Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/11, 5:30 PM CT
Joey Votto hit his first homer of the spring in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Brewers.

Our View: The solo shot was actually Votto's first hit entirely this spring. Don't let that scare you though, he's among the game's elite first baseman, a true rising star and the most dangerous hitter in the Reds lineup. Expect big things this year.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 10/3, 9:18 PM CT
Joey Votto sparked the Reds to an 8-4 win over the Pirates on Saturday night. The first baseman went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and a pair of walks.

Our View: Votto is hitting .318 and now has 25 homers and 84 RBI despite missing significant time with anxiety issues this season. He appears to be over his phobia and Saturday's homer gave a new career high.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/25, 10:49 PM CT
Joey Votto helped lead the Reds in tonight's 10-4 win at Houston, as he went 2-for-4 with four RBI. He hit a double and a solo homer off Brian Moehler.

Our View: The rising star clubbed his 23rd homer of 2009. He needs one more to tie his personal season-high of 24 set last season. He also extended his hitting streak to seven games tonight, and is batting .368 in September.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 9/24, 2:28 PM CT
Joey Votto's two-run double in the third inning would prove to be the difference on Thursday, as the Reds beat the Pirates 4-1 in Pittsburgh.

Our View: Votto now has RBI in five of his past six games after enduring a six-game RBI drought.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/23, 9:22 PM CT
Joey Votto went 4-for-5 with three runs scored on Wednesday, pacing the Reds to a 12-2 rout over the Pirates on the road.

Our View: The four-hit game was his first since July 2. He now has seven hits in the Reds' past two contests.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/18, 9:39 PM CT
Joey Votto was productive in tonight's 4-3 loss to Florida at the Great American Ballpark, as he went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI.

Our View: Votto recorded two hits in five of his last nine games, and raised his team-leading batting average to .303.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 9/5, 9:13 PM CT
Joey Votto went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer off Jair Jurrjens in tonight's 3-1 win at Atlanta.

Our View: Votto snapped a seven-game skid without a homer, but still leads the Reds with 21. He continues to pace the club with a .304 batting average as well.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/1, 2:23 PM CT
Joey Votto is not in the Reds' stareting lineup Tuesday. Votto is currently in an 0-for-15 slump, and he will be replaced by Kevin Barker at first base.

Our View: Votto has been struggling as of late, so the team thought tonight would be a good time to give him a day off. Maybe the rest will help him break out, as fantasy owners will need him to be productive over the next few weeks.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/27, 4:23 PM CT
Joey Votto went 3-for-4 with his 20th home run on Thursday, helping the Reds to an 8-5 victory and three-game sweep in Milwaukee.

Our View: The home run was his second in three games, and after nose-diving for much of August, the young first baseman looks to be getting hot again.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/20, 10:06 AM CT
According to Mark Sheldon on Twitter, Joey Votto is indeed back in the lineup for the Reds on Thursday.

Our View: Looks like the blurred vision was a one time thing. This is good news for the Reds and Votto owners alike. Feel free to get him back in your lineup.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/20, 9:13 AM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Joey Votto (blurry vision) may be able to play in Thursday's game.

Our View: The good news is that the blurred vision (Votto's reason for coming out of Wednesday's game) is not related to his stress disorder that kept him on the shelf earlier this season. It doesn't sound serious at this point, but anything with a ball player's eye is worth dealing with carefully. We'll update his status before the game.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/19, 8:23 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Reds' first baseman Joey Votto has been diagnosed with blurred vision, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Mark Sheldon. He will be evaluated again on Thursday morning.

Our View: Votto has dealt with blurred vision before this season, but we will know more about the condition when he is evaluated tomorrow. Hopefully he will be able to return to the lineup soon, but we will let you know.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/19, 7:38 PM CT
Joey Votto was removed from Wednesday night's game against the Giants after the top of the first inning, according to the Associated Press. There has been no announcement of the reasoning for his removal.

