Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 11/8, 9:27 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly called off their proposed trade with the D-Backs for catcher Chris Snyder, according to the Arizona Republic. The team was apparently concerned about the status of Snyder's surgically repaired back.

Our View: It looked like the teams were getting close to a deal, but it's not a surprise that his injury problems would be an issue. If the D-Backs to want to trade Snyder, they will likely have to wait until later in the winter when he can prove he is completely recovered and healthy.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 11/7, 8:31 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays are "making progress" on a proposed trade that would send catcher Chris Snyder to Toronto in exchange for first baseman Lyle Overbay. Snyder played just 61 games with the D-Backs in 2009 due to a back injury.

Our View: This looks like one of those deals that would benefit both teams, as Snyder is no longer needed in Arizona after the breakout season of Miguel Montero. We will keep tabs on the ongoing talks, and don't be surprised if something happens here.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 9/22, 11:35 AM CT
The Arizona Republic is reporting that D-Backs' catcher Chris Snyder is scheduled to undergo surgery on his back on Wednesday. Snyder is expected to be fully recovered in time for spring training next season.

Our View: Snyder should be ready to go for next season, but this surgery should significantly hurt his trade value in the offseason. The D-Backs would like to move him before next year, as they look committed to Miguel Montero as the future behind the plate.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 8/29, 8:09 PM CT
Chris Snyder has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation

Our View: Snyder has received limited playing time the past few months after Miguel Montero's offensive breakout, and no longer has fantasy value in any format.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 8/27, 8:58 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Chris Snyder was scratched from Wednesday's game against the Padres due to tightness in his left glute.

Our View: The injury doesn't sound serious, but Snyder is a poor fantasy play even when healthy. He's hitting just .200 with six homers and 22 RBI on the season and has just two hits in his last ten games.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 7/29, 10:18 AM CT
According to the Arizona Republic, Chris Snyder will assume a backup role with the Diamondbacks now that he has been activated from the disabled list.

Our View: Due to the red hot bat of third-year catcher Miguel Montero, Snyder lost his job while nursing a lower back strain since June 23. Manager A.J. Hinch says Montero will get the bulk of the playing time and Snyder may draw some trade interest now that he's expendable in Arizona. If the D-Backs can't deal him, he will serve as the team's backup.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 7/28, 4:26 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team has activated catcher Chris Snyder off the DL. In a corresponding move, the team optioned catcher Luke Carlin to Triple-A Reno.

Our View: Snyder caught nine innings in his final rehab start last night, and he also managed to homer in his first at-bat. Don't expect Snyder to take over the starting gig from Miguel Montero, but he should get a start or two a week and see plenty of pinch-hitting duty.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 7/28, 10:53 AM CT
Chris Snyder (back) caught nine innings for Triple-A Reno on Monday, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: He homered in his first at-bat, after going three for his first 15 in the minors. He is due back to big club very soon, likely later this week, but will be the backup to Miguel Montero, who has taken away Snyder's job with scorching hitting while he was on the DL.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 7/27, 9:48 AM CT
Chris Snyder (back) will make at least one more minor league rehab start on Monday before the team considers activating him, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Snyder is on the trading block as Miguel Montero has wrested away his starting job while he was out. If he stays with the Diamondbacks for the rest of the season, he will be of very little fantasy value.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 7/25, 10:23 AM CT
According to a report in the East Valley Tribune, the Diamondbacks will look to trade catcher Chris Snyder after this season. The team believes that Miguel Montero is the best option at catcher, and they would like to get some return on Snyder and the remianing two years of his three-year, $14.25 million contract.

Our View: Snyder is expected to return to the team sometime in the next week, and he will most likely play a few times a week to showcase his skills to other teams. The D-Backs look committed to Montero going forward, so anyone relying on Snyder when he returns better find another option.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/23, 9:51 AM CT
The Arizona Republic reports that Chris Snyder is about a week away from returning to the lineup.

Our View: Snyder, out since June 23rd with a back injury, played in his second rehab game at Single-A Visalia on Tuesday. When he does return he may lose some at-bats to Miguel Montero, who is currently the D-Backs hottest hitter.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 7/19, 8:40 AM CT
Chris Snyder (back) successfully completed a gamut of fielding drills on Saturday, and is headed to Single-A Visalia to begin a rehab assignment, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Snyder has been out since June 23 with a back injury. He was hitting just .221 at the time he went down, but also had five home runs and 21 RBI, and is a decent option at catcher in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/16, 8:32 PM CT
Chris Snyder (back) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Snyder is hoping to be back in the big leagues by the end of July. Before going down in mid-June, he was batting .223 with five home runs. He is not a great option outside of NL-only leagues.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 7/8, 12:25 PM CT
Chris Snyder is not expected to be back with the Diamondbacks until after the All-Star break, according to MLB.com. Snyder is still recovering from a lower back strain.

