Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 10/8, 7:37 PM CT
MLB.com reports that right-hander Shawn Hill was released by the Padres on Thursday.

Our View: Hill made just three start this season before being shut down to undergo Tommy Jon surgery. He has good stuff, but just hasn't been able to stay healthy. Look for a pitching-starved team to take a flier on him next season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 6/30, 8:26 PM CT
Shawn Hill will miss the remainder of the 2009 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last Wednesday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: This was his second Tommy John surgery, with the first coming back in 2004. Hill should be dropped from all fantasy rosters if he was being stashed.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 6/16, 8:03 PM CT
Injured pitcher Shawn Hill has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list according to The Sports Network.

Our View: Hill was originally placed on the DL on April 26 with right elbow inflammation. In three starts before the injury, he posted 1-1 record and 5.25 ERA. He shouldn't be a very attractive fantasy option should he return this season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 6/11, 9:44 AM CT
The Union-Tribune reports that Shawn Hill threw his second bullpen session on Wednesday, but he's still dealing with discomfort following the throwing sessions. The ailment has yet to be diagnosed.

Our View: Hill has made three starts with the Padres this season but he's only totaled 12 innings of work in those appearances. He is not worth eyeing for fantasy purposes.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 6/4, 12:26 PM CT
Two days after saying they were perplexed by pitcher Shawn Hill's right elbow pain, the Padres said on Thursday that he will throw a bullpen session on Sunday the The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Our View: Hill has been out with April 26 with the injury, and appeared to be struggling in his rehab, so this is a good sign. However, it still does not sound like he will be back anytime soon. When he does return, he will not be worth an add to your team.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 6/2, 11:58 AM CT
The Padres and pitcher Shawn Hill continue to be perplexed by pain in Hill's reconstructed right elbow, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Looks like we won't be seeing Hill pitching in Petco Park any time soon, and even if we do, he holds no fantasy value at this point.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 5/18, 11:24 AM CT
Shawn Hill, who is recovering from right elbow inflammation, played catch with skipper Bud Black on Sunday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Black said, "Hill is advancing."

Our View: Hill has a long history of elbow problems, and holds a career 4.95 ERA. He will be out until at least mid-June, and will only be worth a look for deeper NL-only leagues.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 5/5, 11:42 AM CT
An exam from Padres' team doctor Heinz Hoenecke revealed that Shawn Hill no apparent ligament damage, according to MLB.com. Hill was placed on the DL with soreness in the elbow, but Hoenecke told the pitcher the ligament looked "solid" and no damage was found. "It is frustrating," Hill said. "Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it. You're kind of thinking, 'OK, I'm not going through Tommy John again.' At the same time, there's not that one thing where you go, 'Here's a big neon sign.'"

Our View: Hill has been working with physical therapists in an effort to loosen himself up. There is no timetable for his return.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 4/26, 2:14 PM CT
The Padres have placed pitcher Shawn Hill on the 15-day disabled list due to soreness in his right elbow and biceps muscle.

Our View: This transaction was expected after Hill left his start on Saturday. He will undergo exams on Monday, and then we'll know how long he is expected to miss. The early odds are on Chad Gaudin coming up from Triple-A to join the rotation.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 4/26, 8:25 AM CT
Pitcher Shawn Hill will undergo an MRI and other tests on Monday, manager Bub Black informs the San Diego Union-Tribune. Hill left his start on Saturday due to soreness in his right elbow and biceps.

Our View: Hill's injury history is not pretty, and we can only assume that he is headed to the disabled list. The Padres may not make a call on that until Monday, though. Chad Gaudin may come up from Triple-A to fill out the rotation if Hill misses time.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 4/26, 12:00 AM CT
The AP reports that Shawn Hill left Saturday's start against the Pirates after two innings with soreness in his right biceps muscle. He allowed three runs on five hits while absorbing his first loss of the season.

Our View: Hill had gotten off to a respectable start in San Diego this season, but he's now only gone 12 innings in three starts. More information should be available early next week regarding his status for his next scheduled start.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 3/25, 7:39 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Shawn Hill is set to make his Padres debut on Friday.

