Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 3/16, 2:29 PM CT
Jon Lester was pretty solid against Houston on Tuesday, allowing one run off three hits and two walks with two strikeout over four innings.

Our View: Lester hasn't been too sharp in spring so far but did look pretty good today. Still, regardless of how he fares in spring, he's proven himself over the past few seasons as one of the better young pitchers in the game, so continue to draft him as such.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/5, 3:08 PM CT
Jon Lester had a rough spring training outing against the Twins on Friday, surrendering four runs and two walks in just one inning of action.

Our View: Hopefully he can get a little more stretched out his next time on the hill.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 10/9, 7:26 PM CT
According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox are considering pitching Jon Lester on short rest if they can force a a Game 4 in the ALDS.

Our View: Lester pitched very well in Game 1 aside from the three-run homer he served up to Torii Hunter, and threw around 100 pitches. Manager Terry Francona says that ideally he would go in Game 4 and if it came down to it they would use Josh Beckett once again in Game 5. Looks like they're straying from having to pitch Dice-K.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/8, 11:59 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed only four hits in six innings on Thursday, but unfortunately for Boston, one of them was a three-run Torii Hunter home run. Boston would go on to lose 5-0 in Anaheim.

Our View: The strikeout artist struck out five. Boston will now turn to Josh Beckett on Friday to try and even the series at 1-1.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 10/4, 8:29 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have named Jon Lester as the Game 1 starter for the AL Division series.

Our View: Lester will be followed by Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz in Games 2 and 3, but the Sox did not announce who would go in Game 4 (if necessary). Dice-K is the obvious option, but if Lester dominates in the opening game he could be brought back on short rest. The Angels will combat that order with John Lackey, Jared Weaver, Scott Kazmir and Joe Saunders respectively.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/1, 9:08 PM CT
After being forced out of his last start with a knee injury, Jon Lester threw six shutout innings on Thursday, picking up his 15th win, as Boston blanked the Indians 3-0.

Our View: Lester finishes 2009 with a 15-8 record, 3.41 ERA and 225 strikeouts in 203 innings pitched. He is now unquestionably one of the best left-handed pitchers in all of baseball.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/29, 10:17 AM CT
MLB.com reports that starter Jon Lester has been cleared to make his next start on Thursday. He threw a successful side session on Monday while recovering from a line drive that hit him in his right knee on Friday night.

Our View: Francona nad Lester both expressed plenty of confidence after the side session, so it sounds like there's no reason to be concerned. Lester remains a good start as this will be his final tune up before throwing Game 1 of the ALDS for the Red Sox.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/28, 4:40 PM CT
Jon Lester, who is recovering from a knee injury, threw a bullpen session Monday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Lester reportedly looked good during his session, without any issues regarding his right plant leg. The Sox are hopeful that the young hurler will be able to take the hill for Thursday's scheduled start against Cleveland.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 9/26, 9:42 AM CT
Jon Lester is day-to-day with a knee injury and is expected to make his next scheduled start against the Indians on Thursday, according to MLB.com. Lester was roughed up by the Yankees on Friday and taken out of the game after being hit in the knee by a Melky Cabrera line drive.

Our View: Lester owners, and to an even greater extent, Red Sox fans, can breathe a collective sigh of relief. Lester's injury looked like it had the potential to put his playoff availability in doubt, but Boston was able to dodge a bullet. He appears healthy and makes for a fine play next week in his final regular season start against the Indians.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/25, 10:23 PM CT
Jon Lester was rocked for five earned runs on eight hits over 2.1 innings in Friday's 9-5 loss at New York. He had three walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: As previously reported, he was forced to exit early after being struck on the right knee by a Melky Cabrera line drive. Lester was credited with the loss, and fell to 14-8. The young hurler was 4-0 over his previous four starts this month.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/25, 8:11 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Jon Lester's X-rays came back negative, according to Tyler Kepner's (New York Times) twitter page.

Our View: Lester was struck on the right knee by a Melky Cabrera line drive in the third inning of tonight's game against the Yankees, but only sustained a contusion, and is considered day-to-day.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/25, 7:32 PM CT
Jon Lester exited tonight's start against the rival Yankees in the third inning after being struck on the right knee by a Melky Cabrera line drive, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Lester fell to the ground in pain, and was assisted off the field. His injury status is yet to be updated.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 9/19, 9:44 PM CT
Jon Lester got another win Saturday despite not having his best stuff. He allowed three runs on ten hits over six innings in Boston's 11-5 blowout of the Orioles.

Our View: Lester only struck out four in this one, his lowest total in a game since July 30, but he didn't walk a batter (a feat he's accomplished five times this season) and improved to 14-7.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 9/13, 8:01 PM CT
Jon Lester dominated the Rays on Sunday with eight shutout innings in Boston's 4-0 win. He allowed just two hits and three free passes while striking out seven en route to his 13th win of the season.

Our View: Lester now has eight quality starts in a row and has baffled opposing hitters with regularity since the beginning of June. He has now won his last five decisions and has his ERA down to a sterling 3.29.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/11, 9:08 PM CT
Tonight's game between the Rays and Red Sox at Fenway Park has been postponed due to rain, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 9/6, 5:35 PM CT
Jon Lester struck out eight in seven shutout innings on Sunday, as the Red Sox handled the White Sox 6-1 in Chicago.

Our View: Lester is now 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two September starts.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/2, 9:18 AM CT
Jon Lester mildly "tweaked" his groin in his win over the Rays on Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The hard-throwing lefty has already said that he does not expect to miss any starts, however. In 27 starts this season, he is 11-7 with a 3.58 ERA and 196 strikeouts.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/1, 11:01 PM CT
Jon Lester only surrendered two earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Tuesday's 8-4 win at Tampa Bay. He had two walks and racked up nine strikeouts.

