Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/8, 4:16 PM CT
Scott Olsen (left shoulder surgery) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Our View: The move was solely to clear space on the team's 40-man roster, and Olsen is expected to be healthy for the 2010 season.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/23, 5:44 PM CT
Scott Olsen's surgery on his left shoulder has been deemed as successful, according to MASN Sports.

Our View: Olsen will need 6-8 weeks of recovery time before he can begin a throwing program. Olsen is hopeful of being ready to participate at the start of spring training.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/21, 12:06 PM CT
The Washington Times is reporting that Nationals' starter Scott Olsen is set to undergo season ending surgery on his left shoulder. Olsen was diagnosed with a partial tear of the labrum.

Our View: Tough break for Olsen, although he hasn't exactly been dominating the league in 2009. He is still fairly young, and he should bounce back in 2010, but if anyone was utilizing Olsen you can feel free to get rid of him now.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 7/20, 6:20 PM CT
An MRI performed on Scott Olsen's ailing shoulder revealed "labrum issues," according to the Washington Times.

Our View: Acting manager anticipates Olsen being on the shelf for a while. Olsen has not pitched well enough to hold on fantasy rosters, with a 6.03 ERA and 1.72 WHIP.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/19, 11:21 AM CT
Even with an appointment with Dr. James Andrews scheduled for Monday, the Nationals have decided to place Scott Olsen (back) on the disabled list, according to The Washington Post.

Our View: Olsen is expected to be out for a while, and with his dreadful numbers this season, he isn't a candidate to stash on your DL.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/18, 7:59 PM CT
Scott Olsen is slated to visit Dr. James Andrews in Alabama Monday for a second opinion on his ailing shoulder, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Olsen is dealing with persistent soreness, and acting manager Jim Riggleman noted that he will likely be shut down for a while. Olsen holds a poor 6.03 ERA and 1.72 WHIP this season, and his absence should not hurt fantasy owners.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/18, 9:39 AM CT
Contrary to many previous reports, Scott Olsen will now simply have his next scheduled start skipped entirely due to shoulder discomfort, according to MLBLogs.com.

Our View: It's not known who will take his spot on Monday, but Sean Burnett is a possibility. It also isn't known whether or not he will hit the disabled list for the second time in 2009. What is known is that Olsen hasn't been very good this year, posting a 6.03 ERA in 11 starts, and now that he's again hurt, you might want to consider abandoning him outside of keeper leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 7/17, 3:07 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Scott Olsen will make his next scheduled start on Monday against the Mets, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Olsen was scratched from his start on Friday with tightness in the left side of his back. However, he's on the list of starters over the next six days so he must be feeling better. He's facing off against Livan Hernandez and may be a good candidate to start in fantasy leagues. He's been pitching well since coming off the DL (3.74 ERA) and it's no secret that the Mets have had trouble scoring runs recently.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/16, 8:44 PM CT
Scott Olsen has been scratched from his scheduled start on Friday, according to The Washington Times.

Our View: He apparently has "tightness in his left lat." He also has a 6.03 ERA in 62.2 innings this season, and is not a good option in any format beyond keepers.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 7/10, 10:25 PM CT
Scott Olsen was tagged for four earned runs on nine hits over six innings in Friday's 6-5 loss at Houston. He had two walks and one strikeout, and gave up two homers.

Our View: Olsen ended the night with a no-decision, and continues to struggle with a 6.03 ERA. He should not be considered for fantasy duty outside of deeper leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/9, 7:25 PM CT
Scott Olsen was rocked for five earned runs on six hits over five innings in Thursday's 11-10 win over the Astros at Nationals Park. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: The battle went 11 innings, and Olsen took a no-decision for his poor outing. Olsen only has two wins over 11 starts, with a 6.54 ERA. He should only be an option for deeper fantasy leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/5, 5:08 PM CT
Scott Olsen allowed three earned runs on eight hits over 8.2 innings in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Braves at Nationals Park. He issued five walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: It was not a solid outing for Olsen, namely as he gave up five free passes, but his teammates provided enough offensive support for him to earn his second win of the season. He still holds a 6.04 ERA for the season, and should only be employed in deeper NL-only leagues for his next turn in the Nationals' rotation.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 6/29, 9:56 PM CT
Scott Olsen issued two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 4-2 loss at Florida. He had no walks and racked up seven strikeouts.

