David Murphy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in tonight's 9-2 loss at New York. He hit a double and a solo homer off Andy Pettitte.

Our View: The Rangers only mustered seven hits in the game, and Murphy was their lone source of scoring. He was in need of a solid performance, as he was hitless over his previous three games (11 at-bats). He also snapped a 14-game skid without a homer.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 8/5, 11:57 PM CT
David Murphy went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in tonight's 7-5 loss at Oakland.

Our View: Murphy has three homers over his last three games, after only launching one homer in the entire month of July (54 at-bats). He has a hit in three straight games as well, and is worth penciling into fantasy lineups while hot.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 7/22, 6:21 PM CT
David Murphy will start in the DH spot for tonight's game against Boston, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: He is dealing with the flu, and skipper Ron Washington doesn't want him roaming in left field tonight. Nelson Cruz will start in right field with Josh Hamilton in center and Marlon Byrd in left.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 7/20, 11:04 PM CT
David Murphy went 2-for-4 on Monday with his eighth home run, a two-run shot off John Smoltz in the sixth inning.

Our View: Murphy has been solid since the start of the season and has been a fine play anytime a right-handed starter is on the mound.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSunday 7/12, 9:31 AM CT
David Murphy was out of the lineup again on Saturday, and it appears as he will sit Sunday as well, according to MLB.com. Murphy isn't injured, but manager Ron Washington wants to sit him against most lefties.

Our View: Now that Josh Hamilton is back, Murphy figures to see a major decrease in his playing time. It looks like Hamilton, Marlon Byrd, and Nelson Cruz will see a majority of the time, with Murphy getting spot starts against righties. He holds little-to-no fantasy value at this point.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 7/6, 7:31 PM CT
David Murphy is out of tonight's lineup against the Angels with Josh Hamilton returning to action in center field, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Murphy has three hits in each of his last two games, and has at least one hit in 10 of his last 12 games - with nine RBI over that span. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while swinging a hot stick.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 6/24, 11:52 PM CT
David Murphy went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI in tonight's 2-1 win at Arizona.

Our View: Murphy is hitting .306 over 62 at-bats this month, but only has one homer and five RBI. He doesn't offer much more to fantasy owners than a solid batting average right now.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersThursday 5/21, 3:14 PM CT

David Murphy went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 6-4 win over the Orioles. He started in right field and hit second in the game.

Our View: Two days ago, Murphy had been hitless in his first 22 at bats. He has three hits and four RBI in his past two games and appears to be breaking out of his slump. Still, the Rangers have a lot of depth in the outfield, and his role is not considered an everyday one.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersFriday 4/24, 4:51 PM CT
According to MLB.com, David Murphy is not going anywhere. The struggling right fielder has been riding the pine lately but the team has stated that they have no intentions of demoting him to Triple-A.

Our View: Murphy has yet to record a hit this season in 20 at-bats. Even though he's not getting relegated to the minors, Murphy is still not a safe fantasy play. If you own him, wait for him to break out before putting him in your lineup. Otherwise he's a quick way to drag down your average and OPS.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 4/22, 2:35 PM CT
David Murphy is expected to return to the diamond Thursday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Murphy has been benched since Sunday while working on his swing. He is hitless over his first 18 at-bats this season.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 4/15, 11:48 PM CT
David Murphy was not in the lineup against the Orioles on Wednesday night and has yet to collect a hit in 13 at-bats this year, but he still has the confidence of manager Ron Washington, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'm going to get David in there as much as I'm going to get Marlon [Byrd] in there," Washington said. "Murph's going to get a chance to come around."

Our View: As a left-handed hitter, Murphy shouldn't have been expected to get the start with lefty Mark Hendrickson on the mound, anyway, but it's at least encouraging to hear that the skipper hasn't lost faith. That said, with how well Byrd has been swinging the bat of late (he went 5-for-6 on Wednesday), don't be surprised if Murphy's playing time takes a hit, despite Washington's comments.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 3/2, 6:50 PM CT
David Murphy was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI as the Rangers beat the Indians 8-7 on Monday.

Our View: Despite depth in the outfielf in Texas, Murphy could be an everyday player for the Rangers as long as he is healthy. He would likely only see a day off against the league's top lefthanders.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSunday 2/1, 5:43 PM CT
Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan had some glowing words for outfielder David Murphy recently, according to the Star-Telegram. "David Murphy you've got to keep on your ballclub and you have to get him in the lineup every chance you get," Ryan said. "If you watch him, and he has four at-bats in a night, in three of the four he'll be 3-2 [in the count]. He has an unbelievable eye, works the strike zone, fouls pitches off, makes pitchers throw a lot of pitches. He can do a lot of things."

Our View: Ryan went on to say that he would only take Murphy out of the game when he was matched up with a tough left-handed pitcher.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSunday 1/18, 12:54 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that David Murphy has recovered from a torn PCL in his knee and he will likely be the starting left fielder for the Rangers net season.

Our View: Murphy had a mostly strong rookie season in 2008, but his production dipped in June and July. It appears that he should be 100 percent by the start of spring training and he could provide good value on draft day.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 9/15, 7:21 PM CT
Rangers rookie David Murphy might have been the front-runner for the AL rookie of the year before he injured his knee and the Dallas Morning News is reporting that the Rangers are shutting him down for the rest of the season.

Our View: The Rangers do not want to rush Murphy back too soon and make sure he is ready for offseason workouts.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 9/10, 10:36 AM CT
David Murphy got a cortisone shot in his ailing knee, and the team thinks it is possible for him to return before the season is out, according to the Dallas Morning News.

David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersFriday 9/5, 7:37 PM CT
David Murphy, sidelined with a sprained ligament in his knee, may be in danger of being shut down for the remainder of the season. Although he has participated in batting practice, doctors have not cleared him to do any running.

