Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 9/23, 7:51 PM CT
Scott Hairston is out of tonight's lineup against Texas while nursing a sore hip and SI joint, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Hairston is day-to-day, and skipper Bob Geren is not currently planning on shutting him down for the rest of the season.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 9/6, 7:03 PM CT
Scott Hairston's seventh inning grand slam was the difference on Sunday, as the A's beat the Mariners 5-2 at home.

Our View: The home run was only Hairston's second since August 14th. He is batting just .235 since getting traded to the A's in early July.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/19, 7:52 PM CT
Scott Hairston is out of tonight's lineup against the Yankees to rest his sore quad, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Skipper Bob Geren opted to hold Hairston out as the A's are off Thursday, hence giving him two days to rest.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/17, 11:33 PM CT
Scott Hairston went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored in tonight's 3-0 win over the Yankees at McAfee Coliseum.

Our View: Hairston accounted for two of Oakland's six hits in the game. Hairston has multiple hits in four of his last five games, and is worth penciling into fantasy lineups while hot.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/12, 3:46 PM CT
Scott Hairston led the way for the A's on Wednesday in their 6-3 win over the Orioles. Hairston went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the game.

Our View: Hairston continues to keep his surprise season going, and he has been a nice addition to the A's lineup since coming over from San Diego. He has 14 homers, and he is a solid AL-only option, and he might even be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/11, 8:49 PM CT
Scott Hairston went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off David Hernandez in tonight's 3-2 loss at Baltimore.

Our View: Hairston has a hit in three straight games, and collected his 14th homer of the season. He needs three more homers to tie his season-high of 17, set in 2008 with San Diego.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/7, 10:33 PM CT
Scott Hairston led Oakland in tonight's 9-4 win at Kansas City, as he went 2-for-5 with three RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Hairston has an RBI in four straight games, with eight total RBI over the span. He is worth penciling into AL-only lineups while hot.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/5, 11:49 PM CT
Scott Hairston led the Athletics in tonight's 7-5 win over Texas, as he went 1-for-3 with a homer and three RBI.

Our View: Hairston snapped a nine-game skid without a homer, and has 13 for the season. He was in need of a solid outing, as he was only batting 1-for-14 over four games in August heading into tonight.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/1, 8:47 AM CT
The A's hope that outfielder Scott Hairston (quad) will return to the lineup on Saturday, but it's not a given. "The earliest would be [Saturday]," manager Bob Geren informs MLB.com. "If not, probably the following day." Hairston has missed four straight contests.

Our View: Fantasy owners with daily transactions should plan on using a different option on Saturday. Hairston hasn't been hitting well enough (.250 in July) to earn the benefit of the doubt.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/22, 5:46 PM CT
Scott Hairston helped lead the A's in Wednesday's 16-1 win over Minnesota at McAfee Coliseum, as he went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. He hit two singles and a three-run homer off Glen Perkins.

Our View: Hairston was in need of a solid performance, as he was only batting .233 in July heading into today's game. He snapped a nine-game skid without a home run as well.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/18, 9:55 AM CT
After being hit in the left wrist by a pitch on Friday night, Scott Hairston won't get any X-rays yet, but is very unlikely to play Saturday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: However, the team said if the wrist continues to remain sore, he could undergo X-rays soon. Rajai Davis should start in his place today, and will get the bulk of the playing time should Hairston be out a while.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/7, 10:09 PM CT
Scott Hairston went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Josh Beckett in tonight's 5-2 loss at Boston.

Our View: Hairston hit his 11th homer of the season, and his first as a member of the Athletics. He started the game in center field, and looks to be a good fit with Oakland.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/5, 8:48 PM CT
Scott Hairston was reportedly dealt from San Diego to Oakland in exchange for two minor-leaguers and a player to be named later, according to the Padres' twitter page.

Our View: The names of the minor league players involved are yet to be disclosed. Hairston is hitting .307 with eight stolen bases and should be a solid addition to the A's outfield.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/2, 6:35 PM CT
Scott Hairston was productive in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Astros at Petco Park, as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He hit a single and a double, and also swiped a base.

Our View: Hairston raised his batting average a few points to .314, and is riding a five-game hitting streak. He continues to lead the Padres with eight stolen bases as well.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/29, 11:36 PM CT
Scott Hairston went 1-for-4 with a double in tonight's 3-1 loss to the Astros at Petco Park.

Our View: The Padres only registered two hits in the game against opposing hurler Roy Oswalt. Hairston had a decent performance in a terrible night for the Padres, and he is hitting .309 for the season.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/28, 10:13 PM CT
Scott Hairston led the way for the Padres on Sunday in their 2-0 win over the Rangers. Hairston went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the win.

