Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 10/11, 9:59 PM CT
With his three strikeouts on Sunday, Jason Kubel wrapped up his postseason with nine strikeouts in 14 at-bats. His only hit against the Yankees was a single.

Our View: If there's any finger pointing in Minnesota, Kubel would be a good place to start. While he did play a big part down the stretch for the Twins, his disappearance in the playoffs was concerning.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 10/6, 9:10 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Rick Porcello in tonight's 6-5 win over the Tigers at the Metrodome. The game took 12 innings to decide which team will move on to the playoffs.

Our View: Kubel closed out the regular season with a .300 batting average, 28 homers and 103 RBI. He will be counted on when the Twins open their playoff series at New York tomorrow.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 10/4, 6:05 PM CT
Jason Kubel smacked a pair of three-run homers on Sunday to give the Twins a 13-4 win that forces a one game playoff against the Tigers for the AL Central championship.

Our View: Kubel finished the game 3-for-4 with six RBI and has been one of the biggest fantasy surprises of the season. Sunday's explosive performance raised his average to .300 and gave him his first 100-RBI season. He also set a career high with 27 homers.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 10/2, 11:13 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 10-7 win over the Royals at the Metrodome. He hit a single and a solo homer off Victor Marte.

Our View: Kubel ended an eight-game drought without a homer, and now has 25 for 2009. He also racked up 96 RBI in his breakout campaign.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 9/29, 9:25 PM CT
Jason Kubel was productive in tonight's 6-5 loss at Detroit, as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Kubel went 4-for-7 on the day, after going hitless over his previous four games (13 at-bats).
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsMonday 9/14, 5:05 PM CT
Jason Kubel remains out of Minnesota's lineup for tonight's home game against Cleveland while still nursing a sore neck, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Rookie Justin Huber will serve in the DH role in Kubel's place. Kubel has been hitting well this month, and it took a neck ailment to slow him down.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 9/8, 9:26 PM CT
Jason Kubel was productive in tonight's 6-3 loss at Toronto, as he went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. He also scored a run.

Our View: Kubel is hot so far this month, as he has two hits in three of his last six games. He now has 81 RBI for 2009, and has time to reach 100 for the first time in his career.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 9/2, 3:09 PM CT
Jason Kubel singled in what appeared to be the game-winning runs against the White Sox in the sixth inning on Wednesday, only to witness Joe Nathan have his worst outing since 2005, as the White Sox rallied for a 4-2 win on the road.

Our View: Kubel is in the midst a career year, and if he plays hot in September, he could finish with his first .300 average for a season, first 30-homer season and first 100-RBI season.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/30, 7:42 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Rangers.

Our View: The Twins are cruising right now, thanks in part to Kubel's .300 average and 17 RBI in August. The home he cracked on Sunday was his 21st of the season, a new career high.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 8/19, 6:05 PM CT
Jason Kubel is still sporting a sleeve on his bruised left knee, but was deemed fit to start tonight's game at Texas, according to MLBblogs.com. He will serve in the DH role.

Our View: Kubel is also batting cleanup, and should be fine to pencil into fantasy lineups at launching pad Rangers Ballpark.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 8/18, 8:11 PM CT
Jason Kubel exited Tuesday's battle at Texas after bruising his left knee, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Kubel fouled a ball off his left leg, and remained down for several minutes before heading to the dugout. He was replaced by Brendan Harris, and his status is yet to be updated.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 8/14, 10:08 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with five RBI and a run scored in tonight's 11-0 win over Cleveland at the Metrodome. He hit two singles and a two-run homer off Tomo Ohka.

Our View: Kubel has a hit in nine of 10 games this month, with a .381 batting average. He tied his career season-high with 20 homers tonight as well, and should remain active in fantasy lineups while swinging a hot stick.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 7/25, 8:14 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in the Twins' 11-5 loss to the Angels.

Our View: Kubel now has five homers and 16 RBI this month and the Twins outfielder is having a breakout season. His line for the year: .315-18-58. Nothing to shake a stick at.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 7/17, 11:17 PM CT
Jason Kubel had a nice night at the plate on Friday as the Twins defeated the Rangers 5-3. Kubel went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the game.

Our View: Kubel is still hitting over .300 at .314, and he should be utilized in all leagues at this point. He can give power numbers at times, and if he keeps his average up over .300 he will continue to be a good fantasy option.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 7/10, 10:04 PM CT
Jason Kubel carried the Twins in tonight's 6-4 win over the White Sox at the Metrodome, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI. He hit a single and two doubles.