Our View: Murphy was a pleasant surprise in the fantasy world this season, but it appears the end may be near. Earlier in the day Ian Kinsler opted for season-ending surgery. Murphy is not in need of surgery, only rest.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSunday 8/31, 11:29 AM CT
After thinking that Rangers outfielder David Murphy would be ready to play on September 1, that plan is on hold and he likely will not be able to go until the end of the week, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Murphy had a sprained right knee that he is still recovering from. He has been a productive player for fantasy owners, with 15 home runs, 74 RBI along with chipping in seven stolen bases.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 8/27, 7:56 PM CT
Texas outfielder David Murphy is ready to come off the disabled list by September 1st, but the Rangers are waiting until he's 100 percent, so it could be longer than that, according to MLB.com. However, Murphy did put his injured right knee through a strenuous test on Wednesday before the Rangers game with the Royals, and everything went well.

Our View: Murphy, who is sidelined with a strained ligament in his right knee, did a variety of baserunning simulation drills, including rounding first base on a single, going from first to third, and tagging up on a sacrifice fly. Murphy was expected to be sidelined from between two and four weeks. It's now been three weeks and his return is near. The Rangers just want to make sure.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSaturday 8/23, 9:44 AM CT
David Murphy took batting practice and threw for the first time Friday since spraining his right knee, according to the Star-Telegram. Murphy also started jogging Wednesday and said his progress has improved significantly the past week.

Our View: He is targeting September 1 for his return date to the Rangers, assuming he won't suffer any setbacks. He is a candidate for the AL Rookie of the Year award with a .275 average, 15 homers, 74 RBI, 64 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. He is surely worth waiting for as a fantasy outfielder.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersThursday 8/21, 11:11 AM CT
David Murphy did some jogging Wednesday for the first time since spraining his knee, according to the Star-Telegram. He reported no pain after his session and said, "I’m getting to the point where I’m getting closer to experimenting with sprinting. David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 8/6, 11:23 PM CT

David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 8/6, 10:39 PM CT
David Murphy left Wednesday's game after suffering a right knee strain as a result of a collision with Ivan Rodriguez at the plate.

David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersFriday 8/1, 10:32 PM CT
David Murphy won the game with a two run single in the bottom of the ninth inning as he had three hits and four RBI for the Rangers.

Our View: Almost no one predicted this type of success out of Murphy this year, and though he is hitting only .268, he does have 14 home runs and 71 RBI as a nice complementary bat for the Rangers.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersTuesday 7/15, 3:43 PM CT
David Murphy is hitting well so far in July, as he holds a .324 average (12-for-37) with three homers and eight RBI over nine games.

Our View: Murphy should remain active in your starting lineup, and is worth targeting if you can lure him away from another owner for a favorable price.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersFriday 7/11, 10:55 PM CT
David Murphy hit his third home run in five games on Friday off Chicago LHP Gavin Floyd.

Our View: Murphy has not hit lefties well this year but made solid contact tonight. He now has an impressive 60 RBI this season.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 7/7, 11:18 PM CT
David Murphy hit his 12th home run of the season in Texas' five-run fifth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Rangers fell 9-6 to the LA Angels on Monday night.

Our View: Murphy continues to be a solid supporting cast member for the highest scoring team in the majors. His .269 average, impressive 58 RBI and 47 runs scored in 85 games makes him arguably the biggest surprise in the first half of the season.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSunday 7/6, 4:45 PM CT
David Murphy may have officially broken out of his slide on Sunday. He went 3-for-6 with three RBI, a home run and a run scored.

Our View: Murphy's average had fallen 30 points over the past month and he was held out of the lineup with some regularity lately to study film and get extra work in the cage. It paid off on Sunday.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 6/16, 9:37 PM CT
David Murphy continues to put up tremendous numbers in his effort to capture the AL Rookie of the Year award, according to the Dallas News.

Our View: Murphy is tied for the AL rookie lead in home runs (10), is first in RBI (47), doubles (20) and is second with a .787 OPS. His minor league numbers simply don't support the level of production we have seen thus far, so don't be surprised if things slow down considerably in the second half.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersWednesday 6/11, 11:09 PM CT
The Rangers brought more than enough offense to the party this evening, dismissing the Royals 11-5. The leader in the clubhouse is outfielder David Murphy , going 3-for-5 at the dish with two home runs to total five RBIs and two runs scored.

David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 4/7, 10:05 AM CT
David Murphy just keeps on hitting. He went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run on Sunday, and his average fell to .409. Murphy was supposed to be part of a platoon with Marlon Byrd and Frank Catalanotto, but his hot bat has changed the scenario, thus far. "I expected it to be more of a round-robin thing," manager Ron Washington explains to the Dallas Morning News. "But the guy is swinging a hot bat and running everything down. You can't take him out when he's going like that."
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSaturday 4/5, 10:56 PM CT
David Murphy continued his impressive start to the season on Saturday night as he hit his first home run of the year for the Rangers. The kid is hitting .412 in five games this season and his bat keeps giving the club a reason to have him in the lineup. Right now he should be owned in all AL Only leagues, though rostering him a mixed league format seems a bit premature.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersMonday 3/24, 8:21 PM CT
David Murphy had two hits and three RBI on Monday as he attempts to wiggle his way into the Rangers lineup. Murphy is hitting .392 this spring but it still seems like Marlon Byrd will get the starting gig. However, there are rumors that Byrd may be on his way out of town at which point the value of Murphy could improve in the muddled Rangers outfield.
David Murphy, LF, Texas RangersSaturday 3/15, 7:34 PM CT
