Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/8, 6:51 PM CT
Matt Murton has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Our View: Murton is a career .287 hitter in 945 at-bats, and will provide some nice outfield depth for the Rockies down the stretch.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/26, 6:27 PM CT
One day after being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs, Matt Murton has been designated for assignment by the Rockies.

Our View: Murton had been hitting .321 at Colorado Springs, and could actually get claimed off waivers. In 945 major league at-bats, he has a career average of .287, so we likely have not seen the last of him.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesTuesday 8/25, 8:06 PM CT
Matt Murton has been recalled by the Colorado Rockies, according to the Denver Post. Murton will assume a backup role for the team.

Our View: Murton hit .267 with the Rockies when he was with the team earlier this season, but the team needed outfield help with Dexter Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez both injured. He could see some at-bats while those players are out, but when they return he will struggle to get on the field.

According to the Denver Post, the Rockies have optioned outfielder Matt Murton to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Murton was sent down to make room for the call-up of Carlos Gonzalez.

Our View: Murton was hitting .267 as a backup outfielder for the Rockies this season, so he won't be missed by fantasy owners. He has little chance to make any fantasy impact the rest of this season, as he is behind a long list of players on the depth chart.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/29, 1:59 PM CT
The Rockies have called up outfielder Matt Murton from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Our View: The Rockies already have a crowded outfield, and Murton is really around just to be an extra right-handed bat on the bench. He has no fantasy value.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesMonday 3/30, 2:54 PM CT
Matt Murton has been optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs by the Rockies, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Murton was unable to earn a spot in the Rockies' crowded outfield out of spring training, and is only worth holding in deeper NL-only leagues right now.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/4, 12:14 PM CT
Matt Murton has been dealt from the Athletics to the Rockies in exchange for infielder Corey Wimberly, according to MLBTradeRumors.com.

Matt Murton has been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, according to the AP. The team called up outfielder Eric Patterson from Sacramento as the corresponding move.

Our View: Murton was demoted as he only hit .100 (3-for-30) over nine games with the Athletics since being acquired from the Cubs.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/26, 5:54 PM CT
A's outfielder Matt Murton has struggled since going to Oakland, and after going 0-for-4 today, he is now hitting just .100 since being traded.

Our View: It's too early to give up on Murton yet if you have him on your fantasy squad, but it's not too early to be concerned, as his overall numbers are poor. He is hitting under .200 on the year overall.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesThursday 7/17, 2:57 PM CT
The Tampa Tribune lists A's outfielder Matt Murton as a potential trade target for the Rays.

Our View: The source states that Murton would provide the Rays with the right-handed outfield bat they covet. Murton was recently dealt to Oakland as part of the package that sent Rich Harden to Chicago.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/12, 12:08 AM CT
Matt Murton started in left field for his new team on Friday. He finished the game 1-for-5 with two RBI.

Our View: Let's hope Murton can turn it around in Oakland, as he never really fit in with the Cubs. He batted in the No. 2 hole on Friday. Take a wait-and-see approach as he won't likely become a fantasy contributor overnight.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/11, 6:21 PM CT
Matt Murton will join the Athletics on Friday. He was traded to Oakland in the Rich Harden deal. To make room for Murton, the A’s optioned infielder Wes Bankston to Sacramento. Bankston hit .294 with one home run and nine RBI in nine games with Oakland.

Our View: Murton should see plenty of at-bats while playing the corner outfield spots for the Athletics. He could see at-bats immediately.

As expected, the Cubs recalled Matt Murton from Triple-A Iowa Tuesday. He replaced Eric Patterson on the roster. Murton has three hits in 14 at-bats this year with the Cubbies and a .298 average with one homer in 54 games with Iowa.

Our View: Reed Johnson will continue to get the lion's share of playing time in left while Alfonso Soriano is out, even though in our opinion Murton is a much better option. On days where the opposing team has a lefty on the mound, Murton should get some starts in left, with Johnson sliding over to center.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesTuesday 6/17, 9:08 AM CT
Matt Murton is expected to get called up by the Cubs prior to tonight's game against the Rays, according to the Chicago Tribune. Eric Patterson is also expected to be sent down to make room for Murton.

Our View: Manager Lou Piniella needs a corner outfielder and a right-handed hitter, that has been lacking since Alfonso Soriano landed on the DL. Murton is a career .296 hitter in the majors, and is worth a look in NL-only leagues as a filler until Soriano returns.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesThursday 5/1, 1:34 PM CT
Matt Murton has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa, according to the AP. Alfonso Soriano has been activated from the DL today, and Murton was seen as expendable.

Our View: Murton held no fantasy value prior to his demotion, while fighting for playing time in a crowded and talented Cubs' outfield.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesThursday 5/1, 10:52 AM CT
Matt Murton is expected to get sent down to Triple-A when the team activates Alfonso Soriano from the DL on Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesSaturday 4/19, 11:35 AM CT
The Chicago Cubs have recalled OF Matt Murton from Triple-A Iowa and optioned IF Eric Patterson back to Triple-A affiliate, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Cubs sent Murton to Iowa on March 30 when spring training ended despite a strong performance. Now he'll rejoin the club and make another go at sticking on the MLB roster. Patterson was originally recalled from Iowa on Wednesday after Alfonso Soriano was sent to the DL with a strained calf muscle.

Following the trade for Reed Johnson, Matt Murton is in jeopardy of not making the opening day roster, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Murton could be sent down to the minors or be part of a last-minute trade. The news should come as little surprise or as much of a blow to fantasy clubs.
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesFriday 1/25, 10:36 AM CT
Padres GM Kevin Towers has had recent communications with the Cubs and Pirates regarding Matt Murton and former Padre Xavier Nady, respectively, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. “With Fukudome in Chicago, Murton might be available,” Towers said. “We've exchanged a few more e-mails with the Pirates on Nady, but I don't know if we match up very well for a trade.” The Padres have an opening for a corner outfielder right now, as reserve Scott Hairston sits atop the depth chart in left field. It wouldn't be a surprise at all if they added a more proven veteran before spring training.

Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/2, 8:00 AM CT
Matt Murton was 0-for-2 in the No. 2 spot on Thursday, the Cubs official site reports. Others who might see time there include Jacque Jones, Mark DeRosa, Cesar Izturis and Michael Barrett. "When the season starts, I don't like to experiment," manager Lou Piniella said. "Spring Training is as good a place as any to move people around and see what they're capable of doing."
Matt Murton, LF, Colorado RockiesTuesday 8/8, 8:39 AM CT
Matt Murton has bounced back from a previous slump to hit .404 (23-for-57) with 17 RBI in the last 19 games, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Murton is hitting .295 overall on the year to go with six homers and 39 RBI.
