Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 8/25, 10:32 PM CT

Robinson Cano had one of the worst games of his career on Saturday, going 0-for-6 while stranding ten runners, but the Yankees still beat the Blue Jays 6-5 in 12 innings.

Robinson Cano was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored as the Yankees defeated the Mets 15-0 on Sunday.

Our View: Cano continues to have a strong season for the Yankees. If he maintains his current hitting pace, he'll finish with 100 RBI and 111 runs scored while hitting .298. He's traditionally been a much better second half player, but it will be hard to outshine his numbers from his first half should he keep this up.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 6/9, 10:44 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 1-for-4 with a single in Tuesday's 7-0 loss at Boston.

Robinson Cano was 2-for-4 Wednesday and stroked his second home run of the season in the Yankees' 4-3 win over the Rays. The blast was a two-run shot.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 3/29, 5:10 PM CT
Robinson Cano was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI Sunday against the Pirates.

Our View: Cano is a reliable fielder and one of the more dangerous second basemen in the league at the plate. We'd like to see the .271 average and 26 walks come up a bit, but he did manage to temper those numbers a bit by posting a solid at-bat-to-strikeout ratio of 9.1:1 in 2008.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 3/22, 4:30 PM CT
Robinson Cano appeared as the Yankees DH again on Sunday as they fell to the Rays. He finished the game 2-for-3 and is now hitting .429 this spring through 28 at-bats.

Robinson Cano, who is dealing with bursitis in the back of his right shoulder, could return to action at second base Friday, according to the NY Daily News. Cano said, "I was a little worried, but I knew in my mind it was not too bad, because I could throw. I feel a little pain, but I will be ready in a few days. There is a little inflammation, but it is not the worst news."

Our View: This is encouraging news, and Cano should be fine to target as a No. 1 fantasy second baseman.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesMonday 3/16, 11:17 AM CT
It has been determined that Robinson Cano is dealing with bursitis in the back of his right shoulder, and not tendinitis as was previously believed, according to the NY Post.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSaturday 3/14, 6:22 PM CT
Robinson Cano's physical examination on Saturday revealed tendinitis in his right shoulder, according to the Journal News. He is awaiting results from an MRI.

Our View: This is certainly not good news for the second baseman. There has been no indication yet if he is expected to miss any time, but that seems a reasonable option. He has typically been durable throughout his career, but don't be surprised if this carries over into April. Stay tuned.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesFriday 3/13, 5:21 PM CT
Robinson Cano is experiencing tightness in his right shoulder and will be examined by a doctor on Saturday. He has been experience the discomfort since the beginning of spring training.

Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with a walk for Team Dominican Republic in an exhibition against Florida on Tuesday.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 3/1, 7:02 PM CT
Robinson Cano had a big day in the Grapefruit League for the Yankees on Sunday, going 3-for-3 with a home run and a double. He also drove in four while scoring just once.

Our View: Cano is now hitting .556 for the Yankees this spring. He had a bit of a down year in 2008, so if he can return to form the Yankees could have one of the best lineups in the majors.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 1/25, 9:45 AM CT
Robinson Cano will represent the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Cano has fared well so far this off-season during winterball, and will be looking to bounce back in 2009 after holding a disappointing .271 batting average and .305 OBP with the Yankees last season. Cano looks to slip in fantasy drafts, but could serve as a solid starting second baseman.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 1/18, 1:15 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have inquired about Robinson Cano to fill their void at second base. Apparently the Yankees asked for Adam Wainwright in return and the conversation did not last long.

Our View: Wainwright has developed into a legitimate ace, and Cano is an inconsistent second baseman that has shown flashes of All-Star ability. Talks could be re-visited, but don't expect Wainwright to go anywhere.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 12/21, 10:39 AM CT
Robinson Cano is faring very well in the Dominican as he recorded 15 RBI over 17 games with nine extra-base hits, according to the Journal News.

Our View: He has more walks (seven) than strikeouts (five) which is favorable news since he only walked 26 times over 597 at-bats with the Yankees in 2008, with a mere .305 OBP.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 12/9, 11:39 AM CT
Newsday reports that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman shot down rumors that they were shopping second baseman Robinson Cano.

