Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 9/26, 3:43 PM CT
Ian Snell looked good in a no decision against Toronto on Saturday, giving up one earned run (two total) off five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

Our View: Snell has looked pretty effective his last eight starts with the Mariners. Control will probably always be an issue for him, but he's always had the stuff and is making a strong case for a spot in the rotation entering 2010.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/20, 7:07 PM CT
Ian Snell moved his record to 5-2 on the season with a 7-1 win over the Yankees on Sunday. Snell went 5.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits while walking four and striking out two.

Our View: Snell has been dealing with a stiff wrist as of late, but he looked pretty healthy in his outing today. He has been solid since coming over to the Mariners, and he continues to take advantage of his new situation.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/16, 8:31 PM CT
Ian Snell (stiff wrist) may be forced to miss his next start, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: We will keep you updated on his status. In nine starts since joining the Mariners, he is 4-2 with a 4.86 ERA.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/16, 12:23 AM CT
Ian Snell allowed two earned runs on five hits over six innings in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox at Safeco Field. He had two walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Snell pitched well tonight, but had to settle for a no-decision. He allowed two or less earned runs in five of his last six starts.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/9, 11:56 PM CT
Ian Snell had more control problems on Wednesday night, walking five batters, while allowing four runs, in 5.1 innings, as the Mariners lost 6-3 to the Angels.

Our View: Snell has now walked 9 batters in his past 10.1 innings pitched, and despite his 4-2 record since coming to the junior circuit, is not worth owning outside of very deep AL-only leagues.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/4, 12:02 AM CT
Ian Snell moved to 4-1 on the season with the Mariners on Thursday as Seattle beat Oakland 7-4. Snell went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out four.

Our View: Snell has managed to put up a nice record with the M's this season, but his 4.89 ERA leaves plenty to be desired. His is a risky fantasy play, and you should probably look elsewhere before giving Snell the nod.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/30, 12:03 AM CT
Ian Snell improved to 3-1 as a member of the Mariners on Saturday night, allowing just two runs in five innings, as the M's beat the Royals 8-4 at home.

Our View: Snell still has an ugly 5.10 Seattle ERA, however, and can't be counted on to turn in quality starts from game-to-game.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 8/24, 11:49 PM CT
Ian Snell was in control from the hill in Monday's 3-1 win over Oakland at Safeco Field, as he only surrendered one earned run on four hits over six innings. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Snell earned his fourth win of 2009, and is 2-1 over five starts with the Mariners. He is pitching well right now, as he allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts (11.2 innings).
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/19, 9:32 PM CT
Ian Snell only surrendered one earned run on four hits over 5.2 innings in Wednesday's 3-1 win at Detroit. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Snell improved his record to 3-9, and earned his first win over four starts as a member of the Mariners. He bounced back well after getting hammered for eight earned runs over six innings in his last outing against the Yankees. Snell is worth a look in AL-only leagues for his next turn in Seattle's rotation.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/14, 12:10 AM CT
Ian Snell was lit up for eight earned runs on nine hits over six innings in Thursday's 11-1 loss to the Yankees at Safeco Field. He had three walks and four strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View: Snell falls to 2-9, and his ERA climbs to 5.84. He remains an unstable fantasy hurler, and is just an option for deeper leagues.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/9, 12:52 AM CT
Ian Snell lasted just 1.1 innings in his start on Saturday. The Rays touched him to the tune three runs on a pair of hits and six walks. He did not factor in the decision of the Mariners' 10-4 loss.

Our View: Snell shined in his first start as a Mariner, but Saturday showed more of his Pirate side. The six walks is inexcusable. Follow his progress closely over the next few starts and see which version of the pitcher sticks.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/2, 9:57 PM CT
Ian Snell shined in his Seattle debut on Sunday. The former Pirate held a dangerous Texas lineup to just two runs on three hits and three walks over six innings. He pitched well enough to win, but didn't factor in the decision as the Mariners' bullpen crumbled.

Our View: Well, Snell jumped from failed starter, to minor league nobody to solid contributor in Seattle. He instantly has fantasy value once again and could shine in his new role. He was dominant in the minors and is worth a look in AL-only league.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 8/1, 12:05 PM CT
Ian Snell will make his Mariners debut and start on Sunday against the Rangers, MLB.com reports. Felix Hernandez will work on Saturday, Ryan Rowland-Smith will start on Tuesday, and either Garrett Olson or Luke French will go on Wednesday.

