Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 10/1, 11:03 PM CT
Ervin Santana will pitch out of the bullpen in the first round of the playoffs, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Santana has thrown two shutouts and posted a 3.18 ERA since August 1, but not been as consistent as John Lackey, Joe Saunders, Scott Kazmir and Jered Weaver this season. The decision seems dubious in light of Santana's recent success, but the Angels usually know what they are doing.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 9/28, 11:52 PM CT
Ervin Santana allowed seven hits over nine scoreless innings in Monday's 11-0 win over the Rangers at Angel Stadium. He had one walk with two strikeouts.

Our View: Santana evened his record to 8-8, and recorded his second complete game and shutout. He allowed two or less earned runs in three of his six starts this month.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 9/17, 8:55 PM CT
Ervin Santana pitched seven innings of three-run ball at Fenway Park on Thursday, as the Angels rebounded from an ugly loss to beat the Red Sox 4-3.

Our View: After a truly disastrous first half to 2009, Santana has pitched pretty effectively since the beginning of August, going 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA in nine starts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 9/12, 7:02 PM CT
Ervin Santana allowed only three runs in seven innings on Saturday (two earned), but took a no-decision, as Los Angeles lost 4-3 to the White Sox in ten innings at home.

Our View: Santana has finally found a groove after a mostly disastrous 2009, and could find himself a spot in the Angels' postseason rotation if he hurls a few more quality starts down the stretch.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 9/7, 5:39 PM CT
Ervin Santana was roughed up for five runs (four earned) on nine hits over 5.2 innings in Monday's 6-3 loss at Kansas City. He had two walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: Santana now has a losing record at 7-8, and is winless over his last three starts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/1, 11:53 PM CT
Ervin Santana only surrendered one earned run on five hits over six innings in Tuesday's 2-1 loss at Seattle. He had one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Santana pitched well tonight, but was forced to take a no-decision due to poor run support from his teammates. He went 4-1 with a 3.27 ERA over five starts last month, and looks to remain solid in September.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/28, 12:24 AM CT
Ervin Santana pitched well in Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Athletics at Angel Stadium, as he only allowed two earned runs on eight hits over six innings. He had two walks and fired six strikeouts.

Our View: Santana was dealt a loss due to no run support from his teammates, and falls to 7-7 for the season. He allowed three or less earned runs in each of his last four starts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 8/22, 3:18 PM CT
Aside from allowing a three-run Adam Lind home run, Ervin Santana was solid on Saturday, pitching six effective innings as the Angels won 7-3 in Toronto.

Our View: Santana has suddenly reeled off four decent starts, and should be snapped up immediately if his original owner dropped him in disgust during his epic struggles earlier this season.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 8/17, 9:22 PM CT
Ervin Santana gave up three earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Monday's 8-5 win at Baltimore. He had one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: Santana improved his record to an even 6-6, and has collected a win in each of his last three starts. He is pitching well this month after holding a poor 7.16 ERA over six starts in July.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/11, 11:26 PM CT
Ervin Santana was dominant in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Rays at Angel Stadium, as he only surrendered three hits over nine scoreless innings. He had two walks with six strikeouts.

Our View: Santana collected his first complete game and shutout of the season, and bounced back after allowing four or more earned runs in each of his previous four starts. Hopefully he will pitch well for fantasy owners down the stretch.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/6, 4:48 PM CT
Ervin Santana picked up the win on Thursday despite allowing four runs in six innings pitched. Santana gave up five hits and walked five while striking out seven.

Our View: Another outing filled with with Santana giving up runs and striking out hitters, but today it translated into a win thanks to a hot offense. Santana is still a risky fantasy play, but if he keeps striking huys out it may be worth the risk considering he plays for a good team in LA.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/31, 10:51 PM CT
Ervin Santana was tagged for five earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Friday's 11-5 win at Minnesota. He had two walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Minnesota was leading 5-2 when Santana exited, so he takes a no-decision for his poor performance. He gave up 11 earned runs over his previous two starts heading into tonight, and looks to remain an unstable fantasy option for his next turn in the Angels' rotation.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 7/26, 6:20 PM CT
Ervin Santana was awful again on Sunday, allowing six earned runs in just 3.2 innings. The Angels weren't able to recover, as they lost 10-1 to the Twins at home.

Our View: It's time to face the facts--Santana, no matter how good his 2008 season was, just doesn't belong on your fantasy roster at this point. His 7.29 ERA and 1.71 WHIP are some of the worst in the American League, and he has allowed fewer than five runs just four times in 11 starts. Of course it is possible that he could rebound and start pitching well again, but that promise doesn't outstrip the damage he's currently doing to your team.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/21, 7:20 PM CT
Ervin Santana gave up five earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Tuesday's 8-5 win at Kansas City. He had one walk and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: It was not a solid performance for Santana, but the Angels provided enough offensive firepower for him to collect his third win of the season. Fantasy owners should be pleased that he snapped a three-game losing streak as well.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/21, 10:33 AM CT
Ervin Santana is scheduled to face-off against the Royals' Sidney Ponson in the first game of the doubleheader between the Angels and Royals on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:10 EST.

