Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 3/19, 6:16 PM CT
Andy Marte went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Friday's 12-2 pounding of the Rangers.

Our View: The former highly touted prospect is slugging over .600 and has driven in eight this spring, so he has a decent chance of winning a spot on the Indians' bench this season. He may see some spot starts against lefties if he makes the cut.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 9/23, 4:11 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Andy Marte has been designated for assignment by the Indians, according to TSN.

Our View: Marte has failed to impress during his time with Cleveland this season, as he holds a .221 average over 122 at-bats.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 9/23, 11:18 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Indians' prospect Andy Marte will not play at third base for the team for the rest of the season. Marte has been playing at first base for the team since being called up, but his original position is at third.

Our View: Marte has struggled each time he has been given a chance to play at the major league level, and apparently the Tribe doesn't feel the need to make room for him anymore. Jhonny Peralta moved from short to third earlier this season, and he will be taking the playing time at the hot corner for the rest of the season.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 9/5, 7:10 PM CT
Andy Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Scott Baker in Saturday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota at Progressive Field.

Our View: The Indians only had four hits in the game, and Marte was their lone source of scoring. Marte was in need of a solid performance, as he was hitless over his previous three games (11 at-bats). He has two homers this month, and five for the season.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 8/29, 11:47 PM CT
Andy Marte hit his second home run in three games on Saturday, as the Indians won 5-3 in Baltimore.

Our View: Marte has now driven in 12 runs in his past ten games, and is certainly worth a flier in all AL-only formats.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 7/28, 11:26 AM CT
Andy Marte has been officially recalled from Triple-A Columbus.

Our View: Marte should see a significant amount of playing time at first base, and be monitored in most formats, particularly in AL-only leagues.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 7/28, 10:23 AM CT
Andy Marte is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday to take the roster spot of the recently traded Ryan Garko, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View: Marte is a disappointing .211 career hitter in 513 at-bats, but is still believed to have a good deal of potential. In 82 games at Triple-A this season, he is batting a robust .327 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI. If he finally shows signs of life in the majors this time, he could be someone to take a flier on in all formats.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 7/19, 8:25 PM CT
Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer believes that the Indians should recall Andy Marte and give him a chance to play third for the team on a regular basis. Pluto states in the article that Jhonny Peralta has struggled all season, and the team may be better off with Marte at third for the rest of the year.

Our View: Marte is having his best minor leage season so far in 2009, and Peralta ranks near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. A promotion for Marte would also mean prospect Wes Hodges could play every day at third in Triple-A, another positive aspect of the move. Don't be shocked if the Indians give Marte a chance as they fall further and further out of contention, but his past major league performance indicates he will not make much of a splash.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 2/25, 1:41 PM CT
Andy Marte has cleared waivers with the Indians and he will be outrighted to Triple-A Columbus, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Wes Hodges is expected to get most of the starts at third with Columbus, so Marte will likely see time at first and as a DH. The former top prospect currently holds no fantasy value for 2009.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 2/23, 4:21 PM CT
MLB.com reports that third baseman Andy Marte was placed on waivers on Monday. Teams will have until Wednesday to claim him. Otherwise, he will likely land on the Indians' Triple-A team.

Our View: Marte was once considered a strong prospect at his position, but he has consistently failed to take advantage of his opportunities. He was playing every day after Casey Blake was dealt last season, but he eventually lost those starts to Jamey Carroll. Of all AL players with at least 250 at-bats, only Jose Molina had a worse OPS than Marte last season. Regardless, he's just 25 and plays strong defense, meaning some teams may attempt to claim him by Wednesday.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 2/20, 9:50 AM CT
The Cleveland Plain Dealer believes the Twins and Giants could garner interest in Andy Marte.

Our View: The Indians have nine days to either trade, release or outright him after designating him for assignment on Thursday. The Giants could use depth at third, but the Twins look to be set with a platoon of Brendan Harris and Brian Buscher.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansThursday 2/19, 3:14 PM CT
Andy Marte has been designated for assignment by the Indians, according to MLB.com. He was moved to make room on the roster for veteran reliever Juan Salas, who was acquired in a trade with the Rays.

Our View: Marte has failed to play up to high expectations with the Indians so far, and was not expected to make a fantasy impact in 2009.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 2/15, 2:52 PM CT
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that third baseman Andy Marte's time may be coming to a close. He is out of options and figures to be the odd-man out with Mark Derosa taking over at third base.