Our View: He raised his batting average to .312, and has eight hits and three RBI over his last four games. Keep him active in fantasy leagues while swinging a hot stick.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsThursday 7/9, 3:53 PM CT
Jason Kubel went deep on Thursday, but the Twins fell to the Yankees by a score of 6-4. Kubel went 1-for-3 with the homer, a run scored, and an RBI. He also managed to walk once as well.

Our View: Kubel now has 14 homers, and he is hitting .306 on the year. Those are both pretty solid numbers, and they are probably good enough to make him worthy of mixed league ownership. As long as the average stays up and the power comes periodically, he should remain a solid fantasy performer.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 6/26, 11:47 PM CT
Jason Kubel was productive in tonight's 3-1 win at St. Louis, as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He hit a double and a single.

Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/24, 11:45 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Braden Looper in tonight's 4-3 loss at Milwaukee.

Our View: Kubel seems to be fine following his bout with the flu, evidenced by tonight's solid outing. He remains a strong source for power this month with eight homers.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/24, 5:49 PM CT
Jason Kubel is set to return to the Twins' lineup tonight at Milwaukee after missing time due to flu-like symptoms, according to the Star-Tribune.

Our View: Kubel will bat fifth and roam in left field, since the Twins' cannot use a DH at an NL ballpark. Kubel should be fine to return to fantasy lineups.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 6/23, 5:52 PM CT
Jason Kubel remains out of the Twins' lineup for tonight's game at Milwaukee while dealing with flu-like symptoms, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: Kubel could be ready to return to the diamond Wednesday. We will keep you posted on his status.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 6/21, 9:35 PM CT
Jason Kubel exited Sunday's game against Houston with flu-like symptoms.

Our View: The Twins have a day off Monday, and Kubel may be ready to return to action Tuesday at Milwaukee.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 6/13, 3:13 PM CT
Jason Kubel provided most of the Twins' offense with one swing on Saturday as they defeated the Cubs 2-0. Kubel went 1-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and an RBI.

Our View: There wasn't much offense by either team today, but Kubel's bomb in the second inning off starter Rich Harden gave the Twins enough to win the game. Kubel has shown some power in June, but he is still a very average fantasy play.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsThursday 6/4, 3:41 PM CT
Jason Kubel had an absolutely monster afternoon on Thursday in the Twins' 11-3 victory over the Indians. Kubel went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, two runs scored, and six RBI in the game.

Our View: Bet you wish you had Kubel on your team today. For any of you who do, congratulations. For the rest of you, no need to rush out and pick him up based on this game alone. While he was outstanding today, he had only five home runs going into the game. His average is solid, and he is contributing on a regular basis, but he is probably best served as an AL-only leaguer. Deeper mixed leagues could possibly use him as well.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsMonday 6/1, 2:48 PM CT
Jason Kubel was back in the lineup Sunday after sitting out Saturday with a sore knee.

Our View: Kubel has been displaying less power than a year ago, but is still a viable fantasy option at utility or outfield positions in deeper leagues. However, he remains a liability vs. left-handed pitchers.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 5/22, 6:31 PM CT
Jason Kubel was scratched from Friday night's lineup due to swelling in his knee. He twisted his knee on Thursday while avoiding Denard Span in the outfield. He was scheduled to visit the doctor on Friday and manager Ron Gardenhire said he does not expect the injury to be serious.

Our View: This is probably why Kubel is better utilized as a DH. He is off to a strong start this season as he is hitting .336/.373/.536 on the season. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsThursday 5/14, 3:16 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 6-5 win over the Tigers at the HHH Metrodome. He hit two doubles and a single.

Our View: He raised his season average to .333, and is hot as he racked up six hits (one homer, two doubles, three singles) over his last three games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 5/2, 3:34 PM CT
Jason Kubel is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals. Justin Morneau is at DH, and Brian Buscher is handling first base, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Our View: We have to wonder if there is a good reason behind Morneau moving to DH. Kubel tends to mash the ball at home and hammer right-handers, so it's odd to see him sitting against Brian Bannister.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 4/25, 9:30 PM CT
Jason Kubel was zoned in again on Saturday as he went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored as the Twins beat the Indians 7-1.