Our View: Today was Santana's scheduled day to pitch, so he should be just fine tonight. Ponson was supposed to start the game that got rained out last night, and now he finds himself facing off against Santana.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 7/16, 11:48 PM CT
Ervin Santana was dominant on Thursday night, allowing just three hits over eight innings as the Angels beat the A's 6-2 in Oakland. It was only Santana's third quality start of the season.

Our View: Santana appeared to be "back" when he went 8.2 innigns on June 5 too, however, so don't proclaim him to be the old Ervin just yet. Still, his performance was encouraging nonetheless (even if it was against Oakland), and you should start him his next time out no matter what.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/14, 10:58 AM CT
The LA Times is reporting that the Angels have set their rotation to begin the second half of the season. Ervin Santana will pitch on Thursday, followed by Joe Saunders, Jared Weaver, and John Lackey.

Our View: The break came at a good time for Santana, as he has been terrible lately. Hopefully he can turn it around in the second half, but until he shows signs of improvement fantasy owners should stay far away.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 7/9, 12:09 AM CT
Ervin Santana got bombed again on Wednesday, allowing three home runs and five earned runs in just four innings of work, as the Rangers pasted Anaheim 8-1.

Our View: Worse yet, two of the home runs were to Andruw Jones. Santana has looked nothing like the pitcher that went 16-7 with over 200 strikeouts in 2008, and should be held out of your starting lineup for the foreseeable future. He seems eons away from figuring things out, and will only do more harm than good if you keep starting him.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/4, 12:09 AM CT
In his return to action on Friday night, Ervin Santana was promptly rocked by the Orioles. He allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks over just five inning. He was took the loss as the Angels fell 6-4.

Our View: Santana hasn't been a semblance of the pitcher he was last season, and this had to dampen the spirits of the Angels faithful. They got a boost with his return, but the results of his performance were disheartening. He's probably safer on your bench until he puts it together again.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/3, 8:34 PM CT
As expected, the Angels activated pitcher Ervin Santana from the disabled list. He gets the start tonight against the Orioles.

Our View: Santana has been on the DL since June 11 with an inflammation in his right triceps. He hasn't been very effective this season in six starts prior to landing on the DL, but the Angels are hoping he shows his 2008 form now that he's healthy.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/1, 7:28 PM CT
Ervin Santana could return to the Angels' rotation Friday, according to MLB.com. Santana fired 45 pitches in a tune-up outing on Sunday against minor league hitters in Arizona to convince the Angels' brass that he's ready to return to action.

Our View: Santana has not started a game since June 11 while recovering from right triceps inflammation. If he returns Friday, Matt Palmer will start Saturday night. Sean O'Sullivan would move to a middle relief role as well, if he is not sent down to Triple-A.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 6/30, 9:08 AM CT
The LA Times is reporting that Angels' pitcher Ervin Santana has rejoined the team in Texas after his rehab outing on Sunday. Santana is said to be feeling no ill-effects from his last start, and it is expected that he will return to the rotation this weekend.

Our View: Santana is scheduled to throw a bullpen session under the watchful eye of the Angels' coaching staff on Wednesday, and assuming all goes well he is expected to start this weekend. Santana owners should be ready to activate him, and considering his first start back is expected to be against the Orioles, you may want to get him in right away.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 6/29, 8:36 AM CT
According to MLB.com, injured Angels' starter Ervin Santana threw a successful rehab start on Sunday night and has pronounced himself ready to return to the Angels' rotation. Santana faced 13 batters and allowed three hits while striking out seven.

Our View: The Angels want to see how he is feeling today, but all signs point to a return this week for Santana. He was said to have looked very good in the start, so we will keep you updated on his status with the team as the week goes on. If you are a Santana owner, you should be prepared to activate him soon.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/26, 8:57 PM CT
Ervin Santana threw a successful bullpen session Friday while recovering from right triceps inflammation, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: Santana has been out of action since June 11, and is optimistic of returning to the Angels' rotation in a little bit over a week. He will continue his rehab in Arizona Sunday.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 6/22, 11:19 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Angels are concerned with Ervin Santana's ailing right elbow, according to the Orange County Register. Skipper Mike Scioscia said, "You are always concerned when you have a pitcher as talented as Ervin and he has an issue with his elbow."

Our View: The Angels believe Santana can return to their rotation as soon as early July, but are not certain. Sean O'Sullivan will take his next turn in the rotation Tuesday against Colorado, and is worth targeting in AL-only leagues.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 6/22, 6:52 PM CT
Ervin Santana has been placed on the 15-day DL with his strained forearm, according to the Orange County Register. He felt discomfort a while after throwing a bullpen session Sunday.

Our View: The move is retroactive to June 12, and he is eligible to be activated as early as Friday. Sean O'Sullivan will start Tuesday's game against the Rockies.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/19, 8:56 PM CT
Ervin Santana, who is recovering from a strained forearm, threw off flat ground Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Santana felt very good after throwing, and may return to the Angels' rotation Tuesday against the Rockies at Angel Stadium. He will throw a bullpen session on Sunday.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/17, 8:31 AM CT
According to the LA Times Ervin Santana had an MRI on his injured elbow and forearm and the test showed no abnormalities.

