Our View: Loewen's situation is similar to that of Rick Ankiel of the St. Louis Cardinals. Ankiel was called up in 2007 by the Cardinals, and provided some power down the stretch. In 2008, he was the Cardinals' primary center fielder when healthy, hitting 25 home runs in 120 games.

"I'm encouraged that the bone scan came back clear, that's good," said Trembley. "They put a screw in the kid's elbow... that's more of a rod than a screw... I wouldn't expect that he's going to pitch when his 15-day DL is done. It's going to be longer than the 15 days." | Adam Loewen is expected to be sidelined at least eight weeks with a stress fracture in his pitching elbow, according to the AP. An MRI exam revealed the injury. "My arm felt great in spring training," Loewen said. "Over the last couple of weeks it's been getting a little worse and a little worse. It wasn't huge pain for me, so I think in looking at it that way, recovery time won't be a huge problem. I think it will heal up fine." Loewen was placed on the disabled list, and Brian Burress is expected to start in place of the young lefty on Saturday. |
