Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 12/6, 11:00 AM CT
The Baltimore Orioles will reportedly be "big spenders" this offseason, according to the New York Post.

Our View: The O's made a failed bid at Mark Teixeira last offseason, so this is not a humongous surprise. While they have an enviable core of young talent, the Orioles have not had a winning season since 1997, and both team brass and fans are growing impatient. Expect them to try their hardest to make a splash this winter, but don't count on it necessarily happening.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 10/4, 4:41 PM CT
Nick Markakis finished the season with a 2-for-5, two-RBI effort that included his 18th home run. The two-run shot came in the first inning of the Orioles eventual 5-4, 11-inning win.

Our View: The two RBI put Markakis over the 100 mark for the first time since 2007. His power was down in 2009 though, marking his lowest homer total since his rookie year.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 10/1, 8:59 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 1-for-3 with his 97th RBI on Thursday, helping the Orioles to a 3-2 win in Tampa Bay.

Our View: Markakis has just eight RBI this month, and is in danger of missing out on his second 100-RBI season. He has three games against the Blue Jays this weekend to reach the benchmark number.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 9/25, 9:10 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Fausto Carmona in tonight's 4-2 loss at Cleveland.

Our View: Markakis swatted his 17th homer of the season, and is five RBI away from 100. He ended a 22-game drought with a homer.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 9/22, 3:34 PM CT
Nick Markakis is out of the Orioles' lineup for Tuesday night against the Blue Jays. Markakis will be replaced by Lou Montanez in right field.

Our View: Markakis has been struggling as of late, hitting .209 in the month of September. He hasn't homered since August, and he only has five RBI. He may be wearing down after a long season, so he could find himself sitting a few more times before the season is out.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 9/9, 10:07 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 3-for-4 on Wednesday night, but couldn't drive in any difference making runs, as Baltimore lost 7-5 in Boston.

Our View: He has just two RBI in September, though he is only nine away from his second 100-RBI campaign in three seasons.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 8/29, 11:45 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with his 89th RBI on Saturday, but the Orioles would still go on to lose 5-3 to the Indians at home.

Our View: Markakis is now batting .338 with eight home runs and 32 RBI since the All-Star break.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 8/28, 10:34 PM CT
Nick Markakis had himself a game on Friday. He went 3-for-5 and launched a three-run homer in the Orioles 13-4 win over the INdians.

Our View: Markakis isn't blasting a ton of homers this season (16), but he's getting it done in the other categories. He's hitting .305, has scored 77 runs and has driven in his teammates 88 times (including 18 this month).
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 8/17, 9:35 PM CT

Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 8/16, 5:49 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-6 with a two-run homer in the Orioles' 17-8, 13-inning loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Our View: Markakis looks to be bouncing back to his 2007 form this season. He's only hit 14 homers, but looks to be on pace to hit over .300 and drive in over 100 runs. Owners would like a little more pop from the talented outfielder, but he's still having a fine campaign.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 8/15, 9:55 PM CT

Nick Markakis went 3-for-5 with three RBI in tonight's 7-3 win over the Royals at Camden Yards. He hit a double and a pair of singles.

Our View: Markakis bounced back well after going hitless over his previous two games (eight at-bats). He raised his season average to .296 and continues to lead the Orioles with 69 RBI. He has 19 RBI over 23 games this month.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 7/26, 3:36 PM CT
Nick Markakis drove in three runs and scored two more on Sunday as the Orioles beat the Red Sox by a score of 6-2. Markakis went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in the game.

Our View: Markakis almost has the average up to .300 at .298, and he is hitting the ball better as of late. He now has 12 homers and 66 RBI on the season, and he remains a very good fantasy outfielder.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 7/21, 9:49 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in tonight's 6-4 loss at New York. All three of his knocks were singles.

Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 7/20, 9:18 PM CT
Nick Markakis hit his 10th home run of the season in the first inning for Baltimore on Monday, though it'd prove to be the lone run the Orioles would score all game long against the Yankees.