Our View: This is obviously good news for the Angels, but the elbow could still be a problem for Santana. He will avoid surgery, but still has yet to play catch and doesn't know if the tightness that caused him to miss his last start will flare up again. Don't forget he missed the first six weeks of the season due to an elbow ligament strain. However, the team is hopeful that he will be back on track and ready to start against the Rockies on June 23rd. Stay tuned.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 6/15, 6:48 PM CT
Ervin Santana will miss at least one start after feeling tightness in his right forearm during his last outing, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: Sean O'Sullivan is expected to take Santana's next turn in the rotation. Santana received an MRI today, and the Angels are awaiting the results. The team will not need him to pitch again until June 23 due to open dates in the schedule.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 6/11, 10:47 PM CT
Ervin Santana was lit up for six earned runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings in Thursday's 11-1 loss at Tampa Bay. He had two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Santana's ERA climbs to 7.47, and he falls to 1-3 over six starts. He looks to remain an unstable fantasy option for his next trip to the hill.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/5, 8:55 PM CT
Ervin Santana was in control from the hill in Friday's 2-1 win at Detroit, as he only allowed one earned run on six hits over 8.2 innings. He had two walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Santana claimed his first win of the season over five starts. He should continue to get stronger with each start.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/31, 9:09 PM CT
Ervin Santana got rocked to the tune of eight runs off 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings against Seattle on Sunday.

Our View: Santana was able to escape the loss after the Angels staged a ninth-inning comeback, but that doesn't erase the fact that he's been completely shelled his past two outings after looking alright in his first two back from the DL. Santana still has fine potential should he regain his form from last season and should probably be held onto, though you shouldn't think about starting him until he gets back on track.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/25, 11:37 PM CT
Ervin Santana retired only three of the 13 batters he faced in Monday's 17-3 loss to the White Sox. He gave up seven runs on eight hits and a walk in his third start of the season.

Our View: Santana obviously did not have it tonight. He looked fairly good in his first two outings and should rebound from this performance his next time out. Stick with him for now.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/20, 9:16 AM CT
Ervin Santana will be asked to raise his count to around 90 pitches for his second start since coming off the DL with his elbow ailment, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View: He allowed three earned runs on seven hits in his first outing that lasted five innings. Santana, who won 16 games with a 1.12 WHIP in 2008, will continue to get stronger with each start, and is worth employing in fantasy lineups for his next trip to the hill.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 5/14, 7:12 PM CT
Ervin Santana was just average in his first start of the season on Thursday as the Angels beat the Red Sox in 12 innings. Santana went five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five.

Our View: Not bad for his first start, but he was a little rusty. Santana should only improve as he gets stronger and as he gets used to pitching in the majors again. He should be started in all leagues at this point unless he begins to struggle.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 5/14, 2:20 PM CT
As expected, Ervin Santana has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a sprained elbow, according to TSN.

Our View: He will make his first start of the season tonight against the Red Sox. He is 1-2 with a 5.73 ERA over four career starts against Boston.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/13, 9:50 AM CT
Ervin Santana is slated to make his first start of 2009 Thursday against the Red Sox, according to the Orange County Register. He has been recovering from a sprained elbow.

Our View: Santana nailed down 16 wins last season, with a solid 3.49 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. He will draw a tough assignment in his first game back, but will be worth employing in fantasy lineups right away.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/9, 8:56 AM CT
Ervin Santana is slated to make another rehab start this weekend, and could return to the Angels' rotation five days later if he fares fine, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Santana won 16 games with a 1.12 WHIP in 2008, and will provide a boost to the Angels' ailing rotation if healthy. Santana is worth acquiring if dangling on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 5/5, 9:16 AM CT
Ervin Santana's rehab start at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Monday didn't go well (he allowed a pair of homers in 4.2 innings), but the important thing is that he felt no pain in his elbow, according to the LA Daily News. "Today is fine," Santana said. "Let's see how it feels tomorrow."

Our View: Santana is expected to make one more rehab start, and if that goes well, he will then rejoin the Halos.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/30, 10:31 PM CT
Ervin Santana (elbow) is tentatively scheduled to start at Triple-A in a rehab game on Monday, according to the Orange County Register. He will make two or three starts before rejoining the Angels rotation.

Our View: It sounds like Santana will be back in two weeks barring any setbacks. He should be a fantasy factor in mixed leagues if he's anywhere nearly as effective as he was a season ago when he went 16-7 with a 3.49 ERA.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 4/29, 9:09 AM CT
Ervin Santana (elbow) will throw 45-to-50 pitches in an extended spring training game on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times confirms. He tossed 24 pitches in his previous outing.

Our View: Santana could begin a minor league rehab assignment next week. We would expect him to need at least two starts, if not three or four, in the minors before jumping back to the majors.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/25, 8:02 AM CT
Ervin Santana continues to proceed as expected in his return from an elbow injury, according to the Orange County Register. He threw 24 pitches in extended spring training on Friday and reportedly felt very good about the outing.

