Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 11/6, 11:21 AM CT
The deal sending Mark Teahen to the White Sox in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields is now official, according to MLBTradeRumors.com.

Our View: The deal is finalized on the same day the White Sox officially decline Jermaine Dye's option for 2010. It looks like Teahen will be the team's right fielder next season.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/5, 9:17 AM CT
The New York Daily News is reporting that the Chicago White Sox have acquired Mark Teahen from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Teahen hit .271 with 12 homers and 50 RBI last season.

Our View: Interesting move here for the Sox, as Teahen is coming off a sub-par year by his standards. He is a career .277 hitter with 12 homers and 41 RBI against the Sox in his career, so maybe they just got sick of facing him. He is expected to replace Jermaine Dye as the everyday right fielder for the Sox.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 9/28, 11:24 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Chad Gaudin in tonight's 8-2 loss at New York.

Our View: Teahen snapped a 14-game drought without a homer, and holds a poor .170 average over 47 at-bats this month.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 9/17, 10:31 AM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that Mark Teahen (back spasms) will likely miss Thursday's series finale against the Tigers.

Our View: Teahen went down last Saturday with muscle spasms and was available as an emergency-only player on Wednesday, but the Royals don't look like they're going to push him to get back in the lineup any time soon. Consider him day-to-day.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 9/14, 12:20 PM CT
The Kansas City Star is reporting that the Royals sent Mark Teahen back to KC before Sunday's game to have his ailing back examined by a doctor. Teahen said it was just a precautionary measure and he expects to be back with the team when they being a series with the Tigers on Tuesday.

Our View: This injury sure doesn't seem serious, so expect Teahen to be back in the lineup Tuesday unless something unexpected comes back from the tests. He said it was already feeling better, so nothing to worry about here.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 9/13, 9:18 AM CT
Mark Teahen was a late scratch for Saturday's game with lower back spasms, according to MLB.com. The team has not updated his status for Sunday's game.

Our View: Teahen's back was acting up a bit in the clubhouse yesterday, but it doesn't look like anything serious. No word yet on his availability for Sunday's game, but we will keep you updated on his condition as the day goes on.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 8/30, 12:08 AM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 with his 11th home run on Saturday night, but couldn't prevent the Royals from getting doubled up 8-4 in Seattle.

Our View: The home run was only Teahen's second this month. Despite his multiple position eligibility, and .281 average, Teahen isn't a good option anywhere except AL-only leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/24, 10:42 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 10-6 loss to Cleveland at Kauffman Stadium. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Teahen has multiple hits in four of his last seven games, and is quietly enjoying a hot streak with the Royals.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 8/19, 3:41 PM CT
Mark Teahen hit an eighth inning solo home run to make it 4-2 White Sox on Wednesday afternoon, but that's as close as the Royals would get, as Chicago held on to win by that score.

Our View: Teahen's RBI was just his 40th of the season, though his .281 average and position versatility still make him a solid own in AL-only leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/14, 8:47 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 1-for-3 with a single in tonight's 1-0 loss at Detroit.

Our View: The Royals only mustered three hits in the game, all singles. Teahen is only hitting .200 over 40 at-bats this month, after batting .280 in July.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/1, 5:43 PM CT
Mark Teahen exited Saturday's battle at Tampa Bay with muscle tightness in his lower back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Royals pulled him from the game as a precaution, and Teahen is considered day-to-day.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/30, 9:21 AM CT
Mark Teahen is being eyed by the Cubs as a potential left-handed bat to platoon with Milton Bradley in right field, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: Teahen is actually better against lefties, but is hitting .282 against righties in 2009. This potential move would sap some of his fantasy value, however, as he would be receiving much less playing time than he is in Kansas City.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/24, 10:25 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 1-for-4 with a single in tonight's 2-0 loss to the Rangers at Kauffman Stadium.

