Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 9/30, 10:18 PM CT
Ryan Doumit homered and drove in four runs on Wednesday night, helping the Pirates to an 8-2 victory and sweep of a double-header at Wrigley Field.

Our View: He also went 4-for-4. The four-hit night was his first of the season, while the four-RBI game was his first since April 11.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 9/19, 9:54 AM CT
Pitrtsburgh Pirates beat writer Dejan Kovacevic is reporting on Twitter that the team will start Ryan Doumit in right field on Saturday. Doumit is the team's starting catcher.

Our View: Doumit has played the outfield before, but not since 2007.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 9/13, 4:44 PM CT
The struggling Ryan Doumit went 2-for-4 with a solo home run that was the difference in the Pirates 2-1 win over the Astros on Sunday.

Our View: Doumit has just nine homers in a disappointing, injury-filled season. Sunday's blast was his first since August 25th, but he appears to be heating up, hitting .387 in September.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 9/9, 10:06 AM CT
According to Jenifer Langosch on Twitter, catcher Ryan Doumit is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a stiff back.

Our View: The injury is not considered serious and Doumit should be fine with an extra day of rest. Jason Jaramillo gets the start behind the plate for the third time in four games.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 8/30, 11:06 AM CT
Ryan Doumit will return to the lineup on Sunday after being benched for Saturday's game. Doumit will catch and hit fourth for the Pirates.

Our View: The Pirates still aren't giving a reason for the benching, but apparently a game and a half was enough. Expect Doumit to stay in the lineup for the rest of the season, as the benching shouldn't be a regular thing.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 8/29, 4:39 PM CT
Ryan Doumit is not in the Pirates lineup in Milwaukee on Saturday night after being benched in the fifth inning on Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Doumit was removed from Friday's game without explanation by manager John Russell. Russell did say that Doumit was not hurt. Doumit has voiced his frustration with the Pirates' organization often this season and their continued trading of veteran players.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 8/22, 10:10 PM CT
Ryan Doumit broke out of his lump in a big way on Saturday in the Pirates' 12-2 win over the Reds. Doumit went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI.

Our View: This has been a lost season for Doumit, as he spent much of the first half on the DL and has struggled most of the second half. He showed tonight what he is capable of, but until he starts producing consistently he will remain a very borderline fantasy catcher.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 8/18, 6:19 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Ryan Doumit has been dropped from the cleanup spot and will hit fifth in Tuesday's game.

Our View: Doumit has been struggling mightily lately and Manager John Russell wants him to balance out his swing and stop pressing at the plate. He thinks the demotion will take some of the pressure off. Andy LaRoche will hit in the cleanup spot until further notice.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 8/14, 11:52 AM CT
According to Dean Kovacevic on Twitter, Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit is not in Friday's lineup due to tightness in his right wrist.

Our View: Doumit's injury isn't considered serious and the Buccos say he'll be in Saturday's lineup, but wrist injuries are detrimental and the slugging catcher just had surgery on his. Don't be surprised if the Pirates play it safe with him and he misses an additional day. Keep him on your bench until further notice.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 7/29, 9:32 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that catcher Ryan Doumit will sit out Wednesday's contest.

Our View: Doumit is fine, but the Buccos' backstop hasn't had a day off since returning from the DL on July 10th. The team is just looking to give him some much needed time off. Since being activated he's hitting .250 with three homers ans 11 RBI.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 7/27, 11:41 PM CT
Ryan Doumit was productive in tonight's 4-2 loss at San Francisco, as he went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI.

Our View: Doumit has a hit in six straight games, and is swinging the stick better after batting a dismal .244 in June.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 7/22, 2:57 PM CT
Ryan Doumit cracked two home runs and drove in three in the Pirates come-from-behind 8-7 win over the Brewers on Wednesday.

Our View: Doumit was hitting just .188 with five RBI since returning from injury before Wednesday's game. The two homers today were nice, but Doumit has little time left to save his dismal fantasy season. After being one of the league's most surprising breakout players last season, he's hitting .235 in just 21 games during this year's injury-plagued campaign.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 7/19, 3:19 PM CT
Ryan Doumit knocked in two runs on Sunday, good for his first multi-RBI game since coming off of the disabled list on July 10, but it wasn't enough as Pittsburgh lost 4-3 to San Francisco at home.

Our View: Doumit doesn't appear to have lost much offensively while on the disabled list, and should be owned in every format.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 7/18, 9:10 PM CT
Ryan Doumit went 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI in tonight's close 2-0 win over the Giants at PNC Park.

