Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersFriday 3/19, 4:58 PM CT
According to the Seattle Times, the Mariners are considering playing Jose Lopez at third base this season and moving new acquisition Chone Figgins to second base.

Our View: The Mariners have already tried this out in spring training, so apparently it's going well. While this would be a great move for fantasy owners, providing more flexibility for both players, it seems like a dicey move for the M's. One of the reasons they acquired Figgins was for his defense at the hot corner, and one of the reasons they improved so much last season was because they were so sound defensively. It's uncertain why they would want to mess with that, but we'll trust Don Wakamatsu.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 11/25, 9:54 AM CT
The Tacoma News Tribune is reporting that Jose Lopez will likely be the Mariners' starting second baseman when the team opens play next season. The Mariners have been shopping Lopez since the season ended, but no one has shown any interest in the power-hitting infelder.

Our View: The M's would love to trade Lopez and get some return, but teams are scared off by his .303 OBP last season. He isn't a great defender and he doesn't get on base at a good pace, but the man still hit 25 homers and drove in 96 RBI last season from the second base position, so fantasy owners will be far more accomodating.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 11/24, 11:46 AM CT
Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times doesn't believe that Jose Lopez will be back with the Mariners in 2009.

Our View: Lopez swatted 25 home runs and piled up 96 RBI last season (despite his .303 on-base percentage), giving him some decent trade value. With Dustin Ackley the man of the future at second base in Seattle, the M's could trade Lopez now, and sign a stop-gap to wait for Ackley, who is projected to make the major leagues in 2011. That OBP could be a hindrance in any potential deal, however.

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersThursday 9/10, 12:03 AM CT
Jose Lopez went 3-for-4 with his 23rd home run on Wednesday night, but it wasn't nearly enough for the Mariners, who lost 6-3 in Anaheim.

Our View: Lopez has followed up his .297, 18 homer, 97 RBI 2008 with an equally impressive .272, 23 homer, 85 RBI 2009. He will be a solid pick at second base next season.

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/2, 4:10 PM CT

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/2, 10:00 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

Jose Lopez drove in the only Mariners' run on Thursday as Seattle fell to the Rangers 7-1. Lopez was 1-for-4 with the RBI single in the game.

Our View: Lopez has missed time as of late with an injury, but he was the only one who managed to produce any offense against Rangers' starter Derek Holland tonight. Expect Lopez to continue to hit if he is healthy, as he is on pace for career highs in homers and RBI.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/29, 6:24 PM CT
Jose Lopez led the Mariners in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays at Safeco Field, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit a single, double and a solo homer off ace Roy Halladay.

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/27, 7:50 PM CT
Jose Lopez was held out of Seattle's lineup on Monday with back stiffness, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Manager Don Wakamatsu said he expects Lopez back in the team's lineup on Tuesday, and so should you. AL-only leaguers should not be worried, while most mixed-league owners probably shouldn't own him in the first place.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/21, 9:30 PM CT

Our View: Lopez now has 12 homers on the season and seven of them have come since June 7th. After having a miserable first two months, the second baseman has emerged back into the realm of fantasy relevance.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/3, 10:06 PM CT
Jose Lopez hit a go-ahead home run in the 11th inning Friday night to give the Mariners a 7-6 win over the Red Sox. Lopez finished the day 3-for-5.

Our View: Lopez was miserable in April and May and was on his way to being one of the season's biggest fantasy busts before he broke out in June with five homers and a .329 average. Looks like it's carried over into July.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/29, 1:25 PM CT
According to the Tacoma News-Tribune, the Mariners' have discussed moving second baseman Jose Lopez to third while Adrian Beltre is out after shoulder surgery. When asked if he was comfortable at third, Lopez replied, "I'm comfortable in the lineup, anywhere but catcher."

Our View: The M's are going to be hurting defensively at third with Beltre out, but Lopez seems like a decent option since the team has guys like Ronny Cedeno and Chris Woodward who can fill-in at second. Hopefully the move, if it does happen, won't affect Lopez offensively, as he has been on fire in the month of June.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/28, 7:48 PM CT
Jose Lopez led the way for the Mariners on Sunday in their 4-2 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Lopez went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI in the win.