Our View: Lester allowed two or less earned runs in four of his last six starts. He should remain a solid hurler down the stretch for fantasy owners.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/25, 9:43 PM CT
Jon Lester gave up three earned runs on four hits over 6.2 innings in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the White Sox at Fenway Park. He had two walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Chicago was leading 3-2 when Lester exited, so he ends the night with a no-decision rather than a win. Lester had a decent outing, and allowed one earned run in three of his last five starts, meaning he should continue to pitch well for fantasy owners.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/20, 8:54 PM CT
Jon Lester was in control from the hill in Thursday's 8-1 win at Toronto, as he only issued one earned run on three hits over eight innings. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Lester claimed his 10th win of 2009, and trimmed his ERA to 3.58. He only allowed one earned run in three of his last four starts, but earned his first win over that span tonight.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 8/14, 10:54 PM CT
Jon Lester gave up three earned runs on six hits over six innings in Friday's 8-4 win at Texas. He had three walks and racked up 11 strikeouts.

Our View: The Sox were trailing 3-2 when Lester exited the game, so he ends the night with a no-decision rather than a win. Lester has not taken a loss over his last five starts, and should remain active in fantasy lineups for his next turn in Boston's rotation.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 8/9, 10:42 PM CT
Jon Lester only surrendered one earned run on five hits over seven innings in Sunday's 5-2 loss at rival New York. He issued no walks and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Lester had a strong outing, but was dealt a no-decision due to a lack of run support from his teammates. He has only allowed one earned run in back-to-back starts, and should remain active in fantasy lineups for his next trip to the hill.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/4, 11:31 PM CT
Jon Lester only surrendered one earned run on three hits over six innings in Tuesday's 4-2 loss at Tampa Bay. He issued two walks and racked up 10 strikeouts. The battle took 13 innings to decide a winner.

Our View: The Sox were leading 2-0 when Lester exited, so he takes a no-decision rather than a loss. He pitched well tonight, and allowed two or less earned runs in five of his last seven starts. Keep the young hurler active in fantasy lineups for his next turn in Boston's rotation.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 8/2, 8:43 AM CT
Jon Lester was bumped up a day in Boston's rotation, swapping spots with Brad Penny and now due to start Tuesday at Tampa Bay instead of Wednesday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The move gives Lester a second start on the week and allows him to pitch in the team's four-game series against the Yankees. Still, the fantasy implications here are minimal, as Lester was a must-play regardless, while Penny probably should have been avoided despite the original two-start status, and now certainly should not be played.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 7/30, 4:10 PM CT
Jon Lester did not factor into the decision on Thursday in the Red Sox' 8-5 win over the A's. Lester went 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out two.

Our View: This was a very disappointing outing for Lester, who was up against a very mediocre A's lineup at home. The four runs aren't terrible, but only two strikeouts has to make this a letdown for Lester owners. He has been great over the last two months, and even guys like Lester are allowed a start like this every once in awhile. Expect him to come out firing in his next start.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 7/25, 11:03 PM CT
Jon Lester held the Orioles to just two runs on eight hits and two walks over 7.1 innings on Saturday. He earned his ninth win and struck out nine as the Sox won 7-2.

Our View: Lester has been brilliant since May 31st after a horrible start to the season. He has now rattled off six straight quality starts and is racking up strikeouts like they're going out of style.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 7/19, 2:30 PM CT
Jon Lester had a solid outing on Sunday, striking out six Blue Jays in seven innings, but took his seventh loss as Boston fell 3-1 in Toronto.

Our View: After a bad start to 2009, Lester has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since May 31, and after having a huge second half in 2008, seems poised to continue his tear through the end of the season.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 7/10, 9:29 PM CT
Jon Lester only surrendered four hits over eight scoreless innings in Friday's close 1-0 win over the Royals at Fenway Park. He had two walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: Lester is 3-0 over his last four starts, and allowed one or less earned runs in each of his last three. The rising star shall remain active in fantasy leagues for his next turn in Boston's rotation.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 7/5, 4:37 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits over 6.2 innings in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Mariners at Fenway Park. He issued three walks and racked up nine strikeouts.

Our View: Lester did not earn a win and gave up three walks, but at least he was a solid contributor in the strikeouts department for fantasy owners. Though he wasn't great on the day, Lester did drop his ERA to 4.16, the seventh straight game that number has gone down.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 6/29, 9:06 PM CT
Jon Lester only allowed five hits over seven scoreless innings in Monday's 4-0 win at Baltimore. He issued no walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: The rising star now has a winning record at 7-6, and has given up two or less earned runs in five of his last six outings.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/24, 9:30 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed three earned runs on six hits over six innings in Wednesday's 6-4 win at Washington. He had two walks and fired six strikeouts.

Our View: It was not a strong outing for Lester while facing one of the worst teams in the majors, but his teammates provided enough offensive support for him to even his record to 6-6. He is 2-1 over four starts in June.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 6/18, 10:56 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed two earned runs on eight hits over five innings in Thursday's 2-1 loss to Florida at Fenway Park. He had no walks and four strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View: Lester was dealt a loss, and now has a losing record at 5-6. The game was called in the sixth inning due to rain. He has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last four starts, and should remain active in fantasy leagues.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 6/12, 10:20 PM CT
Jon Lester was solid in Friday's 5-2 win at Philadelphia, as he only allowed one earned run on two hits over seven innings. He had two walks and 11 strikeouts.

Our View: He held a 2-1 lead when he exited, but the Phillies tied the game at 2-2 in the ninth inning, leaving Lester with a no-decision. The game took 13 innings to decide. He did not claim a win, but fanatsy owners should still be pleased with his outing tonight.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 6/6, 9:07 PM CT
Jon Lester put together an astounding performance on Saturday in the Red Sox' 8-1 win over the Rangers. Lester threw a complete game and allowed one run on two hits while walking two and striking out 11.

