Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 12/3, 2:18 PM CT
The Braves have officially signed relief pitcher Takashi Saito, according to Ed Price of AOL FanHouse.

Our View: The deal is believed to be worth $3 million for one season. Along with Billy Wagner, he makes up a nice new back-end to the Braves bullpen, which is losing Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez this offseason.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 12/3, 1:29 PM CT
Free agent reliever Takashi Saito is nearing a deal with the Atlanta Braves, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.

Our View: It is expected to be a one-year deal for $3 million. The Red Sox had expressed interest in keeping the 39-year-old righty, who posted a 2.43 ERA in 55.2 innings for the team last season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 11/30, 9:41 AM CT
Free agent reliever Takashi Saito is reportedly drawing interest from at least eight clubs, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Saito, age 39, was a key cog in the Red Sox's bullpen in 2009, posting a 2.43 ERA in 55.2 innings over 56 appearances. The team declined a $6 million option on him for 2010, but is interested in retaining him at a lower price. Also rumored to be interested are the Cubs, White Sox, Mets and Braves, among others.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 10/20, 9:19 AM CT
Takashi Saito has cleared waivers after being outrighted by the Red Sox on Monday, and is now an unrestricted free agent, capable of signing with any team, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: There is mutual interest between the two sides in a Red Sox reunion. The 39-year-old reliever posted a tidy 2.43 ERA in 55.2 innings for the team in 2009.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 10/15, 3:15 PM CT
According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have outrighted reliever Takashi Saito.

Our View: The Sox will now likely turn down Saito's 2010 option since he's no longer on the 40-man roster, and because he has at least three years of major league service time, he can become a free agent. He will draw interest from several teams as he showed he can still make hitters miss, fanning 52 in 55.2 innings this past season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/16, 9:12 AM CT
FoxSports.com is reporting that the Red Sox might be inclined to trade reliever Takashi Saito if the right deal presents itself. Saito has closed in the past, but he is serving as a set-up man in Boston for the time being.

Our View: Saito could be a nice addition for any team looking for someone to close or for a set-up man, but the Red Sox seem less likely to trade him now that they are getting production from David Ortiz at the plate. If the Sox do move Saito, they would want a major league bat in return. Keep an eye on what the Red Sox do, because if Saito were to move to a team in need of a closer, his fantasy value would skyrocket.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 1/10, 11:37 AM CT
The Red Sox have signed reliever Takashi Saito to a one-year deal with a 2010 club option, sources inform FOXSports.com. He is guaranteed between $1.5 and $2.5 million in 2009 and could make up to $7 million. Saito missed more than two months last season due to a sprained ligament in his elbow.

Our View: The Red Sox continue to add injury-plagued players to high-incentive deals. If he is healthy, Saito could be an excellent reliever and setup man for Jonathan Papelbon. He could join Manny Delcarmen and Hideki Okajima in the seventh/eighth inning mix.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 1/6, 12:09 PM CT
Takashi Saito reportedly received close to 10 offers last month from interested MLB clubs, according to the NPB Tracker.

Our View: The Cardinals and Red Sox were among the interested teams. He was not tendered a contract by the Dodgers due to concerns regarding his elbow.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 1/4, 4:54 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Dodgers made an offer to free-agent Takashi Saito earlier this winter.

Our View: Saito, who has 81 saves over the past three seasons, is coming off elbow problems and was not tendered a contract by the Dodgers.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 12/17, 8:28 AM CT
The St. Louis Cardinals may be interested in former Dodgers closer Takashi Saito to close out games for them, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Saito is coming off elbow problems and was not tendered a contract by the Dodgers. St. Louis is looking for a short-term option at closer until Chris Perez or Jason Motte is deemed ready.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 12/14, 5:21 PM CT
Despite being non-tendered by the Dodgers this past week, Takashi Saito could still return to the Dodgers, at least according to the team, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. "What Takashi did here in Los Angeles was tremendous," Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said. "We will leave the door open and see if there is a way we can bring him back."

Our View: Saito wanted a guaranteed deal, one that the club wasn't willing to offer considering the concerns with his elbow, and as a result he is now searching for work. With Jonathan Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo already in the mix, it is unclear where Saito would fit even if he was re-signed.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 12/12, 11:00 PM CT
Takashi Saito was non-tendered by the Dodgers on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The Dodgers also non-tendered Scott Proctor, Yhency Brazoban, Angel Berroa, and Mario Alvarez.

