Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/14, 5:59 PM CT
Erik Bedard will be on the shelf for 4-6 months following shoulder surgery Friday revealed a torn labrum and inflamed bursa, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: Bedard should be cut from fantasy leagues, and this is unfortunate for him as he is set to become a free agent after the season. There is belief he won't begin throwing again until December and possibly February.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/12, 6:41 PM CT
According to the Seattle Times, Erik Bedard is scheduled to undergo exploratory surgery on Friday to find out what's wrong with his ailing left shoulder.

Our View: For all intents and purposes Bedard's season is likely over. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum, and he'll be looking for structural damage and fraying of the labrum. If either of those (or both) turns out to be the culprit Bedard's career could be in jeopardy.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/11, 10:16 AM CT
Erik Bedard is scheduled to meet with Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Wedensday for an examination of his injured shoulder, according to MLB.com. Bedard reportedly has fraying in the pitching shoulder, but he will get another opinion from Dr. Yocum.

Our View: Bedard should be used to this process by now, as he has gone through it plenty of times. The guy has so much talent, but he can't stay healthy. It's unfortunate, but that's how it goes sometimes. Don't expect to get much of anything from Bedard the rest of the season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/7, 8:13 PM CT
It has been revealed that Erik Bedard has fraying in his pitching shoulder, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Skipper Don Wakamatsu indicated that the Mariners are waiting for its doctors to compare and review Bedard's MRI results before deciding the next step. Bedard's return to the hill this season is uncertain.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/5, 6:31 PM CT
Erik Bedard will undergo an MRI Friday after experiencing soreness in his ailing left shoulder during Tuesday's pen session, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Skipper Don Wakamatsu noted that the soreness in Bedard's shoulder is not as severe, but he will have an MRI as a precaution not to risk further injury. He will likely require a rehab assignment once he is deemed fit to pitch.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/4, 7:44 PM CT
Erik Bedard threw 25 pitches during a bullpen session Tuesday, according to the News Tribune. He is recovering from left shoulder inflammation.

Our View: His session was described as "touchy-feely" by team trainer Rick Griffin, and Bedard is not expected to be ready to pitch when first eligible August 10. He will test his shoulder Wednesday, and will be checked out if he experiences discomfort.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/30, 9:00 AM CT
Erik Bedard was unable to throw a planned bullpen session on Wednesday due to lingering inflammation in his pitching shoulder, according to The Everett Herald.

Our View: It's time to cut and run from Bedard in nonkeeper leagues if you don't have an available DL spot for him. He doesn't appear to be anywhere near a return, and would likely still only throw his customary four or five innings per start were he actually to make it back in 2009.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/26, 1:03 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Seattle Mariners have placed starting pitcher Erik Bedard on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation, according to the team's Twitter page. He is scheduled to have an MRI early this week.

Our View: The team believed Bedard was hurt, and now their fear has been confirmed. This is terrible timing for the team with the trade deadline coming up next week, and it looks like he will not be moved before the deadline is up.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 7/25, 9:11 PM CT
According to the Seattle Times, the Mariners are concerned that Erik Bedard may be suffering from an undisclosed injury.

Our View: Manager Don Wakamatsu commented on his status. "You watch little signs on the mound. Really, the result tells you a lot with a guy that has that good a stuff. It was necessary to have that discussion afterward. I know he doesn't want to say that anything's bothering him. But we'll find out tomorrow in more detail." This is poor timing for Bedard and the M's, due to the trade dealine just a few days away. We'll update his status after some more prying by the Mariners' organization.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 7/25, 8:06 PM CT
Erik Bedard allowed two runs on two hits and four walks before getting yanked after just three innings in Saturday's 10-3 loss to the Indians. He managed to fan six, but was handed his third loss of the season.

Our View: Bedard has a 2.82 ERA on the season, but has been constantly battling injuries and hasn't found a way to go deep into games. He's managed to last at least seven innings just twice all season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/22, 5:22 PM CT
Erik Bedard's next start has been pushed back from Friday to Saturday, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The Mariners pushed him back to give him an extra day of rest, and to ensure that he pitches against Texas in a four-game set at Rangers Ballpark.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/19, 3:39 PM CT
Erik Bedard failed to get out of the fifth inning on Sunday, but the Mariners were still able to best the Indians 5-3 on the road.

Our View: Bedard continued an embarrassing and troubling trend on Sunday, and has now gone longer than six innings just four times in 14 starts this season. He has a good ERA and WHIP, though, and strikes out out a fair amount of batters, so he's still a decent fantasy option.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/12, 8:37 PM CT
Erik Bedard lasted just 5.2 innings on Sunday and didn't factor in the decision of the Mariners' 5-3 win over the Rangers.

Our View: Bedard only allowed two runs on three hits, but he walked four and failed to go deep in a game for the umpteenth time this season. It's been an issue with him and takes some of the shine away from his 2.63 ERA.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/10, 9:13 AM CT
Erik Bedard will have to start pitching deeper into games if he is to get anything substantial in return for the Mariners in a potential trade, according to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times.

Our View: Hard to argue with this. Few potential front end of the rotation pitchers only go longer than 6.2 innings twice in 12 starts like Bedard has this season. He is still capable of striking out a ton of batters, just not late into games when it matters most.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/8, 12:19 AM CT
Erik Bedard managed to strike out eight and allow only two runs in his return from the disabled list on Tuesday, but went just four innings as the Mariners eventually got blown out 12-4 at home.

Our View: Bedard is a great pitcher when he's healthy, but that isn't too often. He will help your fantasy team out for the time being, but could go back on the DL at any time.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/7, 5:41 PM CT
As expected, Erik Bedard has been activated from the DL following his recovery from shoulder inflammation, according to TSN.

Our View: Bedard is slated to return to the Mariners' rotation tonight against the Orioles at Safeco Field. He will be on a pitch count in his first game back, but is still worth penciling into fantasy lineups against his former club.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/7, 12:26 PM CT
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, Mariners' starter Erik Bedard will be on a pitch count of 75-to-80 pitches in his first start Tuesday since coming off the DL. The pitch count is expected to increase to 100 for his next start on Sunday.

Our View: The M's want to play it safe with Bedard tonight, so don't expect him to go much more than five or six innings. Sunday should be a different story, as they might let him go over 100 if he is pitching well.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/6, 8:31 PM CT
Erik Bedard is set to come off the DL and return to the Mariners' rotation for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He has been on the shelf since June 7 while recovering from left shoulder inflammation. He will be on a pitch count in his first game back.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/3, 5:23 PM CT
According to the Seattle Times, Erik Bedard threw a 54-pitch simulated game to test his ailing shoulder.

Our View: Manager Don Wakamatsu said, "He looks as good as I've seen him." Looks like Bedard should be god to go for his return start on Tuesday. Don't expect him to go more than six innings though. Even when he's healthy that's a rarity.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/1, 6:43 PM CT
Erik Bedard is expected to be activated from the DL to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He was initially being considered to return Saturday against Boston, but the Mariners want him to throw a simulated game Friday instead. He will be on a pitch count, and will only work a handful of innings in his first game back following his recovery from shoulder inflammation.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/30, 5:38 PM CT
The Seattle Times reiterated that Erik Bedard could return to the Mariners' rotation Saturday against Boston following his recovery from left shoulder inflammation.

Our View: The Mariners will give him the green light if he can throw 55-60 pitches during a pen session today. Fantasy owners should be pleased to get Bedard back, but he may only be able to work a handful of innings Saturday.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/29, 10:18 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Mariners' starter Erik Bedard is scheduled to throw a bullpen session prior to the team's series opener against the Yankees on Tuesday. If all goes well, the team may decide to pencil him in for a start Saturday against the Red Sox.