Our View: Doumit has two RBI on three hits this month. He was only hitting .206 over 63 at-bats heading into tonight's game, and hopefully he will heat up down the stretch for fantasy owners.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 7/10, 4:42 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Ryan Doumit has been activated from the DL following his recovery from right wrist surgery, according to TSN. Catcher Robinzon Diaz was sent down to the minors to make room on the roster.

Our View: Doumit will return to his role as the Pirates' No. 1 catcher. He is among the top fantasy catchers when healthy.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 7/10, 9:34 AM CT
Ryan Doumit could be done rehabilitating and ready to rejoin the Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Doumit went 2-for-4 for Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, and appears fully recovered from the right wrist injury that has kept him out for the better part of two months. Even if the Bucs hold off an activating him until after the All-Star break, you should be making space for him on your roster. If his owner dropped him at the time of his injury, he is definitely worth taking a flier on because of his potential to supply a lot of offense.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 7/7, 11:06 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Pirates' catcher Ryan Doumit played seven innings behind the plate on Monday for Triple-A Indianapolis. It was the first time he has played more than five innings in a game since he began his rehab assignment. Doumit is still recovering from surgery on his right wrist.

Our View: Doumit went 0-for-3 at the plate with two strikeouts, but it is still encouraging the he caught seven innings. There isn't a specific target date set for his return to the team, as the Pirates believe it will be after the All-Star break before he is available.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 7/6, 8:49 AM CT
Ryan Doumit, who had been rehabbing with the Pirates rookie league team, is now playing an undetermined number of games with Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The Pirates say when he returns will be based more on how he looks than the numbers he puts up. They say he is most likely to return after the All-Star break, though Doumit himself is aiming for when the Pirates head to Philadelphia next weekend. Look for the team to win this argument, but you should keep an eye on him for further updates, regardless.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 6/27, 5:57 PM CT
Ryan Doumit, who's been on the DL since April 20 with a broken wrist, is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis next Saturday, according to the Johnstown Tribune Democrat.

Our View: There's no telling exactly how long Doumit will stay in Indianapolis, although the best bet has him returning to Pittsburgh sometime soon after the All-Star break. He has the potential to be a top-five hitting catcher, and thus he's probably worth adding if he happens to be floating around in your league's free agent pool.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 6/14, 1:24 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that catcher Ryan Doumit has been cleared to resume baseball activities. Doumit will ease his way back from wrist surgery. He will do a batting and throwing program for a few weeks before he begins to consider a rehab assignment.

Our View: It sounds as if it could be another month before the catcher rejoins the Bucs. If he's on waivers in your league, and you are fortunate to have an open DL spot, it may be a shrewd move to pick him up as he should be a top 10 catcher once he returns.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 5/28, 1:53 PM CT
Ryan Doumit has been given the green light to resume rehab after his CT scan revealed that his surgically-repaired right wrist is healing well, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He will sport a cast for a while, but can start throwing again shortly. He could be ready to return to Pittsburgh in mid-June.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 5/25, 9:17 AM CT
Ryan Doumit is slated for a CT scan on his surgically repaired right wrist Thursday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He could start baseball-type rehab if the tiny fracture in his thumb has healed sufficiently. That would put Doumit on target to return to the Pirates by mid-June.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 5/5, 10:27 AM CT
Ryan Doumit will have stitches in his right wrist removed tomorrow and will then be free to perform many additional exercises, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Doumit is still at least seven weeks away from a return. We'll continue to track his progress.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 4/23, 5:36 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Ryan Doumit had successful surgery on his right wrist Thursday, according to MLB.com. There were no complications and his stint on the DL is still targeted at 8-10 weeks.

Our View: Doumit has requested to travel with the team throughout his injury and rehab his wrist on the road. That's good news for a young upstart Pittsburgh team that needs leadership. Looks like Doumit is stepping up.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 4/23, 8:29 AM CT
Ryan Doumit is scheduled to undergo wrist surgery today at Allegheny General Hospital, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Barring a setback in his recovery, Doumit could return to the diamond in early-July. Jason Jaramillo will serve as the Pirates' No. 1 catches while Doumit is on the shelf.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 4/21, 3:13 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Ryan Doumit will be placed on the DL and will miss 8-10 weeks after discovering he has a minimially displaced fracture of the scaphoid bone. The Pirates have promoted Robinzon Diaz from Triple-A Indianaplolis to fill their roster.

Our View: This is much worse than originally thought for Doumit, and terrible news for the Pirates and for Doumit owners. He will have surgery on Thursday and will have pins inserted, so he will be out for a good while. Find another catcher if Doumit is your man, because even after he returns he may not hit for the power he is used to.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 4/21, 8:48 AM CT
The Beaver County Times is reporting that Ryan Doumit could miss the entire series against the Marlins with his right wrist injury.

