Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/1, 6:21 PM CT
Brandon Wood has been recalled by the Angels from Triple-A Salt Lake, according to TSN.

Our View: Wood has great power potential, but only hit .154 with one homer over 26 at-bats with the Angels this season. The 24-year-old corner infielder is still worth holding as a flier for AL-only leagues in case he makes some noise down the stretch.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/31, 7:22 PM CT
Brandon Wood has been optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room for Sean Rodriguez on the roster, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Wood failed to impress the Angels with an anemic .154 average and 10 strikeouts over 26 at-bats, but the future slugger could be brought back later in the season. He is worth holding in deeper fantasy leagues.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/14, 3:40 PM CT
The Boston Globe is reporting that Angels' infielder Brandon Wood would be required in any deal for Blue Jays' ace Roy Halladay. Wood was hitting .313 in Triple-A before being called up by the Angels before the break.

Our View: Wood is one of the more highly regarded infield prospects in the game that is considered MLB ready right now. The Angels love him, but they will have to decide if it would be worth it to give him up, along with others, for Halladay.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/10, 2:21 PM CT
The Angels have recalled Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake after placing both Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero on the disabled list on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Wood was batting .313 through 70 games at Salt Lake. He is not currently a viable option at third base.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/13, 11:55 PM CT
Brandon Wood went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs for Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.

Our View: Free Brandon Wood! The former elite prospect is now hitting .351-8-15 for Salt Lake as he patiently waits for another call to Anaheim.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/6, 10:53 AM CT
Brandon Wood has been sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels, according to the Orange County Register. Outfielder Reggie Willits was recalled from Salt Lake as the corresponding move.

Our View: Wood collected three hits over nine at-bats with the Angels, but the club sent him down to get regular playing time to work on his skills.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 4/21, 2:12 PM CT
The OC Register is reporting that Brandon Wood has been recalled by the Angels. He will assume the roster spot of Kevin Jepsen, who was placed on the 15-day DL.

Our View: Angels' fans have been clamoring for Wood to come up since opening day, and he is finally here. Wood impressed in Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting four home runs and six RBI in just six games. If he gets playing time, he is a must add in AL-only leagues and is worth a look in mixed leagues. He provides power from the infield and is eligible at third base and shortstops in most leagues.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/4, 11:30 PM CT
Brandon Wood went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Padres. The performance virtually solidified what had already been suspected - he will start the season back in Triple-A.

Our View: Wood had a good spring overall, although his strikeout rate remains a concern. The bigger issue is that the Angels are loaded with position players and they all played well this spring and have a more proven track record than Wood. He'll get his chance to be a fantasy factor some day, but a lot of things will have to break his way if he sees that opportunity with the Angels this season.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 4/1, 4:17 PM CT
According to the Orange County Register, Brandon Wood will start the season in Triple-A Salt Lake. This is the third consecutive season the Angels prospect will start in Triple-A.

Our View: Wood actually had a very nice spring, hitting .340 with four home runs and 13 RBI, but there was just no place to put him. Chone Figgins is having an excellent spring as well, and his job is already cemented, leaving Wood as the odd man out. He'll likely receive a call-up at some point, but won't hold any fantasy value until he wins a starting job.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 3/27, 5:51 PM CT
Brandon Wood hit his fourth home run of the spring Friday and is now hitting .347.

Our View: Wood likely won't have a starting job when the season rolls around. He'll be in a utility role unless Chone Figgins gets injured or has a miserable season like he did last year.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 3/10, 7:22 PM CT
Brandon Wood hit his second home run of the spring Tuesday and led the Angels to a win over Cleveland with his three RBI.

Our View: Wood will likely start the season in a utility role, but he may get a shot at the hot corner should starter Chone Figgins show inconsistency.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 3/7, 6:25 PM CT
Brandon Wood was great against Arizona on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, a triple and a stolen base.

Our View: Wood has looked excellent in spring training thus far, batting 8-for-17 with one home run, two stolen bases and just one strikeout. Wood has always been blessed with phenomenal power and fine speed for a utility infielder, though the strikeouts have been a major problem. The Angels already have Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar and Chone Figgins entrenched as the starters around the infield, although Wood, still just 24, would certainly get at-bats from time to time and make for a nice possible sleeper if he has indeed solved his strikeout problems.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 3/2, 8:04 PM CT
Brandon Wood started at third base and went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBI, and two runs scored in the Angels win over the Rockies on Monday.