Our View: The Mariners have two new rotation pieces in Snell and French, and it looks like Snell will get a clear shot right away. Ian is worth a look in AL-only leagues, although Sunday's start comes in Texas.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/30, 5:52 PM CT
The Seattle Mariners have optioned the newly acquired Ian Snell to Triple-A Tacoma, according to the team's official Twitter page.

Our View: Snell has been absolutely dominating Triple-A hitting as of late, and he should be in the M's rotation before the season is out. If Jarrod Washburn is moved before tomorrow's deadline, Snell could be on the fast track back to the majors.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/29, 12:02 PM CT
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ian Snell and shortstop Jack Wilson have been dealt to the Mariners.

Our View: The Pirates get catcher Jeff Clement, shortstop Ronnie Cedeno and pitchers Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock. Snell has been fantastic in Triple-A since his demotion and could join the Mariners' rotation, especially if Jarrod Washburn is dealt.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/26, 2:03 PM CT
According to a report at MLBlogs.com, the New York Yankees have a scout in the stands to watch Pirates' pitcher Ian Snell throw on Sunday. Snell has been pitching in the minors since asking for his demotion earlier this summer.

Our View: Snell has been excellent since moving to Triple-A, and it would be a smart move for the Pirates to move him now while his value is high. Snell does not want to pitch in Pittsburgh, but he could be a nice addition to another rotation, especially in New York where they are struggling with their fifth starter position.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/20, 9:52 AM CT
The Pirates claim Ian Snell has said he would like to stay in the minor leagues, and that he has no desire to pitch for the Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Snell has not pitched well in the majors this season, and was a major headache for Pirates management with his negative attitude. However, he has posted an absurd 0.34 ERA in four starts with Triple-A Indianapolis, and struck out 34 batters in just 26.1 innings. He has denied saying he did not want to pitch in Pittsburgh, and it sounds like the team could just be trying to cook up an excuse about why they're not recalling the brilliantly pitching righty.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/15, 11:34 AM CT
According to the New York Post, the Yankees, who are looking for additional pitching help, have some interest in Pirates' hurler Ian Snell.

Our View: Snell has struggled mightily this season and was demoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on June 25th. He's currently 2-8 with a 5.36 ERA, but still has quality stuff. He's just not executing his pitches, or his command of them (walks have been a problem with 44 in 80.2 innings). If he does head to NYC he'll get much more fantasy attention there than in Pittsburgh. Stay tuned.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/29, 12:00 AM CT
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, recently demoted Pirates' starter Ian Snell struck out 17 hitters in his first start for Triple-A Indianapolis. Snell went seven innings and punched the first 13 batters he faced out with the strikeout.

Our View: It may be Triple-A, but striking out 17 hitters in seven innings is amazing. The major league record for consecutive strikeouts in 10, and Snell got 13 today in his game. Hard to believe he is going to stay down for long after this start, especially since the Pirates aren't exactly a pitching juggernaut.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/26, 10:25 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that recently demoted starting pitcher Ian Snell is unlikely to be traded.

Our View: Apparently, shockingly, nobody wants him. Snell has developed a reputation as a headcase, and unfortunately for him, one that can't pitch. The Pirates will surely move him if they find an interested party, but that does not seem likely at this point in time. He is not an option in any format.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/25, 3:52 PM CT
According to The Sports Network, the Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned starting pitcher Ian Snell to Triple-A Indianapolis. The corresponding move is expected to be announced prior to Friday's home game.

Our View: Snell was struggling badly this season, but this move still comes as a bit of a surprise considering it was reported yesterday that the Pirates had no plans to remove him from the rotation. Maybe they meant no plans to remove him from the Triple-A rotation? That would make more sense.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/24, 6:06 PM CT
The Pirates currently are not planning on dropping struggling starter Ian Snell from their rotation, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He holds a 2-8 record with a 5.36 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, but Snell is still slated to take his next turn in the rotation Sunday. The Pirates are sticking with him - but fantasy owners should not.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/23, 9:52 PM CT
Ian Snell was dreadful again on Tuesday night, lasting just 2.2 innings as the Pirates lost 5-4 to the Indians.