Our View: The Royals only had five hits in the shutout loss. Teahen has a hit in three straight games, and is batting .319 in July.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/22, 11:26 PM CT
Mark Teahen was productive in tonight's 9-6 loss to the Angels at Kauffman Stadium, as he went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Teahen is hitting .323 over 65 at-bats this month. He has not hit a homer since June 26, but is still productive enough to employ in deeper fantasy leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 7/21, 1:50 PM CT
The Kansas City Star is reporting that Mark Teahen is going to start seeing more time at first base. The Royals want to improve their infield defense, and Teahen is the best defensive first baseman they have on the roster.

Our View: If it comes down to a choice between Teahen and Billy Butler as your defensive first baseman, that is one of the easiest decisions in the world. Teahen should see some time over there, and Butler will probably DH some going forward while still getting the occasional game at first.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 7/18, 9:56 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-3 with a single and a double in tonight's 4-2 loss to the Rays at Kauffman Stadium.

Our View: Teahen has a six-game hitting streak, and he is batting .353 in July. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while swinging a hot stick.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/10, 9:39 PM CT
Mark Teahen was productive in tonight's 1-0 loss at Boston, as he went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. He also swiped a base.

Our View: He accounted for three of the Royals' four hits tonight. He has three hits in back-to-back games, but has not collected an RBI over his last six.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/2, 9:53 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in tonight's 4-1 loss to division rival Chicago at Kauffman Stadium.

Our View: Teahen has seven hits over his last five games, and raised his season average to .289. He continues to hit well after batting .297 in June.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 6/29, 8:53 AM CT
The San Francisco Giants could be interested in Mark Teahen, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View: A career .270 hitter in 2,219 at-bats, Teahen is not an offensive force, but would certainly be of help to the Giants' stagnant offense. He could play second base, third base or in the outfield. In 2009, he is batting .281 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs and is a decent fantasy option in deeper mixed or AL-only leagues because of his position versatility.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 6/26, 8:53 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off closer Matt Capps in tonight's 5-3 loss at Pittsburgh. He scored a pair of runs as well.

Our View: Teahen ended a 10-game drought without a homer, and now has three in June. He has been performing well overall, as he is riding a six-game hitting streak.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 6/25, 4:11 PM CT
Mark Teahen was productive in Thursday's 5-4 loss at Houston, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Teahen is riding a five-game hitting streak, with two hits in each of his last two games. Keep him active in AL-only leagues while he is performing well.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/16, 10:31 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-0 win over Arizona at Kauffman Stadium. He had a double and a pair of singles.

Our View: Teahen has a four-game hitting streak, and recorded three hits in each of his last two outings. Keep him active in AL-only leagues while he is hot.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 6/6, 3:03 PM CT
Mark Teahen was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in the Royals 6-2 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Our View: Teahen now has seven homers and 20 RBI this season to go along with his .276 average. He's not a great source of production, but has established himself enough to get looks in AL-only leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/27, 4:45 PM CT
Mark Teahen had a nice day at the plate on Wednesday, but the Royals fell to the Tigers 8-3. Teahen went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI.

Our View: Teahen has been a fairly consistent at the dish this season, and he is putting up the numbers everyone expects from him. He is a borderline mixed league player, but he should be owned in AL-only leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 5/19, 10:18 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored, and two RBI in the Royals' 6-5 win over the Indians Tuesday.

Our View: Teahen went back-to-back with Mike Jacobs in the bottom of the ninth inning to start the comeback. Teahen hasn't been amazing this season, but he is a solid contributor who can help out fantasy teams in all leagues. Don't expect him to be a star, be he can have solid games on a regular basis.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/10, 6:36 PM CT
Mark Teahen was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the Royals 4-3 loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Our View: Teahen has not been spectacular this season, but he has been more consistent than ever before. He looks like he could finally be a solid contributor in mixed league formats.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/6, 11:04 PM CT
Mark Teahen continued his strong start to the year as he produced three hits, including his fourth home run of the year, as he knocked in three runs for the Royals in their 9-1 victory over the Mariners.

