Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersThursday 8/6, 7:04 PM CT
Chris Shelton has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma by the Mariners, according to the MLB Network. Shelton has accepted his assignment and will report to the Triple-A club.

Our View: No surprises here, as Shelton hasn't done anything to wildly impress in his time with the M's. He hit .231 in 28 at-bats with the team this season.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 8/1, 5:20 PM CT
Chris Shelton has been designated for assignment by the Mariners, according to MLB.com. He was moved to open a roster spot for Luke French, who was acquired via trade from Detroit.

Our View: Shelton failed to stick around in Seattle, as he held a dismal .231 batting average over 28 trips to the plate.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/9, 5:59 PM CT
The Mariners purchased Chris Shelton's contract from the minors, according to TSN. Pitcher Jason Vargas was sent down as the adjoining move.

Our View: Shelton strikes out a lot and his power could be restrained while playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field. He is only worth a look for deeper fantasy leagues. He will see action as a corner infielder with Adrian Beltre on the shelf.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/1, 1:20 PM CT
The Seattle Times reports that Chris Shelton has been sent to minor league camp by the Mariners. The Mariners would like to "go a different route", according to their manager.

Our View: All Shelton did this spring was hit .460/.534/.720 in 50 at-bats. The Mariners may claim they are going in a different direction, but moving a veteran that posts these numbers during the spring seems like a move to keep them right where they were - last place. It's really hard to imagine they have enough quality hitters on their roster to warrant this demotion.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersThursday 3/19, 6:51 PM CT
Chris Shelton went 2-for-4 with an RBI while starting at DH in the Mariners' 9-2 loss to the Cubs on Thursday.

Our View: Shelton is hitting a very impressive 15-for-30 this spring with three home runs. It will be hard for the Mariners to keep him out of their opening day lineup given how well he is seeing the ball right now. While he can still play some first base, he will probably be used more often as a DH.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersThursday 3/5, 5:12 PM CT
Chris Shelton hit his third homerun of the spring on Thursday. He was 1-for-2 with a walk and provided the Mariners' lone RBI.

Our View: Shelton's hot spring is inviting and may very well carry over into the regular season, but beware of a colossal drop off. He has a penchant for producing in April and disappearing.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/2, 12:48 AM CT
Chris Shelton went 1-for-2 on Sunday with a two-run homer.

Our View: Shelton now has two home runs this spring and if he could win the Mariners' starting job at first base, he'd be welcomed by fans as a replacement for the bust that was Richie Sexson.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 12/8, 2:08 PM CT
Chris Shelton has reportedly agreed to a minor league deal with the Mariners, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Shelton has solid upside, namely in the power department, and this is a good acquisition for the struggling Mariners.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/26, 4:41 PM CT
Chris Shelton has been designated for assignment by the Rangers with Chris Davis taking his roster spot, according to the Dallas Morning News. The team now has 10 days to trade, release or outright him.

Our View: Shelton struggled to find any type of groove at the plate hitting .216 with just two home runs in 97 AB and gives way to the younger Davis. Shelton has no value whatsoever, whereas Davis is worth a look in AL Only leagues given the fact that Hank Blalock is still a couple of weeks from returning.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/23, 8:00 AM CT
The Rangers are expected to activate Hank Blalock from the DL on Tuesday, and Chris Shelton could be the odd-man-out to open up a roster spot, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Hank Blalock is expected to serve at first base upon his return, and the team is not expected to keep three first basemen on the roster. Shelton has lacked power this season with only two homers in 96 at-bats, and he carries a poor .219 average, with 32 strikeouts.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/13, 6:02 PM CT
Chris Shelton is starting at first base for the Rangers tonight in an interleague game against the Mets at Shea Stadium. Shelton starts and Frank Catalanotto will be available to pinch hit.

Our View: With no designated hitter, left-handed hitters Brandon Boggs and Frank Catalanotto will sit against Mets' starter and southpaw Oliver Perez.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/25, 11:12 AM CT
Chris Shelton is covering first base today against the Indians, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: He will bat sixth in the order between David Murphy and Marlon Byrd. Shelton is notably one of the few members of the Rangers who has had success against CC Sabathia, today's hurler for Cleveland.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 5/19, 12:28 PM CT
The return of Hank Blalock will force the Rangers to make a roster move. With Blalock's new role the team won't need three first basemen. Though Chris Shelton has worked counts well, he's hit just .200 since replacing Jason Botts, and is the most likely to be sent back to Triple-A Oklahoma.