Our View: The Indians may elect to keep the 25-year-old on the roster just because they will not want to risk losing him. However, he has only hit .219 with 48 RBI in 150 games with the Indians. He did finish 2008 on a high note. In his final 34 games he hit .291 with seven doubles and 11 RBI.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 9/28, 10:13 AM CT
Andy Marte underwent an MRI Saturday, which confirmed the initial diagnosis of a strained left calf, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Head trainer Lonnie Soloff said, "He will remain in Cleveland and receive treatment at Progressive Field through Thursday. After that, he will relocate to Arizona and stay there until he can resume baseball activity."

Our View: The strain is minor and he is believed to be ready to go in about two to four weeks. Marte has solid power potential, but is yet to display it with only three homers over 235 at-bats in 2008.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansThursday 9/25, 11:26 AM CT
Indians third baseman Andy Marte will not suit up the rest of the season as he will need an MRI on his left calf, which he hurt getting out of the batter's box, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View: Marte has had an especially disappointing season, and the former top prospect is now a major suspect. He holds an abysmal .211-9-52 line in 513 career major-league at-bats.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 9/23, 7:55 PM CT
Indians third baseman Andy Marte had a problem getting out of the batter's box in the third inning, and was forced to leave the game with a strained calf, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: Marte has been as useless as tonsils for most of the season. Though he was once a big-time prospect, it's hard to imagine anyone getting too excited about him now.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 8/25, 9:35 PM CT
Andy Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, helping the Indians to a 4-3 win over Detroit, and getting his batting average ever closer to the .200 mark. It now rests at .197.

Our View: Marte now has a modest three-game hitting streak, raising his average from .186 to it's current mark. Needless to say, he is not an appropriate option in fantasy leagues.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 8/5, 10:30 PM CT
Andy Marte went 1-for-4 with a double on Tuesday night, and the hit ended an 0-for-20 slump.

Our View: Marte is out of options, and the Indians are likely to let him keep starting over the next month. What do they have to lose? Marte has yet to show us why he was such a highly regarded prospect.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 8/4, 9:27 PM CT
Andy Marte went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Cleveland's victory over Tampa Bay, and is now 3-for-32 since July 27.

Our View: Marte keeps getting regular playing time, but he has yet to do anything with it. Once a top-flight prospect, he needs to show that he can play at this level if he wants to stick around.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 7/13, 3:24 PM CT
Andy Marte went 2-for-4 in the Indians game this afternoon, hitting his first home run of the year and doubling his RBI total to two on the season.

Our View: Marte was once a big-time prospect, but that seems long ago. He is still just 24 years old, and has time to turn it around, but it needs to happen soon. He has no fantasy value at this point.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/28, 10:49 AM CT
Andy Marte will get a second straight start at third base on Wednesday against the White Sox. He went 1-for-3 with a double on Tuesday.

Our View: The clock is running out on Marte, and the Indians are taking one last shot at seeing if he is worth protecting. He is out of minor league options and would likely be picked up by someone else if subjected to waivers.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 5/27, 7:09 PM CT
As the Indians continue to search for the proper team chemistry, manager Eric Wedge has announced he wishes to give more starts and playing time to third baseman Andy Marte , according to MLB.com.

Our View: Casey Blake has been the primary third bagger for Cleveland and is batting just .221 with three home runs, though he touts a team-high 27 RBIs. Blake has also spent time at first base and right field during recent seasons and could be moved to one of those positions to make room for Marte in the starting lineup. Of course, the continued shoulder woes for designated hitter Travis Hafner could open a spot there as well. Marte has been with the club since opening day, but he has just 12 appearances to date. Out of minor league options, the Indians have no desire to expose Marte to waivers and are ready to give him a true shot as the team struggles for offense.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/7, 7:33 PM CT
Andy Marte made his second straight start at third base on Wednesday as the team might be giving him one last chance to make his mark, according to MLB.com. "We want to give him a chance to play two days in a row," manager Eric Wedge said. "I felt he had some decent swings [on Tuesday] night."

