Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 11/5, 2:05 PM CT
The Arizona Republic is reporting that the Diamondbacks have declined the option on Chad Tracy. Tracy would have made $7 million if the team would have picked up the option, but instead they decided to pay a $1 million buyout.

Our View: Not a big shocker here, as Tracy played in only 98 games last year and hit a miserable .237. He is coming off one of the worst years of his career, but someone could get a bargain if he can stay healthy for a full season.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 9/27, 8:07 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 3-for-4 with a home run in the Diamondbacks 7-4 win over the Padres on Sunday.

Our View: Tracy didn't have a hit in the entire month of September until Saturday night when he launched a pinch-hit grand slam. The he comes back the next day, collects three hits and rips another homer. Looks like the pending free agent is getting energized. Too little too late though, seeing as how we're at the tail end of the season's final month.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 9/26, 11:53 PM CT
Chad Tracy clubbed a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning Saturday to give the Diamondbacks an 8-5 win over the Padres.

Our View: Tracy's season has been a disappointment, as he's struggled with injuries and creating productive at-bats. Saturday's grand slam was a big hit, but it's also his only hit in the month of September. He looks to be a free agent at the end of the season, because Arizona would be foolish to pick up his $7 million option.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 9/26, 8:09 AM CT
Chad Tracy is expected to be a free agent after this season with Arizona highly unlikely to pick up his $7 million option for next year, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Our View: No surprise here, as Tracy has been a disappointment the past three seasons; since reaching 20 home runs for two-straight years from 2005-06, he's struggled to get on base, hasn't even reached double-digit home runs and, unless he plays each of Arizona's final eight games (which he won't), he'll have failed to reach 100 games played for the third-straight season. He's still young enough at 29 and is sure to be picked up by someone, though not for anywhere near that $7 million.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/30, 4:11 PM CT
Chad Tracy has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a strained oblique, according to the Associated Press. Leo Rosales was optioned to Triple-A Reno to make room on the roster.

Our View: Tracy was only hitting .203 with four homers over 39 games prior to going down, and is not worth penciling into fantasy lineups upon his return to Arizona.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 6/26, 10:00 AM CT
Chad Tracy is only days away from a return, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, his hitting while out on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno, 4-for-16, is very similar to his hitting before going down with a strained oblique on May 30, .203. He is not a good fantasy option.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 6/17, 9:41 AM CT
Chad Tracy is set to begin a rehab assignment this weekend and could rejoin the team later next week according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Tracy was struggling mightily before going on the DL at the end of May with a strained oblique and shouldn't be counted on for consistent production once he returns.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 6/11, 11:00 AM CT
Chad Tracy took batting practice in the cage on Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list on May 30 with an oblique strain according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: He says he could be ready to begin a rehab assignment by next week. Tracy has been a major disappointment for the Diamondbacks in 2009, batting just .203 with four home runs in 39 games. When he does come back, he could eventually be a fantasy option, but he is not worth an immediate add and likely won't be for some time.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 5/30, 2:18 PM CT
The Diamondbacks placed Chad Tracy on the 15-day DL due to an oblique strain and called up Josh Whitesell on Saturday, according to the AP. He suffered the injury while hitting a single in his final at bat on Friday night.

Our View: The injury comes at a poor time for Tracy as he was coming off a three-hit game that included a home run. Mark Reynolds will probably see more time at first, although Whitesell could also see some starts there.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 5/20, 7:54 PM CT
Chad Tracy had a big night at the plate on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI in the Diamondbacks' 8-6 loss to the Marlins.

Our View: Tracy, like almost every other D-Back hitter, has been pretty bad this season. He had a nice game tonight, but don't expect him to be much of a fantasy contributor this season. You should find another option if he is still on your team.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 4/29, 5:59 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI, and three runs scored as the Diamondbacks beat the Cubs 10-0 on Wednesday.