Our View: There didn't appear to be any kind of injury, so you have to wonder if Votto's anxiety disorder is acting up again. We will keep you updated on his condition when the information is released, so stay tuned.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/18, 10:57 PM CT
Joey Votto had just one hit in five at-bats in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Giants, but the one he got a hold of left the yard.

Our View: Votto now has 18 jacks on the season, but has registered just two this month. He hasn't seemed completely right since being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in late May.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/15, 10:41 PM CT
Joey Votto was productive in tonight's 10-6 loss to Washington at the Great American Ballpark, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: This was an encouraging outing for Votto, as he was batting .174 in August heading into tonight's game. He still holds a solid .317 average for the season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/26, 5:43 PM CT
Joey Votto clubbed his 15th homer of the season on Sunday, but the Reds couldn't get anything going in a 5-2 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Our View: The .351 hitting Votto has been simply magnificent in 2009, and could contend for the National League batting title if he stays healthy for the rest of the season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/25, 3:27 PM CT
Joey Votto led the way once again for the Reds on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as his team lost to the Cubs 5-3. Votto went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View: Votto has been about the only source of offense for the Reds as of late, and they have come to find out he can't do it all himself. With Jay Bruce injured, Votto needs more help from guys like Brandon Phillips and Edwin Encarnacion if the team is going to stay competitive. Votto is still a rock solid fantasy player, but he could be even better if his team could help him out.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/23, 12:00 AM CT
Joey Votto went 3-for-4 in a losing effort on Wednesday night, as the Reds lost 6-2 in Los Angeles.

Our View: More great hitting from one of the game's best young players. Votto looked mostly like a mashing power hitter in 2008, but now looks like he could contend for batting titles as well.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/22, 12:25 AM CT
Joey Votto hit a ninth inning home run on Tuesday, but it was irrelevant as the Reds were losing 12-2 at the time. The Dodgers went on to win 12-3.

Our View: Votto has kept producing as the Reds have swooned, but no one else has. He has great numbers to this point, but could see his production dwindle if the Reds keep losing at the rate they have been lately.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/16, 10:00 PM CT
Joey Votto was productive in tonight's 9-6 loss to the Brewers at the Great American Ballpark, as he went 2-for-5 with two RBI. He hit a single and a two-run homer off Braden Looper.

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/11, 11:06 PM CT
Joey Votto went 1-for-4 with a single in tonight's 4-0 loss at the Mets.

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/10, 8:49 PM CT
Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a solo homer off Fernando Nieve in tonight's 3-0 win at the Mets. His other knock was a single.

Our View: Votto notched his second homer of July, and his 11th of the season. He extended his hitting streak to 13 games as well.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/4, 4:40 PM CT
Joey Votto stayed hot on the Fourth of July, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run as the Reds beat St. Louis 5-2.

Our View: Votto hasn't missed a beat since being activated from the disabled list on June 23, and is quickly emerging as a top flight fantasy first baseman. If you can't start him at first, he needs to at least be your utilityman.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/2, 3:12 PM CT
Joey Votto was 4-for-6 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning on Thursday to give the Reds a 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Our View: Votto now has his average up to .366 on the season, and he has hit very well since coming off the disabled list with a combination of an inner ear infection and an anxiety disorder. He has 15 hits in nine games since his return.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/1, 9:20 PM CT
Joey Votto singled in the game winning run in the sixth inning on Wednesday as the Reds beat Arizona 1-0 in Cincinnati.

Our View: Votto hasn't missed a beat since returning from the disabled list and is safe to start every night from here on out.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/25, 9:22 PM CT
Joey Votto had his first big game since returning from the disabled list earlier this week, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run as the Reds beat Toronto 7-5.

Our View: This is wonderful news for owners of the exceptional young lefty hitting first baseman. Consider him officially safe to place in your starting lineup every day now.

Updating a previous report, Reds' first baseman Joey Votto is in the lineup for Tuesday night's game in Toronto, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Votto will bat third and play first base for Cincinnati.