Our View: There were rumors that he could wind up in a Dodgers uniform next season, but that seems less likely now.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesFriday 12/5, 11:49 AM CT
Buster Olney of ESPN indicates that the Yankees would likely ask for prized pitchers Chad Billingsley or Clayton Kershaw if the Dodgers pursue a trade for second baseman Robinson Cano.

Our View: The Yankees would then ask for outfielder Matt Kemp if the Dodgers won't give up one of their hurlers. As previously mentioned, the Yankees have discussed Orlando Hudson as a potential replacement if Cano is dealt.

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who had a miserable start to last season that sunk his batting average to an end figure of .271, is hitting .303 with seven RBI as a DH in a league in the Dominican Republic, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Cano is a better hitter than he showed last year, and even with his horrid start he hit 14 home runs and knocked in 72 runners. He is a prime candidate to regain his old form in 2009.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 11/25, 2:05 PM CT
Robinson Cano is progressing well and is in great condition with the aid of a personal trainer, according to the NY Times.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesThursday 11/20, 4:44 PM CT
The Yankees are said to have interest in second baseman Orlando Hudson, but the only problem is they have Robinson Cano. According to SI.com the Yankees might look to trade Cano or move him to first base if they would bring in Hudson.

Our View: Cano had an up-and-down year with the Yankees in 2008 and took a lot of heat from the media in New York. It might be a good for the second baseman to have a change of scenery.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesFriday 11/7, 10:19 AM CT
Robinson Cano is believed to be on the Dodgers' radar, according to the NY Post. The Yankees are known to be interested in catcher Russell Martin and outfielder Matt Kemp.

Our View: Cano would favorably replace Jeff Kent at second base, but it was previously stated that the Dodgers are not shopping Russell Martin, and Yankees' officials added that Cano is most likely going to remain in New York.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 11/4, 10:47 AM CT
Robinson Cano would be the centerpiece of any trade for Jake Peavy, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Cano is slated to make $27 million over the next three years, and with the Padres looking to shed salary, he may not be the most attractive option.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 9/17, 9:24 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 3-for-3 in his second game back after being benched for not running out a ground ball. He did not record any RBI or runs.

Our View: It was just his second three-hit game since August seventh. His typical big second half has been mediocre as he is hitting just .278 since the All-Star break. Fantasy owners no doubt expected more.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesMonday 9/15, 6:00 PM CT
On Sunday, manager Joe Girardi, benched Robinson Cano for his lack of hustle and the benching continues tonight. Cano is not in the starting lineup against the White Sox, according to the AP.

Our View: It has been a disappointing season for the Yankees and especially for their starting second baseman. Cano is only hitting .260 this year with 13 home runs, and there is no news on how long Cano will be out of the starting lineup.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 9/14, 6:40 PM CT
Robinson Cano was benched on Sunday for not hustling while playing defense, according to the Associated Press. “That’s embarrassing,” he said. “You’re playing and you’re taken out of the game. It’s a situation that no player would like to be in.”

Our View: Cano did say that manager Joe Girardi was right for removing him from the game after he failed to go hard after a ball that glanced of Jason Giambi's glove as Cliff Floyd was able to stretch the hit into a double. With his struggles at the plate this season (.260), Cano had better hustle or he could find himself out of the lineup.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 9/10, 6:16 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 0-for-3 on Wednesday and he is now 6-for-38 in September (.158) to drop his average to .261.

Our View: Cano is hitting .299 in August, and has seven multi-hit games on the month. He has had a solid last two months and despite his early struggles, is on his way to putting up respectable numbers for fantasy owners.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSaturday 8/16, 5:34 PM CT
Robinson Cano wetn 2-for-6 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Royals. He is hitting .327 since the All-Star break.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesThursday 8/7, 10:11 PM CT
Robinson Cano got three hits and raised his average to .266 in the Yankees win over Texas.

Our View: Cano has seen his average climb steadily since he was under .200 as late as the middle of May. But he has returned to provide solid fantasy punch.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSunday 8/3, 1:03 PM CT
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano was held out of the Yankees' lineup for a second consecutive game on Sunday, still protecting a bruised and swollen left hand that has impacted his hitting, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The second baseman received more treatment for the injury, which he believes traces back to being busted inside with a cutter by Boston's Jon Lester one week ago at Fenway Park. Cano said the pain affects him most while batting and is located on the meaty part of the palm. Cano is batting .344 (21-for-61) in 14 games since the All-Star break, but was 3-for-22 in the five games since he suffered the injury. The tentative plan is for Cano to rest all day Sunday and then take batting practice before Monday night's game at Texas.

