Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 11/11, 2:21 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the NL Gold Glove award winners were announced on Wednesday. Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina, pitcher Adam Wainwright, Padres' first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers' second baseman Orlando Hudson, Phillies' shortstop Jimmy Rollins, Nationals' third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, Phillies' outfielder Shane Victorino, Dodgers' outfielder Matt Kemp, and Houston outfielder Michael Bourn were announced as the winners.

Our View: No huge surprises here, although Hudson struggled to find playing time for the Dodgers in the second half of the season. Cardinals' shortstop Brendan Ryan could have an argument at short, but Rollins finished with a ML best .990 fielding percentage, sealing his third straight award.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 10/6, 7:25 PM CT
Yadier Molina is slated to start at catcher for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Molina was given the green light to start after showing good mobility with his ailing left knee. The series will start Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 10/3, 12:01 PM CT
Yadier Molina is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Saturday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: He is battling leg and quad injuries, so the team is resting him up before the playoffs. Jason LaRue is going in his place.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 10/1, 1:49 PM CT
Yadier Molina left Thursday's game in the fifth inning with tightness in his left quad. He was replaced by Jason LaRue behind the plate.

Our View: Yadi has missed some time this week after taking a foul ball off his leg in the Colorado series, so hopefully this is just precautionary. We will keep you updated on his status, but the Birds need him healthy for the postseason.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/29, 4:28 PM CT
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that catcher Yadier Molina will miss Tuesday's game with a bruised left knee.

Our View: Yadi was injured in the Cardinals division clinching win on Saturday against the Rockies when he took a foul ball off the knee. With the division sewn up, there's no reason to push him, so he may get another day or two of rest. Jason LaRue will fill in behind the plate against the Reds.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 9/28, 9:17 AM CT
Yadier Molina hopes to return to action during the Cardinals' three-game series against the Reds this week, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Molina said he likely won't be ready to go on Tuesday, but he is hoping to be in the starting lineup on Wednesday.

Our View: Yadi took a nasty foul ball off the knee on Saturday, and the Cards are going to be very cautious with him now that they have clinched the division title. Expect Jason LaRue and possibly rookie Matt Pagnozzi to get some time over the next week as Yadi gets himself healed up.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/27, 1:46 PM CT
One day after bruising his left knee, Yadier Molina is out of the Cardinals lineup on Sunday.

Our View: It is just a precautionary move. Jason LaRue will start in his place.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/26, 10:25 PM CT
According to the Fox Sports Midwest broadcast, Yadier Molina left Saturday's game with a bruised left knee.

Our View: Yadi took a foul tip off the knee and was replaced by Jason LaRue behind the plate. It doesn't seem serious though, so consider him day-to-day.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 9/23, 10:54 PM CT
Yadier Molina was one of only two Cardinals with two hits on Wednesday night, as St. Louis got blanked 3-0 in Houston.

Our View: He is now batting .349 in 19 September games.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 8/16, 7:18 PM CT
Yadier Molina singled home the tying run off closer Heath Bell in the ninth inning of Sunday's 7-5 come from behind win over the Padres.

Our View: Molina finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a pair of RBI and three walks. Constantly lauded for his defense, Molina is getting it done at the plate as well. He's now hitting .294 this season with 41 RBI.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/14, 10:58 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Friday night, helping the Cardinals dispatch the Padres 9-2 at home. The infamously slow catcher also managed to steal his seventh base of the season. He is now 7-of-8 on steal attempts this year.

Our View: 73 home runs you could predict. 511 wins was bound to happen. A 56-game hitting streak wasn't out of nowhere. But seven Yadier Molina steals just defies all logic. Trying to figure out how it is possible is like trying to figure out how the universe began - there's simply no concrete answer. The seven steals are three more than he had in his entire five year career coming into 2009, and not something you are likely to see again in your lifetime. Cherish it, tell the grandkids about it and never forget.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/21, 3:41 PM CT
Yadier Molina is not in the Cardinals' lineup for their Tuesday night game against the Astros. Molina will be replaced behind the plate by Jason LaRue.