Our View: Bedard is close, and assuming all goes well to Tuesday he will be back in the rotation for the weekend trip to Boston. Bedard owners should be ready to activate him, and if he is a free agent in your league it would be a good idea to give him a look if you need some pitching.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/25, 5:14 PM CT
Erik Bedard is slated to throw side sessions Thursday and Saturday while recovering from inflammation in his left shoulder, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Bedard is targeting to return to the Mariners' rotation July 4 at Boston. He held a solid 2.47 ERA over 65.2 innings this season prior to going down.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/24, 10:16 AM CT
According to the Everett Herald, Erik Bedard played catch for seven minutes on Tuesday and reported no pain in his ailing shoulder.

Our View: The Mariners expect Bedard to start one of the games in New York next week. He should be fine to insert into fantasy lineups for his first start.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/19, 7:07 PM CT
Erik Bedard's MRI on his ailing left shoulder came back fine, and the Mariners expect him to return to the rotation in around two weeks, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Bedard will resume throwing next week and could return to the rotation at some point during a series at Yankee Stadium June 30-July 2.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/18, 5:06 PM CT
Erik Bedard is slated for an MRI after being examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles today, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He is on the DL with left shoulder inflammation, and the MRI could help determine when he may be ready to return to Seattle. We will keep you posted on Bedard's status.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/17, 8:15 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Erik Bedard has officially landed on the 15-day DL with left shoulder inflammation, according to the AP. First baseman Mike Carp replaced him on the roster.

Our View: Bedard was having an excellent rebound season after missing most of last season with left shoulder surgery. There's a good chance that this injury is related to the shoulder surgery. There's no word on how long he is expected to be out.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/17, 6:12 PM CT
The Seattle Times reports that Erik Bedard is likely headed to the disabled list. He missed his last start with shoulder inflammation and had to cancel his bullpen session today.

Our View: Bedard is enjoying an excellent season, but his fantasy owners had to anticipate a DL trip was a likely result after selecting him. The move is not official yet, and there's no word how long he would be out of action.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/16, 6:57 PM CT
Erik Bedard threw off flat ground Tuesday while recovering from minor shoulder inflammation, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Bedard was rotating his arm and showed trainers Rick Griffin and Rob Nodine a spot on his shoulder. The club is yet to update his status. He was expected to make his next start June 19 against Arizona if deemed healthy.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/16, 9:21 AM CT
FoxSports.com is reporting that the Brewers appear to be very interested in Mariners' starter Erik Bedard. A source close to Bedard has indicated that the Brewers have had scouts in attendance for several of Bedard's starts over the past few weeks.

Our View: The Brewers will need to make a move for a solid starting pitcher if they are going to stay in the playoff race, and Bedard seems like an excellent candidate assuming he is completely healthy. The Brewers have plenty of depth at the shortstop position, and they would like to translate that depth into a new starting pitcher through the trade market. If Bedard does get moved, look for Milwaukee to be a likely destination.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/12, 7:15 PM CT
Erik Bedard has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to slight shoulder inflammation, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Skipper Don Wakamatsu noted that Bedard could probably pitch, but is holding him out to be safe. He is expected to miss only one start, and is slated to take his next turn June 19 against Arizona. Brandon Morrow will start Saturday at Colorado in his place.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/9, 4:43 PM CT
The Seattle Times' Geoff Baker says there is an excellent chance that Erik Bedard will quality as a Type A free agent this offseason.

Our View: This is important because it would mean the Mariners would be subject to two compensatory draft picks were he to walk. It also gives them more leverage in any potential trade involving Bedard. The burly lefty has pitched excellently in 2009, going 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA and 65 strikeouts.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/7, 7:21 PM CT
Erik Bedard didn't last long on Sunday, but was good enough to earn his fifth win. He allowed two runs on four hits and four walks over five innings in the Mariners' 4-2 win over the Twins.

Our View: Going deep in games has been an issue for Bedard this season. He needed 101 pitches to get through five Sunday and it marked the fifth time this season he hasn't gone six innings in a start.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/3, 12:41 AM CT
Erik Bedard was in command on the mound in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Orioles at Safeco Field, as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over 6.1 innings. He issued three walks and racked up seven strikeouts.

Our View: Bedard improves to 4-2 with a win against his former club, and trimmed his ERA to 2.37. He has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last five starts.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 5/27, 5:52 PM CT
Erik Bedard moved to 3-2 on the season after his impressive outing on Wednesday. Bedard went 6.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits while walking two and striking out five.

Our View: Bedard was coming off his worst start of the year, but he rebounded nicely today. He has been quietly having a very good year so far, with an ERA that now sits at 2.48. He is a solid fantasy option in all leagues, and expect him to conitune to be impressive as long as he stays healthy.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 5/22, 12:14 AM CT
Erik Bedard didn't last long on Thursday. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over five innings and took the loss. He struck out six, but fell to 2-2 on the season.

Our View: Bedard's ERA is just 2.64 this season, and he's shown signs of the pitcher that dominated the AL in 2007, but he's had trouble going deep in games. He's gotten past the sixth just twice and may still be getting back to full strength. It's hard to argue with his numbers while he's on the mound though. He has fanned more than a batter per inning this season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 5/16, 11:28 AM CT
According to the Seattle Times, Erik Bedard will indeed miss his scheduled start on Saturday. He is dealing with a hamstring issue.

Our View: Bedard will be replaced by Garrett Olson and the team is hoping that with the extra rest this will be the only start Bedard misses.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 5/14, 12:16 PM CT
Erik Bedard could be scratched from his next scheduled start Saturday due to a tight right hamstring, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Garrett Olson could replace him Saturday against the Red Sox if needed. The Mariners do not believe Bedard's ailment is serious enough to send him to the DL.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/10, 5:16 PM CT
Erik Bedard struggled through his seventh start this season, as he needed 110 pitches to record 14 outs against the Twins on Sunday. He allowed five hits, five walks, but just two earned runs, while striking out four hitters in the 5-3 loss. He did not factor in the decision.

Our View: This could have been much worse for the southpaw as he only gave up two runs and avoided the loss. Prior to today's effort, he was having a terrific season, and he should resume doing so when he takes to the mound in five more days.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 5/5, 7:02 PM CT
Erik Bedard was excellent again on Tuesday, but his team lost to Texas 7-2 in ten innings. Bedard did his part, going seven innings and allowing one run on seven hits while striking out seven. He did not factor into the decision.

Our View: Bedard has been phenomenal so far in 2009, and he continued that today. His ERA is at 2.37, and he is striking out just over a hitter per inning. Bedard is a strong play in all leagues.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/25, 12:13 AM CT
Erik Bedard pitched well again on Friday as the Mariners beat the Angels 8-3. Bedard went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. He did not walk a batter.

Our View: Bedard has been very good to start 2009, and he picked up his second win of the season. He appears to have found his 2007 form, and his fantasy value continues to rise.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/18, 11:53 PM CT
Erik Bedard lost a tough one on Saturday as he only allowed one earned run over six innings and struck out eight. He gave up seven hits and two walks in the Mariners' 2-0 loss to the Tigers.

Our View: It looks like the Bedard of 2007 might be back. He had more injury complications and bouts of ineffectiveness during spring training, but has sparkled this season with a 1.86 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 20.1 innings. If you gambled on him this year it could pay off in a big way.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 4/12, 5:59 PM CT
Erik Bedard was impressive in 8.1 innings against the A's on Sunday. He allowed three hits, one walk, and no runs, while fanning seven in Seattle's 1-0 win.

Our View: Bedard threw 102 pitches in the game, and he probably would have been given the chance to finish the game if the team had more of a lead. He appears healthy and in line to have a nice rebound season for the Mariners.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/7, 10:41 PM CT
Erik Bedard hurled five innings in his season debut against the Twins on Tuesday. He allowed three runs and six hits in Seattle's 6-5 loss.