Our View: Wood is still considered good prospect, despite high strikeout totals at the upper levels. In 150 major league at-bats last season, he struck out 43 times. As long as Chone Figgins is healthy, don't count on Wood being an everyday player.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 11/18, 10:19 AM CT
Brandon Wood was cut from the Dominican winter-ball club due to poor play, according to the LA Times.

Our View: Wood was once considered one of the Angels' top prospects, but only hit .200 over 150 at-bats with the big-league club in 2008, with 43 strikeouts. He didn't display much power either with only five homers.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/29, 8:10 AM CT
Brandon Wood has been recalled by the Angels to take the place of Howie Kendrick, who has been put on the DL, according to the L.A. Times. Wood hit .296 with 31 home runs in Triple-A this season.

Our View: Wood has supreme power, but with it comes a number of strikeouts. He is certainly worth pursuing, especially in AL-only leagues, as he could give owners needing some pop a few long balls.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/13, 11:28 AM CT
Brandon Wood has been optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake, according to ESPN.com. The team needed to make room on the roster for Chone Figgins, who has been activated from the DL.

Our View: Wood was given 64 at-bats with the Angels this season, but failed to prove his worth as he held a .125 average, with one homer and two RBI.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/26, 8:05 PM CT
Brandon Wood was called up last week to to fill in for the injured Erick Aybar and receive a spot start at third base when needed. That time is tonight as the young prospect will start for of Chone Figgins.

Our View: Wood is hitting eighth and will face the Tigers veteran lefty Kenny Rogers.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/21, 11:50 PM CT
The Angels recalled Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake Wednesday and optioned Matt Brown.

Our View: Wood, the team's top prospect, could start at second while Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick are out, with Chone Figgins starting at second.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/5, 9:58 PM CT
Brandon Wood hit his first home run on Monday night as the Angels put a 4-0 shutout on the Royals.

Our View: Wood, who was recently recalled from Triple-A, has played in seven games, but only had nine at-bats coming into the game. The home run accounted for his first RBI and his third run of the season.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 4/28, 9:17 PM CT
Infielder Brandon Wood was recalled on Monday from Triple-A Salt Lake. However, Rob Quinlan is starting at third base, leaving the Angels top prospect to come off the bench.

Our View: Chone Figgins is playing second base for the second straight game with both Howie Kendrick and Maicer Izturis out. The stop is temporary for Wood. He is expected to return to Salt Lake City when Kendrick rejoins the active roster.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 4/22, 8:28 PM CT
Brandon Wood went 3-for-5 with his seventh home run of the season for Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Our View: Wood is not quite the hot commodity that he was a couple years ago as a prospect, but he still shows big power potential as a shortstop. If his hot streak continues, the Angels could give him an opportunity later in the season.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 2/29, 5:48 PM CT
Brandon Wood blasted a two-run homer Friday that proved to be the game-winner in the Angels' 3-2 defeat of the Rangers. Wood likely begins spring training third in a three-player race for the shortstop job. He's looking up at Erick Aybar and Maicer Izturis, but he could push his name to the front of the pack if he keeps hitting game-winning homers.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 2/20, 7:53 PM CT
Brandon Wood is working out at both shortstop and third base this spring. He played his first three minor league seasons at short before moving to the hot corner last year. "Brandon's going to get reacquainted with shortstop," manager Mike Scioscia said in the AP. "We're going to work him out at shortstop early, then flip him over to third base." The 22-year-old Wood will battle Erik Aybar and Maicer Izturis for the shortstop job this spring, but many feel his future is at third. Regardless, he's likely to begin the year at Triple-A.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 2/16, 4:48 PM CT
For the Angels, the starting shortstop role will remain in question right up to Opening Day in Minnesota, according to the team website. Manager Mike Scioscia will take long hard looks at Maicer Izturis, Erick Aybar and Brandon Wood before making a decision. Izturis' versatility could pigeon-hole him into a utility role. Aybar's natural position is shortstop -- and the fact that Wood is less experienced among the group -- will not factor into the final decision, Scioscia said. "We have a lot of versatility," Scioscia said. "A guy's not going to lose a position because he's more valuable moving around." Scioscia's statement would make one believe he is leaning towards Izturis as his starter in the hole, but the skipper likes Aybar bat, "...he is a guy with the ability to hit .300 at some point," according to Scoioscia. Wood will be in the Spring Training mix, but he is expected to begin the season on the farm.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 10/9, 10:53 AM CT
Brandon Wood will play winter ball in Mexico over the offseason so he can work on hitting offspeed pitches, according to the LA Times. In 111 games with Triple-A this year, he hit .272 with 23 homers and 77 RBI. Wood should get a shot to win the everyday third base job next spring. While he offers great power potential, he's unlikely to hit for much average at the big-league level, at least early in his career.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 7/30, 7:11 AM CT
The Angels optioned Brandon Wood back to Triple-A Salt Lake after Sunday's game. He only got in 10 at-bats over four games since being recalled a couple of weeks ago and has hit just .143 in 21 at-bats on the season. Despite his struggles, he's one of their top prospects, and he should be back no later than when rosters expand. Matt Brown is expected to be recalled to replace Wood on the roster.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/14, 7:29 AM CT
The Angels recalled Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. He was hitting .261 with 15 homers and 54 RBI for Salt Lake and picked up just three hits in 11 at-bats when he was up with the Angels earlier this season. He's a great prospect, but it will be tough for him to make much noise right now.