Our View: Kubel has doubled in three straight games and he has 14 hits in his last seven. Expect Kubel to continue to serve as the DH in the cleanup spot until Joe Maurer returns. Following his return, he figures to hit fifth and have even more RBI opportunities.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsThursday 4/23, 9:21 AM CT
Jason Kubel is dealing with neck pain, but was able to play in both games of Wednesday's doubleheader with Boston, according to the Star Tribune. He went 2-for-7.

Our View: Kubel looks to be fine to keep employed in fantasy lineups. He has 10 hits (one homer, one triple and three doubles) over his last five games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 4/22, 2:40 PM CT
Jason Kubel indicated that he is dealing with nagging neck pain, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View: Kubel was sporting a heating pad around his neck prior to today's game at Boston. He believes he will be fine, and should remain penciled into fantasy lineups as he has eight hits over his last three games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 4/18, 10:19 PM CT
Jason Kubel was all over the base paths in the Twins 9-2 win on Saturday. The big DH was 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored.

Our View: Kubel has been a nice surprise this season, hitting .366 and driving in 12, but he's usually riding the pine when a lefty is on the mound. This limits his fantasy value and can make for constant, frustrating lineup changes on your team.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 4/17, 11:42 PM CT
Orlando Hudson and Ian Kinsler have company. Twins outfielder Jason Kubel hit for the cycle against the Angels on Friday night. He doubled in the first inning, singled in the third, tripled in the sixth, and socked a grand slam in the eighth. Kubel finished with five RBI and two runs.

Our View: Kubel's gran slam capped off a furious comeback by the Twins, who can't seem to win any other way at this point. The club continues to mainly only use Kubel against righties, which limits his upside.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsMonday 4/13, 11:44 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Monday's 8-6 loss to Toronto.

Our View: Kubel hit cleanup for the Twins, and he may stick in that role. The team has struggled to find reliable hitters to fill Joe Mauer's absence, but Kubel has shown the potential to be that bat throughout his minor league career. Perhaps this is the season that talent translates to the pro level.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 3/27, 4:40 PM CT
Jason Kubel was 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI on Friday. He's now hitting an even .400 this spring.

Our View: Kubel is slated to be the Twins DH this season, and has a nice amount of pop. He's a strong pick in AL-only leagues, but gets lost in the shuffle of deep mixed leagues.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 3/18, 3:17 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 2-for-3 in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Kubel raised his spring average to .407. Kubel crushed 20 homers over 141 games last season, and should remain a nice source for power in AL-only leagues while serving primarily as the Twins' DH.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 3/6, 2:50 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds.

Our View: The Twins' outfield is crowded, but Kubel should see enough at-bats in the DH role to be useful for AL-only leagues. He is batting .429 so far in the Grapefruit League.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 1/27, 7:07 PM CT
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the two-year deal Twins infielder Jason Kubel signed last Tuesday is worth $7 million. He could earn an additional $5 million in 2011 via a club option. Kubel's annual salary will be roughly $2.75 million.

Our View: The deal will become officially when the Twins can confirm the lab work stemming from Kubel's physical.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 1/20, 2:18 PM CT
Jason Kubel has signed a two-year deal with the Twins, according to the Star Tribune. The deal includes an option for 2011, but financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Kubel was a valuable member of the Twins last season, batting .272 with 20 home runs, 78 RBI and 74 runs scored. He is expected to be the opening day DH.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 1/13, 9:39 AM CT
The Minnesota Twins are thinking about giving Jason Kubel a deal for two years, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View: Kubel has two years of arbitration left, so any deal of that length would eliminate the need for that. He was a valuable member of the team last season, hitting .272 with 20 home runs and 78 RBI.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 12/23, 7:25 AM CT
The Twins won't part with Jason Kubel, which is part of the reason why it would be difficult to acquire Mark DeRosa from the Cubs, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: The 26-year-old Kubel broke out with 20 homers and 78 RBI over 141 games last season, and it is understandable why the Twins won't offer him in a trade.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 12/12, 3:22 PM CT
The Twins tendered a contract to Jason Kubel, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: He will not become a free agent. Kubel enjoyed a solid campaign with the Twins in 2008, as he collected 20 homers and 78 RBI over 141 games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 9/23, 10:13 PM CT
Jason Kubel had a great game for the Twins on an important night, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two home runs to lead the Twins to a 9-3 win over the White Sox.