Our View: Saito has 18 saves for the Dodgers last year but lost his closing job to the hard-throwing Jonathan Broxton later in the year.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 12/10, 7:56 PM CT
The Press-Enterprise reports that Takashi Saito's days as a Dodger might be over if things don't change soon with negotiations, as indicated the two sides were far apart. "It's a staredown right now," Colletti said. The Dodgers have offered Saito an incentive-laden one-year contract, but Saito could very well choose to become a free agent.

Our View: Saito would likely field a lot of interest in a market that is thinning out on closers. He had 18 saves in 45 appearances a season ago.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 12/8, 4:54 PM CT
Dodgers reliever Takashi Saito may not be ready to start the year, despite good progress on his injured elbow, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports.

Our View: Saito sprained a ligament in his right elbow. Jonathan Broxton became the team's closer, and may resume that role next season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 10/11, 8:32 AM CT
Dodger reliever Takashi Saito, who is not on the team's roster for the NLCS, threw 40 pitches in a side session and reported no problems, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View: Saito will throw again when the team travels back to L.A. We suppose it's possible that he could pitch in the World Series, but the Dodgers have a pretty big hole to climb out of.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 10/9, 10:03 AM CT
As expected, Takashi Saito has been left off the Dodgers' NLCS roster, according to the AP.

Our View: Jonathan Broxton will be the undisputed closer for Los Angeles during the best-of-seven series against Philadelphia. Saito, who missed more than two months with an elbow injury, had a blown save and a loss in two of his first three outings and was hit hard in his only appearance of the NLDS against Chicago. When called in to finish up Game 2, with the Dodgers holding a nine-run lead, Saito surrendered a pair of doubles sandwiched around a single to the only three batters he faced, which led to manager Joe Torre's decision to leave him off the roster for the next round.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 10/8, 4:19 PM CT
The L.A. Daily News reports that Takashi Saito may not be on the NLCS roster. After throwing a side session on Wednesday, he decided to scrap throwing from the windup. Saito said the decision rests with others, but he seemed to offer a cryptic hint that he won't be on the roster when he said this, with Kenji Nimura translating: "I'm never going to say I'm (off) the roster, because that isn't for me to decide. It's up to Joe (Torre) and the coaching staff, and they might want me to give it some time and work on my mechanics so I can be ready for the World Series."

Our View: Saito led the Dodgers with 18 saves this season. If he were left off of the roster, Jonathan Broxton will likely be the closer. Broxton successfully filled the role earlier in the season when Saito went on the DL.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 10/7, 9:52 AM CT
The Dodgers will use Takashi Saito as their closer in the NLCS if the match-ups favor him, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View: Saito did not get an out in his lone appearance in the NLDS, and he just came back from elbow problems. In all likelihood, Broxton will be the guy in the ninth inning for L.A.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 10/1, 8:55 AM CT
Manager Joe Torre said Takashi Saito could close if there is a save situation in Game 1 against Chicago, according to the LA Times.

Our View: Saito missed two months because of a sprained ligament in his elbow, but picked up a save on Saturday, which was his first since July 9. As for Jon Broxton, he noted that he would not mind moving back to the setup role.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 9/27, 10:57 PM CT
Takashi Saito recorded his 18th save of the year on Saturday night in the Dodgers' 2-1 win over the Giants.

Our View: It will be intersting to see who the Dodgers use in the playoffs to close games. Will it be the closer of the future, Jonathan Broxton, or Saito.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/21, 5:37 PM CT
Takashi Saito has continued to work well since his return from an elbow issue, and he is close to reclaiming the closers role, according to the Dodgers Official Website. I think [Saito's] more emotionally equipped for that because he's done it," manager Joe Torre said. "That's been his primarily role. I'm comfortable with [Jonathan Broxton], but again, once Saito gets there, we have a little more length. Brox, I think, has done a fine job in the closer's spot."

Our View: If Broxton is the closer of the future, would it make sense to go back to Saito at this point? Broxton has only been scored on once in his last 11 appearances, so it's not as if he has been struggling. Regardless, it appears that Saito could get a chance to close before the end of the season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 9/13, 6:53 PM CT
As expected, Takashi Saito has been activated from the 60-day DL following his bout with an elbow injury, according to the AP. To make room for Saito on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed outfielder Andruw Jones on the 60-day DL.