Our View: The Pirates are losing patience with Snell, and appear anxious to deal him. If he's not shipped out, he's still likely to lose his rotation spot sometime in the near future. He is not an option in any format.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/17, 9:11 AM CT
The Texas Rangers are the latest team to express interest in Ian Snell according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The paper said a trade is still unlikely, though, because most teams want Snell as a reliever but the Pirates want to be compensated for Snell as a starter. As a starter, Snell has been bad in 2009, going 1-7 with a 5.25 ERA.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/15, 10:06 AM CT
Pittsburgh Sports is reporting that the Pirates are actively shopping Ian Snell and that the Rockies are his most likely destination.

Our View: Snell has apparently fallen out of favor in Pittsburgh after blaming his seven losses on many things besides himself, and, of course, ineffective pitching. Rockies manager Jim Tracy is said to have liked Snell during his days in Pittsburgh, so this trade could make sense for both sides. Snell is 1-7 with a 5.25 ERA and 1.61 WHIP this season. In other words, terrible fantasy numbers.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/12, 8:51 PM CT
Ian Snell gave up two earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Tigers at PNC Park. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Snell suffered his seventh loss of the season, and holds a 5.35 ERA. He is winless over his last 10 starts, and is not fit for fantasy duty outside of deeper leagues right now.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/7, 5:01 PM CT
Ian Snell allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings on Sunday, but didn't factor in the decision as the Pirates fell to the Astros 6-4.

Our View: Snell has decent stuff, but hasn't been good enough this season to merit starts in leagues outside of NL-only. His ERA stands at 5.54.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/1, 9:21 PM CT
Ian Snell was rocked for five earned runs on six hits over six innings in Monday's 8-5 win over the Mets at PNC Park. He issued five walks with two strikeouts.

Our View: This was a terrible outing for Snell, and he was lucky to end the night with a no-decision rather than a loss. He has now gone eight straight starts without claiming a win.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 5/26, 10:43 PM CT
Ian Snell got served on Tuesday. He allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings and took the loss. He fell to 1-6 on the season as the Cubs blasted the Pirates 6-1.

Our View: Snell has not impressed this season and saw his ERA jump from 4.88 to 5.43 after Tuesday's dismal start. He has allowed 88 hits and walks in just 53 innings and is a risky fantasy start in any format.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 5/21, 8:55 PM CT
Ian Snell had a quality start on Thursday, but the bullpen blew the lead and he did not factor in the decision. He tossed six innings of three-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out six, but the Pirates' fell to the Nationals 5-4.

Our View: Snell has been unimpressive overall this season, but has shown signs of life recently with three quality starts in his last four outings. He's a decent NL-only option.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 5/5, 10:47 PM CT
Ian Snell took his fourth loss of the season on Tuesday as he was victimized by the Brewers' lineup. He allowed five runs on four hits and five walks over five innings in an 8-5 defeat.

Our View: The walks have been a problem for Snell all season and he now has 23 on the year in just 34 innings. Still, he's much improved from last season and has already logged three quality starts in six outings in 2009.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/29, 3:15 PM CT
Ian Snell held the Brewers to five hits and one run over seven strong innings on Wednesday, but he took home a loss. The right-hander walked four, struck out five, and tossed 131 pitches.

Our View: Snell dropped his ERA to 3.72 ERA, which looks nice, but we still have worries. He has been struggling to throw strikes but hasn't been too badly burned over his last four outings. There are positive signs here, but he is still a huge risk.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/25, 12:39 AM CT
Ian Snell lasted five innings on Friday, allowing three runs on six hits while walking five and striking out three. He did not receive a decision in the outing.

Our View: Snell was wild on Friday, as he walked five in just five innings. He only gave up three runs but he allowed 11 hitters to reach base. His fantasy value is not strong if he puts hitters on base, but if he keeps his walk total down he can contribute in NL-only leagues for sure.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/18, 2:03 PM CT
Ian Snell threw seven scoreless innings, with four hits allowed, in Saturday's 10-0 win over the Braves at PNC Park. He had three strikeouts and three walks.

Our View: Other than the three free passes, it was a strong outing for Snell as he earned his first win of the season. He only won seven games over his entire 2008 campaign.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/7, 10:53 PM CT
Ian Snell got beat up by the Cardinals on Tuesday. He surrendered eight runs and nine hits in four innings in Pittsburgh's 9-3 loss at Busch Stadium.

