Tyler Yates was arrested in Hawaii back on December 30th on a family abuse charge, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was also charged with property damage.

Our View: The police dropped both offenses though. The reliever recently re-signed with the Pirates.

Tyler Yates has agreed to a minor league deal with the Pirates, according to TSN.

Our View: Yates underwent reconstructive elbow surgery in July and was dropped from the Pirates' 40-man roster in October. He could be a nice innings-eater for the Pirates' pen if he proves to be healthy for the 2010 campaign. He hurled a career-high 73.1 innings of relief with Pittsburgh back in 2008.

Tyler Yates, who recently underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery, has been trasferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Our View: Obviously, this was just a procedural move as their was a zero percent chance he would pitch again this season. Don't expect to hear his name until next year's All-Star break at the very, very earliest.

Tyler Yates has undergone Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of 2009, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Yates hadn't pitched since May 15, and has a 7.50 ERA in 12 innings this season. He will likely miss a good chunk of 2010, too, and shouldn't be owned in any format now.

The Tribune-Review reports that Tyler Yates has returned to Pittsburgh to have further tests on his sore elbow. He suffered the setback on Tuesday calling the elbow "super sore."

Our View: Yates was hoping to return this month, but there is no longer a timetable set for his return. It sounds as if there's a chance he might be headed for surgery.

Tyler Yates has suffered a setback in his rehab from right elbow inflammation as he eneded his simulated game early today due to discomfort, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: He has been on the DL since May 17, and now looks to be headed for more tests. Dr. James Andrews in Alabama recently told Yates he does not have any structural damage in his elbow, and only has a sore ligament.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pirates' reliever Tyler Yates is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Tuesday at Turner Field in Atlanta. "If that goes well," manager John Russell said, "we'll look to get him out on rehab."

Our View: Yates has been out since May 16 with the inflammation in his elbow, and it looks like he will be on the shelf for a few more weeks. He should not be considered in any fantasy format unless he shows he can be a consistent arm out of the bullpen for the Pirates. Even then, he warrants very little consideration as a middle reliever.

Tyler Yates is expected to miss 2-3 more weeks while recovering from a sore right elbow, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The 31-year-old reliever held a 7.50 ERA over 12 innings prior to landing on the DL, and is only worth waiting for in the deepest of fantasy leagues that use middle men.

Tyler Yates is not expected to be ready to come off the DL when first eligible on Sunday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: His tests came back fine, but is slowly recovering from right shoulder inflammation. When ready to return, Yates will only hold fantasy value in deeper leagues that use middle relievers.

Tyler Yates, who is recovering from right elbow inflammation, threw from 90 feet in his second throwing session, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He threw from 60 feet in his previous session, and will try to throw from 120 feet next.

Our View: He is progressing, but Pirates' GM Neal Huntington noted that Yates may not return when eligible to come off the DL Sunday. When healthy, Yates only holds value in deeper NL-only leagues that feature middle men.

Tyler Yates, who is recovering from right elbow inflammation, had a light throwing session Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: His elbow held up as well as expected. Yates could return to the Pirates' pen by the start of June, but is not worth waiting for in fantasy leagues as he holds a poor 7.50 ERA over 12 innings of work.

Tyler Yates has been placed on the 15-day DL due to right elbow inflammation, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Tom Gorzelanny has been recalled from Triple-A as the corresponding move.

Our View: Yates has not been helping the Pirates, or fantasy owners, as he holds a 7.50 ERA over 12 innings of relief.
Tyler Yates, P, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 1/20, 1:56 PM CT
Tyler Yates has signed a one-year deal with the Pirates worth $1.3 million to avoid salary arbitration, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He can rake in an additional $25,000 in performance incentives.

Our View: Yates nailed down one save and six wins over 73.1 innings of relief last season, but held a poor 1.54 WHIP and 4.66 ERA and does not look to hold much fantasy value for 2009.
Tyler Yates, P, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 7/29, 9:07 PM CT
With Matt Capps still on the DL, and Damaso Marte dealt to the Yankees, Tyler Yates picked up the save for the Pirates as they beat the Rockies 6-4.

Our View: There is no firm date for Capps' return, so the Pirates need someone to close out games, and Yates got the call tonight. He had been scored on six of his previous seven outings, and his overall numbers, such as a WHIP of 1.61, are not good, so picking him up to get some cheap saves may not be a great idea.

Tyler Yates was dealt to the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for minor league pitcher Todd Redmond, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. The news should not affect fantasy baseball leagues.

Tyler Yates believed he could have performed better late last season -- he posted a 6.83 ERA after the All-Star break -- if he had been better conditioned, acccording to MLB.com. To that end, he spent more time this offseason surfing and paddling in his native Hawaii than lifting weights. Yates also is working on a split-fingered fastball. "I threw [the split-finger] every night in the bullpen, but it never felt comfortable," Yates said. "Right now, my main focus is to locate my fastball and get consistent with my split. From what I'm hearing from the batters, it's coming along pretty well. If I can command my pitches in the strike zone, I can be where everybody expects me to be." Yates allowed a single earned run in 10 2/3 June innings and struck out 69 batters in 66 IP last season, so he has some fantasy potential as a reliever.

Tyler Yates has secured a spot in the Braves bullpen, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Since he was out of minor league options, he had an advantage over the competition.

Tyler Yates has a good shot at making the Braves roster as part of their relief staff, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He has a leg up on the competition, because he's out of minor league options.
