Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 3/11, 3:14 PM CT
Joe Blanton threw four scoreless innings of three-hit ball against the Tigers on Thursday. He allowed three hits and struck out none.

Our View: He lowered his spring ERA to 4.50 in the process. Consider Blanton a later-rounds pick, a staff filler if you will, in all formats.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 1/21, 1:47 PM CT
The Phillies have bought out Joe Blanton's final year of arbitration eligibility and signed him to a three-year, $24 million deal, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.

Our View: Given the recent deals handed out to Joel Pineiro and Jason Marquis, $8 million is not a bad price for a pitcher that went 12-8 with a 4.05 ERA and 163 strikeouts in 2009. At only age 29, as well, the deal will not stretch beyond his prime years.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 1/19, 4:25 PM CT
Joe Blanton is seeking $10.25 million in arbitration, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrtated.

Our View: The Phillies have counter-proposed $7.5 million. While Blanton has pitched very well since coming to the City of Brotherly Love, saying that he's a $10 million pitcher would be an enormous stretch. Expect the Phils to win this one.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 12/7, 4:49 PM CT
The Phillies have made starting pitcher Joe Blanton available this offseason, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.

Our View: Blanton pitched very well for Philadelphia last season, particularly after the All-Star break when he went 6-4 with a 3.62 ERA in 14 starts, but the team wants to free up some money to pursue bullpen help. In 1026.2 career innings, he has a solid 4.21 ERA.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 10/30, 4:06 PM CT
Joe Blanton has been slated to pitch Game 4 of the World Series for Philadelphia, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Skipper Charlie Manuel does not want to use ace Cliff Lee on only three days of rest. Lee will take the hill in Game 5. Blanton has World Series experience, as he pitched for the club in 2008.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 10/19, 11:12 PM CT
Joe Blanton pitched six strong innings for the Phillies on Monday as his team came from behind to beat the Dodgers 5-4. Blanton allowed three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

Our View: Blanton wasn't great tonight, but he was good and he kept his team in the game through six innings. He didn't factor into the decision, but it looks like manager Charlie Manuel made the right move by starting him tonight.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 10/17, 5:53 PM CT
MLB.com reports that right-hander Joe Blanton will take the mound in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Our View: Blanton getting the call means that rookie standout J.A. Happ will remain in the bullpen. The Phils think they can ride Blanton's sinking fastball to a win, but the Dodgers have some potent lefty hitters that punnish right-handed pitching. Stay tuned.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 10/11, 9:31 PM CT
Manager Charlie Manuel hinted that Joe Blanton could possibly be used in a save situation, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We want somebody when we get into the seventh inning, we want to be able to go through the seventh, eighth, ninth inning with Blanton, Madson, Lidge. Might not be in that order.."

Our View: Blanton was the Phillies No. 3 starter for most of the season, but J.A. Happ's emergence has gotten Manuel's confidence. We would be surprised to see him in a one-run save situation, but it remains a possibility.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 10/2, 9:22 PM CT
Joe Blanton was hammered for five earned runs on nine hits over six innings in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park. He had two walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton had his three-game winning streak snapped, and his ERA climbed to 4.05.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 9/27, 5:33 PM CT
Joe Blanton got beat up by the Brewers on Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks over 5.2 innings. He surrendered two home runs, but got the win as the Phillies won 6-5.

Our View: Blanton improved to 12-7, but had his second poor outing in his last four starts. He was coming off a run of 13 scoreless innings, but fizzled against a tough Brewers lineup.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 9/22, 6:41 PM CT
Joe Blanton was masterful against the Marlins on Tuesday. He tossed seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out nine.

Our View: Blanton improved to 11-7 with the 9-3 win on Tuesday and has now rattled off 13 quality starts in his last 14 outings. He's been one of the better second half pitchers in the NL and has somehow flown under the radar.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 9/16, 9:02 PM CT
Joe Blanton pitched six scoreless innings to earn his tenth win of the season on Wednesday night, as the Phillies beat the Nationals 6-1 at home.