Our View: Casey Blake shifted to first base on this night to allow Marte to be in the lineup. Marte is running out of chances to prove he is the Indians third baseman of the future, and with no minor league options left, the team could end up placing him on waivers if he doesn't start to show something.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 5/6, 5:57 PM CT
Andy Marte will start at third and bat ninth against Andy Pettitte and the Yankees on Tuesday. He is filling in for the slumping Casey Blake. Marte is 1-for-13 on the season.

Our View: The Indians are digging for any spark of hope they can find at this point. Marte has never been able to handle major league pitching, but he may have a small opening.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 3/25, 6:40 PM CT
Andy Marte hit a three-run homer Tuesday that put the Indians ahead of the Yankees in the eighth inning. That was the good news. The bad was that the homer was his lone hit in four at-bats, leaving his spring batting average near the Mendoza line, and he made two errors in the game. Marte's out of options, so he's almost certainly going to break camp with the Indians, but unless he can iron out his defensive play and work at the plate, he won't have any fantasy value as a reserve.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 3/24, 8:04 PM CT
Andy Marte will likely make the Indians roster out of camp, this according to a report in The Plains Dealer. Marte is out of options so the team would certainly lose him if they were to expose him to waivers, and he does have four home runs and 10 RBI this spring despite a .205 average. The power is legit, but his troubles at the plate will likely hold him back from producing a breakout season.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 3/15, 4:42 PM CT
Andy Marte may be past his early spring slump as he blasted two home runs against the Astros on Saturday. He notably hit a home run on Friday as well, and now has four for the spring. He raised his batting average to .242 and has 10 RBI additionally.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 3/14, 8:50 AM CT
Andy Marte has lacked consistency this spring. "He's had good days and bad days," manager Eric Wedge said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I think he's been a little tentative defensively. He's shown signs offensively. I want to see him be more consistent with his offense and defense." The only consistent thing Marte has done is hit poorly this spring, going 5-for-27 at the plate. The third baseman has been tested out at first and the outfield to increase his versatility. That's because he's out of minor league options, so he has to stay on the roster or be exposed to waivers, and his versatility could give him a little more value to the Indians. As it stands now, he's not in line for much playing time when the season begins.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 3/10, 8:49 AM CT
Andy Marte is not hitting well, but that is fine according to MLBnewsonline. To ease the pressure, the team said he is a lock to make the team regardless of his spring performance, which is great for him considering how poorly he hit in the Dominican Winter League (only hit .198). He is making contact this spring but his bat lacks any real "pop" as he is wavering at the .200 average mark. His breakout campaign seems a long way from now.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 2/23, 3:29 PM CT
Andy Marte was told by the Indians at the end of last season that he needed to arrive at spring training in better shape, according to MLB.com. However, he appears to be in similar shape to last season. "It's OK, it's not great," Wedge said of Marte's conditioning. "But it's not bad, either. He's in the middle of the road. He needs to do some work this spring. But he is moving around well at third." Marte should stick with the Indians when the season begins, because he's out of minor league options, but he'll have little value in a reserve role.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 2/17, 1:51 PM CT
The Indians are likely to keep Andy Marte on the roster when the season opens. However, his spot will become tougher to hold when outfielder Shin-Soo Choo (elbow) is ready to return in May, MLB.com reports. Both Marte and Choo are out of minor league options.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 9/4, 4:26 PM CT
The Indians recalled Andy Marte from Triple-A on Tuesday. Marte has hit .267 with 16 homers and 60 RBI in the minors this year. Once considered a top prospect, Marte is unlikely to see much playing time with the Tribe.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 6/12, 9:02 AM CT
Andy Marte was named the International League’s Batter of the Week on Monday after hitting four homers and driving in 11 runs last week, reports the team’s official website.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 5/29, 8:29 AM CT
Andy Marte was optioned to Triple-A on Monday in order to work on his swing. “Marte has not been getting enough playing time,” manager Eric Wedge told the Akron Beacon-Journal. We want to be sure to have him utilize the time he has in the minors, so he is that much more prepared, especially because he is someone we think will be an everyday player.” Marte has played only in spot duty against lefties since returning from the disabled list 10 days ago.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 5/20, 3:52 AM CT
Although Andy Marte was activated by the Indians Saturday, he's not going back into a full-time role, the team's official site reports. Marte is expected to see part-time duty for the time being, with most of his work coming against left-handed pitching.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/16, 8:51 AM CT
With Andy Marte eligible to return from his minor league rehab stint on Friday, the Indians are waffling on whether or not to keep him with the major league club. “Physically he looks fine,” general manager Mark Shapiro told the Akron Beacon Journal. “What we haven’t seen is consistency of approach at the plate. At the end of his rehab assignment Friday, we will either bring him up or option him.” In Marte’s absence, Casey Blake has entrenched himself at third base, while Ryan Garko has played well at first.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/16, 1:56 AM CT
A decision is due soon on Andy Marte, who's been on the DL since April 23 with a strained left hamstring, the AP reports. His injury rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo is over Friday and the Indians will have to determine whether to activate him or option him to their farm club. Marte went 4-for-4 Monday night to improve his average to .276 with two homers and three RBIs in nine games at Buffalo.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 5/14, 7:13 AM CT
It remains unclear whether the Indians will keep Andy Marte with the team once healthy or send him to Triple-A, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Manager Eric Wedge has said repeatedly that he wants Marte back with the Indians as soon as the third baseman's strained hamstring is healed. However, some in the organization believe Marte, who was hitting just .179 in 39 at-bats, could use some more seasoning in the minors.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/9, 8:54 AM CT
Andy Marte returned to action over the weekend for the Indians Triple-A club as he continues to rehabilitate a strained hamstring, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. He played six innings at third base on Monday and hit a two-run homer, then went 1-for-3 on Tuesday night.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 5/6, 7:28 AM CT
Andy Marte is expected to resume his rehab assignment on Sunday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He hasn't played since feeling a twinge in his strained hamstring during Monday's contest. Although he's elgible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, that won't happen. "I don't want to put a time frame on it," said manager Eric Wedge. "The games are more about him being able to play back-to-back and run around. I don't want him to feel he's physically limited."
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/2, 9:36 AM CT
Andy Marte had to be taken out of the lineup after feeling a twinge in his hamstring during a minor league game on Monday, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. "He played a couple of games but experienced some soreness in the hamstring after two at-bats at DH [Monday]," manager Eric Wedge said. "I don't think it's anything major." Marte is at Triple-A as he continues to rehab a strained hamstring.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 4/28, 6:39 AM CT
Andy Marte is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. "If he wakes up tomorrow and feels good, he'll probably go on Sunday," manager Eric Wedge said. "At the end of the 15 days (DL period), we'll see where he's at. He can have more time if he needs it." Marte isn't eligible to return from his strained hamstring until May 8.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 4/23, 4:34 PM CT

Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 4/23, 7:24 AM CT
Although the Indians list Andy Marte as questionable for their series against the Twins, it's doubtful that he will be able to play in the opener on Monday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He was forced out of Sunday's game due to a strained left hamstring.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 4/22, 3:43 PM CT

Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 4/18, 11:12 PM CT

Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 3/30, 9:11 AM CT
Andy Marte will bat ninth to open the season, in part because Eric Wedge doesn't want to put any extra pressure on him, the Indians official site reports. Marte is hitting .294 this spring, with two homers and seven RBI.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 7/28, 1:48 PM CT
The Indians recalled Andy Marte from Triple-A Buffalo Friday, according to the AP. He was hitting .261 with 15 homers and 46 RBI in 96 games at Buffalo. He'll see a good deal of the action at third base with Aaron Boone struggling and likely to be dealt.
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 7/28, 8:47 AM CT
Indians GM returned from Buffalo after watching Andy Marte play three games, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Marte looked better in spring training," said Shapiro. "He needs work." If the Indians were in contention, Shapiro said that Marte would stay in Buffalo a while longer. But they aren't, to which Shapiro said, "We've got to start the transition soon. That means he's probably going to struggle a little bit when he gets here."
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansThursday 7/27, 8:50 AM CT
General manager Mark Shapiro said that Andy Marte would be called up to the big leagues "relatively soon," according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Andy is still a work in progress with a lot of ability and great power," said Shapiro. "It will be important to remember when he arrives that there is still development to be done with Andy, and it will have to get completed at the major-league level."
Andy Marte, 1B, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 7/25, 8:55 AM CT
Indians GM Mark Shapiro arrived at Triple-A Buffalo on Monday with the intention of watching Andy Marte over the next three or four games, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He'll then decide when Marte will be called up to the big leagues. Shapiro is on record as saying he wants to promote Marte no later than Sept. 1, but it's expected to happen before then.