Brandon Wood was optioned to Triple-A Sunday, the AP reports. The Angels are prepared to activate Chone Figgins off the DL Monday.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/26, 5:39 PM CT
Brandon Wood struggled in his big-league debut on Thursday against the Devil Rays, going 0-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts. He started at third base and batted ninth. Wood, one of the top hitting prospects in the game, could get another couple of starts over the weekend, but there's a good chance he'll be sent back down once Chone Figgins returns from the disabled list early next week.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/26, 12:31 PM CT
As expected, the Angels called up Brandon Wood Thursday, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Wood was hitting .278 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 20 games for Triple-A Salt Lake. Kendry Morales was sent down yesterday to clear a roster spot for Wood.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/26, 2:00 AM CT
The Angels plan to bring up Brandon Wood on Thursday, the AP reports. Kendry Morales was optioned to Triple-A Wednesday. Wood is hitting .278 with three homers and 15 RBIs in 20 games with Triple-A Salt Lake, playing mostly at third base. "It's probably short term, but you never know," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Right now we're going to need some more infield coverage. A couple of guys have been playing a lot and are showing some signs of maybe needing a day off here and there. Having Brandon at third base is going to give us flexibility and a little more depth."
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/19, 10:32 AM CT
The most likely candidate to be recalled to replace the injured Howie Kendrick on the roster is top prospect Brandon Wood, according to the LA Times. Wood is currently batting .293 with three homers and 11 runs batted in at Triple-A Salt Lake. If Wood is recalled, the Angels would start him at third and move Maicer Izturis to second.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 3/19, 7:23 AM CT
As expected, the Angels sent Brandon Wood to minor league camp on Sunday, according to the LA Times. Wood is slated to begin the season at Triple-A, as he continues his move from shortstop to third base.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 3/8, 8:41 AM CT
Brandon Wood twisted his ankle during a fielding drill on Tuesday and will remain sidelined until Saturday or Sunday, according to the LA Times. Wood, who recently converted from shortstop to third base, is expected to begin the season at Triple-A.
Brandon Wood, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 2/22, 8:46 AM CT
Brandon Wood will begin working at third base, as he moves from shortstop to the hot corner, according to the LA Times. Although manager Mike Scioscia said the move isn't necessarily permanent, it should give Wood a better chance of joining the Angels sooner, since Orlando Cabrera is entrenched at short. "This is for our benefit and Brandon's benefit," Scioscia said. "If it works out and he can play third, to have that kind of bat coming up could help us. We're comfortable with his ability at shortstop, but as you get up that funnel toward the big leagues, a lot of times you have to become versatile to get to where you want to be."
