Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 3/12, 7:16 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer only gave up two hits over four scoreless innings in Friday's 9-2 win over the Rockies in the Cactus League. He had no walks or strikeouts.

Our View: This strong performance should help Wellemeyer's chances to claiming a spot in San Francisco's rotation. He is trying to bounce back after holding a dismal 5.28 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in an injury-spoiled 2009 campaign with St. Louis.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/10, 11:46 AM CT
If Todd Wellemeyer makes the Giants' major league roster this season, he will make over $1 million, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: Wellemeyer is coming off of a year where he experienced shoulder problems and posted a 5.89 ERA and mind-numbing 1.77 WHIP in 122.1 innings. He'll be lucky to make the club as the Giants' mop-up man.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/10, 10:54 AM CT
According to Mychael Urban of CSN, the Giants have signed former Cardinal Todd Wellemeyer to a minor-league contract.

Our View: Congratulations? With the Giants having one of the best rotations in all of baseball, Wellemeyer will likely have to return to relieving to have any shot at making the team. Stay tuned.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 2/9, 4:24 PM CT
Despite recent speculation to the contrary, the Rockies are not interested in free agent righty Todd Wellemeyer, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Our View: Wellemeyer supposedly has a minor league offer from the Giants currently on the table. After the way he stunk up the joint last season, it might be the best he can do.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 2/8, 8:27 PM CT
The Giants have offered Todd Wellemeyer a minor league deal, according to the Mercury News.

Our View: Wellemeyer held a dismal 5.89 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 122.1 innings (21 starts) with St. Louis in 2009, and the 31-year-old hurler is unlikely going to get a strong deal elsewhere.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 2/5, 1:43 PM CT
The New York Post is reporting that the Mets could sign former Cardinals pitcher Todd Wellemeyer.

Our View: So this is what happens when you strike out on literally every single free agent pitcher that didn't have a 5.89 ERA in 2009? This being the Mets we're talking about, however, we are probably just lucky they don't want him to play first base.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 2/5, 9:38 AM CT
Former Cardinals starter Todd Wellemeyer says the Mets, Giants and Rockies have all expressed interest in his services this offseason, and that he expects to sign somewhere in the next few days, according to InsideSTL.com's Tim McKernan.

Our View: Wellemeyer was an unmitigated disaster for the Redbirds last season, and could have a return to the bullpen in his future. Expect any deal he signs to be a minor league one.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 2/4, 12:24 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer is drawing attention from the Rockies, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Wellemeyer, who went 7-10 with 5.89 ERA in 28 games (21 starts) with the Cardinals last season, will likely serve as a middle reliever and potential insurance as a starting pitcher wherever he ends up, though the thin Colorado air certainly would not help out his numbers.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/14, 11:01 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was roughed up for six earned runs on nine hits over four innings in Monday's 11-6 win over the Marlins at Busch Stadium. He had one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View: Wellemeyer struggled tonight, but the Cardinals scored enough runs for him to end the night with a no-decision. He was making a spot-start in place of John Smoltz (shoulder tendinitis).
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/3, 2:06 PM CT
As expected, Todd Wellemeyer was activated off the 15-day disabled list by the Cardinals on Thursday.

Our View: He will join the team's bullpen. In 23 appearances this season (20 starts), Wellemeyer is 7-9 with a 5.57 ERA.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/2, 8:02 PM CT
MLB.com reports that right-hander Todd Wellemeyer (elbow) is set to rejoin the Cardinals on Thursday.

Our View: Wellemeyer, out since August 4th with inflammation in his pitching elbow, got rocked in a rehab start on Monday but fared much better in Wednesday's stint. He allowed just one hit and struck out three in 1.2 innings. The Cardinals plan on giving him a day or two of rest before activating him. When he gets the call he will head to the bullpen and likely be used only in mop-up situations.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/1, 12:49 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of MLB.com's B.J.Rains, Cardinals' pitcher Todd Wellemeyer got rocked in his rehab appearance for Triple-A Memphis on Monday. Wellemeyer lasted only 0.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits.