Our View: The injury isn't serious, but it is enough to keep Doumit out of the lineup. Given his history of getting injured, the Pirates should be relatively happy this is just minor. Keep him out until at least Thursday, possibly later.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 4/20, 8:06 PM CT
Ryan Doumit is listed as day-to-day with a right wrist injury, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: X-rays on Doumit's wrist were negative, and this is not expected to be anything that will sideline Doumit for more than a few days. He has, however, been injury-prone throughout his career, so there is a bit of reason to be concerned. Jason Jaramillo will start at catcher in Doumit's absence.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 4/20, 3:45 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Ryan Doumit will have an MRI on his right wrist this afternoon. The severity of the injury is currently unknown. Doumit injured the wrist during a swing in his second at-bat on Sunday. He will be out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

Our View: This sounds like bad news for Doumit, who has proven to be a viable option at the catching position. Wrist injuries are never good for guys who hit for power, but stay posted for updates.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 4/18, 2:27 PM CT

Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 4/17, 2:30 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Ryan Doumit will be back in the Pirates' lineup of Friday night against Atlanta after receiving a day off on Thursday.

Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 4/11, 3:12 PM CT
Ryan Doumit had three hits, including a grand slam, in the Pirates' 10-2 win over Cincinnati Saturday.

Our View: Good news for Pirates fans, as both Doumit and Nate McLouth, who had been slumping, had big days.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 4/10, 9:39 AM CT
Pirates manager John Russell plans to give Ryan Doumit the day off on Saturday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Doumit has started off slow this season, currently 2-for-16 at the plate, but remains a top-six or seven option at catcher. Look for an option to fill Doumit's place on Saturday if your league institutes daily lineup changes, but feel fine about having Doumit as your catcher going forward.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 3/29, 5:17 PM CT
Ryan Doumit hit his third home run of the spring on Sunday against the Yankees. He finished Pittsburgh's loss 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: The 27-year-old catcher broke out last season, bashing 15 home runs for 69 RBI and a .318 average. Besides his obvious power, Doumit is a valuable fantasy commodity because of his extra-base hit ability, as evidence by his 34 doubles in 2008.

Ryan Doumit was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Reds. He raised his average to .289 this spring.

Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 3/2, 4:17 PM CT
Ryan Doumit drove in a run Monday in the Pirates 2-1 win over the Reds, but failed to record a hit. He is hitting .111 this spring.

Our View: A late fantasy steal last year and relative unknown, Doumit has stepped into the spotlight in 2009 and will need to pick up the pace if the Pirates are going to have any chance of being an offensive threat.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 12/21, 4:42 PM CT
The Pirates and catcher Ryan Doumit have agreed on a three-year deal, ESPN.com reports. Financial terms are not known. The contract includes a club option for a fourth season.

Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit has had a difficult time at the plate, and is hitting just .160 (4-for-25) since September 5, and has not homered since August 20, according to the Allegheny Times.

Our View: Doumit has been a great addition to fantasy squads this season, with a batting average well over .300 and 13 home runs with 58 RBI. He is scuffling a bit right now, but not enough to take him out of lineups.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 9/13, 10:17 PM CT

Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 9/11, 9:48 PM CT
Ryan Doumit went 0-for-3 on Thursday night as the Pirates were held to just three hits by the Astros Roy Oswalt.

Our View: Doumit has struggled a bit of late with just two hits in his last 18 AB (.111). However, he is still hitting .319 on the year and has hit .290 over his last 124 AB, so it's not like he is hurting anyone's batting average though he does have only one long ball in 34 outings so it would be nice if he found the power stroke again.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 9/3, 9:54 PM CT
Ryan Doumit went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI helping the Pirates top the Reds 6-5.

Our View: Doumit continues to be one of the Pirates only bright spots in yet another long season.

Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 7/17, 8:21 AM CT
Ryan Doumit, among several other Pirates' players, would like the team to remain intact, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Doumit said, "From a player's standpoint, it would be a shame to see anybody go. We know the names that are out there, Xavier Nady and Jason Bay, and those guys are an integral part of clubhouse and the chemistry we have. Dude, to lose one of those guys would be, in my mind, a significant blow. They're big pieces of the gel that keeps this team together."

Our View: The trading deadline is July 31, and the Pirates are likely to deal key pieces off the roster. The Pirates are 44-50 at the All-Star break, and are 12.5 games back in the NL Central.

"With the symptoms, all it's going to take is one real good foul tip and it will set him back to where he was again, or even worse," manager John Russell said. "We just want to make sure that we get this thing completely under control. We don't want to mess around with this."