Our View: Kubel now has 20 home runs on the season, and has been a solid option for those in deep mixed leagues or AL-only leagues.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 9/10, 10:25 PM CT
Jason Kubel had three hits and two RBI against the Royals on Wednesday night in the Twins 7-1 win.

Our View: Kubel has had a hit in 10 of his last 12 games and has helped keep the Twins in the division race.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/17, 6:15 PM CT
Minnesota outfielder Jason Kubel continues to swing a hot bat, going 4-for-5 today to help his Twins get the 11-8 win over Seattle. Kuben hit two doubles to register two RBIs and four runs scored on the night.

Our View: Kubel is warming up in August, hitting .317 after posting an average of just .271 in July. He also carries just five strikeouts along that span with three homers and eight RBIs.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 8/15, 10:43 PM CT
Jason Kubel led the offensive charge for the Twins Friday, picking up three hits, including his 17th homer, in a win over Seattle.

Our View: Kubel has put together a respectable .269-17-61 line this year. It's clear he'll never be the star the Twins anticipated, but he's been pretty solid.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 8/6, 12:30 AM CT
Jason Kubel did his best to carry the Twins on Tuesday night in Seattle. The DH hit a solo homer in the sixth, two-run shot in the eighth, and double in the ninth, but the Twins fell 8-7 to the Mariners. Kubel ended up 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI.

Our View: Kubel even hit a rare homer off a left-hander in this contest. He mashes right-handed pitching, and if he could ever figure out the other side, we might have a pretty good fantasy player on our hands.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 7/18, 10:09 PM CT
The Twins had the offense rolling this evening in putting the 6-0 whooping on the Rangers, led by designated hitter Jason Kubel . Kubel went 2-for-4 at the dish, hitting his 10th double of the season to finish with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Kubel has cooled after a strong June (.312, 6 HRs), hitting just .250 for the month of July with just one homer and two RBIs coming into tonight. He has been a strong contributor for the Minnesota cause, thus getting him back in order will be of great benefit.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 6/28, 9:39 PM CT
Jason Kubel provided all of the Twins offense on Saturday night with his 12th home run of the season.

Our View: Kubel went 1-for-2 with two walks in a loss that ended the Twins 10-game winning streak.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 6/27, 11:00 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in Friday's close 7-6 win over the Brewers. He hit a single and a homer.

Our View: The Twins have now won 10-straight games. Kubel has emerged as a decent fantasy option, as he has 11 homers and 40 RBI over 69 games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 6/15, 5:38 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Milwaukee.

Our View: He has 10 home runs for the season, with four coming in June. He also recorded an RBI in five of his last eight games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 9:52 PM CT
Minnesota designated hitter Jason Kubel enjoyed a wonderful evening with the stick this evening as the Twins put the 8-5 win on the Indians. Kubel went 3-for-4 at the plate, including his eighth home run of the season to total two RBIs.

Our View: Kubel has gotten going of late, hitting 8-for-19 with two home runs and seven RBIs over his last six games.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 6/8, 6:11 PM CT
Minnesota found nothing but headaches waiting for them a the park today, taking the 12-2 loss against the Chicago White Sox. The Twins posted just seven total hits on the day, all posted by different players without a single batter posting multiple hits. Outfielder Jason Kubel gets the nod of the day, going 1-for-4 with is seventh home run of the season.

Our View: Kubel has been fine tuning his eye at the plate, touting five walks versus just three strikeouts through June thus far. Today's homer is his first since May 25th.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 5/25, 3:04 PM CT
Jason Kubel went 2-for-3 and racked up four RBI in Sunday's 6-1 win over Detroit.

Our View: All four RBI came on a grand slam, which was his sixth homer of the season. He now has 25 RBI over 44 games.

Jason Kubel had a tough day at the plate in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the White Sox, as he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, while leaving six men on base.

Our View: At times Kubel looks like a fantasy star, and at other times he falls out of favor with performances like today.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsMonday 4/14, 10:02 PM CT
Jason Kubel continues to produce. The outfielder/DH went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in Monday's loss to the Tigers. Kubel is 8-for-24 with two homers and nine RBI in six games during the current road trip.