Our View: We knew Votto was activated, and now we know he is playing. Fantasy owners should feel free to get him in the lineup tonight if possible, as he remains a strong play at this point.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/23, 11:14 AM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Dayton Daily News is reporting that Reds' slugger Joey Votto accompanied the team to Toronto on Monday and is likely to be activated in time to play in Tuesday night's interleague matchup against the Blue Jays. Votto has been on the DL while dealing with stree-related issues.

Our View: No word yet on whether or not he will be in the lineup, but you have to think that if he is with the team he will play. Factor in that he is back in his homeland (Canada), and it makes sense that he would want to get back in the lineup tonight. Votto owners should be prepared to play him tonight, but check back for confirmation that he is in the lineup.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Joey Votto took batting practice once again on Wednesday and he is departing tonight to begin a minor league rehab assignment. He's expected to rejoining the team on June 30, but he could return sooner.

Our View: Votto has not played in a month and was placed on the DL with stress-related issues. The symptoms began as the flu, developed into dizziness and were later attributed to an inner-ear infection. Flying was an issue for him less than a month ago, and we're not certain when the last time he flew was. Hopefully all of this is behind him and he can resume smashing as the No. 3 hitter in the Reds lineup once again.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/16, 4:26 PM CT

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/9, 5:25 PM CT
Manager Dusty Baker still has no set timetable for Joey Votto's return to the diamond, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He is dealing with stress-related issues.

Our View: Votto isn't speaking to the media, but it sounds as if he may be out for awhile. This whole situation is very mysterious, but Votto owners should be prepared to be without him for a few more weeks.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 5/30, 2:37 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Joey Votto has been placed on the 15-day DL due to stress related issues. Infielder Wilkin Castillo was called up to take his roster spot. The first baseman has been in and out of the lineup over the past two weeks because of dizziness.

Our View: If nothing else, this at least lets us know for certain he will not be in the lineup over the next two weeks. He has been a day to day case for at least two weeks. This is unfortunate though as he has been the Reds best hitter with 33 RBI in 38 games. Through his first 126 at bats, the 25-year-old is hitting an impressive .357/.464/.627.

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 5/29, 11:03 PM CT

Our View: Votto has been among the most frustrating of players to own over the past couple of weeks. He has missed the majority of the Reds games, but chipped in two home runs in Saturday's start. He has not been in the starting lineup since, but should be back sooner rather than later.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/25, 11:19 AM CT

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/19, 6:27 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, first baseman Joey Votto will be out of the lineup for at least another few days as he has some further testing done to deal with his dizziness spells.

Our View: The raking first baseman and most important piece of the Reds' lineup will have to wait a while longer. Doctors have yet to figure out what's causing his dizzy spells that came on after a severe bout with the flu. He likely wouldn't play until this weekend at the earliest. Keep him on your bench until further notice.

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/12, 11:57 PM CT
Joey Votto left Tuesday's game with an undisclosed injury in the fourth inning.

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 5/10, 5:33 PM CT
Joey Votto came off the bench and hit a pinch-hit a solo home run in Sunday's 8-7 loss in 10 innings to the Cardinals. He also drew two walks in the game.

Our View: Votto had missed the previous three games due to the flu, but judging by today's performance, it appears that he should be feeling well enough to get back in the starting lineup. Joey Votto was 1-for-1 with two walks, a double, a run, a steal, and an RBI in Sunday's 5-4 loss to Toronto.

Our View: Votto is hitting an impressive 8-for-17 with a couple of home runs this spring. He will likely hit No. 3 in front of Brandon Phillips this season, and he should be among the better producers in the second tier of first basemen. His power will not blow you away, but it should be more than adequate seeing how he'll play 81 home games at the Gap.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 2/28, 10:21 PM CT
Joey Votto went 2-for-3 on Saturday with a pair of singles.