Our View: Don't expect Hill to make the rotation. He'll most likely be used out of the bullpen, giving him virtually no fantasy value. Especially since he had a 5.83 ERA last season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/23, 12:52 PM CT
Shawn Hill has inked a minor league deal with the Padres, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Hill could push for a rotation spot with San Diego if healthy. The Blue Jays and Mets were also interested in signing him.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/23, 11:18 AM CT
The Mets are reportedly trying to ink Shawn Hill to a deal, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: The Mets would likely add him for depth. The Blue Jays are also interested in signing him, where he would have a better chance to push for a job.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 3/22, 7:21 AM CT
According to the Toronto Star, the Blue Jays anticipate signing starting pitcher Shawn Hill the second he clears waivers from Washington. "We're just trying to get as many arms as we can in here," said GM J.P. Ricciardi. "We know the young kids are going to struggle. ...We're trying to put them in spots they might not be ready for. We get some veteran guys here and they can hold the fort down."

Our View: The 27-year-old Hill has made just 37 starts since 2004, including 12 a season ago with Washington. He was 1-5 with a 5.83 ERA.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 3/21, 7:05 AM CT
The Blue Jays are talking to Shawn Hill following his release by Washington, according to the Globe and Mail.

Our View: The Jays need pitching help, and Hill is worth a look for the club. He has dealt with arm issues, and would not merit fantasy attention heading into the season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 3/18, 5:03 PM CT
According to the Washington Post, Shawn Hill was released by the Nationals Wednesday. The team's signing of Joe Beimel likely played a part in his release.

Our View: Hill wasn't going to accrue many innings anyway and has battled injuries his whole career, but now without a job he is in fantasy purgatory.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/16, 4:28 PM CT
Shawn Hill made his second start of the spring on Monday as the Nationals beat the Marlins 3-1. He only lasted an inning, but allowed no hits, no walks, and no runs, while striking out two.

Our View: Hill has dealt with forearm issues already this spring. The 28-year-old has been cursed by injuries for five years running, but if he can remain healthy, he induces enough ground balls to be relatively effective. At this point, don't bank on him reaching 100 innings in 2009.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 3/14, 11:52 AM CT
Shawn Hill, who has been dealing with a forearm ailment, threw a pain free bullpen session on Friday, according to MASN Sports. Skipper Manny Acta said, "It went very well. He threw pain free and he let the ball fly and we are encouraged by that."

Our View: If Hill manages to hold a spot in the Nationals' rotation, he would only be worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues, going by his poor track record with durability. He has not thrown more than 97 innings in a season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 3/5, 12:03 PM CT
Shawn Hill was scratched from his Thursday start due to forearm issues, reports MLBlogs. Apparently Hill injured the arm on Sunday and failed to report it to the team until Tuesday.

Our View: Add this to the laundry list of injuries Hill has had over the past few seasons. He was vying for the fifth spot in the rotation, but looks like a long shot now.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 2/8, 7:16 AM CT
Shawn Hill has won his salary arbitration case and will be paid $775,000 in 2009, according to the Washington Post. The Nationals offered $500,000.

Our View: Hill will compete for a rotation spot in spring training, but doesn't look to make much of a fantasy impact, even if he stays healthy and puts his arm problems behind him.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresFriday 2/6, 6:57 PM CT
Shawn Hill became the first player to have his arbitration hearing on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Hill asked for $775,000 while the Nationals offered $500,000. He didn't contribute much in 2008, just going 1-5 in 12 starts with a 5.83 ERA. so he doesn't have a ton of leverage in this case.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 1/4, 5:11 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that Shawn Hill is progressing well from a September elbow surgery. He hopes to be ready for spring training.

Our View: Hill has shown potential in the past, but he did not fare well in his 12 starts last season. He was 1-5 with a 5.83 ERA in 63.1 innings of work.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresFriday 9/5, 6:19 PM CT
Shawn Hill had bone spurs removed from his elbow on Friday according to the Washington Post. It was thought that he might need a second Tommy John surgery so this is good news for Hill fans.

Our View: Hill will be ready for spring training in 2009 but won't likely be an effective fantasy player. This season he was 1-5 with a 5.83 ERA.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 8/31, 8:21 AM CT
Nationals pitcher Shawn Hill will have arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow in a clean-up procedure, according to the Washington Times.

