Shi Davidi of the Canadian Press tweets that Edwin Encarnacion is doing well following a fireworks accident that burned his face, according to his agent.

Our View: Encarnacion suffered first and second degree burns on his face, but is still expected to report to spring training on time. Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 9/20, 3:56 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion hit just his fourth home run since coming to Toronto on Sunday, but it went for naught, as Toronto lost 3-1 in Tampa Bay.

Our View: Encarnacion is now batting an abysmal .213 in 73 games split between the Blue Jays and Reds in 2009, and has a very uncertain major league future. He might not get a starting job in 2010.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 9/6, 5:11 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion picked up his first two RBI on Sunday since being activated off of the disabled list, helping the Jays destroy the Yanks 14-8 at home.

Our View: Don't expect many more RBI down the stretch, however, as Encarnacion has struggled to keep his average too far north of .200 this season, and does not look like the same player that knocked in 76 runs in 2007.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 9/5, 4:39 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from a strained left hamstring, according to TSN.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 8/24, 10:11 AM CT
Edwin Encarnacion missed his third straight game on Sunday while suffering from a sore left knee, according to MLB.com. Encarnacion is still being considered day-to-day by the team.

Our View: The team isn't saying much about when Encarnacion will return to the lineup, but it should be soon considering they haven't placed him on the DL. If you are relying on him, check back later today, as we will update his status for tonight's game against the Rays when the lineups are released.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/21, 4:10 PM CT

Edwin Encarnacion will join the Blue Jays on Saturday, and he will likely split time at third base with Jose Bautista, the Toronto Star and MLB.com insinuate.

Our View: Encarnacion has obvious warts in his game, but it's still surprising to learn that the Jays won't see if he can handle the every-day job. AL-only fantasy owners will want to temper their waiver wire bids.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 7/31, 3:22 PM CT
According to FOXSports.com, the Blue Jays have acquired third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and an unnamed minor leaguer from the Reds for Scott Rolen.

Our View: Encarnacion gives the Jays a younger more affordable option at the hot corner as they dive into their rebuilding era. His fantasy value could take a hit leaving Great American Ballpark, but if he stays healthy he'll still produce on a serviceable level.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 7/17, 10:50 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion had a huge night for the Reds on Friday as they defeated the Brewers 4-0. Encarnacion went 4-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View: Edwin needs to be a big offensive player for the Reds in the second half if they are going to stay in the race, especially with Jay Bruce out with an injury. If he stays healthy, he should be a solid fantasy contributor for the rest of the season.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 7/3, 2:01 PM CT
According to the official Twitter page of the Cincinnati Reds, the team has activated third baseman Edwin Encarnacion from the DL. In a corresponding move, the team placed Danny Richar on the DL with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Our View: Encarnacion has been out for most of the season, but when healthy he can still be a major offensive threat. His fantasy value is low right now, but if he starts hitting he could be a solid second half option.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 6/30, 5:57 PM CT
Reds' skipper Dusty Baker does not intend to activate Edwin Encarnacion from the DL at any point during their current six-game homestand, according to the Dayton Daily News. He is recovering from a broken left wrist.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 6/27, 9:29 AM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Edwin Encarnacion doubled and drew three walks in a rehab assignment on Friday.

Our View: Encarnacion has been on the shelf with a fractured wrist since April 28th, but is close to coming off the 60-day DL. He should return sometime in the next two weeks, but beware of a power outage when he returns as wrist injuries tend to sap a hitter pop.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 6/16, 4:28 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion took batting practice on Tuesday according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Encarnacion has been out since April 28 with a fractured wrist. He is expected to soon go on a minor league rehab assignment, and could be back with the Reds sometime in the next month.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/10, 10:23 AM CT
An MRI on Edwin Encarnacion's injured left wrist has confirmed that the third basemen has suffered a setback in his recovery according to the Cincinnati Inquirer. It is not known when he will be able to begin a rehab assignment.

Our View: 2009 is shaping up to be a lost season for the Reds slugger. He was batting only .129 before the injury and now it appears that the team doesn't really know when he's coming back. If you have no other injuries, he's probably still worth stashing on your disabled list, but higher priority should be given to just about any other player. Players who suffer wrist injuries, like David Ortiz or Derrek Lee, tend to not hit as well once they come back, especially in the short term. So the odds of Encarnacion being a productive fantasy player this year are slim.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/7, 12:04 PM CT

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 6/5, 2:07 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Edwin Encarnacion could start his rehab assignment as soon as this weekend. Encarnacion is still recovering from a left wrist fracture.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 5/31, 1:55 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the Reds will be without Edwin Encarnacion for at least two or three more weeks due to his wrist injury. Encarnacion is expected to take live batting practice early this week in St. Louis.

