MASNSports.com is reporting that pitcher Ryan Wagner has retired from baseball. Wagner was 0-0 with a 6.11 ERA and two saves in 13 games for Triple-A Syracuse this season.

Our View: No word yet on why Wagner decided to retire, but he hasn't been the same pitcher since he had surgery on his shoulder in 2006. He had no fantasy value before the retirement.

The Washington Nationals have re-signed reliever Ryan Wagner to a minor-league deal, reports MLB.com.

Our View: Wagner has not been the same pitcher after having surgery on his shoulder. He did not throw a pitch in 2008 and threw just 15.2 innings in 2007.

Our View: Wagner underwent shoulder surgery a year ago and never fully recovered. He only appeared and 14 games for the Nationals.

Manager Manny Acta said the session was "rough" because of a blister that developed on Wagner's finger, according to the AP. Wagner will throw a few more sim games before the team decides when he's ready for a rehab assignment.

Our View: Wagner had virtually no fantasy value before he was hurt, and that's not going to change after major surgery.

Our View: Wagner underwent major shoulder surgery 12 months ago, but his recovery is going well and the team hopes to put him through a simulated game on Thursday. From there, a potential rehab assignment could follow.

"[Playing in] Spring Training games is not looking too likely -- not necessarily because I wouldn't be ready, but because there is no reason to rush it," Wagner said. Wagner has long been rumored as a future closer, but up until this point of his career he has never been able to harness his stuff to the point that any team has trusted him late in games. At this point his goal is just to get healthy and secure a spot in the Nats bullpen.