Our View: The back is still feeling a bit sore, so the team doesn't want to rush him back with the break coming up. Expect Snyder to be back soon after the break, but he won't have much fantasy value when he comes back.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/23, 6:55 PM CT
Chris Snyder has been placed on the 15-day DL with a lower-back strain, according to the Associated Press. Luke Carlin was recalled from Triple-A Reno to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View: Synder is only hitting .224 over 134 at-bats this season, and fantasy owners should manage fine while he is on the shelf. Miguel Montero will be the No. 1 catcher in Arizona until he returns.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 6/21, 9:34 AM CT
According to the Arizona Republic, catcher Chris Snyder's back is still bothering him and has limited him to DH duties for the weekend series with the Mariners.

Our View: Snyder injured his back swinging last Wednesday and sat out of Thursday's contest. He served as the team's DH on Saturday, but went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. The team says he likely won't be back behind the plate until Tuesday at the earliest. If you have other options at catcher, now is the time to use them because the injury is clearly affecting Snyder's performance.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 6/18, 8:18 PM CT
Catcher Chris Snyder was held out of the Diamondbacks lineup on Thursday with tightness in his lower back, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Snyder felt his back stiffen up after fielding the final strikeout in Wednesday night's game against the Royals. He is considered day-to-day.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 5/10, 7:18 PM CT
Chris Snyder was 2-for-2 with three walks, three RBI, two doubles, and two runs scored in Arizona's 10-8 win over Washington.

Our View: Snyder has a hit in each of his last nine games and he has raised his average from .094 to .233 in the process. Although he is heating up, he is nothing more than a No. 2 fantasy catcher.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/27, 11:45 PM CT
Catcher Chris Snyder was 1-for-2 with two walks, a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI in Monday's 7-2 win over the Cubs.

Our View: Snyder is off to a very slow start, but he continues to see the bulk of the duty behind the plate for Arizona. We expect him to hit better going forward, but he may not be a fantasy factor all season.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 4/12, 10:23 AM CT
Skipper Bob Melvin noted that Chris Snyder will likely start at catcher tonight against the Dodgers, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Melvin wants to use Snyder against opposing lefty hurler Randy Wolf. Snyder has a .250 batting average with nine homers over 53 career games against Los Angeles, with two hits over four at-bats against Wolf.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 12/30, 10:20 AM CT
Chris Snyder has agreed to a three-year, $14.25 million guaranteed contract extension with the Diamondbacks, according to ESPN. The deal has a club option for a fourth year.

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 12/28, 10:14 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Diamondbacks and catcher Chris Snyder are close to agreeing to a three-year extension.

Our View: He hit .237 with 16 homers and 64 RBIs in 2008. He is more valuable to his team behind the plate rather than next to it, but he remains a quality No. 2 catcher in fantasy leagues.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 12/24, 9:13 AM CT
The Diamondbacks are nearing a three-year extension with catcher Chris Snyder, according to the Arizona Republic. The deal is believed to be worth about $14 million in guaranteed money, but the exact number is not yet known. There is also a club option for 2012 which is worth $6 million.

Our View: Snyder hit 16 home runs in just 334 at-bats last year, so he could be a big factor in fantasy this year.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 12/9, 7:07 PM CT
A day after Arizona said they were looking to trade Chris Snyder, it appears that they will hold on to him and backup Miguel Montero, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: The Diamondbacks have a lot of depth at catcher right now so it would make sense for them to move one eventually, even if it doesn't happen this winter.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 12/8, 6:36 PM CT
The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to trade catcher Chris Snyder, FoxSports.com reports.

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 7/20, 3:18 PM CT
As expected, Chris Snyder has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. Utility catcher Robby Hammock has been optioned to Triple-A Tucson as the adjoining move.

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 7/20, 8:54 AM CT

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 7/18, 12:14 PM CT

Our View: Snyder hopes to return from the DL immediately following the All-Star break.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/3, 8:48 AM CT
Chris Snyder got a bit of good news on Wednesday. His fractured testicle will not require surgery, according to the Arizona Republic.

Chris Snyder hit a game-winning home run off John Grabow in the ninth inning of the D'backs 4-3 victory over the Pirates.

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 6/2, 10:05 PM CT
Chris Snyder led the D'Backs with a double, homer, and two RBI in Monday's loss to the Brewers.

Our View: Snyder is coming off a .309-3-14 month of May, and he's quietly turned into a very nice No. 2 fantasy backstop.
Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 5/16, 12:06 AM CT
Chris Snyder stroked his third home run of the season on Thursday night leading to a run scored and three runs on the night.

Our View: Snyder hit fifth on this night as the team was without Eric Byrnes and Conor Jackson, and he didn't fail to provide the power the spot required. Snyder is hitting .284 on the year in just under 100 AB and is proving to be a solid source of run production as well.

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 3/20, 8:52 AM CT

Chris Snyder, C, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/2, 4:17 PM CT
Chris Snyder and Miguel Montero are supposed to be in a platoon at catcher for the D'Backs, but the right-handed hitting Snyder got the start today over the left-handed hitting Montero against Colorado righty Aaron Cook. Manager Bob Melvin has said before that if anyone has the edge going into the season, it would be Snyder because of what he did last year. Keep an eye on this situation, as many viewed Montero as a sleeper this year, but that was based on the prognostication that he would be in the lineup most days against right-handers.