Our View: Lester took a perfect game into the seventh inning tonight, and in his last two starts he has given up two runs in 15 innings while striking out 23 during that time. It looks like he has everything figured out, and he should be considered one of the top fantasy options for the rest of the season.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 6/1, 8:34 AM CT
The Boston Herald is reporting that Jon Lester feels like he is heading in the right direction after his 12 strikeout performance on Sunday. Lester feels like he has been trying to do too much, which may be the reason he has underachieved so far in 2009.

Our View: Whatever the problem was, it sure looked to be fixed yesterday. In addition to striking out 12 in just six innings, Lester limited the Jays to one run on only three hits. He has been infuriating fantasy owners this season, but when he puts it all together, like he did yesterday, he is elite. Now he just needs to be consistent.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/31, 3:32 PM CT
Jon Lester was outstanding on Sunday as he picked up the win for the Red Sox. Lester went six innings and allowed one run on three hits while walking three and striking out 12.

Our View: This is what Lester owners have been expecting to see all year. 12 K's it amazing for a guy who only went six innings, but it just goes to show you how good he really is. Hopefully he uses this start as a springboard for the rest of the season, because he has the stuff to do this every time out.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 5/26, 10:31 PM CT
Jon Lester had one rough inning on Tuesday, and it proved to be his downfall as he fell to the Twins 5-2. Lester went six innings and allowed five runs (all in the fifth)on six hits while walking three and striking out four.

Our View: Lester has been wildly inconsistent this season, and he is driving his fantasy owners crazy. He has all of the tools to be one of the better pitchers in baseball, but he isn't showing it every night out. Stick with him, and hope he finds a way to put it all together.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 5/21, 10:27 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed just one run on eight hits and two walks over 6.1 innings in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jays. Lester upped his win total to three.

Our View: Lester has been in a funk this season, but Thursday's outing was a good sign. He looked sharp, and while he only struck out four, his walks were limited and he kept the ball in the yard. Expect him to build off of this, as he is a very talented young pitcher.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/9, 6:56 PM CT
Jon Lester got rocked on Saturday as he allowed eight runs on ten hits and a walk over just 4.1 innings. He took his third loss of the season as the Sox got blasted by the Rays 14-5.

Our View: Lester has one thing going for him this season, his K/9. Other than that he's been a miserable starter. Many people expected bug things from this young hurler, but he has not been on his game at all this season. His 6.31 ERA will attest to that.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 4/24, 11:26 PM CT
Jon Lester pitched very well on Friday but did not factor into the decision as the Red Sox came back to beat the Yankees in ten innings. Lester went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Lester pitched well, but his bullpen didn't help him out much. The team still pulled out the victory, but Lester didn't factor into the decision. Another decent start for Lester is good news for owners, so expect him to keep getting better.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/19, 3:45 PM CT
Jon Lester got back on track Sunday, picking up a win over Baltimore after seven scoreless innings with four hits, two walks and nine strikeouts.

Our View: Lester's fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief. He had gotten rocked in each of his first two starts but was back to top form on Sunday; hopefully you didn't deal him away when his value almost certainly the lowest it'll be all year.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/14, 12:11 AM CT
Jon Lester went six innings while allowing 10 hits, including two home runs, and six earned runs as Oakland beat Boston 8-2 on Monday. He struck out five in the outing.

Our View: Lester has simply been very hittable through two starts. He has allowed 18 hits in 11 innings while surrendering 11 earned runs. A lot of fantasy hopes have been tied to the young southpaw, but his start this season has been a severe disappointment.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 4/8, 9:41 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed five runs over five innings on Wednesday as the Red Sox fell to the Rays 7-2. He was touched for eight hits, walked a pair of batters and was handed his first loss of the season.

Our View: ESPN's Peter Gammons recently said that he thinks Jon Lester is the best pitcher in the American League and that he's not alone in thinking that. Well, he certainly didn't show it in his first start of 2009. He was very good last year, but he'll have to do a lot better this season to live up to Gammons' hype.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 4/3, 10:39 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed one run on three hits in four innings against the Mets at Citi Field on Friday.

Our View: Though he allowed just the one run, Lester was uncharacteristically wild, walking five batters and needing nearly 85 pitches to get through four innings.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/29, 3:19 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed one earned run on six hits over five innings in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Phillies, with four walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Lester is slated to hold the No. 2 spot in the rotation behind Josh Beckett. He should be a solid fantasy starter, but may leave a little bit to be desired in ths strikeouts department.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 3/24, 8:54 PM CT
Hurler Jon Lester tossed 91 pitches in a minor league outing on Tuesday. He allowed 10 hits and four runs, but the key was to get in extended work. "You don't have the intensity that you would normally for a game, but you know you have to put that aside and get your work done," Lester informs the Boston Globe. "It was a struggle today, but I got up and down six times, got my pitch count up, so I've got to look at it that way. I can't look at the results and worry about all that."

Our View: As with Lester, we're not too worried about the results. The lefty will have two more spring outings to correct his glitches and get ready for the real thing.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 3/19, 10:02 PM CT
Jon Lester remained sharp this spring while throwing 4.1 innings and allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in Thursday's 9-1 win over the Reds. He struck out six in the outing.

Our View: Lester was able to regain his velocity and control last season and he was a very effective pitcher because of it. In 10.2 innings this spring, he has allowed just two earned runs while striking out 11.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/15, 10:56 AM CT
The Red Sox officially announced their five-year contract extension with left-handed starter Jon Lester on Sunday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but at least one other source is reporting it is worth $30 million with a $13 million team option for 2014.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 3/14, 8:54 AM CT
Jon Lester has been scratched from today's start with Baltimore, and he will instead pitch in an intrasquad game at the minor league facility in advance of an announcement regarding the pitcher tomorrow, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Lester will be taking a physical this weekend to finalize his five-year deal with the Red Sox worth $30MM. Lester should be a solid starting pitcher in fantasy leagues this season, but his strikeout totals may leave a bit to be desired.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/13, 12:31 PM CT
Jon Lester is slated to take a physical this weekend, according to the Boston Globe. If he passes, his new five-year, $30 million contract will become official.

