Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 3/19, 3:34 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-2 with a run scored and walk against the Twins on Friday.

Our View: He has now upped his average to .357 this spring. After a slow start, he's starting to look like the Jason Bay the Mets knew they signed earlier this winter.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 2/23, 9:14 AM CT
Jason Bay admits to being on a curling team in high school, according to Newsday's David Lennon.

Our View: However, we won't hold it against Bay, a Canadian. Kidding aside, the Mets' expensive new outfielder is expected to take his first session of batting practice on Tuesday, making it a good day for the Amazins.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 1/22, 9:59 AM CT
Jason Bay has "no regrets" about spurning the Red Sox to sign with the Mets, according to WEEI.

Our View: And it doesn't sound like he should, either. Bay says that last summer he and the Red Sox had actually agreed to a four-year, $60 million extension, with only a physical standing between the deal being finalized. That's, of course, where things fell apart. The team became concerned with his knee and shoulder, and instead offered a two-year deal with two one-year options. They also wanted him to undergo offseason knee surgery, which Bay says was strange, since "I wasn't hurt." It sounds like he made the best decision for his long-term future by signing with the Mets.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 1/4, 10:58 AM CT
Updating an earlier item, Jason Bay has passed his physical with the New York Mets, making his four-year, $66 million deal (with a vesting fifth-year option) official, according to Brad Como of SNY.

Our View: As should have been expected all along. Fears of Bay not passing his physical were always seemingly overblown by the famously frantic and fickle New York media, and even if there had been a problem, the Mets probably would have made the deal go through anyways. Now what people need to be worried about is how Bay plans to thrive on defense in Citi Field's cavernous left field, and how he plans to hit home runs over its distant wall.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 1/4, 10:53 AM CT
Jason Bay's knees and shoulders will be a "point of emphasis" during his physical for the Mets on Monday, according to the New York Post.

Our View: His shoulders are what is believed to have scared the Red Sox away from retaining him. Considering he's hit 67 home runs the past two seasons, here's guessing he'll be given a clean bill of health.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 1/3, 5:15 PM CT
According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, Jason Bay is scheduled to undergo his extensive physical with the Mets on Monday.

Our View: Bay's four-year $66 million deal won't go into effect if he fails the physical. The Mets are planning to look very closely at his wrists, ankles and shoulders, but there is no reason to think he won't pass. He averaged 153 games played the last two seasons.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 12/30, 2:48 PM CT
The fifth year, $17 million option in Jason Bay's contract with the Mets should be "easily vested," according to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.

Our View: It sounds like Bay got the deal he had long been seeking this offseason. As long as he can stay healthy, he will be a New York Met the next five season.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/29, 3:26 PM CT
Jason Bay's physical with the Mets, the only thing holding the two sides' agreement back from becoming official, will most likely be "extensive," according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The Red Sox were reportedly concerned about Bay's shoulders. While the physical may be "extensive," it's hard to believe the Mets would be able to stomach the embarrassment of the deal falling through. Expect him to be a Met by next week.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/29, 1:28 PM CT
The Mets and free agent outfielder Jason Bay have reached an agreement on a contract, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The New York Post's Joel Sherman reports that it is a four-year, $66 million deal, with a vesting option for a fifth year. That's more money than Bay was ever publicly linked to, so it appears he has come out of the whole ordeal rather well. Stay tuned.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 12/26, 8:28 AM CT
The Mets "may soon abandon" their pursuit of Jason Bay, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Our View: They have long had an offer on the table for the prized free agent outfielder, believed to be for four or five years, but he has shown no inclination to accept it. It is widely assumed he does not actually want to play for the Amazins, and is simply using them as leverage in negotiations with other clubs. If they determine that to be the case, expect them to drop out of his sweepstakes very soon.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 12/25, 9:24 AM CT
Jason Bay would "rather be playing in Beirut than Queens," according to Peter Gammons on WEEI.

Our View: In other words, consider the Mets his emergency option this winter. With a Boston reunion not likely, though, where he actually wants to end up remains a total mystery.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 12/25, 9:10 AM CT
According to Peter Gammons on WEEI, the Red Sox likely have no chance to bring back Jason Bay in 2010.

Our View: If Gammons says it, it is most likely true. That being said, if Bay's market continues to fail to develop, he may just opt for the comfort and familiarity of Boston over a few extra million dollars somewhere else.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/24, 12:01 PM CT
Jon Heyman tweets that Red Sox will make another offer to Jason Bay, but that it will be less than the Mets current offer of four years and $65 million.

Our View: If the Red Sox somehow managed to sign Bay, they would have five starting-caliber outfielders. That would seem to indicate a possible trade scenario in which they could shore up their lone weakness at corner infield. They're still believed to be interested in first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 12/23, 7:04 PM CT
The Red Sox are reportedly thinking about taking another shot at bringing back Jason Bay, according to Rod Bradford of WEEI Sports.

Our View: The team would need to expand their team budget to keep the star outfielder in Boston. The new proposal would be around their initial offer of four years at $60MM.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/22, 1:26 PM CT
FoxSports.com reports that four teams remain in discussion for the right to sign Jason Bay.

Our View: The Mets were believed to be the front-runners for Bay, but apparently there is a lot of interest remaining on the West Coast. The Mariners, Giants, and Angels are all believed to hold interest in Bay. His hold up with the Mets has been reported to be a fifth year in his contract. It's uncertain if any of the other teams have made him an official offer.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 12/19, 10:13 AM CT
According to the New York Daily News, negotiations between the Mets and free agent outfielder Jason Bay have stalled because of Bay's insistence on a fifth year.

Our View: The Mets aren't willing to commit to more than four years, unless Bay significantly lowers his annual salary. As it stands they are offering around $65 million for the 31-year-old slugger, but they feel no need to up their offer with no other legitimately interested parties. Someone is going to have to budge here sooner or later, so expect a deal to get done, but fans may be waiting a while.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/17, 8:44 PM CT
The Seattle Mariners are not "seriously" bidding on free agent outfielder Jason Bay, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: So besides the Mets, then, it's unclear who is. Could perhaps a deal with the Amazins be close?
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/17, 8:49 AM CT
Contrary to previous reports, the New York Daily News claims that the Mets are reluctant to include a fifth year in their offer for Jason Bay and are currently standing pat on their four-year offer for around $65 million.