Our View: Teahen has only 12 RBI on the year, but he has played almost every day and been fairly productive in doing so. He isn't a great beat to continue along with the .300 plus work at the plate, but he should be plenty productive if he picks up 500+ ABs and worthy of rostering in all mixed leagues at the moment.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/2, 3:30 PM CT
Mark Teahen is not in Saturday's lineup against the Twins. He was recently named the Royals player of the month in April, and he has yet to miss a game this year. Alberto Callaspo and Willie Bloomquist will both start against Glen Perkins and the Twins, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Our View: The Royals are in the middle of a 20-game run without a break, and Teahen is getting a well-earned breather.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 4/24, 10:10 PM CT
Mark Teahen hit his second homer of the season on Friday in helping the Royals defeat the Tigers 6-1. Teahen was 1-4 with the homer, a run scored, and two RBI.

Our View: Teahen is now hitting .339 on the year, but his power numbers leave a bit to be desired. This was only his second home run, and he only has seven RBI. His fantasy value is limited until he shows he can drive in runs consistently.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 4/23, 2:29 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 in Thursday's 5-2 loss at Cleveland. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: The Royals only mustered five hits in the game. Teahen extended his hitting streak to four games, with six hits over the span.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 4/17, 11:19 PM CT
Infielder/outfielder Mark Teahen went 5-for-6 with a double, homer, three runs, and one RBI in the Royals 12-3 win over the Rangers on Friday night.

Our View: We're trying to figure out how he had five hits in a 12-run performance and still managed only one RBI. Anyway, we've been waiting for Teahen to swing like he did this spring, and it looks like he may have found that March mojo again.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 4/16, 5:05 PM CT
Following news that Alex Gordon has landed on the DL and will miss roughly two months following hip surgery, utility-man Mark Teahen is expected to be positioned back at third base for the time being.

Our View: Mike Aviles could see some time at third as well, though he'll play primarily shortstop with Teahen at third. Teahen has already played four different positions this season, though it was his expected time at second base that gave him the attention of most fantasy owners. On one hand, Teahen is now guaranteed to play every day, but unfortunately for those that drafted Teahen or picked him up hoping to be able to slot him in at second base after the first week and a half of the season, he's only logged three games there thus far and it looks like it could be at least a bit down the road until he gains eligibility at second.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 4/8, 11:41 PM CT
Mark Teahen hit third and played all nine innings at second base as the Royals beat the White Sox 2-0 on Wednesday. He finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Our View: Teahen is already eligible at first base, third base, and outfield. Now it appears that it is only a matter of time before he picks up second base eligibility which will further boost his fantasy value.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 3/31, 12:04 AM CT
Mark Teahen started and played second base for 10 innings in Monday's 8-8 tie with the Cubs. He went 1-for-5 at the dish with a solo home run and four strikeouts.

Our View: It appears that the Royals will attempt to play the 6-foot-4 Teahen at second base this season, with Alberto Callaspo backing him up. At that position, he will provide some nice power numbers, but may leave you asking for more in terms of average. This spring, he has six home runs while hitting an impressive .468 in 47 at-bats.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 3/23, 6:48 PM CT
Mark Teahen was 3-for-4 with a pair of bombs in a 9-7 loss to the Padres on Monday.

Our View: Teahen has been stellar in exhibition play, but for how much longer will he be in a Royals uniform? The Yankees, Red Sox, and Astros have all expressed interest in him, with the Astros presumably offering him he best opportunity to flourish, in terms of playing time. On the other hand, with the lineups present in both New York and Boston, he may have more run-producing opportunities in either one of those cities.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 3/23, 9:28 AM CT
The Yankees, Astros and Red Sox have garnered interest in Mark Teahen, according to Peter Gammons of ESPN.

