Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 9/4, 10:17 PM CT
Josh Willingham went 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the Nationals' 9-6 loss to the Marlins on Friday. Willingham has 22 homers and 59 RBI on the season.

Our View: Willingham has been streaky this season, and he was struggling heading into tonight's game. When he gets hot, he can hit for plenty of power, so hopefully tonight is the start of another streak.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/1, 11:58 PM CT
Josh Willingham wore the collar on Tuesday. He struck out four times in four at-bats and stranded two runners in the Nationals' 4-1 loss to the Padres.

Our View: Since a 4-for-4, five run, two-homer and six-RBI performance on August 25th, Willingham is just 1-for-22. Looks like someone cooled off.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/25, 10:59 PM CT
Josh Willingham was an absolute monster at the plate on Tuesday as the Nationals pounded the Cubs 15-6. Willingham went 4-for-4 with two homers, five runs scored, and six RBI.

Our View: Now that's a fantasy performance. Willingham has been a fantasy revelation this season, and just as he was showing signs of slowing down, he came out and had a night like this. He has cemented himself as a legitimate fantasy outfielder, and he should continue to produce as the season nears its end.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/22, 4:38 PM CT
Josh Willingham is not in the Nationals' lineup for their Saturday night game agaisnt the Brewers. He will be replaced in the lineup by Jorge Padilla in left field.

Our View: Willingham has cooled off significantly as of late, and he might be a little banged up. This is just a routine day off, and hopefully he can get back on track when he returns on Sunday.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 8/16, 3:37 PM CT
Josh Willingham had another big day on Sunday as he led the Nationals to a 5-4 victory over the Reds. Willingham went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Our View: Willingham is hitting .308 on the season, and he now has 19 homers on the season. He should be owned in all leagues at this point, and he is good enough to start in most formats.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/8, 9:41 PM CT
Josh Willingham hit a two-run homer of Dan Haren in the Nationals' 5-2 win on Saturday. His 18th of the season, it was his only hit in four trips.

Our View: Willingham has been a pleasant surprise this season, and it's shocking that his bat wasn't added by a contender at the trade deadline. He's hitting .309 with 46 RBI to go along with his 18 bombs.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 8/7, 9:27 PM CT
Josh Willingham knocked in the game winning runs in the seventh on Friday, as the Nats came back from a 5-0 deficit to edge the Diamondbacks 7-6.

Our View: Willingham has been quite the run producer of late, driving in 18 runs since July 21, and is worth a look in all formats if you need help in the outfield.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 8/2, 3:37 PM CT
Josh Willingham remained scorching hot on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with two runs, three RBI, a walk, a double and a home run, his 17th of the year and eighth over the past month.

Our View: Willingham even attempted to appease his fantasy owners with a steal, but got caught. Don't expect the batting average to be anywhere close to the .305 mark it's currently at, but his power is legit, and you have no choice but to keep playing him while he remains this zoned in at the plate.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 7/30, 12:44 PM CT
Josh Willingham is not in the Nationals' starting lineup in Milwaukee today, according to the Washington Times.

Our View: Supposedly, it is because he has a "stiff neck," and not because he is about to be traded. Time will tell.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 7/27, 10:28 PM CT
Josh Willingham went 3-for-5 with eight RBI in tonight's 14-6 win at Milwaukee. He impressively launched two grand slams and a double.

Our View: Willingham has three homers over his last two games, and 16 for 2009. He has raised his trade value heading into the July 31 deadline.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 7/27, 11:19 AM CT
The San Francisco Giants were in Washington D.C. over the weekend scouting Nats trade bait Josh Willingham and Nick Johnson, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: Willingham likely impressed them, hitting a homer and driving in two runs. On the season, he is batting .291 with 14 home runs and 31 RBI, numbers that would make him one of the Giants most accomplished hitters. The Gigantes have an abundance of young pitching prospects, and could likely easily pry Willingham or Johnson away from the Nats for one of them.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 7/26, 4:44 PM CT
Josh Willingham's 14th home run of the season helped the Nats edge the Padres 3-2 in extra innings on Sunday.

Our View: Willingham has been producing at the right time for the Nationals, as the team is widely believed to be showcasing him for potential trading partners. Even if he stays in Washington, however, he's a good fantasy bet for the rest of 2009.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 7/24, 7:54 PM CT
The Tigers are believed to be interested in Josh Willingham, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: Willingham is hitting .294 with 13 home runs and 29 RBI with the Nationals, and the Tigers would like to use him as a DH for their stretch run of the season. The Tigers also like Adam Dunn, and Washington has reportedly been scouting the Tigers' minor league prospects. They would likely ask for young pitching to let either outfielder go.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/22, 8:40 PM CT
Trade bait Josh Willingham went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Wednesday, helping the Nationals take two out of three from the Mets.