Our View: Obviously, he will not be back this season, but fantasy owners have ignored him anyway, as he sports a WHIP of 1.75 and ERA of nearly 6.00.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 8/28, 4:20 PM CT
Shawn Hill will not pitch again this season as the team determined that his injured elbow just isn't responding as hoped to treatment, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Hill is on his way to see Dr. James Andrews on Friday to make sure surgery isn't needed. The 27 year old hurler finishes the year with only 12 starts to his credit leading to a 1-5 record with a 5.83 ERA.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 8/24, 3:14 PM CT
Nationals general manager Jim Bowden said on Sunday that right-hander Shawn Hill is not expected to pitch in a Major League game until the second week of September, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hill is not making the quick progress the team was expecting when he started his throwing program last month. Washington was hoping that Hill would make it back by September 1st. Hill has been bothered by a sore right forearm and hasn't pitched since June 24 against the Dodgers. There is nothing structurally wrong with the forearm - his fastball was clocked in the 90-mph range. However, muscle soreness has prevented him from throwing a sinker, and doctors recommended that Hill rest the forearm.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 8/2, 8:21 PM CT
Shawn Hill is expected to begin a throwing program as part of his rehab from a right forearm strain, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He has a full throwing program laid out, and his goal is to return to the Nationals in early September. This is good news for him, but Hill is not worth stashing as a fantasy hurler, as he holds a 1-5 record with a 5.83 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over 12 starts this season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresFriday 6/27, 7:52 PM CT
Shawn Hill, who is on the DL with a strained right forearm, has been advised to rest by the team, according to the AP. Manager Manny Acta said, "The plan is to shut him down. He’s going to rest for a while, then go on a throwing program. But there’s no timetable." Hill commented, "Everything, structurally, is fine, so there’s no reason I can’t get back to where I was last year at the beginning of the year—and health-wise where I was a long time ago. It’s just a matter of waiting for it to catch up."

Our View: The team can afford to take their time with Hill, as he was only 1-5 over 12 starts with a 5.83 ERA and 1.75 WHIP.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 6/26, 11:23 AM CT
Shawn Hill has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a strained right forearm, according to the AP. Odalis Perez has been activated from the DL, as an adjoining move.

Our View: Hill has not made it to the fifth inning in either of his last two starts, while surrendering six earned runs in both outings. The DL move is retroactive to Wednesday, June 25.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 6/25, 11:03 AM CT
Shawn Hill has been pitching through pain in his forearm and elbow, according to the Associated Press. He will be sent to the Mayo Clinic for another opinion.

Our View: This would explain three consecutive disastrous starts. It appears Hill might be headed to the DL.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 6/24, 9:32 PM CT
Shawn Hill was shelled again for eight runs in three innings Tuesday night at home against the Angels.

Our View: Hill has given up 30 hits in his last 11.2 innings, a span of three starts.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 6/19, 3:21 PM CT
Shawn Hill was lit up for seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits over a mere 3.2 innings of work in Thursday's 9-3 loss to Minnesota, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Hill falls to 1-4 over 11 starts, with a 5.22 ERA. He has allowed at least four earned runs in three of his last four starts.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 6/7, 10:33 PM CT
Shawn Hill fell to 0-3 despite a solid outing against the Giants on Saturday as he held the orange and black to seven hits and two runs over 7.1 innings.

Our View: Hill still can't find the strikeout with three or fewer Ks in six of his last seven appearances, though he continues to battle each outing. Still, he just doesn't offer enough to be used in most 5x5 leagues.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 6/1, 8:33 PM CT
Shawn Hill isn't healthy, not 100 percent at least, and the evidence came in a miserable four innings of work Sunday against Arizona. The Nats right-hander has been taking pain killers and receiving injections for a sore elbow and missed a start last week because of the pain.

Our View: Hill went four innings, his shortest outing of the season, allowing five runs and seven hits. He walked one and struck out three. The velocity on his fastball never topped 88 mph and he appeared to be throwing batting practice to the Arizona lineup in the loss. It's time to dump or bench Hill until he shows he's healthy.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 5/26, 7:41 PM CT
It's official, the Nationals team website reports that Shawn Hill will make his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Padres in San Diego.