Our View: Votto was a bit of a surprise power-wise in 2008, cranking 24 home runs in just 526 at-bats. He'll certainly be drafted this year.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 2/4, 5:05 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Joey Votto will see some time at DH and possibly in the outfield for Team Canada in the WBC. Justin Morneau will man first base most of the time.

Our View: Votto will only be eligible at first base for fantasy purposes this season. He had a strong season last year with the Reds, but it should only get better next season. His numbers improved after the Reds dealt Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn away last season. Votto will be in the heart of the lineup all season in 2009, while he spent much of 2008 hitting in the No. 6 spot.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 1/6, 12:57 PM CT

Our View: The NL Rookie of the Year was born in Toronto.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 10/6, 3:41 PM CT
Joey Votto has been named the NL Rookie of the Month for September, according to the AP. Votto batted .309 (29-for-94) with nine home runs and 20 RBI over 25 games in the month.

Our View: Votto hit .297 over 151 games, with 24 homers and 84 RBI, and has a bright future ahead of him in Cincinnati. He should challenge .300 and 30 homers in 2009, potentially making him a solid starting first baseman for mixed-leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 9/28, 5:08 PM CT
Joey Votto finished off a strong rookie campaign with his 24th home run of the season in the Reds 11-4 loss to the Cardinals. He was 2-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk.

Our View: Votto showed very well at the plate this season and should improve in 2009. Expect his power numbers (24 home runs and 84 RBI) to rise in his sophomre season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 9/22, 3:19 PM CT
Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Monday's 7-5 win over the Marlins. He hit a double and a solo home run.

Our View: The 25-year-old infielder raised his average to .288, to go along with 30 doubles, two triples, 22 homers, and 79 RBI. He has registered multiple hits in four of his last five games, and shall remain active in fantasy lineups through the final week of the season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 9/21, 3:36 PM CT
Joey Votto went 0-for-4, left three men on base and struck out once, in what was a typical day for the Reds in their 8-1 beating by the Brewers.

Our View: Votto saw his streak of two-hit games end at three, and he has stumbled a bit so far at the end of the season, hitting under .250.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 9/20, 6:34 PM CT
Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View: Votto is hot as he registered two hits in three straight games, with five RBI over his last two. Keep him active in lineups heading into the final week of the season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/19, 9:24 PM CT
Joey Votto hit two of Cincinnati's seven home runs off of the Brewers on Friday night. The home runs came in his first two at bats and he finished the night with four RBI.

Our View: After a hot start to the month, Votto had cooled down somewhat in the power department. The two home runs tonight give him 21 for the season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 9/13, 11:36 PM CT
Joey Votto went 1-for-5 with an RBI double in Saturday's 3-2 win over Arizona.

Our View: Votto ended an 0-for-7 skid over his previous two games, and ended a three-game slump without an RBI. He has four homers over 11 games in September, and should remain active in fantasy lineups in the closing weeks of the season.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/9, 12:20 AM CT
Joey Votto hit his 19th home run of the season in Monday night's victory over the Brewers.

Our View: Votto has come up huge since being promoted to the cleanup spot. He now has four home runs in the past six games. Get him in your lineup.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/5, 9:50 PM CT
Joey Votto hit his 18th home run of the season on Friday night. He added a double, two runs and three RBI to his line by the end of the 10-2 whupping of the Cubs.

Our View: Votto is the real deal. After Adam Dunn was traded, he took over the cleanup spot in the order and has hit .333 while there. Throw in his small ballpark and the fact that he will be hitting between Brandon Phillips nad Jay Bruce for years, and it becomes clear that Votto holds substantial keeper league value.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 9/4, 3:30 PM CT
The Pirates jumped out to an early 5-0 lead against the Reds, but thanks to Joey Votto, the Reds did not go away easily. Votto hit his 17th home run early in the game and also drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

Our View: Votto's average is getting closer and closer to the .300 mark and his power numbers continue to grow. Votto will be a solid contributor for any fantasy team.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/3, 9:44 PM CT
Joey Votto was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run in Wednesday's loss to Pittsburgh.