Our View: If for whatever reason you have Snell on your roster, don't start him against the Cardinals. He recorded a 7.20 ERA in six starts against St. Louis in 2008, and the Cards batted nearly .350 off of him.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/7, 8:32 AM CT
Ian Snell will not be on a limited pitch count for tonight's start at St. Louis despite missing his last spring outing due to the flu, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Snell will still be an unstable fantasy option, as he allowed 12 home runs over 14 career games against the Cardinals, with a 4.92 ERA.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 4/3, 10:49 AM CT
Ian Snell has been slowed by the stomach flu, but is on pace to make his scheduled start next Tuesday, according to MLB.com. He is slated to work two innings in a Triple-A game Saturday.

Our View: The club is not concerned that he won't make one more Grapefruit League start before the regular season because he extended his workload earlier than usual in order to participate in the World Baseball Classic with Puerto Rico.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 4/2, 11:29 AM CT
Ian Snell has been scratched from Thursday's start due to a case of the flu, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Snell should be fine with just a bit of rest, and be ready to go for his first start of the regular season.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 3/22, 3:01 PM CT
Ian Snell allowed six runs on nine hits in four and one-third innings Sunday versus the Reds.

Our View: The Pirates would love to have the 2007 version of Snell back. That season, he won only nine games versus 12 losses, but he posted a 3.76 ERA. With a little run support and similar numbers this season, Snell might be a productive hurler on a weak Pittsburgh rotation.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 2/26, 4:37 PM CT
Starting pitcher Ian Snell allowed two runs, both unearned, in two innings of work Thursday as the Pirates rallied in the ninth to beat the Red Sox 3-2. Snell also struck out three and walked two.

Our View: The Pirates will need Snell to step up big time and improve on his 2008 ERA of 5.42 if they hope to even think about challenging for a division crown this season.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 12/31, 8:02 AM CT
Ian Snell will represent Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He is the first member of the Pirates to commit to the tournament, but held a poor 1.76 WHIP over 31 starts in 2008. Snell was born in Delaware but qualifies as he has Puerto Rican ancestry on his father's side.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 12/9, 8:24 AM CT
The Beaver County Times reports that pitcher Ian Snell is drawing some trade interest from both the Nationals and the Braves.

Our View: After a promising 2007, Snell fell to 7-12 last season with a 5.42 ERA. His trade value is likely pretty low at this point.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/28, 7:53 AM CT
Pirates' GM Neal Huntington stated that the Pirates will not be "big players" in free agency, but noted that they will be looking for a power bat, a starting pitcher, and a setup reliever (likely a righty), according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Trading Jack Wilson would free up $7.25 million. Team president Frank Coonelly stated two weeks ago that the budget for major league payroll will rise from the current $54 million, but he stressed that does not mean the number will be filled just to be filled.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/26, 11:51 PM CT
Ian Snell only issued one earned run on one hit over five innings in Friday's 6-3 win over the Padres, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: Snell struggled for most of the season, but ended on a high note, as he only allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 9/13, 10:22 PM CT
Ian Snell issued five earned runs on nine hits over a mere four innings of work in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Cardinals, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: He continues to struggle and ended his poor outing with a no decision. He only recorded six wins over 29 starts in 2008.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/2, 11:26 PM CT
Ian Snell threw a good game for the Pirates, earning his sixth victory in the team's 3-2 win over the Reds. Snell gave up just one earned run in six innings of work.

Our View: Snell is wildly inconsistent, and if he could ever remedy that, he might be an asset in fantasy leagues. Alas, that does not seem likely, at least not in Pittsburgh.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/19, 10:38 PM CT
The Pirates got just enough hits and more than enough runs to pull the 4-1 win over St. Louis, thanks in large part to the efforts of RHP Ian Snell. Snell pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing just four hits and one walked powered by eight strikeouts.

Our View: Snell improves to 5-10 on the season with a 5.60 ERA. He has registered just two wins since April 12th before this evening, though he has allowed just nine earned runs over his last four starts.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 8/9, 8:59 PM CT
The lack of offense in Pittsburgh's 4-2 loss to Philly resulted in another disappointing result for Ian Snell, pitching six innings to allow three runs (all earned) on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: This is one of the better outings Snell has put forth in recent weeks, but if there is no offense to support the cause, it doesn't matter.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/3, 8:34 PM CT
As has become customary, Ian Snell struggled once again for the Pirates permitting four runs and 10 base runners while recording only 12 outs.

