Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 2/17, 8:18 PM CT
It looks like Kenny Rogers will retire, according to MLB.com. Teammate Jeremy Bonderman has been trying to talk Rogers into returning, but says that it looks like he will not be coming back.

Our View: This is no surprise at all. Rogers is 44-years old and has a great career, going 219-156 with a 4.27 ERA.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 1/24, 10:00 PM CT
Kenny Rogers is leaning towards retirement, according to Mlive.com. "He's retired," new Tigers pitching coach Rick Knapp said Saturday, breaking into a smile. "His wife says that he's retired. Kenny and I go way back."

Our View: If this report is accurate, then Rogers will have finished his career by going 9-13 with a 5.70 ERA in 30 starts. For his career, he went 219-156 with a 4.27 ERA with his most memorable feat being the perfect game that he threw for the Rangers on July 28th of 1994.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 11/11, 4:15 PM CT
Kenny Rogers filed for free agency Tuesday, according to Sports Network. He is still deciding whether or not he will pitch next year or retire.

Our View: Rogers would likely want to return to Detroit if he does decide to continue playing, but it remains to be seen if that interest would be mutual after The Gambler's disastrous 2008 campaign.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 10/26, 2:45 PM CT
Kenny Rogers wouldn't directly commit to playing in 2009, but it sounds as if he wants to continue pitching, according to the Detroit Free Press. "I know I can pitch," he said. "I could go out and have a great year next year. It can happen."

Our View: It's not clear whether the Tigers really want him back. The Gambler had a horrible 2008 season, posting a 5.70 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 30 starts.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersMonday 9/15, 7:03 PM CT
ESPN is reporting that Kenny Rogers will not pitch again this year for the Tigers.

Our View: Manager Jim Leyland gave no reason why Rogers was shut down for the year. Rogers was having a rough year with an ERA of over five.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 9/14, 10:33 PM CT
Kenny Rogers wiggled his way through four innings on Sunday night before he allowed five runs in the fifth inning against the White Sox. All told, Rogers allowed eight hits and two walks which led to seven runs in just 4.2 innings of work.

Our View: The Tigers offense came back to tie the game off the White Sox bullpen sparing Rogers from taking the defeat. His ERA has ballooned to 5.70 thanks to 4-straight outings of at least six earned runs allowed. This is likely the end of the road for Rogers.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 9/12, 11:01 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Tigers would like to get Kenny Rogers back on the mound on Saturday. The Tigers skipped his last start for a turn through the rotation to allow him to rest and gear up for the White Sox this weekend.

Our View: Rogers last pitched on Sept. 4 against the Angels, who hit him around for six runs on eight hits in two innings before he was pulled after just 39 pitches. We do not recommend gambling on him this time through.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 9/6, 12:55 PM CT
Kenny Rogers will miss his next scheduled start, according to the Detroit Free Press. Manager Jim Leyland believes he is dealing with a painful hip and said, "It's not his arm. I think he needs to freshen up his body a little bit and get his hip a little better."

Our View: He will return to the rotation a week from Saturday to battle the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Rogers' next start would have been Tuesday, and Leyland indicated that Nate Robertson may come out of the bullpen to fill his spot.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 9/4, 6:09 PM CT
Kenny Rogers may be in the final month of his big league career if he can't pull out of his recent slump, according to MLive. "I don't want to just hang on to wear the uniform. I'm being realistic in where I am in my age and career."

Our View: Since July 28th, Rogers is 1-7 with a 8.50 ERA as he has served as a batting practice machine in most outings. At 43 years of age, Rogers and his 219 career wins are likely at the end of the line.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 9/4, 2:42 PM CT
Kenny Rogers picked up his 13th loss of the season, as he was pounded all over the field by the Angels. In just two innings of work, Rogers gave up six runs on eight hits in the Tigers 7-1 loss.

Our View: Rogers has lost a remarkable seven of his last eight games, and has seen his ERA jump more than a run in that time, from 4.48 to 5.49. Don't use him on fantasy teams for any reason.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 8/26, 8:41 AM CT
The Detroit Free Press indicates that Kenny Rogers has been placed on waivers by the Tigers and could be traded soon.

Our View: A deal must come before Sunday, as that is the deadline to set postseason rosters. The 43-year-old hurler wouldn't likely be more fantasy worthy with another club.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 8/24, 4:21 PM CT
Kenny Rogers was hit hard by the Kansas City Royals, throwing six innings, and allowing seven runs, six of which were earned, in the Royals 7-3 win over Detroit.