Our View: Votto seems to be making the most of his opportunity to hit clean-up for the Reds. Votto should be a solid contributor to all categories except stolen bases.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/31, 2:49 PM CT
Joey Votto had a big day in the Reds win over San Francisco, reaching base five times as he went 4-for-4 with a walk and four RBI.

Our View: Votto ended August hitting .382, but with just two home runs. He's been a solid player all year for fantasy owners, but no doubt they would like to see a few more home runs from him. He has just three since June 21.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/25, 10:04 AM CT
Joey Votto is hot as he racked up three hits in three of his last four games, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: He has registered three hits in a game 16 times this season, giving him the lead among rookies. Geovany Soto of the Cubs ranks second in three-hit outings with eight. Votto should remain solid down the stretch as a fantasy first baseman.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/22, 11:32 PM CT
Joey Votto helped lead the Reds to a 8-5 win over the Rockies by going 3-for-4 with two RBI while scoring one run.

Our View: Votto continued his solid season for fantasy owners, and he is now six for his last eight in his last two games.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/19, 7:10 PM CT
Joey Votto will start on Tuesday for the first time since returning to the Reds from the bereavement list following the sudden passing of his father, according to MLB.com. "Obviously, the last week was hard," Votto said at his locker on Tuesday before the Reds played the Cubs. "Being around the guys is a real good distraction. It's helped take my mind off everything. I love what I do. It's a good opportunity to do what my dad would have wanted me to do."

Our View: After Votto's bereavement reached the seven-day limit, he came back from Canada and rejoined the roster by rule. But he was given more time to ease his way back by manager Dusty Baker. In both games on Saturday and Sunday against the Cardinals, Votto appeared once as a pinch-hitter. He notched an RBI single on Sunday. The 25-year-old entered Tuesday batting .281 with 14 home runs and 54 RBIs. He was hitting .375 (12-for-40) over his previous 12 games, and was slotted in the fifth spot in the lineup against the Reds on Tuesday.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/18, 7:26 AM CT
Joey Votto was out of the starting lineup again Sunday, but will probably return Tuesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He spent time on the bereavement list and manager Dusty Baker said, "He hasn't swung the bat in a week. He worked out a couple times. I'll give him another day, he'll come in early tomorrow and hit, and we'll get him ready for Chicago. It ain't that easy to just come in and hit."

Our View: Votto should be safe to pencil into fantasy lineups for the week.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/16, 5:40 PM CT
The Reds reinstated Joey Votto from the bereavement list on Saturday, the AP reports. Votto is not in the starting lineup and may sit out until early next week. "He hasn’t hit in a week," manager Dusty Baker explains. "He worked out a couple of times."

Our View: What? Did Joey forget how to hit during his week away?
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/10, 9:17 AM CT
Joey Votto will miss the next three to seven days while on the bereavement list, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The team brought in Adam Rosales, and designated pitcher Marcus McBeth for assignment.

Our View: It remains undisclosed why Votto needs time away from the team. As previously stated, he is eligible to be reinstated from the bereavement list on Tuesday, and must be reinstated by next Saturday.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/9, 5:35 PM CT
The Cincinnati Reds placed rookie first baseman Joey Votto on the bereavement list Saturday, according to the Associated Press. At Votto's request, the reason was not revealed.

Our View: Votto is hitting .280 with 21 doubles, 14 HR and 53 RBI. He ranks among the National League rookie leaders in most statistical categories. He is eligible to be reinstated from the bereavement list on Tuesday, and must be reinstated by next Saturday.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/3, 3:12 PM CT
The Reds and Nationals did battle today, though it wasn't too exciting as the Reds allowed four runs in the 1st inning and failed to recover. For Cincy, it was first baseman Joey Votto doing the bulk of the work, going 3-for-4 at the dish with his 14th homer of the season, totaling one RBI and one run scored on the day.