Our View: The Reds are being very careful with Encarnacion, as he looks to be doing very well at this point. He will hit this week, and he should start a rehab assignment at some point in the near future. Expect him to return in about two weeks or so.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 5/19, 4:36 PM CT
According to MLBlogs, Edwin Encarnacion is improving and has begun swinging the bat. One handed, but swinging none the less.

Our View: There is still no timetable for Encarnacion's return after fracturing his wrist in March. He is due to return sometime in June, but it depends on how quickly the wrist heals.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 4/28, 4:39 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds placed Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day disabled list. An MRI revealed a chip fracture in his ailing wrist.

Our View: This may be a blessing in disguise for the Reds. Encarnacion was hitting a dismal .127 on the season, which could have been a result of the wrist issues. Now at least he'll have time to let it heal properly and down the road he can try and boost his stats while he's 100 percent.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 4/13, 11:13 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion hit a grand slam off of Yovani Gallardo in Monday's 7-6 win over the Brewers. It was his only hit in three at bats as he also walked and struck out once.

Our View: Encarnacion had failed to register an RBI in his first five games, but the good news is that he has already drawn eight walks. As long as he remains selective, he should be able to increase his .251 average from a season ago.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 4/13, 10:11 AM CT
Edwin Encarnacion is only 3-for-13 at the plate so far, but manager Dusty Baker has faith that he will start to get hot soon, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Baker said, "He has been knocking the fire off the ball in BP. It is just around the corner, him getting hot."

Our View: Encarnacion should remain in fantasy lineups for the second week of the season. The Reds face the Brewers today at Miller Park, and Encarnacion has swatted nine homers over 49 career meetings with Milwaukee.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 3/18, 3:45 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rays. That marks his second homer of the spring.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 3/8, 11:47 AM CT
Edwin Encarnacion is being bothered by a sore left wrist, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 3/3, 3:45 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 9-8 win over Boston in the Grapefruit League.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 1/30, 4:50 PM CT
Reds GM Walt Jocketty expects the Reds to avoid arbitration with Edwin Encarnacion, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The club offered $2.55 million while Encarnacion asked for $3.7 million.

Our View: Encarnacion hit 26 home runs last year, but his .251 average won't help his case. He'll probably end up making around $3 million in the upcoming season if the two sides do settle.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 12/12, 6:55 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion will be tendered a contract by the Reds, according to Mlbtraderumors.com.

Our View: Encarnacion hit 26 home runs in 146 games last year so this move doesn't come as much of a shock.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 12/5, 12:49 PM CT

Edwin Encarnacion went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Giants at the Great American Ballpark. His hit went for a home run, his 24th of the season.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/29, 10:44 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-4 and collected five RBI in Friday's exciting 11-7 win over the Giants. Most of his damage came on a grand slam off Barry Zito.

Our View: He snapped a 14-game skid without a homer, and has 23 for the season. He is capable of strong production, like tonight, but is too inconsistent to pencil into lineups as a solid weekly starter.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 8/16, 5:37 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion is getting a day off on Saturday. Jeff Keppinger will start at third base against the Cardinals.

Our View: Encarnacion is hitting .163 this August, and a breather might be a good thing. He has shown good pop again this year, but the inconsistency is maddening.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 7/17, 10:24 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-5 with a solo shot on Thursday. He is now 11 for his last 20.

Our View: Encarnacion is as streaky as they come and its good to see him pick up where he left off before the All-Star break. His homer was his 16th of the season.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 7/15, 3:36 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion is quietly on a hot streak, as he is hitting .533 (8-for-15) over his last four games, wit three doubles, two homers, and three RBI.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/22, 1:33 PM CT

He came down awkwardly after making the stab and did not return to the field for the third inning. Jeff Keppinger, who was activated off the 15-day disabled list before the game, moved over from shortstop to third base. Paul Janish took over at short and replaced Encarnacion in the lineup.

Encarnacion went 1-for-4 with this 12th homer of the season, totaling one RBI and one runs scored on the night.