Our View: The Sox were smart to lock up Lester early. He was an exceptional fantasy starter last year and all signs point to him getting even better. Lester shined down the stretch posting a 2.95 ERA after the All Star break, pitched phenomenally at home and should have no trouble racking up wins with the lineup behind him. If you can snag him on draft day, do so. He won't last too long.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 3/9, 5:05 PM CT
Jon Lester didn't look so hot for Boston just one day after signing a new contract with the Red Sox. He allowed four runs on a walk and four hits in 2.1 innings. However, only one of the runs was earned and he struck out a pair.

Our View: Lester went 16-6 last year with a 3.21 ERA and we think that the best is yet to come. He should be expected to win at least 15 games again in 2008 and could approach 200 strikeouts after fanning 152 in 2008.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/8, 12:51 PM CT
Jon Lester has agreed to a five-year extension with the Red Sox worth $30MM, according to Yahoo Sports. The deal includes a $13MM club option for 2014.

Our View: Lester is off to a strong start in the spring, as he is yet to allow a run over two outings. Lester is worth drafting highly as one of the better left-handed starting pitchers in the American League after a season of 210.1 innings and 16 victories.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 3/3, 3:48 PM CT
Jon Lester threw two hitless innings in Tuesday's 9-8 loss to the Reds, with two strikeouts on no walks.

Our View: He is off to a strong start, as he is yet to allow a run over two spring outings.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 2/26, 4:49 PM CT
Jon Lester threw well in his first outing of the spring Thursday against the Pirates. In two innings of work, he allowed two hits and struck out a man while keeping the Bucs off the scoreboard.

Our View: With a top-notch rotation in place, the Red Sox don't necessarily need Lester to exceed last year's numbers, so anything more than 16 wins and an ERA below 3.50 will be a fantastic bonus that could make the rotation truly dominant.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 2/21, 9:51 AM CT
The Boston Red Sox and starting pitcher Jon Lester are considering negotiating a long-term deal, Joe Haggerty, of the Boston Metro, reports. "It's one of those deals where hopefully when and if they approach me we can work something out to not only be a Red Sox for the next four or five years, but for my whole career," Lester said.

Our View: A long-term deal for Lester would be similar to the four-year, $30 million contract Angels starter Ervin Santana recently signed. It is believed Lester is seeking at least a five-year deal.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 1/21, 8:32 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Red Sox starter Jon Lester was named as the recipient of the Hutch Award, which is given every year to the Major League Baseball player who best exemplifies the dedication to team, family, and community and best symbolizes the honor, courage, and perseverance of former big-league pitcher and manager Fred Hutchinson, after whom the award is named.

Our View: Hutchinson, who coached in a World Series with the Reds in 1961, died of cancer at age 45 in 1964. His brother, Bill, founded the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, which is now known throughout the world for its leading research. Less than nine months after being diagnosed with anaplastic large-cell lymphoma, Lester entered Spring Training with the Red Sox in the spring of 2007 after undergoing extensive chemotherapy at the Hutchinson Center.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 12/5, 10:40 AM CT
The Red Sox would like to sign Jon Lester to a long-term deal, according to ESPN.

Our View: The club recently inked Dustin Pedroia to a long-term deal. Boston also wants to lock up Kevin Youkilis for the long-term, and his deal could come before Lester's.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 10/19, 10:54 PM CT
Jon Lester struck out eight hitters through seven innings but he also surrendered three runs in Boston's final game of 2008, a 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 7.

Our View: Lester had been the recipient of a lot of hype this postseason after an excellent ALDS. However, his ALCS was mostly forgettable as he loss twice to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 10/18, 7:10 PM CT
Jon Lester is prepared to start Game 7 if Boston can stay alive in tonight's Game 6 against the Rays, trailing in the series 3-2, according to the AP. Lester said, "You can’t get your emotions one way or another. You have to wait and see and, hopefully, we can pull it off and then come tomorrow, turn the switch on, and go get them. I’ve done the same workouts, and done everything that I normally do in between starts. It’s just a matter of mentally staying focused enough to come out and pitch a good game."

Our View: Lester would be opposed by Matt Garza if there is a Game 7. Lester would be looking to redeem himself after allowing five runs in Game Three's loss.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 10/13, 7:07 PM CT
Red Sox hurler Jon Lester was hammered by the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the ALCS, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings.

Our View: Boston manager Terry Francona set it up so Lester would be available to pitch a potential Game 7. For the Sox to win, they will have to at least go six games, so Lester may get a shot at redemption in the series.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 10/6, 11:11 PM CT
Jon Lester dominated the Angels for seven scoreless innings though his reward was a no-decision. However, the Red Sox came back to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, 3-2, to move on the the ALCS against the Rays.

Our View: The matchup everyone wanted to see will occur. The Rays can't be looking forward to facing Lester who simply pounded the strike zone tonight in a dominating effort as he outpitched John Lackey for the second time in the series.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/2, 12:26 AM CT
Jon Lester was exceptional in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Angels. He allowed one unearned run over seven innings while striking out seven. The Red Sox have now defeated the Angels 10 straight times in the postseason.

Our View: Lester seemed to get even better as the game went on and made analyst Dennis Eckersley look like a genius. Eck had said throughout pregame coverage that Lester, not Beckett, was the best pitcher on the Red Sox.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/29, 1:26 PM CT
Jon Lester has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for September, according to the AP. Lester went 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 28 strikeouts over five starts in the month.

