Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsSunday 8/23, 5:15 PM CT
Ronny Paulino was productive in Sunday's 7-5 loss at Atlanta, as he went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Our View: Paulino tied his season-high with three RBI in a game, and was in need of a solid outing as he only collected two RBI over his previous seven games this month.

Ronny Paulino was 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored in the Marlins 11-3 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Our View: Paulino serves as the right-handed portion of a catching platoon in Florida and he is hitting southpaws at a .317 clip this season. He entered the year with a career mark of .358 against them.

MLB.com reports that Ronny Paulino is living up to the Marlins expectations and they plan to continue splitting time between he and fellow catcher John Baker.

Our View: Paulino bats right and Baker bats left, so this appears to be a classic platoon situation. Paulino has a career mark of .358 against southpaws, so there might be some fantasy value here. Of course, he would likely only hold value in leagues that allow daily lineup changes and owners would have to keep close watch on the Marlins pitching matchups.

Ronny Paulino was dealt twice on Friday, first from Philadelphia to San Francisco for left-handed pitcher Jack Taschner, and later from the Giants to the Marlins for right-handed pitcher Hector Correa, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Our View: Overall, the end result will give Paulino a much better opportunity to play. In Philadelphia, he was beaten out by Chris Coste for the backup role at catcher, and the Phillies also have a young prospect in Lou Marson that's probably just a year or so away from contributing in the big leagues. In Florida, on the other hand, Paulino will backup the lefty John Baker and probably see relatively consistent playing time when the Marlins face a left-handed pitcher. Still, it'd take either an injury or major struggles from Baker before Paulino received any fantasy value.

MLB.com reports that the Phillies are shopping Ronny Paulino as Chris Coste has won the No. 2 catcher job this spring. Carlos Ruiz will serve as the team's primary catcher.

Our View: Paulino's bat went silent last season as he hit .212 and even spent some time in Triple-A. He hasn't looked much better this spring (hitting just .185), and the Phillies would have to eat most of his contract to move him.

Ronny Paulino is battling Chris Coste for the No. 2 role at catcher, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Skipper Charlie Manuel noted that there is currently no clear favorite for the job. Carlos Ruiz will be the No. 1 starter for opening day.

Ronny Paulino led Licey in the Caribbean League playoffs by collecting four RBI in a 5-2 win over Aguilas Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The 27-year-old backstop will battle Chris Coste for starts at catcher with the Phillies in 2009, assuming Coste isn't traded.

Catcher Ronny Paulino was traded across the state from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia on Wednesday, according to Delaware Online. The Phils will send Triple-A catcher Jason Jaramillo to the Pirates for Paulino, a .278 hitter in parts of the past four seasons.

Our View: Paulino, 27, is a major-league-caliber catcher, so this figures to fuel the speculation that Chris Coste will be packaged in a trade, perhaps the multi-team deal that would bring Mark DeRosa to Philly.

The Marlins are in the market for a catcher and are believed to be interested in the Pirates' Ronny Paulino, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Paulino is on the Pirates' trading block, but the offers have not yet been favorable, likely because he spent a majority of the 2008 season in the minors. It is unknown what the Marlins would be willing to give up to acquire him.

Catcher Ronny Paulino is available for trade, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Paulino is having a performing well in the Dominican Winter League and has had his moments in the majors. Still, the streaky hitter managed just a .212 batting average last season.

Catcher Ronny Paulino homered twice and drove in five runs in the Dominican Winter League on Friday. He has seven hits, three walks and three steals through 12 at-bats.

Our View: The Pirates would probably like to ship Paulino elsewhere as they have other plans at catcher. He has shown glimpses of being a worthy Major League starter, but struggled with a .212 batting average in 118 at-bats last season.

MLB.com reports that Ronny Paulino will start at catcher for the first time since May 31 and just the 26th time this season.