Our View: Lopez doesn't look like he has missed a beat since missing a week while on the bereavement list. His is still having an excellent June, and he is starting to look like the player everyone expected him to be before the season started. He is a strong play at second base in all leagues, so keep him in the lineup going forward.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/27, 12:36 AM CT
Jose Lopez was productive in Friday's 8-2 loss at the Dodgers, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI. All three of his knocks were singles.

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/25, 3:46 PM CT
According to The Sports Network, the Mariners have activated second baseman Jose Lopez from the bereavement list. Lopez is in the Mariners' lineup for their Thursday afternoon game against the Padres.

Our View: Lopez was gone to be with his sister while she was dealing with cancer, but he is back now and hopefully he can return to the way he was hitting before he left the team. Watch for Lopez to be a major fantasy player in the second half, especially if he can continue his torrid June play.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/24, 10:20 AM CT
The Everett Herald reports that second baseman Jose Lopez is scheduled to be activated from the bereavement list Wednesday.

Our View: Lopez will likely be in the starting lineup on Thursday. He was having a red hot month of June, until leaving the team to be with his sister, who tragically passed due to a battle with cancer. He should be fine to insert back into lineups tomorrow.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/18, 1:41 PM CT
The Seattle Times is reporting that the Mariners have placed second baseman Jose Lopez on the bereavement list. The reason for this trip is unknown at this time, but Lopez has left San Diego, where the Mariners are currently playing an interleague series.

Our View: Lopez has been smoking hot in the month of June, but fantasy owners should find another option at second base for the next few days. We will keep you updated on his return, but a player can only spend a maximum of seven days on the list.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/17, 11:51 PM CT
Jose Lopez was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in the Mariners 4-3 win over the Padres on Wednesday.

Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/13, 11:09 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer off Manny Corpas in Saturday's 5-3 loss at Colorado.

Our View: Lopez has four homers so far in June after only hitting three in the entire month of May. He has nine homers for the season, and is on pace to top his career-high of 17.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/10, 8:38 PM CT
Jose Lopez had a huge night for the Mariners as they defeated the Orioles 4-1 on Wednesday. He finished the game 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored.

Our View: Lopez had the Mariners lone RBI on Tuesday, and he has been their top run producer for the past three nights. In that stretch, he has three home runs, seven hits and six RBI.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/9, 9:43 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 1-for-4 with a single, and recorded the Mariners' lone RBI in Tuesday's 3-1 loss at Baltimore.

Our View: Lopez is swinging the stick better this month after struggling through May with a .214 batting average. He is still only worth using in AL-only leagues.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/7, 7:17 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 3-for-5 and ripped his sixth home run of the season in Seattle's 4-2 win over the Twins on Sunday.

Our View: Lopez is hitting just .236 this season, but has been picking it up lately. He doubled his home run total for the season since May 29th and has his average up from .216 on May 26th.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 5/30, 11:57 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Saturday's 4-3 win at the Angels.

Our View: Lopez hit a homer in back-to-back games, but is still hitting a dismal .219 for the season. He has been a disappointment after hitting .297 with 17 homers in 2008.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 5/30, 12:00 AM CT
Jose Lopez went deep for the fourth time this season in Friday's 5-2 win over the Angels. He was 1-for-3 on the day.

Our View: Lopez has been a major disappointment this season. He's hitting just .218 with four homers and 22 RBI after going .297/17/89 last season. If he doesn't turn it around soon, consider benching him and finding a replacement.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 5/27, 2:20 PM CT
Jose Lopez is not in today's lineup at Oakland while nursing soreness in his legs, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Ronny Cedeno will get the nod at second base. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersThursday 5/14, 3:50 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 3-2 loss at Texas. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: The Mariners only managed five hits in the game. Lopez needed a solid performance as he was hitless over his previous two games.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/3, 9:56 PM CT
Jose Lopez was 3-for-8 with an RBI and a run scored in the Mariners' 8-7, 15-inning win over the A's on Sunday. His RBI came in the final inning and gave the Mariners a walk-off winner.

Our View: Lopez is only hitting .272 this season with a pair of homers and 17 RBI, but he's capable of much more. He's got very good pop for a second baseman and his power numbers were almost identical to Dustin Pedroia's last year. Expect him to heat up eventually.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/25, 12:18 AM CT
Jose Lopez had a big night on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and a walk in the Mariners' 8-3 win over the Angels. Lopez raised his average to .236 on the year.

