Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 2/22, 11:14 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez stated that his surgically-repaired right knee is feeling great, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He was fielding grounders today, and ran sprints at 80 percent speed.

Our View: This is good news, as Vazquez noted that he was still bothered by his knee last week. He won't hold much fantasy value as a backup middle infielder if healthy though.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 2/18, 11:06 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez is still being bothered by a knee ailment that he sustained back in August, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Vazquez damaged cartilage and is still unable to run at full speed. He will be limited for the first few days of upcoming workouts, but is optimistic he will be ready to go for opening day. He won't hold much fantasy value as a backup middle infielder though.

Brian Bixler was recalled from the minors with Jack Wilson (sprained finger) placed on the 15-day DL, but skipper John Russell noted that Ramon Vazquez will get the bulk of the starts at shortstop, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Vazquez holds a .161 average over 31 at-bats this season, with no homers or stolen bases, and his fantasy stock does not improve much outside of deeper NL-only leagues, however.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 4/15, 5:45 PM CT
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Ramon Vazquez will start at shortstop in Wednesday night's game against the Astros. He is replacing Jack Wilson, who was scratched due to a bruised finger.

Our View: Vazquez has not been seeing all that many at-bats so far in 2009, and is 3-for-12 on the season entering play tonight. He is not a fantasy option unless he begins starting more often, and even then he probably won't be worth much.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 4/9, 3:41 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez went 1-for-2 with a run scored in Thursday's 2-1 loss at St. Louis.

Our View: Vazquez, who started at third base, recorded the Pirates' lone hit in the loss. That was his second hit over eight at-bats this season.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 12/12, 2:33 PM CT
As expected, the Pirates have signed infielder Ramon Vazquez to a two-year deal worth $4 million, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The Diamondbacks were interested in Vazquez but opted to sign Felipe Lopez instead. Vazquez will provide depth and insurance in case the Pirates part ways with Jack Wilson and/or Freddy Sanchez.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 12/11, 11:54 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez and the Pirates have agreed on the framework of a contract, but he is yet to sign it or take a physical, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Vazquez will likely serve as a backup, because it's looking less and less likely that the Pirates will be able to move Jack Wilson.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 12/11, 10:17 AM CT
The Pirates are nearing a deal with middle infielder Ramon Vazquez, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. It is believed to be a two-year deal for $4 million.

Our View: The Diamondbacks had him on their radar but opted to sign Felipe Lopez instead. The Pirates would add him for insurance in case Jack Wilson and Freddy Sanchez depart.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 11/30, 12:36 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez is not likely to receive salary arbitration from the Rangers, according to MLB.com.

Our View: By doing so, the Rangers would not receive any draft pick compensation if he signs with another club, such as Arizona, who offered him a one-year deal.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 11/24, 11:31 AM CT
The Diamondbacks offered Ramon Vazquez a one-year contract, but the veteran infielder covets a multi-year deal, according to the Arizona Republic. His agent (Melvin Roman) said, "If the right deal comes along, we’re going to jump at it. At the same time, we don’t mind if we have to wait. Ramon is up for anything."

Our View: The Diamondbacks may not be willing to offer the 32-year-old a multi-year deal, especially since he would likely serve in a platoon role.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 11/21, 5:05 PM CT
The Diamondbacks made an offer to free agent Ramon Vazquez, according to the Arizona Republic. Terms were not disclosed, but he is looking for a multi-year deal.

Our View: Arizona would probably use the 32-year-old vet in a platoon at second base, with Orlando Hudson likely departing in free agency.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 11/18, 3:44 PM CT
The Diamondbacks reportedly had several talks with Ramon Vazquez's agent, according to MLB.com. Melvin Roman (his agent) stated, "We've talked a few times. But nothing specific yet. I think we are scheduled to talk later this week."

Our View: The Diamondbacks' top priority is to find a replacement at second base for Orlando Hudson, who is likely to depart in free agency. Vazquez is considered solid defensively and is a left-handed hitter, and would be a nice fit for a mostly right-handed Arizona lineup.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 9/24, 1:00 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez has been suspended for one game for his “aggressive and inappropriate” actions during the seventh inning of Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Angels, according to the AP. He was also fined an undisclosed amount.