Our View: Willingham is now batting .297 on the season, and could provide a huge boost to many different teams if traded before July 31.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/21, 4:51 PM CT
The Phillies are the latest team to express interest in Nationals outfielder Josh Willingham, according to Scout.com.

Our View: The Phillies are looking for a right-handed bat to bring off their bench. Willingham is having a solid 2009 season, batting .284 with 12 home runs and 26 RBI, and would be a huge addition to the bench of a surging Phillies team. A trade to the Phils might not diminish his NL-only value that much either (even though he'd be coming off the bench) because Citizens Bank Park is such a hitter friendly stadium.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 6/29, 11:33 AM CT
FoxSports.com reports that the Reds have interest in Josh Willingham.

Our View: The Reds' left-heavy lineup desperately needs a right handed bat, and Willingham is batting .278 in 144 at-bats this season. The 30-year-old would likely command less in return than other high profile righties, like Matt Holliday, and be a smart move for the Reds could they pull it off.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/24, 9:42 PM CT
Josh Willingham was productive in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Red Sox at Nationals Park, as he went 1-for-3 with a single and two RBI.

Our View: Willingham is hitting .222 with no homers and three RBI over 18 at-bats so far in June. He has been dealing with the death of his younger brother.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/20, 2:23 PM CT
As expected the Nationals activated outfielder Josh Willingham from the bereavement list on Saturday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: No word on whether Willingham will be up to playing in tonight's contest, as he's likely still rattled from the tragic death of his younger brother. Corey Patterson was optioned to Triple-A to make room for Willingham.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/17, 10:54 AM CT
Josh Willingham is expected to return from the bereavement list this Saturday when the Nationals play the Blue Jays according to MASN.com.

Our View: Willingham is taking the full seven days allowed by the bereavement list following the tragic death of his brother last weekend. Our thoughts are still with him and his family.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/13, 3:53 PM CT
Josh Willingham has been placed on the bereavement list, according to the Associated Press. He is dealing with a death in his family. Corey Patterson was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse as the adjoining move.

Our View: His younger brother was killed in a car collision Friday. It is uncertain when the outfielder will be ready to return to Washington.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/9, 9:57 AM CT
The Washington Post is reporting that the Nationals believe Josh Willingham will be available to return to the lineup on Tuesday. Willingham has missed six consecutive games with a viral infection.

Our View: The team had a day off yesterday, which probably went a long way in allowing Willingham to recover. The Nats have not said for sure if Willingham will play tonight, but it looks promising at this point. We will keep you updated, but plan on him being available starting this evening.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/6, 2:13 PM CT
According to the Washington Times, Josh Willingham could return to action this weekend after missing time due to a stomach virus.

Our View: Willingham was only expected to miss one game, but the virus just wouldn't seem to go away. Looks like he's better now and once he gets the official word he should be fine to put back into lineups.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 6/4, 5:20 PM CT
Nationals.com is reporting that the virus that has been keeping Josh Willingham out of the lineup is still bothering him and it is unknown when he will return.

Our View: Willingham got sick at an inopportune time as he had belted eight home runs in his last 24 games. When he does come back, expect him to be reinserted in the Nats starting lineup.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/2, 4:43 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that OF Josh Willingham will not be in the lineup tonight due to a stomach virus.

Our View: Elijah Dukes, activated from the 15-day DL today, will take his place.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 5/31, 4:44 PM CT
Josh Willingham was the sole provider of Washington's offense on Sunday, belting two solo home runs in a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia.

Our View: Willingham has been hot of late and now has nine home runs in 111 at-bats this season. He's a fine option for the time being in deeper leagues but should struggle to maintain everyday playing time once Elijah Dukes (hamstring) returns from the DL.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 4/23, 11:14 AM CT
Josh Willingham is considered day-to-day after being struck on his calf by a foul ball Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He sustained the injury while swinging in the on-deck circle with Elijah Dukes at the plate.

Our View: He has a bruise, but did not need X-rays. Washington does not play again until Friday at New York.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/8, 1:13 PM CT
Josh Willingham discussed his role as a backup outfielder with Nationals' GM Mike Rizzo, according to MLB.com. Willingham said, "I can't tell you what he told me, but we were honest with each other. We got everything out on the table. I know where Rizzo stands, he knows where I stand. I wanted to hear from him and he wanted to hear from me. The meeting was about the whole situation, how he feels about me as a player, all that stuff. That is what the meeting was about. It was good. We will go from there."