Our View: Lopez hasn't been great so far in 2009, but he continues to show flashes of what he can do. Stick with Lopez if you have him, as his power potential is good for a second baseman.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersThursday 4/23, 12:39 AM CT
Jose Lopez only had one hit on Wednesday, but it was a big one. Lopez hit a three run homer, but the Mariners fell to the Rays 9-3. Lopez is now hitting .208 on the year.

Our View: Lopez has gotten off to a rough start, but he showed tonight why many people think he can be a top fantasy option at second base. Expect him to start hitting with more consistency and power as the season goes on.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/8, 10:37 PM CT
Jose Lopez was 2-for-4 with a home run on Wednesday as the Mariners fell to the Twins 6-5. The homer was his first of the year.

Our View: Lopez quietly had a strong fantasy campaign last year and should be poised to build on it in 2009 as he had a strong second half. He has the potential to hit close to .300 with 20 home runs and 100 RBI.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 2/28, 9:15 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 1-for-3 on Saturday for Seattle with a single.

Our View: Lopez is batting just .167 in the Cactus League so far this season. He had a great year in 2008, hitting 17 homers to go with 89 RBI and a .297 average, so hopefully he won't have a down year to follow it up.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 2/14, 3:52 PM CT
Jose Lopez could represent Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Final rosters must be submitted by February 24.

Our View: The young infielder broke out with 17 homers and 89 RBI last season, and hit .300 in four of the six months. Lopez was a bright spot for a terrible Mariners' club in 2008, and he still has room to improve.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/28, 8:13 PM CT
The AP reports that Jose Lopez made his 12th start of the season at first base. Seattle was trying the usual second baseman there this month to see if he could possibly be a first baseman in 2009. Asked what he thought of that, Lopez said, “No. I don’t want to move.”

Our View: Lopez set career highs in home runs (17), RBI (89), runs (80) and batting average (.297) in 2008. The 24-year-old from Anzoategui should continue to improve regardles of where he plays.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 9/27, 12:36 AM CT
Jose Lopez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI in Friday's 10-8 win over Oakland. Both of his hits went for home runs, at the expense of pitcher Sean Gallagher.

Our View: Lopez now has 17 homers for the season, and has collected a hit in six of his last seven games.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/16, 10:01 PM CT
Jose Lopez made another start at first base on Tuesday but it was his bat that got the most attention. He hit his 15th home run on a night where he went 3-for-4.

Our View: He has raised his average to .299, which is worth noting since he hit just .252 last season. His 15 home runs is also a career high.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/14, 8:46 AM CT
Lopez made his first career start at first base on Saturday, the Mariners' team website reports.

Our View: This seems unlikely to become a trend, but Lopez does gain first base eligibility in some leagues.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/12, 12:25 AM CT
Jose Lopez went 2-for-4 on Thursday night as he knocked in his 80th run of the year for the Mariners to best his career-high mark of 79 from two years ago.

Our View: Lopez has proven that last season's sub par effort was the result of the off field issues that he dealt with including the death of his brother. Second baseman that hit .292 with 14 home runs and 80 RBI are still pretty valuable pieces even in this day and age of big offensive numbers, and therefore Lopez has been worthy of starting all year.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/13, 4:44 PM CT
Second baseman Jose Lopez returned to the team's lineup yesterday after being pulled during the middle of the game on Sunday after making an error, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Mangaer Jim Riggleman wanted to make sure Lopez understood that you have to focus at all times.

Our View: Lopez is one of the few viable fantasy players on Seattle's team, so owners are happy to see there will be no long-term consequences.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 8/2, 12:10 AM CT
Jose Lopez extended hit hitting streak to 19 games on Friday night as he went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Our View: A .306 average for guy who plays second base and was a late round pick is great value. Lopez is proving that last years regressing was due to off field family issues and not the result of pitchers figuring him out.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/29, 11:12 PM CT
The Mariners may have been frustrated with the end result, falling 11-10 against the Rangers, but the burst of offense was reason for optimism. Second baseman Jose Lopez was a force for the cause, going 3-for-5 with his eighth homer of the season, posting one RBI and three runs scored along the way.

Our View: Lopez is enjoying solid success at the plate this month, hitting .303 with 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored through July.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/28, 10:53 PM CT
Jose Lopez was 2-for-4 on Monday and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.