Our View: Bay is reportedly desiring five, maybe even six years, but it's tough to know exactly what type of offers he's been receiving. Still, the Mets might have to budge and offer up five years if they want to land the premier outfielder.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 12/16, 9:03 AM CT
The Mets have upped their offer to Jason Bay to include a fifth year, according to SI.com.

Our View: The offer is apparently for five years and around $75 million. The Mets have also continued to pursue Matt Holliday and appear dead set on landing one of the two premier outfielders. We'll have to wait and see if either accepts.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/15, 6:54 PM CT
An undisclosed source stated that Jason Bay is a possibility for the Mariners, even after adding Chone Figgins and Cliff Lee, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: The Mariners still need a productive right-handed bat for the heart of their order. Bay notably owns a home in the Seattle area, and would be joining a team that looks to be on the rise for 2010.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/15, 9:32 AM CT
The Yankees have contacted representatives for Jason Bay, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: With Boston's recent signing of Mike Cameron, Bay appears to be on his way out of Beantown. Still, that doesn't mean the Yankees don't have plenty of competition for his services, with the Mets, Angels and Mariners very much in the mix. Stay tuned.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 12/12, 7:51 PM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports that Jason Bay's "Plan A" is to sign with the Mets.

Our View: It is unknown if they are the "mystery team" that has offered him a five-year contract, but they are the most likely suspect. Were Bay to go to the Mets, it could drastically change the landscapes of both the AL and NL East divisions.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 12/12, 6:01 PM CT
A "mystery team" has offered Jason Bay a five-year contract, according to Newsday's David Lennon.

Our View: This is significant, since Bay appeared to bow out of discussions with the Red Sox today after they refused to offer him five years. If this "mystery" team and offer are indeed legitimate, Bay could be signing somewhere very shortly.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 12/12, 3:05 PM CT
Free agent Jason Bay has rejected Boston's latest offer, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. "We have other offers on table that are of greater interest to Jason," said agent Joe Urbon.

Our View: There's no word yet on the exact numbers on the offer that Bay refused, but it was believed to be around four years for $60 million. Bay apparently wants another year on the contract, and you have to believe that somebody out there will give him a legit five-year offer, whether it's Boston or another franchise.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 12/11, 5:35 PM CT
Peter Gammons of ESPN stated that Jason Bay does not want to play for the Giants, according to WEEI Sports Radio.

Our View: The club is willing to offer the five-year deal that he covets, but Bay is not interested in playing in San Francisco.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 12/11, 3:55 PM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated speculates that if the New York Mets are willing to give Jason Bay a five-year contract, they may be the ones who end up with his bat.

Our View: The Red Sox are apparently unwilling to go longer than four years, while another potential Bay suitor, Seattle, is now said to be focusing on pitching. It would be quite a coup for a franchise in need of some positive news.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 12/11, 3:10 PM CT
For now, at least, the Boston Red Sox are not willing to give Jason Bay more than a four-year contract, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Bay, of course, wants five years. With Boston apparently facing very serious competition for his services, his return to Beantown is far from certain.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/10, 6:05 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated tweeted that the Mets offered Jason Bay a four-year deal worth $65MM.

Our View: Heyman believes the Mets would have to extend their proposal to five years to have a chance to reel him in.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/10, 12:58 PM CT
The Mets have made an offer to free agent outfielder Jason Bay, according to David Lennon of Newsday.

Our View: The Mets have been sending mixed-messages this offseason about how much money they have to spend, but as everyone knows, an offer to Bay would not come cheap, especially considering the enormous market that has sprung up around him. It doesn't seem likely that they would be able to outbid many of his potential suitors, but as they say, stranger things have happened.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 12/9, 7:38 PM CT
Skipper Mike Scioscia does not expect the Angels to sign Jason Bay, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Scioscia noted that the Angels have had internal discussions regarding the star outfielder, but the manager added that he is yet to reach out to him. Scioscia also pointed out that the Angels have more pressing needs to address. Also worth noting, the Mariners are yet to reveal how serious they are about reeling in Bay, who owns a home in the Seattle area.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/8, 7:10 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Ed Price (AOL Fanhouse) tweeted that there is belief that the Angels are "pushing hard" for outfielder Jason Bay.

Our View: Boston remains in the picture to re-sign Bay, and the Mariners are interested in acquiring the star outfielder as well.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/8, 10:44 AM CT
The Red Sox will have a meeting with representatives for Jason Bay this morning, according to Yahoo Sports' Tim Brown.

Our View: The Angels and Mariners are said to be in pursuit of Bay, but the Red Sox are still very much in the mix of retaining the star left fielder. Wherever Bay does end up signing, expect his deal to be on of the biggest of this offseason.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 12/7, 8:03 PM CT
In very unsurprising news, Jason Bay will turn down Boston's offer of arbitration, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: This of course does not mean he will not be back in Beantown in 2010, only that he believes there is a serious market of teams willing to give him a long-term deal developing. Were he to leave Boston, his status as a Type A free agent would net the Red Sox two compensatory draft picks.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/3, 12:04 PM CT
The Mariners are reportedly seriously pursuing free agent outfielder Jason Bay, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: A move to the Pacific Northwest would seem to bad news for Bay, as he would have to patrol a cavernous left field at Safeco Field and would be hitting in the first pitcher-friendly home stadium of his career. He would still be a nice catch for Mariners, but the fantasy repercussions would likely be big.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 12/2, 8:30 AM CT
Jason Bay's agent is not making any predictions as to when the star outfielder may ink a deal after being offered arbitration by Boston, according to ESPN. His agent Joe Urbon said, "I do not have a time frame for a deal at this point. Despite the interest, it would be unwise for me to speculate."