Our View: Willingham is displeased to be riding the pine as a reserve, but Rizzo assured him that the Nationals respect him as a player. Willingham has good reason to be upset, as he led the club in spring training with 13 RBI.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/4, 11:19 PM CT
Josh Willingham hit a grand slam and accounted for all five RBI in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Orioles. It was his fourth home run of the spring.

Our View: Willingham is not currently set for regular duty, but he will work his way into the lineup on occasion. He knows how to get on base and it's conceivable that he gets that everyday job at some point this season. However, it may take an injury for that opportunity to present itself.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 3/19, 2:42 PM CT
Josh Willingham went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Baltimore. That marks his first homer of the spring.

Our View: Willingham needed a solid outing as he has not been hitting well. He is in a battle for a starting spot in the outfield with Adam Dunn, Elijah Dukes and Lastings Milledge.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/11, 8:15 PM CT
MLB.com reports that despite good defense and a nice bat, outfielder Josh Willingham may be the odd man out in the race for the Nationals starting outfield positions.

Our View: It appears that the Nationals may go with Elijah Dukes, Lastings Milledge, and Adam Dunn as their three starters. Willingham was acquired in the offseason from the Marlins. He has solid power and a good batting eye, but it appears that something will have to break his way to break into the starting lineup this season.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 3/10, 12:34 AM CT
Josh Willingham only went 1-for-4 on Monday with a strikeout.

Our View: Willingham is only batting .125 so far this spring. He'll need to show lots of improvement to earn playing time in a crowded Washington outfield.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 2/18, 12:04 PM CT
The Nationals have avoided salary arbitration with Josh Willingham by inking the outfielder to a one-year deal worth $2.95MM, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. That figure is just under the mid-point of the two filings.

Our View: There is no denying Willingham is a good hitter, but he will now be playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Nationals Park, and remains a risk due to his history of back problems.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 11/10, 7:14 PM CT
Josh Willingham was dealt to the Nationals on Monday, according to FoxSports. Scott Olsen was also included in the trade. In return, the Marlins will receive second baseman Emilio Bonifacio and a package of minor leaguers, including Class A right-hander P.J. Dean and outfielder Jake Smolinski.

Our View: Willingham will likely be a starter for the Nats. He hit .254 with 82 strikeouts in 351 at-bats.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/23, 9:39 PM CT
Josh Willingham hit his 13th home run of the season in the Marlins' 9-4 loss to Washington. He went 1-for-4 on the night.

Our View: Willingham has hit a home run two nights in a row, and is ending his season with a bang - the same way he started it.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 9/22, 3:36 PM CT
Josh Willingham went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Reds. His other hit was good for a double.

Our View: Willingham snapped a 12-game drought without a homer, and has registered two hits in back-to-back games. He looks to close out the final week of the regular season on a high note.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 8/28, 7:22 PM CT
Josh Willingham was benched on Thursday night as Jeremy Hermida was reinserted into the starting lineup, according to the Palm Beach Post. As a result, Luis Gonzalez started his fifth straight game in the outfield.

Our View: Willingham is hitting just .241 with only a single home run in his last 33 games as his back injury has limited his performance at the plate substantially.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 8/11, 10:15 AM CT
Josh Willingham was benched for Sunday's game because of a dismal 2-for-20 road trip, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View: Luis Gonzalez started in left field and went 3-for-4 with a home run. Willingham has not found his power stroke this season, as he only has eight homers over 226 at-bats.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/2, 10:56 PM CT
Josh Willingham went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Rockies at home. He hit a double and a triple, and scored two runs.

Our View: Willingham is hitting .473 (9-for-19) over his last six games. He has also registered an RBI in three straight contests, and should remain active in fantasy lineups while he is hot.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 8/1, 9:44 PM CT
Josh Willingham had a hit and an RBI out of the cleanup spot for the Marlins on Friday night.

Our View: Well, at least he can relax now as it appears that he will be a Marlin for the rest of the year. Willingham is hitting .276 though his total of 29 RBI in 199 AB isn't quite the pace that the club, or his owners, had hoped for.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 7/20, 12:59 PM CT
Josh Willingham was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a sore wrist, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: He told Fredi Gonzalez he was available to play, and the skipper just wanted him to take a break, so fantasy owners shouldn't be concerned with his ailment. Luis Gonzalez got the start in left field.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 6/30, 10:43 PM CT
Josh Willingham hit a game-winning home run in the 10th inning after the Marlins' Hanley Ramirez's tying homer in the ninth forced extra innings and Florida rallied to beat the Washington Nationals 6-5 on Monday night. It was the third career walkoff homer for Willingham, whose shot off Jon Rauch (4-2) was his second of the game.