Our View: The Yankees need depth at third with Alex Rodriguez (hip surgery) on the shelf until May, and the Astros need help as Aaron Boone (heart surgery) is done for the season. Teahen has been hitting well in spring training, and is worth a look as a flier for AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 3/18, 11:34 PM CT
Mark Teahen was 2-for-4 on Wednesday with a home run. The long ball was his fifth of the spring and he's currently hitting .462.

Our View: Teahen is tearing the cover off the ball this spring and is playing himself onto fantasy draft boards. If he keeps this up he'll be a nice AL-only option at the least.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 3/16, 7:05 PM CT
Mark Teahen hit his third home run in two days as the Royals beat the White Sox 11-7 on Monday. He was 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored, and two RBI.

Our View: Teahen has been hot this spring, but that doesn't necessarily mean this will be the season that he breaks out. The Royals were hoping to play him at second base this season, but that experiment may be through with, as he played in right field today.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 3/15, 10:00 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, a walk, four runs scored, and three RBI in Sunday's 11-3 win over San Francisco. We worked at both right field and second base.

Our View: The Royals would desperately like to turn the 6-foot-3 former top prospect into a second baseman, but the experiment has not yielded many positive results this spring. The good news is that Teahen is not having any trouble at the plate and he now boasts a .400 average this spring.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 3/8, 1:38 PM CT
The Yankees may be interested in Mark Teahen with Alex Rodriguez (torn labrum) expected to miss 6-9 weeks after he undergoes arthroscopic surgery, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: This news is merely speculation, and the Yankees are yet to contact the Royals regarding Teahen.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 2/19, 10:17 AM CT
Mark Teahen is aiming for the No. 1 role at second base with the Royals, according to MLB.com. Manager Trey Hillman said, "Sure. He is a serious candidate along with Willie Bloomquist and Alberto Callaspo and, on the outer fringes of that, is Esteban German. I am certainly not going to count him out at this point."

Our View: Teahen played second base in college, and has enough pop in his bat to target in AL-only leagues if he wins the starting gig out of spring training.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 2/8, 12:57 PM CT
The Royals have avoided salary arbitration with Mark Teahen by signing him to a one-year deal, according to the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Teahen played all three outfield positions in 2008, as well as both corner infield spots, but his fantasy value looks to remain marginal in 2009.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 1/24, 11:10 PM CT
Mark Teahen will try out at second base this spring for the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Teahen started his major league career as a third baseman before shifting to right field, then to left field, so this will make for his fourth new position in four years if the change sticks. If nothing else, he is certainly becoming one of Kansas City's most versatile players on defense.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 1/12, 4:15 PM CT
Mark Teahen isn't allowing rumors to get him down, according to the Royals' official site.

Our View: Teahen's name has come up in trade rumors all offseason, but as teams like the Cubs continue to fill their holes, it looks less and less likely that Teahen will be moved in the near future.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 12/8, 12:02 AM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are not seeking to trade Mark Teahen. GM Dayton Moore said on Sunday, “We’re trying to build a championship team. And to build a championship team, you’ve got to have multiple options with your team. Mark gives us those options. So he’s very valuable to us.”

Our View: Since acquiring Coco Crisp, rumors have circulated around Teahen. The Royals seem to have excess outfielders and a deal to move one of them might make sense.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 11/24, 8:20 AM CT
The Cubs are revisiting a deal for Mark Teahen, according to MLB.com. The Royals are interested in second baseman Mike Fontenot and pitcher Sean Marshall in a potential trade.