Our View: Any thought that Wellemeyer would come back to the Cards' rotation for the last month of the season looks like it was answered last night. Wellemeyer will have trouble cracking the postseason roster for the Cards, and his tenure is St. Louis will be up after this season.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/29, 4:43 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer (elbow inflammation) will pitch out of Triple-A Memphis' bullpen this Monday and Wednesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Wellemeyer said that he understands he and his 5.67 ERA will likely not be back in the Cardinals rotation this season, but that he is "elated" to be pitching in relief and that he'll do "anything it takes" to get the team to the playoffs.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/23, 9:51 AM CT
The Cardinals have not laid out a time table for Todd Wellemeyer's (elbow inflammation) return from the disabled list, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Likely because they don't want him to come back. He is scheduled to throw a side-session on Tuesday, though, and could head out on a rehab assignment soon. Despite his 7-9 record and 5.67 ERA, the team could be forced to reinsert him into their rotation if Kyle Lohse's groin injury lingers.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/16, 1:20 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Cardinals' starter Todd Wellemeyer has been cleared to resume throwing. Wellemeyer will not accompany the team on its upcoming road trip, but he will join the team when they return home.

Our View: Mitchell Boggs is scheduled to make another start in place of Wellemeyer on Tuesday, and the team hasn't announced any plans for their fifth starter after that. If Wellemeyer does return to the rotation, he will still have very little fantasy value, as he has struggled badly for much of this season.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/11, 5:00 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer has "apparently" been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Should that read "right elbow inflammation"? Wellemeyer probably is actually hurt, but it would certainly make sense for the team to feel compelled to make up an injury to keep the struggling righty (5.67 ERA, 1.75 WHIP) out of the rotation. Look for Mitchell Boggs, who is starting in his place tonight, to keep the spot for at least the foreseeable future.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 8/10, 4:57 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer has been scratched from Tuesday's start due to discomfort and inflammation in his right elbow, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: Mitchell Boggs will make a spot-start in his absence. There is belief that Wellemeyer could land on the DL.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/8, 5:09 PM CT
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that struggling starter Todd Wellemeyer will return to the Cardinals' starting rotation next Tuesday.

Our View: This is a horrible move by the Cardinals. Wellemeyer has been worthless this season, but for some reason the Cardinals (excuse the horrible pun) keep going back to the well. It likely has to do with the fact that they don't want to pay his salary while he rides the pine (a move the Cards typically make), so they'll place him in a spot where he has done the team much more harm than good. It doesn't make sense, but Wellemeyer now brings his 5.67 ERA back to the rotation. By no means should he be on your fantasy team.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/28, 5:29 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the St. Louis Cardinals have announced that they will move struggling starter Todd Wellemeyer to the bullpen, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Mitchell Boggs will be recalled to take Wellemeyer's spot in the rotation on Friday.

Our View: Wellemeyer has been awful in his last several starts, and this move has been expected for about a week. Anyone still holding onto him should look for another option at this point, as any value he had as a starter is gone now that he is in the pen.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/28, 8:45 AM CT
Struggling starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer isn't likely to make his next scheduled start on Friday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: What was widely expected could become official by Tuesday afternoon. Mitchell Boggs was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night at Triple-A Memphis, heavily suggesting he will take Wellemeyer's turn on Friday.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/26, 4:00 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was disappointing again on Sunday as the Cardinals got routed by the Phillies 9-2. Wellemeyer went 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits while walking one and striking out three. He is 7-9 on the season.

Our View: The Cardinals can't afford to keep running Wellemeyer out there, as he doesn't even give them a chance to win games anymore. Look for the Birds to make a move, with the most likely candidate being Mitchell Boggs to take over Wellemeyer's spot.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/21, 10:31 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer, again, didn't give the Cardinals much of a chance to win on Tuesday night, surrendering five runs in just 4.1 innings of a 11-6 Houston blowout.

Our View: The Todalion was a nice story in 2009, going 13-9 with a sub-4.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, but is simply one of the worst starters in the National League this season. As the Cardinals fight for the central division crown, he isn't likely to stay in the rotation much longer.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/8, 11:05 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer reverted to his losing ways on Monday, blowing a three run lead and taking a no-decision as the Brewers beat the Birds 5-4 at home.