Our View: Tracy had just two hits in his last six games but he continues to see time in the three-hole. The D-Backs lineup got it going today, but they are still struggling most nights and as long as they do, Tracy will not hold much value in mixed leagues.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/6, 6:00 PM CT
Chad Tracy got the start at third base ahead of Mark Reynolds against right-hander Aaron Cook of the Rockies. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.

Our View: Tracy probably slipped through most fantasy drafts, but he is coming off of a hot spring and is obviously swinging a good bat. He will also have multi-position eligibility as he starts at first against left-handers and at third base against right-handers.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 3/26, 6:11 PM CT
Chad Tracy was 2-for-3 on Thursday with an RBI against the White Sox. He is hitting a blistering .419 this spring.

Our View: Tracy has had an impressive spring, but needs to stay healthy and show some consistency at the big league level if he's going to command any fantasy value outside of deep NL-only leagues.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 3/25, 11:17 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in Arizona's 8-5 loss to the Rangers.

Our View: Tracy is hitting well this spring but will have to prove to fantasy owners he has value. He could end up being a nice player in NL-only formats but he comes with some risk for sure due to his injury history.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 3/24, 9:47 PM CT
First baseman Chad Tracy tells the Arizona Republic that his right knee no longer enters his mind during games. "It's been awhile," he says. "Toward the end of last year, in some of the heated games when the adrenaline's going, you don't think about it. Right now it's spring training, and there's not a whole lot of adrenaline flowing, and I'm still not thinking about it." Tracy's knee began to be a problem in 2007, and he underwent microfracture surgery after that season. He is hitting .389 with six doubles this spring.

Our View: Getting over the mental hurdle could be huge for Tracy. He did not hit very well in 2008, but it's possible that he could be a decent NL-only sleeper in 2009. Tracy is only 28, and he posted solid numbers in both 2005 and 2006. He still carries risk, but there is a bit of upside.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 3/22, 8:07 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI in the Diamondbacks 12-7 win over San Diego on Sunday.

Our View: Tracy is hitting .389 this spring and is in line to be the opening day first baseman in Arizona. He lacks the natural power that you usually find at his position, but his asking rice will likely be low on draft day and he could produce some decent numbers if he can manage to stay healthy for a full season.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 2/19, 8:49 PM CT
Chad Tracy is expected to play primarily first base in 2009, but he may see some time at third base, as well, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: While Mark Reynolds is slated to play nearly every day at third base for the Diamondbacks, Tracy will see some time there on occasion when the team wants to get Tony Clark's bat in the lineup. Tracy has missed much of the last two seasons due to knee surgery, so it will be interesting to see if he can stay healthy and return to the form he displayed in 2005 and 2006, when he averaged 24 home runs and 76 RBI.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 9/20, 11:24 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 5-3 win over Colorado. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Tracy registered a hit in three straight games, and notched multiple hits for the first time since September 3, when he went a perfect 3-for-3 against St. Louis.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 7/16, 5:27 PM CT
Chad Tracy appears to have settled into the D'backs every day lineup at first base, with former first baseman Conor Jackson spending even more time in the outfield, according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View: Tracy is hitting .410 over his last 39 AB and .377 over his final 16 games. With production like that, the team certainly will find a spot for that smooth swing in the lineup. Jackson should continue to play on a daily basis as well and has now played 17 games in the outfield.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 7/13, 12:55 PM CT
Due to the injury to outfielder Eric Byrnes, Chad Tracy is playing everyday. Tracy was 3-for-5 with three RBI on Saturday to raise his average to .303.

Our View: He's also been batting cleanup which means he'll have plenty of RBI chances in the second half.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 7/12, 6:13 PM CT
The Diamondbacks put the whooping on the Phillies this evening, taking the 10-4 win thanks to the batting duo of corner infielders Chad Tracy and Mark Reynolds. Reynolds went just 1-for-4 at the plate but made the one hit good for his 19th homer of the season, totaling four RBIs on the day. Meanwhile Tracy went 3-for-5 at the plate, hitting three singles to total three RBIs and one runs scored.