Our View: With Josh Beckett ailing, Lester is set to take the hill in Game 1 of the divisional series against the Angels.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 9/25, 9:06 PM CT
Jon Lester threw six innings of one-run ball on Thursday against Cleveland. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Our View: It's been a great season for Lester who moves to 16-6 with a 3.21 ERA. He has thrown 210.1 innings in 32 starts. Years like this scream for attention in fantasy leagues.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 9/20, 2:53 PM CT
Jon Lester went seven innings, but gave up five earned runs on eight hits and saw his record fall to 15-6 as the Red Sox fell to Toronto, 6-3.

Our View: Lester had been brilliant in September, having won all three of his starts with an ERA under 1.00, and that pace could not have held up all month. Nonetheless, he has been a great option for fantasy owners all year.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 9/14, 5:31 PM CT
Jon Lester dominated the Blue Jays on Sunday hurling eight spectacular innings in which he allowed only a solo home run to Jose Batista as he improved to 15-5.

Our View: With the outing, his 31st start, Lester lowered his ERA to 3.15, a great number for an AL hurler. This marks the fifth time in six games that he has allowed one or zero runs as he is clearly proving that despite all the innings (197.1) that he still has a lot left in that left arm of his.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/8, 10:09 PM CT
Jon Lester collected his 14th win of the season Monday, pitching 7.2 innings of shutout ball as the Red Sox beat the Rays 3-0.

Our View: Another huge performance from the outstanding young southpaw. Lester struck out nine and walked three while only allowing six hits.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/2, 10:41 PM CT
Jon Lester won his 13th game of the year, allowing one run in five innings, though he did walk four batters as the Red Sox slaughtered the Orioles, 14-2.

Our View: Lester has been a steady presence in the Boston rotation the entire year, and his ERA dropped to 3.37.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/28, 3:58 PM CT
Jon Lester came into today's match-up against the Yankees with a record of 2-0 and an ERA of 1.13 and today wasn't much different. In Lester's 6.2 innings he only gave up one run while striking out eight.

Our View: Lester has been a viable starter for the Red Sox this year and definitely warrants being on your Fantasy Roster.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/28, 10:25 AM CT
Today the Red Sox will try and sweep a three game series with the Yankees and most likely sweep them right out the playoff picture. Jon Lester will go for the Sox today and he has absolutely owned the Yankees this year. Lester is 2-0 against the Yanks with an ERA of 1.13.

Our View: Lester is looking to rebound from a couple of rough outings but the Yankees might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/23, 3:53 PM CT
Jon Lester was rocked for seven earned runs on eight hits over a mere 2.1 innings of work in Saturday's 11-0 loss to the Jays, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Lester falls to 12-5 and his ERA jumps to 3.49. His two-game winning streak was snapped, and this was only the second time over his last seven starts that he surrendered four or more earned runs. Lester should bounce back fine and should continue to be trusted in fantasy lineups.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 8/18, 9:58 PM CT
Jon Lester picked up his 12th win Monday, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings.

Our View: Clay Buchholz received most of the ink before the season as far as young Red Sox rookies go, but Lester has been far and away the better hurler of the two this year.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/13, 9:49 PM CT
Boston's Jon Lester is quickly becoming the gem of the franchise, tonight earning his 11th win in a dominating performance against the Texas Rangers. Lester pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: Lester moves to 11-4 on the season with a 3.25 ERA. The loss in his last outing is the only blemish on his '08 resume since May 25th, boasting a record of 8-1 since.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 8/8, 10:09 PM CT
Jon Lester lost his first game in almost two and a half months as he allowed four runs to the White Sox over seven innings on Friday.

Our View: Lester is now 10-4 with a 3.23 ERA, so we can overlook this rather pedestrian outing. Lester has clearly established himself as one of the top lefties in the American League even as his strikeout rates continues along at a merely average level of six per nine innings.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 8/4, 3:38 PM CT
Jon Lester has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for July, according to the AP. Lester went 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA over four starts in the month.

Our View: Lester hasn't lost a start since May 25, and is 10-3 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.31 WHIP for the season. Other nominees for the July honor were Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, and closer Francisco Rodriguez.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/2, 9:18 PM CT
Jon Lester only issued two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Saturday's 12-2 blowout win over Oakland at Fenway Park, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: Lester has won three straight decisions, and has 10 wins for the season. He hasn't been dealt a loss since May 25th, and should remain a strong fantasy starter down the stretch.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 7/27, 10:54 PM CT
Jon Lester recorded eight strikeouts in seven innings of two-run ball against the Yankess on Sunday night. He scattered right hits and pitched himself out of jams throughout the game.

Our View: Lester has pitched exceptionally well in three of his last four starts and his ERA stands at an impressive 3.16. He is 6-0 over his last nine outings. Expect him to pile up more wins down the stretch.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 7/22, 12:14 AM CT
Jon Lester tossed 7.1 scoreless innings against the Mariners on Monday night and improved to 8-3. The southpaw allowed eight hits, walked none, and struck out six.

Our View: It helps that the Mariners are impatient and inopportune hitters. Lester has had a couple rough outings recently, but, in general, he continues to be very impressive and worth using in all fantasy formats.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 7/4, 11:58 AM CT
Red Sox manager Terry Francona says that Jon Lester is a pitcher who can throw a lot of innings, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Lester has already thrown 117.2 innings this season, but they have been great. Fantasy owners aren't complaining, not with his 7-3 record and 3.21 ERA. Red Sox fans may not be in love with the idea of him going so many innings, however.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 7/3, 10:51 PM CT
Jon Lester performed like an ace on Thursday night pitching a complete game 7-0 victory over division rival New York. The left allowed five hits, walked two and struck out eight in his seventh win of the year.

Our View: The winning performance was easily his best since the no-hitter against the Royals in May.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 6/28, 9:55 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed six runs on nine hits, walked none and struck out three over five innings in an 11-10 loss to Houston. The six runs are the most the Boston left-hander had given up in a single game over his first 17 starts.