Our View: Kubel's bat came alive during the second half in 2007, and it's beginning to look like that wasn't a fluke. It's still early, of course, but he could be headed towards a breakout year.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsMonday 4/14, 1:01 PM CT
Manager Gardenhire praised Jason Kubel, who has three homers and nine RBI over 11 games, according to MLB.com. Gardenhire commented, "I've said all along, 'This guy is one of our best hitters. It was just a matter of time. Last year, I thought the last month and a half we were starting to see signs of his legs underneath him better and him really being able to get after balls. In spring training, we saw him put a lot of good swings out there. I think you are seeing a guy that is coming along and his legs are really underneath him right now."

Our View: This is encouraging news, and his fantasy stock should continue to rise.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 4/12, 9:04 PM CT
Jason Kubel had two hits on Saturday night including his third home run of the early season. He now has nine RBI in 10 games for the Twins.

Our View: Perhaps this early season performance will put the idea of Kubel splitting at-bats this season totally out of the Twins minds. If they just let him play everyday, it would appear that Kubel could possibly produce a 25 HR, 90 RBI type season.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 4/9, 11:04 PM CT
Jason Kubel did the bulk of the Twins’ damage against the Chicago White Sox, winning 12-5 this evening. Kubel went 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run homer and SIX total RBIs on the evening. Kubel hasn’t been a major contributor (hitting .269), but he’s capable of doing damage like this on just about any given night.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 4/1, 4:26 PM CT
Jason Kubel will start at DH tonight for the Twins after sitting in favor of Craig Monroe in the opener, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Kubel ripped a double last night while pinch-hitting for Monroe, who was 0-for-3 at the plate.

Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/18, 1:39 AM CT
Jason Kubel took batting practice on Friday and is feeling better after straining his oblique at Los Angeles against the Angels last Saturday, the AP reports. "He's swinging OK," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "At first he was a little bit tentative, but the more swings he took, the better he did." Kubel was available to pinch hit and could be back in the outfield in the next few days, Gardenhire said.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 8/15, 6:02 AM CT
Jason Kubel hit lightly off a tee and did some light agility work on Tuesday, his first real action since straining his right oblique while striking out in the second inning Saturday, the AP reports. Kubel said he felt better and might be able to take a full batting practice on Friday when the Twins return home. "They don't tell me how many days it's going to be but they don't think it's going to be a DL type thing," Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire said.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 8/14, 9:01 AM CT
Jason Kubel was able to take 25 swings without pain on Monday and may not be headed for the disabled list after all. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Kubel's strained right oblique muscle felt good enough that he may be able to return to the lineup as soon as Friday.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsMonday 8/13, 9:04 AM CT
It appears likely that Jason Kubel will require a trip to the disabled list, though the Twins plan to wait a couple of days to make sure that's necessary. "This is not something that goes away in a day or two. Usually it's a couple of weeks, at least," manager Ron Gardenhire told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Kubel strained his right oblique on Saturday. All signs point to a DL stint, but there's at least a chance that he will show enough improvement to stay active.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/12, 8:53 AM CT
Jason Kubel could be out of action for a while after straining an oblique muscle in his chest Saturday. "We won't really know how bad it is until (today)," mabager Ron Gardenhire told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Obliques are one of those things that can linger on forever, so I don't have an answer for how long it's going to be. But obviously it's not a short-term thing. We'll know more (today)." Things don't sound promising for Kubel, who could end up on the disabled list. We'll know more once he's examined further on Sunday.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsFriday 7/20, 9:42 AM CT
Jason Kubel wasn't supposed to start on Thursday, but he got the nod because of several injuries in the Twins outfield and responded by going 3-for-4 with a homer and a double. He broke an 0-for-16 stretch and bounced back from an awful at-bat in a pinch-hitting appearance on Wednesday. Manager Ron Gardenhire addressed Kubel's three-pitch strikeout against left Andrew Miller, telling the team's official website, "That's a tough lefty, but you've got to swing. Three fastballs. It wasn't breaking balls. Take the first one, I understand. Second one, third one, you've gotta swing…Somewhere in there, you've gotta take a whack."

Jason Kubel underwent surgery on his right knee last week to repair a torn meniscus, but he's expected to be ready for spring training, according to the Star-Tribune. This is not the knee that caused Kubel to miss the entire 2005 season. "Everything structurally is fine," GM Terry Ryan said. "He will be ready to go. I'm almost relieved that there was something in the good knee that didn't allow him to function. We have the health issues taken care of now, so we can move on."
