Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 8/12, 9:53 PM CT
Zach Miner got the spot start on Wednesday and was greeted with five runs in 4.2 innings courtesy of the Boston Red Sox. He allowed seven hits and two walks and was saddled with the loss as the Tigers fell 8-2.

Our View: This is the first time Minor has started since May 2nd, and he was clearly affected by his lack of stamina. He's 5-3 on the season, but most of his decisions have come from his bullpen appearances.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 8/12, 4:21 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that Zach Miner will get the start against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Our View: Miner likely won't last long on Wednesday as he pitched two innings on Monday and warmed up in Tuesday's game. The Tigers will probably need to lean on their bullpen quite a bit, making Miner a risky fantasy start. He replaces Armando Galarraga who is out with a sore throat.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersThursday 5/7, 5:17 PM CT
The Detroit Free Press reports that Zach Miner will be moved back to the bullpen to make room for Dontrelle Willis in the Tigers rotation.

Our View: Miner was mediocre through four starts this season. He was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA but battled control problems that led to 11 walks in 20 innings and a 1.75 WHIP. He figures to be a long relief option out of the pen.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 5/2, 6:17 PM CT
Zach Miner was rocked for five earned runs on six hits over five innings in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Indians at Comerica Park. He had five strikeouts with three walks.

Our View: The Tigers rallied to score three runs in the eighth inning, and Miner was dealt a no-decision rather than a loss. Both of his wins this season have been claimed on the road.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 4/14, 1:28 PM CT
According to the Detroit Free Press, Zach Miner has been moved to the bullpen following his start in Monday's game. Miner has given up 15 hits and nine runs in his two starts this season.

Our View: This move is being made because the Tigers will not need a fifth starter until April 25 in Kansas City, however it remains to be see if Miner will be that fifth starter when that day rolls around. Check for updates on Miner's status.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersMonday 4/13, 3:40 PM CT
Zach Miner was rocked for eight earned runs on nine hits over a mere 3.1 innings of work in Monday's 10-6 loss to the White Sox at home. He issued three walks with one strikeout, and gave up three home runs.

Our View: Miner only allowed one earned run in his season debut against the Blue Jays at pitcher friendly Rogers Centre, but gravely struggled in his first home outing at hitter-friendly Comerica Park. Miner drops to 2-6 over over 13 career games (five starts) against AL Central rival Chicago.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersMonday 4/13, 11:42 AM CT
Zach Miner will be aiming for his second win of the season when he takes the hill against the division rival White Sox at Comerica Park today.

Our View: Miner only allowed one earned run in his season debut, but he is 2-5 with a 5.29 ERA over 13 career games (four starts) against Chicago. Expectations should be lowered for today, especially since the Sox are coming off back-to-wins over Minnesota.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersFriday 4/3, 7:49 PM CT
Zach Miner wasn't exactly efficient in his final spring start on Friday in Atlanta. He allowed three runs on four hits while striking out two and walking four.

Our View: Miner, who recently landed a spot in the Tigers' rotation, needed 85 pitches to get through just four and two-thirds innings. It's starts like this that make him barely worthy of consideration in AL-only leagues.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 4/1, 9:51 AM CT
MLive.com reports that Zach Miner has won a spot in the Tigers opening day rotation. Miner has a 5.87 ERA through 23 innnings this spring.

Our View: Miner bounced between the rotation and the bullpen in 2008, but he was fairly successful with a 4.27 ERA and an 8-5 record. However, he walks too many hitters and does not register enough strikeouts to be considered for fantasy purposes.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 3/10, 4:49 PM CT
Zach Miner took the loss on Tuesday after allowing seven hits and three runs in three innings of work against St. Louis.

Our View: Miner's role is still not set but he should make the Tigers and be a factor this season. His fantasy value only sits in much deeper AL-only leagues.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersThursday 2/19, 2:17 PM CT
Zach Miner only needed to miss one day of camp with a stomach ailment, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: Skipper Jim Leyland is not sure if Miner should be a starter or reliever, but he is expected to make the Tigers' opening day roster either way. The 26-year-old hurler is worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersMonday 2/16, 10:52 AM CT
Manager Jim Leyland is not sure if Zach Miner is best-suited to be a starter or reliever, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: Miner projects to work in the bullpen this season, but should make the opening day roster either way.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersMonday 9/22, 9:59 PM CT
Zach Miner fell to 8-5 on the year after allowing four runs over six innings to the Royals. Miner allowed six hits and four walks while striking out only two batters.