Our View: Santana continues to look like he will be back with the Angels by mid-May. He will make one more outing in extended spring before heading to the minor league rehab stint.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/16, 8:51 AM CT
The Los Angeles Times reports that Ervin Santana threw off of a mound on Wednesday and reported no discomfort afterwards. "Ervin went after it hard and threw very well off a mound," manager Mike Scioscia said. "We're very pleased." The starter is recovering from an elbow injury.

Our View: It appears that Santana will be back by mid-May and possibly sooner. We'll be following his bullpens and rehab assignment to keep an eye out for any red flags, but there's a good shot that he will be a solid fantasy contributor again before too long.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 4/12, 12:12 PM CT
Manager Mike Scioscia indicated that Ervin Santana has completed his long-toss program and will start throwing off a mound in a few days, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Santana could return to the Angels' rotation in early-May, barring a setback in his recovery from a right elbow injury.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 4/7, 10:22 AM CT
Ervin Santana, who is recovering from a right elbow injury, played catch off flat ground Monday and is around a week away from pitching off a mound, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: Barring a setback, Santana could start a rehab assignment in around two weeks.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/25, 4:27 PM CT
Ervin Santana says that his right elbow injury is progressing nicely and that he shouldn't miss more than a month of action, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Santana would not be the first pitcher to over estimate his return to action, so we are not ready to take him at his word. He certainly still has great value and upside, but now it maybe too risky to take him in the top-2o pitcher category.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 3/9, 8:34 AM CT
Ervin Santana will open the 2009 campaign on the disabled list due to his elbow ailment, according to ESPN. An MRI scan linked discomfort in his pitching elbow to a sprained MCL. Skipper Mike Scioscia said, "We will slow him down, let the stuff in his elbow calm down, and go from there. We do not anticipate that it is the sort of setback that will cost him an appreciable part of the season."

Our View: If healthy, Santana would be worth drafting as a top-20 fantasy hurler, but he is now a risky prospect due to uncertainty regarding his elbow.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 3/8, 12:30 PM CT
Ervin Santana will miss the start of the 2009 campaign due to his elbow ailment, according to the Orange County Register. Santana underwent an MRI, but results are yet to be revealed. Skipper Mike Scioscia said, "We do not anticipate it being anything that is going to sit him down for an appreciable time during the season."

Our View: If healthy, Santana would be worth drafting as a top-20 fantasy hurler, but he is now a risky prospect due to uncertainty regarding his elbow.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 3/6, 12:38 PM CT
Ervin Santana's spring debut may be pushed back as he is dealing with arm tightness, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The Angels did not display any indication that the ailment is serious. As of now, Santana should continue to be drafted as a top-20 fantasy hurler.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 2/14, 12:04 PM CT
Ervin Santana has agreed to a four-year extension with the Angels, according to Sports Illustrated. The contract includes an option for a fifth year, and the deal is believed to be worth at least $30MM.

Our View: He should be drafted as a top-20 fantasy pitcher for 2009, and should be a solid source for wins and an ever better source for strikeouts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 2/13, 5:55 PM CT
The Associated Press reports that starting pitcher Ervin Santana's arbitration hearing with the Angels Friday has been postponed and will be rescheduled for next week, unless the two sides come together on a deal between now and then.

Our View: Fully expect Santana and the Angels to eliminate their $725,000 impasse without the use of a hearing. It's a no-brainer both sides would prefer getting this settled for spring training starts to gear up.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 2/2, 2:47 PM CT
Ervin Santana and the Angels are $725,000 apart with no progress on a new deal with an arbitration hearing coming later this month, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Santana requested $4,325,000, and the 26-year-old hurler would be worth it as he handled 219 innings in 2008, with a strong 1.12 WHIP.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 1/21, 11:05 AM CT
Ervin Santana is asking for $4.325 million from the Angels in arbitration, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: The Angels countered with an offer of $3.6 million. No matter what, the team is getting a hell of a bargain for a hurler who threw 219 innings with a WHIP of 1.12.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 9/27, 11:22 PM CT
In his last start before the playoffs, Ervin Santana went 5.2 innings giving up eight runs on 10 hits. The Angels fell to the Rangers 8-4 on Saturday night.

Our View: The loss was Santana's seventh loss of the year and he has also given up at least one run in his last 11 out of 12 starts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 9/22, 11:56 PM CT
Ervin Santana dominated the Mariners on Monday night holding them to but a single run in eight innings of action. Francisco Rodriguez finished off the 2-1 victory for his 61st save.