Our View: Markakis had gone a month without a home run before hitting one on Friday, and it looks like he may be finding his power stroke. Fantasy owners would love it if he started running on the bases again, as well.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 7/6, 11:37 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 1-for-3 with a single in tonight's 5-0 loss at Seattle.

Our View: Markakis recorded the Orioles' lone hit, and he ruined Jarrod Washburn's bid for a no-hitter. Markakis has a hit in four of six games so far in July, with five RBI over the span.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 7/1, 5:09 PM CT
Nick Markakis had two RBIs for the second straight game on Wednesday, but the Orioles still lost 6-5 to the Red Sox in 11 innings.

Our View: Markakis is still driving in runs, but is in the midst of a profound power slump, homering only once since May 21. If you are an owner of his, just stay patient, as the power is likely to come roaring back sometime soon.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 6/30, 11:07 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-5 with two RBI in tonight's 11-10 win over the Red Sox at Camden Yards. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Markakis raised his batting average to .300, and has 50 RBI, ranking second on the Orioles behind Aubrey Huff (52).
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 6/25, 9:02 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 4-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 11-3 loss at Florida. He had two doubles and two singles.

Our View: This marks his second 4-for-4 effort of the month, and he was in need of a solid outing as he only mustered two hits over his previous 15 at-bats.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 6/21, 11:05 AM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Nick Markakis is not expected to be in Sunday's lineup.

Our View: Nothing to worry about here, as Markakis is just slated for a day of rest. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 6/19, 9:22 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's 7-2 win at Philadelphia. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Markakis only has four RBI so far in June, but still ranks second on the Orioles with 44. He raised his batting average to .296 tonight as well.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/17, 9:03 PM CT
Nick Markakis hit four singles in four at bats in the Orioles 6-4 win over the Mets on Wednesday. He scored twice and also stole a base in the win.

Our View: Markakis was mired in an extended slump, but was 2-for-4 with a home run last night. He tends to be at his most productive at this time of the season. When Markakis is on, he's among the best hitters in the AL.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 6/16, 9:14 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer off Mike Pelfrey in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Mets at Camden Yards. His other hit was a single.

Our View: The O's only had seven hits in the game. Markakis snapped a 14-game drought with an RBI, and he leads the team with 42 RBI.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/10, 4:17 PM CT
In order to avoid batting Nick Markakis and Aubrey Huff back-to-back against left-handers, the Orioles will bat Adam Jones in between them. Against right-handers, Jones will bat second and Markakis will hit third.

Our View: Hopefully the tactic works out. Markakis has slumped since a great start. He went just 4-for-22 on the Orioles recent six-game road trip, and he hit just .240 in all of May. Despite a .381 mark in April, his current average is down to just .287.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 6/6, 7:19 PM CT
MASNsports.com is reporting that Nick Markakis is hitting second in the Orioles' lineup for Saturday night's game against the A's. Manager Dave Trembly is trying to shake things up by mixing up the order.

Our View: No word yet if the lineup will stay like this, but if it does then Markakis owners would be affected. Expect him to move back to the three or four hole before long, but until then his RBI opportunities should take a hit.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 5/21, 9:57 PM CT
Nick Markakis was 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the Orioles 7-4 loss to the Yankees on Thursday.

Our View: Markakis has been stellar this season. He's hitting .327 with seven homers and 35 RBI and is one of the more talented fantasy outfielders in the game. Keep him in your lineup at all costs.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 5/14, 10:56 PM CT
Nick Markakis had two doubles, a run scored, and three RBI on Thursday in the Orioles' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Our View: Markakis continues to pound AL pitching, and it seems like nights like this are a regular occurence for the young slugger. He has ascended to the top tier of fantasy outfielders, just as he was expected to do.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 5/9, 10:01 PM CT
Nick Markakis had three hits in five trips, including his sixth home run on Saturday in the Orioles' 12-5 win over the Yankees.

Our View: Markakis' homer tonight gave him 30 RBI on the season and the talented young outfielder who teased us with two very good seasons the last couple years appears ready to be great. His .353 average will attest to that. Enjoy the breakout.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 5/7, 12:05 AM CT
Nick Markakis pushed his average up to .364 on Wednesday night with two hits in three at-bats. One of the hits was hit fifth home run of the year as he pushed his RBI total to 29 with two on the night.