Our View: It is only Willingham's second game back after missing nearly two months to injury. The home run was Willingham's seventh of the year.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/24, 11:07 PM CT
Josh Willingham went 1-for-5 with a spectacular diving catch in his return from the DL. He had missed the previous eight weeks with a back injury.

Our View: He batted cleanup and started in left. The slugger was hitting .341 with six home runs in 25 games before going down.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/24, 4:54 PM CT
Josh Willingham is eager to get back in the lineup tonight after a lengthy stint on the DL with a back injury, according to the AP. "It's been a long process," Willingham said. "Been frustrating, but I'm back in the lineup and hopefully I can do something to help the team win."

Our View: Manager Fredi Gonzalez noted that Luis Gonzalez will probably play left on Thursday, which is a day game after a night game, but after that Josh should be back in the lineup to stay.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/24, 12:10 PM CT
As expected, Josh Willingham has been activated from the DL, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hopefully his lower back soreness will not return. Willingham was hitting .341 with six homers and 16 RBI over 25 games prior to landing on the DL in late April, and should be penciled back into your lineups.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/21, 8:12 AM CT
The Marlins are set to activate star outfielder Josh Willingham from the DL on Tuesday, according to the Miami Herald. He is recovering from lower back soreness. Manager Fredi Gonzalez will work him back into the grind slowly, and said, "I'm not going to run him out there the first seven days in a row."

Our View: Willingham was hitting .341 with six homers and 16 RBI over 25 games prior to landing on the DL in late April, and should be penciled back into your lineups when he returns to the diamond.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 6/19, 6:01 PM CT
Josh Willingham's return to active duty continues to draw attention. The Florida outfielder is currently on a rehab assignment in Double-A and is near a return from a back injury that's kept him out of the Marlins lineup since May 2nd. Willingham hit .341 with a 406 OBP and had six home runs and 16 RBI in 91 at-bats before being he was disabled. There is a chance he could return to the 25-man roster tomorrow, but the more feasible ETA is next week.

Our View: In shallow mixed formats Willingham might be available. If so, make room on the bench for the slugger and play the "wait and see" game.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/18, 8:52 AM CT
Josh Willingham went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI for Double-A Carolina on Tuesday. He is expected to rejoin the Marlins during their next homestand, which begins on Monday, the Miami Herald reports. Willingham is on the DL due to a sore lower back.

Our View: Willingham was swinging well prior to his injury, and we hope he can find his stroke during his rehab period. He should end up with seven-to-nine games of rehab work before coming back up.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/14, 6:04 PM CT
The Florida Marlins report outfielder Josh Willingham is unlikely to rejoin the team during their current nine-game road trip, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Willingham has progressed well in his minor-league rehab stint, recovering from a lower back strain as well as a herniated disc. Willingham has been slowed by back problems in the past, and he missed some of last September with a herniated disc. This time around, the Marlins are appearing to err on the side of caution.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/14, 9:06 AM CT
Josh Willingham went 0-for-2 in his first minor league rehab start on Friday night, the Miami Herald notes. The outfielder has been out since late April due to a sore lower back.

Our View: Willingham remains at least a week away, but fantasy owners can tentatively plan to use him come the week of June 23-29. We'll have more updates before that time.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 6/12, 10:39 AM CT
The Marlins project to get outfielder Josh Willingham back in about 10-14 days, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first rehab start, and has been on the DL since May 2 due to a lower back strain. He held a .341 average over 25 games, with six homers this season.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/11, 2:40 PM CT
The Palm Beach Post reports that Josh Willingham went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in his first rehab start.

Our View: It appears Willingham has some adjusting to do after missing more than a month with a sore lower back.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/10, 6:38 PM CT
Florida outfielder Josh Willingham is ready to beging a rehab assignment in the minors, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Willingham has been nursing a strained lower back but was running bases with the team in pregame warmups as well as fielding fly balls. On Wednesday, Willingham is scheduled to play in an extended spring game at the Marlins' complex in Jupiter, Fla. On the disabled list since May 2, retroactive to April 28, the 29-year-old left fielder could be back with the big league club in about two weeks.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 6/9, 6:28 PM CT
Josh Willingham ran the bases, fielded fly balls and took live batting practice Monday, according to MLB.com. The outfielder is progressing well from his back injury and could possibly start a rehab assignment by the end of the week.