Our View: Santana improved to 16-6 while lowering his ERA to 3.25 thanks to striking out nine batters without allowing a single walk. Overall he has 209 K and has earned the respect of all fantasy gamers as one of the top arms in the American League.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/21, 8:46 AM CT
Angels pitcher Ervin Santana clearly enjoys working with catcher Jeff Mathis instead of Mike Napoli, as Santana is 13-4 with a 2.98 ERA with Mathis behind the plate, and just 2-1 with a 4.68 ERA with Napoli at catcher, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View: Santana has had a brilliant season, but clearly performs better with Mathis catching. Nonetheless, the big right-hander has 15 wins and 200 strikeouts in 205.1 innings on the year, much to the benefit of fantasy owners.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/14, 6:03 PM CT
Ervin Santana worked seven strong innings on Sunday as he held the Mariners to two runs on six hits and a walk in a no-decision.

Our View: After a rough turn last time out (five runs allowed), Santana looked much better on this day though he struck out just three batters, his lowest total since June 2nd, though he did record number 200 on the afternoon.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/9, 11:50 PM CT
Ervin Santana couldn't hold down the Yankees on Tuesday night. He allowed eight hits and six runs (five earned) over 6.1 innings. Santana walked one, struck out six, hit a batter, and served up two homers.

Our View: Santana had been in a good groove since the start of August, but he ran into a tough Yankees lineup. This poor outing can't ruin what has been a breakout season for the right-hander.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 9/4, 2:44 PM CT
Ervin Santana held the Tigers to one run over 7.1 innings while striking out eight to help lead the Angels to a 7-1 victory. He picked up his 15th win in the process.

Our View: Santana continued his great season with this performance, and he has not lost a game since July 27. At 3.23, his ERA is the lowest it's been since June 20.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/29, 11:46 PM CT
Ervin Santana only surrendered one earned run on five hits over eight innings in Friday's 3-1 win over the Rangers, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Santana claimed his 14th win of the season, and got back on track after leaving with a no decision in each of his previous three outings.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 8/24, 11:38 AM CT
Ervin Santana tries for win No. 14 when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim wrap up a four-game series with the Minnesota Twins this afternoon at Angel Stadium, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Santana, an All-Star for the first time this season, has been a pleasant surprise for the AL West-leading Angels in 2008, having gone 13-5 with a 3.39 earned run average. Santana had been sent to Triple-A for a time last season due to ineffectiveness following a career-best 16 wins in 2006. The 25-year-old right-hander was good enough to get a win on Tuesday in Tampa Bay, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 4-2 loss despite surrendering just a run and four hits in seven innings. Santana defeated the Twins the last time he faced them and is 2-1 lifetime against Minnesota with a 3.42 ERA in four starts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/19, 8:52 PM CT
Ervin Santana was brilliant again on Tuesday, but the bullpen blew his lead. The right-hander held the Rays to four hits and one run over seven innings. He also struck out nine batters.

Our View: Fantasy owners would have liked the win, but we'll take the ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/1, 9:14 PM CT
Ervin Santana shutout the Yankees for eight innings before being replaced by Francisco Rodriguez who finished off the Yankees for his 45th save of the season in the Angels 1-0 victory over the Yanks.

Our View: Santana improved to 12-5 with his masterful performance that included eight strikeouts and just two walks in his first win in three tries since the All-Star break.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/22, 12:02 AM CT
Ervin Santana fell to 11-4 with a loss against the Indians on Monday night. The right-hander allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned) over seven innings. He walked none, struck out eight, and allowed two homers.

Our View: Santana didn't have his best stuff, but he pitched well enough to win. The offense didn't have his back on Monday, but Ervin remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/15, 9:19 PM CT
Ervin Santana threw one inning for the American League All-Stars, and while he struck out two players, he also allowed a home run Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday.

Our View: Santana showed his stuff, but lost one to Holliday, who showed his power by blasting a shot to the opposite field.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/12, 11:27 PM CT
Angels RHP Ervin Santana continues to work as one of the most dominating arms in the game, tonight putting the brakes on the Oakland A's to bring the 4-1 win to LA. Santana pitched seven innings, allowing no runs on five hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 7/7, 11:24 PM CT
Ervin Santana allowed six runs on 10 hits, walked two and struck out six, and the Angels scored a 9-6 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday night.

Our View: Santana wasn't at his best for the second straight outing and concerns remain that his split nail is affecting his command. He was, however, good enough to earn his 10th win of the season against three losses.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/2, 12:06 AM CT
Angels ace Ervin Santana failed to get the win in tonight's 5-3 victory over Oakland, but not due to a lack of effort. Santana pitched seven innings to surrender two runs (both earned) on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Fantasy owners will be happy to hear Santana failed to surrender a homer and he continues to add to his already-gaudy strikeout/walk ratio. A win would have been nice, but the offensive support wasn't there.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/25, 9:21 PM CT
Ervin Santana struck out eight Nationals on Wednesday, but he allowed four runs over six innings to pick up a no-decision.

Our View: Santana walked a season high five batters on the night as he had trouble locating his pitches on the night. Still, you can't be upset with a 9-3 record and 3.32 ERA at the season's mid point.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/25, 2:34 PM CT
Ervin Santana gets the start for the Angels tonight against the offensively challenged Washington Nationals in a favorable match-up. He has six wins and a 3.10 ERA on the road this season.