Our View: Face it, you should have taken Markakis as your first outfielder this season. The guy just will not stop hitting and he continues to simply murder whatever hurlers throw to him at the dish.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 5/4, 10:54 PM CT
Nick Markakis led the Orioles to a win on Monday, as he went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs, and three RBI.

Our View: Markakis continues to hit everything in sight, and he has officially broken out. He may not continue at this pace, but he should be very good for the rest of the season.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 5/1, 11:56 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 1-for-3 on Friday with a home run and two RBI in Baltimore's loss to the Blue Jays.

Our View: Markakis continued his hot start on Friday, but his team couldn't find a way to beat Toronto. Markakis is showing why many think he is poised to be a perrenial top-flight fantasy outfielder.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 4/30, 9:17 AM CT
Nick Markakis extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in Wednesday's loss to Anaheim, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Markakis only has two homers so far, but holds a .381 batting average with 22 RBI and 23 runs scored over 22 games. He is playing up to high expectations as an upper-tier fantasy outfielder.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 4/27, 11:11 AM CT
Nick Markakis is riding a 13-game hitting streak, according to the Baltimore Sun. He has five multi-hit games over the span.

Our View: Markakis is hitting .389 for the season, and playing up to high expectations after inking a lucrative new deal in the offseason. He will look to extend his streak tonight against the Rangers at Camden Yards. He is hitting .349 over 34 career meetings with Texas.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/22, 9:22 PM CT
Nick Markakis had two more hits on Wednesday, but the Orioles lost to the White Sox 8-2. Markakis has been on a tear to start the season, and is now hitting .397.

Our View: Markakis has been hitting like a man possessed so far in 2009, and he is quickly becoming an elite fantasy outfielder. He only has two homers, but he is destroying in every other hitting category. He has 18 RBI and 18 runs scored to go along with his lofty batting average.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 4/21, 11:10 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, three runs scored, and two RBI as the Orioles beat the White Sox 10-3 on Tuesday.

Our View: Markakis is well onto the breakout performance many were hoping to see from him this season. He already has 18 RBI and 17 runs scored in 14 games played.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 4/17, 10:36 PM CT
Outfielder Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with a double, homer, walk, one run, and five RBI in Friday's loss to the Red Sox. He is up to 12 runs and 15 RBI through 10 games this season.

Our View: Markakis proved over his initial three seasons that he's a superstar in the making, and he looks ready to take his game to a new level this year. Only time will tell if he will develop 30-35-homer power, but all the tools are there for him to be a top-10 (if not top-five) fantasy outfielder.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/8, 9:25 PM CT
Nick Markakis had a huge day at the plate on Wednesday, going 3-for-3 and driving in three as the O's downed the Yanks 7-5. He clubbed his first long ball of the season and scored a pair of runs as well.

Our View: Markakis is a top fantasy outfielder and should have a strong season in 2009. He's the best hitter in the Orioles lineup and although he dropped off a bit last in his production, his approach actually improved at the plate. He is a strong #1 outfield option in 2009.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 4/6, 11:57 PM CT
Nick Markakis was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI as the Orioles defeated CC Sabathia and the Yankees 10-5 on Monday.

Our View: Markakis should be poised for a big season as the No. 3 hitter in Baltimore's lineup. Brian Roberts and Adam Jones figure to set up plenty of RBI opportunities for him and Markakis should prove to be among the better clutch hitters in the game in a matter of time. As a 24-year-old last season, he hit .306/.406/.491. As long as he is healthy, he should shoot past the 100 RBI mark just as he did two seasons ago.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 4/4, 11:13 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a double in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Nationals. He improved his spring batting average to .407.

Our View: Markakis is looking to improve on his strong 2008 performance, and we have every reason to think the 25-year-old will do just that. He'll need Aubrey Huff for protection, but if Huff does his part, we could witness an explosion from Markakis.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/1, 4:56 PM CT
Nick Markakis was 2-for-2 with two RBI Wednesday and blasted his second homer of the spring in a losing effort. The Marlins trampled his O's 13-2.