Our View: Bay and Matt Holliday are the prized bats on the free agent market, and the Angels are among the teams believed to be interested in Bay. He has until December 7 to accept his arbitration offer from Boston, and is not expected to do so.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 12/1, 6:19 PM CT
Jason Bay will be offered salary arbitration from Boston, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View: The Sox will receive draft pick compensation if the star outfielder signs with another team. Boston is believed to be interested in re-signing him.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 11/30, 3:58 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox are still very interested in re-signing free agent outfielder Jason Bay.

Our View: There has been speculation in recent days that the club's interest had waned in Bay after he rejected their initial five-year, $60 million offer, and that they prefer Matt Holliday. They still believe Bay will come cheaper than Holliday, however, and that coupled with his familiarity with the city, makes Boston his most likely landing spot.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 11/30, 8:35 AM CT
The Red Sox are considering "trading" Jason Bay by offering him arbitration they know he will decline, thus getting compensatory draft picks, and then instead signing fellow free agent outfielder Matt Holliday, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: The Red Sox are rich, so why not get richer? This is a nightmare scenario for many small market teams, but with the playing field baseball is currently operating on, not surprising.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 11/24, 1:32 PM CT
According to the Toronto Star, there is a "school of thought" that the Blue Jays could be a player for native Canadian Jason Bay.

Our View: This would be a highly interesting move, though one that would ease the sting of the inevitable loss of Roy Halladay. That being said, with the big pocket teams that are interested in Bay's services, Toronto seems like a longest of shots.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 11/21, 12:33 PM CT
According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, the Red Sox are looking at other alternatives to free agent outfielder Jason Bay.

Our View: Bay has already turned down a four-year $60 million deal from the Red Sox and made it clear that he wants to test the free agent market, so it makes sense that Boston would explore their options. Still, don't count the Sox out of Bay sweepstakes. Along with the Angels, they are still the favorites to land him. If Bay is the first man snatched up out of the big-time free agent pool, expect Boston to increase their pursuit of Matt Holliday.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 11/20, 9:50 AM CT
The Angels appear to be interested in free agent outfielder Jason Bay, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Angels owner Arte Moreno has said he likes Bay's "great bat and great makeup." With Vladimir Guerrero likely not coming back, he would be a great fit in Anaheim's stacked lineup.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 11/19, 10:55 AM CT
Free agent outfielder Jason Bay has rejected the Red Sox's first offer, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The offer was believed to be in the neighborhood of four years and $60 million. "It's not a surprise that a player that's gone this far wants to see what's out there," were the words of Red Sox GM Theo Epstein. The Red Sox are still the heavy favorites to retain his services.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 11/18, 9:59 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals are not viewing free agent outfielder Jason Bay as a priority this offseason. The team has been turned off by Bay's struggles defensively.

Our View: The Cards want desperately to bring back Matt Holliday, but Bay doesn't look like much of an option even if Holliday ends up elsewhere. The Birds are also interested in Adam Dunn and Josh Willingham, both of whom may be more attractive to the team than Bay.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 10/18, 1:40 PM CT
The Red Sox would prefer to sign Jason Bay to a three or four year deal this offseason, while the outfielder himself wants a four or five year deal, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: Bay has exceeded everyone's expectations in Boston, and he has put up equal, if not better, numbers there than he did with lowly Pittsburgh. Expect Boston to eventually cave and give Bay the years he wants.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 10/11, 5:27 PM CT
Although Jason Bay says he would like to return to the Red Sox, he has not ruled out exploring other opportunities as a free agent this winter, according to WEEI. "I can't say this is the only place in the world [he'd like to play], but it's one of [them]," said Bay. "There isn't a ton of other places."

Our View: Bay will be competing with Matt Holliday to be the first big name outfielder signed this offseason. It's a good bet that one of the two end up playing for Boston next season.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 9/27, 4:29 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-4 and scored both Boston runs in a 4-2 loss to the Yankees on Saturday. The loss gave the AL East title to the rival New York club.

Our View: Bay is having a solid month down the stretch hitting .317 with seven homers and 23 RBI and he had a stint of four straight games in which he homered. The Sox would love for his hot bat to carry over into the postseason.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 9/26, 2:20 PM CT
Jason Bay is not in Boston's lineup against the Yankees today, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Brian Anderson will start in his place. This is nothing more than a routine day off, and Bay could be in line for a pinch-hit opportunity. Look for him to start tomorrow.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 9/21, 11:17 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 12-9 loss at Kansas City. He hit a single and a three-run homer off Lenny DiNardo.

Our View: Bay launched his 36th homer of 2009, setting a new personal season-high. He hit 35 homers with Pittsburgh back in 2006.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 9/20, 12:47 PM CT
Jason Bay was back in the Red Sox lineup on Sunday after missing one and a half games with the flu, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The free agent to be is hitting .266 with 34 home runs and 107 RBI in 138 games this season. He has also stolen 13 bases.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 9/19, 6:15 PM CT
According to the Boston Globe, Jason Bay was a late scratch for Saturday's game against the Orioles due to flu-like symptoms.

Our View: Bay left Friday's game after four innings and is still feeling the effects of the flu. He is being replaced by rookie Josh Reddick, but should be back in a game or two.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 9/18, 8:16 PM CT
Jason Bay exited tonight's game at Baltimore in the fifth inning due to flu-like symptoms, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Josh Reddick replaced him in the batter's box. Bay homered in the game prior to leaving.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 9/17, 9:00 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-4 with his 33rd home run on Thursday, but Boston would still end up losing 4-3 to the Angles at home.

Our View: Bay now has RBI in four straight games, and is coming alive at the right time for the (likely) playoff-bound Red Sox.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 9/16, 11:05 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Angels at Fenway Park. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Bay notched an RBI in each of his last three games, and continues to lead Boston with 104. He recorded a personal-high 109 RBI with Pittsburgh back in 2006, and is on pace to surpass that total.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 9/13, 8:06 PM CT
Jason Bay drilled his 32nd home run of the season in Sunday's 4-0 shutout of the Rays. He was 1-for-4 on the day.