Our View: Tracy is in the midst of a strong surge on offense, hitting .421 through July with 10 RBIs thus far. However, Reynolds is heading the other direction, hitting just .192 thus far this month with just two RBIs.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/10, 10:37 PM CT
Chad Tracy had three hits, two runs, and two RBI for the D'backs on Thursday night. Conor Jackson, playing in left field, also had three hits.

Our View: Tracy hasn't gone deep in 13 games, but he has lifted his average over .040 points since his last bomb up to .287. The team has committed to finding ways to get Tracy into the lineup nightly, so his value is rising to the point where he might be worthy of consideration in deep mixed leagues.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 7/2, 11:39 AM CT
With Eric Byrnes back on the disabled list the Diamondbacks are expected to play Conor Jackson in left field and Chad Tracy fulltime at first.

Our View: Expect Tracy to increase his efficiency with regular playing time, especially in the power department at hitter-friendly Chase Field.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/24, 9:31 PM CT
The Diamondbacks found frustration at the park this evening, coming just short in the 5-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Designated hitter Chad Tracy led the effort, going 2-for-3 with a walk and his fourth home run of the season, totaling four RBIs on the night.

Our View: Tracy is hitting just .235 through June before finding his groove this evening, hitting his first homer since June 13th.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 6/14, 12:22 AM CT
Chad Tracy hit a one out home run in the bottom of the 10th inning helping the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday.

Our View: Tracy was 2-for-4 on the night raising his average 28 points on the season. The four Friday night at-bats gives Tracy only 40 official plate appearances on the season.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 6/11, 2:34 PM CT
Chad Tracy will get the start at first base tonight, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.

Our View: This is Tracy's first start since June 6.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/10, 9:55 AM CT
Manager Bob Melvin noted that Chad Tracy isn't ready to play in the outfield yet following knee surgery, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: It was initially said that Tracy could get some work in the outfield while Eric Byrnes was out of action, but Tracy hasn't reached that point in his recovery yet. He would also be learning an unfamiliar position. Melvin will keep the option open down the road, if needed.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 6/1, 8:38 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 2-for-4 and hit his second HR of the season in the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.

Our View: Tracy is finding his groove after missing all of April and most of May, but until he finds fulltime at bats his fantasy value is in deep NL-only formats. In Fantasy Week 9, Tracy is a starting option. This is because first baseman Conor Jackson is expected to miss three to five days with a strained right quad.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 5/26, 6:53 PM CT
Chad Tracy was 1-for-4 in his debut on Monday against the Braves. Tracy, who started at first base and batted cleanup, had been recovering from right knee surgery.

Our View: Tracy will need some time to get readjusted after missing extensive playing time and where he fits in the everyday lineup is still a question.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 5/26, 12:27 PM CT
Chad Tracy has been officially activated from the DL, and as previously reported, he is starting at first base and batting cleanup for Arizona today, according to the AP. The team optioned catcher Robby Hammock to Triple-A Tucson to make room for Tracy on the roster.

Our View: Tracy will see action as a backup in relief behind Conor Jackson at first base and Mark Reynolds at third base.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 5/26, 11:40 AM CT
Chad Tracy is listed as the starter at first base and bat cleanup on Monday. Conor Jackson is getting the day off. It will be Tracy's first major league action of the season, as he is coming back from right knee surgery.

Our View: The D'Backs will work in Tracy at both corner infield spots. Jackson seems safer than Mark Reynolds at this point.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 5/23, 8:05 PM CT
Chad Tracy will rejoin the D'Backs on Monday after completing a rehab stint with Triple-A Tucson, according to MLB.com. "I'm very anxious to get there," said Tracy, who is coming back from knee surgery. "That's my team, and that's where I want to be. It's tough to get up for games here. You want to do the best you can to help them win games, but the bottom line is getting back up there."

Our View: Tracy has played both third and first base on his rehab, and he'll likely play some of both positions with the Snakes. Mark Reynolds has scuffled after a hot start, so Chad could eventually take over as the regular at the hot corner.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 5/16, 2:55 PM CT
Chad Tracy is still working his way back onto the field, but once he does finally return to action, don't look for him to remain with the D'backs for very long, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.