Our View: Encarnacion was hitting .292 for the month of June coming into tonight, though his three RBIs fails to make fantasy owners too happy.

Edwin Encarnacion was out of the Reds lineup on Saturday as he is still suffering from a swollen left elbow, the result of a HBP on Friday, according to MLB.com. "You play with a swollen, rusty hinge, boy, with that front elbow, that's bat speed right there," manager Dusty Baker said. "I told him to get some treatment. He fought me on it. Hopefully, he'll be ready tomorrow or the next day."

Our View: Andy Phillips started in place of Edwin on Saturday who had recently rediscovered his swing at the plate hitting .304 over the past seven games.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 6/7, 9:16 AM CT

Like teammate Ken Griffey Jr., Edwin Encarnacion will be given the night off on Thursday to help rest his body and mind, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Edwin is hitting only .234 this season, partially the result of a recent 5-for-37 spell. Encarnacion has long been a boom or bust option, and right now it's been mostly a bust for him.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 5/10, 4:14 PM CT
Mets starter Johan Santana may have enjoyed the offensive support needed for a win, but the Cincinnati Reds managed to put wood on the ball. 3B Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-5 at the dish, hitting his eighth homer of the season. Encarnacion totaled two RBIs, two runs scored, and three runners left on the base.

Our View: Encarnacion has seen his batting average go into steadily decline this month, touting just two hits over six games coming into today. Today may serve as a reversal of fortunes moving forward.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 4/28, 10:28 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion continues to swing a sweet stick recording a pair of RBI doubles that helped the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

Our View: The Reds third baseman is doing everything right. Not only did Encarnacion drive in the game winning run, he made a game saving play in seventh inning to preserve the Monday night win. In his third full season Encarnacion is finally getting it. He has six home runs, 14 RBI, 15 runs scored and is hitting .298 on the season. Throw in a stolen base for good measure and what you get is a starting option in all formats.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 4/21, 9:58 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion hit his fifth home run of the season on Monday night as he pushed his average up to .273 thanks to two hits.

Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 4/20, 11:04 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion assisted the Brewers take a 3-1 lead in the top of the 10th by committing an error on a hurried throw to second base. The Reds third baseman redeemed himself by hitting a 10th inning home run, sparking the Reds to their eighth victory of the season.

Our View: Encarnacion has four home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in April. The streaky hitter has always been a liability in the field, and an inconsistent hitter. However, his upside is he's capable of tearing the cover off the ball for a week at a time.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 4/10, 3:03 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion benefited from sitting out Wednesday to take extensive batting practice, as he bounced back today against the Brewers by going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run. Hopefully he can stay on track.

He hit on the field. Just give him a day off and give Ryan Freel a start." Hopefully he can benefit, and get on track soon.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 4/2, 10:03 PM CT
Edwin Encarnacion rebounded from an early error to hit a game-winning home run for the Reds in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday night. Encarnacion struck out twice on the night and will have to manage the strike zone better to reach the heights that some are predicting for him this season. With health, Encarnacion has a solid chance to be a top-15 third basemen this season.

Edwin Encarnacion's spring average dropped to .172 on Tuesday, but his manager isn't worried. "I mean, you've got to look at the back of his bubblegum card. Guys that hit are gonna hit. Right now, he's off," Dusty Baker tells the Cincinnati Enquirer. "Right now, he's not covering the ball away, and he seems like everybody knows it." Baker sounds more confident than fantasy owners right now.

Edwin Encarnacion had two hits on Thursday, including a grand slam, on his way to six RBI for the Reds. Encarnacion will look to take the next step with his game this year, and if he does he could make an excellent late round gamble at the third base position this year.

The Reds sent Edwin Encarnacion to Triple-A on Thursday after his two errors at third base set up three unearned runs on Wednesday night (the Reds lost to the Astros 3-2), according to the AP. "Last night was a tough game for us to lose and a tough game for him personally," general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "But I don't want to say last night was the reason. There were other things leading up. He'd get on a little bit of a stretch where he'd show some consistency, but it wasn't for long. It's up to him now to get down to work and prove us wrong, that he belonged here all the time. I'm confident he can." Encarnacion has struggled at the plate this year, as well, hitting just .218 with one home run in 101 games. Ryan Freel should get the majority of the at-bats at third base for the time being.