Our View: Bay's .261 average doesn't impress much, but he's a great source of power. He's popped at least 30 homers and driven in 100 runs in four of the last five seasons.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 9/9, 10:05 PM CT
Jason Bay collected three hits and two RBI on Wednesday night, as Boston edged the Orioles 7-5 at home.

Our View: The two RBI gave him 100 on the season. He has now driven in 100 runs in four of the past five seasons.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 9/5, 6:15 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Gavin Floyd in Saturday's 5-1 loss at Chicago.

Our View: The Red Sox only mustered three hits in the game, and Bay was their lone source of scoring. He hit his second homer of September, and his team-leading 31st of 2009. He is also currently tied with Justin Morneau for third in the AL with 97 RBI.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 9/3, 9:51 PM CT
Jason Bay led the way for the Red Sox on Thursday in their 6-3 win over the Rays. Bay went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in the game.

Our View: Bay has turned it on as of late, and he looks to be back to where he was earlier this season. Although he struggled some in the middle of the year, he should remain an excellent fantasy play down the stretch.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 9/1, 11:06 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Andy Sonnanstine in Tuesday's 8-4 win at Tampa Bay.

Our View: Bay hit a homer in three of his last six games, and reached at least 30 homers in a season for the third time in his career.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 8/28, 11:40 PM CT
Jason Bay smoked his 29th home run of the season in the Red Sox 6-5 win over Toronto on Friday. The two-run shot came in the 5th inning.

Our View: Bay hit just one home run in all of July, but is already up to nine this month. He's also driven in 18 in August and is hitting just under .300. The Sox will need him to keep up this pace if they're going to avoid the golf course in October.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 8/19, 10:15 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer off Roy Halladay in tonight's 6-1 win at Toronto.

Our View: Bay hit a home run in back-to-back games, and collected three over his last four. He is currently tied with Russell Branyan for fifth in the AL with 27 homers as well.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 8/18, 9:49 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Shawn Camp in tonight's 10-9 win at Toronto. He scored two runs in the game.

Our View: Bay hit his sixth homer of August, and continues to lead Boston with 26. Tonight's shot was also the 175th of his career.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 8/15, 11:29 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Derek Holland in tonight's 7-2 loss at Texas.

Our View: Bay hit a homer in four of his last six games, and continues to lead the Sox with 25. He should remain a strong source for power in fantasy leagues as long as he stays healthy.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 8/12, 9:39 PM CT
Jason Bay was perfect at the plate in Wednesday's 8-2 whipping of the Tigers. He went 3-for-3 with a homer, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks.

Our View: Bay has now homered in four of his last five games. Despite dealing with a sore hamstring, Bay is still getting it done when he's healthy enough to start. Monitor his progress daily, but he's a must play when he's fit.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 8/11, 10:50 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in tonight's 7-5 win over Detroit at Fenway Park. He hit a single and a solo homer off Chris Lambert.

Our View: Bay hit a homer in three of his last four games, and continues to lead the Sox with 23, surpassing his 2008 total of 22.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 8/8, 4:58 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Jason Bay's sore hamstring is improving and the outfielder will likely avoid a trip to the disabled list.

Our View: There is no time line for his return, but Bay has been testing the hammy any way he can and pushing it, and so far it has responded well. He'll likely miss the rest of the weekend series with the Yankees, but hasn't completely ruled out a Sunday return. Next week seems more plausible though.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 8/8, 7:55 AM CT
Jason Bay looks doubtful for the rest of the weekend series against the Yankees, according to the Boston Globe. Bay is still suffering from an injured right hamstring.

Our View: Bay knows the importance of the series, but he also knows there is still a lot of season left. It is still possible he could return Sunday, but it looks much more likely that he will wait until next week. Keep him on the bench for now, but check back for updates in the coming days.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 8/6, 1:59 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that Jason Bay doesn't expect to play in Thursday or Friday's contest due to his injured right hamstring.

Our View: Bay was quoted saying he has "no idea how much time he'll miss". The injury flared up when he tried to play though it and it looks like he'll just need some consistent rest before getting back out on the field. He claims the injury doesn't hurt very bad, so at least he's not in a horrible amount of pain. Still, fantasy lineups will feel the sting.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 8/5, 11:13 PM CT
Jason Bay re-injured his right hamstring in tonight's battle at Tampa Bay, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Bay noted that the ailment does not hurt really bad, but is expected to miss at least the first two games of Boston's next series against the rival Yankees.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 8/5, 10:40 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off David Price in tonight's 6-4 loss at Tampa Bay.

Our View: Bay is only batting .252, but continues to lead the contending Red Sox with 21 homers and 75 RBI. He ended a 20-game drought without a home run.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 8/5, 1:57 PM CT
According to WEEI.com, Jason Bay will return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Rays.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 8/2, 8:32 AM CT
Jason Bay will receive the day off on Sunday, according to WEEI.com.

Our View: Bay exited Boston's game on Saturday in the sixth inning with a cramping right hamstring, which seems to have cemented what was already expected to be a day off on Sunday. Replace him in your lineup today if you can, but the injury does not seem to be serious. He's day-to-day, and with an off day for Boston on Monday, may not miss any games after today.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 7/17, 10:25 AM CT
According to WEEI.com, the Red Sox spoke with Jason Bay's agent over the All Star break about extending the outfielder's stay in Boston, but talks were not significant.

Our View: Bay is apparently looking for a deal that would pay him around $14 million a year for three to four years. The Sox are thinking more along the lines of Adam Dunn money (two years $20 million). Sounds like Bay may be getting low-balled a bit. He leads the club with 20 homers and 72 RBI.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 7/14, 10:12 PM CT
Negotiations between the Red Sox and Jason Bay's rep are expected this week, according to the Boston Globe.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 7/6, 9:05 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-3 with a single in tonight's 6-0 loss to Oakland at Fenway Park.