Our View: Considering that Tracy plays third base and first, and brings a left-handed bat to the party, it's a a bit odd to think the team might move Tracy, but on a slow news day, this was worth reporting.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 5/15, 8:31 AM CT
Chad Tracy's return to the D-Backs has been slowed by illness, but may return by the end of next week, according to the Arizona Republic. Manager Bob Melvin said he wants to see Tracy play in about a week of games for Triple-A Tucson before activating him. If all goes favorably, Tracy could be activated from the DL by the end of next week. He is recovering from right knee surgery.

Our View: Tracy won't beat out Mark Reynolds at third base, or Conor Jackson at first base, so he will have to settle for a backup role when he returns.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 5/11, 7:17 AM CT
Chad Tracy has missed the past two days due to an illness, the Arizona Republic reports. He has played in two minor league rehab games, and the club hopes he can log 10 contests before returning to the majors. Tracy is coming off microfracture surgery in his right knee.

Our View: Tracy will likely return as a backup at both first base and third base when he's ready.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 5/1, 7:29 AM CT
Chad Tracy had five hits, including two doubles, in an extended spring training game on Tuesday and played first base Wednesday, his first time in the field while recovering from September right knee surgery, according to the East Valley Tribune. Tracy gave his knee a good workout, running from second to home and sliding twice. Arizona hopes to move him to Triple-A Tucson in a week or so.

Our View: Tracy will fight Mark Reynolds for playing time at third base when he eventually returns, but would be hard-pressed to play a lot as Reynolds blasted seven homers and 24 RBI so far. He wouldn't push Conor Jackson at first base either, as Jackson is belting .348 with five homers and 25 RBI.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 4/30, 9:36 AM CT
Chad Tracy began playing games in his rehab from right knee surgery, and went 2-for-6 with a home run in extended spring training, according to the Arizona Republic. Manager Bob Melvin said, "He is not yet playing the field and will remain in extended spring training for several games before playing for Triple-A Tucson."

Our View: Tracy will fight Mark Reynolds for playing time at third base when he eventually returns, but would be hard-pressed to play a lot as Reynolds blasted seven homers and 24 RBI over 26 games so far.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 4/20, 12:04 PM CT
For the first time in his recovery from microfracture knee surgery, Chad Tracy ran the bases in cleats at full speed on Saturday and reported no pain or complications afterward, according to the Arizona Republic. Manager Bob Melvin noted it would be at least a few more days before Tracy begins a minor-league rehab assignment. Once he gets to that point, he will need around 40 plate appearances before activation.

Our View: This is favorable news, and he will fight Mark Reynolds for playing time at third base when he ultimately returns.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 4/17, 9:00 AM CT
Chad Tracy is moving toward starting a minor-league rehab assignment, according to the Arizona Republic. He will run the bases over the weekend, Manager Bob Melvin said, and if all goes favorably, he could go down to Tucson sometime next week to begin playing in extended spring-training games or in Triple-A. He is recoving from right knee surgery.

Our View: He would battle Mark Reynolds for playing time at third base when he returns.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/14, 8:46 AM CT
Chad Tracy is on the DL while he recovers from microfracture surgery on his right knee, but Manager Melvin noted that he hopes he will be available around May 1, according to the AP.

