David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 10/2, 10:54 PM CT
David Ross was productive in tonight's 6-3 loss to the Nationals at Turner Field, as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Ross had a solid night at the plate, and provided good depth as Brian McCann's backup this season.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/6, 4:30 PM CT
David Ross was 1-for-4 with his first home run since June 26 on Sunday, but couldn't prevent the Braves from losing, as Atlanta fell 4-2 to the Reds in 12 innings.

Our View: As Brian McCann's back-up, and with only two RBI since June, Ross has no value in even deep NL-only formats.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/26, 9:57 PM CT
David Ross went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off closer Jon Papelbon, and recorded the Braves' lone RBI in tonight's 4-1 loss to the Red Sox at Turner Field.

Our View: Ross was a bright spot for Atlanta while starting in place of the ailing Brian McCann (dizziness). The Braves had eight hits in the game, and stranded 23 men on base.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/2, 7:44 PM CT
David Ross went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Saturday's 5-1 loss to Houston at Turner Field. He stranded four men on base.

Our View: Ross has now struck out eight times over his last 14 at-bats. He is not a worthy replacement at catcher while Brian McCann deals with his eye issue.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/26, 2:57 PM CT
Catcher David Ross went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and two walks in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

Our View: Ross has hit well since coming off the DL, and he is due to see regular at-bats while Brian McCann (eye) is out. This backup has good power, but his career .225 major league average tells a dangerous story.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/19, 5:04 PM CT
Catcher David Ross got another start in place of Brian McCann on Sunday as the Braves beat the Pirates 11-1. He hit his first home run and double of the season while driving in three runs.

Our View: Ross has played twice in the last four days and hit pretty well in both games. Unfortunately, with McCann in front of him he doesn't figure to have any fantasy value.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/16, 11:52 AM CT
As expected, the Braves activated catcher David Ross from the DL and inserted him into the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. He was out with a pulled groin.

Our View: Ross does not expect to see much action this season behind Brian McCann but he is needed to spell the all-star on occasion. He holds no fantasy value.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/15, 3:06 PM CT
The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that David Ross is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Thursday and could start in place of Brian McCann.

Our View: Ross will be a backup for this season unless something happens to McCann, so no fantasy value unless McCann goes down with an injury.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 4/4, 3:39 PM CT
David Ross (strained right groin) has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Braves, according to MLB.com. The move is retroactive to April 2.

Our View: Clint Sammons will serve as Brian McCann's backup until Ross is ready to return. Ross only hit .225 with three homers over 142 at-bats in 2008, and is not expected to hold much fantasy value as long as McCann remains intact.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 12/5, 3:39 PM CT
As expected, the Braves have inked David Ross to a two-year deal, according to the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Ross won't hold much fantasy value, but will provide adequate depth behind Brian McCann at catcher.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 12/3, 7:52 PM CT
David Ross is close to signing with the Braves to back up Brian McCann, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Ross hit .225 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 60 games. The Red Sox don't look like they're going to bring him back.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 11/25, 12:12 PM CT
David Ross is on the Astros' radar, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Brad Ausmus isn't returning, and Humberto Quintero and J.R. Towles may not be ready for a full-time role behind the plate. There are six other clubs believed to be interested in Ross as well.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/29, 3:26 PM CT
Catcher David Ross was called up to take the roster spot of pitcher Josh Beckett, who was put on the disabled list, according to RedSox.com.

Our View: Ross has no fantasy value as the third catcher on the team, behind Jason Varitek and Kevin Cash.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/21, 9:07 AM CT
The Red Sox have signed David Ross to a minor league deal, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: He will report to Triple-A Pawtucket, and eventually get called up to work as the No. 3 catcher behind Jason Varitek and Kevin Cash. The Sox would need to promote Ross by August 31 to make him eligible for their post-season roster. He will provide solid insurance at the position, but his fantasy value shall remain minimal.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 8/20, 2:08 PM CT
The Phillies remain interested in catcher David Ross, but he would not be expected to replace Carlos Ruiz or Chris Coste on the 25-man roster, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He would likely work at Triple-A Lehigh, and join the Phillies when rosters expand in September.

Our View: The Phillies cannot make a move for Ross until he clears waivers, which takes two business days. Since Ross was released Monday, he could be claimed or clear waivers today. Boston is also reportedly interested in Ross.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/18, 5:24 PM CT
The Phillies are interested in the recently released David Ross, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Our View: Rosenthal speculates that the Phils could add Ross as a replacement for Carlos Ruiz right away, or they could send Ross to Triple-A and then bring him up when rosters expand.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/10, 11:05 AM CT
David Ross has been designated for assignment, according to the AP. The Reds recalled catcher Ryan Hanigan from Triple-A Louisville as the adjoining move.

Our View: Ross failed to find his power stroke with only three homers over 134 at-bats, and failed to keep his job with a mere .231 batting average.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/10, 4:51 PM CT
David Ross hit two of the Reds seven home runs on Thursday after entering the game with but a single long ball in 94 games.