Our View: Yadi is just getting a day off since the Cards are at the beginning of a seven-day road trip. Expect Yadi to return to the lineup tomorrow, and he should pick up right where he left off at the plate and behind it.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 7/20, 9:58 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 1-for-4 with a single and two RBI in tonight's 3-2 loss at Houston.

Our View: Molina was the Cardinals' lone source of scoring tonight, and now has eight RBI over 15 games in July. He is hitting .321 over 56 at-bats this month as well.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/14, 11:06 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI in tonight's 4-3 loss to the American League in the All-Star Game in St Louis.

Our View: The Cardinals' catcher had a good outing while playing in his home stadium at Busch. Molina fared better than Albert Pujols, as the elite first baseman went 0-for-3.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 7/8, 11:10 PM CT
One day after reaching base five times, Yadier Molina went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored on Wednesday, but the Cardinals fell 5-4 in Milwaukee.

Our View: Yadi is having a fine offensive season in 2009, and is certainly in the top half of fantasy catchers. He's not an excellent option, but keeps his average around .300 and has even stolen five bases this year.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/29, 8:12 PM CT
Yadier Molina is out of tonight's lineup against the Giants while nursing a bruised right thigh, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: Molina is likely to return to action on Tuesday. We will keep you posted on his status.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/25, 3:32 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 2-for-5 with an RBI in the Cardinals' 3-2 loss to the Mets on Thursday. Molina singled home Skip Schumaker in the first inning off starter Johan Santana, but the Cards gave up the lead in the fourth.

Our View: Yadi also hit a ball hard in the bottom of the ninth that was caught by the left fielder that would have tied the game. He is an all-around solid catcher, both offensively and defensively, and he should be considered a decent fantasy option in all leagues.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/18, 10:17 PM CT
Yadier Molina hit for the fifth straight game on Thursday, going 2-for-4. It wasn't enough, though, as the Cardinals fell to the Tigers 6-3.

Our View: Molina now has seven hits in his last three games, and appears to finally be awakening from a prolonged slump. He could be worth a look at catcher in deeper mixed leagues, and is probably worth a roster spot in most NL only leagues.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/17, 10:14 PM CT
Yadier Molina was 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Tigers.

Our View: Molina has eight hits in his last four games. After hitting .333 in April, he hit just .220 in May. In June he is 14-for-46 (.304).
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/8, 5:58 PM CT
Yadier Molina recorded his 500th career hit in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The catcher known for his defensive wizardry has quietly turned into a much better hitter the past three seasons, including batting a career high .304 in 2008. He is a fringe fantasy option in 2009, but not an altogether awful choice.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/5, 11:05 PM CT
Yadier Molina was productive in Friday's 11-4 loss to Colorado at Busch Stadium, as he went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a single.

Our View: Molina ended a nine-game skid without an RBI, and went 25 games without a homer.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/26, 6:22 PM CT
Yadier Molina was the lone bright spot for the Cardinals on Sunday in their 10-3 loss to the Cubs. He was 2-for-4 and hit his second home run of the season.

Our View: Yadi's blast was an opposite field shot off Rich Harden, which speaks volumes about his progression as a hitter. He seems very comfortable at the plate and doesn't seem to be tinkering with his stance as much. That has translated to a .344 average with a pair of homers and 11 RBI. He's quickly becoming a quality fantasy option at catcher.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/9, 3:32 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Pirates at Busch Stadium.

Our View: Molina has three RBI over four games, and is off to a good start in that department while coming off a breakout 2008 campaign. The Cardinals had eight hits today, all of them singles.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 2/26, 5:19 PM CT
Yadier Molina drove in two runs with a first-inning double Thursday afternoon in the Cardinals' 11-3 loss to the Orioles.

Our View: It will be interesting to see if Molina, a .262 lifetime hitter, can follow up on his breakout season of 2008, when he hit .304 and drove in a very respectable 56 runs from the bottom of the order.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 2/24, 8:17 PM CT
Catcher Yadier Molina will be the lone member of the Cardinals' 40-man roster to participate in the World Baseball Classic, according to MLB.com. Molina will play for Cardinals third-base coach Jose Oquendo, who will serve as the manager of the team from Puerto Rico.