Our View: The suspension was scheduled to be served Wednesday against the Athletics, but Vazquez filed an appeal.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 9/21, 1:13 PM CT
Rangers infielder Ramon Vazquez was ejected from Saturday's game by umpire Tom Hallion, and he is still unhappy about it, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I don't think guys like him (Hallion) you can talk to. I don't think he takes pride and will go to the video and see, were they really balls. I don't think he did. I don't know. If you're tired of this because it's the end of the year, just go home. Quit. If you're back hurts back there because you're bending so many pitches, quit. Go home," Vazquez said.

Our View: Vazquez can probably expect a nice little fine for his words, and probably shouldn't expect too many calls in his at-bats today.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 6/25, 2:44 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez continues to hit, slugging his fifth home run for the Rangers in their 4-3 loss against the Astros on Tuesday. He is now hitting .331 on the season.

Our View: Vazquez is a 31-year-old career journeyman on his fifth team in eight years, so who knows how long this will last. In the meantime, continue to ride his hot streak.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 6/21, 10:23 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez had three hits, drove in three runs and scored a run in the Rangers' 13-3 win over the Nats Saturday. Ramon is now hitting .331 on the year.

Our View: Sell high! Sell high!
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 5/9, 12:24 AM CT
Ramon Vazquez had a big night as he went 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI from the second hole in the order for the Rangers.

Our View: Over the last 10 games Vazquez batting average has gone from .192 to .309 as he appears to be taking well to a regular turn in the lineup, something that should continue to occur until Hank Blalock returns to the lineup.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 4/29, 2:28 PM CT
Hank Blalock is expected to go on the DL, and Ramon Vazquez will likely start at third base against the Royals tonight, according to MLB.com. The team is facing righty Brett Tomko, and German Duran would start if they were going against a lefty.

Our View: Vazquez is only 5-for-26 (.192) with one RBI this season. He isn't worth fantasy consideration.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 3/31, 2:51 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez will start at 2B and bat lead-off in the Rangers' season opener as Ian Kinsler was scratched due to a fever, according to the Dallas Morning News. He has a good chance to score runs in the Rangers' solid offense.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 11/21, 4:05 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez signed a one-year contract with the Rangers Wednesday, according to the AP. Terms of the deal were not released. Vazquez, who had been eligible for arbitration, batted .230 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 104 games last season. He'll be used in a similar utility role in 2008.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 5/20, 6:31 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez had three hits (including a homer) while driving in five runs and scoring three in Sunday's 14-1 thumping of the Astros. Vazquez is 6-for-8 with a couple home runs since being called up on Friday. With Hank Blalock out, Vazquez should continue to start at third while he's hot.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 5/17, 8:20 PM CT
The Rangers recalled Ramon Vazquez from Triple-A Oklahoma on Thursday to replace A.J. Murray on their roster. The infielder was hitting .258 with three steals and 27 runs in 132 at-bats there. With Hank Blalock and Jerry Hairston missing Thursday's game due to injuries, the Rangers were looking to add some depth to their infield. Vazquez could stick if either Hairston or Blalock are forced to the disabled list.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 8/12, 8:42 PM CT
Ramon Vazquez, who was designated for assignment by the Indians earlier in the day, will not report to Triple-A Buffalo even if he clears waivers, according to the AP. "There's no reason for me to go back to Triple-A for an organization in which I have no future," said Vazquez. "I know I can still play this game, so we'll see if there's a team that wants me."
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 8/12, 7:45 PM CT
After the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, the Indians designated Ramon Vazquez for assignment in order to make room on the roster for Jeremy Guthrie, who was called up to start the second game. Vazquez was hitting .209 in 67 AB for Cleveland this season.
Ramon Vazquez, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 8/11, 6:33 PM CT
The Indians recalled utility infielder Ramon Vazquez from Triple-A Buffalo. Vazquez hit .241 over 23 games there. He will be a reserve and has no fantasy value, though he did start on Friday night for reasons known only to manager Eric Wedge.