Our View: After earning himself a temporary reprieve last Thursday, Wellemeyer may have finally pitched his way out of the Cardinals rotation on Wednesday. Handed a three-run lead in the fourth inning, he blew it before fans could even settle into their seats in the bottom of the fourth. With Kyle Lohse set to return this Sunday, either Wellemeyer or Brad Thompson is getting bounced from the rotation, with Wellemeyer being the leading candidate. He has no fantasy value.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/2, 8:54 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer may have saved his rotation spot Thursday night, pitching 7.1 effective innings against the San Francisco Giants, as the Cardinals won 5-2 in St. Louis.

Our View: Unfortunately for Wellemeyer, one good start is just one good start. He still has a string of bad outings to atone for, and isn't a great option for spot starting.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/22, 9:52 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was roughed up for five earned runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings in Monday's 6-4 loss at the Mets. He issued four walks with two strikeouts.

Our View: Wellemeyer now has a losing record at 6-7, and his ERA climbs to 5.53. He is 1-3 over five starts in June, after going 4-2 in May. He will be an unstable fantasy option for his next trip to the mound.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 6/12, 11:45 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer has told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that his fastball is topping out 5-6 MPH slower than it did in 2008.

Our View: This would certainly explain his greatly regressed numbers. Until he re-finds those lost MPHs, he probably shouldn't be finding a place on your roster.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/11, 2:13 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was largely ineffective again for the Cardinals on Thursday, surrendering 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings as the Cards won 6-5. He gave up two home runs and struck out only one.

Our View: After a solid 2008 season in which he finished with a 3.71 ERA, Wellemeyer has regressed in 2009 and is no longer much of a fantasy option. If you think he has a good matchup, he could be an acceptable spot starter, but he is no longer worth a roster spot at this point.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/6, 10:56 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer struggled for the second straight start on Saturday as the Cardinals fell to the Rockies 10-1. Wellemeyer went seven innings and allowed six runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six. His record now sits at 5-6 on the year.

Our View: It looked like Wellemeyer had turned it around after a slow start, but he has regressed in his last two starts. His fantasy value is slipping, and he is probably only an option in NL-only leagues unless he turns it around again.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/1, 11:13 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits over five innings in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Reds at Busch Stadium. He had two walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: His two-game winning streak ended, and he falls to 5-5 for the season. Four of his losses came at home.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 5/27, 3:08 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer allowed two earned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's close 3-2 win at Milwaukee. He issued one walk and fired five strikeouts.

Our View: It was a solid outing for Wellemeyer as he claims his fifth win of 2009. Three of those wins came on the road, and he tied his season-high with five strikeouts.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 5/22, 11:23 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer fired six shutout innings against the Royals in a 5-0 win on Friday. He scattered four hits and three walks while striking out three hitters.

Our View: This was certainly an improvement over his last start in which he walked seven hitters. He has skated by most of the season and his base numbers are not worthy of a look in most formats.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/17, 6:13 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer struggled his way through 5.2 innings while suffering his fourth loss of the season in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Brewers. He only allowed three hits, but walked seven while allowing four runs in the game.

Our View: Wellemeyer has pitched poorly more often than not this season, and he is not likely to make a positive fantasy impact over the course of the season.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/12, 8:49 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was torched by the Pirates on Tuesday. He allowed seven runs on nine hits and three walks over just 4.1 innings and allowed two home runs. He took the loss as the Cardinals fell 7-1 to the Pirates.

Our View: Wellemeyer is now 3-3 on the season and has had a roller coaster start to the year. In his three wins he was very good, but he was shelled in his other four starts. The Cardinals and fantasy owners would like to see some consistency.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/7, 3:31 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer only allowed two earned runs on four hits over seven innings of work in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Pirates at Busch Stadium. He issued three walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Other than the three free passes, it was a strong outing for Wellemeyer as he improves to 3-2 over six starts. He has won back-to-back starts, allowing two runs in both.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 5/1, 8:48 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer pitched his best game of the season on Friday as he helped the Cardinals beat the Nationls 6-2. Wellemeyer went seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Wellemeyer had been struggling, so this outing will go a long way in helping him regain his confidence. It may have been against the lowly Nationals, but it could be just what Wellemeyer needed to get his season back on track.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/26, 6:18 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer got knocked around again on Sunday and was handed his second loss of the season as the Cardinals were whipped by the Cubs 10-3. He allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks over just five innings.