Our View: Bedard's short outing was to be expected for his first start of the season. In his 85 pitches, however, he showed good command, did not walk a batter, and fanned eight batters.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 3/27, 6:54 PM CT
Erik Bedard lasted only three innings and allowed six runs on four hits and four walks. He was tagged with his first loss of the spring.

Our View: All of his outings have been brief this spring and he has yet to truly shake off the notions that he's not completely healthy. Drafty with caution, but if he's right he has huge upside.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 3/22, 9:52 PM CT
Erik Bedard scattered two hits and three walks, but no runs in 2.2 innings of work as the Mariners fell to the Cubs 5-3 on Sunday.

Our View: Bedard has not lasted very long in any of his spring outings, but he has not been hit much either. In 8.1 innings, over four starts, he has allowed only one run while striking out five. He has been dealing with soreness tin his legs this spring, and some time on the DL is almost to be expected in 2009.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/16, 7:53 PM CT
Erik Bedard made the start in Monday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers. He only threw one inning while allowing two hits, a walk, and an earned run.

Our View: Bedard had been dealing with some soreness in his lower body prior to the start. Hopefully he can up his pitch count significantly enough to be a part of the Mariners opening day rotation.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/11, 12:25 PM CT
Erik Bedard has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled due to a sore hip. The injury is thought to be muscle, not joint, related and isn't considered serious, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: Not thought to be serious, but anything having to do with Bedard's hip is concerning. Keep a close eye on him and make sure this issue doesn't escalate if you plan on selecting Bedard on draft day.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 3/5, 5:07 PM CT
Erik Bedard started against the Angels Thursday and had a productive outing, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings. He allowed only one walk and one hit while striking out three.

Our View: Bedard will likely drop on draft day due to his injury concerns, but when healthy he is an elite fantasy starter. A high risk/high reward type player at this point, but he could make your rotation. If you can grab him with a mid-round pick consider it a steal.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 2/27, 8:29 PM CT
Erik Bedard allowed two hits in two innings, but also got two double plays in order to face just the minimum six batters.

Our View: Bedard managed just 81 innings last season and there are still some questions about his durability. When he is healthy, he is among the better starting left handers in the game.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 2/24, 7:55 PM CT
Erik Bedard pitched a scoreless inning in an intrasquad game Tuesday, signifying the passing of his first test in his recovery from shoulder surgery, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: As a result of Tuesday's outing, Bedard said he is fit to pitch in an exhibition game against the Dodgers Friday.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 2/15, 9:56 PM CT
Seattle left-hander Erik Bedard announced Sunday his surgically repaired throwing shoulder is in good shape, shortly after completing a 12-minute throwing session, according to the Associated Press. It was Bedard's first workout off a mound since undergoing a procedure to have a cyst removed from his left shoulder last September.

Our View: The Mariners will be looking for big dividends from Bedard this season, who, if healthy, can provide one of the AL's top pitching duos with fellow starter Felix Hernandez.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 1/22, 6:22 PM CT
TSN reports that Erik Bedard will be ready for the start of spring training. He has not pitched since July 10, but he is reportedly fully recovered from his shoulder surgery.

Our View: Bedard made a disappointing 15 starts in his first season with the Mariners. He went 6-4 with a 3.67 ERA in 81 innings pitched. We expect him to be a much better performer in 2009, but he may struggle to get wins while playing for a weak Seattle team.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 1/20, 5:16 PM CT
The LA Times reports that starter Erik Bedard's deal with the Mariners is worth $7.5 million, with incentives that total as much as $650,000.

Our View: Both parties avoided arbitration with Tuesday's deal, but it was unlikely that Bedard, who suffered mightily from shoulder problems in 2008, would have gotten an amount that exceeds what the M's agreed to pay him.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 1/20, 1:41 PM CT
The Mariners have avoided salary arbitration with Erik Bedard by inking the hurler to a one-year deal, according to the News Tribune. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: If healthy, Bedard will form a solid 1-2 punch in the rotation with Felix Hernandez. He looks to potentially rank as a favorable value pick for 2009.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 12/29, 1:53 PM CT
There is a rumor that the Yankees are talking to the Mariners about a trade involving pitcher Erik Bedard for outfielder Hideki Matsui, according to BleedingBlueandTeal.com. Peter Gammons originally reported the news on ESPN radio.

Our View: The Mariners covet a productive outfielder with power after losing Raul Ibanez, and Matsui would fill their need. But losing Bedard would be tough as he is the ace of the Mariners' pitching staff, assuming he bounces back healthy. If he lands with the Yankees, the club would have four ace hurlers in their rotation with CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang and Erik Bedard.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 12/8, 2:29 PM CT
Erik Bedard received good news regarding his ailing throwing shoulder, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: He was examined this morning by Dr. Lewis Yocum, who cleared him to start a throwing program. Barring a setback, he has a shot to be ready for the start of spring training.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 12/2, 9:44 AM CT
The Mariners have been pleased with Erik Bedard's progress in his recovery from shoulder surgery, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Barring a setback, Bedard could be ready for spring training.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 11/23, 4:32 PM CT
Erik Bedard is nearing the point where he will be cleared to begin throwing, this after having shoulder surgery on September 26th, according to the Everett Herald.

Our View: Bedard is hopefully of starting a throwing program by mid-December, and if everything goes well the hope is that he will be back at full strength by late March, though even this best case scenario would almost certainly mean he wouldn't be able to contribute until late April.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 10/6, 12:55 PM CT
Erik Bedard is slated to start his rehab from his shoulder surgery Tuesday, according to The News Tribune. He said, "They cleaned up the fraying on my labrum and took out the cyst. I start rehab tomorrow."

Our View: Tuesday is only 12 days after he underwent surgery. What happens next depends on how Bedard’s rehab progresses, and he’ll return to Seattle this winter before picking up a baseball again. But by spring training, he’s been told he should be close to 100 percent.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 9/27, 12:17 PM CT
Erik Bedard could be ready by spring training after undergoing successful surgery to remove a cyst from his labrum according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Original recovery time was six months, but the latest reports indicate that with a successful rehab, he could be ready to go by spring. This is certainly positive news, as the once dominant Bedard, along with Felix Hernandez, was expected to anchor a Seattle staff that was in shambles most of the year. Bedard started just 15 games in his first season with Seattle.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/26, 5:47 PM CT
Erik Bedard underwent surgery today to remove a cyst in his shoulder area, and it has been revealed that he does not have a tear in either his labrum or rotator cuff, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: This is encouraging news as his status is not as bad as initially believed. Under normal circumstances, he could recover from the surgery in six months.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 9/18, 9:32 AM CT
Erik Bedard indicated than an MRI exam earlier this season revealed a tear in his left labrum as well as a cyst, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He said, "We tried rehab and it got better, but it never got good. The pain was less at times, but I always felt it."

Our View: He is going to have exploratory surgery on his shoulder and rehab can take six to nine months. He is expected to pitch again for the Mariners in 2009, but not in the first half of the season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/16, 8:01 PM CT
Erik Bedard will undergo exploratory surgery on his left shoulder a week from Friday, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The Mariners aren't sure what is wrong with Bedard, hence the "exploratory" tag. Hopefully it's not a rotator cuff issue and is just a minor cleanup. We'll let you know how the surgery turns out.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/16, 10:03 AM CT
Mariners left-hander Erik Bedard will workout on Wednesday, and if all goes well, will throw a simulated game over the weekend, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Bedard has been a huge bust for the Mariners this season, and for fantasy owners as well. It is unknown whether or not he will make any more starts this season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/12, 10:41 AM CT
Erik Bedard, who is recovering from left shoulder stiffness, threw a bullpen session Thursday, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. There was no plan to have him throw, but he told pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre he was ready. Manager Jim Riggleman said, "He looked good. He went a little hard today. We don't know yet if he's going to be able to pitch for us before the season's over, though."