Our View: Ross had three hits on the day to boost his average to .265. More telling is the fact that perhaps this will signal a power outburst for a backstop who has hit 38 home runs the past two seasons in just 558 AB.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 7/4, 10:16 AM CT
The Florida Marlins are looking into acquiring David Ross from the Cincinnati Reds in a trade, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Ross is of no use to fantasy players, but he would provide the Marlins depth behind the plate.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 7/1, 7:11 PM CT
Cincinnati catcher David Ross normally does not sit behind the plate when Edinson Volquez is on the mound, but that will change tonight as the Reds face Pittsburgh and LHP Zach Duke, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The right-handed-hitting Ross was favored over lefty Paul Bako, as left-handed hitters are batting just .218 against Duke this season. Righties, meanwhile, are hitting .313. Ross' bat has also come alive as of late. He's hit safely in five of his last six games, including a ninth-inning double on Monday that set up Ken Griffey Jr.'s walk-off home run. Ross has raised his average from .224 to .244 since June 17.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/28, 9:00 PM CT
The Cincinnati Reds put a hurt on the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening, winning 9-1 in effort led by catcher David Ross . Ross went 2-for-3 with a walk at the dish with his first home run of the season, good for four RBIs on the night.

Our View: Ross has been struggling in limited action this season, but he has gone 10-for-31 through May .
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/23, 2:05 PM CT
David Ross has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. He was recovering from back spasms. The team placed outfielder Norris Hopper on the DL, to make room on the roster for Ross.