Our View: There wasn't much offense to be seen on Sunday, as Hairston provded all of it for the Padres. His fantasy value is pretty solid right now, so if you are in need of an outfielder he may be a nice addition. He is hitting .310 on the season.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/23, 7:55 PM CT
Scott Hairston has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hairston had been out since June 2. His return should help boost a stagnant Padres lineup. In 43 games this season, Hairston is batting .327 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs. He won't keep up at that rate, but could be a decent third outfielder in most formats.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 6/19, 11:28 AM CT
Scott Hairston, out with a strained left biceps since June 3, will go on rehab assignment to Single-A Lake Elsinore this weekend, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Hairston was hitting the ball very well in 2009 before he got hurt, even putting up decent fantasy numbers (.327, 8, 23 and six steals). He could be worth a flier once he returns, which is probably next week, if you are in need of an outfielder.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/18, 9:05 AM CT
According to the North County Times, Padres' outfielder Scott Hairston took ground balls, shagged fly balls, ran, threw and faced live pitching during batting practice before Wednesday's game. Hairston said he is feeling much better, and he is expected to go on a rehab assignment soon.

Our View: Hairston is said to be getting very near a return, but he will have to play at least three games during his rehab assignment before he is ready. There is a possibility he could be back in the Padres' lineup by this weekend, but it looks like nearly a sure thing that he will be available by next week.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/3, 5:10 PM CT
Scott Hairston has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a strained biceps. He will be replaced on the roster by Will Venable.

Our View: Hairston was a solid option in daily change formats as he had been a very effective portion of the outfield platoon in San Diego. If you do not have an open roster spot, it's probably safe to cut bait and find a player who can contribute over the next two weeks.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/3, 2:33 PM CT
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Scott Hairston left in the third inning of Tuesday's game with a strained biceps.

Our View: Hairston said the injury got progressively worse with each swing. It doesn't sound good, but the book is still out on how serious it is. He is a game-time decision for tonight. Stay tuned.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 5/31, 8:22 PM CT
Scott Hairston hit a home run for the second-straight day on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with his seventh homer, two runs a walk and his sixth stolen base.

Our View: Hairston has been playing every day and should continue to be a fine NL-only outfielder who can make for a decent start even in mixed leagues when the matchup is right, given his decent mix of power and speed.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/17, 9:51 PM CT
Outfielder Scott Hairston wasn't fooled by Cole Hamels on Friday night. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI in the win.

Our View: Hairston has a lot of power, and he tends to run very hot and cold. He often only starts against southpaws, but the Padres may give him extra looks if he keeps swatting the ball like this.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/11, 1:22 AM CT
Scott Hairston made the most of his start on Friday and was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in the Padres 7-3 win over the Giants.

Our View: Hairston also scored two runs and stole a base in Friday's game. He was slated to be a reserve this season, but has already registered 12 at-bats. If he keeps hitting like this he'll get in the lineup more often.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 3/27, 11:54 PM CT
Scott Hairston hit two home runs on Friday and drove in four in the Padres 5-2 win.

Our View: Hairston will probably be a utility player this season, but isn't really strong enough in any category to make up for his .248 average even if he earns a full time job.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 1/8, 6:30 PM CT
Scott Hairston decided to re-sign with the Padres on Thursday, according to the Associated Press. The deal is for one year, but no financial terms were announced.

Our View: Hairston hit .248-17-31 last season for the Padres and offers a nice power bat when used properly, i.e., that means he would be best suited as a fourth outfielder and not as a starter. Let's hope the Padres realize that.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 12/10, 3:29 PM CT
The Phillies may be interested in the Padres' Scott Hairston as an option in left field, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He could be viewed as a decent alternative to replace Pat Burrell, if the Phillies are unable to reel in a higher-profile target. Hairston held a .312 OBP over 112 games in 2008, with 17 homers.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/29, 4:29 PM CT
Scott Hairston has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a torn ligament in his left thumb, according to the AP. The team recalled pitcher Cla Meredith from Triple-A Portland as the corresponding move.

Our View: Jody Gerut could be set up for extended playing time in center field, but that will also depend on who the Padres add in September call-ups.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/28, 10:07 AM CT
Scott Hairston may have sustained a broken thumb while attempting a diving catch in the outfield Wednesday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He said, "I thought I jammed the thumb on the dive, but an X-ray seems to show a chipped bone in the thumb."