Our View: This is encouraging news, but Bedard is still doubtful to return this season with only around two weeks left.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/26, 11:53 AM CT
It remains unclear if Erik Bedard (left shoulder stiffness) will return to the Mariners this season, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: The Mariners don't have a set time for Bedard to get back on a bullpen mound to prepare for a return to the rotation, and the team remains unsure if he will pitch again this season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/20, 9:58 AM CT
Mariners' pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre doubts that Erik Bedard will be ready to throw off a mound Saturday (as was scheduled), according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Bedard is dealing with left shoulder stiffness.

Our View: Bedard has been throwing off flat ground over the last several days, but the team did not state if he suffered a setback.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 8/18, 12:23 PM CT
Erik Bedard, who is recovering from left shoulder stiffness, threw on the side Sunday for the third straight day, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: The lefty could throw on a mound this week during a three-game set in Chicago, but it's more likely he won't get on a mound until the Mariners return home Thursday to begin a four-game series with the Athletics. He has a shot to return to Seattle by the end of August, but the team doesn't have an exact timetable.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/8, 10:53 AM CT
Mariners' skipper Jim Riggleman commented that he has seen a "big change" in Erik Bedard over the last 10 days in his recovery from left shoulder stiffness, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Bedard played catch again Thursday, while making 50 throws and feeling comfortable. Riggleman said he is throwing a "firm" ball. He will throw again Saturday and Sunday.

Our View: Barring a setback, he could be throwing off a mound soon, and has a shot to return to Seattle by the end of August.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/3, 5:28 PM CT
Erik Bedard threw in the outfield for about 10 minutes on Sunday in his attempt to return from an injured shoulder, according to the Associated Press. This was the first time he has thrown in a month (July 4th).

Our View: Bedard made 30 throws from 60 feet and no setbacks were reported. Given that he has missed a month, he would certainly need a couple of minor league starts before climbing back on the hill for the Orioles putting his return, most likely, near the end of August.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/1, 1:51 PM CT
Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard is not scheduled to play catch until this weekend, and may not be ready to pitch in a major league game until September, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Bedard hasn't been bad for Seattle, but he has underperformed, like most of the rest of the team. It's not 100% that he'll come back at all, so if he is on your fantasy team, monitor his progress this weekend then decide if you want to go forward with him on your roster.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/30, 9:25 AM CT
Erik Bedard is still sore and isn't ready to throw, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Jim Riggleman did note that a training regimen put together by conditioning coach Allen Wirtala seems to be having some impact. Riggleman said, "I see the work he's doing in the weight room, and it looks like he has more freedom of motion. Maybe he'll be throwing again pretty soon."

Our View: As was stated before, just keep Bedard stashed away and hope he returns to make an impact during the stretch run of the season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/28, 8:50 AM CT
Manager Jim Riggleman noted that Erik Bedard still isn't to the point where he can throw, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Riggleman added that it is going to take time, and is unsure when it is going to be.

Our View: Even once Bedard agrees to resume throwing it will be quite a while before he is able to return to the starting rotation. He hasn't pitched since July 4 against the Tigers and will require at least a couple of bullpen sessions before he can appear in a game. The team also prefers him to make at least two rehab starts in order to regain strength in his left arm. Fantasy owners cannot count on seeing Bedard back in their lineups until at least mid-August.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/24, 9:06 AM CT
The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that the Mariners have officially given up on having left-handed starter Erik Bedard pitch in a game before the July 31 trade deadline.

Our View: Bedard is 6-4 with a 3.67 ERA this season. As long as he is on the DL, he cannot be traded.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:42 AM CT
Erik Bedard's MRI revealed the original diagnosis of an internal impingement in his left shoulder, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Bedard was eligible to come off the DL this week, but he hasn't even been able to throw a bullpen session. The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31, and for Bedard to be dealt, he would have to show he is healthy.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/22, 6:54 PM CT
The Mariners report LHP Erik Bedard is awaiting results from an MRI exam performed today, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The report comes via the Times blogs, thus we are hoping to have results in the coming hours. Earlier this week we reported Bedard is not likely to make a start until at least August due to a sore left shoulder, and it now appears the Mariners are concerned there is more reason for concern. We'll keep you posted.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/18, 11:14 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, we are now receiving word that Seattle LHP Erik Bedard , nursing a sore left shoulder, is not likely to pitch until August, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Our original report suggested Bedard would be held out until late July, hoping to get one start to showcase his talents before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline. Now the Mariners are reporting he won't be ready for that work either. Bedard's left shoulder did not improve over the All-Star break, so he will not even throw a baseball until Monday when will try to play catch. If that goes well, Bedard could throw a bullpen session next week, but the team is not trying to get him back pitching in game before the trading deadline just so it can showcase him to potential suitors.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/18, 12:38 PM CT
Erik Bedard, who is on the DL with a sore left shoulder, may not pitch early next week as was previously hoped, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Manager Jim Riggleman said, "We want to get him going, but we don't want to rush him. The perception is that Erik hasn't given us a lot, or as much as he should. But really, maybe he's given us more than he should have. We should know more in two or three days."

Our View: That means Bedard would have just one start for the team to showcase him before the non-waiver trading deadline July 31, assuming his shoulder is healthy again by then. He is rumored to be on the radar of a few playoff contenders. Also of note, major league rules prohibit teams from trading players while they are on the DL, unless such a deal is approved by the commissioner.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/14, 10:59 AM CT
Erik Bedard, who is on the DL due to left shoulder stiffness, is "50-50" to make his next scheduled start on July 22, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: The Mariners are making some effort to trade Bedard, but his lack of time on the mound is complicating their plan. The Mariners don't know when Bedard will return to the rotation, and R.A. Dickey will be ready to go if he cannot make his next start on the 22nd.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/10, 1:01 PM CT
Erik Bedard was placed on the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his shoulder, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Bedard has disappointed the Mariners somewhat, but his numbers are still serviceable in fantasy leagues, with a 1.32 WHIP and 3.67 ERA, though he has notched only six wins.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/9, 2:02 PM CT
Erik Bedard won't start Saturday, and will be shut down until after the All-Star break, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Manager Jim Riggleman said, "Saturday won't be Bedard, he has tightness in his arm. So he won't pitch before the break. We figured let's just take advantage of the four days off at the All-Star break to get rid of nagging injuries."

Our View: The plan is to have Bedard's next start come about July 21. The source indicates that he could potentially go on the DL when Felix Hernandez comes off, but the Mariners didn't say so.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/8, 9:10 PM CT
The Seattle Times reports that Erik Bedard will not make another start prior to the All-Star break.

Our View: This is not good news for fantasy owners. Bedard has tightness in his pitching shoulder which is among the worst injuries for a starter to come up with.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/8, 2:18 PM CT
Erik Bedard could return to the rotation as soon as Saturday, but the club will wait until he throws more in the next couple of days before making a final decision, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He is dealing with tightness in his left shoulder.

Our View: It was previously believed that the team may hold him out until after the All-Star break.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/7, 6:11 PM CT
Tightness in Erik Bedard's throwing shoulder will result in the southpaw missing his next start. Originally scheduled to take the hill on Wednesday, it now looks like the Mariners will hold him out until after the All Star break.

Our View: Don't count on Bedard simply being pushed back; expect the left-hander to miss the next two weeks offering his shoulder some much needed rest and relaxation.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/6, 2:57 PM CT
Erik Bedard is experiencing tightness in his left shoulder and skipper Jim Riggleman has decided to push his next start back, according to the Tacoma Tribune.