Our View: Snell has allowed four or more earned runs in eight of his last 12 games as his ERA continues to climb (6.14). Only a sadist has him active at the moment.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/31, 8:52 AM CT
The Mets have "kicked around" the idea of trading for Ian Snell and sticking him in the bullpen for the rest of the year, according to SI's Jon Heyman.

Our View: The Mets would put Snell in the rotation next year. He'll require a steep price despite his down 2007 season.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/28, 9:25 PM CT
Ian Snell allowed four runs and eight hits to go along with a walk and eight strikeouts against the red hot Rockies on Monday. He won for just the second time in his last 18 starts. He is 4-8 this season.

Our View: Snell is better than he has appeared in 2008. His numbers are terrible but don't be shocked to see them improve from here out.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 5:11 PM CT
Ian Snell had another brutal outing on Wednesday as he allowed six hits, three walks and five runs over just three innings.

Our View: About the only good news here is that he escaped without picking up a loss. This was the fourth time in six starts that Snell has failed to pitch five innings, and it was the eighth straight outing of at least three walks. He belongs nowhere near a starting lineup.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/18, 10:47 PM CT
Ian Snell pitched a quality game for Pittsburgh but suffered the loss as the Pirates were taken down 5-2 by the Rockies. Snell went six innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out five.

Our View: Snell's record dropped to 3-8 on the year, and though he has tantalized fantasy owners before, he cannot be trusted to make consistent quality starts.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/8, 7:58 AM CT
Ian Snell, who will be making his first start tonight since June 22, has a simple plan, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He said, "Just let her rip. I feel great. A hundred percent. Better than I have all year. And I'm going to throw the ball like I know I can. The velocity's there. The break is there. I can't wait to get out there. My injury kept my velocity down, and it made me change my arm angles all the time. But not now. I'm ready to go."

Our View: Manager John Russell will be monitoring Snell closely once he reaches 70-80 pitches, but there is no set limit if he looks solid. Snell allowed 11 earned runs over his last two starts, and should not be considered for your lineup in his first game back.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/3, 2:18 PM CT
Ian Snell will be removed from the DL on Tuesday and make the start against the Houston Astros, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Snell is not having a good year after showing so much promise last season. He should not be on fantasy rosters at this point, and until he can lower that 5.99 ERA and 1.93 WHIP, he shouldn't even be considered.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/26, 12:14 PM CT
Ian Snell has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a mild muscle strain in his elbow, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The move makes room for newly acquired reliever Denny Bautista on the 25-man roster.

Our View: The move is retroactive to Monday, meaning he is eligible to return on July 8.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/26, 11:12 AM CT
Ian Snell threw soft toss off flat ground from 60 feet on Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday. If the session goes favorably, he could be back in action for the Pirates over the weekend.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/25, 8:21 AM CT
Ian Snell was told he could begin throwing within the next two days after tests on Monday cleared the right-hander of any significant injury, this according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "It took them about 45 minutes to tell me, and I was freaking out sitting in DeMeo's office," Snell said of team physician, Dr. Patrick DeMeo. "Brad Henderson, our head trainer, came in and told me I was fine. But I still wanted to hear it from the doctor."

Our View: Snell is nursing elbow soreness and is expected to miss one start.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/23, 11:36 PM CT
Ian Snell may have his next start skipped, but he is not expected to land on the DL, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Snell has a case of "golfer's elbow" that has him listed as day-to-day. "Probably, he'll only have to miss one start," GM Neal Huntington said. "Hopefully, we can avoid the disabled list."

Our View: John Van Benschoten likely will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Friday in place of the injured Phil Dumatrait, but it's not clear who will start for Snell if he isn't able to go.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/23, 2:59 PM CT
Ian Snell's MRI has revealed no structural damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, but he has been diagnosed with "golfers elbow," according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Treatments sometimes include anti-inflammatory drugs, but more often than not rest and elbow support are the best ways to aid the problem. He is listed as day-to-day. The Pirates have not yet decided whether he will skip his next scheduled start, which would be Friday against the Rays.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/22, 11:48 PM CT
Ian Snell's elbow has been bothering him for while, and after suffering through four innings on Sunday he has been scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, according to the Times On Line. “It hurt on every pitch,” he said. “I’ve never had an injury before, never messed up any bones or had surgery. This is all new to me.”