Our View: Teahen would provide manager Lou Piniella with a left-handed bat that he covets, and also has the versatility to play left and right field, as well as both corner infield spots. Teahen's RBI total would improve while hitting in a solid Cubs' lineup, and his power numbers would likely increase as well while playing his home games at Wrigley Field.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/18, 5:18 PM CT
The Chicago Cubs signed Ryan Dempster on Tuesday and have said to be interested in Rafael Furcal and Jake Peavy. Now there are reports that Mark Teahen may be on the Cubs radar, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Earlier this off-season there was talk about a trade that would send Teahen to the Indians. The Royals said that it would absolutely not happen. So a trade to the Cubs will probably be a remote possibility.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 10/28, 12:59 PM CT
Royals' GM Dayton Moore commented that the news circulating that Mark Teahen was being considered for a trade to the Indians was merely a rumor, according to MLB.com. Moore said, "That's an absolute lie, an absolute lie. It's a lie."

Our View: It was initially reported that trade talks between the Royals and Indians centered around Teahen coming to Cleveland and moving to his natural position at third base after two seasons in the Royals' outfield, and the Indians sending one of three outfielders: Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco or minor leaguer Trevor Crowe to the Royals.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 10/26, 5:24 PM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals and Indians are discussing a deal involving Mark Teahen. Other players in the deal may include either Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco or minor-leaguer Trevor Crowe.

Our View: Teahen has been mostly disappointing after the Royals had expected bigger things from the third baseman. The Indians have a hole at the hot-corner and would like to fill it sooner rather than later.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 9/13, 9:30 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-4 win over Cleveland in the nightcap of the doubleheader. Both of his knocks were solo homers.

Our View: Teahen has registered two hits in five of his last seven games and collected his first homers of September. He has been quiet for most of the season, but is enjoying a strong final month, and is worth a look in AL-only leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/10, 11:00 PM CT
Mark Teahen was the only Royal to have multiple hits against the Twins Wednesday night. Teahen was 2-for-3, which included his 25th double of the year.

Our View: Teahen has had multi-hit games in three of his last four games and is trying to raise his average from .243. Even though Teahen is starting to hit a little better he is probably not going to be a good option for any type of fantasy team.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/30, 10:32 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 13-3 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park. He hit a double and a solo homer.

Our View: Teahen has homered in back-to-back games and could be headed for a solid final month of the season in the power department.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/23, 1:05 PM CT
Mark Teahen is back at third base while covering for the injured Alex Gordon, according to the KC Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "It’s his old position, but it’s new to him this year. We will see how it goes. He worked on it a little bit in Chicago. He looked pretty natural over there. I’d like to see what T can do at his old position."

Our View: The last time he roamed third base was September 5, 2006. Teahen could see extended action at the hot corner as Gordon may be out for a couple of weeks. As a fantasy performer, Teahen could provide flexibility to use as a corner infielder in deeper AL-only leagues if needed.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/21, 3:16 PM CT
Mark Teahen went 1-for-2 and collected two RBI in Thursday's 10-3 loss to Cleveland. His hit was a double, his 22nd of the season.

Our View: Teahen ended an 0-for-10 skid over his previous three games.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/25, 9:11 AM CT
Mark Teahen was not in Thursday's lineup as he is dealing with soreness in his back and hamstring, according to the KC Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "He’s not feeling too good, so we’ll let that settle down."

Our View: Consider him day-to-day.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/10, 10:06 PM CT
Mark Teahen had two hits including his 10th home run, an inside the park job, for the Royals on Thursday night.

Our View: Teahen has had a down year with an ordinary .255 average and a middling 32 RBI in 326 AB. He is a fine AL only option as he continues to pile up the at-bats, but you must be pretty desperate if you are relying on him in mixed leagues.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 7/6, 9:26 AM CT
Mark Teahen needed a day off on Saturday, and he wasn't in the lineup for the first time since June 14, according to the Kansas City Star. Skipper Trey Hillman said, "There’s not anything glaring with Mark Teahen right now. I just felt like he needed a day mentally as well as physically right now."

Our View: Teahen has only notched one hit in his last 11 at-bats, and is batting .196 over his last 14 games. Hopefully the day off will help his production.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 6/23, 10:29 PM CT
Mark Teahen hit a three-run homer in the Royals' 8-4 win over the Rockies. It's his fifth homer this month.