Our View: Olsen pitched well in his return to the Nationals' rotation following his bout with tendinitis in his left shoulder. He ended the night with a no-decision, and his fantasy value shall remain limited while playing with the struggling Nationals (22-52).
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 6/29, 4:04 PM CT
As expected, Scott Olsen has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from left shoulder tendinitis, according to TSN. Shairon Martis was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to make room on the roster.

Our View: Olsen will return to the Nationals' rotation for tonight's battle at Florida, his former team. He held a poor 7.24 ERA over 41 innings this season prior to going down, and does not merit fantasy consideration for his first game back.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 6/28, 11:17 PM CT
According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Washington Nationals plan to activate pitcher Scott Olsen to start Monday's game. In a corresponding move, the team will option Shairon Martis to Triple-A Syracuse.

Our View: Olsen hasn't been good this season, and there is no reason to think he will be much better this time around. He plays on a bad team, and his fantasy value is nonexistent at this point. Stay away unless he proves to be a different pitcher in his second run with the team.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 6/26, 9:03 PM CT
Scott Olsen is expected to return to the Nationals at some point next week following his recovery from left shoulder tendinitis, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Skipper Manny Acta noted that is the plan for Olsen, although it is not official. He is not a solid pitcher, and his fantasy stock shall remain low upon his return - especially while playing for the struggling Nationals.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/20, 10:40 AM CT
According to the Washington Post, Scott Olsen, who is close to returning from shoulder tendinitis that has kept him out of action since May 18th, will bump one of the young starters from the rotation upon his return.

Our View: Craig Stammen, John Lannan, Ross Detwiler, Shairon Martis or Jordan Zimmermann could be heading to Triple-A in the near future. Barring any setbacks Olsen will return soon and one of these promising young arms will head back to the minors for more seasoning. This will likely force some friendly competition among the hurlers of the future and cause the cream to rise to the top. So far in June things have been going well for the youngsters - Nationals starters have a second best 3.11 ERA for the month - but regardless, someone has to go. Stay tuned to see who gets bumped.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/10, 7:38 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that Scott Olsen threw three scoreless innings in his first rehab start on Tuesday with Single-A Potomac. He gave up three hits and struck out four while throwing 34 pitches. He has been out since May 18 with shoulder tendinitis.

Our View: Olsen is still two or three weeks away. He was mostly ineffective in his first eight appearances this season and throughout all of last year. He is still far from a reliable fantasy pitcher.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 6/5, 8:21 PM CT
Scott Olsen, who is recovering from tendinitis in his left shoulder, recently threw two innings in an extended spring training game, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: Olsen is expected to start a rehab assignment soon, and could return to the Nationals in mid-June, barring a setback. Olsen is not a solid pitcher and plays for one of the worst teams in the majors, meaning his fantasy value will be limited to deeper leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 5/17, 1:02 PM CT
As expected, Scott Olsen has been placed on the 15-day DL with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, according to TSN. Ross Detwiler was recalled from the minors as the adjoining move.

Our View: Olsen will not hurt fantasy owners while on the shelf, as he held a poor 7.24 ERA and 1.90 WHIP over eight starts.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 5/17, 7:20 AM CT
Scott Olsen is bound for the 15-day DL due to tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Olsen was 1-4 over eight starts, with a 7.24 ERA and 1.90 WHIP, and won't be missed in fantasy leagues. Ross Detwiler will be recalled from Double-A to replace Olsen in the rotation while on the shelf.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/16, 6:18 PM CT
The Washington Post is reporting that Scott Olsen had an MRI on his shoulder after the game on Sunday. No word yet on the results of the test.

Our View: Olsen has been bad this season, so maybe there is something wrong with his shoulder. We will pass on the results of his MRI as soon as we get it, so stay tuned.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/5, 7:06 PM CT
Scott Olsen was ripped up again on Tuesday. He allowed five runs on six hits and two walks over just five innings, but did not receive a decision as the game was suspended due to rain in the 11th inning.

Our View: Olsen was good his last time out, but on Tuesday regressed back to the form that fantasy pundits are used to. His ERA is 6.54 on the season and he has allowed an astounding 54 base runners in just 31.2 innings. He's likely not even good enough for NL-only consideration.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/29, 9:52 PM CT
Scott Olsen picked up his first win of the season as the Nationals defeated Philadelphia 4-1 on Wednesday. He allowed six hits, two walks, and just one run in 5.2 innings of work. He also struck out six batters.

