Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresTuesday 10/13, 2:08 PM CT
The Associated Press is reporting that Luis Rodriguez and Eliezer Alfonzo have elected free agency after the Padres outrighted their contracts to Triple-A. The team also outrighted Josh Geer and Drew Macias, who accepted the assignment.

Our View: Rodruguez hit .202 in 93 games with the team this past season, and Alfonzo played in only 37 games and hit .175. The Padres should be able to manage just fine without these two players.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresFriday 6/12, 2:53 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will join the club in Anaheim on Friday for the team's interleague series against the Angels according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Wade LeBlanc was sent down to Triple-A Portland to make room for him on the roster.

Our View: Rodriguez will provide infield depth for the Padres, but nothing for fantasy owners. There's no need to keep him on your radar at this time.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresSunday 6/7, 1:36 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez started a rehab assignment at Single-A Saturday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He has been recovering from a sprained left ankle.

Our View: Rodriguez could come off the DL as early as Monday, but it is uncertain how many at-bats he will need during his rehab stint before being deemed fit to return to San Diego.

Luis Rodriguez could be bound for the DL due to a severely sprained ankle, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He did not suffer a break, but is in a great deal of pain. Chris Burke will be a likely candidate to replace him at shortstop. Rodriguez made two fielding errors over 24 starts, and is only hitting .256 over 78 at-bats. He won't be missed in fantasy leagues if placed on the DL.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresSunday 4/26, 2:20 PM CT
Second baseman Luis Rodriguez is out of the lineup on Sunday and is likely unavailable to play, the San Diego Union-Tribune notes. He was hospitalized overnight on Saturday due to an allergic reaction.

Our View: We imagine that Rodriguez may miss another game or two. Anyway, he isn't even useful in most NL-only leagues.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresSaturday 4/25, 10:28 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Luis Rodriguez was sent to the hospital prior to Saturday's game after having an allergic reaction to something he ate. He is believed to be doing ok.

Our View: Rodriguez figures to be back in the starting lineup for the Padres before too long. However, he has minimal fantasy value.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresThursday 4/9, 7:12 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez made the most of his only at-bat on Thursday, doubling home the game-winning run in the eighth inning of the Padres 4-3 comeback win over the Dodgers.

Our View: The 28-year-old Rodriguez hit .287 in 64 games a season ago and appears as if he'll get ample opportunity to make his mark as a utility infielder in 2009. He's played in all four games this season, mostly as a replacement for either third baseman Edgar Gonzalez or shortstop Everth Cabrera.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresWednesday 12/24, 4:43 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Padres, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The switch-hitting infielder batted a career-best .287 over 64 games with San Diego in 2008. He worked primarily at shortstop and could see more action in 2009 following the departure of Khalil Greene to St. Louis.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresMonday 9/22, 2:14 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez has recovered from his strained right triceps injury, and is ready to return to the lineup, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Manager Bud Black noted that Rodriguez will likely start on Tuesday against the Dodgers. Since shortstop Khalil Greene landed on the DL August 1, Rodriguez has batted .304 with 11 doubles and a .331 on-base percentage.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresWednesday 9/17, 6:11 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez left Tuesday's game early for the Padres with a strained tricep but he could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday night, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Rodriguez has filled in nicely at short for the injured Khalil Green but has no fantasy value.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresTuesday 9/16, 11:08 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez left Tuesday's game in the third inning with a strained right triceps, according to the AP.

Our View: We'll update you on Rodriguez's status when more is known.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresSunday 8/31, 6:07 PM CT
Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the Padres 2-1 win over the Rockies on Sunday. The infielder is 16-for-40 (.400) over his last nine games.

Our View: Don't be fooled by Rodriguez's recent success. He shouldn't be an everyday starter in the majors or counted on by fantasy teams.
Luis Rodriguez, SS, San Diego PadresThursday 12/14, 11:27 AM CT
Luis Rodriguez was not tendered a contract by the Twins before this week's deadline, according to the Star-Tribune. However, he has agreed to a two-way contract with the Twins on Wednesday, so he'd earn a reduced salary if he ends up at Triple-A Rochester.