Our View: Saito will not resume his closer's role upon his return, and may need a few outings before he regains command of his pitches.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 9/12, 8:24 PM CT
Takashi Saito will be activated for Saturday's game according to MLB.com. Saito, recovering from an elbow injury, is not expected to close immediately. Manager Joe Torre said Saito would first pitch an inning "when it is insignificant, for the first go-round" and would not be used on back-to-back days.

Our View: Jonathan Broxton has closed in his place and has done a solid job despite blowing two saves and losing three games in the role. If Saito is available, he figures to be a solid producer for the rest of the season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/10, 9:11 PM CT
Takashi Saito (elbow) threw on Wednesday and reported no ill effects, according to the Associated Press. “I thought he was very good,” manager Joe Torre said. “He threw a couple of flat breaking balls, but for the most part his fastball had a lot of life to it. And a good number of his sliders were sharp. He said it’s the best he’s felt. And we hope to activate him this weekend.”

Our View: You heard it from the coaches mouth. Look for Saito to be activated from the DL this weekend if he doesn't suffer a setback between now and then, though we would be surprised to see him pick up any save opportunities, at least in the early going.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/7, 5:03 PM CT
Takashi Saito threw 16 pitches without pain in a simulated game on Sunday, and he could be ready to go by next weekend if everything goes right, according to Dodgers.com.

Our View: Jonathan Broxton has been the closer with Saito out, and fantasy owners should keep in mind that there is no promise Saito will regain his ninth inning role as soon as he returns.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 9/6, 11:12 AM CT
Takashi Saito, who is recovering from a right elbow sprain, is slated for a simulated game either Saturday or Sunday, according to the LA Times.

Our View: Manager Joe Torre is hopeful Saito could be available by next weekend. It remains uncertain if he will reclaim his closer's role right away.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 9/5, 11:00 AM CT
Takashi Saito, who is recovering from a right elbow sprain, throw a 32-pitch bullpen session Thursday, according to the LA Times. He did not report any pain or discomfort following the session.

Our View: He is expected to return from the DL when eligible September 12, but it remains uncertain if he will reclaim his closer's role right away.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/3, 10:51 AM CT
Takashi Saito, who is recovering from a sprained right elbow, threw 25 pitches in a pen session Tuesday and the results were encouraging, putting him on track to return from the DL next week, according to the LA Times. Saito said he threw his fastball as hard as he could and that he felt no discomfort. He was especially pleased that he was able to throw his two-seamer without any issues, saying he thought the pitch was potentially more hazardous to his elbow than his slider. He added, "The two-seamer puts stress on the inside part of the elbow, which is the part of the elbow that I hurt, so today was a big day for me."

Our View: Saito is scheduled to pitch on the side Thursday and in a simulated game Saturday. Manager Joe Torre planned to use Saito in a low-key situation in his first outing back, but could reclaim his closer's role if he is able to effectively throw all of his pitches.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/1, 8:49 PM CT
Takashi Saito has been throwing without pain and believes a return from the DL is close, according to MLB.com. "I'm very confident I will be on the mound this season, whether it's next week or the week after -- I need to consult with the doctor, the trainer and the club," said the 38-year-old Saito.

Our View: Saito, out since July 13th with a damaged elbow ligament, threw off-speed pitched for the first time on Monday and reported no pain. At this point he likely wouldn't be returned to the closers role, but that doesn't mean the team couldn't use his arm in the pen.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/14, 9:15 AM CT
Takashi Saito, who is dealing with a right elbow sprain, is optimistic about returning to the Dodgers this season, according to the LA Times. He said, "There's no pain so I'm feeling better about my chances. But the reality is that I hurt my elbow."

Our View: Saito, who could still be forced to undergo season-ending surgery, will continue his current schedule of tossing for two days and resting for one over the next two weeks while gradually increasing the intensity. After two weeks, Saito will be examined by Dr. Neal El Attrache, who will decide whether or not he can pitch off a mound.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/7, 10:57 PM CT
Dodgers closer Takashi Saito had a day of throwing scheduled for Thursday in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Times. He will begin pitching off a mound in the last week of August.