Our View: Markakis is hitting .370 this spring and looks ready for the season to start. He's a great outfield pick on draft day as he's productive in every category, and he's due for a break out season.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 3/24, 2:59 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-3 in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Washington in the Grapefruit League. Both of his knocks were singles. The Orioles only mustered five hits as a team.

Our View: Markakis is hitting .324 in spring action, and should be a solid pick as a top-10 fantasy outfielder.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 3/22, 9:09 AM CT
Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis is working hard this spring to add base-stealing to his arsenal of weapons, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Markakis, who has been reportedly working with third-base coach Juan Samuel on technique, stole 18 bases a season ago, but some of those swipes came on the back end of double steals with Brain Roberts. Already a rising star with plenty of offensive potential for big numbers, Markakis' fantasy value could go through the roof if he becomes a constant terror on the base paths.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 3/18, 2:49 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to St. Louis. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Markakis raised his spring average to .346. He's yet to hit more than 23 homers in a season, but scouts think he could develop more power in time, so there's still upside here.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 2/28, 4:08 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 2-for-3 on Saturday with a pair of doubles while scoring two runs.

Our View: Markakis is batting .600 so far this spring. The Orioles are certainly getting their money's worth on that six-year, $66 million contract extension so far. Hopefully, he'll keep it up once the regular season starts in five weeks.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 1/21, 4:15 PM CT
The Orioles officially announced a six-year contract extension with Nick Markakis on Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald. The deal is a six-year extension worth $66 million, but official terms of the contract were not announced.

Our View: This deal was a wise move for the Orioles, as they bought up all of Markakis' arbitration years plus his first three years of free agency, keeping him under the club's control through the 2014 season. The Orioles are in the most competitive division in the majors as far as payroll goes and can not afford to let young talent like Markakis get away if they're to become competitive. The Orioles have not made the playoffs since the 1997 season.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 1/19, 2:47 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Nick Markakis' extension with the Orioles is in fact done, according to the Baltimore Sun. The new contract is for six years and is worth $66 million, pending a physical. It includes some incentives.

Our View: It marks the second-highest deal in Orioles' history behind only the six-year, $72 million contract given to shortstop Miguel Tejada in December 2003. The 25-year-old outfielder is a building block for the Orioles, and is yet to reach his power potential.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 1/19, 8:06 AM CT
Nick Markakis' contract extension with the Orioles is "essentially done," according to the Baltimore Sun. The deal is believed to be pending a routine physical, but GM Andy MacPhail said Sunday, "We're close, but we're not quite there yet."

Our View: Markakis is worthy of an extension as he blasted 20 homers with 87 RBI in 2008, while scoring 106 runs. He held a .306 average and a .406 OBP. The young outfielder has not tapped his power potential, and looks to once again rank as a rock-solid fantasy option for 2009.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 1/17, 5:39 PM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles and outfielder Nick Markakis have made significant progress in reaching a contract extension the past few days. According to at least one league source, the parties are close to agreeing to a six-year deal worth between $64-66 million in guaranteed money.

Our View: Should the deal get finalized, Markakis' contract would be the second-richest in Orioles' history, surpassed only by the six-year, $72 million contract given to Miguel Tejada in 2003. A 25-year-old five-tool player, Markakis set career-highs in average (.306), runs (106), doubles (48), walks (99), and on-base (.406) and slugging percentage (.491) a season ago.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 12/25, 10:14 AM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports Nick Markakis has turned down an invite to play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic because he and his wife are expecting their first child in March.