Our View: Wellemeyer has been the Cardinals' worst starter this season after being one of their best in 2008. Something doesn't look right and he's getting hit early and often. He needed 103 pitched to get through five on Sunday and if he doesn't right the ship soon he could find himself as the odd man out when Chris Carpenter returns.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/20, 10:42 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Todd Wellemeyer will start on Tuesday for the Cardinals after being rained out of his scheduled start against the Cubs on Sunday. Wellemeyer will be pitching on six days rest, but said he will throw a little Monday to stay sharp.

Our View: Wellemayer may have lucked out here, as he gets to pitch against a struggling Mets team instead of the red-hot Cubs lineup. His last start was a good one, so hopefully he stays on track after being pushed back a few days.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/13, 11:26 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer allowed only one run in seven innings of work on Monday as the Cardinals prevailed over the Diamondbacks 2-1. He scattered seven hits while striking out four.

Our View: Wellemeyer pitched poorly in his initial start when he allowed 12 hits in five innings. He still allowed 11 fly balls to just four ground balls, but he was able to keep the ball in the park. He remains a limited fantasy option going forward.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/13, 2:00 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer will get the start tonight in the Cardinals' first road game of the season at Arizona. Wellemeyer got hit hard in his first outing of the season by the Pirates, but according to MLB.com he has identified a mechanical issue and has adjusted accordingly.

Our View: Wellemeyer struggled through the entire spring and in his first start for the Cards in the regular season. He said he has tweaked his mechanics a bit, so tonight's start should be a good indication of how he will pitch in the future.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/9, 12:14 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer got worked over by a relatively thin Pirates lineup on Wednesday. He allowed a shocking 12 hits and two walks over five innings and was tagged with five runs and the loss.

Our View: Wellemeyer had a breakout season last year, but was roughed up all spring. He may be tipping his pitches or have a flaw in his mechanics, because this is not the starter Cards fans saw last year.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 3/16, 4:15 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer lasted five innings in Monday's loss to the Tigers, but he allowed four runs on six hits, including two home runs, and a walk, while striking out three.

Our View: Wellemeyer has not been very impressive this spring, but he is not in danger of losing his spot in the rotation. The former reliever developed into a bit of a workhorse last season while making 32 starts for the Cardinals and posting a 3.71 ERA.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 1/19, 4:12 PM CT
Terms of Todd Wellemeyer's deal with the Cardinals Monday have been disclosed. According to the Associated Press, Wellemeyer signed his one-year deal for a reported $4.05 million.

Our View: Wellemeyer's spot in the rotation depends greatly upon the rehabbing Chris Carpenter's availability. Assuming Carpenter is ready to go on Opening Day, Wellemeyer will likely assume the No. 4 role, behind Adam Wainwright and Kyle Lohse. However, should the former Cy Young winner miss some time, Wellemeyer may be penciled in as high as the No. 2 slot, depending on Lohse's performance after signing a big free-agent deal last fall.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 1/19, 12:08 PM CT
The Cardinals have avoided salary arbitration with hurler Todd Wellemeyer as he agreed to terms on a new deal, according to the Associated Press. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View: The 30-year-old nailed down 13 wins with a favorable 1.25 WHIP over 191.1 innings in his first year as a starter with the Cardinals in 2008. He should be more comfortable in the rotation in 2009, and could surpass 200 innings.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 1/17, 8:03 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Cardinals are close to agreeing on a deal with starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer. A year away from being a free agent, Wellemeyer is currently eligible for arbitration, which makes finalizing the deal all the more critical for the Cardinals.

Our View: Wellemeyer, solid as a No. 4 starter in his career year a season ago, is a young workhorse who has the potential to breeze past 200 innings pitched in 2009. His strikeout-to-walk ratio (134:62) leaves little to be desired, but Wellemeyer's velocity allows him to escape a jam at any time.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/22, 10:48 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer fell to 12-9 after allowing nine hits, four walks and three runs to the D'backs. Wellemeyer had a solid night in the strikeout department with seven.