Our View: Blanton allowed eight runs in a start against the Nats last Thursday, so it was good to see him pitch effectively. For the second straight season, expect him to be making important starts for the Phillies this October.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 9/10, 10:04 PM CT
Joe Blanton got slaughtered by the Nationals on Tuesday. He lasted just 4.2 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and four walks as the slumping Phillies fell 8-7.

Our View: Blanton's awful Thursday performance snapped an impressive string of 11 quality starts. When the streak started he had an ERA of 5.08. That fell all the way to 3.80, but jumped back up to 4.11 thanks to the Nats bats.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 9/5, 10:56 PM CT
Joe Blanton gave up three earned runs on six hits over six innings in Saturday's 5-4 loss at Houston. He had one walk with five strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton had a decent outing, and was handed a no-decison as the Phillies took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth. He only gave up more than three earned runs one time this season, when was allowed four against Toronto back on June 18.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 8/30, 10:56 PM CT
Joe Blanton was filthy on Sunday against the Braves. His only blemish was a solo home run he allowed to Martin Prado in the first inning of the Phillies eventual 3-2 win.

Our View: Blanton allowed just three hits in his seven innings and improved to 9-6 on the season. He fanned seven Braves, but was a bit sloppy on the corners as he walked four. Still, a fine start from sudden fantasy darling. His ERA is down to 3.77 on the season now.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 8/25, 9:40 PM CT
Joe Blanton did not factor into the decision as the Phillies fell to the Pirates by a score of 6-4. Blanton went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Our View: Blanton was victimized by two long balls tonight, but other than that he was very good. The seven K's were nice for fantasy owners, but it hurts that he couldn't get the win against an opponent like the Pirates.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 8/20, 8:56 PM CT
Joe Blanton scattered three runs and 10 hits over eight innings on Thursday, as the Phillies crushed the Diamondbacks 12-3 in Philadelphia.

Our View: The outing earned Blanton his eighth win, and lowered his ERA to a season-low 3.86.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 8/14, 9:10 PM CT
Joe Blanton turned in his sixth quality start in his last seven outings, but took a no-decision, as the Phillies won 3-2 in Atlanta.

Our View: Since when did Joe Blanton turn into Chris Carpenter? Still, no complaints here. He should keep doing what he's been doing down the stretch.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 8/7, 9:43 PM CT
Joe Blanton got outdueled by Ricky Nolasco on Friday night, and took the loss after surrendering three runs on two home runs in 6.2 innings to the Marlins.

Our View: Blanton has still been one of the better pitchers in the National League lately, going 3-2 with a 1.87 ERA since July 1, and tonight doesn't change that.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 8/1, 11:22 PM CT
Joe Blanton only surrendered two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Saturday's 2-0 loss at San Francisco. He issued no walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton pitched well and it is a shame he is forced to take a loss due to no run support from his teammates. On the positive side, he trimmed his ERA to 4.02 and was 3-0 over four starts in July.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 7/26, 3:54 PM CT
Joe Blanton notched his seventh win of the season on Sunday as the Phillies pounded the Cardinals 9-2. Blanton went eight innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out six.

Our View: Blanton gave the Phillies an excellent outing today, and the offense did plenty of work in support. Blanton has been a quality start machine over the last two months, and he is starting to develop into a very reliable fantasy option.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 7/21, 10:04 PM CT
Joe Blanton pitched seven effective innings of one run ball on Tuesday, but took a no-decision as the Phillies beat the Cubs 4-1 in 13 innings