Our View: No exact timetable has been set for his return to the rotation.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 7/5, 8:13 PM CT
Erik Bedard has had a largely ineffective campaign in his first year in Seattle, and there is growing concern that there might be a physical reason for that, according to the Seattle Times. "I don't think he's really totally feeling right, with whatever was happening before -- hip, back and all that," manager Jim Riggleman said. "He may be pitching a lot more than he should."

Our View: Just what the team was looking for in their attempts to move the unhappy Bedard. No specific diagnosis was given, but the fact that Bedard continues to fail to go deep into games could easily lead one to surmise that he is indeed operating at less than 100%.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/4, 6:18 PM CT
Erik Bedard was in solid form in Friday's 4-1 win over the Tigers at home, as he only surrendered one earned run on five hits over five innings, with three walks and six strikeouts. The only run came on a Miguel Cabrera home run.

Our View: Bedard has pitched well when healthy this season, and he now has a two-game winning streak, and has only allowed one run in both outings. He is 6-4 and trimmed his ERA to 3.67. Keep him active in your lineups.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/3, 10:15 AM CT
Erik Bedard is being scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies as a potential trade acquisition in order to bolster their rotation, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Bedard has been a bit of a disappointment in Seattle, with a 5-4 record and 3.79 ERA. It's difficult to say a change of scenery sill help him, because he is in his first season with the Mariners. Going to the National League could raise his fantasy value, although leaving spacious Safeco Field for the more intimate confines of Philly's Citizens Bank Park may offset that.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/29, 6:31 PM CT
Erik Bedard didn't bring his "A" game on Sunday, but he was good enough to improve to 5-4. The southpaw, who missed his last start due to back spasms, held the Padres to three hits and one run over 5.2 innings. Bedard walked three and struck out three.

Our View: Bedard was a bit wild (51 strikes, 94 pitches), but fantasy owners will take it. He has had an inconsistent year (partially due to injuries), and we hope he can feed off this effort and start to pile up better digits.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/25, 6:21 PM CT
Erik Bedard, out with back spasms, threw in the bullpen on Wednesday without incident, according to MLB.com. If he suffers no setback from the outing, the team is hopeful that Bedard will be able to start on Sunday in place of the injured Felix Hernandez. If Bedard cannot go on Sunday, R.A. Dickey would likely start.

Our View: Bedard has continued to be plagued by ineffectiveness and injury for most of the season making it very tough to count on him each time he takes the hill. Still, he can be dominating, so it's hard to leave him on the pine when the team calls his name.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/24, 7:23 PM CT
Erik Bedard has been scratched from his Wednesday start due to back spasms, but he could be a candidate to fill in for Felix Hernandez Sunday if King Felix's ankle prevents him from making the start, according to the AP.

Our View: It's also still possible Bedard could land on the DL, so stay tuned.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/24, 9:27 AM CT
Erik Bedard may need a second trip to the DL this season due to his back spasms, according to the Seattle Times. Acting manager Jim Riggleman said, "I don't think we're thinking that way yet. With an off-day Thursday, who knows? Maybe he can come back shortly after the off day."

Our View: Bedard has officially been scratched from his start on Wednesday, and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre does not have him penciled into the rotation for this weekend's set against the Padres.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/23, 5:19 PM CT
ESPN is reporting that Erik Bedard is likely to miss his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday. The lefty exited his last start with back spasms. Miguel Batista is expected to fill in for him.

Our View: Bedard was reportedly feeling much better a day after suffering the injury, but it appears the M's will play it safe and skip him. At this point, a DL stint would appear unlikely.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/23, 1:28 PM CT
Erik Bedard's back spasms are improving, but it remains uncertain if he will be able to make his next scheduled start, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Miguel Batista would cover his turn in the rotation scheduled for Wednesday against the Mets if Bedard is ultimately unable to go.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/21, 7:47 PM CT
The Mariners received some good news Saturday when Erik Bedard's back spasms felt much better after a good night of sleep. "He felt considerably better today," manager Jim Riggleman said on MLB.com. "I was concerned like everybody that sleeping on it, he would wake up really uncomfortable today. But it felt significantly better today." The M's aren't sure if Bedard will make his next start. "We'll see how it is, literally day to day," Riggleman said.

Our View: This is about as good of news as Bedard owners could have expected. He might miss a start, but it sounds like a DL stint probably won't be needed.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 6/20, 7:42 PM CT
Erik Bedard pitched three scoreless innings before being forced from his start on Friday night with an apparent injury that is being called back spasms, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Based on his work thus far, Bedard can be labeled as an unqualified bust so far having dealt with numerous health issues which have led to merely average numbers.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/15, 12:03 AM CT
Seattle LHP Erik Bedard wasn't dominating, but he pitched well enough for the win. The relief pitching failed to secure such reward as Seattle fell 5-2 to Washington. Bedard pitched six innings to allow two runs (both earned) on nine hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Bedard has been a bit up and down lately, but losing starts like this to no-decisions is disappointing to say the least.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/8, 5:37 PM CT
Seattle LHP Erik Bedard threw nice game today off the mound but the offensive support failed to join the effort as the Mariners fell 2-1 to Boston. Bedard threw five innings to allow just one run on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Bedard walked off the mound with no decision, just his third no-decision in 11 starts. Through his last five starts he has totaled 11 walks versus 27 strikeouts.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 5/28, 11:24 PM CT
Erik Bedard bounced back from a rough outing last Friday with a gem Wednesday night, tossing seven scoreless innings against the Red Sox, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Our View: Aside from a couple duds, Bedard has been everything the M's have expected from him, though he is walking a few too many guys.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 5/23, 9:17 PM CT
Erik Bedard was lit up by the Yankees bats Friday, as the lefty allowed nine runs on eight hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings. Bedard's ERA ballooned to 4.70.

Our View: Bedard has had two really bad outings but has otherwise been terrific for the M's. You don't need to worry about him.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 5/12, 11:43 PM CT
Left-hander Erik Bedard who threw a gem against the Rangers this past week by surrendering six hits and two runs over seventh innings for his third straight quality start, lasted a mere two innings on Monday night. Bedard allowed six runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out two.

Our View: While Bedard wasn't sharp on Monday night, any pitcher that would by their own will pitch in Rangers Park for a living is out of their mind. Hit a ball in the air in Arlington, and chances are it will fly out of the ballpark.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 11:47 PM CT
Left-hander Erik Bedard pitched a superb game in his last start against the Rangers at Safeco Field, surrendering six hits and two runs over seventh innings. It was his third straight quality start, but he has only one win to show for it. The Mariners' offense has produced one run for Bedard in the last 14 innings he has pitched. Right-handed hitters are batting .157 (13-for-83) against him.

Our View: Bedard and the M's travel to Texas on Monday for the start of a three-game series.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 5/8, 12:10 AM CT
Erik Bedard had another strong start for the Mariners on Wednesday night as he limited the Rangers to two runs over seven innings. Bedard walked only one batter while striking out five as he allowed six hits on the night though he fell to 2-2 with the loss.

Our View: After missing time with injury and struggling with his control, Bedard now owns a 1.99 ERA through five starts as he continues to push for the title of top left handed starter in the AL now that Johan Santana is in the NL with the Metropolitans.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 5/2, 10:08 PM CT
Erik Bedard was the victim of poor glove work by his infielders, and in his second start since returning from a hip injury, was outstanding. He allowed four hits in seven innings, none after the second, and struck out six and walked one, retiring his final 14 batters.

Our View: Bedard is traditionally a slow starter but his last two starts offer plenty of evidence he's healthy and ready to help the Mariners win games this summer.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 4/27, 8:40 AM CT
Seattle LHP Erik Bedard made his first trip to the mound since returning from left hip inflammation last night and was surprisingly effective, according to CBSSports.com. In his first start in three weeks, Bedard displayed strong command of his location and worked various parts of the strike zone with relative ease, giving up just two hits over 6 2/3 innings, failing to surrender a single run.