Our View: Pitching in Philadelphia is typically a forgettable experience, but Olsen turned into his best outing of the season. After being lit up in his first two starts, he has given up just five runs in his last 18.2 innings of work and he looks like he's worth a look in NL-only formats.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/24, 10:00 PM CT
Scott Olsen had a solid start on Friday, but his offense didn't show up as the Mets clipped the Nationals 4-3. Olsen allowed just two runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings, but fell to 0-3 on the season.

Our View: Olsen has been bad this season, but finally puts a nice start together and gets denied the win. Tough luck tonight, but expect that a lot this season as the Nationals will struggle to win games for all their starters.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/18, 4:34 PM CT
Scott Olsen stuck it to his former team on Saturday, but the bullpen caved and the Marlins topped the Nationals 9-6 in 11 innings. Olsen tossed seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits and a walk.

Our View: Olsen was shelled in his first two outings this season, but rebounded nicely today. He looked to have a promising career in his first year with the Fish, but has fallen of dramatically. He's an NL-only starter at best.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/7, 9:40 PM CT
Scott Olsen got rocked by his former team in his Washington debut on Tuesday. He lasted just three innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits in the Nats' 8-3 loss to the Marlins.

Our View: Needless to say, this isn't exactly the way Olsen pictured this start going when he circled the date for this game after he was dealt by Florida in November.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/2, 4:14 PM CT
Scott Olsen allowed nine runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings Thursday against the Phillies.

Our View: The 25-year-old lefthander topped 30 starts for the third consecutive season in 2008, but he is yet to crack 13 wins in any of his three full major league seasons. He figures to be at the front of the Nats rotation, but he will provide value in only deep NL-only leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/18, 9:20 PM CT
Scott Olsen got blasted by the Marlins on Wedneday, allowing four runs on five hits over four innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Our View: Olsen could very well be the Nationals Opening Day starter, but he has been knocked around all spring. He should get a decent amount of innings, but his numbers are average at best for a fantasy starter.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/7, 6:13 PM CT
Scott Olsen was able to pick up the win despite a poor showing against the Mets on Saturday, giving up two runs off six hits and two walks while failing to strike out a single batter in three innings of work.

Our View: Olsen could be Washington's opening day starter, although that doesn't mask the fact that he's a mediocre pitcher playing for the win-challenged Nationals.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/1, 11:26 PM CT
Scott Olsen was brilliant in two innings for the Nationals on Sunday. He managed to keep the bases clean for his entire outing while fanning a pair.

Our View: Olsen won just eight games with the Marlins last year, so there's no reason to believe that he'll win many more with the lowly Nationals.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 2/8, 6:29 PM CT
The Nationals avoided arbitration with Scott Olsen on Sunday by agreeing to a one-year, $2.8 million deal, according to the Nationals' official site.

Our View: Olsen was dealt to the Nationals on November 10th from Florida, so this will be his first year in Washington. He's been known to have a bit of a bad attitude, but managed to put up a pretty decent year in 2008 with the Marlins, going 8-11 with a 4.20 ERA in 33 starts.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 11/10, 7:17 PM CT
Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham have been dealt to the Washington Nationals, according to Fox Sports. In return, the Marlins will receive second baseman Emilio Bonifacio and a package of minor leaguers, including Class A right-hander P.J. Dean and outfielder Jake Smolinski.

Our View: Olsen is a bit of a hot-head but he was able to make 33 starts and throw 201.2 innings last season. He finished the year with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP while surrendering 30 home runs. He was 8-11.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 11/10, 10:27 AM CT
The Braves are reportedly interested in Marlins' hurler Scott Olsen, according to FishStripes.com.

Our View: The solid lefty starter has previously been talked about in potential deals with the Rangers and Indians. Olsen only won eight games over 33 starts in 2008, but maintained a decent 1.31 WHIP.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 11/4, 4:43 PM CT
Floridamarlins.com is reporting that the Marlins are said to be "aggressively" shopping 24-year-old left-hander Scott Olsen.

Our View: The Rangers and Indians are two of the teams that are believed to have interest in the young hurler.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 10/31, 1:49 PM CT
The Rangers and Indians are believed to be interested in Marlins' hurler Scott Olsen, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Our View: The Marlins still have enough favorable options to fill out their rotation if Olsen is dealt, and could add help at catcher. The Indians could part with Kelly Shoppach while the Rangers have Gerald Laird. The team is unlikely to part with Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/23, 9:34 PM CT
Marlins pitcher Scott Olsen lost his 11th game by going just five innings and allowing four runs - three earned - in Florida's 9-4 loss to the Nationals.