Our View: Oquendo will have to chose between playing Molina or fellow catchers Ivan Rodriguez and Geovany Soto.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 1/26, 1:43 PM CT
Yadier Molina is aiming to stay healthy in 2009, according to MLB.com. He said, "I have been working hard with my body, with my knees. I just want to play a full season healthy. I have been working with my trainer in Puerto Rico, Felix Molina. I am just trying to be healthy this year, trying to finish the season. The full season."

Our View: Molina won his first Gold Glove in 2008, while also batting .300 with a .349 OBP. Molina is only 26 years old, and still has room to improve offensively, meaning he is worthy of drafting as a starting catcher for 2009.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 11/5, 4:40 PM CT
MLB.com reports that catcher Yadier Molina was awarded his first Gold Glove of his career on Wednesday.

Our View: Molina has been one of the top catchers in the game since he won a regular starting job. He was robbed of the award last season when Brad Ausmus took it home.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/23, 9:44 AM CT
Manager Tony LaRussa commented that he expects Yadier Molina to return at some point during the Cardinals' final seven games, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The team is still reluctant to put him in position where he can aggravate his bruised thigh.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/21, 11:30 AM CT
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is unsure when he will be able to return from his deep thigh bruise, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I thought it was going to take two or three days," Molina remarked.

Our View: Molina has had a solid year behind the plate, but offers fantasy owners little in any one statistic. He is best suited for NL-only leagues.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 9/19, 7:55 AM CT
Yadier Molina remains bothered by his deep quad bruise, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Manager Tony LaRussa is not optimistic Molina will return to action for this weekend's series against the Cubs, and believes he is more likely to return when the Cardinals start a homestand against Arizona Monday.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/18, 7:30 PM CT
Again on Thursday, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was not in the lineup due to a nagging thigh injury, according to the Cardinals official web site. Molina suffered the injury on September 10th and has only played in one game since then.

Our View: The team has said that Molina might return when the Cardinals return home next Monday but they even say that might not be the case. Molina has had his best year at the plate, hitting .305.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 9/17, 7:24 AM CT
Yadier Molina missed his fifth start in six games Tuesday due to his ailing left thigh, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The team is unclear as to when Molina may return to the lineup. Jason LaRue should continue to fill in at catcher until Molina is ready to play.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/14, 3:01 PM CT
Molina was removed from Sunday's game after reaggravating his left thigh injury, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He will probably be out a little longer this time. Jason LaRue should start in Molina's place. You will probably want to bench Molina this week if you have other options.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/14, 12:25 PM CT
Molina is expected to be in the lineup on Sunday after missing time with a bruised thigh, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Our View: Get him back in your lineup.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/13, 7:41 PM CT
Yadier Molina is nearing his return to the Cardinals following his bout with a bruised left thigh, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He could start Sunday's game against the Pirates. He is not entirely pain-free but manager Tony LaRussa believes he is good enough to pencil back into the lineup. Molina should be penciled back into fantasy lineups as well, as he holds a solid .306 batting average.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/11, 5:09 PM CT
Yadier Molina is expected to miss a few days after a collision at the plate with Ted Lilly. Molina has a sore thigh and a bruised shoulder, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Molina has been a big surprise at the plate this year with an average of .306. Now that Molina will miss a few games it will definitely hurt the chances of the Cardinals' playoff hopes.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 9/10, 9:15 PM CT
Yadier Molina had to leave the Cardinals game with the Cubs in the fifth inning due to a bruised thigh, according to the Associated Press. He was replaced in the lineup by Jason LaRue.

Our View: Currently in the top-10 in the NL batting race at .308, if Molina were lost for any length of time the already small playoff hopes of the club would likely be dashed. Molina had suffered the injury in the second inning when he was run over by, of all people, Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly who did his best impression of Matt Forte.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/22, 10:56 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 4-for-5, scored two runs and drove in four as the Cardinals bludgeoned the Braves 18-3.

Our View: Molina had four of the team's astounding 26 hits, and fantasy owners in NL-only leagues could certainly do worse at the catcher position.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/21, 1:59 PM CT
Yadier Molina was scratched from the lineup Wednesday due to a bruised foot, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The ailment is believed to be minor, and Molina is considered day-to-day.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 7/30, 4:30 PM CT
Yadier Molina has five hits in his last two games to push his average up to .307 on the year, the ninth best mark in the National League.