Our View: He will have an MRI Thursday morning, which will decide if he is headed for the DL. Hairston is not optimistic the exam will have good results. Jody Gerut could be set up for extended playing time in center field, but that will also depend on who the Padres add in September call-ups.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/27, 11:34 PM CT
Scott Hairston hit his eighth home run of July on Sunday against the Pirates. "Scott Hairston has been swinging a hot bat," Black said. "He's got that in his game."

Our View: That he does. His eight blasts have come in 17 games but he is still not an everyday outfielder in San Diego.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 7/21, 9:41 PM CT
Scott Hairston continues to swing a hot stick. He went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs, an RBI, and two walks in Monday's win over the Reds. Hairston is 19-for-41 with seven home runs in 13 games this July.

Our View: Hairston has always been a streaky hitter with good potential. He is in the midst of an obvious hot run. Pick him up at your own risk.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/11, 11:41 PM CT
Scott Hairston finished 2-for-4 tonight with two runs scored. He hit his third triple of the season to go with his 15th double. Hairston is 13-for-24 over his last seven games.

Our View: Admit it. You weren't even sure Scott Hairston still had a regular gig in the majors. Playing in San Diego can make you pretty forgettable, I guess. He's likely on your waiver wire. Pick him up at your own risk.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/11, 1:39 PM CT
Scott Hairston is hot right now as he is 11-for-20 (.550) with three doubles, five homers, and eight RBI over his last six games, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: All other Padres have a combined total of four homers and 16 RBI for the entire month of July so far. Keep Hairston active in your lineups.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/9, 5:40 PM CT
Scott Hairston hit his 14 home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Padres fell 5-2 to the Florida Marlins on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View: Hairston has an impressive home run in ever 17.4 at-bats.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/6, 7:18 PM CT
Scott Hairston hit a lead off home run in the first off of Randy Johnson on Sunday. It was his third home run in two games.

Our View: Hairston is making his case to become a regular in San Diego's outfield, but at this point there is little reason to add him to your roster.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/5, 10:43 PM CT
Scott Hairston powered two long balls on Saturday night off Doug Davis as he went on to produce three hits, three RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Hairston is hitting only .246, but he has provided just enough offense to wind up playing almost every day until recently when he has lost some playing time to Chase Headley. Perhaps this outing will allow him to recapture some of that work.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 6/14, 8:11 PM CT
San Diego outfielder Scott Hairston has suffered a hyperextended left elbow during batting practice before today's game against Cleveland, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hairston, who would have started in left field and hit leadoff, was expected to be reevaluated during the game. Hairston is hitting .231 with nine home runs and 17 RBIs this season. If Hairston needs to go on the disabled list, the Padres could have top prospect Chase Headley in uniform for Sunday's game at Progressive Field.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/8, 12:29 AM CT
Scott Hairston hit a game-winning home run in the 10th inning in the Padres 2-1 victory over the Mets on Saturday night.

Our View: Hairston now has nine home runs, but with a batting average of .235 and and OBP below .290, the Padres are paying a high price for the power as are you if you continue to run him out there.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/28, 11:59 PM CT
San Diego outfielder Scott Hairston was the top offensive dog for the Padres in a 6-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. Hairston went 2-for-5 at the plate with his seventh home run of the season, good for two RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Hairston has gone 10-for-29 over his last seven games and is hitting .265 through May.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/30, 9:51 PM CT
The Padres pulled the 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies this evening, but LF Scott Hairston may be struggling to find a reason for optimism. Hairston went 1-for-5 at the plate, leaving seven runners on base.

Our View: Hairston is now hitting just .212 on the season with just seven hits over his last 16 games (three of those coming in last night's 7-4 loss to Philly).
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/29, 9:30 PM CT
Scott Hairston snapped out of a miserable slump Tuesday with a pair of homers and a double in the Pads' 7-4 loss to the Phillies. The outfielder came into the game with just three singles in his last 37 at-bats.

Our View: This is obviously a positive turn of events for Hairston, but he should only be used in deeper leagues until he came string together a few positive games in a row.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/18, 7:22 AM CT
Scott Hairston went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before giving way to Jim Edmonds on Thursday night. The backup outfielder had jumped out fast this season, but he's cooled off to the turn of 5-for-37 over the last 11 games.