Our View: Olsen has numbers that aren't great, but would suggest that he has more than the eight wins he has currently accrued.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 9/18, 10:12 PM CT
Florida lefty Scott Olsen won his eighth game of the year with a seven inning performance, allowing just three hits and one run in his team's 8-1 win over Houston.

Our View: This is Olsen's second consecutive good start after an awful mid-July and August. He has average fantasy value, but would be best served in NL-only leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 9/12, 9:00 PM CT
Scott Olsen earned his seventh win of the season on Friday night while scattering 10 Nationals' baserunners in six innings of work

Our View: It was Olsen's first W since July 19. He had lost six games in between victories.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 8/31, 3:27 PM CT
Marlins pitcher Scott Olsen has had better games than the one he threw on Sunday in his team's 6-2 loss to New York. Olsen went 6.1 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, including three home runs.

Our View: Olsen gave up at least four runs in four different starts in August, and is not throwing well enough right now that fantasy owners should trust him. Olsen has a 5.81 ERA since July 4.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/20, 10:49 AM CT
Scott Olsen would like to remain with the Marlins, primarily to see how the rotation would fare over the course of an entire season, according to the Miami Herald. Olsen is one of the team's three starters eligible for arbitration after this season, and is also aware that he could be the odd man out in that group as the Marlins decide which pitchers to keep. He said, "I don't know exactly where it's going to fall. Personally, I'd like to see what us five guys could do throughout the course of a whole year together. I would just like to have one shot where we get us five guys together and see what happens."

Our View: Olsen is only 6-8 over 25 starts with a 4.03 ERA, but has a decent 1.31 WHIP.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 8/14, 8:57 PM CT
Scott Olsen threw a solid game for the Marlins, going seven innings and allowing just three runs on 10 hits while striking out six, but he took the loss as his offense failed to get him any runs. The Marlins were downed by St. Louis 3-0.

Our View: Olsen should not be someone fantasy owners can count on in mixed leagues, as he does not have enough wins or strike out enough people, but he remains a decent enough option for NL-only league players to run out there.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 8/11, 4:31 PM CT
Scott Olsen threw a bullpen session on Monday and reported little pain in his injured ankle and as a result will make his next start on Thursday, according to the Florida Sun Sentinel. "Felt fine," he said. "I'll be out there for sure."

Our View: Olsen continues to post average ratios (4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) and a middling K/9 mark (4.90), so even though it's good news that he will make his next start, it's not like you should be doing cartwheels over the fact that he will be on the hill to face the Cardinals.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 8/10, 2:17 PM CT
Scott Olsen expects to make his next start after rolling his ankle on Saturday, according to MLB.com. He said, "It's not that big of a deal right now."

Our View: His next scheduled start would be Thursday against St. Louis. The Marlins are taking a wait-and-see approach, but the training staff believes he will be fine.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 8/3, 3:59 PM CT
The lack of relief pitching might be a worry in Florida following today's collapse against the Colorado Rockies, wasting a strong effort by LHP Scott Olsen . Olsen pitched six innings, allowing just one hit with no runs, two walks, and six strikeouts.

Our View: Olsen walks with no decision and a 3.87 ERA after his relief support surrendered one run in each of the final three innings to take the fall. It is not the first time the Marlins have seen a good pitching effort go to waste this season, reminding the fans in Florida that challenges lay in wait as we look towards the playoff stretch.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/29, 9:21 PM CT
Scott Olsen threw well but suffered his sixth loss of the season after allowing two earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings against New York.

Our View: Olsen struck out five, and saw his ERA jump over 4.00 for the first time since April 9. Still, he remains a decent fantasy option in NL-only leagues.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/24, 10:34 PM CT
Scott Olsen was rocked for six earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: He had a two-game winning streak snapped, and allowed two homers tonight, pushing his season total to 21 over 21 starts.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/9, 5:26 PM CT
Scott Olsen allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out three, and the Florida Marlins defeated the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View: Olsen earned his fifth victory against four losses in his eight inning quality start.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/24, 10:02 PM CT
Scott Olsen gave up just two earned runs over seven innings but left without a victory for the ninth straight game dating back to May 6.