Our View: It's still somewhat murky as to where or if the organization sees Paulino fitting into its long-term plans as a capable backup to Ryan Doumit. Paulino will be playing winter ball this offseason after a one-year hiatus, and how he prepares physically before Spring Training could also go a long way in answering that question.

Ronny Paulino's sprained right ankle was believed to be minor, but he is still not playing, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He is progressing in his rehab, but there remains no timetable for his return to the Pirates.

Our View: Paulino wouldn't be play much behind Ryan Doumit (holds a .323 average) if he was with the Pirates right now anyway.

Ronny Paulino was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis after Thursday's win over the Astros.

Our View: Ryan Doumit was activated from the disabled list forcing the team to make a roster move.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsWednesday 6/4, 9:51 AM CT
Ronny Paulino could be sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis to keep Raul Chavez as the team's backup catcher when Ryan Doumit returns from the DL, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Manager John Russell is pleased with Chavez and commented, "I really like the way he's catching. I especially like how he's handling the rotation. We're seeing some clean innings. Now, is that totally the catcher? No, the pitchers are most important."

Our View: Chavez is 35-years old, but Paulino is struggling at the plate with a .218 average over 110 at-bats, with only two homers and 18 RBI.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsMonday 5/19, 6:54 PM CT
Ronny Paulino has reclaimed his starting role in the absence of Ryan Doumit, and Paulino is intent on proving he deserves the starting gig even when Doumit is healthy, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Paulino is hitting just .218 in 78 AB this year and provides a much less dynamic presence at the plate that Doutmit. Considering how well Doumit did before going down to injury, Paulino is going to have to set the world on fire to maintain a starting spot once Doumit is healthy.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsThursday 5/15, 4:29 PM CT
Ronny Paulino, starting for the injured Ryan Doumit, went 2-for-5 with two runs scored for the Pirates.

Our View: With Doumit out for possibly up to four weeks, Paulino will get the chance to show that he should have been receiving more AB all along.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsTuesday 5/13, 11:31 PM CT
Ronny Paulino replaced on injured Ryan Doumit early in the game and he came up big at the plate with two hits, two runs and two RBI for the Pirates.

Our View: We still don't have word on the extent of Doumit's injury (hand), but if Paulino is forced into an every day role he becomes an immediate pickup in leagues that start two catchers if he is still on waivers.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsThursday 4/3, 11:15 AM CT
Ronny Paulino will start at catcher against Atlanta on Thursday, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Ryan Doumit started the first two games for Pittsburgh, but the team is facing lefty Mike Hampton today, which is why Paulino gets the call. He notably played in 133 games in 2007.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsSaturday 2/23, 10:54 AM CT
" Ronny Paulino is our catcher," said Pirates manager John Russell, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. However, Russell added, "But, as we've told everyone, there's no entitlement anymore. You've got to keep doing what you're supposed to do to play. We've relayed that message to everybody, and Ronny knows that." Basically, the Pirates informed Paulino that Ryan Doumit will get a fair shot at unseating Paulino as the everyday catcher or platooning with him, so watch their performances this spring to see how it fleshes out.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsWednesday 1/9, 11:14 AM CT
Ronny Paulino reported to the Pirates minicamp Tuesday 10 pounds lighter than he was at the end of last season. He now tips the scales at about 235, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Perhaps Paulino got tired of all the talk of the Bucs bringing in another catcher, because he certainly appears motivated to keep his job. Paul Maholm, Ryan Doumit and Zach Duke have also shed some pounds over the offseason.
Ronny Paulino, C, Florida MarlinsThursday 7/19, 7:29 AM CT
Ronny Paulino was back in the lineup Wednesday after not playing the previous three games in favor of Ryan Doumit, the AP reports. Paulino went 0-for-3, dropping his average to .236.

Ronny Paulino homered Tuesday and is now hitting .500 this spring, including 23 hits in his last 38 at-bats, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. He's got four homers and 15 RBI for the month.