Our View: Hairston brings tremendous pop to the table, but he is also way too prone to bad stretches like this. He's worth holding in NL-only leagues, but that's it.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/3, 5:18 PM CT
Scott Hairston continued his terrific start to the 2008 campaign Thursday, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored. The outfielder is batting .400 with two homers, three RBI and four runs after four games. He hit leadoff Thursday with Brian Giles getting a day off. Hairston is a fine NL-only play right now and is making a case to be owned in mixed league formats, as well.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 3/7, 6:32 PM CT
Scott Hairston had a strong day at the plate on Friday as he notched two hits and three RBI, while registering his first home run of the season on the first pitch of the game. He notably broke a 2-for-10 skid to start the spring.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 2/25, 9:58 AM CT
Skipper Bud Black told the San Diego Union-Tribune Sunday that Scott Hairston “might have the inside track” in the left-field competition, “just based on what he did last year.” The Pads spring roster is loaded with middle of the road talent in the outfield. Included in the competition is ex-Indian Jody Gerut, as well as Paul McAnulty, Chase Headley, Chip Ambres and Jeff DaVanon.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 11/13, 11:18 AM CT
Padres GM Kevin Towers will pursue a center fielder via trade this offseason. However, if he is not able to work out a deal, Scott Hairston will prepare as a center fielder, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Nearly all of Hairston's playing time in 2007 came in left field, but he did play three games in center.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/8, 6:59 PM CT
The Padres activated Scott Hairston from the DL on Saturday. He had been sidelined with a strained oblique muscle. Hairston will be available as a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner on Saturday, although he may not get into the starting lineup until sometime next week.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/18, 9:00 AM CT
Scott Hairston is not expected to come off the disabled list when eligible on Aug. 25. "There is still quite a bit of soreness," manager Bud Black told the San Diego Union-Tribune. Hairston is on the DL with a strained muscle in his left side and has yet to swing a bat. It may be September before he's back in the mix.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/10, 4:47 PM CT
The Padres placed Scott Hairston on the disabled list Friday with a strained muscle in his left side, according to the AP. He has hit .400 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 11 games since being acquired from Arizona.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/27, 10:04 PM CT
The Padres acquired Scott Hairston from the Diamondbacks on Friday for minor league pitcher Leo Rosales, according to the AP. Hairston hit .222 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 76 games for the Diamondbacks this season.

Our View: Hairston will likely take the role of outfielder Terrmel Sledge, who was sent to the minors on Wednesday when the team called up pitcher Clay Hensley.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/23, 9:16 AM CT
Scott Hairston was unavailable on Tuesday due to a stomach virus. On Monday, he was scratched with a sore wrist, according to the Arizona Republic. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return to action.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/19, 6:29 AM CT
Scott Hairston took batting practice on Friday and said his sore right wrist felt better. Hairston added that he hoped to be available to hit on Saturday, according to the Arizona Republic. With Chris Young likely out with a strained groin, the Diamondbacks probably will need Hairston to get back in the mix Saturday. He's been out since being plunked on his right wrist by a pitch Wednesday.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/17, 9:19 PM CT
Scott Hairston didn't take part in Thursday's game after being plunked on his right wrist by a pitch the night before. The good news is that X-rays were negative, according to the AP. It would be better news if the injury somehow cured his .224 batting average.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/17, 12:39 AM CT
Scott Hairston was hit by a pitch in the right wrist Wednesday, the AP reports. Hairston stayed in the game at the time but was eventually replaced, and he had X-rays after the game; results are not available as of yet.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/17, 9:05 AM CT
Scott Hairston's playing time will definitely be cut with Carlos Quentin coming off the DL, but manager Bob Melvin says Hairston will still get his at-bats, according to the Arizona Republic. "We feel like Scotty gives us enough that he's not just a fourth outfielder," Melvin said. "He's an actual contributor." This could mean that many nights Melvin will start Eric Byrnes in center and Hairston in right, which means Chris Young's playing time could be affected.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 4/1, 9:42 AM CT
Scott Hairston hit his seventh homer of the spring in Saturday's win over San Diego. Hairston will open the year playing left field for the Diamondbacks.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsMonday 2/26, 10:03 AM CT
Scott Hairston did some soft throwing yesterday and should be able to swing a bat tomorrow, according to the Arizona Republic. He was hit on his right arm by a batted ball on Saturday, but it looks like he's all right.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 2/24, 7:41 PM CT
Scott Hairston was clipped on his right arm Saturday by a batted ball, according to the AP. "It's just sore right now," he said. "I just have like a knot in there. When you get hit in the muscle it just knots up."
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/18, 9:18 PM CT
The Diamondbacks optioned Scott Hairston to Triple-A Tucson on Friday, according to the AP. Hairston, who was called up exactly one week ago, went 3-for-6 with one RBI in his brief stint in Arizona.
Scott Hairston, CF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/21, 9:35 PM CT
The Diamondbacks placed Scott Hairston on the 15-day DL on Wednesday with a right shoulder injury, according to the AP. He injured his shoulder running into the left field wall in 10th inning Monday night.