Our View: The young lefty has a 3.44 ERA but a mere 4-4 record for the second place Marlins.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/12, 9:44 PM CT
Scott Olsen allowed two runs, one earned, in picking up his third loss of the season on Thursday. Olsen walked only one with seven strikeouts, but he faced a hot Jamie Moyer who pitched a shutout for eight innings.

Our View: Oslen has looked good as new his last two starts with 12 K and only two BB allowing just one earned run in 13 innings as he appears to have overcome the dead arm issues he was dealing with.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/7, 10:10 PM CT
Scott Olsen held the Reds without an earned run over six innings though he wasn't involved in the decision.

Our View: Olsen wasn't great on the night as he actually allowed four runs to score, but he only allowed four hits and a walk while nailing down five strike outs in a solid overall effort.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/7, 7:16 PM CT
Scott Olsen is finally getting his "stuff" back even though he had a rough start last time out against the Braves, according to MLB.com. Olsen's fastball hit 92 in that outing, and his slider had more bite than he has been getting earlier in the year.

Our View: Olsen had been throwing in the 85-88 range for most of the early going, so it's very encouraging to hear that his fastball had that extra little giddy up. He'll need to bring his K-rate back up (4.32 per 9) while drastically cutting his walks (3.96 per 9), or it won't matter.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 6:44 PM CT
The Marlins have been concerned with Scott Olsen's lack of velocity in recent starts, but the lefty's velocity was better in Monday's start. He had been topping out at 85 lately, but Monday he was averaging 88 MPH and touched 92. "I felt good. My fastball was coming out pretty well," Olsen said on MLB.com. Olsen's slider was also much improved Monday after pitching coach Mark Wiley detected something in the southpaw's delivery before the game, which was corrected.

Our View: Olsen is off to a nice start this year despite a big drop in his strikeout rate. Keep an eye on those radar gun readings to make sure he doesn't go through another "dead arm" period.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/29, 7:14 AM CT
Scott Olsen is having velocity problems with his pitches, according to FishStripes.com. He struggled to get his fastball above 85 mph in last night's loss to the Mets, and the play-by-play announcer actually mistaken his fastball for a changeup on one occasion, which clocked at only 83 mph.

Our View: Olsen is 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, but could be in trouble if he loses any more speed on his fastball. Hopefully, it was just an off night for him.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/17, 9:40 PM CT
Scott Olsen allowed three runs on seven hits, walked five (two intentionally) and struck out three in a no-decision on Saturday night.

Our View: Olsen wasn't sharp in his effort but kept his team in the game until the offense unloaded in the seventh inning.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/14, 9:11 AM CT
Scott Olsen threw in the bullpen on Tuesday and tell the Miami Herald that his arm is okay. "It feels fine," Olsen claims. "I wasn't trying to crank it up. But the ball was coming out of my hand good, and I could tell there was a little bit of life on it." The southpaw only hit around 87 or 88 mph during his start on Sunday.

Our View: Olsen's next start should be quite telling. If he is chucking in the low-90s, we can chalk up that last issue to some fatigue. If he's back around 87, fantasy owners should be very concerned.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsMonday 5/12, 7:37 PM CT
Scott Olsen has some pretty ratios (2.63 ERA, 1.08 WHIP), but the truth is there are concerns with the big lefties arm, according to MLB.com. In his last start Olsen did not break 87 mph on the gun and he was pulled after just 59 pitches. Olsen says he is fine and that he hopes, hopes, he is just experiencing dead arm. "I hope so. That would give me a little peace of mind..."I don't think I've thrown that slow since I was like 13 years old."

Our View: There is simply no way that Olsen will be able to finish with the ratios he currently possesses, none. So it might be wise to move him to an inexperienced owner who doesn't look deeper than surface stats, especially with the news that his velocity is down.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/6, 10:16 PM CT
Florida LHP Scott Olsen continues to shine for the Marlins, picking up his fourth win of the season in leading Florida to 3-0 shutout victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Olsen pitched 8 2/3 innings, failing to allow a single run on just two hits surrendered. He walked four, struck out eight, and completely dominated the Brewers' lineup from top to bottom.

Our View: This is Olsen's first win since he racked up three consecutive victories in mid-April, and it easily ranks as his best to date.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/30, 10:09 PM CT
Scott Olsen allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings to pick up his first loss of the season on Wednesday night.