Our View: The Sox only mustered two hits in the shutout loss. Bay has a hit in three of five games in July, but has not launched a homer since June 23 at Washington.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/2, 11:00 AM CT
In a non-fantasy related note, Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay will become a U.S. citizen Thursday afternoon, reports ESPN.com.

Our View: The ceremony will be held in Boston's historic Faneuil Hall. The 30-year-old Bay is from British Columbia, Canada and is the first Red Sox player to be naturalized since David Ortiz became a citizen last summer.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 6/28, 10:19 AM CT
According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have begun contract negotiations with outfielder Jason Bay.

Our View: The Sox would love to give Bay an extension, as he is raking this season, but he will require a significant pay raise than the $7.5 million he's earning in 2009. Bay leads the Red Sox with 69 RBI this season and has filled Manny Ramirez's extremely large shoes admirably since landing in Boston.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 6/27, 1:10 PM CT
According to the Boston Globe, Jason Bay is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game.

Our View: Worry not, statheads. Bay is just getting a routine day off. The mashing Red Sox outfielder is good to go for Sunday and will be in the lineup. Mark Kotsay will fill in for Bay.

Our View: The Red Sox may be wishing that they would have got something done before the season now that Bay has become one of the better players in the AL this year. Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 5/31, 1:39 PM CT
According to WEEI, Jason Bay has said that he would not participate in the Home Run Derby if asked. Bay is currently third in the AL in home runs and he is the leading vote-getter for AL outfielders at this time.

Our View: Bay competed in the Home Run Derby in 2005, and he failed to launch any long balls in the event. Bay isn't the kind of guy who pounds home runs in batting practice, so this event just isn't for him.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/28, 10:18 AM CT
Jason Bay will get a day off today, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Jeff Bailey will roam in left field in his place. Bay is not nursing an injury and skipper Terry Francona just wants to give him some rest.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 5/27, 10:48 PM CT
Jason Bay knocked another home run on Wednesday, his 14th, in the Red Sox' 4-2 loss to the Twins. Bay was 1-for-4 on the night with the homer, a run scored, and an RBI.

Our View: Bay continued his hot start tonight, and he looks to be one of the better power hitters in the American League. He should continue to produce all season, so keep playing him and don't trade him unless you can get more than he is worth.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/21, 10:29 PM CT

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 5/10, 10:52 PM CT
Jason Bay continues to be absolutely clutch for Boston. On Sunday, he doubled in the game-winning run in the ninth inning and finished the night 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Our View: Bay had been hitting sixth in the healthy Red Sox lineup, but injuries to a variety of players have opened up the cleanup spot and even the three-hole for him in recent games. He is second in the AL in RBI, OBP, and walks. He is the best hitter in a lineup full of potent bats.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/7, 9:04 PM CT

Jason Bay hit a big two run homer off Mariano Rivera to tie the game in the ninth inning, and the Red Sox won the game in the eleventh. Bay was 3-for-5 on the night with the homer and two RBI.

Jason Bay clubbed two home runs in Boston's 5-4 win over the Angels on Saturday. He had a fine all-around day as well, scoring three runs, driving in three and drawing a walk. The long balls were his first of the season.

Our View: Bay has now driven in six runs in his first five games this season, and that's exactly what they're looking for in Boston. He replaced a certain future Hall-of-Famer in the outfield that was quite good at driving in runners and if Bay doesn't do the same he will draw out the boo-birds in Beantown.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 4/2, 4:24 PM CT
Jason Bay hit his fourth homer of the spring Thursday against the Twins. He was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI in Boston's 7-3 loss.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 3/21, 5:58 PM CT
Jason Bay was 0-for-3 on Saturday in the Red Sox 4-3 win over the Marlins in a rain-shortened game.

Our View: Bay's spring struggles continue. He's only hitting .250 so far and seems sluggish. He's still a decent fantasy option though as he should hover around the 30 homer 100 RBI plateaus and wind up with double digit steals.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 2/25, 9:04 PM CT

Our View: Bay had a very nice year for the Pirates and Red Sox in 2008, batting .286 with 31 home runs and 101 RBI. He should have even better number in 2009 playing the entire season with Boston as opposed to part of it with the lowly Pirates.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 2/20, 5:42 PM CT

Outfielder Jason Bay went 3-for-5 with a double, homer, and four RBI in the Game 2 ALCS loss to the Rays.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 10/6, 11:23 PM CT
Jason Bay scored the game winning run on a single by Jed Lowrie on a close play at the plate as the Sox defeated the Rays to move on to the ALCS against the Rays. Bay had two hits in the contest and batted .412 in the four game series.

Our View: Bay isn't Manny Ramirez, but every time someone brings that up he inserts himself right into the middle of the action with some solid work. On his headfirst slide into the plate his hand was stepped on by Mike Napoli, so keep an eye out to see if there are any lingering effects when he swings the bat.

Jason Bay hit his 27th home run of the season, and collected his 94th RBI in a 2-for-5 performance in the Red Sox 7-2 win over the Rangers.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 8/17, 8:45 AM CT
Jason Bay recorded two singles on Saturday, and now has six multi-hit efforts in 14 games as a member of the Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Bay is hitting sixth with the Red Sox, but the fact that he is surrounded by better talent than he enjoyed in Pittsburgh should have fantasy owners excited.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 8/3, 6:39 PM CT
Jason Bay had two hits and scored two runs on Sunday for the Red Sox and is now 4-for-11 with six runs scored in three games with the Sox.

New Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay is in the lineup and will hit fifth for the Red Sox, behind cleanup hitter Mike Lowell, according to the Boston Globe.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 9:45 PM CT
Jason Bay will arrive in Boston tomorrow and will be ready for the game, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Trying to take the place of Manny Ramirez isn't going to be easy, but Bay is a very solid player who can provide offensive pop in the middle of the lineup.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 2:55 PM CT
Jason Bay isn't a member of the Rays just yet, according to MLBlogs.com. A source has told Jonathan Mayo that one of the proposed names that the Rays would send to Pittsburgh (Reid Brignac or Jeff Niemann) may not be made available after all.