Our View: His average is up to .301 and he is hitting fifth in the Mariners lineup. He has 57 RBI on the year and is having his best season yet. At just 24-years old, it appears Lopez is the real deal and should be a solid fantasy contributor at his position for years to come.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSaturday 7/26, 2:59 PM CT
The Mariners failed to find the offense needed, despite matching the Blue Jays in the hit column, and suffered the 8-3 loss to Toronto despite a strong day from second baseman Jose Lopez . Lopez went 2-for-4 with his 27th double and seventh homer of the season to drive in all three runs for the Jays.

Our View: Lopez is now hitting .299 on the season, riding the fun of a 13-game hit streak.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:19 PM CT
Jose Lopez extended hit personal hitting streak to 11-games on Monday as he went 2-for-6 with a run scored for the Mariners.

Our View: Lopez continues to produce solid numbers with a .297 average, six home runs and 52 RBI, and though he isn't a sexy name or a big time contributor, he has proven to be a reliable option up the middle this season.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/20, 11:46 PM CT
Jose Lopez was the Mariners big bat on Friday night as he had three hits and four RBI in the 10-2 victory over the Braves.

Our View: Lopez is hitting .295 with 39 RBI in his attempt to make us all forget his dreadful second half to the 2007 season that included terrible performance on the field, and personal tragedy off it.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/18, 12:12 AM CT
The Mariners put the 5-4 win on the board in interleague action against the Marlins tonight, led by second baseman Jose Lopez . Lopez went 2-for-5 with two doubles, posting two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View: Lopez is starting to heat up a bit, hitting .288 through June with three home runs and seven RBIs (after hitting no homers with nine RBIs through May).
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/2, 11:51 PM CT
Jose Lopez went 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI double on Monday night. Unfortunately, he accounted for all two of the Mariners' runs against the Angels.

Our View: What's new? Lopez is hitting pretty well out of the No. 2 hole this year, but the Mariners rarely hit well as a team.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/18, 10:53 PM CT
Jose Lopez had three RBI on Sunday to push his season total to 24 from the second base position for the Mariners.

Our View: Lopez, who hit third today, is batting .307 on the year and has done a great job putting the bat on the ball with only 11 K. However, he swings at everything as evidenced by his five walks, so he will likely need to improve that eye if he wants to keep his average around the .300 mark.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 8:13 AM CT
The Mariners moved Jose Lopez from second to fifth in the batting order on Saturday. "I thought we needed some more punch in the middle of the lineup, that's why I moved Lopez down," manager John McLaren tells the Seattle Times.

Our View: Punch? Lopez's career slugging percentage is .380, and he's swatted two homers this year. The second baseman was doing a nice job in the two hole, and we can only hope this move doesn't get him off track.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/15, 9:34 PM CT
Jose Lopez became the 12th player in major league history to hit three sacrifice flies in a game. Seattle put a 11-6 beat down on the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Our View: Lopez finished the game 1-for-2 with four RBI. Incredibly, the M's second baseman has 13 RBI in 15 games so far this year.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/2, 11:48 PM CT
Jose Lopez enjoyed a nice evening at the ballpark in support of Seattle's 4-1 win over the Texas Rangers. Lopez went 1-for-4 at the plate, hitting his first home run of the season in the 5th inning off Jason Jennings with two on and two out.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/31, 10:36 PM CT
Jose Lopez was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the Mariners home opening win over the Rangers. Lopez, only garners AL attention, but has the potential to find his way into mixed formats as a middle infielder with any April success.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/31, 10:20 AM CT
Jose Lopez has nailed down the number two spot in the Mariners' batting order, according to MLB.com. Manager McLaren stated, "I think he's grown up a lot," McLaren said. "I think he's ready to handle it. He's got some pop in his bat, he's got bat control, he can hit behind the runner. He came into camp with such a great attitude. I feel good about Jose." Lopez hit .252 in 2007.
Jose Lopez, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/26, 10:00 AM CT
Jose Lopez has been spending time in the second spot of the batting order this spring, and the Mariners may stick with that role. "We're thinking about it strongly, I think that's safe to say," manager John McLaren tells the Seattle Times. "He's hit behind the runner. He's swinging at more strikes.