Our View: Markakis earned the invite with very consistent play over the last few seasons, including a .306-20-87 line in 2008.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 12/3, 1:07 PM CT
The Baltimore Orioles and outfielder Nick Markakis were negotiating a contract extension, but those talks have subsided, and the two sides will not meet again until January, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The team and Markakis want to see how the free agent market plays out before determining a value. He is clearly one of the best young outfielders in baseball, and should be an early target for fantasy owners.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 11/24, 7:53 PM CT
Nick Markakis and the Baltimore Orioles are currently talking about a contract extension for the young outfielder, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The extension has been rumored to be going on for some time, but the paper reported that Markais' agent and the team have spoken already this week.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 10/24, 5:36 PM CT
Orioles' president Andy MacPhail has contacted the agent of Nick Markakis , according to MASN Sports. It has also been stated by MacPhail that there isn't any bitterness over Markakis just being renewed for $700,000k last season. The Orioles hope to extend him through all of his arbitration years and a couple of his free agent years as well.

Our View: Signing Markakis would send a positive message to Baltimore fans, and would also be a good baseball move. The future of baseball is building through drafts and the minor leagues, with using free agency just to fill holes.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesFriday 10/10, 7:48 AM CT
The Baltimore Orioles are going to enter into discussions with outfielder Nick Markakis on a contract extension this winter, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Markakis is one of the top young outfielders in baseball, hitting .306 with 20 home runs, 87 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Those numbers should only increase, so locking Markakis into a contract now would be a wise move for the Orioles.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 9/24, 10:27 PM CT
Nick Markakis was 3-for-4 on Wednesday in the Orioles' 11-6 loss to the Rays. With the three hits Markakis raised his average to .303 and also drove in his 87th RBI.

Our View: Fantasy owners expected a big year from Markakis and that is exactly what they got. In a rough season for the Orioles Markakis is showing why he is the future face of the organization.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 9/20, 7:49 AM CT
Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis may be in line for a contract extension with the club, even though he is under their control until 2011, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: We are seeing clubs lock up players when they are still arbitration-eligible more often these days. It guarantees the player some money, while potentially saving the club some. Markakis is going to be a key piece to the Orioles future, so the team is exploring what it may take to get him signed.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 9/16, 10:12 AM CT
Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis may hit other pitchers as well as he does Toronto's Shaun Marcum, but he does not hit any better. Markakis has an ideal matchup when the two square off, as he has hit .471 (8-for-17) against Marcum in his career. Better yet, five of those hits have been home runs, and Markakis' career slugging percentage off the Toronto right-hander is 1.353.

Our View: Markakis is having a fine season, and it could get considerably better on Tuesday. He obliterates Marcum's pitching, so by all means, double-check to be sure he is in your fantasy starting lineup.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSunday 9/14, 3:49 PM CT
Markakis hit his 19th and 20th home runs of the season on Sunday.

Our View: The home runs were Markakis' first two of the month. He is only three away from matching his total from last season.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 9/13, 7:35 PM CT
Nick Markakis went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Saturday's 12-2 loss to the Twins. His hit was a double, and marked the Orioles' only extra base hit in the contest (they only had six total hits).

Our View: Markakis has 82 RBI for the season, but only three have come over nine games in September. His average remains solid at .300.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesThursday 9/11, 10:39 PM CT
Nick Markakis had been stuck in a little slump, going 1-for-15. That all ended Thursday night when he was 2-for-5 against the Indians.

Our View: With his 2-for-5 effort Thursday night Markakis raised his average back to the .300 mark. It has been a good year for the right fielder, which many fantasy owners were hoping for.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 8/26, 9:14 PM CT
The Orioles found offense hard to come by this evening, falling 8-3 to the Chicago White Sox despite the efforts of outfielder Nick Markakis. Markakis went 2-for-3 at the plate with one walk and his 40th double of the season, totaling one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Markakis keeps the productive month of August going, hitting .330 with 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored coming into tonight.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 8/13, 9:22 PM CT
The Orioles enjoyed a bevy of offense to get the 6-1 over Cleveland this evening, an effort led by outfielder Nick Markakis. Markakis went 3-for-4 at the plate, including his 36th double of the season to total two RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Markakis has been lighting it up with the stick, hitting .386 on the month coming into this evening with 17 RBIs and nine runs scored. He adds to all of those numbers with another strong outing.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 8/12, 9:23 PM CT
It was an offensive duel in Cleveland this evening as the Orioles fell just short and were unable to keep the Indians off the board, falling 7-5. For the O's, it was outfielder Nick Markakis doing work, going 2-for-3 at the plate with his 35th double of the season, totaling two RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Markakis put up solid fantasy numbers last month and is improving in August, hitting .366 with two homers, nine runs scored, and 17 RBIs thus far.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 8/11, 10:34 PM CT
Nick Markakis had three hits which led to four RBI on Monday night for the Orioles.