Our View: Lester was also hit in the ankle by a come-backer from Miguel Tejada. The lefty stayed in the game only to surrender a three-run home run to the next hitter, ex-teammate Mark Loretta. Lester pitched another 2.1 innings after taking the batted ball and should be available for his next start.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 6/28, 11:12 AM CT
The Boston Red Sox will send Jon Lester cover mound duties this evening as they face the Houston Astros, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Lester, who is 6-3 with a 3.13 earned run average on the year, received a no-decision on Sunday against St. Louis, despite a pretty solid outing. Lester surrendered a pair of runs and nine hits in 7 1/3 innings of Boston's 5-3 win. Over his last four starts (3-0), spanning 27 2/3, Lester has given up just five runs.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 6/22, 6:34 PM CT
Jon Lester picked up a no-decision on Sunday though he looked solid against the Cardinals allowing just two runs over 7.1 innings. Lester walked only one batter while picking up three strikeouts.

Our View: Lester's ERA is now 3.13 as he has lowered it in each of his last four appearances. Lester has allowed just one home run in his last nine starts, and as long as he limits the long ball he should be able to keep that ERA in the three's.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 6/22, 10:20 AM CT
The Red Sox have released their starting lineup for today's matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals, tabbing LHP Jon Lester as the man on the mound.

Our View: In addition to Lester, Jacoby Ellsbury will get the start in left with Coco Crisp filling duties in center and J.D. Drew surging in right, putting Manny Ramirez in the DH role. Dustin Pedroia at second, Juliu Lugo in short, Jason Varitek behind the plate, Kevin Youkilis at first, and Mike Lowell at third fill out the roster.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/17, 9:35 PM CT
Well, it wasn't a no-hitter, but Jon Lester had quite a performance on Tuesday. He held the powerful Phillies offense at bay, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing six hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Our View: Lester hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start since April, and perhaps more importantly, he has allowed just 2.1 walks per nine innings over his last eight starts.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/17, 11:20 AM CT
Jon Lester will duel with the Phillies tonight in Philadelphia, according to MLB.com. Lester is 5-3 this season with a 3.43 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.

Our View: He has won his last two starts, while only allowing three earned runs over the span. He merits fantasy consideration, despite a tough match-up against the Phillies at home.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/10, 12:07 PM CT
Jon Lester has been moved back one day in the rotation, and will pitch on Thursday instead of his originally scheduled spot for Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He is serving a five-game suspension for his involvement in last Thursday's brawl with the Rays.

Our View: Bartolo Colon will swap spots with Lester, and will take the mound Wednesday.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 6/6, 4:57 PM CT
Jon Lester has been suspended five games by MLB for his involvement in Thursday's fracas with the Rays.

Our View: Lester will have his next start pushed back a day.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 6/5, 8:57 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed just one run over 6.1 innings to improve to 4-3. Lester walks no one on the night while striking out five in the effort against the Rays.

Our View: Lester stayed in the fight marred game and continued to lower his ERA as it fell to 3.50 with this effort. If he continues to throw strikes like he did tonight, he will continue to have an awful lot of success.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/25, 7:32 PM CT
Life after the no-hitter has gotten off on the wrong foot for Boston LHP Jon Lester , taking the loss today as the Red Sox fell 6-3 to Oakland. Lester pitched five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Lester is now 2-1 for the month of May and 3-3 overall.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 5/19, 8:44 PM CT
Jon Lester threw the 18th no-hitter in Red Sox history on Monday night as he twirled the gem against the Royals. Lester improved to 3-2 while allowing just two walks along with nine strikeouts.

Our View: Lester, who has overcome cancer, is on his way to establishing himself as a quality major leaguer. Not that we want to put a damper on his historic night, but it's worth noting that he threw 130 pitches which history tells us is danger territory with young pitchers, so keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't show any ill effects in the next couple of games.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 5/14, 4:53 PM CT
Jon Lester allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out four in six innings of work as the Red Sox lost 6-3 to the Orioles on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View: Lester pitched well enough to win, but the lack of run support and the four runs that the bullpen gave up didn't help the left-hander.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/10, 12:52 AM CT
Jon Lester was hit hard by the light-hitting Twins on Friday night in a 7-6 loss to Minnesota. The Boston left-hander allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits, walked one and struck out two.

Our View: Lester was subject to some shabby defense, but was far from sharp in Boston's fifteenth loss of the season. The lefty remains a AL-only starting option, if for no other reason than his 1.50-plus WHIP.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/4, 4:52 PM CT
What's gotten into Jon Lester? The southpaw held the Rays to four hits and one run on Sunday and improved to 2-2. Lester has been excellent in his last two outings after a rough start to his 2008 campaign. Following his work on Sunday, he now owns more strikeouts (27) than walks (26) this year.

Our View: Lester is reportedly beginning to rely on his changeup more often, and the results look great thus far. He walks too many people to sport a great WHIP, but he can surely help in ERA and wins if he keeps this up.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/29, 9:25 PM CT
Jon Lester twirled a gem for the Red Sox Tuesday, going eight shutout innings while allowing just one hit and four walks while striking out six. The lefty failed to register a win, however, as the Sox scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the ninth after closer Jon Papelbon pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.

Our View: Lester has still walked more batters than he's struck out this year. That's obviously going to have to change if he wants prolonged success.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 4/28, 6:50 PM CT
The Red Sox have made another change in their pitching rotation, this according to the Boston Globe. Boston has moved Jon Lester into Tuesday's slot and push Daisuke Matsuzaka back a day to Wednesday.

Our View: This now makes Lester a two-start pitcher in Week 5 while Dice-K loses his scheduled second start on Sunday.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/19, 9:14 PM CT
Jon Lester lasted 6.1 innings on Saturday allowing 10 hits, two walks and three runs in a no-decision. Lester also had five K and allowed one home run.