Our View: Since he's been out so long, Willingham will need multiple rehab games to get ready. He set June 24 as a possible return date but admitted that that was just a guess. However, it sounds like he will definitely be back by the end of the month if he doesn't have any setbacks.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 6/8, 1:00 PM CT
Josh Willingham took batting practice on the field before Sunday's game, the first time he's been able to do so since injuring his back in April. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Willingham could be taking part in some rehab games pretty soon if all goes well. "Sometimes these things, he feels good one day, but then you got to see how he feels [on Monday]," Gonzalez said on MLB.com. "If he feels good again, maybe take another BP. If everything goes well, I think by the middle of the week he should be playing some games in the minor leagues -- whether it's Gulf Coast or some place else."

Our View: Gonzalez has previously established the All-Star break as a legitimate target for a return for Willingham, but it sounds like it could be a little sooner than that. We'll keep you posted on his recovery.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/6, 9:15 PM CT
Josh Willingham dressed out during batting practice Friday, stretched out with the team and also shagged some fly balls, but that doesn't mean he's close to returning to the lineup, manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com. "It'll be a while, because he hasn't played in over a month," Gonzalez said. "He's got to get his legs in shape -- he's got to get his arm in shape. He hasn't picked up a ball. You hate to run him back in there, then his legs go bad." Willingham is coming back from lower back soreness.

Our View: The Marlins have yet to set a timetable for Willingham's return, but he should be back around the All-Star break.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 6/5, 2:58 PM CT
The Marlins have reeled in high school catcher Kyle Skipworth with the sixth overall pick in Thursday's draft, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View: The left-handed catcher from Riverside, California has been compared to Joe Mauer. He hits for power to all fields. His defense needs some polishing, but scouts feel he will move quickly through the minor league system.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 7:17 PM CT
Florida outfielder Josh Willingham took 25 pain-free swings off a tee in the batting cage today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is his second consecutive day swinging the stick and he reports no pain or discomfort. The team plans to have Willingham take 25 more swings tomorrow, this time against soft tosses. Willingham has been on the DL since May 2nd with a lower back strain and a herniated disc. If things go well tomorrow, the Marlins will repeat that exercise on Thursday, but plans after that have not revealed.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 6/2, 9:39 AM CT
He plans to test his ailing back by taking a few swings inside the batting cage within a day or two, but Josh Willingham isn't overly optimistic, according to the Miami Herald. Willingham said, "I'm not getting up about it, and I'm not getting down about it. If I can swing it well, I'll move forward."

Our View: He has been out since April 27 due to lower back soreness, and the pain is sourced from a herniated disk, which eventually might require surgery.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 5/29, 10:22 AM CT
Josh Willingham is still a long way from returning to the Marlins, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Willingham is expected to take batting practice for the first time this weekend in Philadelphia. He has been on the DL since May 2 due to lower back soreness.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/28, 7:03 PM CT
Florida outfielder Josh Willingham is traveling with the team as he continues to nurse a herniated disc and a lower-back sprain, and the Marlins report he could be swinging a bat as early as this week, a task he has not performed in weeks, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Willingham is in the midst of several physical tests as doctors continue to evaluate his progress. Once those medical results reach a level of comfort, Willingham will be cleared for small portions of baseball activity. The team still plans to send the outfielder to the minors for a rehab stint when he is ready for full-game action, but this will get him progressing towards his goals.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 5/23, 6:11 PM CT
Josh Willingham remains 2-3 weeks away from resuming baseball activities, according to MLB.com. He's currently performance range-of-motion exercises for his ailing back.

Our View: We aren't likely to see Willingham until at least late June, and it's certainly possible he could be out until after the break.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/20, 6:56 PM CT
Florida outfielder Josh Willingham seems likely to miss another month, and possibly more, as he continues to struggle with a herniated disc, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: Willingham has been out since April 27th in what seems to be a recurring problem, having struggled with back issues last season. Willingham underwent an MRI in Los Angeles on Monday and was examined by orthopedist Dr. Robert Watkins. Willingham has been told to spend 10 day to three weeks without any baseball activity. That means we are unlikely to see Willingham in action until mid-June.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 5/16, 10:26 AM CT
Josh Willingham could seek a second opinion on his ailing back, according to the Miami Herald. Willingham said he aggravated the injury while taking batting practice Monday. "I'm going to maybe see a doctor just to get another opinion," Willingham said. "But I really think I just did too much on it too early because I really wanted to get back on the field."

Our View: The outfielder said later this month or early June would be a "best-case scenario" for his return. Luis Gonzalez will continue to fill in in left while Josh is out.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 5/15, 6:49 PM CT
Josh Willingham's recent setback with his back will likely keep him out of the lineup for at least a couple of weeks, according to MLB.com. Willingham is now dealing with a strained lower back in addition to a herniated disk. "In my opinion, I might have been a little overanxious," he said.
