Jeremy Affeldt, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 3/2, 8:30 AM CT
Jeremy Affeldt, who was rocked for four earned runs over one inning in his spring debut with the Giants, stated he made a mechanical adjustment after seeking advice from pitching coach Dave Righetti and Randy Johnson, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The lefty has plenty of time to get on target, and is in good hands regarding coaching. He is worth drafting as a setup man, and would likely be in line for saves if Brian Wilson struggles or suffers an injury.

The San Francisco Giants took one left-handed reliever off the market when they signed Jeremy Affeldt to a two-year, $8 million deal, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View: Left-handed relievers are always a hot commodity, and his very solid numbers that include 80 K in 78.1 innings pitched made him the object of desire for numerous clubs.

The Indians are deciding whether to target a top closer or try to pursue setup men Jeremy Affeldt and Juan Cruz, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Affeldt would be a solid addition to the Indians' pen as he held a 1.31 WHIP over 78.1 innings of relief with Cincinnati in 2008.

Our View: The Cardinals are expected to use free agency to address a crucial need for lefthanded relief, and Affeldt was listed among their targets. He would be a a solid acquisition as he fired 80 strikeouts over 78.1 innings with the Reds in 2008, while maintaining a 1.31 WHIP.

Jeremy Affeldt will start the season in the bullpen for the Reds, according to RedlegsRundown.com. He has been competing for a spot in the Reds' starting rotation, but poor performances killed his chances. He should be pleased that he is going to make the final roster, with a 11.57 ERA so far this spring.

Jeremy Affeldt had a nightmarish outing on Thursday as he allowed seven runs on nine hits over a mere 3.1 innings of work. He had three strikeouts with only one walk but his hopes to win a spot in the Reds' rotation decreased with that performance.

Jeremy Affeldt , hoping to secure a spot in the Cincinnati starting rotation, struggled today in the Reds' 13-8 win over the split-squad Atlanta Braves, allowing six runs, six hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. The left-hander signed a $3 million, one-year contract with the Reds, who are giving the former Rockies reliever a chance to start. Outings like this don't provide much hope that the money has been well spent. Stay tuned. "What got Affeldt in trouble was walks," Baker said. "He is working on his changeup. He threw the ball pretty good. If he cuts down those walks, he'll be all right."