Our View: Lester owns a 5.06 ERA over five starts, and he just hasn't been the pitcher that anyone hoped he would be in the early going thanks to a boatload of walks (17) in 26.2 innings.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 4/14, 10:21 PM CT
Jon Lester struggled to find the strike zone again on Monday. He walked five batters over 4.1 innings against the Indians and has now issued 15 free passes in 20.1 frames this season. Lester also allowed five hits and four runs on Monday, and his ERA rose to 5.31.

Our View: We knew going into the season that control would be a key factor for Lester, and he's failing the test thus far.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 4/9, 10:07 PM CT
Jon Lester suffered through a troublesome outing in the Red Sox 2-7 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Lester pitched 5 1/3 innings, throwing 97 pitches to allow four earned runs on five hits with four walks surrendered and no strike outs on the day. This gives Lester his second loss on the year.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 4/2, 5:54 PM CT
Boston starter Jon Lester put forth a strong effort in his second start of the season, holding the Oakland A's scoreless over 6 2/3 innings of work, allowing just three hits and three walks while posting three strike outs. The results resound much better with fantasy owners than his first outing of the season, allowing four runs on eight hits in just four innings of work, bringing Lester to a seasonal ERA of 3.38 with a 1.31 WHIP.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 3/26, 8:25 AM CT
Jon Lester was shaky in his first regular season start. The southpaw needed 83 pitches to get through four innings, and he allowed five hits and four runs. Lester walked three and struck out four. The whiffs are nice, but control issues continue to linger for the promising lefty.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/23, 11:26 AM CT
Jon Lester is penciled in to start the second game of the season for Boston, according to the Providence Journal. Injuries to Schilling and Beckett will force Lester to step up.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 3/5, 5:14 PM CT
Rebounding from a poor first start, Jon Lester had a solid outing on Wednesday as he allowed one run in three innings to the Reds, this according to the AP. “There was nothing wrong mechanically," he said referring to his last start. “You see somebody other than your own team for the first time, you’re more amped up. That could have resulted in me being a little erratic.” With Curt Schilling starting the year on the DL, Lester will be one of the team's starters unless he has an awful spring.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 3/1, 7:42 PM CT
Jon Lester, walked four of the nine batters he faced in his first spring start Saturday against Minnesota. He gave up five runs, four earned, and recorded only three outs. Lester's velocity was present in the debut, hitting as much as 94 MPH on the gun, but his command was awful.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 2/17, 8:10 AM CT
Saturday marked the first day of throwing off the mound for half of the team’s 28 pitchers, according to the Boston Herald. Jon Lester, who tossed with teammates Daisuke Matsuzaka, Tim Wakefield and Josh Beckett, impressed his manager. “He’s a year removed from everything he went through. It’s exciting to see that,” manager Terry Francona said. “(Friday) he wasn’t fighting to keep up with everybody. He was kind of setting the pace. He looks strong. He looked strong off the mound.” Lester noted that he won’t truly know how the added bulk will affect his velocity until he sees the reaction of the hitters. The lefty said there were just four instances last year - in Cleveland, in Baltimore, in Toronto, and the final game of the World Series - that he was able to max out his fastball when needed. “Last year I felt fine, but that little extra just wasn’t there,” Lester said. “In ’05 when I would hump up I would throw 94 or 95 (mph). Last year when I would hump up I would throw 91."
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/25, 10:50 AM CT
Jon Lester is looking like the leading candidate to start Game 4 for the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald. Lester hasn't started a game since Sept. 26, when he threw 94 pitches against Oakland. He threw a 65-pitch simulated game on Tuesday.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 10/17, 10:33 AM CT
If the Red Sox make it to a Game 7, Jon Lester could receive consideration to start the game, according to the Boston Herald. Lester tossed three shutout innings against Cleveland on Tuesday, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out four. "The big thing was he threw strike one a lot tonight, moved the ball around to both sides of the plate," said catcher Jason Varitek. "He threw the ball real well." This is likely speculation more than anything else, and the Sox need to concentrate on winning the next two games before they start thinking about a Game 7.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 9/2, 1:41 PM CT
As expected, The Red Sox recalled Jon Lester from Double-A Portland to make Sunday's start. Lester is 2-0 with a 5.67 ERA in six starts with the Red Sox this season.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/23, 9:17 PM CT
The Red Sox optioned Jon Lester to Triple-A Pawtucket Thursday. He held a 5.67 ERA in six starts since Boston called him up from Pawtucket on July 23. Julian Tavarez, who pitched very well in a spot start last Sunday, will take Lester's spot in the rotation Sunday, according to the AP. Manager Terry Francona said Lester would be back when rosters expand, though it's not clear if he'll be re-inserted into the rotation at that time.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 7/23, 9:50 PM CT
Jon Lester pitched six innings to win his first game in 11 months and lead the Red Sox to a 6-2 win over the Indians Monday night. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six. Lester was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a highly treatable form of cancer, last summer.