Our View: Olsen struck out only two batters on the night and now has just 15 in 40 IP, a K/9 of 3.38, less than half of his career mark of 7.22. Pitchers who are 24 and not coming off surgery don't reinvent themselves as control artists, so the lack of punchouts might signal that there is something physically wrong with the tall left hander.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/25, 11:22 PM CT
Florida's Scott Olsen allowed just four hits but walked five in 7.1 innings of work on Friday night. The left-hander, who had won his last three starts, received a no-decision for his efforts.

Our View: Olsen doesn't offer much in the way of strike outs, but he pounds the strike zone and pitches to contact inducing ground balls. The young left-hander has total command of his arsenal at this point and looks to be a good source of wins, ERA and WHIP for fantasy owners.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/25, 3:45 PM CT
Scott Olsen will be eyeing a 4-0 start when he takes the hill against the Brewers tonight, according to MLB.com. He holds a 2.60 ERA and a excellent 0.98 WHIP over 27.2 innings, with 13 strikeouts. For his career, Olsen is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA in three games against Milwaukee.

Our View: Olsen is proving to be a fantasy steal, and his stock remains on the rise.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsSunday 4/20, 3:12 PM CT
Scott Olsen remains unbeaten at 3-0 this season, as he only allowed one run on three hits over seven innings of work against Washington in Sunday's 6-1 win, with two walks and three strikeouts. He notably trimmed his season ERA down to 2.60.

Our View: This was another strong outing for him, and his fantasy stock has risen a bit more.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/15, 10:28 PM CT
Young LHP Scott Olsen pitched a gem of a game in leading his Florida Marlins against the Atlanta Braves, pulling a 0-4 win. Olsen pitched seven full innings, giving up no runs on five hits with no walks surrendered and three strike outs on the evening.

Our View: Even more impressive, Olsen threw just 83 total pitches and made 61 count for strikes.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/15, 3:07 PM CT
Scott Olsen is set to take the hill against Atlanta tonight, a team he has a poor track record against, according to MLB.com. Olsen is 1-4 with a 8.54 ERA over eight career outings against Atlanta.

Our View: He has allowed seven runs over 13.2 innings this season, and ranks as an unfavorable fantasy option for tonight.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/9, 9:55 PM CT
The Nationals did a poor job of situational hitting on Wednesday night, their problem during their six game losing streak. The Nats have left the bases loaded nine times this season. Scott Olsen who picked up the win in the Marlins 10-4 victory went 7 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned),four hits and four walks. Olsen hasn't been the same since injuring himself in 2006, and while tonight's effort resulted in a win, he wasn't impressive in the outing. Scott Olsen is ready to make his season debut on Friday. He missed most of spring training due to shoulder tendinitis and is dealing with bone spurs in his elbow. "Bone spurs have never bothered me, and I still got it," Olsen tells the Miami Herald. "They say you can throw with it. The team gave me an option in 2005 if I wanted to have surgery or not. I asked them if I could throw with [bone spurs], and they said many guys have them and throw with them. I feel fine with my shoulder and elbow." Fantasy owners should avoid Olsen until he proves he's healthy and ready to work with some consistency.

Scott Olsen has a case of shoulder tendinitis that will keep him from making his scheduled start on Wednesday, this according to the Sun-Sentinel. Olsen will likely sit out for 2-3 days before he resumes his throwing. This is believed to be a minor case of tendinitis that just needs a couple of days to calm down, so the prognosis is good for Olsen who is looking to make his way back from a hideous 2007 campaign (5.81 ERA, 1.76 WHIP).

Scott Olsen will start the Marlins' first spring training game Wednesday. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll get the ball on opening day, though. "That's not necessarily the case," manager Fredi Gonzalez said in the AP. "We could tweak that later on any way we want to." Sergio Mitre is the team's other opening day option. "Obviously I want to start opening day," Olsen said. "I'm not the only one. It can be taken away and it hasn’t been given to me." Olsen had a disappointing 2007 season, posting a 5.81 ERA, but with Dontrelle Willis out of the picture, he seems like the logical candidate to start the opener.

Scott Olsen hopes that all the work he has done of late will help to erase any felony charges that have been filed against him for the DUI and resisting arrest incident last season. "We anticipate that all felony charges against Scott will be dismissed this month,'' his attorney, Lawrence Reynoso, said. Hopefully with that situation settled Olsen can get back to being the promising pitcher he appeared to be after posting 166 K and a 1.30 ERA in 2006 and not the horrible performer who lost 15 games with a 5.81 ERA and 1.76 WHIP last season.