Our View: Rogers now carries a record of 9-11. His ERA jumped to 5.09 on the season. He has little to no fantasy value at this point.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 8/8, 9:38 PM CT
Kenny Rogers fell to 8-9 on Friday though he didn't pitch horribly given up four runs, three earned, to the A's over seven innings.

Our View: Rogers has 63 K on the year, less than four per nine innings, while compiling 55 walks leading to a hideous 1.15 K/BB ratio. With a number like that if he doesn't have pinpoint control, nights like this are about as good as the Tigers can hope for.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 8/2, 9:06 PM CT
Kenny Rogers was torched for seven earned runs on six hits over a mere 3.1 innings in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Rays, with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: He falls to 8-8 for the season, and has allowed 12 earned runs over his last two starts. He should only be active in larger AL-only leagues.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 12:43 AM CT
The Tigers found solid pitching from the veteran left arm of Kenny Rogers this evening, leading his team to a 7-1 rain-soaked win over the Kansas City Royals. Rogers pitched six innings, allowing just one run over four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: The Tigers needed his effort this evening, finding muted offensive numbers. Rogers now carries a record of 5-2 over his last 12 starts.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/17, 9:03 PM CT
Kenny Rogers got the win tonight despite giving up four runs, 11 hits and two walks in six innings.

Our View: Rogers will get wins as long as the Tigers score. His WHIP and ERA continue to keep him out of fantasy leagues.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 7/13, 9:03 PM CT
Kenny Rogers is scheduled to start for the Tigers in their Thursday game following the All Star break. He finished the first half with a no-decision against the Twins after allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.

Our View: Rogers has been one of Detroit's most consistent starters after a slow April and May. Since June 2, the left-handed veteran has allowed 2.30 earned runs per game in 10 starts.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/10, 5:19 PM CT
Kenny Rogers had another effective outing on Thursday as he allowed three runs over seven innings against the Twins. Rogers permitted nine hits and two walks, while striking out only one batter.

Our View: Over his last nine starts, Rogers has allowed three or fewer earned runs seven times as he continues to give the Tigers time for the offense to come around to win the game. Despite the stretch of decent pitching, he has only been rewarded with two victories in this stretch.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 7/4, 6:22 PM CT
Kenny Rogers allowed four earned runs on six hits over 7.2 innings in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Mariners in Seattle, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Rogers drops to 6-6, and his ERA climbs to 4.60. He is 2-2 over his last four starts.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 6/29, 4:08 PM CT
Kenny Rogers improved to 6-5 with a so-so outing against the Rockies on Sunday. The southpaw allowed eight hits and three runs over six innings. His ERA stands at 4.59, but Rogers owns a 2.68 mark over six starts in June.

Our View: We can't expect Rogers to keep dealing at a sub-3.00 level, but he's worth plugging in if the matchup looks good.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/18, 12:06 AM CT
Kenny Rogers held the Giants to one run on five hits and a walk while striking out a pair in the Tigers' 5-1 win Tuesday. The lefty threw just 90 pitches.

Our View: The Gambler got off to a horrid start this year but has now allowed a mere four runs over his last five starts. He appears to be in line for another solid outing later this week, as he gets the Padres in San Diego.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 6/12, 2:49 PM CT
Kenny Rogers only surrendered one earned run on four hits over eight innings of work in Thursday's 2-1 win over the White Sox, with one walk and one strikeout. He pitched great, but left the game with a no decision. Miguel Cabrera broke the 1-1 tie with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.

Our View: Rogers has allowed two or less earned runs in three straight starts, two of those games which the Tigers lost.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 6/7, 7:46 PM CT
Kenny Rogers had his third straight solid start as he held the Indians to three runs, one earned, over seven innings in a no-decision.

Our View: Rogers still has a 5.13 ERA and is nothing more than a spot starter at his age, but he has found the strike zone and has allowed just three earned runs in his last three starts, so you can consider picking him up if you lost someone like Jake Westbrook recently.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 6/3, 12:14 AM CT
Kenny Rogers took another tough no-decision on Monday night. He held the A's to six hits and two runs over seven innings. Rogers tossed in four walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Rogers has pitched much better over his last two outings, but we're not ready to trust him in mixed leagues. Maybe one more good outing will do the trick.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 5/27, 12:22 AM CT
Kenny Rogers pitched seven scoreless innings but wasn't involved in the decision on Monday night as the high-dollar batting order of the Tigers were shutout by Angels fifth starter, Jon Garland. Rogers allowed only five hits and walked one while striking out two.