Our View: Aside from Santana's road record, he faces a Nationals lineup that features just three regulars hitting over .270. The Nats are last in the majors in batting average, runs, hits, RBI and slugging percentage.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/20, 9:27 PM CT
Ervin Santana dominated the Phillies on Friday night on his way to picking up his ninth win of the year. Santana allowed just one run, unearned, while giving up two hits, two walks and striking out nine.

Our View: Just when it looks like he is going to regress into the enigma he has been, he rebounds with an effort like this one. No one's a sure thing, but it's clear that this hurler has arrived.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/20, 2:59 PM CT
Ervin Santana will battle the Phillies at Philadelphia today, according to MLB.com. Santana is 8-3 with a 3.40 ERA and 1.08 WHIP this season, and this will be his first meeting against the Phillies.

Our View: Santana surrendered six earned runs in his last start (against Atlanta), but only allowed two in each of his previous three outings. He is worth starting, despite a tough game on the road.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 6/14, 11:29 PM CT

Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 6/8, 8:01 PM CT

Ervin Santana won his eighth game of the season on Monday by silencing the anemic Mariners. He held the AL West foe to six hits and two runs over 7.2 innings. Santana walked one, struck out three, and lowered his ERA to 3.02.

Our View: It's nice to see Santana bounce back in his recent two outings after hitting a rough patch. He has clearly matured this season, and fantasy owners are enjoying the ride.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/28, 12:08 AM CT
He now sits at 7-2 on the season after dominating the Detroit Tigers for all but three pitches, and that ranks Angels RHP Ervin Santana as one of the top pitchers in the league thus far. Santana threw the complete game this evening as the Angels finally picked up the offense in the 8th and 9th innings to support his performance, winning over Detroit 3-2. Santana finished with two runs allowed (both earned on one Miguel Cabrera homer) on three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Santana carries a resulting 3.09 ERA with a dominating rebound from consecutive losses.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 5/22, 9:05 PM CT

Our View: This is just his second loss of the season, bringing Santana to 6-2. However, it is his second loss in a row.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 5/22, 1:26 PM CT
Joe Saunders was taken down by cold-like symptoms, so Ervin Santana has moved up in the rotation to start tonight against the Blue Jays, according to MLB.com. Manager Mike Sciosca said this about Saunders, "Joe was pretty worn out today. We want to give him a day to recoup, get some fluids in him. We want to get Santana ready to pitch and let Saunders play this thing out. Hopefully, he'll be ready to go Friday in Chicago against the White Sox."

Our View: Santana is 6-1 with a solid 2.97 ERA and 1.01 WHIP and will be pitching on regular rest, as the team had Monday off.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/21, 11:44 PM CT

Our View: With Monday's day off, Santana will be going on regular rest.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/17, 7:35 PM CT
Ervin Santana, who was coming off his worst outing of the season, gave up four runs on five hits in six innings in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers. He walked three, hit a batter and struck out five.

Our View: The Angels' right-hander was tagged for nine hits and five runs in 5.2 innings at Tampa Bay last Sunday, but was not involved in the decision.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/17, 2:14 PM CT
Ervin Santana will aim to remain unbeaten when the Angels host the Dodgers today, according to MLB.com. Santana is 6-0 with a 2.63 ERA and stellar 0.97 WHIP over eight starts.

Our View: Santana is 2-2 in four career outings against the Dodgers with a 3.42 ERA. He was 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA against them in 2007. Santana should enjoy another solid outing at home, where four of his six wins have come this season.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 3:45 PM CT
Ervin Santana didn't move to 7-0 on Sunday, and he was lucky not to take a loss. He allowed three runs in the first inning and left after serving up nine hits and five runs over 5.2 frames. Santana walked one, struck out seven, and took a no-decision.

Our View: Sunday was Santana's worst outing of the season, but fantasy owners can't be too mad. Considering the preseason expectations, Ervin can have a few shaky outings and still look like a star.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/5, 9:53 PM CT
Ervin Santana won his sixth straight game on Monday night with complete-game four-hit shutout against the Royals. Santana allowed four hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out nine.

Our View: Santana has turned the corner. He was dominating with his 95 mph fastball and the Royals never really threatened in the game.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/5, 3:34 PM CT
Ervin Santana will look to remain unbeaten when he takes the mound against the Royals tonight, according to MLB.com. He was 0-2 with a 6.35 ERA in two starts against Kansas City last season.

Our View: Santana is 5-0 with a 2.48 ERA and excellent 0.98 WHIP over 40 innings, with 29 strikeouts. Santana has only allowed three runs over his last five starts, and should remain in your lineups while he's hot.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 4/30, 11:47 PM CT
Ervin Santana picked up his fifth win of the season as he held the A's to only one unearned run over 6.2 innings on Wednesday night.

Our View: Santana continues to operate at a level of consistency that has been totally foreign to his career up until this point. He is trusting his stuff and throwing strikes, and as long as he does that he should continue to be productive.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 4/25, 8:03 AM CT
Ervin Santana will look to remain unbeaten when the Angels battle the Tigers at Comerica Park tonight, according to MLB.com. He is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA and a strong 0.96 WHIP. He is yet to win at Comerica however, as he holds a 0-2 mark.