Our View: Bedard balanced four walks with four strike outs and reported his own pleasure in picking up his second win of the season. "I felt pretty good," Bedard told reporters after the game. "I wasn't expecting (to go) that (long), but went through good, and we won the game." Fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited, though the performance is certainly one to note. The hope is to see Bedard progress forward without physical setback, for we know the arm can get the job done.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/26, 11:39 PM CT
Erik Bedard gave up just two hits in 6.2 scoreless innings as the Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics 5-3 on Saturday night.

Our View: Bedard, who hadn't pitched since April 8th, was bit rusty tonight, but looked like a pitcher in control of a game. The ex-Oriole issued four walks, a double to Bobby Crosby and a single to Emil Brown while striking out four on 95 pitches.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 4/25, 9:10 AM CT
Erik Bedard threw a bullpen session on Thursday and came out of it with a clean bill of health, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The lefty ace is scheduled to return to the rotation Saturday against Oakland.

Our View: Fantasy owners can stop worrying about his hip ailment, and he should return to your lineups on Saturday. He has eight walks and a 1.45 WHIP over 11 innings, but both numbers should decrease now that he is healthy.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/22, 6:47 PM CT
Erik Bedard will return to the mound on Saturday against the Athletics, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer confirms. He is on the DL due to left hip inflammation.

Our View: It took a little juggling, but the Mariners have bought a couple extra days for the southpaw. Fantasy owners will want to use Bedard as soon as they can activate him.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/19, 10:09 PM CT
Erik Bedard threw a 38-pitch bullpen session on Saturday and reported no issues with his injured hip, this according to MLB.com. "Bedard threw the ball well," manager John McLaren said. "He had good breaking stuff."

Our View: Bedard will throw another bullpen session on Tuesday and if that also goes well he could be activated to start on Thursday against his former team the Orioles.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 4/19, 12:37 PM CT
Seattle pitcher Erik Bedard , working to return from an ailing hip, will continue his work towards return when he throws off a mound today, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: The team is hoping to get him back in the starting rotation later this week, targeting Thursday as a potential start date. "We want to see how he's able to drive off the mound with his hip," said manager John McLaren. Bedard is eligible to come off the DL on April 24th, but we will have to track his progress in the coming days.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 4/17, 8:47 AM CT
Erik Bedard, who is on the 15-day DL due to hip inflammation, will throw a bullpen session on Friday in Anaheim, according to the Seattle Times. Bedard noted that he felt fine after playing catch on Wednesday. The team has been secretive about what is causing the inflammation, among speculation that the injury is more serious than the team is letting on. An MRI was taken over the weekend, but Manager John McLaren said he had no further information on it.

Our View: This is not a favorable start for the Mariners' new ace pitcher. Hopefully he will bounce back fine.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/15, 5:39 PM CT
Bedard has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, this according to ESPN SportsCenter.

Our View: There is no word yet on who will fill his spot among the starting five. It's likely Bedard will miss only one more start and return to his slot in the rotation when he's eligible to return. R.A. Dickey is the likely candidate to replace the left-hander for Friday's start.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/15, 9:30 AM CT
Erik Bedard is making favorable progress on his hip ailment, and it appears he isn't headed for the DL, according to the Seattle Times. Manager John McLaren noted that Bedard is feeling better and added, "Hopefully, this will be short term." Bedard will throw a bullpen session before he returns to game action, and it could happen as soon as today.

Our View: This is favorable news for the Mariners' new ace. Hopefully he will return to your fantasy rotation soon.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 4/13, 2:48 PM CT
LHP Erik Bedard has been officially scratched from his scheduled start against Los Angeles today due to inflammation in his left hip, according to the Sports Network. Bedard missed his scheduled start against Baltimore on April 6th for similar reasons, but he has since hit the mound, earning his first win of the season on Tuesday after allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings at Tampa Bay.

Our View: Today, RHP Cha Seung Baek will get the call in place of Bedard. The team has given no indication of long-term fear or prognosis, though the injury is considered minor.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/8, 1:21 PM CT
Erik Bedard is set to return to the hill against the Rays on Tuesday, after being previously scratched with a sore hip, according to MLB.com. Bedard will be looking to extend his five-game winning streak against Tampa Bay, in which he has surrendered an average of 2.33 runs per game during the streak. He has a 6-2 career record at Tropicana Field, and holds the upper hand against rival starter Matt Garza, who currently holds a 8.44 ERA.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 4/7, 7:58 AM CT
Erik Bedard is expected to start on Tuesday against the Rays. He threw in the bullpen on Sunday after being scratched due to a sore left hip. "We just wanted to make sure the ball was coming out of his hand free and easy," pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre tells the Seattle Times. "His normal bullpen session is usually about eight minutes and this one was for six minutes, so that's pretty much a normal day for him." Fantasy owners should plan on using Bedard this week.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 4/6, 7:18 AM CT
Erik Bedard has been scratched from his Sunday start against Baltimore, according to the Sports Network. He was set to face his old team, but will miss the game due to inflammation in his left hip. The severity of the ailment is yet to be known.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/31, 10:23 PM CT
Erik Bedard allowed three hits, one of those a solo home run to All Star Michael Young, and struck out five in five innings of work. The Seattle newcomer walked four, one short of his career high, and went to full counts on 10 of his first 18 batters. Bedard still doesn't have full command of his arsenal and the high pitch count resulted in the short five inning outing. Bedard should put up similar numbers to his 2007 statline in Baltimore, with the upside being more wins and a better ERA and WHIP.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/31, 10:24 AM CT
Erik Bedard prefers to pitch the old-fashioned way, according to MLB.com. He doesn't like to use scouting reports and stats and prefers to pitch on his own, and added, "That's the way I have always done it. I pitch my game. When I do badly, people say, 'It's the wrong thing to do and he should do those things,' but it has worked for me." Bedard is an elite pitcher and should continue to do what works for him.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/26, 5:50 PM CT
Erik Bedard earned a sloppy win against the Royals on Wednesday as he allowed four runs on five hits (two home runs) over six innings, with three walks and two strikeouts. It is nice to get solid run support as the Mariners offense got him off the hook with a 8-5 win. His spring ERA climbs to 8.63 and hopefully he can end spring training on a high note.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/22, 10:30 AM CT
Erik Bedard has given up seven home runs in his three spring starts. This after permitting only 19 in 182 innings with the Orioles last season. The hard-throwing left-hander has given up 19 earned runs in March leaving his ERA at 9.50. While it is just spring, it would be nice to see the newly acquired Bedard, put one solid performance together before the start of the regular season.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 3/21, 7:00 PM CT
Another outing, another poor result for Erik Bedard as he gave up nine hits and seven runs in five innings on Friday, this according to the AP. “I felt good,” Bedard said. “I just gave up a lot of runs.” The team believes that the weather may be affecting Bedard's grip on the ball. “I would think that had a lot to do with it,” manager John McLaren said. “He’s a veteran pitcher. He knows what he’s got to do.” Don't believe that no one in the Mariners camp isn't nervous. Bedard has been torched for seven HR in his last three starts, and his ERA this spring is 9.50. It's too early to panic, but those of you who drafted Bedard in the second or third round might be getting a lesson in why it's smarter to draft hitting over pitching early in the draft.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/15, 8:22 PM CT
Erik Bedard got rocked for eight runs (six earned) on seven hits over four innings of work against the Giants on Saturday. He did have five strikeouts but three of his hits allowed went for home runs, and the team must be concerned as he allowed four runs in his previous outing on March 10.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/10, 8:04 PM CT
Erik Bedard allowed four runs on Monday as he saw his spring ERA increase to 8.00 with his new ballclub. "Compared with other [Spring Trainings], I would say I'm pretty close to the same. If I do bad the rest of the spring, it would be different," said Bedard on a report on MLB.com. Bedard is still in line to start for the Mariners on opening day, and barring a collapse, he figures to be one of the top-20 SP this season and one that possesses top-10 talent if he can put it all together.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/5, 9:16 PM CT
Erik Bedard completed three innings of efficient pitching for Seattle in a 6-5 win over the Angels in Cactus League action today, according to the Associated Press. Bedard, enjoying his first season with the Mariners after joining the team via trade with the Baltimore Orioles, allowed two hits, one run, and a walk with one strikeout in his first spring training appearance.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 2/29, 8:23 PM CT
Erik Bedard was off in his first start with the Mariners, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks in two innings Friday. The prized trade acquisition will settle down eventually. Be patient.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 2/15, 6:58 PM CT
The details of the Erik Bedard contract with the Mariners, who both avoided a potential salary arbitration hearing, is reported to be a one-year, $7 million dollar package, according to the team's official website. Bedard, who made $3.4 million last season, was seeking $8 million through salary arbitration while the Orioles offered $6 million.