Our View: The Rays are surely hesitant to include Brignac in any deal, as Mayo speculates. The deadline is nearing, so they'll need to make up their minds soon.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 1:43 PM CT
The Blue Jays' conversation with the Pirates regarding Jason Bay was apparently a short one. The Bucs asked for top prospect Travis Snider and pitcher Shaun Marcum in the deal, and the Jays quickly hung up the phone, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The Pirates sure are driving a hard bargain for Bay. I guess you can't blame them, but it's becoming less likely that he will be dealt, though Tampa still looks like a pretty strong possibility.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 1:29 PM CT
With the three-way deal involving the Red Sox and Marlins likely kaput, the Bucs and Rays have renewed their talks involving Jason Bay, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.

Our View: According to Stark, the Rays are willing to part with pitcher Jeff Niemann and shortstop prospect Reid Brignac, but the Bucs want one of Tampa's elite pitching prospects - Wade Davis, David Price or Jeremy Hellickson. Earlier reports said the Rays were unwilling to deal Brignac.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 12:28 PM CT
The Pirates have agreed on what prospects they would receive in the three-way deal involving Jason Bay, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Additionally, Ronny Paulino's name is now involved. He would go to the Marlins, who are desperately looking for a catcher.

Our View: ESPN's Peter Gammons has reported that the Marlins' insistence on getting more money from the Red Sox has been holding up the deal. It sounds like which players are involved might now be agreed upon.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 11:58 AM CT
The Pirates are apparently also talking to the Blue Jays about a Jason Bay trade, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark. Prized outfield prospect Travis Snider would likely be involved in any deal.

Our View: This move doesn't make much sense for the Jays, given that they are not playoff contenders and Snider looks like a future superstar.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/31, 9:47 AM CT
Although most of the talk has surrounded on the Pirates dealing Jason Bay to Boston, the team is still talking to Tampa about the outfielder, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Tampa is also talking to the Reds about Adam Dunn.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 7/30, 6:06 PM CT
The Jason Bay to the Rays talks are still alive, but according to Jayson Stark of ESPN there was "very little dialogue" between the two teams on Wednesday.

Our View: The Pirates want two top level prospects as well as two other players, and the Rays appear reluctant to meet those demands. If the Red Sox move Manny Ramirez, rumors are circulating that Bay could be targeted as a replacement in Boston.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 7/30, 4:36 PM CT
Jason Bay is in the Pirates lineup tonight, meaning that a trade to the Rays or another club likely won't happen this evening, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: Of course, a trade could still be worked out during the game, but if a deal was close chances are pretty good that Bay would have been held out of the starting lineup. It will be a tense night and morning for Pirates fans, as Bay seems likely to move before the deadline.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 7/30, 1:41 PM CT
As previously stated, the Pirates and Rays continue to discuss Jason Bay, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It is now revealed that the Pirates are interested in young prospects Reid Brignac (shortstop) and Jeremy Hellickson (pitcher).

Our View: Brignac was the Rays' minor league player of the year in 2006, and would fill a need at shortstop if and when Jack Wilson leaves Pittsburgh. Hellickson would also help the Pirates' thin and unstable rotation. The Rays could afford to part with him, as they have a surplus of great young arms, like David Price. Bay would give the Rays an elite bat to help them nail down the AL East title, and possibly more in the postseason.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 7/30, 7:41 AM CT
The Rays and Pirates are reportedly in deep talks regarding a trade involving Jason Bay, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: There are a few other teams presenting deals for Bay as well, but the source indicates that no truly elite prospects are being offered, and there remains a 50-50 chance Bay will remain in Pittsburgh after the July 31 trade deadline expires.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 7/24, 9:13 PM CT
Jason Bay went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Thursday's 9-1 win over San Diego. He hit a single and a solo homer, his 22nd of the season. His other RBI came on a sacrifice fly.

Our View: Bay extended his hitting streak to four games, with three homers and seven RBI over the span. He is padding his value heading up to the July 31 trade deadline.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 7/23, 1:14 PM CT
Fox Sports indicates that Jason Bay is on the Athletics' radar and they are talking to the Pirates about acquiring him.

Our View: A trade between the two clubs is said to be unlikely however, as the Pirates are asking for more than the Athletics are willing to give.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 7/21, 11:05 PM CT
Jason Bay went 4-for-5 with a homer, one run, and two RBI on Monday. He is up to 20 long balls on the season.

Our View: Bay hit only 21 homers in all of 2007, and he continues to have a bounce back campaign. His May still stands out as by far his most productive month, but he's worth using in all fantasy formats.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 7/12, 10:36 PM CT
The Cards and Pirates battled through 10 innings of baseball this evening to decide a winner, and it was Pittsburgh drawing the lucky straw. Pinch-hitting outfielder Jason Michaels got the game winner with a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th, but it was fellow outfielder Jason Bay keeping the Pirates in the mix, going 2-for-5 with two homers (his 18th and 19th of the season) on the night, totaling five RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Bay is doing well at the plate, hitting .308 through July, but fantasy owners are hoping he can step up the run production. Tonight shows he may be on the verge of doing just that.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 7/11, 5:28 PM CT
SI.com reports that the St. Louis Cardinals are among one of the leaders in the pursuit of Pirates OF Jason Bay. Bay has rebounded from a bad 2007 to post averages of .291/.393/.526.

Our View: Tony La Russa's club is visiting Pittsburgh this weekend so it is possible we could see another big trade go down in the NL Central. The Cardinals have scored just 13 runs over the past seven games so Bay would be a giant boost to the team's success and to the fantasy success of the St. Louis hitters. The Cardinals are also said to be aggressively pursuing left-handed relievers. The Diamondbacks, Mets and Rays were also mentioned in the article as potential Pittsburgh trading partners.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 6/18, 7:09 PM CT
Jason Bay is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's game with flu-like symptoms.