Our View: Wellemeyer is putting the finishing touches on a pretty remarkable campaign given that he entered the year with just 11 career starts. With a 3.69 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP, Wellemeyer has been a tremendous asset in NL-only leagues as well as a great weapon in mixed leagues.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/17, 8:55 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer only gave up three runs in his six innings against the Reds Wednesday night but suffered his eighth loss of the year, 4-0.

Our View: Wellmeyer has had a great season winning 12 games so far and an ERA of 3.63 but in his last five starts the Cardinals could only muster seven runs. In those five starts Wellmeyer has only won one.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/11, 11:02 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer didn't allow an earned run on Thursday night but he still suffered his seventh loss of the year in the Cardinals 3-2 loss to the Cubs. Wellemeyer allowed two runs, both unearned, over five innings of work.

Our View: Wellemeyer has 12 wins and a 3.63 ERA, not to mention a strong 1.23 WHIP, in what has been a great season, one that has continued over his last three starts as he has produced a 1.80 ERA despite a 1-2 record.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/6, 8:51 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer went eight innings for the win on Saturday against the Marlins. He gave up three runs, all on home runs, while striking out seven. He is now 12-6 on the season.

Our View: Wellemeyer has been a pleasant surprise this season if only for the fact that he has hurled 168.1 innings. He lowered his ERA to 3.74 on Saturday.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/31, 4:20 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer took a tough loss on Sunday. He held the Astros to four hits and one run over seven innings, and his teammates were unable to score. Wellemeyer sunk to 11-6. He went 3-2 with a 2.58 ERA over six starts in August.

Our View: Wellemeyer continues to have a solid season and is a decent back-end option for fantasy owners in mixed leagues. Dave Duncan has worked wonders here.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/20, 10:16 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer won his third game in as many starts, running his record to 11-4 as the Cardinals beat Pittsburgh 11-2. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out five.

Our View: Wellemeyer has been pitching much better as of late after he went through a rough patch toward the beginning of July. He is back to being someone fantasy owners can depend on.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 8/14, 8:54 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer earned his tenth victory of the season with a solid outing as the Cardinals downed the Marlins 3-0. Wellemeyer went 7.2 innings and did not allow a run while allowing three hits and striking out three.

Our View: Wellemeyer's ERA drops to 3.79, and he has won his last two decisions. Consider him someone that can be useful in mixed leagues.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/9, 7:05 PM CT
The Cardinals enjoyed a rather productive day at Wrigley this afternoon, putting a convincing 12-3 win on the board versus the Cubs. For St. Louis, the work of RHP Todd Wellemeyer served as the catalyst for success, pitching 6 2/3 innings to allow three runs (all earned) on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts on the day.

Our View: Wellemeyer gets the win and moves to 9-4 on the season, sitting with a 4.01 ERA. He had suffered three consecutive no-decision finishes coming in, allowing just five combined runs over those starts. Today he gets the spoils of victory and looks to be improving as an arm to fear.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/3, 10:47 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer continued to rebound from some recent poor work on the hill giving up just one run over six innings against the Phillies.

Our View: Wellemeyer wasn't involved in the decision on this night and has posted a 2.65 ERA over his last three starts as he continues to be a mildly successful depth play in mixed leagues.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/29, 9:33 PM CT
Cards hurler Todd Wellemeyer threw a good ballgame against the Braves, going six innings and allowing two earned runs on eight hits.

Our View: Wellemeyer has not been very good since his outstanding May, but this was a nice start for the former reliever. He has thrown more innings this year than he ever has, however, so how long he can keep up the pace is questionable.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/19, 6:17 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer allowed five runs in the first two innings Saturday but then settled in, holding the Padres scoreless over the next 4 1/3 frames to pick up his eighth win in the Cards' 6-5 victory.

Our View: Wellemeyer has had a rough go of it in July, and Saturday's outing was shaping up to be another dud. He gutted it out, though, and hopefully he can carry the positive momentum into his next outing.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 7/14, 8:07 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer noted that he is starting to get his feel back following a bout with elbow irritation, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He compared his mechanics to a golfer's swing and said, "Right now I’m trying to hit it 350 yards and I’m forcing it. I need that nice easy swing, get everything going easy first and then I turn it up a notch."