Our View: This outing pushed Markakis up to .301 on the year, and he became the Oriole to surpass 70 RBI on the year with 71 (Aubrey Huff has 76 and Melvin Mora 79), though he will fall well short of his 112 RBI mark of last season.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 8/9, 9:36 PM CT
While Baltimore RHP Daniel Cabrera was getting work done on the hill, outfielder Nick Markakis was doing work off of it, going 2-for-3 with two walks and his 17th homer of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored in the Orioles' 9-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Our View: Markakis was productive in July (hitting .317 with thee homers and 16 RBIs), but thus far in August he is on fire, hitting. .387 coming in with thee homers and nine RBIs over his last four games.
Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesMonday 8/4, 4:58 PM CT
Nick Markakis has been a boon to fantasy teams this season, but his match-up tonight means that could be discontinued, for one game at least. The Orioles take on the Angels and pitcher Joe Saunders, and Markakis goes into the game hitting an unseemly .083 against him. Unfortunately, that is also his on-base percentage and slugging percentage against Saunders.

Our View: Markakis has given fantasy owners a little bit of everything, with 15 home runs and 10 stolen bases, but sitting him tonight may not be the worst idea in the world.

Nick Markakis extended his hit streak to 14 games on Sunday. He went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Markakis continues to show us why many experts had him pegged as one of the best outfielders in the game. He seems very comfortable hitting second in the order (.326 at that spot) but there's no doubt fantasy owners hope to see him move to the third or fourth spot in the second half.

Nick Markakis is toiling at the moment, and he admits as much. The 24-year-old outfielder has struck out 15 times over the last 10 games. "This is all new to me right now," Markakis tells the Baltimore Sun. "The way I'm getting pitched to is new to me. It's just something that I have to adapt to. I think in the long run, it will be something that I'm able to cut down on."

Our View: Markakis is too good to be kept down long, but he is quickly finding out what happens when Miguel Tejada isn't sitting behind you in the lineup. He is a stud but carrying the lineup can be tough.

Our View: Through roughly a quarter of the season Markakis is right on pace with the power numbers (30-100), though his average is lagging behind. Still, he is working the count and getting on base with a near .400 OBP, so look for the hits to start falling soon.

Nick Markakis, RF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 5/7, 7:47 PM CT
Nick Markakis had three hits and a run scored for the Orioles on Wednesday and is now hitting .270 on the season.

Our View: Markakis has been in a slump that has dropped his average from .324 to .270 over his last 13 games during which time he has only four RBI. He is too good not to rebound, so ride out the rough play and wait for better days.

Nick Markakis had two more hits on Friday night to up his average to .328 from the third hole in the Orioles lineup.

"It’s not a terribly unusual thing in our industry. It’s to be avoided if you can, but in this case we really weren’t able to find any common ground." After hitting .300 and knocking in 23 homers and 112 RBI in 2007, Markakis was hoping for a substantial raise from last year's $400,000 salary, but he'll make just $55,000 more in 2008.

Even though Nick Markakis has been hitting .402 since June 28 -- the best mark in the majors -- he's been hitting eighth or ninth in the Orioles' batting order. However, management has been discussing moving Markakis up in the order, according to the Baltimore Sun. The change could come as soon as this weekend after the O's wrap up their series against the Yanks. "I don't know where ... would be the best," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "I don't know if it is second, third, fifth, sixth. Then somebody else has to hit ninth, not that that should be a major concern. ... I'm not saying that it's necessary to have it happen in the next three, four or five days or the next eight weeks. Maybe it happens the last week or two of the season. I don't know. Maybe he stays there the whole season. We want him to have a good year."