Our View: Hill played catch on Monday and was still feeling some pain in the elbow and right forearm. Hill, who missed his last start because of the elbow injury and has been suffering soreness since spring training, said he will have to tough it through the injury for the rest of the season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresFriday 5/23, 7:36 AM CT
Shawn Hill continues to battle forearm pain without an explanation of what's wrong. He did not make his scheduled start on Wednesday. Hill typically takes painkillers before an outing, which allows him to toil through his starts, the Washington Post reports. Hill has undergone MRI exams, X-rays, bone scans, and nerve studies, but no doctor has been able to figure out why he is having pain. "It's basically like somebody stabbed me. I've never had somebody stab me, obviously, but the feeling is a sharp, sharp pain," Hill explains. "I basically modify everything I do so I'm not feeling anything." By "everything," Hill means he has to change how he drinks water, drives his car, lifts weights, sleeps, and (of course) pitches.

Our View: Hill has been able to manage a 4.08 ERA despite his frustrating forearm issue, but he's not as good as he could be and not trustworthy for fantasy owners. We have to wonder when exploratory surgery becomes the next option.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 5/18, 2:13 PM CT
Washington manager Manny Acta has told reporters RHP Shawn Hill is likely to be withheld from his next scheduled start against Philadelphia on Wednesday due to soreness in his right elbow, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hill pitched on Friday against Baltimore and experienced discomfort the following morning. He had a cortisone shot and fluid was removed from the elbow as a result. The good news: The pain is not in the area of elbow reconstruction, a surgery performed in 2004. Acta wants to be cautious with the hurler for the time being as the Nats will re-evaluate later in the week.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 5/17, 8:30 PM CT
A day after losing his first game of the season, Nationals right-hander Shawn Hill had a cortisone shot and fluid taken out of his right elbow on Saturday, this according to MLB.com. The injury is not considered serious, but there is a possibility he may not make his next start, against the Phillies at Nationals Park on Wednesday.

Our View: For now, Hill will not have an MRI. The good news is the pain in not in the area where he had elbow reconstruction in 2004. The pain is located behind the elbow.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/30, 7:58 PM CT
Despite still dealing with soreness in his forearm, Shawn Hill pitched extremely well on Wednesday limiting the Braves to just one run and four hits over eight innings.

Our View: Hill picked up only one K on the day though he needed just 93 pitches to go eight innings. He continues to be a risky play given the fact that he just can't get his arm right, but he has allowed only three earned runs in his last two starts offering some hope that he can continue to have success.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/30, 10:37 AM CT
Shawn Hill is pitching through a chronic ache in his right forearm, and the ailment has changed the way Hill prepares himself between starts, according to the Washington Post. Hill, who began the season on the DL, has not thrown a bullpen session this season, and he said, "We're kind of babying it right now." Instead of throwing off a mound, which the other Nationals' starters do three days before their next outing, Hill has been throwing on flat ground. Most days, his arm is so sore that he does not play extended catch from 120 or even 150 feet, but instead throws from about 90 feet. Hill continues to state that the sharpest pain he experienced during spring training has all but subsided, but now he has discomfort in other areas of the forearm. He said he can deal with it and is hoping he will be over the hump in Mid-may.

Our View: Hill is going to make his third start of the season tonight against Atlanta, and is yet to pitch more than five innings. He holds a poor 1.70 WHIP over 10 innings, but racked up 11 strikeouts. He could be a favorable fantasy starter if he can get healthy. He is worth targeting if you need help and can get him for a low price.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 4/24, 10:32 PM CT
Shawn Hill allowed six hits, three walks and two earned runs over five innings to pick up a no-decision on Thursday.

Our View: Hill has now been limited to five innings in each of his outings, but he does have 11 K and just three walks in those 10 innings marking him as someone to potentially target if he's still on waivers.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 4/21, 7:10 AM CT
Shawn Hill felt no ill-effects of his Saturday start come Sunday morning. "Normal throwing soreness," he tells the Washington Post. "I feel fine. For me, right now, I feel pretty good all things considered." Hill opened the year on the DL due to right forearm soreness.