Our View: Snell has been awful virtually all year, so an injury certainly seems possible. Many of Snell's fastballs on Sunday where in the 89-90 mph range, four to five miles below where he normally resides with the heat. Stay tuned for further updates, but even the best case scenario will likely have him missing his next scheduled start on Friday.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/22, 4:27 PM CT
Ian Snell suffered another brutal outing on Sunday as he allowed eight hits, four walks and four runs over just four innings for the Pirates.

Our View: Snell has been dealing with some tenderness in his throwing arm for a while, but his across the board regression this season hints that the issue may be more than some minor annoyance. With a WHIP approaching 2.00, Snell has been a ratio killer.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 9:42 PM CT
Ian Snell won his third game of the season on Wednesday as he limited the Nationals to just one run over six innings for the Pirates.

Our View: Snell has been beset by ineffectiveness for most of the season, but over his last two starts he has 15 K and just six BB, so perhaps now is the time to make a trade offer for the fire balling righty.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/1, 6:38 PM CT
Ian Snell allowed six runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out three in on four inning of work as the Pirates lost 7-4 to the Cardinals.

Our View: Snell lost his fifth consecutive decision and is 0-5 in his past nine starts. His last win came April 12.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 5/28, 9:03 AM CT
Ian Snell is justifiably upset with himself. The right-hander struggled again on Tuesday against the Reds. "I need to get my (stuff) together," Snell tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I'm letting everybody down. I'm letting myself down... For crying out loud, I walked, like, 100 people tonight. I can't seem to keep pitches down. Or if I keep them down, they're not strikes. And if they're close, they're not strikes." For the record, Snell walked seven batters over five innings.

Our View: There's no getting around it. Snell has been awful over his last seven starts, and fantasy owners are in a tough spot. He needs to be on fantasy benches until he figures out what's wrong.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 5/27, 3:20 PM CT
Ian Snell will take the hill against the Reds in Cincinnati tonight, according to MLB.com. Snell is 2-3 this season with a 4.84 ERA and poor 1.70 WHIP, and is 1-2 with a 4.32 ERA in four career starts at the Great American Ball Park.

Our View: Snell is having a disappointing campaign, and has a poor track against the Reds in Cincinnati. He should remain on your bench tonight.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 5/15, 4:22 PM CT
Ian Snell had another rough outing on Thursday as he was hammered for 11 hits and five runs in only four innings against the Cardinals. He received a no-decision for his efforts.

Our View: Snell has failed to even remotely approach the expectations that most had for him entering this season, but there are no indications that he is injured meaning he likely would make a nice target to acquire via the trade route with his value being depressed.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 5/5, 6:49 PM CT
Ian Snell's record dropped to 2-2 with Sunday's loss to the Nationals. His 5.09 ERA and 1.65 WHIP are very concerning, especially for the most consistent piece of a Pirates rotation. Snell's strike outs are down on the season. He has only 22 in 34.2 innings of work for a career low 5.53 K/9.

Our View: The fact that Snell hasn't had more than five strikouts in any of his seven starts indicates there are problems with his mechanics or he isn't completely healthy.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/4, 4:43 PM CT
Ian Snell continues to struggle. He served up 10 hits and four runs over six innings against the Nationals on Sunday. Snell struck out only two batters. He has allowed at least three runs in six of his seven starts this year.

Our View: We still like Snell in general, but his current work is a bit alarming. He's not making batters miss at the moment. It may be a decent buy-low moment.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/30, 5:34 PM CT
Ian Snell has struggled a bit out of the gate with a 4.93 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, and he plans on showing some major improvement moving forward, according to MLB.com. "I'm trying to be too relaxed and trying to place the ball rather than do what I do, and that's throw hard," Snell said. "I've just got to get back to my original self and stop trying to be something that I'm not."

Our View: Snell is averaging less than six K per 9 IP while allowing almost 11 hits per 9, two key factors in his early struggles. As such, Snell's value is currently depressed making him an excellent pitcher to target if his current owner is dissatisfied with his early results.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/23, 9:06 PM CT
Ian Snell lasted six innings against the Cardinals and picked up the no-decision as he allowed four runs in six innings.