Our View: Miner is now winless in four starts during which time he has posted a 7.22 ERA. He remains nothing more than a soft tossing control artist that will struggle when he isn't able to control both sides of the plate.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersFriday 8/29, 9:20 PM CT
Zach Miner was in control in Friday's 6-3 win over the Royals at Comerica Park as he only issued one earned run on six hits over six innings, with one walk and two strikeouts. The only run given up came on a Mark Teahen homer.

Our View: Miner is 3-0 over his last five starts, and has impressively allowed one or less earned runs four times over the span. He should remain active in lineups heading into September.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 8/23, 9:51 PM CT
Zach Miner befuddled the Royals Saturday, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits and a walk.

Our View: Miner has been surprisingly good since moving into the rotation, holding a 2.87 ERA in seven starts.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 8/12, 9:59 PM CT
The Tigers had a good thing going but failed to hold on, falling 6-4 on late hitting against the Blue Jays. For Detroit, the work of starter Zach Miner went to waste along the way, going six innings to allow just one run on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: Miner left the mound with no decision as his ERA drops to 3.41. He has earned three wins over his last five starts with five combined walks and 17 strikeouts.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSunday 7/27, 11:04 PM CT
Zach Miner allowed two runs and five hits in six innings to earn his first win against Chicago after losing five decisions. It was just his second start of the season.

Our View: Miner may land back in the bullpen but for now it looks like he will be in the rotation. The Tigers will make a run in the AL Central which makes Miner worth a look if you are seeking wins.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersMonday 7/21, 12:59 PM CT
Zach Miner will start Monday against the Royals, but the team still thinks his future rests in the bullpen, according to the Detroit News. Manager Jim Leyland likes him for the sixth or seventh inning as a reliever, and his status could depend on tonight's outing in the rotation. Leyland said, "He has two good pitches, and a third one that's OK. If the third one (his change-up) gets better, he can be a starter. But I thought he could be a good reliever for us, and I still think he could be. I like having a guy in the bullpen with a good sinker. But we'll see how he does as a starter."

Our View: Miner is worth acquiring in larger mixed-leagues following his promotion to the rotation, but may not hold much value down the stretch, as he could land back in the bullpen.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSunday 7/20, 9:36 AM CT
Zach Miner has been officially named the fifth starter of the Tigers' rotation, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: He will make his first start on Monday against the Royals, and pushes Eddie Bonine out of the slot. Miner held a 4.23 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 44.2 innings as a reliever this season, with only 23 strikeouts, but he merits fantasy consideration in larger mixed-leagues following his promotion to the starting rotation.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/17, 5:13 PM CT
Zach Miner will start on Monday against the Royals, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Miner has been very average this season with a 3-3 record and a 4.22 ERA. But now it looks like he will be a fixture in the rotation for the second half.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/2, 11:24 AM CT
The Detroit Tigers optioned right-handed reliever Zach Miner to Toledo on Wednesday morning, and recalled right-handed reliever Aquilino Lopez.

Our View: Miner scuffled through April and walked four in two innings in Tuesday night's loss to Minnesota. The club is sending Miner down to the farm to work on his mechanics.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSunday 6/1, 7:56 PM CT
Zach Miner eared his second win of the season by throwing a scoreless eighth inning and the Detroit Tigers scored four times in the ninth inning off struggling J.J. Putz to beat the Seattle Mariners 7-5 Sunday.

Our View: Starter Jeremy Bonderman surrendered three runs and a career-high 12 hits over seven innings in the no-decision. Miner has no traditional fantasy value working in middle relief.

Zach Miner is expected to make full use of his bereavement leave. The Tigers don't expect him back until at least Friday, which would use up the seven days allowed on the bereavement list, according to the Detroit Free Press. Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 5/19, 8:09 AM CT
As expected, the Tigers optioned Zach Miner back to Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday's game, according to the Detroit Free Press. He allowed a lone run over 5 1/3 innings during his start the night before. Rather than use him out of the bullpen, the Tigers want him to continue working as a starter at Triple-A for now. He'll be back up with the team when they need help in the rotation or bullpen.
Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersThursday 5/17, 9:05 PM CT
The Tigers recalled Zach Miner from Triple-A Toledo to start Thursday's game. They made the emergency move, as scheduled starter Mike Maroth was out due to an illness. Although he took a loss, Miner did a respectable job by holding the Red Sox to one run on six hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings. Expect him to head right back down to Triple-A, despite the decent performance.

Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersSunday 8/27, 7:49 AM CT

Zach Miner, P, Detroit TigersFriday 8/25, 9:33 AM CT
Zach Miner will remain in the Tigers rotation even after getting ripped for six runs in just 1 1/3 innings in his last start, according to the Detroit News. "I'm not changing my rotation, as we speak," manager Jim Leyland said. "Could it change? A lot of things change."