Our View: Raul Chavez will start for the Pirates behind the dish with Doug Mientkiewicz serving as the backup. With both Doumit and Xavier Nady out of action, you should feel comfortable starting Blue Jays pitchers this weekend.

There was plenty of offense in tonight's 7-6 win for the Nationals over the Pirates, though Pittsburgh catcher Ryan Doumit was in a world of his own at the plate. Doumit went 4-for-4 at the dish with two doubles and two home runs on the night, totaling three RBIs and three runs scored.

Our View: Doumit has struggled to earn consistent playing time and had just one hit in June coming in. This may garner a bit more favor looking forward.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 6/6, 11:38 PM CT
Ryan Doumit was 0-for-4 at the plate Friday in his first game back from a fractured thumb. Doumit hadn't played since May 14th.

Our View: Doumit may have to shake some rust off, but with Ronny Paulino now at Triple-A, he'll be getting the bulk of the starts behind the plate.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 6/6, 12:18 AM CT
Ryan Doumit was activated from the DL late Thursday night, according to the Miami Herald. He had been out since May 14th with a fractured left thumb.

Our View: Ronny Paulino was demoted to Triple-A to provide Doumit room on the roster. Paulino was hitting just .218 with two home runs as he failed miserably to take advantage of his chance to prove his worth. Raul Chavez will likely serve as Doumit's backup for the foreseeable future.

Ryan Doumit's rehab assignment has begun on Tuesday night (with Double-A Altoona), according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He will play all three games of Altoona's series against New Britain, and will be evaluated after that. On Tuesday, he singled in his only at-bat as a DH. He is expected to catch tonight.

Our View: If all goes favorably, he could rejoin the Pirates on Friday. He was enjoying a solid season prior to fracturing his left thumb, as he held a .350 average over 103 at-bats, with five homers and 15 RBI.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 6/2, 9:23 AM CT
Ryan Doumit caught a full bullpen session Sunday and also began hitting off a tee, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. After the session Doumit stated, "It felt great. I feel like I am days away, really. I felt game-ready catching today. There was one pitch I felt that jammed it a little bit but the next pitch, the pain went away. I'm hoping to take one more session tomorrow and then see what happens."

Our View: Doumit has been on the shelf since May 13 with a fracture in his left thumb, but seemingly appears to be close to returning. Doumit said he feels only about 80% batting right-handed, which would be the side of the plate where the swing would put more stress on his ailing thumb, but he wouldn't hesitate to bat right-handed if needed.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 6/1, 1:03 PM CT
Ryan Doumit tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he is "days away" from returning to the lineup. He fractured the tip of his left thumb on May 13. Doumit caught Zach Duke's bullpen session on Sunday morning and was pleased. "There was one ball that kind of jammed me a little bit," Doumit explains. "But the next pitch, the pain went away." The Pirates are thinking about sending him on a short rehab assignment.

Our View: Doumit has more problems catching than hitting, so we expect his bat to be fine when he returns. Given that the team hasn't set a date, it's risky for fantasy owners to plug in Doumit for the week ahead.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 5/30, 10:55 AM CT
Ryan Doumit's first major test of his fractured left thumb will come tomorrow afternoon in St. Louis, this according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Pirates catcher/outfielder will catch a bullpen session with full-speed fastballs. "I'm ready," he said.

Our View: Doumit has been catching soft tosses and taking full batting practice for five days according to the report. If he has two or three successful catching sessions, he could return sometime next week.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 5/24, 11:41 AM CT
Ryan Doumit is eligible to return to action next Thursday, and if you ask him he will be ready to return from his broken finger by then, according to the Allegheny Times. “I really feel like I’ll be ready to go then, based on how I feel and the way the doctor tells me the thumb is healing,” Doumit said.

Our View: Doumit very well could be activated next week, much sooner than initially anticipated, though he may still be somewhat limited. Ronny Paulino owners should be concerned.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 5/22, 7:17 PM CT
Ryan Doumit, out with a fractured thumb, appears to be on track to return to the Pirates lineup much sooner than the previous estimate of four weeks, according to MLB.com. "We'll see what we get from that report," manager John Russell said of Doumit's Thursday meeting with a hand specialist. "It would be nice if that injury is a little different than we thought and we can get him back sooner."