Our View: Saito could be back early in September, but it is unknown if he would immediately go back to closing.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/30, 8:55 AM CT
Takashi Saito's recovery from a sprained elbow ligament could take a little longer than expected, according to the LA Times. He still hopes to pitch again this season and said, "Of course, that's my goal, but I can't give you an exact date."

Our View: Saito began a 10-day period of strengthening muscles around the elbow Tuesday, which is the first phase of a rehab program that could stretch deep into August. Saito said he felt no pain in his elbow but noted that surgery might be a possibility if he suffered any setbacks in his recovery. The 38-year-old reliever is scheduled to begin throwing toward the end of next week.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 7/18, 10:10 AM CT
Takashi Saito noted that opting for surgery on his sprained right elbow remains a possibility, according to the LA Times. Saito said, "There is still a possibility of that happening, but I want to try to rehabilitate over the next six weeks and pitch again this season."

Our View: He will be re-examined following his six-week rehab. Saito has not been told when he can resume throwing.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/16, 7:22 AM CT
Takashi Saito has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his right elbow and will need to rehab for six weeks, according to the LA Daily News. The closer will be re-evaluated after that. "We'll get together with Joe and come up with a plan," GM Ned Colletti said. "Obviously, it is not easy replacing someone like him. As far as trading for a closer, its a lot like trying to acquire a shortstop - it's a premium position and most teams don't carry an excess. We also have candidates within the staff. Many times closers are discovered in times like this. We'll know more about what we'll do short-term in a couple of days. And we'll know more about Saito's status as the rehab develops."

Our View: Jonathan Broxton will close while Saito is out, which could possibly be for the rest of the season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/14, 6:49 PM CT
Takashi Saito received an MRI on Monday, but club officials won't discuss the results until Tuesday, MLB.com reports. The closer has experienced discomfort in his right elbow. The Dodgers are worried that he may need season-ending surgery.

Our View: Jonathan Broxton has been standing on the closer's doorstep for the better part of two seasons, and he would take over the ninth inning. Needless to say, Broxton's fantasy value would skyrocket.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/13, 11:57 PM CT
The Los Angeles Times reports that closer Takashi Saito said Sunday he continued to feel the discomfort in his right elbow. Manager Joe Torre acknowledged that the Japanese import would spend time on the disabled list. "It hasn't really changed since yesterday," said Saito, who is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam today. Jonathan Broxton will be the Dodgers' closer in Saito's absence.

Our View: Matchups would dictate who pitches in the eighth innings of games the Dodgers are leading.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/12, 11:47 PM CT
Takashi Saito left the Saturday night game against the Marlins after suffering a right arm injury. The Japanese import exited with two outs and a 2-2 count on Wes Helms. Brian Falkenborg relieved Saito.

Our View: We will update the injury to the Dodgers closer when more information is available.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/3, 4:38 PM CT
Takashi Saito gave up two ninth inning hits but recorded the third out without surrendering a run and recorded his 14th save of the season.

Our View: The Dodgers haven't given Saito nearly as many opportunities to this point as they did a year ago. The LA closer remains a top-tiered fantasy option.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 7/1, 11:15 PM CT
Dodger reliever Takashi Saito earned his 13th save of the season this evening, closing the 11th inning to give his Dodgers the 7-6 win over Houston. Saito threw just 12 pitches over that final inning, striking out one with one fly out and one ground out to finish the job.