Our View: Molina actually has hits 5-straight games and is hitting .341 over his last 85 AB. After hitting .216 in 2006, Molina improved to .275 last year and seems intent on bettering that total yet again this season.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/11, 8:59 PM CT
Yadier Molina continues to dominate lefties. He entered Friday nights game batting .373 against southpaws and manager Tony La Russa batted him fifth. He went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.

Our View: Molina is quietly becoming a viable starting option at the position. He is hitting .303 with just 13 whiffs this season. However, he is still suffering in the power categories. A batting spot fifth in the order against lefties should help his RBI totals.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/10, 3:19 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 1-for-4 and drove in the only run for the Cardinals in their loss to Philadelphia. He is hitting .303 on the season.

Our View: Molina is lauded for his defense, but he has had a nice season offensively, with four home runs and 27 RBI. He should certainly be considered in all fantasy formats.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 7/5, 6:44 PM CT
Yadier Molina went 1-for-3 on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 12 games for the Cardinals.

Our View: Not many people have noticed that Molina is hitting a robust .307 through 251 AB marking him as one of the surprising players at the catcher position. Unfortunately he has little power (four home runs), and no speed (19 runs and zero SB), but he is proving to be a significant asset in the batting average category.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/22, 2:01 PM CT
The Cardinals have fielded Yadier Molina at first base today, giving Molina his first time on the playing field since suffering a concussion last week, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Molina served as the designated hitter in the series opener on Friday. However, the imPACT concussion screening that he receives daily showed regression in his condition on Saturday, so Molina was held out of the lineup entirely on Saturday. He still has not been cleared to catch, but the club considered first base a suitable assignment.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/21, 5:03 PM CT
Yadier Molina was held out of the lineup Saturday due to a regression in his performance on the imPACT concussion screening exam, according to MLB.com. Molina started at DH on Friday and hit a home run, and even though he said he did not feel any different on Saturday than he did on Friday, he was not clear due to the screening results. "He didn't score as well today as he did last night," manager Tony La Russa said. "It could have been the stress of playing. We figured we were best just to give him the whole day off."

Our View: The Cards don't want to take any chances on Yadi. He could possibly start at DH again Sunday, but don't expect him to be behind the plate for another few days.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/19, 2:20 PM CT
Yadier Molina will travel with the team for their set against Boston on Friday, according to MLB.com. Manager Tony LaRussa said, "He's feeling better, but Molina has not been cleared yet to play."

Our View: Jason LaRue will continue to serve as the starting catcher until Molina is ready to resume his role. LaRussa is yet to set a timetable for his return, but it is a good sign that he is making the trip to Boston.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/17, 9:15 PM CT
Yadier Molina has recovered surprisingly well from his mild concussion, and he could return to the lineup sometime this week, according to MLB.com. The catcher suffered the injury when the Phillies' Eric Brunlett collided with him on Sunday. "The pain in my neck went away," said Molina. "The neck feels fine. My body feels fine. It's just the headaches. I'm going out, going to stretch with the team, try to run out on the field. If I feel fine, a couple of days and I'll be back."

Our View: Molina is still feeling some effects from the concussion, so you can expect that the Cards will use him only in an emergency over the next few games, but it appears at this point that he'll avoid a DL stint. Jason LaRue will be the primary catcher while Molina is out.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/17, 9:53 AM CT
Yadier Molina, who is recovering from a mild concussion, has been released from the hospital on Monday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The team remains hopeful he can avoid the DL and GM John Mozeliak said (after his hospital visit), "He was in good spirits. He said he felt better."

Our View: The Cardinals did not bring in another catcher, and the team is waiting to see how Molina improves. The team will be looking for persistent fatigue and headaches.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/16, 10:24 AM CT
Yadier Molina is not likely to land on the DL, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He sustained a mild concussion during Sunday's hard collision at home plate during battle with the Phillies, and it looked worse than it actually turned out to be.