Our View: Votto hit .261 last month and totaled just eight RBIs along the way. He already has four this month after just three games.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/2, 9:50 PM CT
Joey Votto went 1-for-4 and collected three RBI in Saturday's 10-6 loss to Washington.

Our View: That was his highest RBI output since July 19, when he also registered three against the Mets. He should remain a decent corner infielder in mixed-leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/23, 10:37 AM CT
Joey Votto was out of the Reds' lineup Tuesday, but wasn't injured in his collision with Francisco Cordero in the ninth inning of Monday's game, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Manager Dusty Baker just wanted to get Javier Valentin some at-bats at first base.

Our View: So fantasy owners should not be concerned with Votto's absence Tuesday. He should remain a serviceable corner infielder in mixed-leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/16, 10:55 PM CT
Joey Votto has a .279-13-40 line over the first half, though his numbers have fallen over the past 39 games leading to just three home runs, 11 RBI and a .262 average.

Our View: Votto has had a solid start to his major league career giving the Reds about the level of offense they had been hoping for. Votto should remain a viable corner infield option in mixed leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/10, 8:54 PM CT
The Reds suffered the 7-2 loss to St. Louis this evening with first baseman Joey Votto providing the only offense of note for Cincy. Votto went 1-for-4 with his 11th home run of the season, good for two RBIs.

Our View: Votto has struggled at the plate this month, hitting .211 through June. Tonight's homer was his first since May 24th.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/4, 9:33 PM CT
It wasn't pretty, totaling just three hits as a team on the evening, but Cincinnati managed to score runs and put the win on the board versus Philadelphia, 2-0. First baseman Joey Votto was the voice of offense, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two doubles, good for two RBIs on the night.

Our View: Votto has shown well, hitting .281 through may with six homers and 16 RBIs. His June has gotten off to a slow start, but tonight could get him jump started.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/28, 9:04 PM CT
Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto put a strong effort on the field as his Reds beat Pittsburgh 9-1. Votto went 3-for-3 with a walk at the plate, hitting his 10th double of the season to total two RBIs and three runs scored on the evening.

Our View: Votto also added his third stolen base of the season and now has seven home runs through the month of May.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/13, 9:42 PM CT
Joey Votto hit his eighth home run of the season on Tuesday night for the Reds.

Our View: Dusty Baker's faith in the youngster has paid off as Votto has made Scott Hatteberg useless in Cincy. Votto is now hitting .288-8-20 and is shaping up to be a fine corner infielder.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/7, 3:30 PM CT
Joey Votto started a four-homer second inning for the slumping Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon by hitting a solo shot of Jon Lieber. Votto followed that plate appearance with two more home runs on the afternoon, registering his fifth, sixth and seventh long balls of the season.

Our View: Votto finished the game with four RBI and three runs scored. This performance is reward for those who believed Votto would eventually win out at first base over veteran Scott Hatteberg this spring.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/5, 6:40 PM CT
Joey Votto, with more playing time, has begun to show flashes of his talent. The Reds first baseman has started to hit for power, but it's his plate discipline that's always been the question mark. However, that patience has started to grow as Votto accepted two walks on Sunday, which gives him three in the last two games. This is significant because Votto has only seven free passes on the season.

Our View: In fact, Votto has drawn six walks in the last six games. His 10 extra-base hits (four HR and six 2B) in 85 at bats, his .294 average and his .348 on base percentage could be just the start of better things to come.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/22, 10:19 PM CT
Young 1B Joey Votto has been carrying a bit of a hot stick for the Cincinnati Reds this season and put his best forward in tonight's 1-8 thumping of the LA Dodgers. Votto went 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting his fourth double of the season with two runs scored.

Our View: That's four multi-hit games for Votto over his last 10 games.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 4/19, 4:59 PM CT
Joey Votto went 1-for-4 on Saturday but that one hit was a two run home run for the Reds.