Our View: Wellemeyer is 7-4, but has not registered a win over his last five starts, and hasn't topped three strikeouts in any outing over that span. It sounds like he could get back on track in the second half however, and is worth holding onto.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/6, 3:59 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was in trouble all day against the Cubs. He scattered nine hits over five innings. However, the Cubs left several men on base and the starter gave up just three runs.

Our View: Wellemeyer has not had a win in over a month after starting the year very strong. The 29 year old has thrown nearly 100 innings thus far in 2008. His previous high in a season came last year at just 79.1 innings.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/1, 10:41 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was rocked for six earned runs on 12 hits over five innings in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Mets, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: He drops to 7-3, and has lost two of his last three starts. He allowed eight runs in his previous loss.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/26, 3:51 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer hurled five scoreless innings with four hits allowed in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Tigers, with no walks and three strikeouts. The game took 10 innings to decide, and was tied at zero when Wellemeyer left the game. The game ended on a walkoff walk with the bases loaded to Clete Thomas (given up by Mike Parisi).

Our View: He left the game with a no decision and would have won if not for poor run support from the Cardinals' bats.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/21, 4:18 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday and is optimistic he can return to the rotation on Thursday, according to MLB.com. "Everything felt pretty good," he said. "My slider felt back to normal. I was getting out over it. Felt great." Wellemeyer has missed two of his last three starts with elbow stiffness.

Our View: Manager Tony La Russa said that if Wellemeyer doesn't start in Detroit Thursday that he'll certainly be slotted in next weekend in KC.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/21, 10:38 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer will throw a bullpen session on Saturday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He said, "It's better than it has been, but it's hard to say exactly where I stand until after the next throw." This will be his first session since experiencing elbow stiffness during his June 13 start against the Phillies.

Our View: Pitching coach Dave Duncan is hopeful for Wellemeyer to make a start against the Tigers (three-game series starts June 24), but conceded that a lot will depend on his next side session. Anything less than a clean throw will take him out of consideration and force the Cardinals to consider placing him on the DL retroactive to June 14.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 6/18, 7:50 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Todd Wellemeyer is going to miss his scheduled start on Thursday due to inflammation in his right elbow, but the team believes it will be the only start he misses, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Wellemeyer said there was not a significant improvement in his elbow from his last start and now. Erring on the side of caution, he decided it would not be best for him to pitch through the injury. However, Wellemeyer does not think he will miss his next start, though he was not about to submit any certainties for the immediate future.

Todd Wellemeyer's spot in the rotation will be skipped Thursday, as the righty needs some time to rest his irritated elbow, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Wellemeyer returned from irritation and impingement last week after missing a start but was still experiencing soreness. Anthony Reyes will start in his place Thursday.

Our View: At this point the Cards plan on Wellemeyer returning to the rotation next week. That seems like a pretty optimistic stance.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/16, 10:33 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer is listed as the Cardinals' starter for Thursday, but the team will wait until he completes a Tuesday bullpen to make an exact decision, as he has been suffering from elbow and forearm pain, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The team will pull him back if any issue arises regarding his elbow. Anthony Reyes and Kyle Lohse are the top candidates to pitch Thursday if Wellemeyer is unable to go. He is enjoying a strong campaign with a 7-2 record and a 3.67 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/15, 9:49 AM CT
According to the St Louis Post Dispatch, starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer was examined Saturday morning after admitting to elbow and forearm discomfort during and after Friday night's 10-out appearance against the Philadelphia Phillies. Wellemeyer described himself as "gator-arming" the ball in his last two innings as he found it impossible to straighten his elbow. "If it doesn't improve, I'm telling them I can't pitch," he said. "I'm not going out there to be a hero."

Our View: He said the condition had eased Saturday but that some of the tightness that radiated from the elbow remained. Wellemeyer is scheduled to throw a side session Tuesday, but his next start could be in question if the condition does not improve significantly.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 6/13, 11:32 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer got two easy outs to start the game, but then ran into the bats of Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell who hit back-to-back-to-back home runs and the rout was on. The three consecutive home runs was the seventh time in franchise history, and the first time since May 18, 2004, against the Dodgers when Bobby Abreu, Burrell and Jim Thome connected in succession. Wellemeyer allowed eight runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out three in 3.1 innings of work.

