Jason Simontacchi had a small bone spur removed from his pitching elbow, the AP reports. He's expected to need three to four months to recover.

Jason Simontacchi wants a second opinion on his ailing right elbow before getting a second cortisone shot. He will fly to Alabama on Thursday to be examined by Dr. James Andrews. "It scares you, because I've never had a problem with my elbow before. So I don't know what to expect," Simontacchi said in the AP. "It hasn't gotten any better, it hasn't gotten any worse. But it doesn't make any sense for me to go out there when I'm 75 percent or whatever."

Jason Simontacchi, who was scratched from his Friday start with tendinitis in his right elbow, was placed on the disabled list, according to the AP. The move is retroactive to July 13. Billy Traber started in place of Simontacchi on Friday, and he could remain in the rotation while Simontacchi is sidelined.

Jason Simontacchi will not make his scheduled start on Friday. He's dealing with some tendinitis in his right elbow, according to the AP. We'll have to wait for an update on the severity of his ailment, but look for Billy Traber to take the mound in Simontacchi's stead Friday.

The Nationals will purchase the contract of Jason Simontacchi from Triple-A Columbus and start him against the Brewers on Tuesday, according to the AP. He was 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA in two starts with Columbus.

Jason Simontacchi is expected to require one more rehab start before coming off the disabled list, according to the Washington Post. He tested his strained groin by working five innings for Triple-A Columbus on Friday. "He threw the ball real good," manager Manny Acta said. "He topped out at 92 [mph] and had to cover first base a couple of times. He's more polished than anyone in our rotation."

Jason Simontacchi will pitch five innings for Triple-A Columbus on Friday as he works his way back from a strained groin, the Washington Post reports. GM Jim Bowden said the team would evaluate whether Simontacchi needed one more minor league start after that.

It's the second consecutive missed start for Simontacchi. His bullpen session scheduled Friday was postponed, even as he says the groin is 80 percent healed.