Our View: Teahen's eight homers are already more than he produced all of last year. Hopefully he'll go back to showing that 20-homer potential that he showed in 2006.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxThursday 6/19, 5:10 PM CT
Mark Teahen missed the cycle by a double and had three RBI in the Royals 4-1 win over the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.

Our View: Teahen is beginning to produce a more consistent power stroke. The home run was only his seventh in 258 at-bats, but he recently hit three home runs in three games when the Royals visited Comerica Park.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 5/27, 11:11 PM CT
The Kansas City Royals have suffered their ninth consecutive loss this evening, falling at home to the Minnesota Twins 4-3. However, first baseman Mark Teahen showed signs of life this evening, hitting 2-for-5 with his seventh double as well as his third home run, all totaling three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Teahen came into the game hoping to improve his struggling .208 batting average through the month of May. He nearly doubled his RBI production for the month in one day.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxMonday 5/26, 7:16 PM CT
Mark Teahen broke his 0-for-19 slump with a single in the fourth inning on Monday. The Royals outfielder is hitting .243 on the season with two home runs, 12 RBI and 18 runs scored.

Our View: The Royals have very little power in their lineup. Teahen hasn't progressed since his double-digit home run season in 2006, and the young bats of Alex Gordon and Billy Butler have combined for six home runs in 51 games this year.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 5/23, 9:07 AM CT
Mark Teahen made a one-day appearance at first base on Wednesday before jogging back out to right field on Thursday. However, manager Trey Hillman might shift Teahan back to first more often. "I like the possibilities of that lineup for run production, and I like the defense," Hillman tells the Kansas City Star. "It gives us a little more speed." With Teahan at first, Joey Gathright starts in right and Billy Butler shifts to DH.

Our View: If a move back to the infield wakes up Teahen's bat, we're all for it. He doesn't have much fantasy value right now, no matter where he lines up.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/18, 3:15 PM CT
Royals outfielder Mark Teahen enjoyed a strong day at the plate in support of Kansas City's 9-3 win over Florida. Teahen went 1-for-4 with walk and his second home run of the season, good for two RBIs as well as a stolen base (his first) and two runs scored on the day.

Our View: Teahen is holding steady at the .268 mark for batting average, a number he has not gotten far from (positively or negatively) since the start of the season.
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxFriday 4/4, 8:10 AM CT
Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a single in Thursday's win over the Tigers. The long ball is a good sign for a hitter who managed only two bombs after the All-Star break in 2007. Teahen wrapped up the series against the Tigers at 4-for-11 with two extra-base hits, two runs, and two RBI.

Mark Teahen was back in the mix for Friday's game, working as the DH, according to the KC Star. "See," he said, "we were telling the truth when we said it was no big deal." Teahan had taken a couple of days off from hitting to rest a sore forearm. It appears that it really was no big deal after all.

Outfielder Mark Teahen skipped batting practice for a second straight day, according to the KC Star. Teahan was held out of Wednesday's work after telling the training staff his sore forearm was still bothering him. “He came in feeling better today,” Hillman said, “but he’s going to take the day off from swinging today and concentrate on defense. We’ll put the bat back in his hands (Friday) and see what happens.” Hillman told the Star that Teahen probably won’t return to the lineup before Saturday.

Mark Teahen couldn't bear to play on Wednesday due to general soreness. “He is a little sore from all of the hitting he’s done,” manager Trey Hillman informs the Kansas City Star. “He’s staying back, taking it easy with his hitting today and work on his defense.”

Mark Teahen's power stroke faded last season, but he points to offseason shoulder surgery as the root cause and believes he'll regain his power in 2008, according to the KC Star. "I feel like I had a successful year outside of the home-run numbers," said Teahen. "I’m looking forward to getting into this year because I know what I need to do to keep my legs healthy. I also was able to lift weights all winter. So I assume it will be like it was (in 2006)." Teahan's right that outside of his homers dropping off from 18 in 393 at-bats in 2006 to seven in 544 at-bats in 2007, he posted decent numbers like a .285 batting average and 78 runs. So we could see a real breakout this year.