Our View: Votto continues to be productive as his home run was off lefty Brian Shouse today. If he continues to hit left-handed pitching well, there is no reason to believe he will relinquish much playing time to Scott Hatteberg.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/18, 6:23 PM CT
Joey Votto appears to have grabbed the full-time starting role at first base for the Reds relegating Scott Hatteberg to backup status, this according to MLB.com. "I want to play but this isn't a surprise," Hatteberg said. "He is the future. I'm excess."

Our View: Votto, who at one point in camp appeared slated to start the year in the minors, is hitting .351 with eight RBI after a big game last time out (five RBI), and appears well on his way to being, at worst, a strong CI play in NL Only leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 4/12, 6:57 PM CT
Joey Votto is batting only .238 with nary a single RBI in 21 AB, so he has been spending extra time in the batting cage trying to fix his stroke, this according to MLB.com.

Our View: Votto also hit barely .200 this spring (.206), so it's really a minor miracle that he is still with the big league club. If he doesn't start hitting soon, he might just find himself riding buses in the minors instead of planes in the majors.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/2, 3:44 PM CT
Joey Votto will get the start at first base on Wednesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Scott Hatteberg will ride the pine today, and Votto needs a strong performance to earn more playing time as he had a mediocre spring training.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/26, 8:47 PM CT
Joey Votto had a tough day at the plate against Toronto on Wednesday as he went 0-for-3 with one strikeout. He was playing in the DH spot and his spring average dipped to .204. Today's performance will not help his chances to beat out Scott Hatteberg for the starting spot at first base.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/6, 1:16 PM CT
The Cincinnati Enquirer is slowly exposing the type of manager Dusty Baker is, old school. The latest report out of Reds camp notes that Baker wants his hitters to hit. “I really, really hate the called third strike. I hate that. You're guess and you ain't ready to hit.” Baker was referring to a Joey Votto at-bat. Baker on Votto: “He needs to swing some more. I talked to him about that. Strikeouts aren't the only criteria. I'd like to see him more aggressive.” Baker trusts veterans and you can bet he will put up with a strikeout from Adam Dunn long before he accepts it from the rookie first baseman. At this point expect the first-bag in Cincinnati to be platooned this year between Votto and veteran Scott Hatteberg.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 2/23, 9:09 AM CT
Reds manager Dusty Baker hinted Friday that Joey Votto could unseat Scott Hatteberg at first base this season, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "What's Hatteberg? Thirty-eight?" Baker said. "Votto's the future here. I talked to Hatteberg about Votto. He thinks he's going to be a heck of a player. He's not conceding his position. ... I think he understands to be part of the club that Votto might have to be a major part of it. It might be Votto's time." Votto's one of the Reds' top prospects, and his combination of power and speed is enticing in fantasy terms. The job probably is Hatteberg's to lose, but a big spring from Votto could push Hatteberg to a reserve role.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/5, 10:48 PM CT
Reds rookie first baseman Joey Votto went 3-for-3 with a home run in his first major league start Wednesday against the Mets.

Our View: Votto is an intriguing keeper league prospect to keep an eye on.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/4, 4:46 PM CT
Joey Votto, one of the Reds' most prized prospects, was recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday, according to the Reds website. "He's earned it. He had an excellent year at Triple-A," said Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky. "It's up to [interim manager Pete Mackanin] how he's used. I'm sure he'll get some exposure. First time in the big leagues, he's excited." Votto batted .294 with a .381 OBP, 22 homers, 92 RBI and 17 steals prior to his promotion. Interim manager Pete Mackanin has yet to say how much playing time Votto will receive. But either way, Votto is certainly a guy to keep tabs on, especially in keeper leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/22, 11:03 AM CT
Joey Votto is making a case for a promotion. He extended his hitting streak to 15 games on Monday, when he went 2-for-3 with a grand slam. Votto is batting .403 with four homers, 11 RBI, 14 runs, and a 1.093 OPS in May.