Our View: According to Rototimes sources Wellemeyer's velocity was down. The right-hander didn't top 92 mph on his fastball, some three ticks under his norm. The Cards right-hander missed his last start after experiencing inflammation in his right shoulder, and after tonight he's likely wishing he would have missed a second.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 6/13, 10:45 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer will be seeking his eighth win of the season when the Cardinals host the Phillies tonight, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Wellemeyer skipped his last scheduled start after experiencing inflammation in his right elbow following a start at Washington on June 5, but he is good to go and feels fine, and should be in your lineups for tonight. He is 7-1 with a 2.92 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/9, 7:42 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer will rejoin the Cardinals rotation when the team returns home to face Philadelphia this weekend, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The righty, who was supposed to pitch Tuesday but is resting a sore elbow, will likely take the ball on Saturday.

Our View: The injury sounded minor, but it's good to know for sure that Wellemeyer won't need to go on the DL.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/8, 7:50 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer said his right elbow felt better Saturday than it has in a week, but the righty will still miss his next scheduled start, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It's nothing serious," said Wellemeyer. "I felt it after my start against Pittsburgh (May 30) and again Thursday's game. It was enough to get it checked out. But it feels better. … My body is resilient." The Cards left open the possibility that Wellemeyer could simply be pushed back a couple days, but it's more likely that he'll just be skipped altogether. An MRI on the elbow was negative, though it did reveal inflammation, a mild stress reaction and a slight impingement.

Our View: At this point Wellemeyer is not expected to need a DL stint. Mitchell Boggs will start in his place on Tuesday.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 6/6, 10:15 PM CT
An MRI Friday on Todd Wellemeyer's elbow came back negative. However, the right-hander's next start is still in question.

Our View: Mitchell Boggs, who made his major league debut in relief Friday, is a candidate to fill in if Wellemeyer should need to miss a turn.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 6/6, 6:59 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer did not travel with the Cardinals to Houston but instead flew to St. Louis to meet with team doctors to have what manager Tony La Russa described as a "soreness near his biceps" checked out, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The team is officially referring to the pitcher's ailment as right elbow inflammation. La Russa said there Wellemeyer's next start might be in question. "You always treat it like it's a big deal," La Russa said, "and hope for the best."

Our View: The results of Wellemeyer's visit should be known later this evening. We'll keep you posted.

Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 6/4, 9:01 PM CT
Wednesday night's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals was rained out. The contest will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Thursday.

Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/25, 8:18 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Todd Wellemeyer pitched well today, but the offense and relief pitching failed to support the effort as the Cardinals took the 4-3 loss against the Dodgers. Wellemeyer pitched six innings, giving up three runs (all earned) on five hits without surrendering a single walk, pitching four strikeouts along the way.

Our View: Wellemeyer left with no decision and still has yet to suffer a loss this month.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 5/19, 11:52 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer improved to 5-1 on the year thanks to six innings of two-run ball for the Cardinals. Wellemeyer had success on the night despite only two K and three BB against the Padres.

Our View: We have to admit we are a bit surprised that Wellemeyer has done this well, heck, everyone should be as he is doing an excellent Chris Carpenter impersonation right now. It's doubtful he'll keep it up, but he has been a godsend so far.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 5/14, 11:28 PM CT
The Pirates managed to find just four hits in their bats this evening as they suffered the 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, all but dominated by RHP Todd Wellemeyer in earning his fourth win of the season. Wellemeyer pitched seven innings, giving up a lowly one run on an even lowlier two hits. He walked three, struck out five, and did so on 11 fly outs mixed with five grounders.