The NY Post reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers have interest in Robinson Cano and may be willing to part with Derek Lowe and Matt Kemp for him.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesMonday 7/21, 9:52 PM CT

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSaturday 7/19, 5:51 PM CT
Robinson Cano had four hits, including two doubles, in the Yankees' 4-3 win Saturday. He is batting exactly .300 since his woeful April.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesFriday 7/18, 9:39 PM CT
The Yanks pulled their offensive magic once more, earning the 7-1 win over Oakland this evening. The bat of second baseman Robinson Cano helped the cause, going 2-for-4 with his seventh homer of the season to total three RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View: Cano is hitting just .273 through July and has not homered since June 27th. If he continues to struggle, the Yanks may seek alternative options.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 7/9, 6:43 PM CT
Is it too late to make a move on Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano? Cano collected his sixth multi-hit performance in the last nine games with his 2-for-4 effort in Tuesday's win over Scott Kazmir. Cano is batting .348 (15-for-43) in his last 11 games and has raised his batting average from .227 on June 22 to .255.

Our View: Cano hit into his share of bad luck in the first half of the season and it won't be a surprise to see the .303 career hitter return to that level before the end of the 2008 campaign.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesMonday 7/7, 6:57 PM CT
Robinson Cano is warming with the weather. Since June 22, Cano has raised his average from .227 to .252. The Yankees second baseman has back-to-back .300 seasons so there is little reason to believe that Cano won't continue to progress during the second half.

Our View: Cano remains a buy low candidate.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesThursday 6/26, 9:11 PM CT
Robinson Cano has struggled to find his swing for most of this season, and things have finally started to turn around of late with six hits in two games, according to MLB.com. "People have asked me if it's the turning point, and I've thought a couple of times, 'Yes,'" Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We all feel and believe that Robbie is a lot better hitter than .220 or .230. Maybe this is the turning point."

Our View: Cano is hitting just .241 thanks in part to an artificially low BABIP of .250, well below his career .324 mark, so it's long been clear that a turn around has been in the offing. Now might be your last chance to add him in a trade before he really takes off.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 6/25, 1:33 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 3-4 with a run scoring single in Tuesday night's loss to the Pirates.

Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesFriday 6/20, 9:58 PM CT
Robinson Cano had two hits in three AB on Friday night while producing an RBI, his 25th of the season.

Our View: Cano is now hitting .232, the highest since it was at .333 after opening day. Wow, how shocking is that for a guy who owns a .302 career mark?
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSaturday 6/14, 7:04 PM CT
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is out of the starting lineup this evening as New York faces Houston in interleague play.

Our View: Cano has been struggling at the plate and the team is hoping a rest can get him settled and focused. Recent-promoted Alberto Gonzalez will get the start at second in his stead.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 5/14, 9:17 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 4-for-4 and and drove in a run with an RBI single to help the Yankees end the Tampa Bay Rays' six-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.

Our View: Cano, who has been in a major slump, need a night like this to get his engine started. The four hit performance raised his average from 1.83 to .205 on the season.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 5/13, 10:13 PM CT
The Yanks suffered a troublesome 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays after 11 innings this evening, a night that saw continued struggles for the bulk of an offense that managed just six hits and seven strikeouts. The top offender on the evening was 2B Robinson Cano , going 0-for-4, and while he failed to earn a single strikeout, he stranded four men on-base.

Our View: His batting average also drops to .183, though he has worked hard to get that number up from the .151 mark he carried leaving April.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesThursday 5/8, 3:29 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and recorded his fourth home run of the season in Thursday's 6-3 win over Cleveland.

Our View: Cano needed a solid outing as he was only hitting .148 over 39 games, with a mere 10 RBI. He has now registered a hit in four straight games, and that was his second homer over seven games in May. Perhaps he is now starting to get on track.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesMonday 5/5, 4:24 PM CT
Joe Girardi keeps hoping, day after day, that today will be the day Robinson Cano gets on track. this according to Newsday. Cano's homer in the third yesterday again gave Girardi reason to think he might be on the verge of regaining his stroke: "Maybe today gets him going, I'm not sure." Cano is hitting only .154. Because of that, he has mostly been talking to reporters either to explain his offensive doldrums or to translate for close buddy Melky Cabrera, who happens to be leading the team in homers with six.