Our View: Ross will return to his starting role at catcher, pushing Paul Bako back to the bench as the top backup. Javier Valentin has been used mainly as a pinch-hitter. Ross will hit for a low average and won't generate a strong RBI count, and holds value primarily for his power, as he hit 17 homers over 112 games in 2007.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/11, 7:48 PM CT
David Ross, in the minors on a rehab assignment because of back spasms, suffered a setback recently with a sore left groin, and as a result he likely won't be activated from the DL on on Tuesday as previously hoped, this according to MLB.com. Javier Valentin and Paul Bako have been holding down the fort with the Reds so there is no urgency to get Ross back in the lineup until he is 100% healthy.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/9, 8:49 AM CT
David Ross has missed a couple of games on his rehab assignment with a slight leg muscle strain, but he is scheduled to catch Thursday, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. Ross is eligible to come off the DL on Monday.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/4, 7:37 AM CT
David Ross headed to Single-A Sarasota on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, the Cincinnati Enquirer notes. Ross is dealing with back spasms, and we imagine he'll only need 3-5 days before jumping back to the majors.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/30, 8:37 AM CT
The Reds placed catcher David Ross on the 15-day disabled list Saturday. Ross is suffering from lower back spasms and missed the majority of spring work. Ross will see some Triple-A at-bats before returning to the starting lineup. Expect Paul Bako and Javier Valentin to share time in Ross' absence.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 3/28, 8:57 AM CT
It looks like David Ross has a good shot at being ready for the start of the season and avoiding the disabled list, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He was able to work Wednesday night's game and follow that up with seven innings in Thursday's afternoon contest. Ross has been out with back spasms, and so long as he makes it through the weekend without a setback, he should be ready for the regular season.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 3/24, 4:54 PM CT
Though the club hasn't made it official, it appears almost certain that David Ross will begin the year on the DL because of back spasms, this according to MLB.com. "He's closer," Baker said. "The one thing we want to make sure is if he's not going to be ready, you don't want to waste a DL spot." If Ross begins the year on the DL, the team will go with Javier Valentin with Paul Bako serving as the backup. This is a big year for Ross as the team loves his power (he had 17 HR in 311 AB last year), but he needs to improve on his horrible .203 batting average to become a fantasy force.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/22, 2:45 PM CT
David Ross has missed all 18 spring exhibition games for the Reds, and his opening day status is in question, this according to Fox Sports. When asked if Ross would be active for the team's opening game, manager Dusty Baker raised his eyebrows and paused for a long time. "It is going to real tough on him," Baker said. "He hasn't done any hitting or squatting. He has to get his at-bats for his timing and also his timing for catching." Expect Ross to begin the season on the disabled list.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/18, 5:02 PM CT
The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay reported a rumor that the Reds are actively seeking help at catcher, because of growing concerns about David Ross and his ailing back. Ross hasn't played in three weeks due to the ailment, and his .203 batting average last season isn't exactly appetizing, either. Fay also said the club would gladly deal Ryan Freel and may be showcasing him as a utilityman by playing him some in the infield. The trouble is that Freel's owed $7 million over the next two seasons, so there may not be a lot of interest.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 3/14, 8:41 AM CT
David Ross hopes to be able to hit on Friday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He was able to catch Thursday without any problems. Ross is battling back spasms and has yet to take part in an exhibition game this spring.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesFriday 3/7, 8:28 AM CT
David Ross is expected to miss at least another three or four days due to his back spasms, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He's making progress," manager Dusty Baker said. "But it's two steps forward, one step back. They're trying to eliminate and alleviate it altogether. (Back problems) are tough when you're trying to swing and catch." While the Reds say they're just being cautious to keep this from lingering into the regular season, Ross already has missed nine days because of the ailment, so it's clearly become somewhat of a concern.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/1, 8:53 AM CT
David Ross hasn't played in a spring game yet due to a sore back, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We're going to give him another day, just in case, another day before he starts hitting," manager Dusty Baker said. "Back spasms, they let go when they want to and they can grab you when they want to. We want to make sure it subsides." Right now, this sounds like just a minor early spring ailment that shouldn't affect his status for the regular season.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 8/28, 2:35 PM CT
The Reds activated David Ross from the disabled list on Monday, according to the AP. He had been sidelined since August 14 with a concussion. Ross will go back to seeing the majority of the time behind the plate.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 8/14, 3:25 PM CT
As expected, the Reds placed David Ross on the disabled list Tuesday afternoon with a concussion, according to the AP. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, as concussions can often keep players out longer than expected.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesTuesday 8/14, 9:41 AM CT
David Ross will go on the disabled list after colliding with Mike Cameron on Sunday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He complained of a headache and concussion-like symptoms following the collision, although the CT scan came back negative.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/13, 7:40 AM CT
A CT scan on David Ross Sunday evening came back negative. He left the game in the third inning after sustaining concussion-like symptoms and a headache in a collision at the plate, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. His status for this week is unclear, but more should be known after he's examined further on Monday.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/12, 1:49 PM CT
David Ross left Sunday's game in the bottom of the third inning after being injured in a collision at the plate with Padres center fielder Mike Cameron in the top of the third. Ross had a headache and concussion-like symptoms. He was being taken to a local hospital for a CT scan, according to the AP.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/28, 8:00 AM CT
David Ross was able to play on Friday depsite leaving Wednesday's game with a dislocated finger on his right hand. "It didn't hurt when I did it and it didn't hurt after he put it back in, but between then, it hurt a lot," Ross told the Cincinnati Post. "I'd never dislocated anything. I'd prefer not to do it again." His .194 batting average has dislocated Ross from many fantasy rosters, despite his 15 homers, but it looks like his finger injury isn't going to cost him any more action.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/26, 3:55 AM CT
David Ross dislocated the small finger on his right hand while sliding headfirst into second base on a fourth-inning double Wednesday, the AP reports. There was no indication how long he will be sidelined. Javier Valentin took over for him Wednesday. Ross has been providing plenty of pop this year (15 homers), though he's also been hitting below .200 most of the year. Valentin might turn into a reasonable fantasy play if Ross is out for an extended period of time.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 1/15, 4:03 PM CT
David Ross agreed to a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the Reds Monday, according to the AP. The deal includes a team option for 2009. Ross hit 21 homers in just 247 at-bats last year.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/11, 7:19 AM CT
On Wednesday, David Ross received a shot to help him deal with plantar fasciitis in his left heel, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It's not going to get any worse than it was Wednesday," said Ross. "Wednesday I could barely walk on it without a limp. Now, since the shot, I can walk fine . . . We've got a couple of weeks left. If it hurts, it hurts. In a playoff race, trying to get that spot, whatever we've got to do to get in that, that's what I'm going try and do."
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/28, 7:08 AM CT
The Reds three catchers have played nearly the same number of games to date, but David Ross is expected to be the primary catcher the remainder of the season, according to the Cincinnati Post. Jason LaRue will catch Aaron Harang, Javier Valentin will work as a pinch-hitter, and Ross will catch the other starters.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/26, 1:39 PM CT
The Reds activated David Ross from the DL Wednesday, according to the AP. Ross, who was out with a lower abdominal strain, had been on a rehab assignment at Double-A Chattanooga. Ross will go back to sharing catching duties with Javier Valentin and Jason LaRue.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/24, 5:41 PM CT
Manager Jerry Narron hopes that David Ross will be able to return to action in Houston on Wednesday, according to the Reds website. Ross, who is sidelined with a strained lower abdominal muscle, begins a rehab assignment today at Double-A Chattanooga.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/22, 9:50 PM CT
David Ross will play for Double-A Chattanooga on Monday to test his strained abdominal muscles, according to the AP. He's eligible to be reinstated from the DL.
David Ross, C, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/19, 8:14 AM CT
It looks like David Ross might be able to be activated from the disabled list when eligible on Sunday, according to the Cincinnati Post. He's recovering from a lower abdominal strain. "He is throwing pain-free, he is swinging pain-free - it's just a matter of getting him gradually back into running," said trainer Mark Mann. "If he continues to progress the way that he is, this should be something that remedies itself pretty quickly."