Our View: Saito posted four saves through June and has not allowed a home run since April 14th. He posted 20 strikeouts versus just three walks last month and looks to be getting July starte off on the right foot as well.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/14, 9:18 AM CT
Takashi Saito continues to deal with flu-like symptoms. He wasn't able to pitch over the weekend, and he remained out as of Tuesday. Rest, medicine, and an IV have helped him improve, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Our View: Fantasy owners shouldn't panic about not seeing Saito's name in the box score since May 6. We imagine he'll be back before too much longer.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/6, 10:07 PM CT
Takashi Saito worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Padres. It was Saito's third appearances this season, but his first save opportunity. In three innings of Week 1 work, the right-hander has yet to give up a hit, walk or run -- and has four strike outs, a win and a save to show for it.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/2, 11:16 AM CT
Takashi Saito nailed down his first save of the season on Tuesday, as he hurled a perfect inning against the Giants, with three strikeouts. This was a tremendous start to the season for him.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/29, 8:11 AM CT
Takashi Saito said Friday that there was no doubt in his mind that he would be ready for the season opener, according to the LA Times. Saito has been dinged up this spring, but he worked a scoreless inning in Thursday's exhibition contest.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/25, 8:39 PM CT
Dodgers closer Takashi Saito was able to throw a 26-pitch simulated game on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Saito has struggled throughout the spring to maintain health and, most recently, was forced to miss a scheduled appearance on Monday with tightness in his right buttock. This outing has apparently eased some concerns. "I don't think it affects his ability to pitch," said manager Joe Torre. "It's not pain, just a little tight. He'll get in a game on Thursday [at Anaheim] and Saturday [at the Coliseum against Boston], as opposed to trying to repeat it. We'll see how it feels tomorrow." At his age (38), almost any setback has to be viewed with a flavor of worry. He has pitched only four competitive innings during camp, having been slowed by a previous calf muscle strain, and he has a 9.00 ERA in the work he has produced. Saito's clearly behind for opening day, having been unable to pitch on consecutive days, so his use in early games figures to be limited.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 3/24, 6:31 PM CT
Two days after a poor performance, Takashi Saito was scratched from a scheduled appearance on Monday by what is being described as a tight right buttock. Saito has dealt with a few health issues this spring, and given the fact that he is almost 40 years old, hopefully those of you who chose Saito also had the foresight to roster Jonathan Broxton as it is starting to seem like he might be needed to close, at least on occasion, this season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/23, 1:39 PM CT
Takashi Saito was rocked for three runs on four hits (one home run) over his lone inning of work against the Angels on Saturday, and was dealt his first loss of the spring. His ERA climbed to 9.00 and the Dodgers much be concerned about Saito right now, who is their projected closer.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/16, 7:58 AM CT
Takashi Saito made his spring exhibition debut on Saturday, according to the LA Times. "I'm happy," pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said. "The main thing for me is he didn't feel any [pain]." Saito had been out all spring with a strained calf, but barring a setback, he should be ready for opening day.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 3/12, 4:46 PM CT
Takashi Saito threw a pain-free batting practice Wednesday. The closer has dealt with a calf injury all spring, but the tightness has apparently gone away. "My condition is very good," Saito said on MLB.com through a translator. "After I threw the bullpen last time, I felt very good. Before that, I felt some tightness in the calf, but I didn't feel that at all." Saito's numbers the last two years have been astounding, but he is 38 and also had shoulder problems last year. He is a health risk entering the season.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 3/10, 5:29 PM CT
Takashi Saito, dealing with a strained calf, threw a bullpen session on Monday and looked great, and the team now hopes that he will be able to face hitters on Wednesday, this according to MLB.com. Saito still has plenty of time to get his arm in shape to close. If for some reason he is unable to go come opening day, the Dodgers will turn to fireballer Jonathan Broxton, though after a 1.40 ERA and 0.72 WHIP last season, the team certainly is in no hurry to get rid of Saito.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/8, 8:08 AM CT
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Friday that he wasn't sure how much longer Takashi Saito would be held out of game action and made no assurances that Saito would be ready to go on opening day, according to the LA Times. The closer threw a side session Friday but wasn't completely free of pain in his ailing calf. Torre said Saito would not pitch in a game until he's 100 percent healthy. He still has time to prepare for opening day, but he'll have to return to action relatively soon to pull it off.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/2, 8:36 AM CT
Takashi Saito was slated to make his spring debut in Tuesday's game, but he's probably not going to make it into that contest now, according to the LA Times. He came down with a cramp in his right calf on Saturday, which forced him to cut his throwing session short. He was slowed last spring by the same problem, but at this time, the Dodgers aren't concerned about the ailment. They'll just let him rest for a couple of days and hope it goes away.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 2/13, 2:11 PM CT
Takashi Saito agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract Wednesday. Saito, who can earn an additional $200,000 in incentives, posted a 1.40 ERA while recording 39 saves in 43 chances with the Dodgers last season. The Dodgers closer has been one of the best relievers in baseball over the last two years, though the fact that he dealt with shoulder problems at the end of last year and he'll turn 38 tomorrow should at least give fantasy owners a bit of pause.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 2/6, 9:02 AM CT
Takashi Saito is close to signing a one-year deal with the Dodgers and should be under contract by spring training, a team source told the LA Times. The closer is under the team's control.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/26, 5:05 AM CT
Takashi Saito (shoulder) should be available on Thursday, Grady Little told the AP. "He's great," Little said. "He's ready to go. He threw off the mound today and it was very positive."
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/25, 12:01 PM CT
Manager Grady Little has said that Takashi Saito, who has missed the past six games with a stiff right shoulder, could return to action today, according to the LA Times. Saito, however, isn't so confident. "I think I can throw, but I'm scared of how my body will react to that, so I don't want to make any declarative statements," Saito said. In the event that Saito is unable to return, Jonathan Broxton will continue handling the ninth-inning duties.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/25, 5:24 AM CT
Takashi Saito (shoulder) played catch Tuesday and the Dodgers think he might return soon, the AP reports. "I like the way he felt playing catch," manager Grady Little said. "I feel pretty optimistic about (Saito pitching) tomorrow or Thursday." Saito is anxious. "It has been five days of inactivity," he said through an interpreter. "I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with the mound."
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 7/24, 10:36 AM CT
An MRI exam on Takashi Saito's right shoulder revealed no structural damage, according to the LA Times. However, it's still unclear as to when Saito will be able to return to the mound. "I've been out for five days, so I've lost my feeling for the mound," he said. "I'm hoping I can get back in the relatively near future." Saito will play catch today to test his arm.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/23, 11:57 PM CT
Takashi Saito, who has not been available the last four games, had an MRI exam on his ailing shoulder blade Monday morning, according to the AP. "They didn't find any damage," manager Grady Little said. "He's flying back here today and hopefully he'll be ready to pitch tomorrow. It does concern us, but I think he'll be fine."