Our View: Santana is displaying good control right now as he only allowed six walks over 27 innings, with 22 strikeouts. He has proven to be a fantasy steal in the early going as well, and should remain in your lineups.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/19, 10:25 PM CT
Ervin Santana continues to show why he should be a part of the Angels rotation all season as he limited the Mariners to three hits and one run over eight innings to improve to 3-0.

Our View: Santana walked none and struck out eight on the night as he lowered his ERA to 2.67. Always the possessor of a dynamic arm, Santana has avoided beating himself so far and the results have been spectacular.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 4/14, 10:28 PM CT
Ervin Santana picked up his second road win of the season by holding down the Rangers on Monday. The right-hander allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings. He also walked three and struck out six.

Our View: It's no mystery that Santana has good stuff. The youngster just needs to figure out how to be more consistent. He has been very solid in all three outings this year, which is an excellent sign.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 4/14, 2:05 PM CT
Ervin Santana, who will face the Rangers on the road tonight, has a poor track record in Texas, according to MLB.com. Santana is 1-4 with a 8.92 ERA over seven appearances on the Rangers' home field.

Our View: He is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA over two starts this season, but will have to right his luck to remain unbeaten.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/3, 3:38 PM CT
Ervin Santana earned the win in a close 5-4 battle against Minnesota on Thursday, as he only allowed two runs on four hits over six innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. He is off to a good start as he tries to bounce back from a weak 7-14 campaign in 2007.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 3/30, 9:46 AM CT
Ervin Santana is pitching well at just the right time. On Saturday, the hard-throwing right-hander shut down the Padres for five innings and finished his spring work with a record of 3-0. He recorded a modest 4.26 ERA -- and will start the season in the Angels rotation due to injuries to John Lackey and Kelvin Escobar.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/19, 5:07 PM CT
Ervin Santana threw six scoreless innings against Oakland on Wednesday, with only one hit allowed and five strikeouts. He moves to 2-0 for the spring and lowered his ERA to 5.49
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 2/16, 5:00 PM CT
Ervin Santana wasn't present for the first day of workouts but was expected to arrive sometime Saturday according to MLB.com. The fact that Kelvin Escobar (shoulder) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list means Santana and Joe Saunders will battle for the final slot in the rotation. Scioscia's knows that if Santana can maintain his delivery the way he did the first month and last month of the season, he has the potential to be special. In face the skipper believes, "...he has the potential to be a 20-game winner. He's got great stuff." Most experienced fantasy owners have been saying the same thing about Daniel Cabrera for three springs.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 2/15, 9:15 AM CT
Ervin Santana is expected to arrive a few days late to spring training because of visa issues, according to the LA Times. Given that Santana will compete with Joe Saunders for the fifth spot in the rotation, this news isn't completely irrelevant, as the righty needs to take advantage of every chance he gets on the mound. If Santana does lose out on the starting job, he'll probably begin the year in the bullpen.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 9/19, 7:41 AM CT
Ervin Santana will start Wednesday instead of Bartolo Colon, who developed back stiffness following his 4 2/3 innings Friday, the AP reports.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/2, 7:21 AM CT
It turns out that Ervin Santana will make his scheduled start Monday after all. It had been speculated that Dustin Moseley would replace Santana in that start after Santana was unable to make it out of the first inning in his last start, according to the LA Times. Pitching coach Mike Butcher thinks he found some mechanical flaws in Santana's delivery, so the Angels will give him one more shot to show improvement.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/30, 12:32 AM CT
Mike Scioscia said a decision is coming in the next couple of days on whether Ervin Santana will take his turn on Monday against Oakland, the AP reports. "We're talking about a couple of things," Scioscia said. The manager mentioned how good Dustin Moseley has been, most recently Tuesday when he held Seattle scoreless over 5 1/3 innings after Santana allowed five runs and got only one out. There is a slight chance Jered Weaver, who won Wednesday, could pitch Monday, but the Angels would rather have each of their starters slide back a day with extra rest following Thursday's off day.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/22, 10:21 AM CT
Ervin Santana will remain in the Angels starting rotation for the time being, making his next start on Thursday against Toronto, according to the LA Times. Santana was sharp in his last outing, holding the Red Sox to one run over 6 1/3 innings. He still has to be considered a risky fantasy investment, however.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/15, 5:54 AM CT
The Angels have yet to name their starter for the first game of Friday's doubleheader at Boston, but Mike Scioscia told the AP that Ervin Santana is a candidate. Santana was demoted to Triple-A Salt Lake after starting the season 5-11 with a 6.22 ERA. He's 2-1 with a 5.01 ERA in five starts at Triple-A. Remember that Santana was successful at home earlier in the year, but a disaster on the road. Given that, we can't imagine why the Angels would use Santana in a start at Fenway Park of all places, but apparently they're considering just that.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/2, 9:58 AM CT