Our View: Snell was totally out of character tonight with four BB and only one K, but he kept his team in the game when he didn't have his best stuff, and that is the mark of a champion.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/23, 1:22 PM CT
Ian Snell is set to start against the Cardinals tonight, according to MLB.com. Snell is 2-1 so far with a 4.07 ERA over 24.1 innings, with 20 strikeouts.

Our View: Snell continues to hover around the top-20 starting pitchers in the National League. Both his ERA and WHIP (1.40) will need to be lower if he wants to firmly establish himself as a top-notch starter.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 4/18, 5:06 PM CT
Ian Snell lost his first game of the season on Friday as he allowed three runs in six innings against the Cubs. Snell struck out five while walking one and allowing nine hits on the day.

Our View: Snell continues to hang around the top-20 starters in the NL, and there appears to be many reasons to believe that a potential breakout could happen this season.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/12, 10:18 PM CT
Ian Snell picked up his second win of the season despite striking out only two batters and allowing nine hits in 6.1 innings on Saturday night.

Our View: Snell limited the Reds to three runs on the night and continues to offer reasons to believe that he could end up as one of the top-20 starters in the NL this season.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 4/6, 3:50 PM CT
Ian Snell was impressive on Sunday as he only allowed two runs on four hits over six innings against Florida, with an eye opening 10 strikeouts and no walks, in a 9-2 win. Ian Snell struggled in a no decision on Monday night as he allowed four runs on seven hits (solo home run by Brian McCann) over six innings of work against Atlanta, with two walks and three strikeouts. Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 3/16, 7:14 PM CT
Following a story from earlier in the week, Ian Snell has accepted a new three-year agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to the Associated Press. Snell and the Pittsburgh Pirates agreed Sunday to three-year contract worth at least $8 million, a deal reached five days after the Pirates had unilaterally renewed the pitcher for 2008. Snell would have been eligible for salary arbitration after next season. The agreement includes team options for 2011 and 2012. Pittsburgh selected Snell in the 26th round of the 2000 amateur draft after he graduated from high school in Camden, Del. The 26-year-old right-hander went 9-12 last season with a 3.76 ERA in 32 starts and has a 24-26 record in a major league career that began in 2004. Snell led the Pirates with 208 innings last season, and general manager Neal Huntington decided Snell was worth the risk of a multiyear contract.

Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/10, 11:04 PM CT
Ian Snell hurled four innings on Monday and he picked up the victory as he allowed only two hits, one walk and one run on the day. Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/8, 8:15 AM CT
The Pirates have formally extended a long-term contract offer to starter Ian Snell, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. No specifics of the offer were immediately known. Snell, the Pittsburgh ace, continues to grow into his role. His 2007 statline -- 3.76 ERA, 177 Ks, 1.33 WHIP and 7.66 K rate -- doesn't represented his 9-12 record. With any run support Snell would have approached 13-14 wins.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/5, 1:11 PM CT
The Pirates and Ian Snell are in talks regarding a long-term contract. "I'd love to be part of this team for a long time," Snell tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I'd love to see it get done." Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 1/13, 7:53 PM CT
The Pirates are in no hurry to lock Ian Snell down for a long time. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Snell recently approached the team about a long-term deal, but was told the franchise was not interested. Snell is one of the cornerstones of the Pirates staff; however, he is three years away from free agency and the team has little incentive now to give him a multi-year deal. Another solid season from him may change their mind.
Ian Snell, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/26, 8:28 AM CT
Ian Snell made his final start of the year Tuesday, the AP reports. Snell admitted to tiring in the second half of the year, so the team saw no reason to bring him back Sunday. Although manager Jim Tracy had stated previously that Ian Snell would pitch again Sunday if he didn't earn his 15th victory Tuesday (which he didn't), it now appears that Snell will be shut down because of mild tightness in his right forearm, according to the Tribune-Review. "It's like I said, 15 wins is not going to make or break my season," Snell said. "I've proven enough -- to myself and other people -- that I can pitch in the majors as a starter. I'll have other chances to win 15 games, I promise." Shane Youman will likely start for the Bucs on Sunday.

Ian Snell was taken out of Wednesday's game after the seventh inning only because he'd taken a liner off his left heel in the fifth and it was beginning to cause him problems, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "It just started throbbing like a headache," Snell said. "I couldn't plant anymore. I tried to stand up, and pain just started shooting through it." Snell is expected to be able to make his next start, which won't come until Tuesday because of off days today and Monday.