Our View: Cano slumped last year as well. From April 26 to May 17, a span of 19 games, he batted .157 (11-for-70) with 18 strikeouts. This year he is 18- for-117 with three homers, eight RBIs and 15 strikeouts. It's far too early for owners to panic.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 4/30, 10:36 PM CT
Robinson Cano continues to be unable to generate any offense as he went 0-for-3 to fall to .151 on the season.

Our View: Amazing. We are at a loss to explain how a .300 hitter like Cano can hit .151 for an entire month. It certainly can't get any worse than this though a look at his career record shows that his worst average is in the month of April (.24), so now is the time to make a play to acquire him at a bottom barrel price.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesFriday 4/18, 9:51 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 1-for-4 on Friday as he continues to be mired in a miserable start to the 2008 season.

Our View: Cano is hitting only .171 through 70 AB in an extremely sluggish start to the season. The guy has one of the sweetest swings in the game and owns a career .312 batting average, so pity the pitchers he will face when he gets his groove back.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 4/16, 3:32 PM CT
Robinson Cano is going to bat eighth in the Yankees' lineup tonight, according to The Boston Globe. He finally hit his first homer, but still only managed 10 hits over his first 57 at-bats, with eight strikeouts.

Our View: He will have less pressure to hit from the eighth spot, and could still post favorable numbers in the Yankees' strong offense.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesMonday 4/14, 9:40 PM CT
Robinson Cano came off the bench on Monday and hit a solo shot in the eighth inning against the Rays. Cano's homer ended a 7-7 tie and proved to be the game-winner.

Our View: Fantasy owners know Cano is typically a second-half guy, but his frigid start has still been a bit tough to stomach. He hadn't scored a run until Monday night.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSaturday 4/12, 8:13 PM CT
Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Saturday to up his batting average to .188 through 48 AB.

Our View: Cano owns a .312 career batting average, so seeing this prolonged slump is a bit shocking, but he still has plenty of time to get that average back up to the .300 range.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesSaturday 4/12, 2:41 PM CT
Robinson Cano has slipped another spot in the Yankees' order as he is set to bat seventh against Boston on Saturday, according to the Boston Globe. He is only hitting .159 over 44 at-bats, with only one extra base hit.

Our View: This is really surprisng to see him struggle following a red hot spring training, and a strong 2007 campaign.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesWednesday 4/9, 7:33 AM CT
Robinson Cano was moved up to the second spot in the Yankees' batting order on Tuesday, and he was a disappointment as he only went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts, while leaving five men on base in a 5-2 loss to Kansas City. He was previously batting sixth in the order but moved up as Derek Jeter was out of the lineup with his quad ailment. He holds a .188 batting average, and could fall back down in the order if he doesn't start to perform.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 4/8, 3:29 PM CT
Robinson Cano has moved up from sixth to second in the Yankees' batting order today, due primarily to the absence of Derek Jeter, who is out nursing his quad injury. Robinson Cano, 2B, New York YankeesTuesday 4/1, 7:20 PM CT
Robinson Cano is hitting sixth for the Yankees tonight, and he will stay in that spot going forward, according to MLB.com. "Right now, I'm planning on using him as our sixth hitter as we move forward," manager Joe Girardi said. "It's not so much about what the other guys didn't do, it's more about what Robbie has done and who he is. I like him there, and he'll stay there for right now." Cano hit in the bottom third of the order most of last season, so this is certainly good news for his owners who are expecting Cano to take another step forward this season.

GM Brian Cashman has told Robinson Cano not to completely rule out the idea of moving to third base if the Yankees are unable to acquire a third baseman this winter, according to Newsday. "I told him, 'I love you at second base,"' Cashman said, "but I informed him that 'I know you can play third base. If you want to keep playing second base, I'm counting on you making sure that Wilson Betemit shows up to spring training in tip-top shape."' With Alex Rodriguez not expected to return, and Mike Lowell likely going back to Boston, there aren't many third basemen available this offseason. And the Yanks aren't convinced Wilson Betemit can handle the job full-time.