Our View: This is good news, but the team is expected to call up a catcher to serve as backup to Jason LaRue while Molina recovers, and will likely trim a pitcher to make room on the roster.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/15, 7:43 PM CT
It has been disclosed that Yadier Molina suffered a mild concussion during Sunday's brutal collision at home plate against the Phillies, and he will be kept overnight in the hospital as a precaution, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The severity of the ailment is yet to be determined. Jason LaRue will handle the catching duties while he Molina is out of action.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/15, 4:23 PM CT
Yadier Molina was involved in a collision at home plate with Eric Bruntlett of the Phillies. During an attempted tag -- Molina took a hard hit in an awkward position -- and had to be carried off the field after the medical team secured his neck. Molina landed as if he had no movement in his lower extremities and never moved during the five minutes he laid on the ground waiting for the doctor to arrive. The injury looks to be serious.

Our View: We will update you as soon as information becomes unavailable.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/3, 11:37 PM CT
The Cardinals put the 6-1 hurt on the Washington Nationals this evening with catcher Yadier Molina leading the charge. Molina went 2-for-5 at the dish with his third homer of the season, good for three RBIs on the night.

Our View: Molina is now 8-for-19 over his last five games with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/28, 10:18 PM CT
The Cardinals didn't have a ton of offense this evening, but catcher Yadier Molina came through and helped his team earn the 6-1 win over Houston. Molina went 2-for-4 with two singles, totaling two RBIs and a run scored on the night.

Our View: Molina has hit rather well through May, posting a batting average of .308 for the month with 13 RBIs and just five strikeouts.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/14, 7:13 PM CT
St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina has been fined an undisclosed amount but will avoid suspension following his ejection from Monday's battle with Milwaukee, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Our View: Molina was arguing calls with home plate umpire Paul Schrieber before being ejected, at which time Molina disrobed of his equipment and left his gear all over the field.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 5/13, 6:34 PM CT
Yadier Molina will likely be facing disciplinary action from the team as a result of his temper tantrum on Monday night, according to the Associated Press. “We’ll hear something,” manager Tony La Russa said of Molina's eruption after arguing balls and strikes. “It’s not going to go unnoticed.”

Our View: It was quite a scene actually with Molina leaving all his gear at home plate, so we give him points for style. If/when he is suspended, look for Jason LaRue to take over behind the plate.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 5/8, 7:07 PM CT
Yadier Molina had two hits and an RBI as he continues to ride right along with a .302 batting average.

Our View: Molina doesn't offer much power or any ability to score runs, but he really appears to have turned the corner in the batting average category marking him as a useful play in NL Only leagues.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/3, 6:37 PM CT
Yadier Molina hit his second homer of the season in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Cubs. He went 2-for-3 overall, with one RBI.

Our View: Molina holds a .289 average with 10 RBI over 26 games. His average is solid, but he still isn't worth starting in standard mixed leagues (unless you start two catchers).
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/22, 12:15 PM CT
Yadier Molina will ride the pine in favor of Jason LaRue at catcher today, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The team is facing left-handed pitcher Manny Parra of Milwaukee today.

Our View: He only has one homer and seven RBI this season with a .246 average, and isn't worth starting in standard mixed leagues anyway (unless you start two catchers).
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 4/5, 4:45 PM CT
Yadier Molina had two hits and two RBI on Saturday in the Cardinals 5-4 victory over the Nationals. Molina is nothing more than a catcher two in all but NL Only leagues, but he did hit .275 last season to offer hope that he could be a decent depth play even if the power never comes around.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/3, 12:54 PM CT
Yadier Molina is not in the Cardinals' lineup today, as Jason LaRue is starting at catcher. Molina notably suffered through a poor spring training and is only hitting 2-for-8 so far in the regular season.

Yadier Molina, who is coming off 2007 season ending surgery, lost 10 to 15 pounds this winter, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The feared arm of Molina is a plus for the Cards defense, but his offense must improve if he is to be considered a fantasy option in mixed formats.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 1/21, 7:52 PM CT
Yadier Molina inked a four-year, $15.5 million deal with the Cardinals Monday. The deal includes a $7 million club option for 2012. Molina is primarily known for his defense, but he did hit a career-best .275 in 2007.

Molina, who was injured by a foul tip in last night's game, is expected to miss four to six weeks of action. The team will recalled Brian Esposito from Triple-A Memphis to replace Molina on the roster. Gary Bennett should get the bulk of the time behind the plate while Molina is out.