Ervin Santana was hammered in his second straight Triple-A start on Wednesday, allowing six runs on 13 hits in six innings, according to the LA Times. In three Triple-A starts, the right-hander's ERA sits at 6.05. It's still possible that Santana could work his way back into the Angels rotation at some point, but that scenario is beginning to look less and less likely.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 7/26, 10:47 AM CT
The Angels are unlikely to recall Ervin Santana to take the injured Bartolo Colon's spot in the rotation. Santana was recently demoted after going 5-11 with a 6.22 ERA in 19 starts. He had a nice first start at Triple-A, allowing just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out six over seven innings. "We're not going to rule anything out yet, but he's making progress down there and we don't want to slow that down," manager Mike Scioscia told the LA Times.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/25, 10:24 AM CT
The Angels have yet to decide who will take the injured Bartolo Colon's spot in the rotation, but the recently demoted Ervin Santana is one possibility. "Right now we have a day off so we'll look at a couple of scenarios in our rotation," manager Mike Scioscia told the LA Times. "Ervin is an option, but we'll take this one step at a time." The Angels could also move reliever Dustin Moseley into the rotation. The team has an off day Thursday, so the most likely short-term scenario is probably to move Kelvim Escobar up to pitch Sunday. Escobar would be on regular rest.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/18, 3:42 PM CT
The Angels optioned Ervin Santana to Triple-A on Wednesday, according to Sports Ticker. Despite having a lot of promise, the right-hander holds a 6.22 ERA in 19 starts this year. Assuming he strings together some strong starts in the minors, we should see him back in the Angels rotation at some point this year. No announcement has been made, but Dustin Moseley and Joe Saunders are the most likely candidates to replace Santana in the rotation.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/18, 10:45 AM CT
Ervin Santana could be headed to the minor leagues. The right-hander gave up seven runs on 14 hits and four walks in last night's loss to the Devil Rays, the latest in a string of bad starts for the youngster. Santana has lost his last five decisions and holds an ERA of 10.04 over his last five outings. Although manager Mike Scioscia was noncommittal when asked whether Santana would make his next scheduled start Sunday, he did say "we're going to look at stuff," according to the LA Times. "There are some options we might look at moving forward, but we'll wait and evaluate some stuff and look at some video and see where we're going to go," the manager said. The Angels would likely replace Santana with either reliever Dustin Moseley or Triple-A starter Joe Saunders.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/14, 6:44 AM CT
A trip to Triple-A isn't imminent for Ervin Santana, but the Angels are growing impatient with his performances on the road, according to the LA Times. Since being called up in 2005, he's 21-6 with a 3.04 ERA at home and 9-15 with a 6.69 ERA on the road -- this season he's 0-4 with a 7.86 ERA away from home. "He's made progress in his bullpens, he just hasn't been able to carry it into a game yet," manager Mike Scioscia said of Santana. "I think he and Mike [Butcher, Angels pitching coach] have an understanding of what needs to get done. He has to go a little harder, be more aggressive and effective early in the game to set a tone."
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/12, 6:57 AM CT
To help Ervin Santana overcome his struggles on the road, Angels manager Mike Scioscia is considering having the pitcher extend his pregame warmups on the road into the top of the first inning to simulate the timing he'd have at home, when he goes straight from the bullpen to the mound, according to the LA Times . "We're going to talk to him about it before his next start," Scioscia said. "His home record is exceptional, and his road record is not what you'd expect. Is it the mound? His comfort level? Is there too much [down] time before the start of the game? We may have him warm up later and go from the bullpen to the mound."
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 3/11, 7:22 AM CT
Ervin Santana allowed five hits and walked two in three innings yesterday. He's been dealing with a stiff neck and control problems recently, according to the LA Times.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 11/28, 11:17 AM CT
The LA Times reports that the Angels and White Sox have discussed a trade that would send Ervin Santana and Chone Figgins to Chicago and Freddy Garcia and Joe Crede to LA. A deal is not imminent, and other players would likely be included should a deal get done.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 8/14, 7:07 AM CT
Ervin Santana was able to throw a light bullpen session and take fielding practice on Sunday, according to the LA Times. Knocked out of his last start when he was hit on his left knee by a line drive, Santana is expected to make his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Rangers.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 8/12, 8:34 AM CT
Ervin Santana, who was hit on the inside of his left knee with a line drive Thursday, said that he felt "a lot worse" Friday than he did Thursday, according to the LA Times. "Everything I do, it hurts a little bit," said Santana. "But I think I'm going to pitch on Tuesday." If Santana is unable to go Tuesday, either Kevin Gregg or Dustin Moseley will get the start.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/11, 11:51 PM CT
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Friday that Ervin Santana will probably be able to make his next start, according to the AP. Santana took a line drive off his left knee in his start on Thursday.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/11, 8:29 AM CT
Ervin Santana is confident that he will be able to make his next start after taking a liner off his left knee on Thursday, according to the L.A. Times. X-rays were negative, and Santana was diagnosed with a bruise. The Angels don't have any off days coming up, so they will need Santana - or someone else - to start on Tuesday.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/10, 8:10 PM CT
Ervin Santana left Thursday night's game in the first inning after taking a line drive off his left knee. He was taken for X-rays, and his status was not immediately known.