Our View: Since hitting May, Wellemeyer is pitching as well as any hurler in the game. Including this evening, he has allowed just six runs (four earned) on 13 hits combined.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/4, 10:13 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer improved to 3-1 with a victory against the Cubs on Sunday night. He held the rival to three hits and two runs over five innings. Wellemeyer mixed in four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: That's three straight starts with four runs allowed, and Wellemeyer is beginning to lose his early shine. Yes, he won on Sunday, but we still don't trust him in anything other than NL-only leagues.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/28, 10:48 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer allowed only two hits in his last three innings, but struggled through the first three giving up four runs on five hits. The right-hander struck out five and walked two in the 4-3 loss to the Reds.

Our View: Wellemeyer had been 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his first two starts at home this season.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/23, 9:13 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer hurled six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk to the Pirates.

Our View: Wellmeyer's ERA rose to 3.77 in this outing, and one would have to think that he would struggle to keep his ERA below 4.00 given his career line. Still, he bears watching in NL Only leagues where he could be a difference maker.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/23, 1:18 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer will be aiming for a 3-0 start when he takes the mound against the Pirates tonight, according to MLB.com. He also holds a 3.24 ERA, with 26 strikeouts over 25 innings.

Our View: He is off to a strong start, and will continue to make a case for himself to remain in the Cardinals' rotation when their injured starters begin coming back. He has worked 20 innings over his last three starts, and is worth targeting for your fantasy rotation, as he also holds a 1.08 WHIP.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/18, 11:20 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer continues to make Dave Duncan look like a genius as he held the Giants to just one run over seven innings to pick up win number two on the season.

Our View: Sure this was the Giants he defeated, but still, he looked solid once again as he allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out six.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/7, 8:56 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer had another excellent outing for the Cardinals on Monday as he limited the Astros to five hits, one walk and two runs in seven innings. Wellmeyer allowed two solo home runs on the evening, but this performance, combined with the work of other Cardinals starters, has turned a major concern into a huge strength thus far.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/2, 11:09 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer struck out six batters in five innings for the Cardinals on his way to his first victory of the season. Wellemeyer allowed only one run on the night though he did allow seven baserunners. The Cardinals are in desperate need of arms in the starting rotation, and this is exactly the type of performance they were hoping to get from Todd.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 3/16, 9:11 PM CT
Hopes of working towards a spot in the starting rotation remain alive but are in trouble for Todd Wellemeyer, according to MLB.com. Wellemeyer allowed four hits and three runs through five innings today in a 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves. The arm that worked in a relief mode last season walked just one and garnered three strike outs in the outing, but two home runs surrendered indicate there is still work to be done. Some offensive support would have been nice (just nine total hits for the Cards), but mistakes made ruled the story of the day.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 3/6, 3:22 PM CT
Todd Wellemeyer was stretched out on Thursday and fared well for three innings. The Cardinals right-hander ran into trouble in the fourth and left after 3.2 innings of work. Wellemeyer allowed two runs on two hits, with four walks and four Ks. Wellemeyer was serviceable last year with the Cards. He finished the season with 11 starts, a 3-3 record, 4.54 ERA and struck out 60 in 79 innings of work. As was the case today his control is his Achilles. The righty walked 40 batters in '07.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 1/29, 11:16 AM CT
The Cardinals avoided arbitration with Todd Wellemeyer by signing the right-hander to a one-year, $1 million deal Monday. Wellemeyer's ERA was 1.26 in 14 1/3 innings as a reliever for the Cardinals, though he could compete for a rotation job this spring.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/24, 9:59 PM CT
The Cardinals activated Todd Wellemeyer from the disabled list on Friday. He will pitch out of the bullpen instead of going back into the rotation.

Our View: Wellemeyer is better suited to pitch in relief. His eight starts were a direct result of the weak pitching staff the Cardinals have this year.
Todd Wellemeyer, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 8/20, 9:14 AM CT
Todd Wellemeyer tossed 50 pitches in a bullpen session on Saturday. All went well, so he's slated to head out on a rehab assignment, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The stint will get underway on Tuesday, as he continues his recovery from a sprained elbow.

Todd Wellemeyer signed a one-year, $635,000 deal with the Royals on Tuesday, according to the Kansas City Star. "For me, he's a guy who we have to figure out what we’re going to do with him. I really like his makeup, and I like his stuff." He holds a 3.69 ERA in 24 games with the Royals this year. Joe Nelson, the team's current closer, is 6-for-6 in save opportunities.
