand in the ninth inning Thursday, but he stayed in to run, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: X-rays taken after the game were negative, and he is expected to be fine. He hit a solo home run before getting hurt in the game, and maintains a .293 batting average.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/20, 3:11 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney went 2-for-4 and registered the A's lone RBI in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Yankees in the Bronx.

Our View: That was the fourth time he recorded multiple hits over his last six games, and he has four RBI over his last three outings. He should remain in AL-only league lineups while he is hot.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/19, 11:21 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney was back in the lineup from a dislocated finger. He went 1-for-4.

Our View: He hit third in the lineup and outfielder Matt Murton did not start. Sweeney has been a good contact hitter all season but he has come up short in the power department when healthy.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 7/14, 7:31 AM CT
The A's are hopeful that Ryan Sweeney will be ready to return to action immediately following the All-Star break, according to the SF Chronicle. He has been nursing a dislocated left pinkie finger.

Our View: Sweeney will be a welcome addition back to Oakland, as well as AL-only teams, as he holds a .301 average over 68 games, with seven stolen bases and 31 runs scored.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/11, 7:23 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney's X-rays came back negative on the left pinkie finger he dislocated Thursday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He initially appeared headed for the DL, but he is now listed as day-to-day. Travis Buck and Matt Murton could fill in while he is out of action.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/10, 6:49 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney had two hits on Thursday before he dislocated his left pinkie, an injury that forced him to be removed from the game, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Sweeney has been pretty injury prone this season, but when on the field he has been productive as evidenced by his .351 average over the past 10 games. Consider going with Rajai Davis the rest of the week, as Sweeney might not be back until after the All-Star break.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/6, 11:19 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney was held out of the lineup on Sunday with a swollen ankle.

Our View: This is truly unfortunate timing for Sweeney. He had multi-hit games in four of his last five games. He is day-to-day.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/5, 8:54 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney had two hits, scored a run, knocked one in and stole his seventh base of the season on Saturday night for the Athletics.

Our View: Sweeney battled for playing time early on, and through injury of late, and he is producing a fine season hitting .298 with those seven steals. The power still isn't there with only two longballs, but he has certainly been an asset in AL only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/3, 2:34 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney is expecting to play tonight after battling a sore left ankle, according to OaklandAthletics.com.

Our View: The 23-year-old Sweeney has played pretty well for Oakland, hitting .296 and stealing six bases despite the Athletics well-known disdain for the practice. He won't provide much power but is worth taking a peek at in AL-only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/30, 10:06 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney, who is trying to bounce back from a sprained left ankle, could return to the Athletics' lineup today, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney is a favorable option in AL-only and larger mixed leagues, as he held a .290 average over 58 games, with two homers, 25 RBI, 27 runs scored, and six stolen bases.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/29, 9:56 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney, who is nursing a sprained left ankle, is expected to be available for Monday, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View: The fantasy value of Rajai Davis will drop when Sweeney returns to action. Sweeney is a favorable option in AL-only and larger mixed leagues, as he held a .290 average over 58 games, with two homers, 25 RBI, 27 runs scored, and six stolen bases.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/26, 7:14 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney left the Athletics game on Thursday with a sprained ankle, according to The Sports Network. Sweeney injured the ankle while sliding into home plate scoring a run on a Jack Cust single.

Our View: Sweeney was replaced by Rajai Davis who could have significant AL Only league value because of his legs if he is given the chance to play. Sweeney will be reevaluated on Friday before a determination is made on his status.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 6/13, 6:28 PM CT
The Oakland Athletics activated Ryan Sweeney (toe) from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

Our View: The outfielder is expected to start in tonight's interleague game against Bay rival San Francisco.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/11, 8:43 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney is eligible to come off the DL on Friday, at which point the A's will have to decision to make with him, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The team doesn't want to designated Rajai Davis for assignment, but it is an option. They could also send Carlos Gonzalez down. Sweeney is coming back from a left toe contusion and is 9-for-25 so far on his rehab assignment.

Our View: Gonzalez is hitting .263 since his recall, but has a .316 mark over the last week. Davis is batting just .191 but has stolen 11 bases in 48 games.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/30, 5:55 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney has landed on the 15-day DL due to his left toe contusion, according to the AP.

Our View: Sweeney has been a decent option in larger AL-only leagues with a .293 average, two homers, and 22 RBI, with three stolen bases over 46 games. He will be missed by Oakland, as well as fantasy owners, while he is out of service.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/29, 2:58 PM CT
The Athletics fear that outfielder Ryan Sweeney may have a broken toe, according to CBSsports.com. Sweeney was taken for X-rays after fouling a ball off his left foot on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Sweeney remained in the game in center field, but was taken out an inning later.

Our View: Sweeney has been a decent option in larger AL-only leagues with a .293 average, two homers, and 22 RBI, with three stolen bases over 46 games. We will keep you posted on his status.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/13, 9:12 PM CT
The offense was unable to solve the arm of Cleveland starter Paul Byrd, leaving Oakland with a 4-0 loss and a lack of players to note. On the bright side, CF Ryan Sweeney went 2-for-2 at the plate, the only player to post multiple hits on a night when no player in green and gold managed to get past first base.