Our View: This is as good as it gets from the aging southpaw. In fact, don't expect the veteran to pitch this good again. Not this year, and maybe never. Rogers had a 6.66 ERA and 1.88 WHIP coming into tonight's game against a good hitting Angels lineup.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersMonday 5/26, 2:10 PM CT
Kenny Rogers will aim to improve his 4-4 mark when the Tigers battle the Angels tonight, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Rogers holds a poor 6.66 ERA and 1.88 WHIP, and has allowed 11 earned runs over his last two starts. He could end the night with a winning record, but should not be considered for your lineups.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 5/15, 5:23 PM CT
Kenny Rogers allowed 11 hits, three walks and seven runs over four innings to fall to 3-4 for the Tigers.

Our View: Rogers may have stuck around one season too long as he has basically been only slightly better than a batting practice pitcher on most days. Only the desperate have Rogers rostered.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 5/9, 10:27 PM CT
Kenny Rogers pitched into the seventh inning for the first time this year, and received enough run support from his teammates to beat the New York Yankees 6-5 Friday night. Rogers won his third game of the year allowing two runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out three.

Our View: The Yankees struggle against left-handed pitching and were unable to do much damage to the Tigers veteran. Rogers lowered his 6.27 ERA to 5.82.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 4/29, 12:27 PM CT
Kenny Rogers only lasted 3.1 innings in his last outing against Texas as he got rocked for six runs on nine hits, and will be looking to rebound tonight when he makes his next start against the Yankees, according to MLB.com. It won't be easy for him, as he holds a 5-7 record with a 6.45 ERA over his career in the regular season against New York, a team that he played for from 1996-1997.

Our View: Rogers is namely having control issues right now as only 44 of his 73 pitches against Texas went for strikes in his last start, and he should remain on your bench tonight. He is 1-3 with a 7.66 ERA and 1.91 WHIP for the season.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 4/23, 10:14 PM CT
At first glance, we would think veteran starter Kenny Rogers would have enjoyed the 6-19 victory over the Texas Rangers, but the Detroit hurler failed to get his team off on the right foot and left without a decision. Rogers lasted just 3 1/3 innings, surrendering six runs (all earned) on nine hits. Rogers threw 73 pitches (44 for strikes) in that short outing, surrendering three walks and earning no strike outs.

Our View: Rogers has allowed way too many runs over his last three starts: 17 runs surrendered, ALL EARNED. That's a problem.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 4/23, 8:51 AM CT
Kenny Rogers will take the mound tonight as the Tigers host the Rangers, according to MLB.com. Rogers is 1-3 with a 6.33 ERA, and is 6-3 with a 3.80 ERA lifetime over 15 appearances against the Rangers.

Our View: He could win tonight, while opposed by righty Luis Mendoza who is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA, but he will likely give up more runs than favorable (evidenced by his 6.33 ERA), and he isn't a solid fantasy play.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 4/18, 10:21 PM CT
Kenny Rogers won his first game since last July as he worked 6.2 innings and limited the Blue Jays to four runs on three hits and four walks.