Our View: He's been pitching great in the minors all season in preparation for his return to Boston, so this is not so surprising.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 7/23, 4:48 PM CT
The Red Sox officially recalled Jon Lester prior to Monday's game to start against the Indians, according to the Sports Network. Lester was 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA in 14 starts at Triple-A, and it's possible that he'll be sent back down once Curt Schilling returns from the DL.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 7/22, 3:10 PM CT
Jon Lester will replace Julian Tavarez in the Red Sox rotation. He'll make his first start on Monday against the Indians, according to the AP. "I don't think it really has sunken in yet, and I don't think it will sink in until tomorrow when I get on the mound," Lester said Sunday. Lester was 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA in 14 starts at Triple-A.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/26, 10:18 AM CT
Jon Lester suffered through one of the worst starts of his minor league career last night, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket. Lester, who was recently passed over for a spot start in place of the injured Curt Schilling, got off to a tremendous start this year but has been hittable recently, holding a 7.58 ERA and 2.05 WHIP over his last four starts. He's still a good bet for a promotion at some point, but Lester will have to pick things up to force Boston's hand.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 6/22, 9:15 AM CT
Jon Lester is one of the top candidates to start in place of the injured Curt Schilling next week, according to the Boston Herald. Lester currently sports a 2.49 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A. Kason Gabbard is also receiving consideration.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 6/11, 11:54 PM CT
Jon Lester was activated from the DL on Monday and was sent to Triple-A Pawtucket, according to the AP. This was really just a paper move, as Lester had already been in Pawtucket on a rehab assignment, holding a 1.93 ERA in five starts. Lester will surely enter the Red Sox rotation at some point, most likely replacing Julian Tavarez, but the team has yet to announce when that will be.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/5, 12:28 PM CT
The Red Sox are not expected to call up Jon Lester until after he makes at least one more start in Triple-A, according to the Boston Herald. Lester has dominated the minors since his return from cancer and will likely take Julian Tavarez’s spot in the rotation, although the team has not confirmed that.

Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/5, 10:11 PM CT
Jon Lester, who has been on the disabled list all season while recovering from lymphoma treatments, will not be activated this weekend, according to the AP. Lester developed a cramp in his left forearm during a rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday. "Even though we're thrilled it was a cramp, there's still a reason it was a cramp and we don't want that to happen," manager Terry Francona said.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/5, 7:27 AM CT
Jon Lester is expected to join the Red Sox, as he continues to build up to joining the team, according to the Boston Globe. "The more we talked about it, we thought it made sense to let him come with us," manager Terry Francona said yesterday. "Rather than put a firm date on, 'OK, here's when he's going to go pitch,' we're going to evaluate him every day. Let him start out by playing catch like he's supposed to, then long toss, then a side day. It's not like we changed our mind and something's wrong, just the more we thought about it, having him here made sense." Lester is cancer-free but suffered a cramp in his forearm during his last rehab appearance on Wednesday. He likely will work for Triple-A Pawtucket at some point before eventually joining the Red Sox's roster.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 5/4, 12:35 AM CT
Jon Lester said he feels great after suffering a cramp in his left forearm in a rehabilitation start Wednesday night, the AP reports. He allowed two runs on three hits in three innings for Triple-A Pawtucket. Lester was sidelined last August when he was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph system; doctors pronounced him cancer-free in December. The cramp "is no big deal at all, maybe a day or two off and push the (next) start back another day," Lester said. Team doctor Thomas Gill said Lester was fine.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 5/2, 10:49 AM CT

Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/29, 9:24 AM CT
While Terry Francona received a glowing report on Jon Lester's start Friday night at Triple-A, he cautioned that it was premature to speculate that Lester will be called up after he makes the last start of his 30-day rehab assignment Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports. "You might be jumping the gun a little bit," Francona said. Of reports that Lester reached 95 miles an hour with his fastball, Francona said, "He did that all through the minor leagues. When he got to us, we didn't see that."

Lester's 30-day rehab stint will officially end three days later, when the Red Sox must make a decision: option him to Triple-A or call him up. Lester, who's coming back from lymphoma diagnosed last summer, will likely bump Julian Tavarez from the rotation at some point in May.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/22, 10:20 PM CT
Jon Lester threw a side session at Fenway Park Sunday and is expected to make two more rehab starts for Triple-A Pawtucket before Boston decides whether to put him on the big league roster, according to the AP. "Right now I feel strong, I feel healthy. I feel about as normal as I can be," Lester said. "I think that first start is going to be tough. The first couple innings, I'm going to have to control myself a little bit. Hopefully, it will be all right."
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/21, 7:50 AM CT

Manager Terry Francona said that Jon Lester is unlikely to start the year in extended spring training, according to the Boston Globe. "We've talked a lot about a lot things, but that would not be high on our list. Nor would it be high on his list," the manager said. Lester should begin the year in the Triple-A rotation.
Jon Lester, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/11, 7:43 AM CT
Jon Lester is slated to throw to minor leaguers today, as he continues to work his way back from last year's cancer treatment, according to the Boston Globe. He should begin the season either at Triple-A Pawtucket or extended spring training.

Jon Lester pitched on Monday for the first time since his last cancer treatment 2 1/2 years ago, according to the AP. Lester retired all three batters he faced in a "B" game against the Twins. "It's great. Just to get back and be normal again is awesome, just to get back on the mound and throw the baseball and not worry about other things," the 23-year-old said. "So it's good, and I enjoyed it and, hopefully, we just build from here." Lester will throw his next bullpen session on Wednesday.

Jon Lester may be held back a bit at the start of camp for precautionary reasons in order to regain full strength and regain weight following his battle with anaplastic large cell lymphoma, according to the Boston Herald. "I had a conversation with him about a month ago about being cautious, being slow and he didn't want to hear any part of it but he's a smart enough kid to understand we have his best interest in mind," manager Terry Francona said. "When we get down there, I think we'll sit with him, the doctors, the trainers and try to put together a schedule we think is completely in his best interests. We don't want to hold him back just for the sake of holding him back but we also don't want to let him hurt himself. He's had a traumatic winter and we need to be smart on how we handle him."

Jon Lester, who is 5-0 with a 3.04 ERA this year, is aiming to lower his pitch counts, according to the Boston Herald. He's lasted more than six innings just once during his nine starts with the Red Sox this year. “Obviously, you want to go deeper into games, and it all comes back to me,” Lester said. “I have to throw the ball more in the (strike) zone. You saw what happened vs. Kansas City. I threw the ball in the zone, where I wanted to, and they were swinging early in counts. I have to repeat that, and I’ll be fine.”