Our View: After bumbling to a 6.14 ERA through the end of May, Blanton has really turned his season around. He's won just thee times since then, but has lowered his ERA to 4.24 and had six quality starts.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/10, 8:34 PM CT
Joe Blanton was in control from the hill in Friday's 3-2 win over the Pirates at Citizens Bank Park, as he only issued one earned run on four hits over 7.1 innings. He had one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton is pitching great right now, as he only allowed one run over his last two starts. He should be employed in fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Phillies' rotation.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 7/5, 6:02 PM CT
Joe Blanton was in control from the hill in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Mets at Citizens Bank Park, as he only issued four hits over 7.1 scoreless innings. He had three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton now has a winning record at 5-4, and snapped a five-game skid without a win. He is worth using in NL-only leagues for his next start following today's strong performance.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 6/30, 9:42 PM CT
Joe Blanton gave up three earned runs on eight hits over five innings in Tuesday's 5-4 loss at Atlanta. He had three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: He has gone five straight starts without a win, and should remain an unstable fantasy option.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 6/24, 10:25 PM CT
Joe Blanton alloweed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 7-1 loss at Tampa Bay. He issued two walks and racked up 10 strikeouts.

Our View: It was a solid outing for Blanton, but he was unfortunately dealt a loss due to poor run support from his teammates. He falls to 4-4, and is winless over his last four starts. On the positive side, he reached double digits in strikeouts for the second time this season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 6/12, 10:27 PM CT
Joe Blanton only allowed two earned runs on five hits over seven innings in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Sox at Citizens Bank Park. He had two walks and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton pitched well, but was forced to take a no-decision due to poor run support from his teammates. He has not taken a loss over his last six outings, and has three wins over the span.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 6/6, 7:34 PM CT
Joe Blanton pitched an excellent game on Saturday, but he did not factor into the decision as the Phillies fell to the Dodgers 3-2 in 12 innings. Blanton went six innings and allowed one run on five hits while walking one and striking out five.

Our View: Blanton hasn't been great for the most part this year, but every few starts he finds a way to go out and shut down the opposing offense. NL-only owners should give him a look, but his inconsistency is keeping him from having value in mixed leagues.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 6/1, 11:53 PM CT
Joe Blanton allowed three earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 5-3 win at San Diego. He issued one walk and had five strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton has now won three straight starts, with two of those wins coming on the road. He gave up 16 earned runs over five starts in May, but only suffered one loss over that span due to strong run support from the potent Phillies' offense.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 5/26, 10:02 PM CT
Joe Blanton was surprisingly brilliant on Tuesday. He tossed seven shutout innings, allowed just five hits and two walks and struck out 11 in the Phillies' 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Our View: Blanton has been awful this season, so fantasy owners are wondering who was on the mound Tuesday. If you had him in for some reason, pat yourself on the back and crown yourself genius for a day.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 5/21, 3:34 PM CT
Joe Blanton surrendered five earned runs on seven hits over five innings in Thursday's 12-5 win at Cincinnati. He had one walk with four strikeouts.

Our View: It was a poor outing for Blanton, but was handed a win as his teammates provided plenty of offensive support. That marks only his second win over eight starts.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 5/15, 10:47 PM CT
Joe Blanton was sketchy again on Friday in the Phillies 10-6 extra innings win. Blanton went five innings and allowed four runs on five hits while walking six and striking out five.

Our View: Blanton is just not a great pitcher. He has only had one good outing all season, and fantasy owners can't rely on the Phillies' offense to bail him out every night. He may be valid in NL-only leagues, but that's it.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/9, 5:47 PM CT
Joe Blanton got blasted again on Saturday. The Braves touched him for six runs on eight hits and a walk over eight innings and Blanton took is third loss of the season.

Our View: The doughy right-hander has been awful this season. He had had exactly one good start all year and should not be considered for mixed league staffs.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 5/4, 10:07 PM CT
Joe Blanton pitched very well on Monday as the Phillies beat the Cardinals 6-1. Blanton went six innings and allowed one run on four hits while walking two and striking out three.