Our View: He would battle Mark Reynolds for playing time at third base when he returns.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 4/10, 8:55 AM CT
Chad Tracy has caught the same viral infection that is traveling through the D-Backs' clubhouse, according to the East Valley Tribune. The illness is going to set his rehab (from right knee surgery) back while he recovers.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 4/2, 8:18 PM CT
Chad Tracy is still working his way back into game shape with agility drills and running, but he is getting antsy to return to game action, this according to MLB.com. The timeline goes something like this: Tracy running the bases in 8-10 days, then getting about 30-40 AB in the minors before joining the big league club. That all means that Tracy shouldn't be expected back before the start of May.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 3/30, 6:38 PM CT
Chad Tracy is going to open the season on the 15-day DL, according to the Miami Herald. Tracy is coming off surgery on his right knee and will be replaced by Mark Reynolds at 3B.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 3/21, 10:28 AM CT
Chad Tracy's potential availability for opening day is no longer realistic, according to the Arizona Republic. He's not sure when he'll be ready to come back from microfracture surgery on his right knee. "I've stopped trying to do dates," he said. "Dates just don't work with this surgery." Tracy has been able to run since March 4, but he still hasn't gotten into a spring game. Mark Reynolds will start at the hot corner until Tracy is ready.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 3/11, 8:09 AM CT
Chad Tracy is expected to go off of blood thinners soon, according to the East Valley Tribune. He is recovering from a blood clot in his leg and would be able to return to practice about four or five days after ending his medication. He could start the season on the 40-man roster, even if only in a situational role.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 3/5, 8:11 PM CT
Arizona's Chad Tracy continues to rehab following microfracture surgery on his right knee. According to MLB.com, Tracy ran for the first time on Tuesday and experienced no pain or stiffness. Tracy hopes to make the starting lineup on Opening Day, but the team wants to proceed with caution.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 3/1, 8:13 AM CT
Chad Tracy said he won't be cleared for game action until he's allowed to get off blood thinners he's been taking since developing a blood clot in November, according to the Arizona Republic. "As soon as I get off of the thinners, if I'm able to run, then technically I could play in a game," he said. "But I don't know where I'll be with the knee." Tracy doesn't expect to stop taking the blood thinners for another two or three weeks, and he's running at only 60 percent of his weight on a gravity-differential machine. Realistically, it sounds like we won't see him test his surgically repaired knee in a game for quite a while.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 2/24, 7:14 PM CT
Chad Tracy took his biggest step yet Sunday in his return from knee surgery, going through agility drills on a side field at Tucson Electric Park. "Today was the day that I feel like you get over the hump and you start back on the good side," Tracy said in the AP. "I know now that I'll be ramping up the intensity every time out." Tracy still hasn't ran yet, and the club doesn't know when he'll be able to play in a spring training game, but this is definitely a step in the right direction in his rehab.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 2/15, 9:00 AM CT
Chad Tracy, recovering from knee surgery, has been hitting in the batting cage for the past month and is expected to be cleared to start running in a week or so, according to the Arizona Republic. It's possible Tracy might not be ready at the start of the regular season, but he should be able to play a few weeks in, at the latest.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 1/23, 10:37 AM CT
The D'Backs are looking at bringing in some infield depth in case Chad Tracy isn't recovered enough from his knee surgery to play at the beginning of the season. Among the possibilities is Eric Hinske, according to the Arizona Republic. "We've kicked around a few names," GM Josh Byrnes said. "There's still the possibility of none of the above. At this point, we're fairly optimistic that he (Tracy) is ready to go early in the year at some point. If he's not ready by opening day, there's a good chance that he will be ready early in the year." Tracy has begun taking batting practice in recent weeks but still has to move past the blood clot he suffered back in November.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 11/28, 11:25 AM CT
Recovering from microfracture surgery on his knee, Chad Tracy had a setback last week when he experienced a blood clot in his calf area. However, the D'Backs are still hopeful that Tracy will be ready by opening day. "I think if things go smoothly, Opening Day is possible," GM Josh Byrnes told MLB.com. "If they don't, then it could conceivably drag into the season, but we have been encouraged with the way things went before this little setback."
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 11/26, 10:27 AM CT