The Royals avoided going to arbitration with Mark Teahen by signing him to a one-year contract on Thursday afternoon, according to the KC Star. "It’s good for both sides to avoid that process," Teahen said. "The way I understand it, the team has to go in and convince an arbitrator that you’re not worth what you’re asking for, and you have to prove that you are." Teahan will earn about $2.3 million in 2008.

The Royals are expected to activate Mark Teahen from the disabled list on Monday after he got through a full pre-game workout Sunday. "I was a little tentative on the first round (of batting practice)," he told the KC Star, "but I was fine after that. No problems. I’ve been working up to this for about five days." While he should come off the DL Monday, whether he will play will depend on how his strained left elbow responds to Sunday's workout.

The Royals placed Mark Teahen on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a hyperextended left elbow and forearm strain. He was injured while attempting to make a diving catch Aug. 18 at Oakland. The move is retroactive to Aug. 19.

Our View: Teahen is not expected to be out longer than 15 days.

Mark Teahen could be headed to the DL after aggravating an elbow injury while taking some swings in the batting cage before Tuesday's game. He hasn't played since hyperextending the elbow on Saturday. "It wasn't quite ready today, I guess," Teahen said in the Kansas City Star. "It was the first time I've swung since it happened."

Mark Teahen had hoped to return to action on Monday, but that likely won't happen. "I don’t think he’ll play tonight," manager Buddy Bell said, according to the KC Star. "He might need a couple of days." Teahen hyperextended his left elbow during Saturday's game. With any luck, he'll be back in the mix soon.

Mark Teahen left Saturday's contest in the eighth inning after hyperextending his shoulder while making a diving attempt at a catch. "I’m fine," he told the KC Star. "When I dived for the ball, I just kind of hyper-extended it. I don’t think I was going to play (today) anyway. But it’s just a little thing. Not a big problem." Teahan is expected to sit out Sunday's game but should be available on Monday.

Mark Teahen, who led the Royals with 18 home runs in 2006, hit his sixth home run in the first inning on Monday, ending a drought of 250 at-bats without a homer. Teahen's previous home run was May 29 against Baltimore.

Our View: For someone who was expected to hit 20+ homers, Teahen has been a big disappointment at the plate this year.

Mark Teahen played on Sunday despite a bad back that has been hampering him for awhile. "His balance is off," manager Buddy Bell told the team's official website. "His swing is in a couple of pieces right now. It's not fluid."
Mark Teahen, 3B, Chicago White SoxSunday 7/29, 6:37 AM CT
Mark Teahen has not homered since May 29, a span of 47 games, the AP reports. He led the Royals with 18 home runs last year. "Because of his stroke, there might be years he hits 25 and another year 10," manager Buddy Bell said. "He's got a line drive stroke." Bell should know about modest power numbers - he hit a modest 201 homers in his 18-year career. The game has changed in the two decades since he retired, however, and while we like Teahen a lot as a hitter, the power shortage is a concern.

Mark Teahen has been told to prepare for a move to the outfield, something that would clear a spot at third base for top prospect Alex Gordon, according to the Kansas City Star. Teahen is currently recovering from shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for spring training. He hit .290 with 18 homers and 67 RBI for the Royals in 2006.

Mark Teahen will have shoulder surgery on Friday and miss the rest of the season, according to the AP. The Royals said they had been discussing the possibility with Teahen for more than a month. "The smart thing to do is shut it down now and make sure I'm ready for spring next year," Teahen said. "Hopefully, it's just minimal and I'll be good and ready to go. Worse-case scenario, this makes sure I'm ready for spring training."