Manager John McLaren didn't take long to think about who his opening day starter will be. McLaren informed new acquisition Erik Bedard Wednesday that he would be getting the ball on March 31 against the Rangers, according to the AP. It had been expected that the lefty would compete with Felix Hernandez for the top spot in Seattle's rotation, but obviously that's not the case.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 2/9, 1:38 PM CT
Mariners GM Bill Bavasi will discuss a contract extension with Erik Bedard's agent, now that Bedard finally joined the M's, according to the Seattle Times. Bedard said he was open to a long-term contract with the Orioles, but they didn't make any good offers. "If they would have put a serious offer, maybe I would have considered it," Bedard said. The Mariners control Bedard's contract for the next two seasons, so there isn't a huge rush to make it happen quickly, but clearly the M's would like to lock him up for the long term.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 2/8, 1:53 PM CT
Erik Bedard is finally Seattle-bound. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the swap between the Orioles and M's has became official. Baltimore will receive outfielder Adam Jones, left-handed reliever George Sherrill and pitching prospects Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kam Mickolio in the deal. Bedard gives the Mariners a pretty nice 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation along with Felix Hernandez.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 2/7, 5:11 PM CT
Erik Bedard reportedly flew to Seattle on Thursday to take a physical that will complete the much anticipated trade between the Orioles and Mariners. Yahoo Sports reported that Bedard had been due to land in Seattle early afternoon to expedite a deal that will swap Bedard for outfielder Adam Jones, reliever George Sherill and a package of prospects. The teams had hoped to announce the trade by Thursday evening but it's likely the official announcement won't come until Friday at the earliest.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 2/6, 4:32 PM CT
Erik Bedard won't even leave his home in Ottawa to take his physical in Seattle until Thursday, so it looks like it will be Friday or later before the long-rumored trade between the Orioles and Mariners is official, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. If you've been under a rock the last few weeks, the Mariners are set to acquire Bedard for center field prospect Adam Jones, pitcher George Sherrill and three minor league pitchers.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 2/6, 8:21 AM CT
Erik Bedard remained at home in Ontario Tuesday night, an indication his trade to Seattle remains a day or two away from completion. The Orioles had Adam Jones and George Sherrill in for physicals Monday and spent part of yesterday reviewing the results. If they are content with what they saw, it is expected they will then ask Bedard to head to Seattle for an exam, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 2/5, 8:16 AM CT
The Baltimore Sun has confirmed that Adam Jones and George Sherrill were in Baltimore Monday for physicals, and the trade that would send them and three prospects to the O's for Erik Bedard could be announced in days. Bedard is expected to be in Seattle this week, perhaps as early as today, to take his physical. The three prospects in the deal are all pitchers: Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kam Mickolio.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 2/4, 4:45 PM CT
Erik Bedard appears to be headed to the Seattle Mariners sometime on late Monday or early Tuesday according to a report in the Baltimore Sun. This report, when combined with the one in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer earlier in the day, seems to make it almost certain that Bedard will be switching teams in a matter of hours.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 1/31, 10:35 AM CT
A last-minute attempt by the Orioles to sign Erik Bedard to a multiyear contract appears to be the only thing standing in the way of a proposed trade that would send the left-hander to the Mariners for as many as five players, including 22-year-old outfielder Adam Jones, according to MLB.com. Sources close to the Orioles said Wednesday that club owner Peter Angelos wants to keep the ace pitcher and called Bedard last Sunday night to discuss a five-year contract. Bedard said he might be interested and would talk to his agent, Mark Pieper.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 1/30, 10:45 AM CT
Trade talks between the Orioles and Mariners involving Erik Bedard are alive, though other teams remain in the mix if the Orioles decide to trade the ace left-hander, according to the Baltimore Sun. "We continue to talk," Orioles' president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said yesterday when asked about the proposed deal that would send Bedard to Seattle for a package that includes center fielder Adam Jones, reliever George Sherrill and pitching prospect Chris Tillman. "We've had some other clubs chime in as well."
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 1/29, 10:50 AM CT
Talks between the Mariners and Orioles about a trade involving Erik Bedard are at a standstill, according to the Baltimore Sun. A source familiar with the negotiations told the paper that a potential deal is being held up on the Orioles' end and unspecified complex issues still need to be resolved for the trade to go through. One of those might be Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail getting the approval of club owner Peter Angelos. A source indicated the Mariners and Orioles have agreed to the general framework of the deal, which would send center field prospect Adam Jones, veteran reliever George Sherrill, 19-year-old pitching prospect Chris Tillman and one or two other prospects from the Mariners to the Orioles for Bedard. This deal could still go down at any minute and would greatly benefit both Bedard's and Jones' fantasy value.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 1/28, 12:42 AM CT
The Orioles are reportedly close to sending Erik Bedard to the Mariners in exchange for a package that is focused around Adam Jones, according to SportsTicker. There are varying reports on exactly how close the deal is, but Jones was apparently pulled from a Venezuelan Winter League playoff game in order to undergo a physical. We should have more details on the deal within the next several hours, but this would finally give the Mariners another top-of-the-rotation starter to pair with Felix Hernandez.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 1/27, 1:21 AM CT
Erik Bedard says he is resigned to being traded this season and is disappointed that the Orioles haven't made a greater effort to sign him to a contract extension, the Baltimore Sun reports. "If they don't want me, [a trade] is the best thing to do," Bedard said in a phone interview with the paper. "Obviously, they don't want to keep me because there are a lot more talks [about] trading me than signing me. What am I supposed to do? I just go with the flow. I'll keep it as it is, and go with it, day by day."
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 1/25, 10:46 AM CT
The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners have not dropped out of the bidding for Erik Bedard. "It's not as tough to go from where we were in 2004 to where we were last year as it's going to be to go from 88 wins to where we want to be," GM Bill Bavasi told reporters at the team's annual spring-training luncheon. And to get there, he said, a No. 1 starter still is key." Any deal would surely include Adam Jones, and the M's would also have to give up two or three other good prospects to land the lefty.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 12/24, 11:04 AM CT
The Reds' acquisition of Edinson Volquez won't preclude them from a deal for Erik Bedard, but they are now less likely to get the left-hander. The Orioles have backed off their demand for Jay Bruceb but still want three top prospects - likely Homer Bailey, Joey Votto and Johnny Cueto - for Bedard, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Reds feel that is too steep a price to pay. They're more likely to pursue a much less highly regarded veteran to compete for a rotation spot.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 12/7, 10:21 AM CT
While the Red Sox are still pursuing a Johan Santana deal, they've also thrown their hat into the Erik Bedard sweepstakes, according to the Baltimore Sun. Bedard won't be eligible to be a free agent until after the 2009 season (Santana will be a free agent after '08), so acquiring him could make a bit more sense. The thought now is that the Red Sox and Yankees are the leaders to acquire Bedard, although it remains to be seen if the Orioles are willing to trade him within the divison.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 12/5, 10:20 AM CT
The Orioles are no closer to trading Erik Bedard now than they were on Monday, according to the Baltimore Sun. "We really are not significantly different than where we were [Monday] at this time," MacPhail said. "Our philosophy is pretty simple. We think we have a pretty good understanding of what is equitable for certain guys, and when we get there, great. Until we get there, we'll stay where we are. It's really a simple equation." If the O's don't wind up trading their ace, it's possible they'll re-visit signing Bedard to an extension this spring.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 12/4, 10:51 AM CT
The Mets are making a play for the Orioles' Erik Bedard. They have reportedly offered Baltimore Carlos Gomez, Aaron Heilman and Philip Humber, which was shot down, according to the Baltimore Sun. The two sides are expected to meet again today. In addition to the Mets, the Mariners and Dodgers have also expressed heavy interest in the lefty.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 11/30, 10:39 AM CT
Contract talks between Erik Bedard and the Orioles stalled on Thursday. "We've had some conversations. We spoke again today, but I'd say that we've cooled in that area," Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail told the Baltimore Sun. "We've gone on to other things. It doesn't mean that [negotiations] can't or won't be started again. It just means that they've cooled for now." It's possible the two parties will still work out a deal, but you have to figure the Orioles will seriously consider trade offers for the lefty during the winter meeting next week.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 11/28, 10:40 AM CT
Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail has been having conversations with Erik Bedard's agent, Mark Pieper, regarding a contract extension, but the two sides have yet to exchange figures, according to the Baltimore Sun. "There have been some conceptual conversations," MacPhail said. The O's would love to sign Bedard long-term, but he may be out of their price range, in which case they'll further pursue dealing the left-hander.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 11/15, 10:46 AM CT
The Orioles spent part of last week's GM meetings listening to offers for Erik Bedard. However, the club's focus has now changed, as president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail is now looking to sign the lefty to a contract extension, according to the Baltimore Sun. The O's haven't completely dismissed the idea of trading their ace; they just want to explore what it would take to sign him long-term before possibly dealing him.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 11/5, 10:12 AM CT
Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail has indicated that he's at least willing to listen to offers regarding Erik Bedard, according to the Baltimore Sun. However, MacPhail also mentioned the team has had preliminary talks about a contract extension. Should Bedard truly be available this offseason, he would be one of the most sought-after commodities this winter.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/9, 5:37 PM CT
The Orioles have thrown in the towel on Erik Bedard's season by placing him on the DL. "The earliest he was going to be able to pitch would've been like the 27th of this month," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said, according to the AP. "It would've been probably a three-inning start at best. And that would've been if everything fell according to plan. He hasn't picked up a ball since the 26th of August." Bedard has been dealing with a strained oblique, and the O's really have no reason to risk damaging it more. He finishes the season 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 221 strikeouts in 182 innings.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/9, 6:34 AM CT
The Orioles are expected to make a decision on Erik Bedard on Sunday. The question is whether to shut him down for the remainder of the season or continue to wait in the hope that his strained oblique will heal this month, according to the Baltimore Sun. It seems likely that he will just be shut down and aim for next season, but we should know for certain by Monday.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 9/6, 8:57 PM CT
A return to action this season is looking unlikely for Erik Bedard, since he has stopped throwing due to his strained right oblique. "I don't know how long it would take for him to start resuming his throwing program and being able to pitch," manager Dave Trembley said, according to he AP. "Obviously, there comes a point in time where common sense has to take over." Expect the Orioles to be cautious with his return, which means realistically, we may not see him take the mound again in 2007.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/4, 10:47 PM CT
Erik Bedard had an MRI Tuesday that confirmed he has a strained right oblique muscle. "He is to continue treatments," manager Dave Trembley said in the AP. "We wanted to rule out anything further by giving the MRI." Bedard's status for the rest of the season will be updated later this week.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/4, 12:57 PM CT
Orioles ace Erik Bedard wants to pitch again this season, but manager Dave Trembley told the Baltimore Sun he’s waiting for the result of tests scheduled for Tuesday before any decision is made. Bedard is battling a strained right oblique. Bedard pitching again this season seems like a long shot, but wait until there is some official word before cutting ties with him completely.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 9/3, 10:46 PM CT
Orioles pitcher Erik Bedard is scheduled to have a strained muscle in right side examined Tuesday by team orthopedist Dr. Andrew Cosgarea. "He's back in Baltimore, and we'll have an update after his appointment," Orioles manager Dave Trembley told the Associated Press before Monday night's game at Tampa Bay. Bedard hasn’t pitched since August 26.