Chad Tracy appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from microfracture surgery on his knee. "I'm shooting for opening day," Tracy told the Arizona Republic last week. "Realistically, I'm not going to be able to start running until late January. I've got to make sure I don't go out and reinjure it because I'm not in good enough shape. You can't rush the strength, and you can't rush the endurance. It might be the end of spring training before I get the strength and endurance back." Even if all goes perfectly for Tracy during the offseason, you'll need to monitor his spring training performance closely to determine his draft value.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 9/22, 6:36 AM CT
The knee surgery Chad Tracy underwent Thursday was more serious than had been hoped. Tracy needed microfracture surgery to help repair the cartilage damage in his knee, according to the Arizona Republic. NBA players have required well over a year to get back near 100 percent, but the Diamondbacks hope that Tracy will be ready for spring training, since he won't have the same jumping and constant running demands required of basketball. You'll want to keep a close eye on his progress as the season nears, regardless, as this was a major procedure.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 9/19, 11:41 AM CT
Manager Bob Melvin hopes that Chad Tracy, who will undergo knee surgery Thursday, will be ready by spring training. "It depends on what they see in there," Melvin said in the Arizona Republic. "One of the reasons for doing it now is to get it done sooner than later."
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 9/18, 11:55 AM CT
Chad Tracy's return from the DL sure didn't last long. Tracy will undergo season-ending knee surgery Thursday after an MRI Monday revealed that the knee was getting worse. "What all is going on in there, we're not 100 percent sure," manager Bob Melvin said in the Arizona Republic. "There are some fragments in there and some other things we'll have to look at to see what's going on... When he got here today, it was as bad as it's been." Tracy was just activated from the DL Sunday and had a pinch-hit RBI single.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 9/16, 3:04 PM CT
The D'Backs activated Chad Tracy from the DL Sunday. Tracy has been sidelined by a knee injury, and he's not expected to be anything more than a pinch hitter down the stretch. "I have the opportunity to help the team, and that's all I want right now," Tracy said to the AP. "It's not going to get any better, but I don't think it can get a whole lot worse, either. I can ride out the pain for an at-bat."
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 9/15, 6:24 AM CT
Chad Tracy was able to take some live batting practice on Friday and didn't feel any restrictions during the session. However, his knee tendinitis bothers him more when he runs than hits, according to the Arizona Republic. He's probably going to try running the bases on Saturday, which could give us an idea of how soon he can get back into game action. It appears that he could at least pinch-hit soon.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 9/11, 12:12 PM CT
Chad Tracy hit soft tosses Monday in the batting cage for the first time since going on the disabled list. Tracy could take live batting practice during the weekend series in Los Angeles, according to the Arizona Republic. If Tracy is able to come back from his knee injury this year, he's unlikely to do so as an everyday player, because his knee might not be able to withstand it.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 9/6, 11:28 AM CT
Chad Tracy, out with a right knee injury, is still at least a couple of days away from taking swings, according to the Arizona Republic. It's still possible that Tracy won't return this year, as has been speculated, GM Josh Byrnes appears optimistic about getting the slugger back into the lineup at some point this season.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 9/3, 6:37 AM CT
On the disabled list with an injured right knee, Chad Tracy hasn't been able to do much besides play some catch. "He continues to do as much as he can physically, but he just has to let that knee rest to hopefully it gets back to where, once he starts strengthening and doing baseball activity, the problems have gone away," manager Bob Melvin told the Arizona Republic. Nonetheless, at this point, it doesn't appear likely that Tracy will be able to get back into game action this season.
Chad Tracy, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 8/25, 6:54 AM CT
It doesn't appear likely that Chad Tracy will be able to return to action this season. "It's not great," manager Bob Melvin told the Arizona Republic. "He's still probably going to sit out a while. It's just not responding like we would have liked." Tracy was scheduled to have his ailing knee examined by a specialist on Friday, so we should have a more definite idea of Tracy's status once those results are made available. Still, it doesn't sound promising.

"It feels the best it has since it started (hurting)," Tracy said. "Hopefully some of the stuff that we're doing will stick and I can finish up strong." He was to have the first injection Sunday and likely will have at least two more in the near future, according to the Arizona Republic. "Hopefully, this option will help enough where I don't have to get surgery," Tracy said. "There's a couple options right know to try before we have to go that route." He was able to play Sunday before getting the first injection. Hopefully the injections will do the trick and keep him on the field the rest of the season.