Our View: Doumit has been saying that he will be back sooner than anyone thought, and it sure seems like that might indeed happen. Ronny Paulino has failed to impress, so look for Doumit to slide right back into the starting role once healthy.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 5/14, 7:55 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, Ryan Doumit is slated to miss at least four weeks as he nurses a fractured left thumb, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Today's examination by Dr. Mark Baratz in Pittsburgh suggests the Pirates catcher should refrain from any baseball activities for at least four weeks, and the team feels he is likely to miss significantly more time than that. "We'll give it four weeks, and then we'll see where we're at," said manager John Russell. To fill the void left by moving Doumit to the 15-day disabled list, the Pirates have recalled catcher Raul Chavez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ryan Doumit is headed to the disabled list after fracturing the tip of his left thumb on Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review confirms. The Pirates aren't sure how long he will be out, but they need to call up another catcher.

Our View: Ronny Paulino stands to step back into an everyday job while Doumit is out. The Pirates will hopefully issue a timetable for Ryan's return on Wednesday.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 5/13, 8:42 PM CT
Ryan Doumit injured the thumb on his left hand while receiving a pitch behind the plate and had to be removed from the game, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Ronny Paulino took over.

Our View: There is no word yet on the severity of the injury which comes at an awful time considering that Doumit is hitting .350 on the year.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 5/1, 8:30 PM CT
Ryan Doumit hit his fifth home run of the season on Thursday as he continues to make an excellent play at the catchers position.

Our View: Doumit is batting an amazing .351 over his first 77 AB which includes 13 hits in his last eight starts.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 4/22, 9:46 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Pirates put an end to their six-game losing streak with a hard-fought win over the Florida Marlins, 2-3, this evening, an effort led by the middle of the batting order. Catcher Ryan Doumit went 2-for-4 at the plate with his second double of the year, posting one RBI and one run scored. He was followed by RF Xavier Nady, hitting 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Our View: Both batters drove in those runs with two outs on the board in the sixth inning, giving the Pirates just enough for the victory.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 4/20, 9:39 PM CT
Overshadowed by a three game sweep, and 28 runs allowed, Ryan Doumit's two solo homers for Pittsburgh almost went unnoticed as the Cubs bounced the Pirates like a Single-A team this weekend.

Our View: Without sounding to harsh, that is exactly how the 7-11 Bucs played in Chicago this weekend. Doumit, the most versatile Pirate, has been doing his part. The catcher/outfielder is hitting .320 this April with six RBI, three home runs and nine runs scored.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 4/19, 4:06 PM CT
Pittsburgh catcher Ryan Doumit struggled through tough times at the plate today in the Pirates 1-13 drumming from the Chicago Cubs. Doumit went 0-for-3, striking out in all three at-bats on the day.

Our View: Doumit started hot but has since cooled, and today's performance has to be graded as the low point of young season thus far.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 4/7, 6:01 PM CT
Ryan Doumit picked up another start at catcher for the Pirates on Monday and he produced two hits and and RBI in the game. Doumit is now batting .458 in 24 AB to open the year, and it's starting to look like he just might be in line to at least pick up 300 AB for the first time of his career with the potential for a whole lot more in Pittsburgh.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 4/4, 9:29 PM CT
Ryan Doumit is making it hard for the Pirates to sit him. Doumit got another start Friday and responded with three hits, including his first homer of the year. He's batting .533 in 15 at-bats this year and is starting to distance himself from Ronny Paulino in the battle for playing time behind the plate.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 4/1, 12:45 PM CT
Ryan Doumit was awarded the start at catcher over Ronny Paulino on opening day, and he took advantage as he went 3-for-7, while scoring a run. He will battle Paulino for playing time throughout the season, and he showed the team that he can hold his own as a starter.
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 3/31, 5:04 PM CT
Ryan Doumit will be the Pirates' starting catcher in tonight's season-opener against the Atlanta Braves, this according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "It's an honor," Doumit said. "It certainly wasn't expected on my part. But it's good to see that some hard work paid off." Doumit began spring training as a just a potential backup to incumbent starter Ronny Paulino. But Doumit's offensive potential and defensive development impressed management.

With the weight of expectations not met and the lingering fears of injury sitting on his shoulder, catcher Ryan Doumit is doing what he can to start '08 on a positive note. Doumit went 2-for-3 with a home run in Pittsburgh's 4-8 loss to Minnesota in spring training today. Doumit is going to battle with Ronny Paulino for the starting job and the early indication is that the lean is towards Paulino. Today's game could help change minds.

Doumit, who had been out with a wrist injury, suffered a high-ankle sprain Saturday and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, according to the AP. Ryan Doumit went 4-for-4 Sunday with a home run and is now 6-for-11 since rejoining the Pirates, the AP reports. However, manager Jim Tracy wouldn't commit to starting him Monday against Cubs lefty Rich Hill, if only because Doumit has more power batting left-handed than right-handed.