Our View: Bedard, who was a front-runner for the AL CY Young award when he went down, hasn’t been ruled out for the remainder of the season at this point, but that is certainly a possibility if the news in the next couple of days isn’t positive. Stay tuned.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 9/1, 6:40 AM CT

Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 7/7, 10:51 PM CT
Erik Bedard was brilliant in his start at Texas Saturday, throwing a two-hit shutout and striking out 15. Bedard had been complaining of a dead arm in his previous start, but apparently that's no longer an issue. Despite the high strikeout count Saturday, he threw a reasonable 109 pitches.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/5, 11:51 AM CT
Erik Bedard told the Baltimore Sun he is battling a "dead-arm" period and it impacted his last start. He said he had no control over his pitches and his fastball lost some of its velocity. "Normally, when I throw that, it's pretty easy, but the other day it didn't feel the same," Bedard said to the paper. Bedard says he goes through this every season, so fantasy owners need not panic. However, keep a closer eye on him during his first few starts after the break to ensure it doesn’t become a chronic problem.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 6/25, 6:43 AM CT
Erik Bedard felt all right Sunday after tossing a bullpen session the day before. Although he stopped short of saying he would definitely make his next start, things look positive for Bedard, who left his Thursday start due to a strained left hamstring, according to the Baltimore Sun. "It's a day-to-day thing," Bedard said. "I don't really feel it. I think it's only really a game thing." Barring a setback, Bedard should be ready to start on Wednesday.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/24, 6:40 AM CT
Erik Bedard got through a full bullpen session on Saturday. So long as his strained left hamstring feels well today, he should make his scheduled start on Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. He left his last start on Thursday due to the injury, so the bullpen session is a positive sign. You'll want to wait to hear how he responds Sunday before sticking him into weekly lineups Monday, though.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/23, 6:53 AM CT
Erik Bedard is expected to throw a side session today. How his strained left hamstring responds will determine what his next step will be, according to the Baltimore Sun. If all goes well, he'll make his next start. If not, he could be pushed back or even placed on the disabled list.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/21, 10:08 PM CT
Erik Bedard was forced to exit Thursday's game after straining his left hamstring. Interim manager Dave Trembley said he didn't think the injury was serious enough to land the pitcher on the disabled list, according to the AP. Bedard earned his fifth win of the season by allowing only two runs on five hits and no walks over six innings before being felled by the injury. It'll be a couple of days before we can tell if he'll make his next start.

Erik Bedard appeared to abandon his changeup and curveball early in Monday's opener, allowing the Twins to sit on his fastball, the Baltimore Sun reports. Bedard wound up allowing 10 hits and six runs over 4 2/3 innings. "I thought he got into some periods where he was throwing and not pitching," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "He got away from pitching, what he was doing all spring. He'll be fine. He's the least of my concerns." Bedard's next turn comes at the Yankees Sunday.