Our View: Rogers just needs to keep the game close to allow the Tigers time to mount some offense, but his ratio's are going to be borderline 'hide the children' territory, so you are really going to have to pay for those victories.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 4/8, 11:46 AM CT
Kenny Rogers is set to take the hill for the winless Tigers today, according to MLB.com. Rogers notably pitched well in his first start, as he only allowed two earned runs on five hits over six innings. He holds a 11-7 career record against Boston with a 4.81 ERA. The Tigers really need to end their losing streak and Rogers seems up to the challenge.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 4/2, 3:04 PM CT
Kenny Rogers was dealt his first loss of the season against the Royals on Wednesday, as he allowed two runs on five hits over six innings, with one walk and four strikeouts. He had a fairly solid spring training and should bounce back in his next trip to the hill.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 3/27, 5:35 PM CT
Kenny Rogers improved his spring record to 2-0 as he only allowed two runs on three hits over four innings against Philadelphia on Thursday, with no walks and one strikeout. His ERA now stands at 3.44 and he should make a fine late round draft pick, as long as he stays healthy.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersMonday 3/17, 4:36 PM CT
Kenny Rogers had a solid outing against the Reds on Monday as he only allowed two runs on six hits over five innings, with one walk and one strikeout. Rogers should make a fine late round draft pick, as long as he stays healthy.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 3/12, 3:58 PM CT
Kenny Rogers became the first Detroit pitcher to work at least five innings in a game this spring. The Tigers left-handed veteran struggled in the second inning but retired the final 10 batters he faced for the win. Rogers is being ignored in most traditional mixed leagues. His ADP, according to Mock Draft Central, is the 29th round of 30 round formats.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 2/17, 5:05 PM CT
Kenny Rogers is 43-years-old, but he still has a lot to offer the Tigers both on and off the field according to MLB.com. "Kenny knows exactly how he goes about his business," manager Jim Leyland said. "He knows how to prepare himself." Rogers will have to once again prove himself after throwing only 63 innings last season, the lowest total of his career. Rogers can still win games but it's been three years since he totaled 100 K and his WHIP hasn't been below 1.26 since 1998, so tread carefully.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 11/30, 11:02 AM CT
Kenny Rogers agreed to a one-year deal with the Tigers Friday to stay in Detroit, according to the AP. The veteran represented himself in contract negotiations after firing agent Scott Boras. Rogers made just 11 starts in 2007 due to a blood clot in his left shoulder.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersFriday 11/16, 12:10 PM CT
Although Kenny Rogers is apparently testing the market, the Tigers remain his first priority, according to the Detroit Free Press. "My opinion of the Tigers remains extremely high," Rogers said. "My first priority has not changed. I hope to be with the Tigers in 2008." The Rangers are another club that has expressed interest in Rogers, but they want an apology for his altercation with a cameraman back in 2005 - something that isn't likely to happen.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 11/15, 11:14 AM CT
The Rangers have expressed interest in signing Kenny Rogers, but they've made it clear that they'll do so only if the veteran lefty issues an apology to the organization for his altercation with a reporter back in 2005, according to the Dallas Morning News. "He's got to take care of some unfinished business," owner Tom Hicks said. "He's got to apologize." After the incident occurred several years ago, Rogers apologized to the fans, but never to the club. Rogers is seeking a one-year deal worth about $10 million, although Detroit still seems like his most likely destination.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 11/8, 10:56 AM CT
Kenny Rogers has officially decided to pitch in 2008. However, agent Scott Boras has informed the Tigers that Rogers intends to test the market, according to the Detroit Free Press. "It's different than what Kenny told us," GM Dave Dombrowski said Wednesday, "but that's what Scott has expressed." It still appears likely that Rogers will end up back in Detroit, but the Tigers will be forced to move on as if he wasn't returning if he indeed intends to talk to other clubs.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 11/7, 10:53 AM CT
Kenny Rogers, a free agent, is leaning toward returning for another year, and he's expected to return to Detroit, according to the Detroit Free Press. "He told us before, directly, that if he made that decision, he wanted to be with us," GM Dave Dombrowski said. "His representative (Scott Boras) has been very busy with other things going on, but we're interested in him. We continue to be interested."
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 10/31, 11:09 AM CT

"A lot of that depends on if he's healthy and performing."
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSunday 9/2, 6:17 AM CT

Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 9/1, 8:27 AM CT
As expected, Kenny Rogers tossed a simulated game on Friday to test out his sore elbow. "I felt pretty good about everything I did," Rogers told the Detroit Free Press. "It's getting better. It's better than I felt like it would be, so I'm happy with that." All signs point to Rogers returning to the rotation on Wednesday, though the Tigers have yet to make a final decision.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersThursday 8/30, 11:20 AM CT
Kenny Rogers will throw a simulated game Friday and if all goes well, he could return to the rotation next week. "We'll play it by ear from there," manager Jim Leyland said in the Detroit Free Press. It is not known whether the blood clot is in Rogers' arm or how serious it may be; Rogers left the team Thursday to undergo tests by a specialist at an undisclosed location. From the arm issue alone, Rogers is slated to start the year on the DL and miss one start.

Kenny Rogers will begin the year on the disabled list due to a tired arm, according to the Sports Network. The move is retroactive to March 25, so Rogers could return to the Tigers by April 9, missing just one start. Chad Durbin will replace Rogers in the rotation for the time being.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland has decided not to use Kenny Rogers in Game 2 at Oakland, according to the AP. Instead Leyland will hold him back until the series shifts to Detroit for Game 3 on Friday. Rogers is 25-4 in his career in Oakland and 23-1 in 41 starts at the Coliseum since 1995, including two wins this season. "We considered that very strongly, but at the same time we felt like the effort against the Yankees was such a draining effort that we decided to give him the time," Leyland said. "That's why the decision was made. And at the same time, if by chance the series would go seven games, he would be able to pitch Game 3 and then Game 7 in Oakland. That's why we did it."