Our View: This was Blanton's first win of the season, and a good sign for the Phillies. He hasn't been very good so far, but he still has the ability to keep the Phillies in games that he pitches. His fantasy value is limited to NL-only at best, but if the Phillies' offense gets hot he could be a decent source of wins.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 5/4, 11:54 AM CT
Joe Blanton is scheduled to start tonight's game at St. Louis, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Blanton was previously slated to pitch Sunday, but the game was rained out. Blanton only allowed one earned run over seven innings in his last meeting with the Cardinals, which is encouraging since he is yet to earn a win over four starts this season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 4/8, 6:09 PM CT
Joe Blanton got shelled by the Braves on Wednesday. He allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks over just four innings. Somehow, he didn't get the loss.

Our View: Blanton had a lot of hype coming out of Oakland, mostly because people believe that whatever Billy Beane touches turns to gold. But he's not a reliable fantasy starter. A bad ERA, WHIP, K-rate and Win-Loss record does not merit taking up a roster spot.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 4/3, 8:07 PM CT
Joe Blanton put an encouraging end to his spring on Friday against the Rays in a rematch of World Series rivals. He allowed two runs in five innings while striking out three.

Our View: Blanton did allow six hits, but that's to be expected from a guy who pitches to contact and has allowed 1.05 hits per inning over his five-year career.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 3/29, 3:28 PM CT
Joe Blanton has allowed two earned runs on four hits over 6.1 innings in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Red Sox, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton now holds a 2.45 ERA in the spring. He is slated to hold the No. 4 spot in the Phillies' rotation, and he averages 205 innings pitched over his last four campaigns.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 3/19, 3:13 PM CT
Joe Blanton threw six scoreless innings with only one hit allowed in Thursday's 5-1 win over Florida, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: This was a strong outing from Blanton, who is slated to pitch in the middle of the Phillies' rotation. He could be a solid innings-eater, but won't be a solid source for strikeouts.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 3/8, 3:52 PM CT
Joe Blanton allowed one earned run on four hits over four innings of work in Sunday's 7-2 loss to Atlanta, with one walk and no strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton will pitch in the middle of the Phillies' rotation this season, but is not expected to be a solid source for strikeouts or potentially even wins.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 1/20, 4:37 PM CT
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Phillies and pitcher Joe Blanton have agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.475 million. The two parties avoided arbitration by inking the deal.

Our View: A litte change of scenery seems to have done Blanton some good. Just 5-12 with Oakland, Blanton posted a 4-0 record and a 4.20 ERA in 13 starts after being dealt at the deadline. He pitched even better in the postseason, recording a 2-0 record and ERA of 3.00 in three October starts.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 10/26, 10:41 PM CT
Joe Blanton stepped up for Philadelphia in Game 4 of the World Series on Sunday. He struck out seven hitters through six innings and allowed just two earned runs while earning the win. He also hit a solo home run in the effort.

Our View: Blanton was just 9-12 in the regular season with a 4.69 ERA, but the Phillies have won often when Blanton takes the mound. He was excellent on Sunday while putting the Phillies within one win of a championship.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 10/5, 3:43 PM CT
Joe Blanton allowed one run on five hits in six innings to get the win for the Phillies in Game 4 of the NLDS. He didn't allow a walk and struck out seven.

Our View: Blanton rebounded from a terrible span in June and July to post a 3.73 ERA between August and September. He has gotten hot at the right time.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 10/4, 5:51 PM CT
If necessary, Joe Blanton would pitch Game 4 of the NLDS against Milwaukee, according to the AP.