Our View: Now all Hill has to do is rediscover the touch that led to a 3.42 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 2007.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 4/19, 9:37 PM CT
Making his first start of the season, Shawn Hill threw 85 pitches over five innings as he allowed four runs to the Marlins. Hill permitted eight hits without a single walk on the night as he struck out six.

Our View: Not a bad first outing at all for a guy who has been dealing with arm issues all year. If reports come back that his arm is no worse for the wear, it would be a good time to add Hill to your staff if you are in a deep mixed league.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 4/19, 9:41 AM CT
The Washington Nationals have activated RHP Shawn Hill from the 15-day disabled list, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Hill went 4-5 last season with an ERA of 3.42 and has been tabbed as a major contributor to the cause this season. Today's start versus the Florida Marlins will be his first action of the '08 season in the majors, though he pitched six innings for Triple-A Columbus last weekend.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/16, 10:36 AM CT
Shawn Hill is likely to come off the DL and start on Saturday against the Marlins, according to the Washington Times. Hill pitched six innings for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, and stated that his arm feels strong with only minor tightness, and added that he's ready to go.

Our View: This is good news, and he could emerge as a sleeper if he bounces back favorably.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/9, 4:44 PM CT
Shawn Hill, who told the Washington Post that he felt fine after last night's start at Class-A Potomac, will be required to make one more minor league appearance. "It feels like normal throwing, stiffness - nothing abnormal that I would be worried about," he said. The club wants him to stretch himself out and face better competition, so he'll pitch for Class AAA Columbus on Sunday, not for the major league club. Manny Acta, who was there last night, had this to say: "We need to see him [against] better competition," Acta said. "We want him to see better competition. Obviously before last night, he pitched in our controlled environment that we had in Florida, and last night was a real type of game, and he didn't even see a lefty the whole game. And also, we want him to get his pitch count up. He only threw 69 pitches in the game." The righty's fastball touched 91 MPH on the radar gun. A healthy Hill equals mixed league sleeper.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 4/8, 9:37 PM CT
Shawn Hill, recovering from a forearm injury, tossed five shutout innings Tuesday in a rehab start for Single-A Potomac, allowing four hits and one walk with four strikeouts, according to the AP. The righty's fastball touched 91 MPH on the radar gun. GM Jim Bowden said he and manager Manny Acta planned to meet Wednesday to discuss Hill's status going forward. We'll keep you posted on Hill's progress, but everything sounds good so far.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 4/7, 6:12 PM CT
Shawn Hill says that his pitching forearm feels much better, and the plan is for him to throw 80 pitches at Single-A Potomac on Tuesday, this according to the Washington Post. If all goes well in that outing, Hill hopes to be on the hill for the Nationals on Sunday. Hill is still experiencing discomfort in his pitching arm, so he will need to be monitored closely as any little tweak could cause the Nats to baby him even more than they have so far. When he returns, the team will likely send down Matt Chico.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 3/25, 11:46 PM CT
Washington manager Manny Acta confirmed today that (a) starter Shawn Hill will begin the season on the DL, and (b) the team will not seek to fill his role, rather starting the season with a four-man rotation, according to the Washington Post. The plan calls for Hill, who is building up strength despite nagging soreness in his forearm, to make his debut April 13 at Nationals Park against Atlanta. It would also require two pitchers, likely Tim Redding and Jason Bergmann, to pitch on three days' rest once apiece, April 6 in St. Louis and April 7 against Florida in Washington.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/24, 6:47 PM CT
Shawn Hill, on the DL with an injured forearm, made his scheduled appearance on Monday throwing 39 pitches over two innings, this according to MLB.com. "I felt OK," Hill said. "[My forearm] was really tight and in a little bit of pain when I was warming up, but when I got going, it felt good when I was throwing the changeup." Hill and the team continue to search for a definitive diagnosis of the injury, but given that he is still experiencing pain when he throws it certainly doesn't seem like he should be expected back any time soon, though he will continue to pitch despite the pain after being told their is nothing structurally wrong with his arm.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresThursday 3/20, 9:37 AM CT