Our View: Bay is hitting in the cleanup spot while Nate McClouth is hitting third rather than leadoff.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 6/17, 11:37 PM CT
Pittsburgh outfielder Jason Bay was out of the lineup for the Pirates tonight, a late scratch due to a stomach virus, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: The team believes it is not serious and he could return to the field tomorrow.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 6/11, 11:38 AM CT
According to The Star-Ledger, Mets GM Omar Minaya has expressed interest in acquiring Jason Bay or Xavier Nady from Pittsburgh. After Moises Alou's latest injury, it is becoming evident that he can not be counted on.

Our View: Bay would be a significant upgrade over Damian Easley and Fernando Tatis.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/29, 9:32 PM CT
Jason Bay went deep for the 13th time this season and also hit his ninth double off the year off of Reds starer Aaron Harang on Thursday.

Our View: Bay has been blazing of late with four home runs and 10 RBI in his last nine games and has two or more hits in six of the last seven games to once again resemble the fantasy stud he has been in years past.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 5/25, 5:19 PM CT
Jason Bay has solidified his place as one of the more talented sluggers in the game today, but he had never before earned a game-winning hit. Yesterday he erased that void from his resume, and today he did it once again, putting the game-winning run across the plate to lead the Pirates to a 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Our View: Bay went 2-for-5 at the dish overall today, hitting his seventh double of the season to drive home one run, the one run that made the most difference in the game.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 5/24, 11:12 PM CT
Jason Bay was the hero for the Pirates Saturday night, picking up four hits, including the game-winning single in the 14th inning. Bay also hit a two-run homer and stole a base.

Our View: Bay has his average up to .287, to go along with 12 homers and 25 ribbies. His knee doesn't appear to be bothering him this year like it did during the '07 campaign.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/22, 9:43 PM CT
Jason Bay hit his 11th home run of the season for the Pirates on his way to a 2-for-4 outing on Thursday. Bay added two RBI and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Bay may have only 22 RBI, but he has scored 33 times and has hit those 11 long balls giving him a lot of value despite the RBI deficiency. So far this has been a decent response to his 2007 season though some more run production would be great.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsTuesday 5/20, 9:32 PM CT
The Pirates have suffered a tough 7-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers this evening as outfielder Jason Bay was the only batter capable of producing runs. Bay went 1-for-3, hitting his 10th home run of the season with one man on to produce two RBIs, the only runs Pittsburgh would score on the evening.

Our View: Bay added a walk, his fourth in as many games. The homer is his third over his last five games, the only hits he has seen during that span.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 5/16, 4:24 PM CT
Jason Bay homered for the second straight game on Friday to give him nine taters on the year.

Our View: Of course his long ball was a solo shot, he has just 18 RBI on the year, but he continues to work the count and get on base which should eventually pay off in the counting categories.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/15, 4:31 PM CT
Jason Bay had a pinch-hit, 3-run home run for the Pirates on Thursday, his eighth home run of the season.

Our View: Bay has and OBP just under .400, and those eight home runs, but he has a horrific 17 RBI though 40 games thanks to a sub .200 average with RISP. Look for that number, and his RBI total, to improve as the season progresses.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 5/14, 11:35 PM CT
In the midst of the pitching clinic RHP Todd Wellemeyer was putting on against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the best hitter on the Pittsburgh team was falling well short of setting a standard for others to follow. LF Jason Bay went 0-for-4 with one strikeout and three men left on base.

Our View: Bay is struggling to keep pace, but no one was hitting Wellenmeyer this evening. Don't read too much into it.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 5/10, 9:07 PM CT
Pittsburgh LF Jason Bay was the monster of misfortune for the Atlanta Braves today, leading his team to a 5-2 win. Bay went 2-for-4 at the dish, hitting his fifth double as well as his seventh home run of the year. Bay totaled two RBIs, two runs scored, and one stolen base (his fourth of the year) in an outstanding effort that proved too much for the Braves to overcome.

Our View: Since hitting May, J-Bay has been getting in the groove: 12-for-31 (.387), seven walks, four strike outs. The only thing missing has been the run production, and tonight he got that done as well.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 5/9, 7:14 PM CT
It's official, Jason Bay has bounced back from a poor 2007 and should continues to produce as the weather warms up. After going 3-4 on Thursday the left fielder raised his average back up to .286 on the season.

Our View: The one category that Bay is lacking is his RBI production. But this is more a product of the Pirates offense than his ability to hit with runners in scoring position.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/8, 3:53 PM CT
Jason Bay went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Giants.

Our View: Bay has now generated five hits over his last two games, and 10 over 24 at-bats in May so far, for a .416 average. He is yet to hit a homer this month though, and only has two RBI.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 5/8, 10:31 AM CT
A handful of teams have contacted the Pirates to inquire about Jason Bay and Xavier Nady, but the team is not prepared to make a deal until it is ruled out as a contender this season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The team is said to be looking at acquisitions through lower-profile trades or waiver claims, with three openings on the 40-man roster, though.

Our View: Bay is hitting .266 and struck out 28 times over 124 at-bats. He has eight homers with 13 RBI, and scored 26 runs over 35 games. Bay has battled injuries, namely with his knee, but he would top 30 homers and 100 RBI if he is able to play a full slate healthy. His trade stock for the Pirates would be high.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 5/3, 3:48 PM CT
Pittsburgh LF Jason Bay did all he could to put the Pirates in the win column, but his efforts came up short as Washington prevailed 9-8. Bay went 2-for-3 at the plate with his third double of the season, adding two walks and two runs scored to the stat line.

Our View: Bay has been swinging a strong bat, now sporting a line of 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored, and four walks over his past two games versus the Nats.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsWednesday 4/23, 9:04 PM CT
Jason Bay went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI on Wednesday night. One of the two hits was a home run, his fourth of the year.