Our View: The Phillies currently hold a 2-0 lead in the series, and could close it out tonight at Miller Park. If the Brewers can manage to win, they would have a good chance to even the series in Game 4 as Blanton held a 4.69 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 33 starts in the regular season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 9/26, 9:17 PM CT
Joe Blanton only allowed one earned run on five hits over six innings in Friday's 8-4 win over the Nationals, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton picked up his ninth win of the season and helped the Phillies inch closer to the AL East title, as their magic number has been reduced to two.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 9/20, 10:37 PM CT
Joe Blanton only issued two earned runs on four hits over five innings in Saturday's close 3-2 win over the Marlins, with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Our View: It was a strong outing for him, and is unbeaten in his last 12 starts. He looks to close out the season on a high note in his final start next week against the Nationals.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 9/20, 10:59 AM CT
Joe Blanton was pitching with biceps tendinitis, which helps explain, in part, why he was unable to get deep into games, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: The tendinitis has since gone away, and Blanton is feeling fine. Either way, he has little to no fantasy value, except maybe in deeper NL-only leagues.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 9/14, 5:14 PM CT
Joe Blanton allowed two runs in the first inning before he settled down to hold the Brewers to three runs over seven innings on Sunday.

Our View: Blanton hasn't really been the pitcher that the Phillies hoped they were picking up when he was brought over from the A's. In 11 starts in the NL, Blanton is just 2-0 with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP with an average of just 5.1 innings per start.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 9/13, 4:05 PM CT
Joe Blanton will start the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Brewers, and Brett Myers will pitch the nightcap, according to the Phillies' official website.

Our View: Blanton is only 7-12 over 30 starts, but has not lost in his last six outings.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 8/8, 10:53 PM CT
Joe Blanton permitted only one hit, a single, as he held the Pirates scoreless for seven marvelous innings on Friday night in a no decision in a game the Phillies finally lost in extra innings.

Our View: When you give up just one hit, aren't you supposed to get the win? Over his last two starts Blanton has allowed just five hits and one run spread out over 14 innings as he has certainly given the Phillies what they were looking for when they made the move to acquire him.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 8/2, 11:32 PM CT
Joe Blanton shut down the Cardinals in Saturday's 2-1 win, as he only issued one earned run on four hits over seven innings, with two walks and five strikeouts. The only score came on a Ryan Ludwick home run.

Our View: He earned his first win as a member of the Phillies, and could be headed for a solid stretch run of the season as he tries to do his part to claim the NL East division title.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 7/27, 6:24 PM CT
Rain interrupted Joe Blanton's second Phillies start and he was able to collect just two innings of work on Sunday against the Braves. However, the two innings he did appear in were not pretty. He gave up two runs, three hits and a walk to a Chipper-less Braves lineup.

Our View: It's just been one and a half starts, but Blanton boasts a 7.87 ERA since joining Philly. We don't like how snug his new ballpark is and it's fair to expect him to struggle with his new NL team. Why? Because Billy Beane dealt him.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 7/22, 10:05 PM CT
In his first Phillies start, Joe Blanton was hit pretty hard but avoided the loss thanks to a ninth inning rally. He gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings. He surrendered two home runs on the evening.

Our View: No doubt the Phillies were hoping for a better National League debut from Blanton. He was 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA before being acquired from Oakland last week.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 7/22, 4:31 PM CT
Joe Blanton will make his Phillies debut tonight against the New York Mets.

Our View: Blanton has not given up a run to the Mets over fifteen innings in his career.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 7/17, 5:49 PM CT
ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting the Phillies have acquired Joe Blanton for three prospects.

Our View: Blanton has had a mediocre year in Oakland going 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA. He was 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA in 2007. His win-rate should increase but Philadelphia's smaller ballpark does not work in his favor.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 7/16, 9:17 AM CT
The Phillies have been taking a look at Oakland's Joe Blanton, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Blanton has had a down year, going 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in the first half.

Our View: Blanton is still likely one of the better starters available despite his down year, and the Phillies are desperate for starting pitching, so this makes sense.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 7/15, 7:15 AM CT
Manager Bob Geren has set the rotation following the All-Star break, according to the SF Chronicle. Joe Blanton will start the first game when play resumes, followed by Greg Smith, Justin Duchscherer, Sean Gallagher, and Dana Eveland.

Our View: Four of the A's starters have surpassed their career highs for major-league innings pitched in a season. Blanton, who has thrown 127 innings, is on pace to throw at least 194 innings for the fourth straight season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 7/9, 11:59 PM CT
Joe Blanton allowed six runs on six hits, walked none and struck out two in a 6-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.