Shawn Hill threw a 38-pitch side session on Wednesday, and reportedly felt fine after, according to the Washington Post. Hill commented, "It was just a little tight getting loose, but once I got loose it felt fine. I didn't have any sharp pain or anything like that. If that comes back, that'll be what bothers me. The achiness or tightness doesn't bother me. So far, so good." Hill had a hard time gripping the ball, and his control on off-speed pitches was compromised, but it was a positive day for him overall. Hill should continue to make progress on his forearm soreness.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/17, 10:35 AM CT
Shawn Hill worked a bullpen session Saturday and felt excellent on Sunday, according to the Washington Post. "To be perfectly honest, I feel better today than I thought I would," Hill said. "I had some tightness in there, but no pain. I wasn't 100 percent, but it was completely something I could pitch with." He's recovering from elbow surgery and recently had a cortisone shot in the joint. He could throw batting practice as soon as Sunday, but he's a long-shot to be ready for the start of the season.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 3/9, 9:57 AM CT
Shawn Hill received a cortisone shot in his arm on Saturday, according to the Washington Post. "They injected it, and he had instant relief," GM Jim Bowden said. "What that means, I don't know. We'll have to wait and see when he goes back on the mound." Hill's recovering from offseason surgery to decompress a nerve in the arm, so this is somewhat concerning. He could still be ready for the start of the season, but that will depend on when he can return to the mound and how his arm holds up.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 3/4, 12:50 PM CT
A second opinion on Shawn Hill's sore right forearm confirmed that he had no further damage. “It was good news in a sense that the nerve checked out fine; the MRI was clear,” Hill said in the AP. “We just have to figure out how to get it under control.” However, it's looking like Hill might not be ready by opening day. “I don’t want to be too quick pulling the trigger, but this right now doesn’t put him on schedule to be ready on opening day,” manager Manny Acta said. “If you’re going to shut him down, then he’s going to start all over with a throwing program, and then build up a little bit.” Hill has dealt with arm problems his entire professional career, and you can bet he'll probably make a trip or two to the DL this year, as well.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSunday 3/2, 10:33 AM CT
Shawn Hill will get a second opinion on his sore right forearm on Monday, according to the Washington Post. "Based on the MRI, we believe Shawn will be fine," GM Jim Bowden said. "This second opinion is only for precautionary reasons." That MRI, taken Saturday, revealed no torn tendons or swelling, but the Nats want to make sure there's nothing else going on with Hill. The current plan is to rest him for a few days, but that could change, depending on Monday's examination.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 3/1, 2:20 PM CT
Shawn Hill was sent for a precautionary MRI on his sore right forearm Saturday, according to the Washington Post. The exam revealed no torn tendons or swelling, but the club plans to hold him back a bit to rest up. Hill has trouble staying healthy, so while the MRI results were good news, the fact that he's bothered enough by this to warrant an MRI in the first place is a bit concerning.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 2/27, 8:36 AM CT
Shawn Hill threw a terrific BP session Tuesday despite experiencing right forearm soreness, the same injury that bothered him last spring, according to MLB.com. He will take two days off and then have a bullpen session. Hill will then have another day off before having a bullpen session and starting against St. Louis on March 5. The Nats intend to take it slow this spring with Hill, who has had trouble staying healthy. Hill appeared more concerned about not being able to throw his breaking balls for strikes than he did about his forearm, so this doesn't appear to be a big deal. The righty could provide some surprising fantasy value if he manages to take the ball for 30 starts this year.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 2/16, 11:06 AM CT
Shawn Hill underwent two operations in October, but he is at full strength and working without restrictions in camp. "I've been throwing since the middle of December," he tells the Washington Post. Hill underwent surgeries to his right forearm and left shoulder.
Shawn Hill, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 9/25, 11:32 AM CT
Shawn Hill will miss his final start Wednesday and will have surgery to resolve a nerve problem in his right elbow. "Shawn had some recurring pain, the same kind he had in spring training," GM Jim Bowden said . "He had been shut down and started up again [when he went on the disabled list in May], and obviously with it recurring, it showed there was a problem."