Our View: Those were the first RBI for Bay in eight games as he continues to try and regain the form that marked him as a budding star just two seasons ago.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSaturday 4/19, 1:06 PM CT
It wasn't too long ago when the fantasy owner could look at Pittsburgh's Jason Bay and see a world of potential, but knee injuries in recent seasons have all but ended those hopes, stealing just four bases last season and falling well short of offensive expectation. However, it now appears Bay is fully healthy and back on track to excel in 2008, according to MLB.com. Bay stole his second base of the season in the Pirates' 2-3 loss to the Cubs on Friday night and tells reporters he's going to put his full effort into improving those numbers throughout the season. "I don't think I can lead the league in stolen bases, but I think I can get an extra base here or there," said Bay in speaking to reporters on Saturday morning. "I'm not going to steal 50, but I think I can steal 15 or 20."

Our View: As a result of his returned health and past success, MLB.com reports manager John Russell is giving Bay the green light to steal at will. Of course, there are going to be times when Bay is told to stay put, but this is great news for fantasy owners with Bay on the roster. His skills with the bat are reason to covet him, but his return to status as a premier base runner makes him a top commodity. We'll see how he progresses, but the future looks good.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 4/18, 5:08 PM CT
Jason Bay had two hits, scored a run, and stole his second base of the season on Friday.

Our View: Though he is only hitting .278 on the young season, he has done a very good job controlling the strike zone this season with 13 BB and 13 K, this after a 59/141 split last season. If he continues to work the count, the production should follow.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 4/13, 3:34 PM CT
Jason Bay hit his third home run of the season in support of Pittsburgh’s 1-9 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Our View: Bay went 2-for-4 at the plate, hitting his homer in the 7th with two runners on base, ending the day with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 4/11, 10:11 PM CT
Jason Bay continued his climb back to respectability on Friday night as he hit his second home run of the season. Bay is now working on a five game hitting streak during which time he has seven hits to raise his average from .143 to .281.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 4/10, 12:19 AM CT
Jason Bay entered Wednesday's game hitting .182, with only one extra base hit in 22 at-bats. Bay had zero RBI and had yet to jog around the bases. Through the first seven innings of Wednesday's loss to the Cubs, with Ryan Dempster on the mound, Bay's slump continued. However, once the former Cubs closer departed, Bay found his stroke. The Pirate outfielder hit the game tying home run in the bottom of the ninth off Chicago closer Kerry Wood and finished the evening 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Fantasy owners that believed they stole Bay in the middle rounds of mixed formats, would like some return, any return on their investment. Tonight was a good start to what many would like to think is a bounce back campaign.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 4/7, 8:53 AM CT
The Pirates benched Jason Bay on Sunday as part of a plan to rest his right knee, not because of his slow start at the plate. "It's going to look like I'm doing this because of how things have gone for him," manager John Russell explains to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "That's not the case." Bay was seen with ice around his surgically repaired knee, and it sounds like he could take a seat on a regular basis throughout the season.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 4/6, 11:32 AM CT
Jason Bay will not start on Sunday against the Marlins, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He has been struggling at the plate as he only registered three hits over 18 at-bats, with seven strikeouts, and hopefully he will get on track when he returns.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 4/4, 7:30 AM CT
Jason Bay is having no trouble getting on base, although he isn't helping fantasy owners much. He has reached first in seven of his last eight plate appearances thanks to a pair of singles and five walks. Bay owns a .500 OBP, but he is hitting .200 and has yet to manage an extra-base hit. The patience is nice, but fantasy owners want the pop.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 3/20, 1:23 PM CT
Jason Bay continues to struggle as he struck out twice over four at-bats against the Yankees on Wednesday. His spring average sits at a mere .231, with nine strikeouts over 39 at-bats.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 3/3, 7:50 PM CT
Jason Bay was limited to one hit in Sunday's loss to the Rays, but the center fielder's average is at .400 on the spring and he looks comfortable in all phases of his game. Bay didn't play in Monday's loss to the Phillies. The early round fantasy disappointment of a year ago, hit but .247 with 21 HR and four stolen bases. Those numbers followed a .286, 34 home run campaign. A return to his 2006 numbers makes the Pirate a draft day steal this March -- as he is leaving the draft boards in the middle-rounds of traditional formats.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsFriday 2/15, 2:46 PM CT
Jason Bay could report to spring training as soon as this weekend, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Position players don't have to report until next Tuesday, but Bay has spent the offseason strengthening his right knee, and rules allow injured players to report early. The outfielder will be trying to rebound from a disappointing 2007 campaign.

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/6, 12:02 PM CT
The Pirates may very well trade Jason Bay this offseason, but it won't be to the Indians. When asked if trade talks with the Tribe regarding Bay are dead, Pirates GM Neal Huntington replied with a terse, firm, "yes," according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Bay is coming off a down year and it would probably be in the Bucs' best interest to hang on to him.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsThursday 12/6, 11:13 AM CT
Once the Tigers acquired Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from the Marlins, there were reports the Indians picked up their trade talks with Pittsburgh regarding Jason Bay. However, the Indians deny their interest in Bay has been renewed, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It's still possible the Pirates will trade Bay this offseason, but this really isn't the best time to trade him, considering he's coming off a down year.

Jason Bay's sore right knee will keep him out of action for most of the final week of the season, the Pirates official site reports. While Bay will be available to pinch-hit, his availability to play in the outfield will be limited (and that availability will be determined on a day-to-day basis).

Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsMonday 9/10, 11:43 PM CT
Pirates outfielder Jason Bay has no structural damage in his right knee, based on an MRI exam Monday, according to the Associated Press. He hopes to resume playing later this week.

Our View: It was thought Bay may be finished for 2007 with his knee injury, so the news that he may be back on the field is great for his fantasy owners.
Jason Bay, LF, New York MetsSunday 9/9, 6:25 PM CT
Jason Bay left Saturday's game with a sore right knee. He's slated to undergo an MRI to determine whether there is any structural damage, according to the AP.