Our View: Well at least it's nothing serious. He should be back closing games before the weekend.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/22, 11:38 PM CT
Takashi Saito was sidelined for the fourth straight day on Sunday with tightness in his right shoulder, according to the AP. He's set to undergo an MRI on Monday, at which point we should get a better idea as to when he'll be ready to return.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/21, 1:19 AM CT
Takashi Saito was unable to pitch on Friday for the second straight day due to tightness in his right shoulder, according to the AP. It's unclear when he'll be ready to pitch again. Should a save opportunity arise and Saito not be available, Jonathan Broxton would get the nod.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 6/7, 10:39 AM CT
Takashi Saito, who has been dealing with a sore left hamstring, should be available to return on Friday when the Dodgers open up a series against the Blue Jays, according to the LA Times. He threw off a bullpen mound and will do some fielding drills today. Saito will step back into the closer role upon his return.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/6, 10:40 AM CT
Takashi Saito threw on flat ground Tuesday to test his sore left hamstring, and he does not expect to pitch in the final two games of the Dodgers' series against the Padres, according to the LA Times. However, Saito did note that his hamstring has been getting better each day.
Takashi Saito, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/5, 10:34 AM CT
Takashi Saito, who is dealing with tightness in his left hamstring, is scheduled to do some light throwing today. The Dodgers are hoping the reliever will be sidelined for only a couple of days, and there are no plans to have him undergo an MRI, according to the LA Times. "I'm not too clear as to when a concrete timetable will be set to get me back on the mound," Saito said through an interpreter. "It bothers me when I try to finish off a pitch, especially twisting. Takashi Saito has tightness in his left hamstring and may miss a key three-game NL West series in San Diego that starts Tuesday night, according to the AP. Saito was unavailable to pitch Monday night in Pittsburgh. Manager Grady Little expects him to be sidelined for two to three days "in a best-case scenario." "Hopefully, Saito won't be out but for a few days, but we don't know yet," Little said. The Dodgers aren't considering putting Saito on the 15-day DL because they expect him to be ready long before that. However, they do plan to make a move Tuesday to add another pitcher.

Takashi Saito was pulled from the ninth inning of Sunday's game with a tight left hamstring. However, the injury is not believed to be serious, according to the AP. "He's mature enough to let us know as soon as something like that happens," manager Grady Little said. "I don't know how serious it is, but we feel like he informed us in time (to prevent a severe injury). We'll look at it tomorrow and see how it is, but it's a plus he told us that quickly." Joe Beimel came on to get the final two outs in the ninth to pick up the save. Jonathan Broxton had already been used. If Saito were to need to sit out a few games, Broxton would be first in line for saves.