Our View: Shelton saw playing time against right-handers and lefty's. The former Tiger has 35 at-bats, five runs, three RBI and two home runs.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 5/3, 7:23 PM CT
Chris Shelton, who was recently recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma, is starting at first base against the A's on Saturday night and is hitting eighth in the order.

Our View: Shelton, who took Jason Botts' place on the roster, was expected to see playing time against left-handed pitching, however, the A's are starting right-hander Chad Gaudin. Shelton was called up on April 29th, and his current stay with the parent club is his longest big league stint since he was with Detroit in 2006.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/29, 4:35 PM CT
The Rangers purchased the contract of Chris Shelton from Triple-A Oklahoma Tuesday. He was hitting .354 with three homers and 18 RBI at Triple-A.

Our View: Shelton shouldn't have any trouble gaining some playing time at first base in place of the struggling Ben Broussard. He's worth an immediate pickup in AL-only leagues.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/29, 3:28 PM CT
The Rangers are expected to purchase the contract of slugger Chris Shelton, according to the Dallas Morning News. Hank Blalock will be placed on the DL. The team will reportedly designate Jason Botts for assignment, who was ineffective with a .158 batting average.

Our View: Shelton will see time in the first-base rotation, mainly against left-handers, but it won't be surprising if he gets some time against righties too. Shelton blasted 16 homers over 115 games with Detroit in 2006, but won't likely get enough action to consider for your fantasy squad while Blalock is out.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 1/14, 4:32 PM CT
Chris Shelton was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Monday, according to the AP. The team has 10 days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors. Shelton, who was acquired from Detroit last month, spent most of last season in Triple-A. He could produce enough somewhere to land a platoon role, but it's unlikely he'll find an everyday job wherever he ends up.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/26, 12:20 PM CT
The Tigers optioned Chris Shelton to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, according to the AP. Shelton hit .388 in 49 at-bats this spring, and he'll surely be called up to the big-league club this summer.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/7, 9:18 AM CT
After missing the first week of spring games with a strained abdominal muscle, Chris Shelton made his spring debut yesterday, according to the Detroit News. "I wasn't hesitant, I felt good," Shelton said. "But there's no reason I shouldn't feel good. I'm not worried about anything."
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersFriday 3/2, 5:33 PM CT
Chris Shelton is healing slower than expected from a pulled stomach muscle, according to the AP. "I'm kind of disappointed, really," Leyland said. "We thought it was only going to be a day or so. It's kind of lingered on a little bit." It's uncertain how long he'll be limited.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersFriday 3/2, 8:11 AM CT
Chris Shelton has been slowed by a strained abdomen, but it's not considered a long-lasting setback, the Detroit News reports. Shelton is battling for a roster spot this spring.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 12/5, 11:01 AM CT
The Tigers have received a few offers for Chris Shelton, but they're not looking to deal him unless the offers they receive start getting better, according to the Detroit News. "They think they're gonna get him for nothing," Tigers president Dave Dombrowski said on Day 1 of the winter meetings. "But we like him."
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 9/4, 10:02 PM CT
Chris Shelton started at first base for the Tigers on Monday in his first big league action since being sent to the minors at the end of July. Shelton was 0-for-2 with a run and a walk. "He was fine, but you can't tell much from one game," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "I'll probably play him again tomorrow, but I'll sleep on that."
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/31, 9:27 PM CT
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Chris Shelton, who was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after the Tigers obtained Sean Casey from Pittsburgh, will rejoin the team no later than Sept. 1 when rosters are expanded, according to the AP. "I believe in my heart that Chris Shelton is the first baseman of the future for the Detroit Tigers," Leyland said. "It's just one of those situations where Chris Shelton needs to go down and play. He will definitely be back up Sept. 1, if not before. I think he'll be our first baseman next year, and maybe more this year again."
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/31, 10:12 AM CT
With the acquisition of Sean Casey, the Tigers sent Chris Shelton down to Triple-A Toledo, according to the AP. It's possible that this is just a temporary move. While Shelton has struggled in the second half thus far (.245-0-3), he had actually been heating up a bit. In his last six games, he was hitting .381.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/26, 9:07 AM CT
Tigers manager Jim Leyland has been trying to help Chris Shelton with his swing, encouraging him to keep his hands back, according to the Detroit News. "When you hit, you can't just stand there and swing the bat all of a sudden," Leyland said. "You have to get a little something going. This is a game of movement. You have to get the bat to a hitting position." Shelton is hitting just .195 over the last 12 games.