Our View: Blanton suffered his 12th loss of the season against five wins. Coming into the game Blanton was 2-1 over his last three starts, alloweding only one earned run in each of his two wins.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/4, 9:17 PM CT
Joe Blanton was dominant from the hill, as he only allowed one earned run on six hits over seven innings in Friday's 7-1 win over the White Sox at US Cellular Field, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton is 2-1 over his last three starts, and only allowed one earned run in each of his two wins over the span.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 6/29, 6:07 PM CT
Five days after a solid bounce back effort, Joe Blanton returned to his poor ways on Sunday. Blanton served up eight hits and seven runs over four innings against the Giants. The effort included four doubles and a triple. Blanton is now 4-11 on the year.

Our View: Joe is way too solid of a hurler to be 4-11 and own a 4.97 ERA. He's pitching like a guy who is just waiting to be traded. Fantasy owners should bench Joe if they haven't already.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 6/24, 11:58 PM CT
Oakland RHP Joe Blanton got the offensive support and earned a much-needed win over the Phillies this evening as the A's took 'em down, 5-2. Blanton pitched seven innings to allow just one run on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: This is Blanton's first win in five starts, and while he continues to battle to lower walks allowed, he is showing signs of improvement.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 6/24, 2:19 PM CT
Joe Blanton will be making his 17th start of the season tonight when the Athletics host the Phillies in inter-league play, according to MLB.com. Blanton is 3-10 with a 4.81 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 103 innings, with only 47 strikeouts.

Our View: Blanton is coming off his worst outing of the season as he was rocked for eight earned runs over a mere three innings against the D-Backs, and he isn't likely to bounce back against an explosive Phillies' offense that is headlined by Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 6/18, 11:24 PM CT
Oakland RHP Joe Blanton continues to suffer through the dredges of a horrific season, suffering his 10th loss this evening as the A's were trounced 11-1 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Blanton lasted just three innings to give up eight runs (all earned) on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Our View: This gives Blanton four consecutive losses with 20 combined earned runs surrendered through that span.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 6/12, 11:45 PM CT
Joe Blanton lost his ninth game of the season thanks to a grand slam by Hideki Matsui as the Athletics lost 4-1 on Thursday night.

Our View: Blanton only allowed four runs in 6.2 innings, and despite the 3-9 record his ERA is still solid at 4.23. Unfortunately he has given up 111 hits in just 100 innings which has lead to more baserunners than one would like. Blanton is solid, but clearly not a difference maker.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/31, 10:28 PM CT
Joe Blanton surrendered six runs on 10 hits over six innings in Saturday's 8-4 loss to Texas, with one walk and no strikeouts.

Our View: He drops to 3-7 in 2008, with a 4.27 ERA. Six was the most runs he allowed in any of his starts this season, and tonight was also the first time he failed to register any strikeouts.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/31, 11:56 AM CT
The Texas Rangers and Oakland A's are set to set to do battle this evening as RHP Joe Blanton and fellow righty Scott Feldman square off with hopes of getting their seasons on track, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Blanton is a disappointing 3-6 thus far while Feldman has battled to 1-2. Blanton has lost his only start against Texas this season but is 6-3 over his career against the Rangers. Feldman lacks the career numbers worthy of note versus Oakland (1-1, 1.96 ERA) and comes off a rough outing versus Cleveland, giving up five runs on six hits through six innings of work.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 5/25, 7:45 PM CT
Oakland RHP Joe Blanton found his third win of the season as his Athletics put the 6-3 whooping to the Boston Red Sox. Blanton pitched six innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: This is Blanton's first win this month and matches his top single-game strikeout total of the season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 5/20, 12:48 AM CT
Joe Blanton pitched six innings and limited the Rays to four runs on six hits and a single walk on Monday night.