Our View: Sweeney is slowly but surely getting the batting average up, starting at .268 entering May and now sitting at .279.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/19, 6:40 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney had two hits and two RBI for the A's on Saturday and now has five hits, two runs and two RBI in his last two games.

Our View: Sweeney is hitting .325 and is starting to establish himself as a force on offense. Now all he has to do is to stay healthy to keep himself in the lineup to give himself a lot of value in AL Only leagues.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/15, 12:08 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney is still being bothered by his strained right quad, and could miss today's game against the White Sox, according to MLB.com. He would like to play against his former team but stated, "I think I'm the emergency, emergency, emergency option. I've been getting treatment, and I'm going to try to run on it a little today, but I think they want to just wait until we get back to warmer weather to really test it."

Our View: It is currently 53 degrees in Chicago, and he will likely sit out until the Athletics return to warmer weather.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/14, 2:30 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney missed Sunday action because of a strained right quad, but hopes to play in the two-game series against the White Sox, according to MLB.com. He noted, "I didn't pull it. I don't think the ailment is too bad."

Our View: The White Sox are hot, and his services are needed as he contributed 8 hits over 23 at-bats so far.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 4/13, 3:00 PM CT
Oakland CF Ryan Sweeney was pulled from today’s starting lineup due to a strained right quadriceps, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sweeney was injured running to first base on a double-play ball in the 3rd inning on Saturday. He completed the inning and was then replaced by Chris Denorfia. Manager Bob Geren does not believe the injury is serious and withheld Sweeney today due to chilly conditions.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/12, 7:54 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney was removed from the A's game on Saturday with what is being called a strained right quad, this according to the AP.

Our View: This doesn't appear to be a catastrophic injury, though the A's likely want to play it safe considering it's about minus 213 degrees in Cleveland tonight. If he is out for a while, look for Chris Denorfia to pick up most of the AB in the A's outfield.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/8, 9:28 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney is staking claim on the center field job for the A's. He had an RBI double as well as an RBI triple that proved to be the game-winner. Sweeney is batting a robust .438 on the year in 16 at-bats, while Chris Denorfia, who is competing with him for playing time, is hitting just .143. Sweeney should definitely receive the bulk of the playing time against righties, while Denorfia will still probably play most of the time against lefties.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 4/6, 1:53 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney has fared very well against Cliff Lee, today's starting pitcher for Cleveland, according to MLB.com. Sweeney is hitting 6-for-23 with two homers and seven RBI against Lee, and this would be a good day to pencil him into your lineup.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/3, 9:40 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney hopes to return to action by Tuesday, MLB.com reports. He bruised his left knee on Thursday.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/28, 7:08 PM CT
Ryan Sweeney bruised his left knee on Thursday when he was involved in a collision with Prince Fielder in the second inning, and he was forced to leave the game. "We'll have it looked at Friday," A's manager Bob Green said in a report on the AP. "I think he'll be OK." Sweeney is hoping to to lock up the A's fourth OF spot with a solid spring, but if he misses any time there is a chance that the team will just send him to the minors for some more seasoning.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/1, 7:03 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney probably won't join the White Sox when rosters expand on Saturday. "I don't think he's coming up because I have a lot of outfielders and that's going to make it tough for me to play this kid and play the rest of the guys," manager Ozzie Guillen said, according to the Chicago Tribune. Sweeney hit .200 in 45 at-bats with the club earlier this season.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/17, 8:46 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney has earned the right to start in left field for the White Sox, despite hitting just .231 in 12 games this year. “That kids’ not going anywhere,” manager Ken Williams told the Chicago Sun-Times. “He not only has shown that he can hit at this level but has come up with the big hit. We’ll let it ride with him, see where it takes us.” Sweeney was originally expected to be the odd man out when Jim Thome returns from the disabled list next week, but he's now expected to stay in left field at least until Scott Podsednik is ready to come off the disabled list.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/10, 9:30 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney is expected to be the odd man out when Jim Thome returns from the disabled list, but he’s impressed manager Ozzie Guillen with his recent play. “The decision will be made [on] how many days he’s going to play and how many at-bats he’s going to get,” Guillen told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Is he ready to play? He’s behind. He’s a baby… But he gives me big hits, and he’s playing outstanding outfield. He has a lot of pluses. Is he ready yet? No, not really. Maybe later on the year he is.” After delivering a key two-run hit on Wednesday, Sweeney is riding a five-game hitting streak.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 4/29, 6:55 AM CT
The White Sox plan to recall Ryan Sweeney from Triple-A Charlotte today, according to the Daily Southtown. He'll replace the injury Jim Thome on their roster. Sweeney posted a .256 batting average with two homers and six RBI in 21 Triple-A games this season.
Ryan Sweeney, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/7, 8:24 AM CT
Ryan Sweeney could start seeing more action in center field if he plays well, according to the Daily Southtown. "If (Sweeney) starts playing better, (he will start more)," Guillen said. "I'm going to take it one day at a time and I'm going to try to put the best lineup I can — especially offensively right now because our offense has really struggled. I will try to put the best offense I can in the field." Sweeney didn't help his case on Wednesday night, though, going 0-for-6 against the Red Sox.