Our View: Blanton continues to be a solid innings eater who on most night gives his team a chance to win even if he doesn't look particularly pretty as he does so.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 5/14, 8:40 PM CT
Joe Blanton allowed two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out four in seven innings of work. Blanton pitched well enough to win, but he was facing C.C. Sabathia who pitched a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over the A's.

Our View: Blanton lost his sixth game of the season against two wins. His 3.69 AL ERA and 1.34 WHIP says he deserves a better record than 2-6 on the season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 5/7, 6:30 PM CT
Joe Blanton limited the Orioles to just two runs in five innings on Wednesday, but he also allowed 10 base runners in a no-decision.

Our View: Blanton continues to be a serviceable starter, albeit it one with limited upside. There is still a chance he could be traded at some point, which might be the only way his value will improve this season.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 4/27, 6:59 PM CT
Joe Blanton was the pitcher of record on Sunday in a 4-2 win over the Mariners and Felix Hernandez. Blanton went seven innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and striking out three.

Our View: Blanton has pitched at least seven innings in his last four starts, but won for the first time since April 11 at Cleveland.
Joe Blanton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 4/16, 11:28 PM CT
Joe Blanton lasted eight innings on Wednesday night against the Mariners allowing 12 hits and four walks to fall to 1-3 on the year.

Our View: Blanton didn't walk a batter on the night, but he also had only two K giving him just 11 in 34 innings on the year, a pathetic 2.91 K/9 mark that would lead one to think that there could be a whole bunch of nights like this in his future.

Joe Blanton wasn't at his best on Friday night but he still picked up his first victory of the season as he allowed five runs in 7.2 innings against the Indians. After three starts Blanton has a 4.15 ERA, but with only nine K in 26 innings, he will need to miss more bats or his performance will likely suffer over the course of the year

Joe Blanton could be headed for an 0-3 start, as he faces the Indians tonight, according to MLB.com. Over his career against Cleveland, Blanton is 1-4 with a 4.30 ERA over six starts. This will be another tough battle for him.

Joe Blanton, who carried a shutout into seventh inning of Sunday's loss to Cleveland, fell to 0-2 on the young season. Cleveland scored twice on just two hits in the seventh and went on to a 2-1 win. Blanton's '08 numbers are not deserving of an 0-2 record. Over his first three starts, Blanton has pitched 18.1 innings, allowed 21 hits, seven earned runs, walked six and struck out eight. His 3.44 ERA deserves better.

Joe Blanton was struggling through a tough spring, but seemingly got himself back on track on Sunday as he only allowed one run on three hits over five innings, with five strikeouts. He will need to keep this up to solidify his role as the A's number two starter behind Harden.

Joe Blanton was lit up on Thursday as he allowed six runs to the Brewers in just two innings. Blanton allowed a HR to Ryan Braun and gave up eight hits in the game. Mama said there would be days like this. Blanton will tweak whatever caused this issue today and improve next time out, but even though this was his first start, he simply can't be happy with the results.

The Reds continue to talk with the Oakland A's about right-hander Joe Blanton, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. There is no breaking news on the talks and Blanton remains with the A's. The report noted that Cleveland left-hander Cliff Lee reportedly is available; as well as free agents like Kyle Lohse and Josh Fogg are still on the market. Baker told the paper that there comes a time when you go with what you've got. What the Reds have isn't good enough, unless two of their starters have career years.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Reds remain the most fervent suitor for A's right-hander Joe Blanton, and apparently are exploring other pitching options as well. Reds GM Wayne Krivsky would not comment specifically on Blanton, but he did not rule out a trade before camp starts. "You're always looking to improve," he said. "That never stops. We'll improve the team any way we can." The Enquirer also speculates that the Dodgers are interested in Blanton, but FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal have shot down those rumors, and LA doesn't appear to need another starter, anyway.

Joe Blanton avoided arbitration with the A's on Friday by agreeing to a $3.7 million contract, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Blanton has been the subject of trade talks over the last couple of weeks, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he was dealt before the start of the spring.
